What Happened to Intel Quality??
Pros: Intel easy installation.
Cons: Typical non flexibility - (but good for a simple computer build) The first one of this series that I ordered - The sound stopped working after 1 day. I put in a SB PCI card and ordered another MB to replace. The second was DOA. = at lease I will besaving money on shipping. So much for tryingto keep my server up and running.
Other Thoughts: I will keep this forum posted when I get the replacements. I sure did not expect this from Intel!

Nice little board
Pros: Installed and runs no problems. Using this as a mini server (for software testing) so onboard graphics is a plus -- it mostly runs headless.
Cons: Installed Server 2003 32bit, had some difficulties installing the LAN drivers as MB driver disc doesn't support that particular OS.

Nice once running
Pros: Good board for the money and all the features I needed to replace a business computer. Good support from Intel.
Cons: Took awhile the first one I built because they neglect to tell you XP SP1 will not install with this board. Once I found that on google and slipstreamed my copy of XP it was fine.
Other Thoughts: The second build with this board took less than an hour with no problem.

Pros: Great little mATX board! Has just the right features for a low-wattage router or similar: low-end integrated graphics (it's all you need!) and quality Intel PCIe Gigabit Ethernet. Has the latest ICH9 southbridge.
Cons: Took me a while to figure out which kernel drivers it needs for the PATA interface. Look for the "Legacy Marvell PATA" option.
Southbridge runs pretty warm - needs just a little breeze over it from a nearby fan. RAM slots are a little too close to the edge of the board, which makes for a tight fit with cabling in small cases.

Don't use with RedHat
Pros: It looks nice
Cons: RedHat EL 5.0 will not work with it. There is a bug in the BIOS and/or ACPI implementation. Many have reported the problem.
Other Thoughts: Very strange to have these problems with Intel boards

Fair to Good mobo
Pros: Able to install XP64, XP32, Linux, and Win 2003. Haven't tried Vista yet. However, no video drivers for 2003. 4 memory slots is nice. Sata cables included clip. Easy to work with in a mATX case.
Cons: The bios is not for those that like to tweak. Unable to use DDR2/800 @444 timings. All memory can only be run @555 timings. What happens is that the motherboard does not shutdown properly under Linux or Windows. When you tell the OS to shutdown it goes through its motion then you get a fuzzy screen, wait a few mins, then it shuts down. A few seconds later it boots back up! I was able to confirm with Intel tech support about the memory timings supported, but not the problem I was having. A majority of my testing was done on a fresh install of XP with no drivers added. As soon as I set the timings to 444 @DDR2/800, the shutdown problem appeared. A simple change back to 555 timings fixed the problem. Very weird. Intel tech support was nice to talk to with helpful suggestions. I did try another PSU, flashed the latest 0413 bios, did a recover bios flash and reseated the mobo with no fix to the shutdown problem.
Other Thoughts: Based on my conversation with Intel tech support, the board is working as designed. Therefore, don't waste 444 memory on this board. I did notice an oddity where after a fresh bios flash, you can manually set the voltage. After you save and exit the bios, the voltage setting disappears upon re-entering the bios. The inability to change the memory voltage can be easily resolved by a new bios to include this feature. This board was meant for Vista AHCI mode. XP/2003 requires you to be in IDE Legacy mode. This is also required if you do a bios flash using the DOS method. The bios is larger than 1.44MB and must be put on a CD to do it this way. You can use a usb flash drive to do the recover bios method. That's a nice feature and seems to be a better way of flashing the bios.

update: fastest box I now own
Pros: update: I connected this server system to another 'very fast' box that I built (a 975x e6600 linux raid box with 8 500gb drives in raid5). both systems were on gig-e (1500mtu) and this system mounted the 975x system via nfs. I was able to SEE a real measured 55MB/sec and that was end to end file copy over nfs between this system and the remote 8-disk raid box.
I give the intel pro1000 and ich8 an A++ ! when I get local-bus speed over nfs using cheap hardware, I'm impressed.
Cons: does not take ECC but can use ECC-based ram.
Other Thoughts: ich8r series has ahci and that let me get immediate plug events when you insert and remove drives. linux software raid (md device) seems to work fine with this chipset.
note that I'm using the CHEAPEST intel cpu I could find; a low power (35w) celery420. and I still get 55MB/sec thruput over nfs. my, my, my - the celery 1.6ghz for under fifty dollars sure makes a nice NAS cpu!

linux server heaven!
Pros: intel pro1000 gig-e chipset. the best you can get for consumer-level. ich8r family (ahci for linux 'md' raid). onboard video for boot and config.
linux 2.6.24 has 'out of the box' support for this board; esp. its ethernet and sata (ie, the most important things).
in fact, I was able to take a 2.6.24 boot disk (ide) and just move it over to this box and boot it - with NO change at all (try THAT with windows. I don't think you can...)
so far, I'm quite happy with this. its going to be a md-raid box for media serving.
Cons: fussy about ram. I used kingston 'server ram' in the value-ram family. the ram I used has ECC ability even though this MB can't take adv. of ECC. still, the ram passes memtest86 so I'm happy.

