Rating + 5 Great board But why the extreme price jump?

Pros: Great board! Built it for my parents because I wanted something idiot and break proof. Stable enough to stand up to 2 computer illiterate 50-somethings and the 4 kids banging away at it.

Cons: Next to no legacy support- make sure you have USB everything. This used to be $250- wth?!

Other Thoughts: This board was good for the money- when it was $250- a year ago. It worked so well, I wanted another, and now it's anywhere between $325-over $400! WTh?!!! I will say though, that newegg is still the best price I've found so far, unless someone would like to prove me wrong please?

Pros: Stable.
Powerfull enough with a decent graphics card to play most any games.
Easy to find drivers et al from the Intel website and is
much faster than the Asus website.

Cons: Cumbersome to oc, but it can.
Would not choose for overclocking. There are boards out there that are made for this in mind.

Other Thoughts: 1 year later and the board has performed well and is quite stable. I have had no issues with bios updates or other software & hardware related annoyances.
I would recommend this board. Do your hardware research vs specific needs carefully when choosing a mainboard.

Rating + 4 Fine board

Pros: DD3, Stability

Cons: Not really a con but no on board Video. Can't use 8 gigs of ram at 1600.

Other Thoughts: This one was my first intel motherboard rig and i can't say i'm displeased. Would have been great to be able to use 8 gigs at 1600. But photoshop and video editing are fine at 4 gig with a great video card. Not an overclocker myself so can't comment on that.

Rating + 4 Stable, fast

Pros: Good stable board. I'm only using 2 GB of 1333 mHz of RAM and it has the speed I need. Guess the DDR3 makes the dif. Using a 3 gHz Core 2 Duo. Not in use for gaming, so I've not really stressed it, but overall a good board.

Cons: There isn't any on-board graphics or legacy PS-2 ports, but that's not really a con, since who needs those things these days. The real problem for me has been the on-board sound, which either does not work at all or when I got it working worked only very weakly.

Other Thoughts: Using one Sapphire 4850 v-card with 2 GB of OCZ DDR3 RAM.
Am upgrading the CPU to Core 2 Quad 9400, and don't expect any problems.
Have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme sound card that does the job.
Vista Business Aero rating of 5.9 in all areas except the CPU calculations, which should change when I upgrade.

Rating + 4 Very Nice Board

Pros: Intel quality. An Intel board setup for overclocking?!? I never thought that I would see the day. Their beta desktop utility is nice, but you have to go back to an August 2008 BIOS to use it. I installed the 65 watt 2.83 GHz Intel quad-core CPU in mine. I've been running it at 3.2 GHz with no issues, and it's very stable. I have had no heat problems, and I am using the Intel "stock" heat sink.

Cons: The cons are minor. You can only use 4 GB of RAM at 1600 MHz. However, who can afford a CPU that supports 1600 MHz RAM? I'm running 8 GB at 1333 MHz, and it's lightening fast. My bigger "issue" is that the two PCI Express 2.0 slots are too close together.

Other Thoughts: Replaced a 5.5 year old computer with an all new new system that has this board. I am very happy with it. My old mobo was an Intel D865PERL board, which I was also very happy with. Intel has traditionally lagged in "features" on their motherboards, but their boards are very reliable.

FWIW, I agree with the earlier poster about the lack of reasons to buy 8 GB of RAM or to use a 64-bit OS. However, I am planning on using this computer for a long time, and RAM is currently very cheap, so I am using Vista Ultimate 64-bit and hoping for software that will take advantage of it somewhere down the line.

Rating + 4 not bad

Pros: it does overclock, dual channel RAM, it looks like the heatsinks for nb/sb should be easy to replace. plenty of room on board for a 92mm h.s.f.
2 and a half pci-express 16 expansion slots for video output or what-have-you
runs a lot of different chip types (all intel, player)
ddr3 hasn't sucked yet. module prices are coming down

Cons: some kind of limitation on running 1600MHz RAM in all 4 channels (not sure if this still applies it was to run underclocked)
not too many expansion slots other than pci-e x16 (i.e. no pci-e x1, 2 pci slots)
this board needs more power management options in BIOS

Other Thoughts: overclocking isn't that hard on this board, but mebbe those without much background in it would be better fitted to learn on other hardware. like i said, more power management options are needed, like line load balancing and other stuff, and there doesent look like an easy way to set ram ratio 1:1, but i dont even know if other boards do that (this stuff is a first for me, just about) the other reviewer commenting about pc3-10600 instead of 10666 is unheard of to me, but there might be something to that.

Rating + 3 Could Be Better

Pros: It's Intel. Simple Bios. Plenty of USB and SATA ports.

Cons: This board is very RAM picky. Those that are having random blue screen/restart issues probably have incompatible RAM. Check Intel's site for compatible RAM. I already had some OCZ Reaper memory i wanted to use but it doesn't work with this board. My OCZ RAM is PC3 10666 but it appears this board likes 10600 according to Intel's site. This kind of puts a limit on your choices.

The front panel connectors are too far away. My cable barely makes it. Very poor design on Intel's part.

SATA connectors are not in a good spot either. Large video cards like the GTX200 series will cover up the first two ports. I think the design is more for ATI cards but that's still bad when you consider how many have NVidia cards.

Other Thoughts: A few changes and this board can be really nice. Intel MB's are quality products but this one disappointed me with the Cons i listed.

Rating + 5 Great Intel Product

Pros: I agree with others - durability and Intel quality. I've been working and playing with computers for almost 20 years and some of the reviews about this board had me thinking "What happened to Intel?" I have two of these boards and when I say I build - I build (from the ground up). It took me a while to finsh the case just to put the board in. If you know what your doing this board should be fine.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The Board is tight if your trying to put one of those oversized gaming cards, such as; EVGA Ge GTX 260 Core 216. Think about what your doing when removing one of those oversized video card. Also, I like some of the cooling fans for CPU's by Cooler Master -- excellant brackets, you do not have to attach to motherboard, but motherboard panel (great).

Pros: Durability, intel quality, and new features.

Cons: Non.

Other Thoughts: Had this board for 6 months, and no problems despite the box looked like it was thrown across the room a few times before it arrived. Still worked great and looks cool too. Just wish it supported Core i7 processors.

