Quick and cool
Pros: Quick data transfer, good stats.
What do you expect? It's a high quality Seagate product. Even with a case with some admittedly bad airflow it stays under 25c while performing some heavy duty work.
Cons: It won't respond to my advances.

Good Fast Drive
Pros: Benchmarks show this to be the fastest drive i have right now. It is quiet, and cool. Coolest drive too by 10F compared to the others inside. Everyone is going to have a nightmare story about one drive brand or another but I have had good success with Seagate. No matter the MFG, back up your stuff on a regular basis, it is not if a HD is going to go down, but when.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Mine came double boxed with bubble wrap around the drive. Good job but even if it hadn't, HDs can withstand some extremely high G's. Almost unbelievable G's. Quote:The most difficult shock a drive can withstand reliably lasts about 2 milliseconds in duration. This is why the industry standard nonoperating shock specification is set at 2 milliseconds. Seagate has the highest desktop disc nonoperating shock specification in the industry—350 Gs at 2 milliseconds for U8 drives and 300 Gs for 7,200-RPM Barracudaâ ATA drives.

Simply the best
Pros: It's between this and the f3's. 2x Raid 0 on ICH10 R yields 224 writes and 246 reads. For sequential that's rivaling 300 dollar SSD's with 10x the capacity.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: WD needs to move off their 320gb platters. The 1tb black is pathetic in comparison to the 7200.12 and F3.

Check Firmware
Pros: I have had overall as good or better reliability with Seagate drives as anything else. The Seagate website has all the tools available for download that would come with a retail packaging of this drive.
Cons: The fun part....Some motherboards and or operating systems don't like some versions of the Seagate firmware. Updating is easy enough as long as you have access to another computer, or HDD. When in doubt check both websites to see if they will work together, if you need to update, or just plug in the hard drive as a secondary and let the online utility do the work for you.
Other Thoughts: The #1 rule with hard drives is keep them cool. That goes for everything in a computer, but data is the hardest to replace.

Unreliable
Pros: Free shipping is the best I can say.
Cons: Installed this drive in Dec, '09 and loaded Windows 7. The drive failed completely with no warning, leaving me in a lurch. Don't trust this drive for reliability!
Other Thoughts: Stick with Western Digital drives. I've used over 20 of them in the past 10 years and never a problem. Made in China if that is a reflection of quality. Don't risk the frustation of have to reconstuct your operating system and data.

After less than 1 year 1 of 2 failed
Pros: Quick, easy install, good price.
Cons: After less than 1 year 1 of 2 failed. In addition advertised as 418AS, turns out it's a 410AS sold as a 418AS but apparently thats not unusual.
Other Thoughts: We will see how the RMA through Seagate goes.
Still think newegg rocks.

It's clear 7200.12 series is best HDD
Pros: It's not only fast but also quite cheap and cool whatelse you wanna have? ah~ it's thin too from my HD tune result read score is average 110MB/s whci is better than every produt from WD samsung Hitach in 7200rpm category and it's the cheapest. not to mention most possible combo with discount it's cool under 32oC I cant here any noisy
I have blue and black WD HDD in ma hand they were doing ok especially black one but it's gone and pretty noisy from my perspective
now I am using this with my OCZ vertex which is perfect combination because vertex 0.1ms acess time cover this acess time which is only cons I can have
Cons: Acess time it's best HDD itself though but if you have more budget to buy then go for SSD like OCZ or Intel it's just perfect combination for the money OCZ vertex is similar performed to Intel and cheaper but Intel is always a little bit better than OCZ but like 5%
Other Thoughts: I dont know why read and write and burst rate are best but the acess time if seagate could handle this then it could be the best of best and 10egg rating

Thin, easy to mount, flawless
Pros: I've owned seagates since 1999, and ironically enough that 11 year old HDD back in my HP still works to this day, that's true dependability.
Cons: The HDD is a tad bit smaller than I would like, which made mounting it feel a little weird, I'm used to the 3.5" thick form factors I guess.
Other Thoughts: Seagate, Western Digital, Seagate, Western Digital, it's basically a win win situation unless your the guy that goes with like, a e machines and gets the HDD that's been dropped and stepped on.

