You get what you pay for
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: unreliable
buffer too small doesn't handle mixed 100mbps gigabit networks well. doesn't handle jumbo frames well.
- Other Thoughts: I was never able to use this switch and jumbo frames on a mixed network with 3 gigabit computers and a 100mbs wireless AP.
The buffer on the unit is too small.
After about 7 months of operation, I started getting download lockups and weird behavior on systems that had a VPN connection or booted over the network (pxeboot/nfs).
I replaced it with a linksys gamer's router and the difference is astounding.
A+ 10/100/1000 Switch!
- Pros: *Great finish
*Unit runs nice and cool *Barely any noise compared to my Linksys 8 port 10/100 switch. *Wired ports on the back are very sturdy and appears to be solid metal allowing for proper secure connections (no loose wires).
- Cons: None! Great Price for a 10/100/1000 Switch!
- Other Thoughts: A+ TrendNET, Really did a good job with this product. Didn't buy the 8 x rj45 version because I didn't need the extra 3 ports for another few bucks.

Dirt Cheap, Great Performance
- Pros: No setup, just plug everything in, speedy, small size, inexpensive. Used it at school with no problems.
- Cons: Lights are opposite of what is specified in the manual, does not effect anything though.
Cheap and Good
- Pros: Functions fast. IE Gigabit speeds. Cheap
- Cons: None
Major Disappointment
- Pros: Auto MDI/MDI-X on all ports, small, keeps cool, inexpensive
- Cons: It doesn't work. Streaming the Super Bowl last night to a Windows Media Center Extender, I got multiple Network Slowdown messages. I swapped this switch out for a 10/100 switch at halftime (missing Springsteen), and all was good for the rest of the game.
- Other Thoughts: I blame you, TRENDnet, for me missing Springsteen! Will be returning the product.

Highlights
 |
Gigabit Network Connectivity The TRENDnet TEG-S5 integrates 1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet technology that provides a tenfold increase over 100M Fast Ethernet and a hundredfold increase over 10M Ethernet, to raise the speed and performance threshold for a converged network.
|
 |
Half/full-duplex Compatible With full-duplex support, the TRENDnet TEG-S5 works at a maximum 2000Mbps on each RJ45 port (doubling the speed of normal half-duplex devices), and is also compatible with half-duplex mode. On top of that, each port supports Auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/ MDI-X, which facilitate installation and troubleshooting respectively.