Rating + 5 Everything status quo.

Pros: Supreme upgradeability. I bought an open box version of this board for an extreme discount. I haven't been disappointed. At all.

Cons: The only minor annoyance for a flagship mobo like this is that they don't have a temp/control utility that works with the current BIOS. Furthermore, it does work with a previous version--however the utility is STILL BETA. With that being said, if you're good with your build you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Other Thoughts: It replaced an Intel D865PERL. Always good experiences with Intel made motherboards.

Rating + 5 Great board with a bad reputation

Pros: Crossfire ready, X48 chipset, 6 sata ports, 2 PCIe 2.0 X 16, 3 fan headers on board (besides the two for the CPU and northbridge). Great package as well, many cables, extras, odds and ends are included. Flawless installation--everything went as smoothly as silk and was one of the easiest builds I've ever done.

Cons: Could use a bit more space between the PCIe 2.0 slots, no hyper-threading support. The Desktop Control Center, which by all appearances should be an awesome tool, is a beta offering and does not work with the latest bios update, which is a drag.....

Other Thoughts: I feel badly for everyone who may have gotten a bum board--I don't doubt that there have been some lemons (although with computer components it's to be expected); I only wish their experiences were as trouble-free as mine has been. The Intel site has done a pretty good job with tech support, although sometimes you have to look and beat the bushes a bit to find the info you need. All things considered, I think it's a great board.

Pros: Great board, good spacing and quick, easy build. BIOS a bit tricky, but not difficult. I have used it with a quad proc for about 6 months, it is rock solid and very fast, 5.9 vista rating on all measurements. I like intel boards.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: When I read about all the DOA's it apears that many people don't know what they are doing. I order many boards, never have had a DOA. Use Static Straps and don't overestimate your "Tech Knowledge"
I would recommend it to anyone.

Rating + 1 NEVER EVER AGAIN NOHOW

Pros: Beautifully laid out for accessibility.

Cons: DOA. TWICE!

[ Not a NewEgg error, so I tried to fix it directly w/Intel ]

Miserable experience with arrogant (Intel) help via Email, online chat, and telephone. Tripping over their own stupidity in not including a 34-pin floppy socket on this board: a FDD is REQUIRED for RAID installation.

Many folks are having problems with older external FDDs not recognized by WinXP Install. Intel wrongly assumes that ALL install problems (RAID) are due to wrong FDDs (mine's just dandy) and wasted 5 days of my time chasing FDD ghosts before finally concluding that the board is faulty.

Intel sent "working board" replacement for extra $25, which turned out to be a refurb that could recognize neither memory nor hard drives. GRRRRRR.

Now returning both boards and starting over.

This was my first try with an Intel board(s.) NEVER AGAIN. Intel has apparently stepped outside its area of competence and stumbled. Their CPUs, etc., are world-class; all other permanently off-radar

Other Thoughts: NewEgg is phenomenally efficient, helpful, friendly, and supportive.

Pros: Good speeds. Very nice Mobo with enough peripheral USB and external SATA connectors. Works great with 4GB 1333MHz of RAM.

Cons: Not easily overclockable like it is advertised. Using this board with 8GB 1333MHz of RAM is tough. Random reboots and screen freezing occurs with 8GB 1333MHz RAM. I'm still working on these issues while writing this.

Other Thoughts: Overall great board for the money. Would recommend.

Rating + 5 What's the problem?

Pros: Intel X48 Chipset, 1600 FSB, 6 Sata 2 Drives.

Cons: True, it won't support more than 4 GB of DDR3 1600 MHz memory, but it will support 8 GB of DDR 1333 Mhz. However, how many people find it economically feasible to buy 8 GBs of DDR 1600 MHz memory anyway? 8 GB of 1333 is perfectly fine.

Other Thoughts: I've seen from other reviews that their motherboard powers on, off, and back on before it actually boots up. Well, mind did this as well in the beginning before I found out the hard way that I had my HD Audio connector plugged into the wrong spot on the motherboard. After this plugged into the correct slot I never saw the power on, off, and back on behavior. Other than that, (which was self induced) I've had no problems at all with this board. As for overclocking, why? It performs just fine out of the box. As for random reboots, I haven't seen any. Also, I haven't had any problems with the BIOS, but have kept my system up to date. Note: Read the BIOS upate release notes before you apply an update. Your board might not be experiencing the problems addressed/fixed in the update.

Rating + 5 Walk theBoneTrail with 80-20 Rule!

Pros: After purchasing this motherboard and building a combination Media Center and Gaming PC I have re-read many of the reviews outlined here on the 'Egg and once again I find much that I read is MIS-information dashed off quickly after some poor experience and conforms to the 80-20 rule of human behavior (or any natural event for that matter). To paraphrase the rule: 20 per cent of the people make 80 per cent of the mistakes attributable to this outstanding board. Look at the reviews in total number and you will see that nearly 80% give 4 or 5 stars with the remainder "voting" 1, 2, or 3 stars and then proceeding to tell us readers more about themselves (experience level - attention span -etc.) than ever can be gleaned about the product. I realize that all that is written here is merely opinion, however there are statements that can be considered "INFORMED" opinion, rather than just hyperbole! To wit, I will outline below a rebuttal to many "stated" negatives solely based on experience!

Cons: I am listing the following with no particular order of importance as all were taken equally into consideration before penning my reply:
1) Issues with RAM seem to dominate this board as well
as ALL other X48 and X38 boards although I had no issues here myself. I actually have the X38 version of the board that I bought as an open box purchase, meaning that I inherited someone else's perceived
problem, of which NONE have arisen. A few rules that
have served me well are:
a) Only use 2 or 4 GB's of ram ~ 8 GB's are not only
unnecesary but unproductive as well. The ram
capacity that displays in Windows is ADDREESS
capacity, and not actual physical capacity and you slow down processing with too many addresses to read.
2) Always use ram modules in the largest size
capacity available ~ 2x2 GB not 4x1 GB (speed issue)
3) It is best to place only ONE (1) ram module in the board upon initial boot up.
4) You must overclock ALL ram above 800MHz in the bios as NO industry standard!

