OCZ Solid 3 SLD3-25SAT3-60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III MLC

Any way you look at it, solid state drives are faster than HDDs, so why not get the most bang-for-your-buck? OCZ Solid 3 SSDs are designed to provide a superior combination of value and performance, implementing the cutting-edge SATA 6Gbps interface to deliver speed that significantly improves your overall computing experience.

  • newegg Engineered for Cost-effective Performance The OCZ Solid 3 SATA III Solid State Drives are designed and built for cost-effective performance. By leveraging the latest SATA 6Gbps interface and the second generation of SandForce SSD controller (SF-2281), the Solid 3 pushes the limits in sequential data transfer rates with up to 500MB/s read plus great 4KB random write performance of 20,000 IOPS, significantly improving your productivity, gaming, multimedia, and overall computing experience. It is backwards compatible with SATA II / 3Gbps, and is also compliant with ATA/ATAPI-8 Standard Native Command Queuing (NCQ). (Max performance achieved using Native SATA 6Gbps chipset. Rated speeds may vary slightly depending on the benchmark used, drivers, windows version, bios version and file size.)
  • newegg A Superior PC Experience In addition to enhanced performance, a Solid 3 upgrade promotes cooler, quieter, and more energy efficient conditions compared to traditional mechanical hard drives. With no moving parts, SSDs provide peace of mind with their superior durability and reliability.
  • newegg TRIM Support The OCZ Solid 3 offers native TRIM support featured in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Designed to maintain the performance of SSD at an optimal level over the lifetime of the drive, TRIM functions by actively deleting invalid data from the SSD’s memory cells to ensure that write operations perform at full speed. Since a memory block must be erased before it can be re-programmed, TRIM improves performance by pro-actively erasing pages containing invalid data, allowing the SSD to write new data without first having to perform a time-consuming erase command.
  • newegg S.M.A.R.T. Technology The OCZ Agility 3 adopts Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) which enables the PC to predict the future failure of hard disk drives. Through the SMART system, hard disk drives incorporate a suite of advanced diagnostics that monitor the internal operations of a drive and provide an early warning for many types of potential problems. When a potential problem is detected, the hard drive can be repaired or replaced before any data is lost or damaged.

1 out of 5 eggsFlaky Drive

Pros: Nice fast SSD with SATA3 support.

Cons: Flakes out and loses sync with the SATA bus. Meaning the drive can no longer be read from or written to. It got progressively worse, stopping working at progressively shorter intervals.

Other Thoughts: This was probably exacerbated by several installs, but the only thing on the drive was the OS and basic updates, all non-core programs were loaded to a different drive as were user directories.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Anonymous,

We are happy to help you with this. If you visit our Support Forum we can provide tools that reset the drive to a like-new condition and update the firmware as well as assist with setup procedures. Please take a moment to contact us and we will gladly assist.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome SSD!

Pros: Easy to install, Worked great with Windows 7 & 8 64Bit, Silent!, Doesn't run hot like other drives do, Its really fast!, What else to say its awesome!

Cons: None what so ever!

Other Thoughts: It is a shame they have discontinued this great little drive! I have owned & used many drives as bar back as to the old 8086, 8088, Tandy, and so on ... Yeah I a little old, but any way this is to date one of my favorite & most liked hard drives. Its silent, you cant even tell its there. Its fast, takes seconds to boot into Windows 7 64bit. It runs cool unlike your topical SATA or IDE drives. Its very small! But then again most SSDs are. I also had no problems installing it into my PC with no need to update or flash my bios to use it as I did with my old SATA's. If your looking for a great Master Boot drive & can find it any where online its well worth it! Now I am just waiting to find a decent priced 400GB+ SSD to use for my games on Steam & I will most likely stick with the OCZ which honestly I was iffy about not ever having used them before but its awesome!

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: Installed this to keep my OS on and it works great. Super fast. Used 500GB HDD as a mountpoint to install all of my non-essential programs on to keep this new SSD as empty as possible. It gets a Windows Experience rating of 7.2 but my mobo only has 3Gbps Sata II connectors, so I can only imagine the speed with 6Gbps connectors.

Cons: 60GB isn't a lot of space to work with but I knew when I ordered it.

Other Thoughts: If you are using this as your primary disk I suggest having some other storage installed in you system. Mine for example has this SSD for OS only, a 500GB HDD mountpoint, a 2TB HDD to keep all of my music, video, pictures, etc., and another 1TB HDD that I use to keep my system backed up.

My future plans are to purchase 1 or 2 more 60GB SSD and create a stripping array. This will increase my storage potential and the speed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: I know quite a bit about computers but have only recently learned and used SSD. This is the first SSD drive I have owned and am very pleased with this purchase. With the new system, the computer boots off of the SSD drive and has a WD VelociRaptor for other programs and data. The computer boots Windows 7 pro before the windows logo even shows. Very Quick!!!

Cons: None as of now.

Other Thoughts: I have heard horor stories of SSD drives going bad with to much writing but I have yet to experience this.

4 out of 5 eggsPut in old netbook, probably faster than cpu

Pros: Worked without firmware updates or anything on Ubuntu 12.04.
Quieter and cooler than the HDD it replaced.
Its still going after few months without issues.

Cons: The computer has problems resuming from sleep sometimes, haven't really looked to see whats causing it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace an HDD that was dropped on a friend's netbook. Bought it for the shock resistance, but haven't dropped it yet to test that out.
Didn't benchmark it for speed or anything, as I don't really care.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget SSD for Boot / Linux

Pros: Look at the price, capacity, and specs. There really isn't much else to say. It's a fantastic value.

Cons: Doesn't come with SATA cable or 3.5" mount. This isn't really a con so long as you're aware of it. SSDs don't put out any heat, so a piece of cardboard and some duct tape makes a more than adequate mount.

Other Thoughts: As the title states, this is a great drive for some uses, not all. Don't try to use it as your only disk (as in a laptop), unless you're a thin client. Otherwise, it's definitely too small. Windows 7 Ultimate would take up a third of this drive before you even install anything.
