Rating + 4 Good for general computing

Pros: Nice all-in-one board for inexpensive system building.

I built a system with this board back in 6/2009 and it has been on 7x24 since with absolutely no problems. (Okay, I've had problems but that's with Win/XP and not with the MoBo or other hardware components.)

Back in 9/2008 I built a system for a friend with the predecessor to this MoBo - the Intel DG33TL. It's also been running just fine since then.

To build a system with minimal fuss this was a good choice for me.

I give it four eggs only because I've never found a motherboard whose layout is worth five eggs. There's always something that's going to make you wonder "how the heck did they decide to put *that* there?"

For building a general-purpose computer I would use this MoBo again.

Cons: For what I wanted to build, none.

Other Thoughts: System built with the following components:

- Intel BOXDG35EC LGA 775 Intel G35 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400

- Western Digital Caviar Blue WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
- Sony Optiarc 24X DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black SATA Model AD-7240S-0B (Q=2)
- ENERMAX Liberty ELT400AWT 400W ATX12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Active PFC Power Supply
- G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ

Rating + 3 Intell needs to work on their boards.

Pros: It works,
and stuff like that

Cons: Let's see.
- Random Death Screens on Windows when running MCE, WMP, or sometimes random programs that try to use HPET when disabled or enabled.
-As stated before, IDE PATA does not stay active; destroyed my old 200GB Hard Drive, and one CD/DVDRW drive. you would have to either restart or hibernate the computer to get it back.
-as soon as i got the board, the DVI Port failed to work, and a memory holder latch broke. after installing a GFX card, and taking it out because i was cleaning my computer, and testing everything out, All intel video refused to work.
-to SIIG card reader people: This board completely deactivates the reader after a while. i still have yet to try it on a new board.
-MAJOR ISSUES-

-1- The Memory after extended on time or use will sometimes shut down and the computer completely thinks that it is overheated. after rebooting, the entire computer stays off until you completely take all of the modules out, and insert them one at a time, turning the [-(go down)-]

Other Thoughts: [-(continued)-]
computer on with every insert, turning it off between inserting.
-2- After going into Suspension Mode, or Hibernation mode, the board will not make the effort to enable itself without completely shutting off or unpluging or restarting or resettnig the computer. After tht, youll get the resuming windows and like that, but its really annoying to keep doing.

My point is if you want to get this board, get an external graphics card if you want uninterrupted use of video on your system, prepare for the shutdowns, and reset button pressing. PUMP THOSE FINGER JOINTS!

Rating + 1 Junk

Pros: Nice feature set and price - if it worked.

Cons: This motherboard is horrible.

Here are the symptoms:

1. Random freezes.
2. Blue screens when using IE or WMP.
3. PATA CD-ROM disappears (you must unplug, reboot, replug, reboot again).
4. Atrocious performance - a program that I run starts out estimating 8 minutes to complete, then suddenly bogs down and takes 1 hour and 25 minutes. The same job takes 4 minutes on my 2 year old desktop, and 11 minutes on my 6 year old laptop!

I can't believe Intel would put their name on this piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: Look at the low ratings. Web search the model and see lots of complaints about the freezes and the PATA problem. Save your money, and a lot of aggravation and try something else.

Rating + 4 Good Mother Board for ESX

Pros: This Intel G35 chipset ICH8 controller with 4-SATA ports, 2 EIDE and up to 8gb of ram system board runs great with the Intel Core2Quad 2.86 GHZ processor. I have VMware ESXi3.5 running on it with a Western Digital 1 TB SATA hard drive and a SATA DVD writer.

Cons: This Intel G35 Chipset ICH8 controller system board has a Network controller that is not compatible with VMware ESX server operating system. I had to install a PCI 3com network controller in order for the ESX server to recognize the network after with runs great.

Other Thoughts: This Intel corp. needs to communicate with VMware corp. and make the controllers/components compatible just like Intel and Microsoft. If this system board would have the Intel ICH8 (ICH8R) controller with raid technology would also work well.

Rating + 3 Not very imoressive

Pros: Price, onboard video card.

Cons: onboard video card is not that good.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board for a media center pc. On my 47 inch TV. Video is below average. On my 23 inch TV video is only average. Only good for surfing the net.

Rating + 5 Great ESXi 4.0 motherboard

Pros: I have built two VMware ESXi 4.0 servers using this board. Support for 8 GB is great. The built in ethernet port is recognized by ESXi.

Cons: I might go one less PCI Express slot and one more PCI slot. But that's just me.

Other Thoughts: Built a ESXi server with quad core, 8GB, 1TB for around $610.

Rating + 5 BIOS Revisions Keep Getting Better

Pros: I've bought motherboards from primarily 1st tier manufacturers/suppliers, such as Abit (R.I.P.), Asus, Gigabyte, and Intel), and I've always had the best luck with Intel in terms of Customer Service, and continued BIOS improvements. Yes, I know... Intel Desktop Boards are actually manufactured by Foxconn. The latest BIOS for this board (0116) greatly improves the board, and adds additional CPU Fan Control options, especially for non-Intel HSF solutions. Previously, the CPU Fan Control in the BIOS was very limited - someone at Intel has been listening. The board just keeps getting better.

Cons: None, given it's a micro-ATX board design.

Other Thoughts: Intel's website, and ease of BIOS updates, is the best in the industry. I've used Asus and Gigabyte's websites, and most often, slow is the word.

Rating + 5 Updated Review

Pros: Solid board - good features and performance at an inexpensive price.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Update of my earlier review on March 25. Still 5 eggs. A year of daily use and still no problems. I installed the Windows 7 RC 64-bit in a dual-boot setup with my existing XP. Win 7 found all necessary drivers for the board to get it up and running. Performance with the new OS is very good - fast and stable. The Aero video interface runs smoothly - better than I would have expected for on-board video.

Rating + 1 Good then dead

Pros: Follow-on review. Installed board in new HTS build and it worked fine for a couple of months. Now it will not post.

