4 out of 5 eggsI like it

Pros: Aluminum chassis, feels solid, connectors appear sturdy. 'Lever' style mounts make it easy to add and remove drives.

The big plus, for me, is that both drives are powered from one SATA power connector, which saves cable mess and doesn't require you to try to get two SATA power connectors lined up so close to each other. SATA data ports are separate; but those cables are much easier to deal with

Cons: The "locks" on the drive bays are an unfortunate choice: they are too flimsy to offer anything approaching real security; but just strong enough that you'll probably end up snapping something if you lose the keys and need to open the drive bay without them. If you need real physical security, they are pointless. If you don't, they are just another thing to keep track of. A keyless latching mechanism would have been much more suitable.

Other Thoughts: I have no real complaints, this is a convenient, neat, and solid way to get 2.5in HDDs and SDDs into 3.5in slots. consolidating the power cables makes it nicer than mechanical-only adapters.

Do Not, however, buy it expecting some kind of RAID function. It doesn't do that, just passes each drive through to an SATA data connector. It doesn't claim to do anything else, so it is fine that it doesn't; but just don't expect it to.

4 out of 5 eggssolid costruction but!

Pros: nice aluminum construction well built , fits well with aluminum cases, and one power plug which is a plus , some hot swaps have 2 power plugs which makes for a wiring nightmare when using 2 or more hot swaps. this only uses one sata power plug

Cons: I don't like having a non latching door. I think it should latch, it just closes so if you pick up your case it might open and cause some kind of problem, like bending the door.

Other Thoughts: I know it has a key but so people use them at home and not worried about stealing from themselves so they leave it unlocked. if it had a latch it would be a awesome product.

4 out of 5 eggssomething wierd

Pros: Doors and hinges on this usit are metal. The unit is aluminum, has a solid feel. Everything works fine and dandy with Samsung SATA3 SSDs.

Cons: I use a Samsung SSD 850 installed for the OS. With another SSD, INTEL 520 data drive (Sata3), in the other slot, it would not read the Intel SSD for some reason. At the same time the LED light viewed weak. The exact same data on a Samsung 840 SSD read perfectly in the same slot. LEDs were normal. Why would a Samsung work and not an Intel SSD.? I tried several INTEL SSDs, they wouldn't work.

Other Thoughts: I changed cables thinking maybe it was my cables, to correct the problem. It didn't work. Somebody needs to check the pin-outs and SSD details to find out the difference. Maybe the vendor can explain. My assumption is that it may have something to do with current draw.? Not sure.
Since my system works fine with Samsung SSDs in the iStar dock is ok for my use, so I took off only one star. People with only Intel SSDs may give it one star or return the unit as defective.!

5 out of 5 eggsStill good after a year

Pros: Easy to install, locking, great fit and finish. I bought mine about this time last year for my HTPC. One slot is for the boot drive and the other for media storage. After hundreds of openings and closings it still works like new. Building another box and I'm going to buy a 2nd one.

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: In a perfect world I'd like more metal and less plastic but for the price I can't complain.

It is a pass through device so there is no way it should cause any difference in read or write.

1 out of 5 eggsLED light hard acess not working

Pros: Very easy to install.

Cons: LED light hard drive access not blinking. The switch does not work. The LED green light is always on and the orange light does not blink at all. Call Tech support and they blame the SSD manufacture that cusses the LED light not to blink the orange. I tried it on my friends machine same make and model of the SSD and it works and blinks on my friends machine. Tried 2 SSD and different manufacture and orange light blinks. They switch the SSD cage and still the same thing happened.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this CHEAP stuff. I want my money back.

5 out of 5 eggsIgnore the naysayers!

Pros: Solid construction, smooth action, works great. Have four of these running RAID 0 and RAID 1

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: I can't believe these folks that claim to be tech pros, and fault these enclosures for silly things. The one that really got me was the nimrod complaining about the 7mm drive not fitting, and breaking his drive! I've used 7mm drives in two of these without issue. If it doesn't line up first time, reinsert - gently - and they always go right in. Some folks just shouldn't work with their hands...no common sense. If you have to force something, you are doing it wrong.

2 out of 5 eggsNot really as dual as you think

Pros: Solid metal build, accepts 2 drives as advertised

Cons: Main con: you can't copy from one SSD to the other in this thing. Sure, it uses 2 separate SATA cables to attach to the motherboard, and only one SATA power cable. Copy speeds run typical SATA speeds, under 280 mB/s (yes, am using SATA III system and good cables). However, if you want to copy large folders from one SSD to another within this thing, it does a few files and then locks. I've tried switching cables to different ports, but it doesn't matter. I have to physically remove one SSD from this and put it into another bay to get them to copy to each other. Very disappointing.

Other Thoughts: Will try to contact company. Gave it 2 stars rather than 1 because of solid build and with rebate was sub- $10

1 out of 5 eggsDon't do it...

Pros: none I can see.

Cons: Gone through 3 of these so far, none work.
Broke the handle off the previous model, bought this one thinking it was better.. Not !
Installed my pre-existing SSD RAID 0 into this this thing and messed it up, would not boot no matter what.
Removed the drives from the "enclosure" and Finally got them working again. NFG.

2 out of 5 eggsspeed compromised

Pros: hot-swap

Cons: Seq speed is compromised, especially read. Tested with As ssd benchmart on Win 7 64 bit. Without the cage, read speed is over 490 MB/s and overall score is over 900, with thr cage, 240 MB/s, overall score around 600. Write sped is afected as well. Tested on 2 ssds, one pny optimo 240 gb, the other Samsung evo 240 gb, similar result.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: I have purchased four over the past year, or so, and I love these units! Nice, compact install for two SSDs, using a single power connector. I hate waiting, so use these to install two SSDs in RAID 0 or 1, depending on situation. I've had no problems using them with Corsair, Toshiba, Samsung 840 and 850 series drives. The levers eject the drives smoothly and easily, if a change is required. The action is firm, and without slop. Solid construction.

Cons: The only option I'd like to see is elimination of the keys. A simple tiny lever to secure the latch would be bonaroo, but not really necessary. Closing the lever is sufficient, without using the key lock...just a personal quirk about leaving things less secure (from inadvertent actions, not thievery) than it could be.

Other Thoughts: I find some of the complaints astonishing. I would hate to be a manufacturer of computer components, as no matter how simple and well engineered a product is, there are a passel of simpletons styling themselves Einsteins, that exhibit an extraordinary ability to screw up what most deem unscrewuppable!