Awesome Drive
Pros: Great Drive! Relativity inexpensive, fast @ 7200 RPM's lots of storage space, easy to install.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: As everyone else has said this drive is slightly smaller then most other drives. This may be a pro or con depending on your machine. On my computer it worked out for the better, it fit better in the drive slot.

Good bang for the buck
Pros: It has great performance per $ spent and it's quiet. The drives are made for desktop RAID arrays in mind, see seagate page for more details.
Cons: None, we use these at work, all of them have survived.
Other Thoughts: I rate it 5 eggs, because the only faster drives cost 2-4 times the price.

Pros: i've bought 5 of these 2 in my system for RAID 0 first order 1 was DOA but not a problem your bound to get them some times Newegg helped me out and got me a new one! and the 3 others in client builds work great!! RAID 0 Gives me an average of 230mbps Read! very Slim design and not loud
Cons: the 1 DOA but other than that no problems!

Nervous, but worked out!
Pros: - Price is right - Works like a hard drive should - 3 months of storage goodness
Cons: - Nadda
Other Thoughts: - A little nervous picking this one up what with the reviews and all, but it seems low ratings for any hard drive is par for the course. - The 7200.12 iteration was supposed to correct a lot of the problems the 7200.11 batch had... works just fine for me at least!

Nice drive
Pros: Great drive reasonably priced, easy to install. First time builder, and no issues with it so far. Cables came with my motherboard for that guy that complain no cables, and its written bare drive on title. I never had any experience in purchasing hard drive and chose seagate due to friends' recommendation, so I can't really compare it to other brands.
Cons: Nothing yet, but its just been a month.
Other Thoughts: My build: Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower ASUS P7P55D LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA PNY GeForce 9800 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2

terrible
Pros: The drive worked great for less than a year.
Cons: Out of nowhere my HDD made terrible noises, cut off, now the PC cannot even boot with that drive plugged in. Its safe to say its damaged. I checked the warranty and it was still good. I have only installed and removed this drive once since it had been installed. There was a hairline scratch on the black paint on the steel casing that rubs against the case. Seagate sent it back!
Other Thoughts: Ill never use seagate again. They have terrible return policies. WD has less failures than most. Ill be switching.

It works!
Pros: Silent. Does what the description says.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Worried that it might die on me sometime soon, because of all the reviews iv seen,, Hopefully not,, I just think all the people that died with in a few months or DOAs got a bad batch.. Planning to shell out 90 bucks for a WD 1tb as a back up incase!

great drive, highly recommended
Pros: * great transfer rates (see detail in 'other thoughts') * good price/performance and price/capacity ratios * would quickly and unequivocally recommend to a friend or install in a client system
Cons: *nada, nil, zippo
Other Thoughts: i was a bit hesitant to buy my first-ever seagate, after seeing some friends' seagates give the click of death. however, this one seems to be a clear winner. to wit:
HD Tach v3.0.4.0 (small block test):
peak sequential read: 139 MB/sec (outermost tracks) slowest sequential read: 71 MB/sec (innermost tracks) burst speed: 220.9 MB/sec random access: 14.1ms cpu utilization: 0% average read: 112.4 MB/sec

Expected a bit more from Seagate.
Pros: I have purchased many Seagate drives in the past and have always had good luck with them till now. My one working drive, out of the two that I purchased is functioning well, the other was DOA.
Cons: Received a power fault error from my MB with the faulty drive connected, system would POST but drive was not detected in CMOS. Purchased another drive locally so that I could get the RAID setup completed. Local computer store no longer stocks 500GB Seagates due to a 40% failure rate. He said the most common failure is a power fault; sounds like I am the most recent victim! How could these drive make it out of the factory? Sounds like poor quality control to me. Will purchase Western Digital drives for my future builds.
Other Thoughts: Steer clear, these drives have know quality issues that I did not find out about until after the fact.