Cons: Lack of support from Intel when needed. Was working with Intel live chat. Told to disconnect power, remove board from case and let sit one hour then log back into chat. Tried an hour later (2000 EDT), no chat. Chat has now been unavailable since 2000 EDT Last night (Friday 6/25/09). Intel is a multinational. Their support should be available 24-7-365. For a tier 1 company, this is very bad customer support. I expected better. Be warned, Intel support is not there when needed!

Other Thoughts: I buy Intel MBs for my builds because they are usally rock steady and never had a problem until now. Have never needed Intel's support until now. Now that I do, I am very, very disapointed it is soooooo lacking. Will have to reconsider my purchase decessions.

Rating + 5 Still Excellent After 6 Months

Pros: Very stable, excellent fan control, plenty of I/O capability and CPU support.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Although I read all of the negative reviews on the DG35EC, my personal experience is excellent. I used this motherboard for a business computer build and it's running 14 hours a day, seven days a week - and, it's stable with not one glitch in over 6 months of continuous use. I'm using it with WinXP Pro, 2GB of Ram, E2200 CPU, and SATA HD and SATA DVD-R drives - again, perfect operation. In fact, this is my 5th Intel desktop board and I've never had a problem with any of them. This PC is extremely "mission critical" for me, and I would not hesitate to purchase another DG35EC for another build. Frankly, I can't understand why so many are having troubles with this board.

Rating + 4 Upon further review

Pros: Intel LAN / Video / Audio well supported under Linux, OpenSolaris

Cons: BIOS updates could be easier under non-Windows OSes. A minimal Linux kernel, *.BIO file and a bash script shouldn't be too difficult for Intel to incorporate into a ISO CD image.

Missing I/O shield.

Other Thoughts: This is an update on my earlier review. After securing some Kingston memory to try out, it appears that I may have been bitten by the Muskin DDR2 5-5-5-12 memory. See...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16820146693

The Kingston memory made the difference between a dead system and one that runs.

Rating + 1 Missing I/O shield, flaky, then dead

Pros: Intel LAN chipset, HD Audio, all well supported under Linux, OpenSolaris.

Cons: OpenSolaris installed fine, but started experiencing crashes (sudden hardware reboots) - not at all typical of OpenSolaris. Eventually, it died, unable to even get to the BIOS - fans and drives spinning, but no video, no NumLock light on the keyboard, etc. I removed the Nvidia 9600GT card and hooked the monitor to the Intel DVI video port- still no luck. Jumpered the BIOS reset pins - still no luck. I'm out $90 (see below).

Other Thoughts: The motherboard was missing it's I/O shield, which should have been a clue. I'm beginning to think this motherboard was a returned unit. But because I began my build after the 30-day Newegg return period, I am out of luck. The lesson here is get the build done as soon as you get the parts. If you run into problems like me, you can RMA it for an exchange.

Rating + 1 Another Intel Failure

Pros: Fast to boot up.

Cons: This motherboard fails to provide the bios information that Windows XP requires to recognize my keyboard. I have another machine with a 5 year old Intel motherboard that does the same thing. I have gone over this time and again with Intel support and they refuse to even acknowlege that a problem exists. I would think they would have fixed this problem by now. I have several other machines with motherboards made by other manufacturers and have never seen this problem in any of them.

Rating + 1 Had to change MB

Pros: Liked that it worked with Q6600 and Corsair XMS2 DHX (2x2gb). Was running Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS. Had intermittent display (mouse & keyboard) freeze issue. Internet searches yielded no help. Navigating Intel support is a maze. Finally, big time display freeze and then reports no HD to boot from. Replaced HD with identical HD and it lasted three days.

Cons: Discovered that SATA has failured and that was wrecking my HD's. Thought intermiittent display freeze issue was related to onboard video. Added Nvidia card and still freezes continued. Sorry, Intel, I have to replace your MB.

Other Thoughts: Have had too many Intel MB (over the years) that have failed. Guess I will buy others from now on. Again, sorry, Intel. If you built a better "mousetrap" than I would continue buying. But, your company, like many, are just searching to cut costs, and are not justify quality of product, then you loose. If it is a better "mousetrap" people will buy quality.

Rating + 4 HTSPC Build

Pros: Good solid mATX MB. Only one I could find that had the slots I needed for my build at a sub $100 price. I used this MB as the base for an HTS build in an old Cooler Master ATCS case I had laying around.

Cons: Wiped out my OS when I flashed the BIOS using the Intel windows update file. I hadn't finished the build and I was able to reload, so no harm done.

Other Thoughts: The rest of my build: Intel E7300 CPU, MSI n9400GT graphics, 2x2GB A-Data PC2-800 RAM, SB PCI-e X-fi Xaudio, AverMedia TVHD A180, Promise FTTX2260 PCI-e SATA pushing 2 WD10EADS 1TB HDs in a RAID-0, a WD1600YS boot-drive and a SATA DVDRW on the MB SATA all pushed by a Corsair WS550 PS.

Rating + 2 It works sometimes

Pros: Operating system and drivers installed successfully. Boots fast.

Cons: Doesn't recognize the keyboard half the time on cold boot. Motherboard is bent from the processor fan mounting (weak board needs reinforcement).

Other Thoughts: There is no parallel port for a printer. It is hard to believe that this board has this problem with my keyboard since I have had it for years and used it on many other machines with no problems.

Rating + 5 Excellent Board

Pros: Excellent board - stable, reliable and full of features at a very attractive price. Even the on-board video is excellent.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: In operation and used daily for 8 months and counting without any hiccups. Equipped with a Core2-Duo 3.16ghz processor and 4 gigs of Kingston DDR2-800 1.8v ValueRAM, it is very quick and responsive. I used the Antec TruePower Trio 430-W PSU; that, combined with Intel's fan speed controls, has resulted in a nearly silent, cool running PC with low power consumption. Haven't used the PATA - SATA drives are inexpensive and have much better throughput than the old stuff anyway - not to mention the easier cabling. Entire build, with everything new (from Newegg, of course!) was under $600. Lots of bang for the buck.

