5 out of 5 eggsSilicon Lottery!

Pros: * After 3 years ownership this baby is rock stable.
* With my NH-U14S I can easily run it at 4.8Ghz without any voltage tweaks. Temps can touch 70c when gaming but barely. Stress test with Prime95 will make it creep into the 75's but I've yet to see a game that stresses the CPU like Prime95 does. ;)

Cons: * Even with the i7-4790k I can't justify an upgrade since depending on the silicon lottery I might not surpass the performance of my old 2600k.

5 out of 5 eggsThe BEAST !!!

Pros: This is truly a beast! I remember i bought this and never had the need to OC, it just that i had a newegg steal i bought below the not K version. Two years have passed, heavy media production rig i have still no need to OC.

Cons: None, the best.

5 out of 5 eggsHands Down The Best

Pros: -Amazing longevity, still a performer after 3 years of ownership
-Still can max a ton of video cards without being the bottleneck
-No crashing, no driver issues, doesn't run hot

Cons: -Costs a whole lot
-LGA 1155 means upgrading options are simply not there

Other Thoughts: -If you are in the market for a CPU that can be upgraded over time to stay current, then this is not for you. This is a tried and true processor, and as such, upgrading on an old platform will be minimally beneficial. With that being said, if you want stability, performance, and don't plan on riding the "new stuff" wave, then this thing is STILL for you.

5 out of 5 eggsMoney well spent

Pros: Bought this CPU back in 2011. Actually paid less then than it costs now. This chip has been rock solid through alot of hardcore gaming. Handles any new title I throw at it like a champ. I have it overclocked to 4GHz and do not get any temperature problems with air cooling.
Intel's finest chip ever IMHO.

Cons: Its more expensive now that it was then.

5 out of 5 eggs3.5 years and still awesome

Pros: No problems after 3.5 years of ownership. I am not an overclocker, I actually just want stability at the lowest voltage possible. I have under-voltaged this CPU for years without a hitch.

Cons: Someone complained about the built in graphics, but everyone knows that stuff blows. The real con is that after 3.5 years of ownership the price is the same. Demand has been too good.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid...even by today's standards

Pros: Carbon copy of what most people have already said.

Been running this at 4.6ghz for 3+ years now, with an Antec 1200 case and Corsair H80 Cpu cooler. It never complains, never crashes. I am a gamer (Battlefield series), and coupled with my aging EVGA GTX 580 Classified 3GB video card, I think the cpu will remain while the video card gets upgraded sometime in the not-so-near future.

Cons: None that come to mind.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU even after 1.5 years

Pros: This chip has been through it all. No matter what I though at it it powers though it with no problem. Granted this may be an aging processor but it still keeps up with the best of them.

Cons: The only thing that I have had a problem with this cpu is the on-board graphics is garbage when it come to gaming. If you want to do gaming just buy a dedicated card and be done with it. It was not enough to take an egg away though.

Other Thoughts: Even after almost two years of use and abuse from me (use it everyday to play games) I still have the stock cooler on it (this may change soon though with my new mobo i got for it which allows for overclocking) It has had some problems with being a little hot but it want enough to harm the cpu at all

On my new mobo (asus p8 z77-v lk) I was able to get ~4.3ghz off of the stock cooler. If you don't plan to overclock ( which I never needed for what I do) if you want a cpu that will last and have an older motherboard that is lga1155 then this is your best bet hands down.

5 out of 5 eggsHallmark of Intel's greatest achievement

Pros: Greatest Intel overclocking chip, temps are just beautifully low, can get up to 5GHz on this thing without a hiccup, forget about what bin your chip is all you have to worry about is if you're cooler can handle the heat it will be putting out, and chances are any $50-$100 cooler will do that job

Cons: None, none at all. Well except that stock fan, that stock fan is truly horrible for anything past stock clocks and even at stock clocks, it can get very hot when doing serious work, which is what this i7 was meant for.

Other Thoughts: This processor single handedly destroyed AMD for years to come.

It cannibalized sales of Intel's own Extreme processor line by eliminating its whole point of existence with the introduction of K-series processors, it brought great value to dollar-per-performance ratio with the unlocked multiplier allowing over-clockers to set it to any frequency they like eliminating the FSB wall that once only-premium paying Extreme edition owners were able to experience, all at a fraction of the price.

Future generations of Intel Core i processors just brought minimal performance improvements for desktop users and worse overclocking performance and temps. Clock-for-clock IB is 5-10% faster but also overclocks a lot worse, same goes for Haswell which is 10-15% faster at most, plus the cheaper TIM they used makes temps when overclocking a horrid experience if you plan on shooting for frequencies SB was able to achieve. If you have a K series SB, stay with it and don't upgrade like I did :)

5 out of 5 eggsModern

Pros: This is a modern processor which is saying a lot given its age.

Let's see what it still has going for it in 2014:
Fast
4 cores 8 threads
Stable while overclocked
Cool while overclocked
Enthusiast grade

Cons: Power consumption isn't state of the art
No ECC support, therefore not workstation grade.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast and stable.

Cons: No cons that I could find.

Other Thoughts: I do not understand why MS Windows and other well known major programs do not make more use of this chip's multi-threaded capabilities. There is so much wasted capacity begging to be used.