Solid Drive, No Issues
Pros: Speed (boot-up time, indexing, etc.) seem great. I/O is considerably better than the 4 year old ATA 2-1/2 inch drive in my old laptop. Virus scan, music, word documents, e-mail, photoshop, all running at once, with no visible slowdown. Great drive for the money. Size v price was the sweet spot for my build.
Cons: Not an SSD? Not free?
Other Thoughts: Great drive, highly recommended. As it says, this was a very bare drive, no cables included. My mobo came with extra SATA cables though, so I was lucky.

Works with SATA I
Pros: Large capacity Can jumper to use with SATA I Easy install and format Seagate Disc Wizard is a breeze to use
Cons: May fail, but i backup
Other Thoughts: I partitioned this using a USB enclosure to make backups of other hard drives that are working well. So far so good. Some other brands won't work in a SATA I rig.

Size Review
Pros: Size/Price Cache Size
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Let us review a little math, shall we? How many Bytes in a KB? 1024 (NOT 1000!) How many KB in a MB? 1024 (Not 1000!) How many MB in a GB? 1024 (Not 1000!) How many Bytes does this drive have? 500,000,000,000 How many GB does this drive have? 500,000,000,000/1024/1024/1024=465GB! Don't dis this drive or any other for how space is calculated. Also don't say your tech level is high, and then not know how to calculate disk space!

Junk Drive
Pros: Good price to drive size ratio. Reasonably fast and quiet.
Cons: Died after 1 month. started making noises, i could actually hear it spin up when accessing the drive. Finally went kaput and I lost 450GB worth of files. Nice!
Other Thoughts: Seagate has really let me down here. 1 month for a hard drive? I've never had any hard drive fail on me ever. I have a 4 year old 400GB in my HTPC that's still going. The seagate was used only for housing music etc. It also had ample cooling (always around 30C). What a bad experience. Back to WD for me.

thumbs up
Pros: -pretty fast read and write speeds -reliable so far -single platter drive -good price
Cons: My only complaint is that newegg could package these things better. I didn't run into any problems, but I could see how a few people end up with damaged drives with the way UPS throws around packages.
Other Thoughts: Usually people come here and complain only when they get a bad drive, so I thought I would add my positive experience to even things out.
I have two of these running RAID 0 and I haven't run into any problems. I've had them about a month, so I'll have to see if there are any long term problems;but so far,so good. I've run several benchmarks and these drives come out fine, and real world usage is also good. The single platter makes these drives pretty speedy.
Seagate definitely had problems with the 7200.11 series, but I think the 7200.12 series are fine. I think most people here writing negative reviews just got a bad drive or it got damaged in the mail, which happens with any manufacturer. In my experience, one company will put out a bad model once every few years, but all of the major manufacturers (Seagate,Western Digital,Samsung, etc.) are all pretty reliable.

Just what I needed
Pros: Right out of the box, plugged it in and away I went. Drive has been performing flawlessly so far. have had another one of these drives that i bought at walmart about ~8 months ago and it has worked without a hitch also. will post another review in a couple months.
Cons: Came wrapped in bubble-wrap, not in its own box. doesn't do the dishes for me.....
Other Thoughts: bought this to replace 2 slow aging 80GB drives. went from hd score 5.3 to 5.9 in windows 7

Other Thoughts: Failed format twice in XP at 99%, but worked flawlessly in Vista (although vista formats take forever), and after format works flawlessly

Quiet, Quick, Reliable Drive
Pros: This drive is quiet, it works well in my Rosewill External Enclosure, since it's external I can't comment that much on speed, but it's probably not the best as the root drive but terrific for storage and raid. It's also reasonably quiet.
Cons: The start up sounds are little harsh, but the drive works great.
Other Thoughts: I don't think you are any more likely to get a bad drive Western Digital or Seagate. They are pretty evenly matched. It comes down to personal preference, but I seem to be giving the edge to Seagate recently. Just look for deals and do you're homework, but this here is a good drive. Seagates seem to be quieter and they have the perpendicular recording technology.

DOA
Pros: Was part of bundle so was cheap
Cons: Doesn't work!
Other Thoughts: Drive makes a high pitched buzzing noise and isn't recognized by the computer. Now I have to RMA and pay return shipping.