Other Thoughts: 5)NEVER use a 64bit operating system as few programmer's presently write for this market and you gain no disernable speed or functionality.
6)BSOD's are ALWAYS caused by incompatabilities in software (hardware drivers etc.) and not by the OP/SYS..unless you overclock (start with usb and sound drivers as they are most problematic!)
7)Random reboots and screen freezes are usually related to memory or usb issues (try re-seating the memory module or uninstall and reinstall usb drivers
8)This board has no problem with ram clearance with the VGA card~ simply place the end closest to the VGA in first and then press both ends firmly
9) Intel website is great and has 2 pdf's listing BIOS options.
10) Sata connectors are in a GREAT position~ use 90 degree cables
11) Very overclockable with "INTUITIVE" listings in the bios~read pdf's 1st. Lastly, this board passed a 2 week burn-in and with a Q9300 (2.89GHz), 1333@1541 ram scored 15-880 pts in 3DM06 which ranks as #1 Intel X38 on HWBOT/com.

Rating + 5 Great Board...Not Great BIOS

Pros: LGA 775 socket, x48 chipset, 1600 FSB, DDR3 Memory, 2 (two) PCI Express 2.0 x16, ports, 6 internal and 2 external sata connections, 6 USB 2.0 slots. Supports RAID 0, 1, and 5. Over-clocks like a BEAST! With out overclocking it is still an awesome board. And the price is right. Overall, I have been extremely happy with this Mother Board. I overclocked everything with stock cooling for about 3 days before returning everything to stock with no problems. I will overclock again when I switch to liquid cooling. Also, since this is LGA 775, I will upgrade to a Core 2 Extreme processor when the price comes down (I guess this is the Server Administrator in me, but the i7 is too new for me to switch over now). But I can run Crysis pretty well on High Settings using my setup below at stock settings.

Cons: Requires lots of power (1x 24-pin connnector, 1x 6-pin connector, and 1x 4-pin connector)! A long video card covers the RAM tabs (like the ATI 4870). Only 2 dimms are 1600 MHz. So only a max of 4 GB (2x 2GB) can be PC12800. If you want to have more RAM you will have to settle for 1333 or 1066 MHz. Corsair XMS RAM needs to be "tweaked" in order for it to run at full speed (it defaults to a lower setting). If you make any major changes to the board (adding/removing RAM, Changing video cards, etc) the system will power on, power off, and then power on again. If you have a setting the BIOS doesn't like, it will power cycle several times before allowing you to boot into a "safe-mode" BIOS setup. No NEW Desktop Control Center support for BIOS version 1894.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use any of the features from the animated video from the Intel website (i.e. Desktop Control Center, Storage Matrix) you must have BIOS 1814. Anything older is unstable...Anything newer will not work with DCC. Always backup your BIOS version before you update. Before you buy anything, you should always visit the manufacturer's website. Also, check out the various forums.

My setup:
Mobo: DX48BT2
Proc: Intel E8500
RAM: Corsair XMS3 1600 (PC 12800)
Video: ATI RADEON 4870 PCI Express 2.0 x16 512 MB
HDD: 2x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB in RAID 0 (I will add 3 1TB drives in a RAID 5 sometime in January)
OS: Vista 64

With this setup, my Vista 64-bit rating is 5.7/6.0. The processor is the only thing keeping it from a 5.9 (which is the highest I have seen even on extreme gaming machines/super high end PCs).

Rating + 4 Great MB Support a little sketchy

Pros: Good hardware nice layout very stable.

Cons: Be careful of the following.
1. Bios SATA settings Secondary controller needs to be IDE unless your CD is SATA.
2. Very difficult to install from an "upgrade", XP needed a floppy would not see drivers on CD and no FLASH drive support. Will need a USB floppy because there is no support on board for floppy.
3. Tried to upgrade to new BIOS using .exe method crashed the SATA raid array. had to reinstall the whole system.
4. Updated HD audio driver has issues do some research.
5. There is no upgrade from XP pro 64 to Vista Ultimate 64 clean install only.
This might seem like a lot but if I would have done a little research I could have precluded these problems.
That is why I'm putting it here. Down load the Manual check the web, this is a great board it is just the peripherals that get in the way. I do have the CPU over clocked to 3 Gig with no issues.

Pros: DDR3 and it's from Intel.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: The only issue I had was when I was trying to install Windows XP off my original XP CD, the install would BLUE SCREEN when trying to setup the drivers. After a couple emails to Intel Technical Support they said that I needed to have a XP install CD with at least Service Pack 2 already on it. So I installed from a CD with SP3 and every installed just fine.

Pros: Supports DDR3 RAM. Intel has great customer support.

Cons: From the reading I have done, and talking to OCZ, this board seems to be rather finicky. People have had a lot of troubles getting their RAM to work with this board.

I am getting BSOD's on a frequent basis (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED AREA). I don't know if that is a result of the board, RAM (I did a memtest, came out fine), or Vista 64.

Rating + 1 What a piece...

Pros: Awesome when it works...

Cons: First one I got was DOA. Very disappointing. Got the second one, and it worked for almost a month before the video went. I tried reseating the video card thinking that was the problem, but when I turned it on there was a loud pop and a flaming piece of chip flew out from under the PCI-e slot. Now I'm dealing with Intel in getting a new one.

Other Thoughts: The first one I returned through Newegg and they were very fast in getting a new one. Intel's website is very confusing because things generally aren't what they say they are, but after doing the live chat thing they agreed to send me a new mobo although having your motherboard shooting shrapnel at you is apparently not a defect (guess it's a "feature") so it's not covered under warranty. So I guess I do have to give props to both Newegg's and Intel's customer service. Just never buying an Intel board again. Hopefully there's more boards that support DDR3 memory by next month, because the way things are going I'll be needing a new mobo soon.

Pros: it's intel....!

Cons: The 1st board was doa. Intel was great about comping everything, and the RMA. Got new board, and received a conflict w/ the marvel adapter which is the secondary SATA channel, which was set to IDE for my optical drives. I had to disable that , So that I could install my 9800 gx2. Intel had no solution.

Other Thoughts: was my 1st time using Intel parts. I will not use their boards again. seems rushed to market. just my opinion.

Pros: Arrived fast, worked perfectly first time. Everything fits where it should and is easy to get in. No wrestling with parts

Cons: As other people have said, you have to take the video card out before installing RAM if you have a long video card, but it's not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: Tiny bit broke off while I was installing the board, but worked fine anyway!