Rating + 1 Recanting my Previous Review

Pros: Design Concept is good

Cons: Everything from quality to Customer Service...STAY AWAY!

Other Thoughts: Returned the first one after a week, no replacement available but NEWEGG refunded and I purchased same Brand and Model with another Vendor.
It worked really well for about a little over a month and it died, the same symptoms as the first one and mind you this MB is the latest AA - 207. Emailed Intel and returned to them but before returning I did a thorough physical examination of the MB, nothing...not even a scratch. When Intel received it and inspected, all of a sudden there was a a scratch on the underside of the MB due to this they say, they will not replace it. How can that be wherein the MB worked for a little over a month and I am sure if it had that damage it would have not booted at all. Was using it 24/7 and Intel blames me for the damage.
I say they did that damage to protect their name and reputation knowing fully well that their product is of inferior quality. This MB was made by FOXCONN!
STAY AWAY FROM INTEL MB, GET ASUS or MSI or GIGABYTE.

Rating + 4 Addendum to Previous Review

Pros: Good design, easy to setup.

Cons: Apparently the board now is thinner than previous boards and am thinking its only 3 ply and not the standard minimum of 4 ply. Built the machine 1/10/2009 updated BIOS and all the standard procedures but motherboard would not post after just 12 days!

Other Thoughts: I think Intel should not have allowed this and ruin their name by cutting corners. Whoever is manufacturing Intel's MB and Intel not monitoring and/or with their knowledge and no QC, is cutting corners and using inferior components. Hopefully the CPU is not ruined because of this. Today sent off MB for replacement and now using backup PC with a 5 year old Intel P4 motherboard that is thicker and still work the same as when it was new.

In my opinion, Newegg should have an Agreement with the manufacturers regarding quality if more than 5% of goods are found to be defective and/or of poor quality, the whole shipment should not be accepted. Thats a standing SOP of large scale local importers.

Rating + 5 Intel MB

Pros: As far as motherboards are concerned nothing beats Intel in quality, stability and compatability. Just slap everything in and VOILA, up and running unlike the likes of other boards and Ive tried quite a bit since 1989 including the defunct ones, AMI & Tekram. Nothing fancy with Intel MBs just overall dependability if one does critical computing...why tweak a Ferrari! Ive been upgrading and assembling my own PCs since the advent of Intel 80286 and AMDs 486 & 586 CPUs...Intel and AMD used to be partners, AMD providing the chipsets and Intel the CPU.

People who tweak, get a life...spend extra bucks if you want faster system. Don't get caught up in all these marketing hypes, what you want is a stable and dependable system!

Cons: Nothing really to speak off.

Other Thoughts: If one wants to tweak hidden BIOS settings it can be done, just download from Intel the software BIOS to adjust hidden settings. Actually you will not need it.

Rating + 5 Not Intel's Best, but Good Enough

Pros: Good, and versatile, CPU support; easy configuration and installation; excellent basic set-up instructions with extensive information on Intel's website; 4 ea. SATA ports; extensive I/O on back panel; support for legacy IDE and Floppy; nice on-board graphics. Excellent board for business, or general purpose use. Not for gamers, as BIOS is very limited.

Cons: Board seems thinner than previous Intel desktop boards (I presume it's still a 4-layer motherboard??); did not post when I first booted computer - took several tries, but finally, it did boot. Only 1 PCI slot, but after all, it's a microATX board. No major complaints.

Other Thoughts: Very slow delivery by UPS 3-day - it took over 11 days from the time Newegg shipped. Lately, UPS shipments from Newegg in CA, go through the Des Moines, IA hub, then to Rockford, IL, then (for some inexplicable reason) to the Louisville, KY hub, and finally, back tracking to central Illinois (my location). Very strange routing, as this route always extends delivery time far beyond expected delivery time.

Rating + 4 Good, But...

Pros: Solid OEM style board. I've used this in a headless Hyper-V sever with Q6600 and 8GB of memor for 4 months and it's been very reliable

Cons: I had issues trying to get the PATA interface to work with my legacy harddrives. It would detect, partition and format but then flakeout. Switching to SATA harddrives solved the problem and I've had no problems using the PATA for my CD/DVD drive.

Other Thoughts: At the time, this was the best price/features for a 64bit motherboard with 8GB of memory support. Other boards are now on the market that support 16GB at a similar price point. Higher density memory modules are currently double the price per gigabyte. If you know you'll only ever need 8GB, then I reccomend this board. But if you think you'll wait for prices to drop and upgrade to 16GB one day, I reccomend you look elsewhere.

Pros: Rear and front panel Firewire, onboard video with DVI. No frills, easy installation.

Cons: Purchased a BFG 9800 GT OC video card and I can't get it to work with this board. I don't think it's the video card because I've now tried two and I get the same result. PC boots up ok with the new card, but on the 2nd boot I get no signal. Video card just doesn't seem to work for more than one boot? Anyone else have this problem? Gonna try updating the BIOS I guess.

Rating + 5 Found the I/O Shiled

Pros: Thanks to Douglas P, I've got the I/O shield now. The build is finished, it's rock solid, and I've seen none of the problems others pointed out. I did run with the onboard video for a week but ran into a problem with it when I installed the accelerator drivers from Intel. They hit the processor very hard. I fixed it by sticking an old Nividia card in. According to the Vista scrore, the onboard video is the weakest link. But, honestly, for $50 on here you can get a smoking fast video card which would keep up with the rest of your system. If you don't go that route and stick with the onbaord video, avoid the graphics accelerator download from Intel.

Cons: So far I haven't found a decent temperature monitor program. I think that MBM will work, with a little work, but if you know of a better one please e-mail me at ltisteve@verizon.net .

