Your drive was dead because Newegg still hasn't changed how they handle, pack, and ship thier OEM drives for years. It's a gamble with OEM HDD's from Newegg and several others. Some dealers pack and protect thier OEM drives far better.
- Other Thoughts: Your drive ! MORE Than Likely ! ..was damaged out of Western Digital's hands. I'd bet my country's future on it.

great drive - horrible packing
- Pros: Great drive, this is my third one and they are fast, quiet and so far SMART is showing error free.
- Cons: None on the drive, NewEggs packing leaves a lot to be desired.
- Other Thoughts: If you need the drive working the day it arrives you might want to consider shopping elsewhere, somewhere that packs the drive securely. It came wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap in a box 3/4s full of peanuts. The other drive in the shipment sustained shipping damage.

Great HDD
- Pros: It's fast, tons of space, and WD drives are very reliable.
I bought 2 of these during summer and put them in Raid-0 setup, very fast, and no problem. Very low noise when not using.
Recently, I bought another one of this drive from Shellshocker, and Newegg improved how they ship OEM drives. The hard drive was in an anti-static bag, wrapped around by some bubble sheet, placed in a small carton box. And then the small carton box was placed in a larger shipping box filled with paper.
- Cons: Not as fast as the 640GB, but all 3 750GB Black drives were cheaper than the 640GB version when I got them. Plus you are getting a lot more space for the few MB/s speed you lose, if you are really looking into speed, get some SSDs :)
- Other Thoughts: Glad to see how Newegg improved how they ship the OEM hard drives.