Fantastic HDD.
Pros: Worked right out of the box.
Cons: Another questionably packaged item I received. Arrived with several other items and it was the only one to come in an unmarked shoebox. I was relieved to see it was still in the static bag, I'm wondering if this questionable shipping method is what's DOA'n soo many HDD's that I've heard about.
Other Thoughts: Being a "brand new" drive from Seagate, you would think it comes in some sort of Seagate packaging? IDK for sure because I've only ordered one HDD from NewEgg. But if it did, it's another "Open Box" that I should get a discount for...

Great Buy
Pros: This hard drive is a great improvement over my old 160gb seagate 7200.10. Reading is noticeably faster and the computer seems to respond faster, especially while copying to or from the drive while doing something else. It just seems more light weight.
Cons: In my research I found there are numerous other drives that write faster but the 7200.12s sit at the top on read speeds which I decided was more important to me. What do I care about write speeds once my OS and games are installed, right? I guess if you want a scratch drive maybe this isn't for you.
Other Thoughts: I was a little worried about all the DOA complains I saw on here but I figured EVERYBODY who has a DOA writes a bad review while people who have a good drive write a review with much less consistency. Besides that, I've got three other seagate drives in my computer; the oldest is an IDE drive from 2004 and I've got two 7200.10s from 2006 not to mention the 7200.10 I'm retiring only because its too small. I think seagate has earned my trust.

Back-Up Drive
Pros: Fast and simple to operate. Runs well and my son appreciated the Christmas gift. He can now back-up all his college documents.
Cons: Slightly higher priced than other internal drives of this size.

What a waste of money
Pros: It was shipped in time.
Cons: Dead on arrival. Nothing could recognize it and i couldnt install a os. I even used the hdd dock and that didn't work.
Other Thoughts: Do not risk buying this piece of junk. I had a seagate that laste 5 years so i thought they were good still. DOWN HILL.

Fast when they work
Pros: -Fast -Cheap
Cons: -Slow death
Other Thoughts: I have two of these drives running striped and the speed is amazing; however, today one drive started failing. Luckily i was able to backup everything i needed. I have had the drives for about 6 months. Hopefully my replacement doesn't have the same defect.

Pros: Fast, cheap and a 3 year Manufacturer warranty
Cons: Gives an intermittent fails on bootup that's getting progressively worse. Disk read error on boot. Have to keep rebooting until it reads.
Other Thoughts: I just hope that when I get a replacement I don't have problems with it also. It's electronics and bound to have problems from time to time. Just sucks when its you.

Fast
Pros: I purchased 2 of these to run in Raid 0. They work really well and are fast. The drives are quiet and have a smaller profile then other 3.5" drives.
Cons: Of the 2 I ordered, 1 had to be RMAed. It was full of bad sectors but newegg was very good about getting it replaced. Both of the drives work great now.
Other Thoughts: I purchased 2 of these, one was from China and one came from Taiwan. The one from Taiwan had the bad sectors and it was replaced with another one from China which is working great.

Excellent
Pros: Very fast drive to just having a single platter, actually one of the fastest on the market. The Western digitial velociraptor scores 765 on passmark benchmark. this scores 773 and its much quieter and a fourth the cost. I get sustained writes at about 120 mb/sec compared to my old hitachis at about 75
Cons: some reviewers complain about reliability... haven't had any problems with this drive but its still pretty new, or any other seagate drive. Its audible at times, compared to my old whisper quiet hitachis.
Other Thoughts: Its a great, fast, hopefully reliable drive.

Very Dissapointed
Pros: Price of the Drive. I know that drives are really cheap right now with the newer solid state drives becoming available. It will be some time before these drives (solid state) are more reasonably priced. But this in no way excuses the cons of this product.
Cons: Seagate has had some issues with production of these drives. One would think that since this is a product family that has been strengthened and refined over 12 generations they could get it right. The earlier drives had a much better MTBF then these. It was this reputation that lead me to the selection of this line. Now I'm not so sure. Several of my Seagate drives have died (just outside of warranty) and forced me to look for a more reliable drive dispite cost.