Other Thoughts: After installing this board, I am a bit more skeptical of some of the reviews Ive seen. Yes, I think that there were some bad boards and people who normally wouldn't write felt like telling us of their probelms, that's okay. But to read the riot act because it didn't work with an IDE DVD drive? Come on. My SATA drive showed up later so I did the intall with a USB DVD driver, worked fine. When the board was on idle at 40 percent and afer installing lot of programs that had the board reved up higher, I was amazed how cool the heatsinks were. I think this may be due to a faster processor. Faster processor means not hitting the limits as often, which means less heat.
Overall this board is missing some features that would make it a lot more expensive. Honestly, they are features I have in other boards and don't use. This is a great build it, stick the cover back on it, and use it for the next five years kinda board. Buy this board and use the savings on a faster CPU.

Rating + 3 It has some issues....

Pros: On paper, this is a great, inexpensive board. On-board Video is a great option. Supports 8GB of RAM. All connectors except for the internal 1394 header (stuck between the PCI and PCIex4 slot) are in easy to access locations. A nice, no-frills motherboard.

3/5 only because I am reserving judgment for my replacement board (see below)

Cons: Don't even bother using an IDE drive on this thing. This board would not get past the BIOS setup screen when I had my IDE DVD drive hooked up (REV 205). It would show a screen that says "Hit F2 to enter BIOS setup," but would not respond. After figuring out how to install vista using a USB flash drive, I was able to get windows installed on my SATA HD, sans DVD drive.

First, I had the on-board video hooked up via DVI and noticed several lines missing in the picture (picture a bunch of random horizontal black stripes and you get the idea). I put in a new video card and everything looked fine. After getting Vista x64 up and running, the computer made it roughly three minutes before completely freezing up. The motherboard has been unresponsive ever since. Light is still on, but No POST, no Beeps, etc. Even with everything removed except some RAM and the CPU. These things have some serious issues. With that said, I'm going to take my chances with a replacement (I love torturing myself)

Other Thoughts: If you can get to a computer running vista (don't ask me why, but an XP machine can't format the flash drive correctly), you can transfer the Vista DVD to the flash drive and install vista using the flash drive (Set the BIOS to always boot to a flash drive first). I had vista installed in less than 15 minutes with the flash drive. Too bad the board didn't make it much longer after that. Hopefully someone else out there who gets sc.rewed by the IDE controller on this board will find this of use. Do a google search for "install vista from flash drive" and you can see what you need to enter in a command prompt.

Rating + 5 Strange Request

Pros: If you're building a system these days, you really should consider the total amount of memory the board can hold. 8GB sounds excessive, especially if you're only running XP. When you think long term in the 64 bit world 8GB of memory won't be a significant amount for too much longer. What attracted me to this board was that it lives on the cheap 800Mhz RAM which I was able to fill up all 8 gigs for around $50 after rebates. The other thing is that it has a 1333 FSB. Everybody thinks in terms of speed of processors, the FSB is nearly equally significant. If you go to the Intel Website using the links on this page, double check your CPU will work with this board. Most likely it will. If you are buying a new CPU, seek out the 1333 FSB.
This board is feature packed, I wanted something that was mostly an business machine, so I am good with the onboard video. Of course, if I find it lacking better videocard can be put in for not much money.

Cons: This is a micro ATX board. My first impulse was to throw it into an old case i had laying around. When I ripped out the old AMD 700mhz MOBO (yes, it's that old) and put this board in, I could see that though the screw holes lined up, this board was about half the size of the old board. It also means that yes, a lot of card slots are missing. So, if you need lots of PCI slots, this isn't the board for you. What's also interesting is that this board has front and rear fan ports, and of course all those good front side ports like audio and USB. So, I found a good micro ATX cube on here from Thermaltake and bought that as well as a new power supply.
I do have to say that the documentation and support for this board on Intel's website is great! I use mostly Asus and Intel boards. i don't game so the need for overclocking isn't that great. My last Intel board is about six years old and still works great. They make very stable boards.

Other Thoughts: Okay, now for my strange request. I bought an "Open Box" board. In case you're wondering what thats like, here's what you get. A plain white box, a motherboard in a bag, and that's it. I'm actually good with that. I don't need the documentation, DVD's, and cables. There isn't much I need aside from the motherboard, with the exeception of one part. The rear I/O shild didn't come with the board. The dual video cards on the back is kinda rare, and makes finding a replacement for this board nearly impossible. Sure it works without it, but I was wondering if someone along the way ends up with an extra I/O shiled that fits this board and doesn't need it, could you help a brotha out? ltisteve@verizon.net. Thank you so much!
One other piece of advice, if you go down the road of putting this into a new micro ATX case, take your time and read all the reviews. The two largest problems people talk about is cooling and getting their large video cards to fit.

Rating + 1 Not impressed

Pros: I got this because it had 4 DIMM slots and I wanted to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM sometime in the near future. I also got this because it had a 1333MHZ FSB.

Cons: I have the 205 version w/ the latest bios and I tried to install vista x64 w/ an IDE drive and it wouldn't recognize the drive for installation. However I have a PCI Via chipset with an IDE and sata port. I used the IDE port on it and it worked until Vista needed me to pick a storage device. It said it needed additional drivers for the drive to be recognized. WHICH I HAVE NEVER SEEN FOR A VISTA INSTALLATION. I was using the onboard SATA port for the hard, so I tried to use the SATA port on the VIA chipset and it still wouldn't work. The drivers were not on the driver disc that came with the mobo.

Other Thoughts: This is the first and last INTEL board I have purchased. This board has obvious issues w/ the IDE port and even with the latest revision and BIOS it still has not been addressed by INTEL properly.

Rating + 5 Excellent basic board

Pros: If you're not into overclocking this is a completely stable easy to set up m/b. I like having an onboard graphics controller if only for backup (my good graphics card failed and this kept me running for the two weeks until the manufactured replaced it) and it costs little or nothing over the "P" series boards.