Rating + 5 Another great board

Pros: The specs on this dude are the pros.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I've owned nothing but Intel boards since I started building systems in 2001 and have only had 1 incident where the motherboard failed. A cheap power supply caused it to fry (learned my lesson with cheap PSUs) and Intel still replaced my board. They even next-day-aired it to me. My board could die tomorrow, but I'm not worried.

I hooked all of my components up to this board (all new) and it fired right up without any problems at all. Intel boards may not be an extreme gamer's dream come true, but the ones that I've installed for myself and others have been nothing but stable. And that's what I look for in a motherboard.

Pros: This motherboard works great. Put this into a workstation build at work. Plenty of room, plenty of USB ports, connections on the motherboard are spaced nicely. Memory slots are spaced well enough that you can get RAM with a heatsink in without space issue's. Plenty of room around CPU socket to get a nice sized heatsink. Was able to install windows without updating the BIOS with my Q9650 though windows did not recognize the CPU till after I updated it. No problems there either way though.

Cons: Will not recognize my OCZ3RPR13334GK PC10666 8gb(4 x 2gb) at 1333mhz, only 1066. I know that I have to change the RAM settings in the BIOS to match my memory but after doing so, the system will not load windows. Leaving it at automatic settings runs the RAM at 1066 but windows will run fine. I have read that this could be caused by a limitation in the x48 chipset that slows the RAM down when using all 4 memory slots. I'm not sure though and am working with OCZ tech support to try and figure out the problem.

Other Thoughts: Q9650 3ghz Core 2 Quad
Intel DX48BT2
8gb(4 x 2gb) OCZ HPC PC3 10666
FX3700 Quadro
Zalman 9700s
Corsair 750watt PSU
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit SP1

First motherboard arrived with bent pins on the CPU socket. Quick RMA process with Newegg had my new motherboard back in a week and it worked great.

Rating + 1 BEWARE: Not Truly 8GB

Pros: None

Cons: Specifications show that it will support up to 8GB. However, the note in the box says otherwise. This makes the motherboard useless to me since I purchased 4x2GB 1600 DDR3. If I wanted to stay with 4GB I'd stay with 32-bit. There should be a clear warning on the specifications page so others avoid this problem.
From the Intel site:
For 1600 MHz memory, only two DIMMs are supported for a maximum of 4 GB utilizing 1 Gb memory technology. DIMMs should be configured as a matched pair equal in speed and size in DIMM 0 and DIMM 1 of channel B.

Rating + 4 So Far, So Good

Pros: Easy Installation, no problems with compatibility, quick shipping. Good experience for my first build.

Cons: The BIOS is not overly intuitive, and the Reboot issue that others have reported occurs. It doesn't concern me much as it is only when I change hardware or remove all power, but it did concern my wife since I forgot to tellher to expect it.

Other Thoughts: Overall Very Good Board, I would have had problems if I had a 4x1GB setup of ram, as my Ultra ChillTec partially covers one DIMM socket, other than that, things seem to be mostly well placed.

Pros: Cheap extreme series with Intel overclock support. YAY.

Cons: Might need memory adj if running DDR3 1600 OCZ. Read below.

Other Thoughts: I HAD to adj my OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory to 9-9-9-24 timing at 1.7v or the computer would just randomly reboot all the time. You can try your luck with this combo but if you run into probs with random reboots try the adj above for stability.

Pros: The peripherals work, no problems with CPU at default settings. BIOS flashing worked.

Cons: Even after updating to the latest BIOS the board cannot run 1600 MHz OCZ Reaper memory at anything above 1066 MHz even in the configuration specified by Intel (DIMM0 and DIMM1 of channel B). Q6600 that I have POSTed at 3.6 GHz and operated solidly at 3.25 GHz will not even POST at 2.9 GHz (and even lower clocks). Does not come with a manual and Intel's site offers almost no insite into the BIOS options. Since purchasing the board I have only found one favorable review of the board, every other review site recommends avoiding it like the plague. I recommend avoiding it as well.

Rating + 5 Breath of fresh air!

Pros: So far, so stable. This new mobo works great. I really only use my PC for gaming and generally wasting time, which it is thus far is perfect for. I also don't overclock, so it's perfect for my needs

Cons: BIOS is a bit strange, but nothing that can't be figured out with research and bit of time.
Good luck getting the memory at 1600. I tried, gave up, and went back to 1333, which is what one of my RAM kits runs at anyway. Performance is fine.
If you overclock or benchmark, look elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: I bought this motherboard after giving up on NVIDIA's 790i ultra piece of junk. Thus far, this board is everything that I've been looking for: fast stability (knock on wood). Running a 45nm Wolfdale, 4gigs of Corsair 1333 DDR3 RAM, and a 280GTX, this board is all I need for my gaming needs.

Pros: The specs for the board are what I was looking for, however with the software that was sent with the board, I was unable to get it to clock. There were ampel ports on the board although I did miss the paralel port that was needed for my printer. The lack of a printer port was not a surprise.

Cons: Software! Software! Software! I have spent several days looking for software that would work with Vista and update the bios. Either it would not download properly or it would not open on the computer. I don't know why a company that is able to make such fine chips would overlook sending a software disk that would work, in the shipment. The mounting studs that hold the cpu fan in place would flex the board when the fan was being mount to the point that they would not catch. I am using a 9550 processor. The processor will overheat, and shuts the computer down. When I shut down the computer about half the time the e-sata data drive will not shut down, and also when the computer starts that same data drive will load about half the time. I have given the project one more day before I will return the mother board.

Other Thoughts: It would be helpful to be able to contact Intel and get a person. I am certain this problem could have been solved in a few minutes.

Pros: I use this board for a developer workstation at work. It is rock solid with no problems. I have the following setup:

Q9550
8GB ram
Windows Server 2008 x64
Seagate ES 4 drive raid 10
Seagate ES 2 drive raid 0
8900GT
PPC 610 psu
Thermalright Ultima90
LianLi extended case
Apple 30" Cinema

Great machine, very fast, rock solid, no problems ever. Never gets turned off.
It's the most stable machine I have used at work over the past few years. I would highly recommend this board to any developer needing a solid workstation where there is no interest in oc'ing.

