Comments: I added the 8n1 CRD RDR AEROCOOL COOL-PANEL to my unit. I already had a front panel card reader/usb/firewire that came with my chaintech mobo. But it wouldn't read the larger SD memory cards. Anyway I got the new reader with the front usb's etc, so I got this card to add some more USB's and firewire siport. Everything worked great except the internal USB jack. The 2 headers internal on the card worked fine, but not the internal plug. In fact it locked every usb port up if I plugged anything into it. I'm just not using that port.

Comments: This USB2/FireWire card is recognized by the BIOS right away. Under Windows XP SP2, no driver installation is needed. And the transfer rates are very close to theoretical maximal rates.

Rating + 2 Two Problems

Comments: I bought this card a few weeks ago. I have two major problems with it.
1. Under WinXP Pro, the card does not recognize my Sandisk Cruzer mimi 512 USB2.0 Flash Drive. The same flash drive works well with other computers.
2. The 1394 port is unable to export DV video file back to my Sony PC100 camcorder. It has no problem capturing video from PC100 to my PC, though.

Other than the above two issues, the card is behaving normal. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with this card?

Rating + 5 Works in Macs

Comments: I was looking for a combo card to add some USB 2.0 ports to my PowerMac G4 Gigabit Ethernet and this did the trick. Because of the internal USB port I was able to add bluetooth inside the Mac and save the external USB ports for other stuff.

Comments: Very good value although the card I got had 2 external USB and 2 external 1394 ports along with 2 internal USB headers as well as 1 internal USB port and 1 internal 1394 port for a total of 5xUSB and 3x1394 connections. I would have preferred an internal 1394 header as well but the cards installed easily and XP recognized these cards with no problems on two different computers.

As an aside, I had to reinstall XP recently when my HD failed. The drivers for my DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D apparently include USB2 drivers for older versions ow Windows that I accidentally installed. These drivers disable the USB2 feature of this motherboard and the only way around it according the the DFI help site is the reinstall XP again. I didn't want to bother with reinstalling the OS and all my programs again and although I didn't expect USB2 to be enabled with this add-on card it seems to be working.

Comments: One of the better combo cards. Well thought out and implemented. Only two minor faults: 1) not many boards have headers for firewire so an otion to plug it into a port would be nice, and 2) the sound wiring could use a bit more shielding. If placed too close to the CPU fan it picks up noise. Other than these, this board is simple to install and works as advertized.

Rating + 5 Great Buy

Comments: I was skeptical about purchasing this card because of the complaints about improper fit and motherboard issues. Card was a good fit, XP recognized and installed easily, and I am using all ports but the external 1394a. No other card offers so much and for such a great price.

Comments: The Manufacture should of had a power hookup from the power supply for this card. If you use all of the hook ups that not a sufficient amount of power for the firewire hookups...

Comments: I'm a novice and didn't have any issues installing the card in a 4 year old Dell Dimension. The plate fit, Win ME picked up the drivers from the disk and the USB 2.0 ports work like a charm.

Rating + 2 A Little Worried

Comments: I purchased several of these cards from Newegg.com. Each has been returned to me in the last month, each with driver and connectivity issues. Turns out that the cards aren't mounting in the PCI slots/cases properly. I have also tried this card under other retail packages with same result. Newegg replaced quickly and I hope for better luck with the warrantied cards.

Comments: Probably the best on the market. Installs easily and quickly and has two headers for USB on the card plus one internal USB port and one internal Firewire port (not a header). Perfect for upgrading motherboards that don't have enough headers. Very fast and highly recommended.

Rating + 4 Not so easy...

Comments: The card did not work immediately once installed. The XP drivers caused numerous system resource and device conflicts with the USB serial bus controllers, the IEEE 1394 bus host controllers, and both the primary and seconday IDE channels. I used the drivers off of the included cdrom and it took care of the system resource problems and device conflicts, but there was still another problem. Both the USB and Firewire bus controllers showed a "device cannot start" error message. I unplugged and then reinserted the card as instructed by the windows troubleshooter. Everything worked after that. I also noticed that the mounting bracket does not fit correctly as other newegg readers/buyers have mentioned. There is a gap between the metal plate and the case. I guess I am giving it a 4 out of 5 because once it's running it works great. Blame it on the install issues and design of the mounting plate.

Comments: If you are looking for a card that's easy to setup and install and one that won't set you back a pretty penny - this is it!

Pros:
Super inexpensive
Great performance
Two optional USB headers
Internal USB plugs for add-on modules that are appearing and becoming popular (card readers, etc)

Cons:
No internal firewire header.

Works great - can't believe this kind of card would set you back 80 at a local retailer.

THANKS NEWEGG... fast shipping always rocks!

Comments: This is a very nice card, easy installation, just plug and play. I had old USB 1.1 and needed Hi-Speed USB 2.0, and this did the job. Had to move it down to the last PCI after I installed my new graphics card to give it more breathing room, still works. Once again, very impressed with Newegg prices and quick shipping, received in only a few days.

Comments: Easy to install. Easy to setup. My only gripe is the metal exterior plate doesn't sit down completely (against the case) when placed in the PCI slot. No matter because it won't move. Great product!!!

Comments: PCI to USB/Firewire
PCI USB 2.0 & 1394a combo card (NEC + ALi)
ali chip is clearly labeled ALI5271 but do not see any NEC chip on my unit
there are 2 motherboard type USB 2.0 pin headers with pin 9 blanked out (as is commonly seen on mobo headers) pin 1 (VCC or +voltage) for connection is in same row as the blank
there are no supplemental power connectors on the card
both headers on the card are usb
there are NO 1394 headers, although there is an internal 1394 connector, for which one would need to buy or make connector by (bravely) cutting firewire cord, separating out internal colored wires, and using wire nuts or soldering for connection to card

Comments: Haven't tried the firewire ports since I don't have any firewire devices, but it was in preparation for the future. However, I did try out the USB 2.0 ports with my mp3 player, and transfers were instant! I didn't even have to install the drivers, I popped it in and it was detected, and up and running instantly. No problems at all.

Newegg had it here in 2 business days! Ordered it on Sunday, processed instantly, was packaged and shipped on Monday, and was here Wednesday at 10:30am. That's from California to Wisconsin!

Comments: This card worked perfectly in my computer. I bought it to get firewire for my camcorder as well as get up to USB2.0 for all of that stuff. This board has pin headers so you can connect the USB ports from the case to this board and you'll get USB2.0. Overall a great deal.

Comments: I used this card to hook up my Antec Aria's front USB port and flash card reader to an older socket 370 mainboard with no USB pin headers. It works well.

The PCI bracket leaves a 1/8" gap between the case and the bracket where the mounting screw attaches: poor alignment in the SYBA card. It would be a bad idea to tighten this all the way down, so I'll enlarge the small holes in the PCB where it afixes to the metal PCI bracket. I've done this before with other cards. It's a hassle correcting something basic the card maker should have taken care of.

For the price this is a good card, and I've had no issues otherwise. Windows 2000 recognized it and loaded drivers without using the included CD. Have not messed with the firewire port or Ulead software. I cannot hook up the 1394 port on my case because there are no pin headers for that interface, just an internal socket connector.

Note: this makes me want to upgrade from W2K to XP. XP does a better job handling removable media such as pen drives and flash cards.