I also wanted a low cost board with 4 memory slots for future expansion.

The OCZ Gold 2 x 1GB memory OCZ2G8002GK worked well in this board. I was concerned because although the newegg site stated 1.8V the packaging said 1.9V. I confirmed with OCZ support that it was supported.

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: Most memory configurated (newegg, Crucial, and OCZ) don't know about this board yet. Hopefully they'll be updated soon. The Kingston configurater had been updated.

Rating + 5 Good microATX for Linux

Pros: Great price, has all the features I wanted (4xDDR2, 2xPCIex1, intel G35). Everything works out of the box with linux (Ubuntu 8.10 tested, with the 2.6.27 kernel for x64). Obviously driver support was all there for Windows as well (XP x64).

Cons: I think my onboard graphics might be faulty. At 1600x1200 resolution, there are some wierd lines on both DVI and VGA, in Windows and Linux. This might be a monitor problem, as my monitor is 1680x1050 native, Linux accidentally set it to 1600x1200 once. Also, sometime I get some really bad color issues and a jumbled screen, but resetting the screen (restarting X, or rebooting) fixes it. This happened once in the BIOS, and once or twice in Linux (on DVI). I haven't really investigated these issues, because I'm not keeping the onboard graphics for long, as I need to play Fallout 3 so I'm getting a dedicated card.

Other Thoughts: Great board at a great price. BIOS doesn't do anything fancy. I have a E8400 in here, and the BIOS can't read the temp sensor (always reports it at 102C). I don't know if it's a BIOS problem or a CPU problem. Intel board means all of the pin headers for USB, Audio, Firewire, etc. are standard and work great. I've had an issue with a Gigabyte board and the Firewire headers before.

Rating + 1 Incompatibility with Memories

Pros: This is a nice Mobo and Processory combo with PS2 inputs for customers having established peripherals
also called legacy equipment

Cons: The Mobo has an incompatibility with Munchin RAM and will cause blue screening - After installing Kingston DDR2 RAM the blue screening and reinstalling the OS - the computer stabilized

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately this type of troubleshooting takes time and we lost the customer over the waiting period -
We feel it is an over-voltage on the MOBO that the Kingston RAM is able to overcome and the Munchin is sensitive to -

Pros: Nice board for Vista SP1 64 bit. 3.8 Vista rating for the onboard graphics; runs Aero nicely. Booted right up with 4G of Mushkin 996529 1.8v RAM (Intel seems to be pretty firm about RAM voltage, so why mess around). SATA DVD ROM works with no problems.

Cons: With supplied BIOS, got a cryptic "select cd rom from boot type" message when starting Vista (Home Premium OEM) install. Solution: Hit 1, Enter. Everything went as expected after that. There is no Intel hardware monitor for this chipset. Too bad my wife gets to keep this build.

Other Thoughts: Intel BIOS updates are very easy to run from inside Windows (no boot floppies etc. needed). The usual super fast Newegg shipping (48 hours to SE PA with UPS Ground). This one was the -205 revision. Vista doesn't seem so scary anymore...

Pros: Good features and everything that you really have to have.

Cons: 1. Have to reinstall Windows XP because of problems with the sound driver. This sucked. Got it to work by disabling the sound option in bios. Installing and updating everything then enabling it and not letting Windows automatically the driver.
2. Only has one IDE connector.

Other Thoughts: Download the latest bios and drivers from Intel's webiste.

Rating + 4 JMicron Chip broken

Pros: Decent price, supports 8G, everything works out of the box with Ubuntu Except the PATA port.

Cons: The JMicron chip sucks...badly. It will work for a bit, but doing a CD burn, or just letting the CDROM sit there, and the JMicron chip will lock up. I tried 2 different CDROMs before just buying a SATA CDROM/DVD, and that works fine.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy motherboards with the JMicron Chip on them. Unfortunately, the only way to find out what is on there is to go to the Motherboard driver site and see if they have a driver for the JMicron chip for that motherboard. If they do, don't buy it.

Rating + 5 Remember AA-205

Pros: I have built 12 of DG35EC's just remember to get the AA-205 version of this board. I actually tested the AA-205 revision with the most current BIOS ( ECG3510M.86A ), and with Windows XP SP-3. The BIOS is upgrade-able but the revision is NOT.

Cons: Not the best thing INTEL ever built

Other Thoughts: I have booted this new revision board with a SONY IDE, PLEXTOR IDE, and ASUS 40/80 pin CD Rom drive and there were NO PROBLEMS AT ALL, .....BUT..... The IDE Channel seems really slow, the SATA CD ROMS (ASUS) seem to run like a rocket on this board. If you are using them as office workstaions then this is the board for you, ample USB's, ample 1394 Firewire, good sound. I hope that there will be a Rev 206 OR a BIOS UPDATE to fix some of the bottle neck issues on the IDE Channel, which by todays standards is almost LEGACY as was Serail, Parallel, and the now almost gone FLOPPY.

Rating + 5 Solid and Works

Pros: Small very easy board to setup, powerful BIOS, good workstaion (office), or home office board. I use it for a home general use computer. If you need it to be a gamer you can add a PCI-E card in the slot, and the sound card is not bad at all. You really want super speed and power dont buy the Intel Classic Series (the DG35EC is Classic), move up to the Extreme Series. I really cant say anything bad about the INTEL brand, I had endless problems with other systems 10 years ago and switched to INTEL. Just remember A. Download the newest Drivers from INTEL. B. Flash the BIOS with the most current ROM for your system. C. Load the most current version of XP Pro or VISTA and update ALL WILL WORK WELL. I have this board (I have purchased 11 of them) running primarily on Windows XP SP-3.

Cons: Send Board back or exchange if you got an INTEL Identified AA board number of AA-xxxxxx-203. You cannot flash up the ID of the board just the bios. You really want the 205/206 series the problems are fixed on that run.

