Securely share high-speed Internet access and files with computers, game consoles or media players from greater distances in your home or office. The D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-825) lets you quickly create a secure wireless network using the latest Draft 802.11n wireless technologies offering greater range and data speeds than the older 802.11b/g standards, (when used with Draft 802.11n-compatible wireless adapters) while still being fully backwards compatible with them—perfect for mixed-mode environments.
The router's MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) technology also makes it a natural choice for multimedia fanatics, minimizing errors and optimizing data speed through the use of multiple antennas for both sending and receiving.
Need to give voice, gaming, or media streaming priority? The DIR-825 has integrated Intelligent QoS (quality of service) technology to do just that. The router analyzes wired and wireless traffic and separates it into multiple data streams. These streams are prioritized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), video and music streaming and online gaming are given priority over Web browsing.

Pros: This is my 3rd dlink router in 6 years. It is by far the biggest advance forward. Specifically * The 5ghz and 2.4 ghz do work simultaneously. Well. * The QOS and WISH features allow me to run 2 media renderers and 2 workstations at the same time. Prior to this router, connecting to the renderers was dicey at times. The renders and the PCs missed or skipped on play back. That's all gone now. This router adds QOS smarts to the LAN and manages local traffic. Wonderful!
I split my traffic between 5ghz and 2.4ghz. Ironically I had to do it backwards, 5ghz for the workstation and 2.4ghz for the older media renderers that only do G. However, it works well.
The internet to desktop performance remains excellent as always. I can measure a slight decrease when all of the QOS and wish features are on (using speedtest.net). This is to be expected, attention is given to the local streaming services. And even then, its ridiculously fast... over 24 megabits
Cons: I 'over expected' on the shareport feature. Technically it does work, however it only allows one client at a time share. So if I have 4 PCs and 1 USB drive attached to the 825, it allows any one of them to "check out" the usb drive. Everyone else is told to wait until the checked out user is done. I thought I was getting a traditional shared drive. That all pc's could access a shared drive simultaneously. The comment "for all to share" is not false, but mislead me. I would suggest specific clarity on dlink's marketing material.
This works technically and may be right for some. Not me.
Other Thoughts: Like one of the other users, I used old school configuration through the router's web interface. I was "migrating" from an existing router, so some of the newer autoconfig tools looked interesting would have taken me, an existing dlink customer, longer.
So I'm not offering comments either way on how the automated setup features work.

Pros: Works great if you don't mind rebooting it every other day.
Cons: Not reliable; poor range; ZERO customer support; broken firmware. D-link has been aware that their last two firmware releases have had some serious issues, yet they won't acknowledge it and will not fix it. Do yourself a favor and read some of the threads in the dlink beta forum - google for it.
Other Thoughts: The last time I purchased a D-link product I swore I'd never buy another. This time I mean it.

Pros: Works great. Not a single hiccup. Highly configurable. Dual Band! Ability to control every level of security and functionality.
Cons: None to speak of.
Other Thoughts: This has been, far and away, the best router I have ever used. This is also the first router I have personally owned, seeing as each previous roommate I lived with had brought their own along. When I finally needed to get myself one, I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews before settling on the DIR-825. Needless to say, I am very, very pleased. I have dealt with the gamut of routers in the past, including a cheap Belkin N router, a buggy Netgear G router, a problematic Linksys combo modem/router, a nice Airport Express station, etc. D-Link has won my enthusiastic support, now.

Pros: Setup was easy. The firmware was already updated. Just followed the steps with no adjustments necessary. Immediately saw a huge performance gain over by previous g router. Paired it with the d-link dual band bridge with push button sync.
Cons: LED lights are somewhat bright.
Other Thoughts: I highly recommend.

Pros: - 4 port 10/100/1000 switch, SWEET! I've owned this model for over 6 months, and I have not yet had the unit drop a single or require a reboot. However, I did perform the firmware upgrade out of the box though. The unit handles xbox Live great... And I have no problems with laptops ever or wifi phones... BUT If your not planning on using the dual band though, don't consider this unit, your wasting $$$
Cons: The router doesn't handle multi-tasking too well... If i'm on Live or streaming its gotta be one or the other... I haven't disabled the QOS/Traffic Shaping yet... perhaps one night this week.
Other Thoughts: I chose this router for its extensive range. The unit doesn't achieve great speeds at far away distance, however my apt has narrow hallways and thick plaster walls, with doors often closed. Perhaps unit would perform better if it were centrally re-located, food for thought. But I am able to get a signal throughout the house while all the doors remain open.