Chipset problems
Pros: esata, fit requirements for other hardware. Intel boards have been solid for me, hopefully this one will be no different.
Cons: Installing XP was a nightmare. New chipset doubled my installation time because of troubleshooting. Sata hard drive blue screens, PCI Express blue screens, Usb root hub wouldn't load so all usb devices weren't even recongized.
Other Thoughts: I've built over a hundred machines with intel motherboards over the last 3 years. Never had these problems, this was first with G33 chipset. Advice: Update Bios (be prepared its too large to do by floppy), make sure you have XP SP2 or vista install disc otherwise PCI Express blue screens. Enable IDE for sata control, enable USB legacy. Install chipset update utility AFTER usb drivers and verify the usb root hub is working.

Great Board very smooth install
Pros: High end intel technology. great Network card very good vista support. very reliable i have purchased 13 so far and not one failure i cant say the same for asus.
Cons: need sp2 disk for xp to install but thats not a big deal and is easy to do.
Other Thoughts: one note to get full vista compliant drivers bios must be updated to latest ver. and drivers.

Great Motherboard ... but!
Pros: Great motherboard, and delivers everything Intel claims.
Cons: MAKE SURE: you buy DDR2/800Mhz; 18V; 5-5-5-15 ONLY. This can be a real headache since intel didn't make a more flexible board.
Other Thoughts: Get the latest BIOS update from support.intel.com right away.

Worst Motherboard Made Ever...
Pros: It dynamically cools based on CPU load, so it keeps quiet most of the time.
Cons: - I had about 5 motherboard fail either purchased through newegg, or through another brick and mortar vendor - One worked for 1 day, then failed , upon reboot machine exhibited a '3 beep' failure. - Out of the 6 total motherboard, ive only been able to get 2 online. With a failure rate of 66%, I cant believe that the only way to diagnose a motherboard problem is '3 beeps'. Ram + CPU + HDDs are all fine....

AHCI SATA Gotcha
Pros: Pretty good value.
Cons: As others have noted, Intel does not provide the means to install the AHCI SATA driver under Windows XP. Not on the included CDs, not on the section of their web site devoted to the motherboard. I eventually found what I needed on the section of the web site devoted to RAID controllers (note the board does NOT have RAID) where I matched it up to the motherboard's chipset (not the motherboard model, just the chipset). Very poor work on Intel's part.
Other Thoughts: Otherwise easy to set up, with pretty good features.

Have your AHCI drivers ready for XP!
Pros: Has all of the current, and legacy connectors, that you could possibly ask for. BE SURE to follow Intel's recommend-memory specifications, to avoid trouble. Other than that, great support for a wide variety of processors, and memory speeds.
Cons: If you're installing XP, BE SURE to make a driver disk, to support the AHCI SATA controller, that's on the motherboard; comes enabled, in BIOS, by default. Intel DOES NOT provide one, with this motherboard, for some reason... XP DOES NOT natively support AHCI (this is NOT Intel's fault), so an OEM XP SP2 install will BLUE SCREEN, when it tries to load the Window's XP setup routine. You can set the controller to "IDE", in the BIOS, to avoid this problem, but will forego the performance aspects of AHCI. The drivers can be downloaded from Intel's website. The lack of diskette did waste about an hour of my time :o(.
Other Thoughts: All in all, I'm running this mobo, with a 1333 fsb, core 2 duo 2GHZ processor, and it runs at a cool 86 degs, with the stock cooler :o). Can't complain about that. I use it in a business environment, so I'm interested in "operational stability", more so than overclocking, and gaming.

Not a good choice
Pros: Layout of connections is good
Cons: Used in a new build. Would not recognize my SATA hard drive without installing SATA Drivers which are required to be on a floppy, who has floppies anymore? TYhus i could not install Windows because I had "no Hard drive" So I replaced with an PATA Hard drive and then it would only install XP up to "press F8 to agree" page, then it would lock-up and go no further. I switched it out with an Asus Board and 20 minutes later I had a computer running great. I spent 8 hours trying to get this one to work and after all that the Asus Board took only 20 min.
Other Thoughts: Shouldn't all Motherboards these days had SATA drivers pre-installed?