Other Thoughts: I know that a ton of you indicated that you cannot boot from an IDE 40/80 IDE cable CD/DVD ROM Drive, but here is the low down. If you have an INTEL Identified AA board number of AA-Exxxxx-205 All works perfectly. I have even downloaded all the WHQL specific drivers from intel.com for compatibility and there were no issues at all. Be warned though that certain cheap SATA CD/DVD Roms dont play well with this board, I have tested ASUS SATA and it works perfectly.

Pros: The on-board gig Ethernet works "out of the box" with VMware ESXi. (Shows up as an Intel 82566DC.) Has 4 DIMM slots so you can use 8GB of RAM without breaking the bank. Works great with the Q6600.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I'm running ESXi 3.5 Embedded (build 110271) from a 1GB Kingston DataTraveler II USB key. (The one they gave away at VMworld last year.) No local disk - I'm using a separate box running FreeNAS to serve up NFS and iSCSI. 8GB of PQI RAM (N82E16820141241) and the Intel Q6600 quad. Awesome lab box, even if none of it's on the HCL.

Rating + 2 Be careful

Pros: Lot of good features for a desktop board. Still has floppy and serial port support if you need them, but also supports quad core, digital video, etc.

Cons: I've been through two of these, and will be trying another one as soon as it comes from Intel. The biggest problem for me has been that the board will not install Windows from an IDE drive. This is a documented problem on the Intel Web site but the information is wrong. It was supposedly fixed with revision 203. Unfortunately, the real fix did not come until revision 205. Anything below that may not work. As a further insult, after buying their product, installing it, then uninstalling it because of their defect, Intel wouldn't even pay to have the thing shipped. That doesn't lead to very good customer satisfaction.

Other Thoughts: For those of you that use Linux. Xandros OCE 4.5 loads and runs fine with this board. The Marvell chipset is no longer an install issue.

Pros: Easy to setup up - great board for every day computing

Cons: We have the same issue as VVarwick's review - Purchased 5 of these boards (also revision E29266-203) and all of them have issues with the analog monitor connection. When connected, the monitor has a pulsating image. Tried different settings and refresh rates, updated drivers and BIOS all with no luck. Verify green light on mobo - check. Switch poer off at supply. Rewire to my windoze box - powers up. Waffles... I have RMA the mobo. Just on a whim I dragged a screwdriver over the pins around the power switch - board powers up!! It turns out that the copy I got requires the power switch to be connected to the positive terminal of the power switch input and the positive on the reset switch input. It works great now that it is wired incorrectly!!

Rating + 1 Do not purchase this board if you plan on using analog video out.

Pros: Everything except the analog D-sub video out on this board is great. (but read my cons)

Cons: I have 10 of these boards. All are revision E29266-203 (this is the AA number on the side of the box). All of them produce poor video via the analog D-sub out. Open windows have a "Squiggly" rhythmic pulsation on their edges. I am not referring to normal refresh flicker. But the pulsation changes when you change the refresh rate. It can actually be worse at higher refresh rate. This issue happens on both older CRT and new LCD monitors when using the analog D-sub out.

Other Thoughts: If you are not going to use the on-board analog out, this board is perfect. On-board DVI out does not produce the rhythmic distortion and the image is rock solid.

Cons: CPU fan power doesn't work. I have tried three different coolers and none work. I know these things happen on occasion, but I've built several computers over the years and have never ran into this issue before...real drag. The 1.8 or 1.9 voltage for RAM is also a bummer.

Rating + 5 Great entry level motherboard

Pros: Installed very quickly and easily. I had no problems with the fan that came with my intel processor, it snapped in nicely with no trouble. BIOS was very easy to understand. Onboard graphics card will run Vista Aero quite well. DVI out and dual screen support as well.

Cons: Rumors of IDE weirdness. I opted for all sata ports myself. Integrated video will not play any games newer than 2004. All the other standard cons, no raid, few pci slots, etc.

Other Thoughts: This is my first computer build and this motherboard has been great. Everything went together smoothly, the BIOS is great for a beginner. It is an Intel board so you can't overclock, but you should only be buying this board of you are new or don't need to. I did expect the graphics chipset to work a little better...I wasn't expecting it would play crysis, but it would crash while playing AVP2, and that was sad. I picked up XFX GeForce 8600GT and can play Lost planet at 30-40 FPS. If you don't play games though, this board runs Aero with no issues.

Rating + 5 Decent for the price.

Pros: This board was very easy to install and POSTed immediately after installation. It takes in and recognizes the latest 45nm Core 2 Duos without the need of any BIOS update. Windows Vista installation was quick and easy as well. Board seems to be well made and manages to take quite a bit of casual "handling abuse" during installation.

Cons: Apparently, the IDE controller is quite shoddy, but this shouldn't be a problem if you are using only SATA drives. No RAID support. BIOS is fairly average (but then again, this is another cheap Intel board). Doesn't overclock.

Other Thoughts: Intel makes decent motherboards and CPUs, but however makes terrible CPU heatsinks. Buy yourself a nice aftermarket heatsink. My E7200 stock heatsink didn't even seat itself properly on the motherboard due to the poorly made pins. I used my new computer for about 6 hours before realizing that I was actually slowly frying my CPU to death. Luckily, there wasn't too much damage. I'm going to have to tear out this board to install a new heatsink. Sigh.

I also have not tested out the X3500 integrated graphics, as I opted to install an EVGA NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT instead.

Overall, this was a good board for $100, even for budget gamers like myself.

Rating + 5 Nice board

Pros: Stock Intel C2D heatsink/fan snaps on without a ton of force. Decent on-board graphics, audio and GbE. Firewire. Hassle-free Fedora Linux installation. I moved 2 ATA-133 drives over from the old box and it booted right up. Had to tweak fstab and grub, but that was it. Components and connectors leave plenty of room to work for cabling.