Rating + 3 Very Tricky Board

Pros: *Finally works after 3rd RMA to Intel. The 4th RMA has been stable and works great for about 3 weeks now, let's hope it is my last RMA.
*Cheap Board $249 and $50 off instant with purchase of the Intel Q9550 CPU - Good Deal
*X48 Crossfire Works great - I have 2 Asus 3870X2 cards in Crossfire configuration, runs great.
*Finally stable and runs all new games at max res

Cons: *Frustration - After my build, the motherboard failed to boot, 3 of the 4 memory slots were bad.
*RMA 3 times due to several different issues, memory slot failure, CMOS update failure, and heating issues.

Other Thoughts: If I had to do it over again I would have spent an extra $70 dollars for the Asus Rampage DDR3 X48 Board, but it was tough passing on the cheap price and combo deal.
System Build - Antech Twelve-Hundered, Antec 1200 watt Power, Intel X48 DDR3, 8 gigs OCZ Fatality DDR3 1333, Vista 64bit, Dual 300gig Velociraptors, Dual Asus 3870X2's in Crossfire, 30 inch Gateway HD30000 Monitor.

Pros: I had the X38 prior to this board. I damaged the board mouting it and went and bought and open box X48 here on newegg. Great board. Seems to be more stable than the original X38 even though it is pretty much the same chip set.

Cons: none as of yet.

Rating + 5 Great Board 2nd to None

Pros: The performance is exceptional. I am using a nm 45 CPU and am convinced INTEL makes the best of combination MOBO-CPU. The ethernet is fast ping rates 67 or less. Mostly less than 31 ping. Using 1333 ram so there is a definite improvement from 800. It boots up without any hiccups and easy to configure. I love that they made a MOBO diagram skematic that is a decal for your case panel. Matched up with 260GTX, its a beast and still using 32 bit Vista. Can't wait to use 64 bit and thats coming soon:)

Cons: I do not like that it is only allowed 4Gb of 1600 ram. Using 1333 makes that a non issue for me because you can use 8 Gb but at least you know if you plan on using 1600 ram.

Other Thoughts: My gaming has improved 40% using this MOBO and I think alot of that has to do with others using older systems. I was pleased with the interlink between the E8400 CPU and this board. I use Asus also, but for now this board is the finest I have ever used.

Rating + 2 No 64-bit Dolby Support

Pros: Honestly, I can't think of a single feature of this board that is superior to the competition. For the money, you're better off buying a board from a different brand with more features and a better BIOS than what the Bone Trail offers.

Cons: No Dolby control panel for 64-bit operating systems. you read that right. the onboard audio is actually very good if you have a 32-bit OS. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is moving to 64-bit computing and Intel's list of things it doesn't support continues to grow.

Want to upscale stereo music to fill your 5.1 speakers? Tough. Want true Dolby sound on your 5.1 movies? Tough. The frustrating part is that the hardware supports these features and Intel is just too fat and comfortable to write a 64-bit version of their program.

Other Thoughts: Intel has been pushing their 64-bit processors for years. It's ironic that their software 64-bit support is so bad.

Those of you expecting a repeat of the Bad Axe II are going to be disappointed. the Bone Trail does not measure up to past Intel success stories.

Rating + 5 Is it worth it?.....

Pros: Well, What i was mad at was the yellow paper which came with it that stated "only 4G Mem @ 1600". Which sucked for i picked up 4G of OCZ intel extreme mem. I was looking to go into 8G but looks like i can't.

Other than that my XFX 8800 Ultra blocks 2 Sata ports yet intel gave me some 90 degree connectors to solve that.

If your looking for a stable Intel "gaming" board then click buy.

Cons: wished it had a small fan for NB or SB. It came with a bracket, i would of paid an extra $5-10 for an INTEL fan.

Other Thoughts: My setup: QX9650,X48 board,XFX Ultra 8800 GPU,Ultra 1000w Psu,Antec 900 case, OCZ intel DDR3 12800 Mem (4g), + alot of fans! Vista Ultimate32bit for now.

Pros: 1600 FSB, Great customer service from Intel. This is my first build. This MOBO is plug and play. Just pay attention and take your time and read everything before you instal! Mushkin 1600 mem will run at 1333 with this board, read other thought below.

Cons: IF YOU ARE USING 1600 DDR3 USE THE BLACK SLOTS!! If you place them in the blue slots you will have problems! From my understanding this will not support 8gb of 1600 mem only 4gb. Cr@ppy manual, needs a better one. The manual does not walk you through the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: So far so good runs stable, I havent OC yet but will soon. Read before you install anything. Dont update the BIOS unless you have problems per iIntels web site im to lazy to cut and past the exact site. If you have a CPU w/ a 1333 bus speed and you purchased 1600 mem, the BIOS WILL clock the 1600 mem down to 1333 to match the CPU. You will need to OC in order to achieve the 1600 FSB.

Pros: I spent several weeks researching boards before I decided make this purchase. Perhaps the most important two reasons that influenced me were Intel's reputation for reliability and customer service. I wasn't disappointed. I installed the board with components without any problems and it booted successfully the first time. Flashing the bios was easy from the Intel website...even finding the bios on the website was a simple chore...which is not always the case with other board manufacturers. A great motherboard and well worth the investment.

Cons: Install the video card after you make all other connections, otherwise you'll be in for a few surprises. Longer video cards cover the SATA connectors, but right angle SATA cables will work fine. The front panel audio header is also blocked by a double-wide video card, which I discovered toward the end of the install. Finally, the video card prevents the DIMM socket clips nearest the card from opening fully, so if you're adding memory you'll have to lift the video card to fully open the clips.
Brackets for after market CPU fans may be blocked by adjacent heat sinks---my Zalman 9700 bracket needed some filing before it fit properly.

Other Thoughts: Although the board has some minor design issues (SATA connectors, etc.), the layout is easy to work with and provides lots of options for add-on components.