3rd Tims a Charm?
Pros: decent price
Cons: 1st one I received died in 3 months. RMA'd back to Seagate. Replacement drive I received SMART errors after 2 months. 3rd one is in the mail on its way, hopefully 3rd times a charm.
Other Thoughts: I can't stand Seagates packaging requirements!!!

dissappointed
Pros: NONE
Cons: The other Seagate hard drive broke and I sent it to be replaced. When it came it back to me, it just worked for one day, so I bought a new one. This drive right now broke after 2 months and the Seagate support did not return an email for RMA. We lost photos, videos, documents, and games records etc...so who is goin to pay for all of these?
Other Thoughts: 3 Seagate hard drives all broken in the one year.

Cons: First one arrived DOA.

Slimline
Pros: Works great does what it should. I was surprised at how thin this thing is compared to my other drives. How do they fit all that capacity in this thing? I have a 500gb 7200.11 and this thing is almost half as thick.
Cons: none

Pros: worked great for 3months as a stand alone drive.
Cons: After 3 months of using it I reformatted it & paired it up in Raid 0 with another one I had and it died 3months in. Basically after I finished dumping all my files onto it. Very Disappointed. Drive was in my possession for 6 months.
Other Thoughts: Trying to revive the other drive to salvage my files.

Should have listened to the other reviewers - Junk
Pros: Low cost drive
Cons: Product line has a very high failure rate
Other Thoughts: I wish I would have listened to the reviews of this product. My drive failed after 6 months of use. The PC that the drive was in was only used to browse the internet and check email. The drive had less than 100 hours of use on it and the PC was always shut down properly.
I should have spent the extra money and purchased a more reliable drive. I cannot access anything on the drive. I believe the data is intact but the controller card stopped working (I/O errors 95% of the time). Sometimes the drive will spin up in an external tray and you can see the intact file system. 95% of the time it wont show up at all. Seagate wants $1600.00 to swap the platters to another drive... NO THANKS!!!

Seagate 7200.12 500GB
Pros: Fast & Affordable
Cons: Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium will not install on this drive. I'm currently using my laptop HDD and says everything is functioning properly with the Seagate drive.
I checked the BIOS and it reads the Seagate drive. While in Windows 7 under My Computer the Seagate drive is recognized and formated NTFS.
Ran HD Tune and Seatools and everything checks out properly. The drive will just not get recognized for OS installation.
Other Thoughts: I'm stumped. Not sure what is wrong with this HDD. I've ran this by plenty of forums with no solutions.
I would love to use this drive as it runs HD Tune with really nice speeds but it just won't install the OS.

Absolutely Wonderful Drive!!!
Pros: I am thrilled with the Seagate perpendicular technology of these drives. It allows me to install them in whatever niche I can find. Absolutely wonderful!!! This is the 2nd of 2-500GB Seagate harddrives. I prefer not to use anything else!!! Just plug it in and watch it go. Takes longer to reload the operating system than it does to install this wonderful little drive. Love the small size. Doesn't take up much room at all!!!! Small on the outside, but big on the inside!!!
Cons: NONE!!!! Already have another one of these ordered!!!
Other Thoughts: Doesn't some with an attachable expansion bay, but then what drive does. Maybe that's an idea for the future!!! Just have to make due when you use old cases.
Wish it came with a 16 gig USB drive for $5.00 extra, but then we can all dream, can't we!!!

Savio's Review
Pros: 500GB, 7200rpm, good price, good warranty, Seagate name.
Cons: Wouldn't format 100%; bad sectors after 80%. Spinrite was running for 48 hours on it. Since it was recently purchased just did a RMA on it.
Other Thoughts: (3) 250GB ST3250620AS purchased in 5/2007 Made in Thailand - still going with no issues. (2) 1.5TB ST31500341AS purchased in 12/2008 Made in China - one drive returned 2 times, the other returned 3 times. My current 500GB was Made in China too. Things that make you go, "mmmmmmm."