Cons: BIOS setup screens are awful. Tricky XP install. Intel's GMA X3500 video driver for XP needs a lot of work. 1280x1024 millions of colors is rock solid on Linux, but on XP it's so wavy you'll think you're drunk, thanks to Intel's lousy GMA X3500 driver. But that's not really the board's fault. No SATA RAID on Intel's ICH8HB chipset.

Other Thoughts: Bought this as an open-box item and was a little worried. No IO Shield rectified by sending a few dollars to Intel. No software CD was inconvenient but Intel's download page for this board only has 4 or 5 things you need for Windows (XP or Vista). Fedora Linux "just worked", including SATA AHCI mode on the ICH8HB, which Intel does not support in their XP driver. It will do SATA AHCI mode on XP with a little prodding (without RAID, though). XP install from a SATA DVD drive to a SATA hard drive was a challenge, but it does work if you can handle slipstreaming Intel's INFs into an XP install CD (or F6 with a floppy).

I plan on using it for a Linux server, but I did install XP onto an extra partition just to see what all the fuss was about. It did take 2 days. I got an AA 203 model so maybe the kinks are almost worked out. Still needs another BIOS rev, though.

Whoever returned this board because they couldn't make it work... Thanks! You saved me a nice chunk of change!

Pros: No hiccups whatsoever with SATA drives and Vista Media Center. Well mannered drivers throughout makes your HTPC every bit as dependable as a name-brand turnkey HTPC. Dual PCIe X1 slots for dual tuners with microATX form factor.

Cons: No SPDIF output connector (but see below). Only 4 USB ports on internal headers, may not be enough for some HTPC cases.

Other Thoughts: Asus SPDIF OUT/COA+OPT fits in PCI slot bay, and can be connected to the motherboard header for SPDIF output. But you have to cut and trim the blank pin out of the 4-wide connector on the ASUS pigtail to fit the 3-wide SPDIF header on the motherboard. Takes about 5 minutes and of course read the intel product guide for which pins go where.

Pros: For an Integrated motherboard, I found this to be a high quality product. The X35 Integrated Video was fully capable of playing games like Microsoft Rise of Nations with no interruptions or slow downs. I only used the VGA monitor plug, so I did not test the digital monitor plug. The BIOS recognized my Hardware including a new Intel E7200 .45nm CPU as indicated on the Intel Website. I used SATA Drives for DVD & HD exclusively and they worked fine. The sound seems just fine but I was only using stereo speakers. This motherboard seemed to be able to handle Vista Home Premium just fine and was plenty fast with the Intel E7200 CPU.

Throw out the old junk and use new SATA Drives. I have heard reports of issues with IDE Hard Drives and IDE/PATA DVD Drives.

Keep in mind that the specifications state to use DDR2 RAM with a voltage rating of 1.8 volts. I stuck in 2 gigs of Crucial RAM and it runs great.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: The Antec NSK4480B Case was barely large enough for this motherboard. However, it is an excellent Case if you like Basic Black with good ventillation. I like the smaller case and the 3 speed Exhaust Fan.

Pros: Great Intel quality! Ive built/used many motherboards over the years and the Intel boards are excellent.

Cons: X3500 on-board is fine for regular use but not for serious games or 3D CADD graphics.

Pros: This motherboard is really good for plug and play.

Cons: But if you want to play around with linux or unix, it has a bit problem with the IDE controller.

Other Thoughts: works for the price:D

Pros: Bought it because it has all the features I want especially, including dual channel memory and integrated graphics. It worked until I set the memory speed to the module specification.

Cons: In the BIOS there s a setting for 533MHz DDR2 memory but it refused to POST. Tried CMOS clear (also w/battery detached for an hour) and defaulted to factory settings, still no POST.

Other Thoughts: Why would Intel let a BIOS have this setting if this motherboard doesn't support it? DMAed twice! If this is how Intel treats their low-end boards BIOSs' then I would go with the other brands. What good is it if a PC doesn't even boot!

Pros: Seems like a good board on which to base a mainstream system.

Cons: IDE/PATA port is no good - I need this to work for my back up hard hard drive and DVD burner.

Other Thoughts: IDE/PATA devices "disappear" from system after a few hours. For me this is a show stopper. I'm guessing that Intel is going to swap this out for me since I am past the 30 day newegg return policy and Intel asked for my shipping address.

Rating + 4 Good board for SATA devices

Pros: Easy board to install. Very good sound. I'm happy with this board overall. Everything seems to work great without having to update the BIOS. If you have SATA hard drives and optical drives, everything should go smoothly.

Cons: According to Intel, the AA version I got is not compatable with IDE devices - I was unable to install Windows because of incessant read/write errors. Only 2 chassis fan connectors. PCI-e slot is too close to the first memory slot.

Other Thoughts: Regarding the IDE device issue, I could have RMA'd it back to Intel, but I chose to go with an SATA dvd burner instead (~$20). Regarding the PCI-e slot and first memory slot, I would have to remove my video card in order to install or remove the 1st memory module. My video card only stretches the length of the actual slot, so it isn't overly large. Would like to see post messages on boot up instead of the splash screen and pressing "ESC" doesn't show them.

System specs: Q9450 cpu, 8GB Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/4G RAM, xp64 Pro sp2, GeForce 7600 GT video, Seagate SATA hard drive, ASUS SATA dvd burner.

Rating + 4 Not bad

Pros: DVI is really nice. X3500 seems powerful. Doen't get hot. 8gb ram upgradable.

Cons: The bios sucks. I mean really sucks. The boot screen stays on for like 30sec then windows boots. I tried everything to make it faster but nothing works. Picky about ram. Major problems with the PATA port. Its useless. Just doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: Could use some more sata ports since the pata port is broke.

Rating + 3 Almost good

Pros: Booted with no issues, all components .. E6550, 2gb (2x1gb) gskill, optiarc pata drive (will revisit this in the cons), usr modem, 500gb hitachi sata, windows xp pro.