Pros: This was my first real build. I have taken other parts and just through them together to have a PC, but after this never again. Upgraded from 1.5GHz P4, 512MB RAM, 256 FX 5200 to what I have now(see other thoughts). Then performance gain is amazing. Board runs cool and loads Vista in about 25secs. Old PC took about 2.5mins for XP Pro 32-bit.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, 4GB DDR3 1333, 640GB WD HDD, XFX 9800 GTX, LG DVD Burner, NZXT Apollo, BFG 650W, and Vista Ultimate x64. Runs everything flawlessly . Thinking of upgrading to Core 2 Extreme, 8GB, Blu-Ray burner and maybe adding 1TB WD

Pros: 2 PCIe2 slots, DDR3, eSATA, 8 USB 2 ports, very stable & fast

Cons: Cant add/remove memory without taking out graphics card, not a big deal. i get a message whenever i start up after disconnecting from the power source that says "board has detected failed POST attempts, y to enter bios, n to exit." I press n and it restarts normally, but it shouldnt be doing that. Thats the only reason I gave this board a 4/5 stars. Also, whenever I turn on the comp, it powers up, shuts off, then powers up again. I dont know if this "cycling" is common or not.

Other Thoughts: q9300, Radeon 3870, Xigmatek 750 watt, Maxtor 500 gig hd, creative SB pro, Patriot 1333 mhz ddr3, Vista 64bit Ultimate.

Rating + 5 Everything I Wanted

Pros: It was easy to work with and upgrade the BIOS. The board is rock solid, no unexplained blue screens or sudden reboots from day one. Running two sticks of DDR3 RAM and it is fast. Have not done any overclocking but am still hitting 12,000+ on 3DMark06 with only a 9300 Yorkfield CPU.

Cons: Does NOT have any IDE slots, so had to purchase an SATA to IDE adapter to run my old second drive. Likewise no floppy drive for those who still run them. Room is very tight with a long video card and the SATA connectors. Chose a case wisely.

Other Thoughts: This board assumes that very little in the way of legacy components are going into it. A great board if one is starting from scratch.

Pros: I upgraded from a P4 ASUS mobo which was my first build, so I'm no expert. Just plugged everything in and tada! - works just fine. Not an overclocker, so haven't pushed the board or anything. easily updated BIOS, and installed all drivers. Not running raid setup either. No Ethernet issues, have all USB ports connected to external-ATA-HD's to keep my old drives.

Cons: I'd repeat the issues of the tite spacing on the ram with long video cards, and the SATA connectors being so close to the drives on my medium sized case.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded(?) from XPpro to Vista32. the USB-only keyboard/mouse didn't have any issues during boot and updates. running 2x2gb sticks of Patriot 1333 so not really addressed the 1600 issues. Rad-4850 video - awesome for my WoW. put a massive thermaltake copper sink on & running at 48-55 consistently.

Pros: Someone that I guess read that this board only supports 4gigs of ram and then only 1 gig sticks. This isn't exactly correct. The latest bios update lets you use 8gigs with 2gig sticks. I have 8 gigs of Mushkin ddr3 1600 memory running trimmings of 7-7-7-20 1700 (Over clocked). As for the memory standard statement, the board is designed to match the speed of the FSB to the MEMORY. So if you’re CPU runs at 1333 then your memory will down clock to 1333 (assuming you have 1600 epp memory). If you have the cash to get the extreme chip that natively runs at 1600fsb then your memory will plug and play at 1600. If not there is some over clocking that you can do. Down step the multiplier and then up the FSB to 400(4*400 = 1600 FSB).

Cons: Hard to overclock.

Other Thoughts: If you have the cash to get the extreme chip that natively runs at 1600fsb then your memory will plug and play at 1600. If not there is some over clocking that you can do. Down step the multiplier and then up the FSB to 400(4*400 = 1600 FSB). You memory will auto clock up and then just plug in your trimmings in the bios and you will have no problems. If you do not wish to OC your chip there is another option in the new bios that will let you force the chips up to 1600 by changing the MHZ base rating to 400. You will have to set the timing manually if you do that however.

Other Thoughts: I've researched this board on the intel site. It looks like the spuds at Newegg.com have been having a bad habit of not sharing all the information. the Standard Memory for this board is not 1600 DDR3. With 1600 DDR3 you cannot breach 4GB and must use 1GB chips. Step down to 1333 and you can do 2GB chips to get your 8GB. So far all the issues I've really read are "memory" related and/or Overclocking issues. OC is an option so you cannot really whine about this. But the memory issues is a lack of education on Newegg.com's part. I reccommend always reviewing the Technical Documentation for a board before spending your thousands to upgrade!

Pros: The board is totally stable and was easy to install. The board setup in minutes. I like that the board is straight from Intel so the documentation, drivers, and bios upgrades comes off of Intel's easy to use website. The sound from the board chip is excellent.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Waiting for a GA release of Intel desktop control panel. The current one is beta software. I prefer the CPU has an option for actual temperature instead of just thermal units.

Rating + 5 DX48BT2 the second time around ...

Pros: I previously reviewed this board in July, 2008 and was having a lot of trouble with it. After several e-mails back and forth with Intel (they were very responsive and helpful), they decided to have me RMA the board. The new board arrived and I immediately noticed that it was physically a different board - the old board with the Xigmatek 1283 cooler fit fine in the CM Cosmos S case but the new one experienced significant interference with the side fan (but it was easily resolved). With the latest BIOS (1814) this board works great and the OCZ DDR3 memory was easily clocked to run at 1600 MHz (don't forget to bump that voltage up to 1.86 or 1.90).

Cons: Yes, yes - the memory bumps a large video card like a 9800 GTX and the same video card covers the first two SATA ports on the board ... but so what? It's easily dealt with. Suck it up and go on!

Other Thoughts: Solid. Good price. Good support. Intel QX 9770 chews up video encoding like a hot knife through buttah and never missed a beat!

Pros: Has run very stable for me so far and provides excellent performance with today's standards. I'm using the SATA RAID for a striped volume and that's been very stable as well. The quality of the on-board audio is fantastic.

Cons: If you manually set the four base memory timings you have to manually set the more complex timings manually as well.

Other Thoughts: DDR3 is very expensive. I've used Intel boards for years and they've all been rock solid stability wise. Driver support is also nice, and the free utilities included to monitor temperatures and handle overclocking from within the OS are nice as well.