New HD SWEET just what i always wanted
Pros: NEW HD low price...or is it HAHA still worth the purchase after you create the partition 476 GIGS or so
Cons: About the HD well lets see there are none... I will write another review in a couple months after owning the HD Of all seriousness about it you have to create the first partition on this drive but that is expected it's a brand new drive
Other Thoughts: Received the HD Thought it was DOA then put some thinking into it... called my brother and he confirmed what i was thinking that i had to create the initial partition
FREAKIN' Great price on a 500 GB HD I WILL GET ANOTHER ONE

Fast and Quiet
Pros: Not much to say about a hard drive, but it is barely audible and is quite fast. I was going to get a Western Digital but one of my friends who has a 500GB Caviar said his was really loud so I got the Seagate 500GB and its very quiet.
Cons: Slightly slower than a WD drive. But that's not noticeable in the least.

Great little HD
Pros: This is a great little HD. Used the BYTECC IDE Adaptor IDE to SATA Converter to install it, and everything went perfectly.
Cons: Not a thing.

Pros: Drive came nice and sealed with bubble wrap and good packaging (thanks newegg)
Cons: installed the drive, proceeded with booting from my windows xp cd and never detected the drive. I tried to mount the disk using disk management but to no avail.

Great job Seagate
Pros: Fast, quiet, less vibration than others, runs cooler. 500gb 7200rpm 50 bucks free shipping - says enough.
Cons: Not really a con, but this is thinner than most SATA 3.5" hard drives. Those with brackets/caddies... beware..
Other Thoughts: I've used three of these drives for the last 3 years and are all still running smoothly. Price vs. performance this is unbeatable (unless WDC goes on sale as well). Kept cool in my NZXT tempest case, under endless hours of constant transferring I have yet to see it go above 32c.

Have 12 of these 7200.12 500GB
Pros: If they format they work. They are smaller than the 7200.10 500GB in form factor. All working drive have no errors logging in smart logs. ( I use speedfan to read the logs )
Cons: I have 2 fail in 1st 24 hours. Newegg has had the RMA since 12/14 per UPS and still have not shipped the replacement drives. Other 10 are working fine and no noise or errors after a month.
Other Thoughts: I backup every drive onto another machine (they are like mirrors of each other) in case a drive fails.

Intel Matrix Raid Random Failure Issue
Pros: Great Drives, I own 5 and love them
Cons: Only one, Intel shoud have told Seagate about the Raid Driver issue so I didn't have the expense of replacing 10 drives
Other Thoughts: If you have an Intel Matrix Raid controller and updated to version 8.9, it will randomly show drives as failing to the point that it will cause them to stop responding. Go to www.Intel.com/Support and search for CS # 030818. This has cost me over $1000 when I replaced my computer per Seagate's final recommendation and I still have the same issue. Intel now states that a replacement for the Matix Raid named Rapid Storage Technology is in Beta to replace this failed software.....

Fail
Pros: Well when it worked it seemed fast, small profile, cool.
Cons: Failed with a lot of lost data. No warning.
Other Thoughts: Purchased on 10/07/09. Started using it about November full time. I have been thru 3 different sets of hard drives in the last 4-5 months. All different mfr's. All three failed, or had compatibility issues. I guess I'm going to start doing much more research when I purchase the next drive because I want one that is reliable.

Nice and stable
Pros: Was very happy when I opened the box and found it in a anti-static bag or whatever they're called. Stuck it in the computer and has ran great ever since.
Cons: ....No LEDs on it?
Other Thoughts: Have had it for 4 months now I think and still runs smooth

No complaints
Pros: It does what it's suppose too. I bought this as a precaution after one of my Seagate drives crashed after just 2 years.
Cons: Can get a bit loud at times.
Other Thoughts: As always, Newegg is great and will get this out to you very quickly!