6month Update, Fair Price, dont expect reliability
Pros: Nice price, stable, nicely stable. Takes Core2 allendale, pentium dual core E21XX, and Conroe 1066,1333 chips. G33 chipset awesomely fast 1333-800Mhz can use 533-800 DDR2 mem
Cons: Audio is flat, Realtek HD junk. DIED AFTER 6mo of service. Pitiful, I had an $50 ECS last 2 years. Some flash drives induced a sudden shutdown.
Other Thoughts: Disappointed, got Intel mobo for rock solid stability, inserted my flash drive and BAM Mobo murder! Cleared the bios, took out the battery, followed instuctions rebuilt the whole system twice. Bench tested 500W PSU, all flawless. No fire but 5VLED light worked great. Specs at death: BIOS Version 297 Intel E4400 2.0Ghz, 800FSB, 2GB Kingston 667Mhz DDR2, Seagate 7200.9 80GB, WDC 160GB SE, Seagate 7200.10 320GB HIS Radeon X1600Pro 512MBDDR2

Details on Linux
Pros: 2nd board I have purchased. Both very reliable and work well.
Cons: Bought Newegg "Open Box" of this boxed motherboard. You just get the motherboard wrapped in bubblewrap. No box no nothing.
RAM is 1.8v only
No overclocking
Disappointed that Intel makes modern chipsets that burn so much power despite running adverts claiming to be "green".
Other Thoughts: Bit tricky under linux.
Need pci=nommconf line on kernel boot line (in grub)
SATA works on recent kernels
Intel latest GbE ethernet chip is not supported by 'e1000' in kernel source tree - you need to download and compile the www.intel.com driver (not hard).
G33 X windows driver is very tricky - does not seem to be supported by any off the shelf kernels yet. Lots of different bits need recompiling. I am using this machine as a headless server so I didn't bother. Would strongly advise against using on-board graphics with Linux.

Pros: Fair price, good connectivity 8 rear USBs, stable, good hardware monitor utility, simple bios, rear fire wire port, simple documentation, 2 SATA cables with quality locks
Cons: No overclocking options in bios. Drivers on disc would not load went to website with second computer and transfered via thumb drive. GPU MSI NX8600GTS card covers one PCI express X1 port completely, and partially covers 1 PCI expansion slot, only 2 fan conections.
Other Thoughts: Great board for the family without gaming teens. I game moderatly, do some simple graphics work, and home office computing. I did not use the onboard graphics. System posted first time no hiccups or lockups. Coolermaster Centurion case with 380 psu, Intel 6750 processor, MSI NX8600GTS 256MB GPU, 2 GB A-DATA ram, 2 80cfm fans, 1 120 cfm fan, 2 W/D 250 SATA HDDs.

Good board, save energy, not Linux friendly
Pros: Great board with all needed interfaces on board for a high performance PC. Run Vista very stable. Measured the power consumation is 99W at idle, and 150W when busy. Much better than the ASUS boards we have that is constantly at 160W, with same E6550 CPU. It works even with older P3 power supply, not like ASUS boards that made power supply pump out a lot of hot air all the time.
Cons: Does not work with some Linux distribution, since the chip set driver is not in all Linux distribution, or default kernel source from kernel.org.
Other Thoughts: We slowly get rid of old PCs with this board and E6550 CPU. With much faster speed, it uses less power than our old 1GHz P3. Save our earth by buying this board now from NewEgg!

Good Mobo but no OC
Pros: Works stable and fast with everything I have installed, Vista 32bit, 64 bit, Audio,on-board Video (directx 10), plenty USB 2 and firewire. Good price for what it's worth.
Cons: No option in BIOS to set mem voltage. Run into problem when OCZ 4GB kit (2x2GB) requires 2.0v (Mobo default 1.8v) for it's max frequency (DDR2-6400 is recognized as DDR2-5300 by this Mobo), made OS slow like P4 when add other DDR2-6400 mem.
Other Thoughts: Will return this Mobo for a GA or Asus for mem option in BIOS.

Nice, Need More Fan Terminals
Pros: good layout to mount aftermarket heatsinks, SATA layout is deccent.
Cons: Not enough places to plug in fans, ended up splicing into my power supply which I did not enjoy AT ALL.
Other Thoughts: over all a good board for lan gamers wanting a good budget lan rig, or even a work station for a office user.

Works Great
Pros: Inexpensive, Intel, Does exactly what it says
Cons: DVI and or HDMI video would be nice. Very limited tuning ability. Can't manually adjust ram voltage, but my 2.1 volt RAM is working.
Other Thoughts: Works exactly as it should for a simple inexpensive system. Combined with an E6550 and a Raptor, performance is extremely close to my D975XBX2 w/ E6600 which cost a lot more money. I didn't try the onboard audio or video as I am using an ATI X1950XTX and X-Fi.

