LINKSYS WRT54GL
Pros: Excellent router...extremely secure. It is my opinion that this is one of the best routers out there and it's not that expensive. A lot of gamers recommend this model. It gives the biggest bang for the buck, ever!!!
Cons: Can't think of any.
Other Thoughts: Very fast shipment....U.S. to Canada in 2 days....wow!

Not for beginners.
Pros: Once it was properly configured, it works fine.
Cons: Set up wizard didn't work. Trouble shooting instructions were a joke. Linksys automated phone support instructions program fails half way through set up. Talk to a human being support costs an extra $9.95.
Other Thoughts: If you don't mind the extra fee the online set up worked well.

Pros: This router replaced a Netgear router that was really slow, had terrible range, and wouldn't connect to a Macbook pro at all. I setup the WRT54GL last night and now we get great coverage throughout our house on all of our computers, and the bandwidth increased about 20 fold. The Macbook pro has no problems either. I'm not going to use any of this routers fancy features, but am so far very happy with its performance and stability.
Cons: Why are routers such a pain to setup? And why are router interfaces so annoying? At first it didn't work, and after about half an hour of trying different things, I was able to get a wireless internet connection, but really really slowly (I have no idea what it was that got it working). Finally, I switched which channel the router operated on, and it now works perfectly. The internet has been around a long time. All routers should be able to do a reasonable job of functioning and be able to configuring themselves with some degree of automation (for example, scan for the most free channel). This is of course not unique to Linksys routers.

Great w/custom firmware
Pros: I bought one for my girlfriend, put dd-wrt on it and it is in the window of her apartment bouncing a wireless signal through her whole place. Before that she had to sit near the window with her laptop to only sometimes get a signal. This router's more powerful antennas make it so she always gets a signal now, anywhere in the apartment. I bought one for myself because I like the greater power of dd-wrt firmware versus Linksys' firmware on the WRT54G. I get a great signal on the other end of my house, about 60 feet away upstairs. I use some of the ethernet ports for desktop computers.
Cons: Doesn't have gigabit, only 10/100 ethernet ports. Doesn't have wireless-N, only B and G. Doesn't really matter for me since I don't use NAS or do much local networking, would just be nice if it had those faster speeds when I did!
Other Thoughts: Read thoroughly on the dd-wrt site before installing it onto this router, if you don't know what you are doing you can break ("brick") the router. They have all the info you need spread between a few different pages, one is the install page for this router, one is the "peacock thread", and another is a link from that thread. Have those three pages open when you are doing the install.

So much better than netgear
Pros: Fast, configurable (I installed DD-WRT, but the standard firmware is pretty good compared with other routers). In essence, this is awesome, I can't say much about stability yet, but so far so good. These routers have a great reputation for reliability.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Guys. OK? You need to buy this router. Do not buy a netgear, I've had nothing but problems with them.

Great Router STILL working great
Pros: Wow, where to start. This router gives you options, with a capitol O. Want to run default firmware and have it just work...this can do it. Want to flash the firmware and configure the router as a wireless bridge, yep, it can do that too. I now have 3 of these. 2 of them operating as wireless bridges, one as the gateway. All flashed to DD-WRT firmware with no problems. Followed the step by step instructions to turn it into a bridge!
Cons: Wireless G routers will soon be a thing of the past. When that happens we don't yet have a completely....totally.....awesome wireless N version to turn to. So if you are into wireless streaming of High Definition content, this may not be the router for you. There is an as of yet unproven Linux wireless N router out from Cisco, look into it.
Other Thoughts: This was my second router brand/type I have purched. I had a $50 Netgear hunk of junk I purchased from Dell with a new system. I had so many issues with it (Atheros brain overheats) that I did alot of research before deciding on a replacement router. Got this one and I have definitely been happy ever since.

Excellent hardware, open source
Pros: The open source part of this router makes it excellent. I am running "DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) std" (requires reflashing), and it is very good. There is plenty of cpu, plenty of memory, etc. and the linux interface is extremely convenient.
Cons: The software shipping on the product is horrible. If you don't reflash to dd-wrt, don't buy this. However, the flashing with ddwrt is pretty easy.