Rating + 4 OC

Pros: Revised review: After working with this board and reading other's reviews over the past month and a half, specifically with overclocking, I would give this board at least 4 stars now. I was able to get it up to 3.2Ghz stable oc with the Q9450.
Stock speeds have proven to be quite stable and performance is decent for all my needs; encoding, graphics rendering, and some gamming.
I'm running it at a modest 2.8Ghz now and I'm happy with it. Temps seem to be all within specification. I have yet to have a heat related issue.

Cons: Limited support for DDR3, as in only 4 GB.

Other Thoughts: Thanks demonx5584 for the FSB tip. It works well. I've never oc'd before, but with this build I can at least get my feet wet.

Rating + 5 Exactly what i expected

Pros: Stability. Support for 8gb memory. No legacy. Has 8 usb ports on the back panel, 2 eSata, and 1 firewire. I was finally able to ditch my usb hub. This is a rock solid system. I went with a q9550 and they are the perfect match. I've built many amd systems and one other intel besides this one. The intel outlasted all the amd systems so i decided to go intel for my next system. I haven't had a single crash in two months. I stopped overclocking years ago so i was only looking for stability and this delivered.

Cons: Only supports ddr3 1600 in two slots and a max of 4gb for it.

Pros: This intel board is very stable with stock values in bios. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a no fuss system.

Cons: Processor appears to be running hot, but this is from my ancient case and need for increased airflow.

Other Thoughts: First build with intel. A breath of fresh air after dealing with EVGA problems.

Pros: Stable, Fast, and supports DDR3 1600. Overclocks very easly. Have a Q6600 running at 3.6ghz 9x400fsb.

Cons: SATA Layout gets in the way of larger cards like the extended 4870x2 or gtx280 etc...
NB runs hot and needs a fan installed on the supplied bracket.
Can only run a max of 4gigs of memory at 1600mhz. Only two of the Dimms support DDR3 1600.

Other Thoughts: Running the 2x2gig kit of muskin memory XP3-12800 PN-996601. Does not support legacy so make shure your key board and mouse are USB.
Running this board with the above memory, 2 velociraptors raid 0, 3870 in xfire, PC P@C 860w PSU, Q6600. Vista Ultimate x64.

Rating + 5 Great mobo

Pros: I've been using this mobo for a few months now without any problems. Currently have my e8500 clocked @ 3.8 ghz and 1600 FSB with no problems, although I still have some tweaking to do. Using 4 gb of OCZ DDR3-1600 RAM @ the default timings: 7-6-6-24 @ 1.9v. DOWNLOAD THE LATEST BIOS IF YOU BUY THIS MOBO!

Cons: I really have none. BIOS is (at first) somewhat complicated. A lot of options available to change and tweak. At first I wish the mobo had the legacy port for a floppy drive but now I don't mind not having a floppy drive. I rarely use it anymore anyways and it saves some space.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people seem to have trouble OCing on this mobo. Not sure why, but make sure you have the latest BIOS installed. Then go into the BIOS and reset everything to default settings. Then try changing the fsb timings on the cpu up by 10 and reboot. If PC boots up easily, keep bumping the timing up and repeat the process. (Ex. e8500's default fsb is 333 x 9.5 multiplier which = 3163.5 MHz which is ~3.16 GHz. For first OC, try upping the fsb to 343 x 9.5, etc.) Depending on how much the oc is, you will probably have to bump up the fsb and mcs voltage up a little bit from default settings. Having cpu voltage offset disabled, enhanced power slope enabled and C1E disabled may help with OCing. It appears having DDR3-1600 RAM and a cpu with a 1333 mhz fsb are the key to over clocking on this mobo.

Rating + 5 Great Motherboard

Pros: Supports Overclocking. Supports DDR3 at 1333mhz on all four slots and supports some of the best CPUs. Even Came with a sigh to hang on your door. Also Supports Dolby Digital which is really nice. Is also very stable.

Cons: Supports DDR3 ant 1600mhz on only 2 slots which I only found out by opening the Box and reading the Yellow piece of paper it came on. Did Not come with a port for a floppy ribbon cable which would be useful for enabling RAID but you could do it with a USB floppy I guess.

Other Thoughts: Would certainly buy agian and recomend to friends.

Rating + 4 Mixed Feelings

Pros: Crossfire support, X48 chipset, 2GB LAN, DDR3 support, Intel Support

Cons: Put in only 1 memory chip when installing for the first time, then put the remaining chips afterwards!

I don't pretend on know how to overclock but I was quite shocked to buy 4GB of DDR3 at 1600, only to find out the board only supports 2GB of DDR3 at 1600. Due to the lack of AC in my home, I have no intention of overclocking my, just putting in the components I can running at spec. Unfortunately, in hindsight, I wish I bought 4GB of DDR3 at 1066. I would have saved some money too.

No manual per se.

My IDE DVD drive would read some CDs/DVDs, but not others, and I used it in my old system without a hitch. Bought a SATA DVD burner and it works fine. I don't know if I have a bad IDE connection (tried other cables too) or a bad driver.

Other Thoughts: Mixed feelings about this board. Their tech support was responsive via e-mail. They said you can change the memory at the BIOS level to 1600 but I had no luck.Hoping they create a new BIOS to make DDR3 1600 more compatiable than simply downgrading the speed.

Rating + 5 Wonderful, Hassle Free

Pros: This board installed my Q9450, 4-1gb sticks of patriot 1333 ram, vista ultimate x64 from a sata drive, flawlessley. It also came with bios 1554 already installed which was awsome. The board clocked my FSB and RAM to the settings i bought them at; didn't have to touch anything in the bios. It handles quads extremely well. I am going to try to push my q9450 to 3.0ghz, a modest overclock, but i hear it may be a challenge with this board.

Cons: None as of now...i am not used to not having floppy or PS2 ports, but 8 usb and 2 esata is nice. The 4 pin power connector is at a retarted place if your psu is on top of your case.

Other Thoughts: overall very reliable so far i have an old 25 dollar x1300 ati card in it now. Will be getting a 4870 soon (like tomorrow).
This is a great reliable board; get it if thats what your looking for.

Pros: Suports the new intel chips, DDR3 1600 (with fsb of 400)
Price for what you get.

Cons: Extremly hard to OC.... but I think I have her down.