Cons: There was an issue with the earlier versions of this mb AA E29266-202 and lower with an incompatibility when using pata drives. I have a 203 which is supposed to be a fixed version. (documented on Intel's website).

Every pata optical drive that I have now tried with this mb will ONLY operate in PIO mode (per xp), resulting in slow burning, horrible video playback (jerky), horrible audio playback (stutters, pops, distortions).

Other Thoughts: Ordering an SATA optical and crossing my fingers that the problem is resolved that way.

Rating + 5 Good board.

Pros: This motherboard is great for beginners. With its quite literally -huge- instruction guide, almost the size of a poster, it'll be hard to mess anything up. Worked well. Built the computer from scratch, installed XP pro without problems, and now it's the center of a mid-ranged rig.

Cons: Only supports 1.8V ram. This wasn't a problem since I got 2 sticks of Gskill G.SKILL SDRAM DDR2 800 that operates from 1.8-2.0V.

Pros: on board video, 8GB worth of DDR2 800 ram, supports the 45nm quad core. Installed this board for my first build with no problems at all. Downloaded all the bios updates from intel. Never had a problem.

Cons: Can't find a way to overclock.....not that i need it, but its nice to go overbard sometimes =]

Other Thoughts: DG35EC mobo, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz, G.SKILL 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800, ASUS Arctic Square 92mm Vapo Bearing CPU Cooler , MSI NX8800GT 512M OC GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3, Thermaltake TMG SL1 A2414 80mm Blue LED Dual PCI Slot Fan, Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

Rating + 2 Buyer Beware

Pros: This is an awesome board, if you can get it to work.

Cons: Unable to load software due to a known computability issue between the board and DVD/CD drives. Kept getting write errors between DVD and HDD. Intel's fix is to RMA the board, I opted for a refund and bought a Gigabit board.

Other Thoughts: Spent two days fighting with this thing before finally found note on Intel's website. Intel should be ashamed of themselves for not pulling this board off the market.

Pros: HD video ready, 1333 FSB, 800MHz RAM, DVI output, onboard Firewire port and lots of USB ports

Cons: Needs 1.8v RAM which currently cost almost double the 2.1 or 2.2v RAM.

Other Thoughts: There is no way to change the RAM voltage on this motherboard. Be sure you have 1.8v RAM.

Pros: Works out of the box with Kubuntu Hardy Heron Linux. Click Install, answer the questions, and box is up and running. Even set up my 1920x1200 monitor resolution correctly. 20 minutes from nothing to fully functioning computer

Cons: Requrires a Bios upgrade before it recognizes 8G of RAM. It runs slow as a slug without the update.

Other Thoughts: The splash screen does not work. Xmms is no longer in Ubuntu.

Rating + 5 Good motherboard

Pros: This is a well-thought-out motherboard. I like that it has an X16 PCI-e slot, as well as four DDR2 memory slots. The onboard video is also pretty good. A lot better than my laptop's discrete GeForce 7200 was. It's fast. The 1333MHz FSB is nice. It lets me use the new 45nm Core 2 Quad!

Cons: This is a hot running motherboard, at least it is in my build. The chipset runs at like 90-94C right now which to me seems very hot, but it is a small case (Silverstone SG01 Evolution). The I/O panel feels cheap. I wish they included more SATA cables.

Other Thoughts: The heatsink on the northbridge is very large, so keep that in mind, it's nothing to affect the fit of it, but it did make it hard to put the motherboard in the case. Comes with a free HD video documentary on ocean life which was sorta cool. Good way to kill an hour or so lol.

Rating + 5 Awsome board for Linux!

Pros: This board is awesome! Everything works out of the box with Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy). The x3500 works great over DVI with my 1920x1200 monitor. Of course does 1080p video like a dream. Does all the 3D effect nice and fast also!

Cons: none really...works as advertised.

Other Thoughts: Got this with a 3GHZ core 2 for running Ubuntu Linux and watching HD video. It's been perfect! The intel bios is nice and has all sort of options to tweek around with. Make sure to set your hard drive to use AHCI mode (they have it in Legacy mode by default for XP users). With integrated video with this performance, unless you want to place hardcore 3D games..you really don't need anything else.

Rating + 5 RE: Just wandering...

Pros: see below

Cons: see below

Other Thoughts: READ THE SPECS NEXT TIME. They CLEARLY show "Memory Standard DDR2 800". If you actually take the 4 seconds to click the "Item Specs" tab and scroll down, you'd have seen this yourself and wouldn't have to be asking such a silly question. And in case you can't put 2 and 2 together, YES this board will support your 533MHz DDR2 RAM. You really should do some Google searches and educate yourself on stuff like this.

Give me the negative feedback all you want, but obviously this guy doesn't know where to go to learn about hardware, so this is the only way to respond to him right now.

Rating + 4 Great board for quiet system!

Pros: DVI output for onboard video is rare to see so a definite plus. Paired with a Core 2 Due E8400, 2GB ram, WD 640GB hdd, and Antec case = dead silent system that is actually amazingly fast with Vista. No real gaming is ever planned on this system so the onboard X3500 video of the G35 chipset is more than enough to run Aero Glass. Even used the beta DX10 drivers and no issues to report as of yet.

Cons: Not sure if it's a BIOS bug (since this is board is brand new to the market) or what but the PATA IDE channel suffers from some hiccups. Optical drive just disappears from Windows after random amount of time and system sometimes has a STOP 0x000007B error after a cold POST. Removing IDE cable from system entirely eliminates this. Tried other cables and drives, so who knows that the deal is atm. If you don't bother with PATA, you'll have no issues.

Other Thoughts: Went with this board instead of the Asus P5E-VM HDMI because the onboard sound on that particular board suffers from a lot of noise. No such issues on this DG35EC. :) Granted, this Intel board only uses the "recommended" ICH8 for it's G35 chipset instead of the ICH9 on the Asus.