Works well, somewhat Linux friendly
Pros: It's a G33 microatx board. If you need the features of the G33 (1333MHz bus, onboard video, onboard gigabit ethernet) in this form factor, it does fine. Works great for me with an E6850 and 4x1GB Kingston DDR2-800.
Cons: Not entirely Linux friendly yet (see other thoughts). Reporting ICH temp of 90 degrees C?! This is on both boards (I bought 2).
Other Thoughts: Current linux distributions may have trouble installing on this board. Fedora Core 7, for example, will not be able to install due to the kernel not having drivers for the onboard SATA or ethernet. I made a custom FC7 installation CD that worked, and once it's installed, the more recent kernel image in FC7 updates works perfectly with this board. Other distributions will likely have similar issues. The next versions of Fedora, Ubuntu, etc. will probably all have a recent enough kernel for there to be no problems.

Newegg's description is wrong
Pros: Stil an excellent board as per my last review.
Cons: Still none
Other Thoughts: Newegg's description of this board is wrong; it supports DDR2 667 (for a 1333MHz FSB), NOT DDR3.

Excellent board
Pros: High quality Intel-made board - very fast with a E6750 and 2GB Kingston memory.
Cons: None right now
Other Thoughts: If the board is in AHCI mode Windows installs fine if you slipstream the drivers via nLite.

Very Unhappy
Pros: Great Specs, board should be great for my needs.
Cons: Couldnot get to work with a E6320 CPU, Did a AWR RMA with Intel, Replacement board did not work either, tried 2 seperate 6320 CPU's, varrying kingston ram, and ANTEC power supplys, still doesnt post and NEWEGG wants a restocking fee!!!
Other Thoughts: Stear Clear Let intel get the bugs worked out. Looks like issue occures after SATA detection, however cannot enter bios to bypass etc.

Excellent, fast, stable
Pros: Board is well designed with abundant features. Audio/video excels. Layout is comfortable to work with. Performance is super even with low-end (1.8) Core 2 Duo CPU. Comes with adequate set-up instructions.
Cons: There is no parallel nor serial port provided. Who cares? There are abundant USB 2 ports
Other Thoughts: Adequate instructions best augmented by downloading full manual from Intel site. Not a chore. If you install a NON-Vista OS, you MUST change BIOS to configure HD from SATA to IDE. Again, not a big chore.

Needs Help
Pros: Cheap, made by Intel and works (eventually).
Cons: The BIOS needs a lot of work. You will need to set your BIOS drive options from the default AHCI to IDE before you can load Windows. Vista drivers on CD not present on web.Their technical support needs help.
Other Thoughts: Will probably return this for a GIGABYTE GA-G33M-DS2R.

Stable reliable
Pros: Everything works, G33 chipset quite quicker than a 945G. Works with Pentium Dual Core T21XX, and Core2 EXXXX and QXXXX 800,1066, 1333 Processors! Onboard GPU X3100 backup. Realtek888 HD sound not bad, better than IntelStudio, and STAC97XX.
Cons: Zero overclocking, Its Intel- all about stablity. Does not Do Pentium D 9XX processors. BIOS bugs annoying but nothing major. init release what do u expect. Runs slightly toasty. North and south bridges can get to the 70C Ensure good ventilation.
Other Thoughts: Expect update BIOS releases soon and fix Bios bugs. Running a C2D E4400, 2GB kingston 667DDR2, ATIx1600. WARNING! Set ur BIOS drive options from the default AHCI to IDE. Took me 2 hrs to figure out how to make my 2 Hard Drives be recognized by BIOS.

Pros: Made by Intel. Drivers for Vista on Disk provided.
Cons: none yet.
Other Thoughts: Not DDR3, and memory is still only 1.8V.

Not ddr 3
Pros: Made by intel so it has to be good, good basic board
Cons: Not ddr 3, check intel website, says supports ddr 2 800/667 240 pin, not really a con though cuz ddr 3 is expensive as of right now

Nice board, but tricky with Linux
Pros: Seems like usual Intel high quality parts. Cool running (mostly) 82566 is a decent GbE chip Built in graphics saves a few bucks
Cons: Quite a few teething troubles with Linux, as current off-the-shelf kernels are not aware of many of the chips on this board (G33/ICH9/82566) but finally booting up using latest 2.6.22-rc4-mm2 ICH9 runs a bit hot
Other Thoughts: Why does it have a floppy i/f? No overclocking as usual for Intel