Great deal
Pros: Great inexpensive hard-drive with lots of space, what more could you want.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Bought this hard-drive for my little-brothers comp and it's ran smoothly ever since. It's got plenty of space for what he uses his comp for and it spins up quick. Plus the $50 price-tag is nice.

new firmware limits speed
Pros: Now, not really. Slim and quiet.
Cons: new firmware CC38 = speed limitation
Other Thoughts: Got 2 drives, from another source, I was highly anticipating them for their extreme speed, I have the 528m the 1TB version already, that one tops out at 131 MB/s this one, comes with firmware CC38 and the speed maxes out at only 106 MB/s in HD Tune 2.55. I tried them on ATI SB 760, on Syba Controller with Sil image 3132 and nVidia 740 SLi with the same top speed of 106 MB/s. True that the drive offers over 100MB/s up to 60% of the drive and average speed is 99MB/s. Raided the 2 drives in RAID0 at max capacity, 932GB and the average speed of the array was 131MB/s, while the top maxed out only at 138 MB/s. Might be the controller`s fault, wish I had ordered the Samsung F3.

Stay clear!
Pros: Cheap and fast as long as they work.
Cons: Seagate 500 gb drives have a bad history of failure. I am 4 for 5 on these drives in the last year, with one failing within three months. When they do fail, fat chance of recovering your data- they are inaccessable. I read on a tech website that one 500 gb in particular had a 30-40% failure rate. Seagate has a firmware that is supposed to resolve the "bricking", but it will only work if applied before failure. Works great one time, nothing the next.
Other Thoughts: Over the last 15 years, Western Digital drives have been much more reliable to me. The few failures I have had were on systems with too little (256 mb) memory. After having two seagate failures this week, I will buy only WD's. I guess when they bought Maxtor, they bought their reliability issues too.

Beware!
Pros: Cheap, works well when it does
Cons: High failure rates, one tech site I found when trying to resolve a problem with one of these said they have a 30-40% failure rate. Work fine one time and inaccessable the next. Said Seagate knows they had a problem and issued a firmware update to fix, but it doesn't do any good after it bricks.
Other Thoughts: I know of four of these that have failed within one year of service. That's just my customers. That's a lot of data lost. From now on, I'm sticking with Western Digital- The only ones I have had fail were with systems with less than 512 mb RAM.

Does it's job just fine
Pros: My first Seagate drive, and I wasn't disappointed. Very quiet, decent speed and a nice capacity.
Cons: None that I know of
Other Thoughts: I suppose any hard drive would be awesome after coming off of an old 120GB Western Digital IDE drive.
Can't believe I filled it up in only 7 months lol. Just ordered a 1TB Seagate drive to replace this as the master drive.

Great if they work
Pros: Bought 2 of these, one DOA, one works great.
Cons: one out of two DOA.
Other Thoughts: The drive that is working runs great, so it seems a roll of the dice with there drives.

Good
Pros: Bought 2 of these, put them in raid 1, no problems so far. They have been running for approx 3 months now. They are also slimmer than normal drives.
Cons: None to speak of
Other Thoughts: I'm running them in firmware/driver level raid with a ICH10r chipset, again, no problems, plan on buying 2 more this Christmas for raid 10.

I LOST EVERYTHING
Pros: Great while it worked.
Cons: Had it for less than two(2) years. Had tons of priceless pictures and videos that i've taken over the past few months but I never backed them up due to time restrictions. Something I planned on doing 2 weeks after the drive failed completely. I mean DEAD. Its gone and i cant get anything back. No boot. Nothing.
Other Thoughts: ILL NEVER EVER EVER BUY SEAGATE EVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE unless they start making toilet paper. Ive had a WD drive for over 8(EIGHt!!) years and its still going strong. Im just sorry i didnt have time to back my stuff up before.

Stay away from Seagate...
Pros: cheap
Cons: Cheap is also a con....I have had two Seagate hard drives and have had them have catastrophic failures. My recent the worst. I treat the drives correctly and what not and my data drive now won't be recognized AT ALL by windows, either as an internal or external drive. Will definitely not purchase anymore Seagate hard drives. Stay away from all things Seagate, failure is imminent and in the future for you if you do.

Good fast drive
Pros: Fast, inexpensive drive
Cons: Mine's had some damage to the plastic portion of the SATA power plug, but it still works fine.
Other Thoughts: Using this as a storage drive and is working as expected.
