The Photosmart C7280 from HP is a comprehensive solution for SOHO users who need to print photos as well as documents. Print, Scan, Fax and Copy, this machine does it all in color and black and white, with or without a PC. And except for getting things started, it can do it without you since it has a 100 sheet paper tray and a 20 sheet 4x6 photo paper tray plus a 50 sheet automatic document feeder for copying or faxing.
Connecting to the printer is easy. In addition to the standard USB 2.0 connection there is both wired and 802.11b/g wireless Ethernet built in for network printing. An optional Bluetooth dongle plugs into the PictBridge connection and lets you wirelessly print from any Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (via dongle) compatible device. Of course you can use the PictBridge port to plug in any compatible camera for printing without a computer. The card slots on the front can handle over multiple types of memory cards for direct printing of photos and the 2.4” LCD screen on the front of the printer can help you choose which you want to print.
This all-in-one is designed to save you on paper and ink costs. A built in duplexer lets you print on both sides of the paper automatically. Individual ink cartridges let you change out only the color that has run out so you aren’t throwing away cyan and magenta ink just because the yellow in the cartridge ran out, as an example.

HP C7280 Review
- Pros: 1. Very Good print and copy quality with reasonable speed
2. Excellent Photo print quality 3. ADF works well, no jams, separates pages well 4. Print/Copy/Fax from the Printer's LCD work very well, with clear, easy-to-navigate menus on the LCD 5. Duplexer 6. wireless setup was easy without issues Reasonably quiet operation 6 separate ink tanks
- Cons: 1. Duplexing only works for PC-printing, not for copies
2. 100 Sheet Paper tray is inadequate if you print very much 3. Software is bloated, buggy and in some areas is not very user-friendly 4. Some features (including Fax) don't appear on SW installed on wirelessly connected PCs 5. the printer is very loud and takes a while to initialize 6. the printer is very loud and takes a while to initialize 7. When printing on both sides of the paper, the printer has to wait to let the ink dry 8. The sound on the printer when faxing is LOUD
- Other Thoughts: the C7280 seems to be a pretty solid printer, and the printer features work pretty well. The copier, fax and scan functions all seems to work as promised, but are pretty basic. The SW is very disappointing. That, combined with the HW shortcomings (e.g. the duplexer) prevent me from giving the C7280 a higher rating. Output quality is definitely a `5', but the software and the hardware misses limit me to a `4' overall. For my purposes, it will do the job, and even with its limitations, it does provide more functionality than the old device it replaces. Time will tell how well it holds up
Amazing!
- Pros: This device is LOADED with features, and I've found almost all of them to be very useful. The print quality is great, and the sheet fed scanning is VERY useful. Being able to plug a flash drive into the scanner and save scans directly to it is also great. Another little known feature, 'webscan,' which lets you scan images through a web interface has also been useful.
- Cons: It's very loud when doing anything (scanning or printing). Also, there is no USB scanner driver for Linux, so I have to either use the webscan or save directly to a flash drive via the USB port on it.
- Other Thoughts: It's expensive, but worth every penny!

Hates paper
- Pros: Great photo quality printing, lots of features, great print quality when it actually accepts paper
- Cons: This thing simply refuses to load paper. It will take in 0 sheets or 5-6 sheets. When it does work, it will print 4-5 sheets just fine then suck up 5-6 sheets out of no where. I'm amazed any corporation would actually release this with their name on it. HP has gotten to big.
- Other Thoughts: I just threw it off my balcony into the parking lot. No kidding. I just totally went Office Space on this thing.
Great Printer
- Pros: Extremely high quality printing
- Photos turn out amazing, as well as the pharmacy machines when you use proper photo paper Six Separate ink wells Easy Wireless setup Easy to navigate LCD Menu Sleek and modern looking Doc Feeder OCR Software to create text-searchable PDFs - Absolutely amazing for storing health records, car maintenance records, etc... stuff i kept the papers for and filed that are no longer taking up space on my floor!!
- Cons: Typical HP bloated Software
--------------------------------------------- I haven't had this issue, but my dad did, guess I'll share since he'll probably won't write a review. When he first started up the printer, it had an issue with the cartridges. Don't remember specifically what the error was, but it was something about the cartridges not being the right ones or something. He called HP, they sent out new ones the next day FOR FREE, and they were fine.
He also has it set to default print on both sides (OS: Vista) and it throws an alert every time he tries to print with a driver issue. It's odd, because it still works just fine. Just seems to be an annoyance.
- Other Thoughts: I haven't done anything too hard-core with this printer, but I've been happy with it so far. Like Suicycoslayer stated, the paper tray is a bit small for people who do a lot of printing. The software will kill your system if you don't uncheck a lot of items. There is a very helpful review on amzon's page that gives tips on what to install and what not to install.
I do love the aesthetics of this printer, it really does look nice. My dad bought the same printer, and actually has it in their living room, instead of hidden away in an upstairs bedroom. My mom is kind of a n00b, and she's able to make copies and scan to the PC with no problems. Very simple system to use.
Perfect Printer
- Pros: I unpacked the printer and followed the quick set-up and the printer was up and running in a matter of minutes. It found my wireless network with no problems. I installed the software on each computer and was done. Great printer.
- Cons: Ink is a little pricey but makes great photos. Everthing is a little bit noisey.
- Other Thoughts: None.
