The Samsung WriteMaster SH-S203N is a triple-format SATA drive which reads and burns DVD, dual-layer DVD, and CD format media, and features LightScribe technology. Dual-layer DVD's hold up to 8.5 GB of data, and are ideal for users who need to backup or share large amounts of data. LightScribe lets you burn custom artwork directly onto LightScribe disc blanks. The WriteMaster's 20X DVD writer takes only five and a half minutes to write 4.7GB of data to a DVD±R disc.
A Weight Balancing System reduces drive noise; Speed Adjustment technology to match the media; Tilt Actuator Compensation to adjust for deformed writing surfaces; and Double Optimum Power Control, which balances the laser power on the sides of the disc for enhanced writing performance. WriteMaster makes backup and duplication of your vital data quick and economical.

Perfect burner in every way!
- Pros: Burns cleanly, has LightScribe (not Litescribe, not Light-scribe...), SATA interface, no useless audio connectors, jumpers, or 40-pin connectors hogging space, and NO riplock (see below)!
- Cons: Had an issue with LightScribe practically locking up my computer (by hogging the SATA controller) while burning a label, but that seems to be fixed after switching my ICH9 controller to AHCI mode instead of IDE-compatible mode. Now EVERYTHING is faster! Check your BIOS (but put your boot drive on another controller first!)!
- Other Thoughts: This drive is great. It has no Riplock, meaning it can read pressed CDs and DVDs at full speed - perfect for, uh, "backing up" DVDs. Other drives, like LG, need a firmware hack (MediaCodeSpeedEdit - MCSE) to remove the limitation. Not needed here, it doesn't exist! Clean burns, too... I don't care for speed since slower burns are better (and I use 8x Taiyo Yuden media). Get this drive for the win! :)

- Other Thoughts: SAMSUNG HAS DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS FOR THE SAME DRIVE (BEBE, BEBN, BSBN). THE BEBE, IS OEM WITHOUT SOFTWARE, THE BEBN, IS OEM WITH SOFTWARE (SAMSUNG IS NOT WRITTEN ON THE FACEPLATE ON BEBE, AND BEBN). AND BSBN, WHICH COMES IN A RETAIL BOX, BUT ALSO AS AN OEM PACKAGE. THE BSBN, WHETHER PACKAGED AS RETAIL OR OEM COMES WITH SOFTWARE AND HAS SAMSUNG WRITTEN ON THE FACEPLATE.
SINCE NEWEGG SHOWS SOFTWARE, AND THE DRIVE WITHOUT SAMSUNG ON THE FACEPLATE, THEY SHOULD BE SHIPPING THE BEBN. IF YOU RECEIVE A DRIVE THAT HAS SH=S203N/BEBN ON THE LABEL YOU SHOULD GET SOFTWARE WITH IT, BECAUSE NEWEGG DID.

- Cons: requires SATA cable only had 1 when i got it and it was connected to hard drive had to wait like a week to get a cable from new egg and i got this cable works with it =)