Other Thoughts: In my first post I gave some pointers in over clocking this board. After about 3 months of running this thing hard I decided to go a little further. Stepped the OC up to 3.2 GHz (8x) with a FSB of 400. MCH or Northbridge needed to be volte down to keep from overheating. This is as high as I am willing to go. After this the NB starts to scare me. I fixed the board with a Thermaltake NB cooler and halved its temps. I said 4.0 before but if you do not get the aftermarket cooler try smaller first. The program that Intel gives you lets you see the voltage of the NB so just keep it in the green but as low as you can at the same time. Lower volts = less heat.
Cpu 3.2 GHz - 400 fsb
4gigs DDR3 1600 Muskin memory
3dmark Vantage score = 14654, 1 GTX 280 (All air cooled) Not bad eh?

Pros: Well, I am in the process of installing some games as I write this...but so far it seems awesome compared to my 3 year old e-machine.... This review isn't about how great Intel is or isn't.

Cons: Could've used better instructions...thank goodness I had a laptop and wireless connection.

Other Thoughts: When installing my 2002 copy of Windows XP, I had to disable the dual core optimization in the Bios to install Windows. I wasted some time researching the BSOD IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message before figuring this out. Once Windows was installed I downloaded 97 updates from Microsoft!

Rating + 3 Intel Board

Pros: Intel stability. Great multimedia board. Not top-of-the-line, but respectable and stable at stock speeds.
Not unsatisfied with this board it has a great layout.
Plenty of room around the processor. I didn't feel like too much pressure was needed at all with an aftermarket heatsink/fan push pin setup (easy instalation). Plenty of fan headers. The 8800 GT doesn't block any on board SATA ports.
My first build. No problems that I couldn't work out myself.

Cons: Non intuitive Buggy bios and memory issues with the limited 1600DDR3 support. (had to reset the jumper on many occasions with only just light clock adjustments).
Intel corporation: One hand says you can oc it, the other
doesn't want you to...their corporate mindset I guess.
Southbridge heatsink is kindof small and the plastic logo is a thermal impediment if used.

Other Thoughts: My first build. No problems that I couldn't work out myself.

Pros: Core2Duo E8500 processor and this board combined with 4gb Patriot RAM and MSI Radeon HD4850 and WD Velociraptor has made one great computer. Windows 64 runs flawlessly on it, and everything is just as snappy and quick operating as you would want. Drivers are solid and steady, no crashes or hangups at all.

Cons: Could use more front panel USB connections for card readers, etc.

Other Thoughts: I always enjoy building systems with Intel boards. Not the bleeding edge fastest around, but stable, reliable, and trouble free.

Pros: Put my new system together, only the second computer I have built myself. Didn't even try the stock fan per reviews of the q9450 cpu. Everything went together started it up installed vista x64 and tried my first oc'ing @3.2 Ghz 1600 fsb no voltage change. Using Intel's desk top control panel stressed the system 100% cpu, gpu, and memory for 2 hr, SOLID, no errors

Cons: tried to update the bios from 1521 to 1554. That was a disaster alomost had to rma the mobo but intel customer service held with me for 83 min on the phone to work it back to the pervious bios. Amen!

Other Thoughts: My system,; q9450 @3.2Ghz, Zalman 9700 hsf, 1600fsb, intel DX48BT2 mobo 4G corsair 1600 XMS ram, BFG 9800 GX2 video card, Zalman 850w PSU. Playing crysis, COD4, CS source, UR 3, Quake all are playing very fast. Its a good solid board with many features

Rating + 2 Poor Quality

Pros: Not sure what to say here. The idea of the product is good :)

With fast memory, you need a low-power video card.
If you install a power hungry card such as the 9800, be sure to underclock your memory, or its not going to boot.

Cons: Very poor electrical design; Memory seems to draw power from the same bus as the I/O cards. High drain PCIE devices such as a 9800 series VC may prevent the system from posting if memory speed is somewhat high. (Will power cycle instead, sometimes endlessly)

Other Thoughts: At first blamed the memory, then the power supply, but after upgrading to Corsair, and getting new PurePower series Power supply - and testing with an older Intel 975XBX came to realize the problem was this new board!

Pros: Intel support, fast, reasonably priced, just works right out of the box. My first build went without a hitch...a little nervous after Bios flash...you need to disconnect the jumper from normal to update then back to normal. Raid set up was cake..I'm a noob too.

Cons: None, save your self the headache if you are not going to overclock. This Mobo rocks!

Other Thoughts: Do the research, thanks Tomshardware...this Mobo is the overall best performer. My build, Antec 900, Q6600, Rosewill Z775 cpu cooler, Intel dx48bt2 Mobo, 4gb ddr3 1333 patriot viper, power pc& cooling 610 W PSU, Asus 4850, 2x 320 GB deskstars in Raid 0. Pros: none

Cons: Here's a list of intial issues with the DX board:
1) Memory banks too close to line of 1st PCIx16 slot if you have a large Video card like a 8800, 9600, 9800, in order remove or install ram, the card must be removed.
2) SATA connectors - All six are upright and located right inline with each of the PCIx16 slots so if your adapter/video card is greater than 8.5", like the 8800, 9600, 9800, then one SATA connector is in-accessible, if the adapter is a 2xSlot than Two connectors are in-accessible. They can be used, if you can find a right-angle SATA cable that is less than 3/16inch above connection.
3) Vista Certified - yeah right, took several hours to finally get vista installed, could only install with a single RAM SIMM installed.
4) Now that Vista64 is installed, I should be able to install the other 3 2GB simms, NOT. After installing, and ensuring the timings are set as specified, Vista just BSOD's. Remove the 3 and OS is hosed need to re-install.

Other Thoughts: 5) Ooh, and the connectors for the PWR/Reset/HD are way over on backside of board, my ANTEC 900 cables barely reached.
6) PS2 ports gone, gone, gone. No 2nd NIC.
7) I could go on, but this should be enough to help you make an informed decision.

This board is going back.

And another thought, if you like watching water boil or snow melt, than you will love the ASUS website....

Pros: Great plug and play board for the new 45nm CPU and ddr3 memory.

Cons: I went through hell trying to overclock this thing. Even after updating the bios its a pain to mess with. 3 weeks of fighting to get this thing to work and for the money there are much better boards. Sucks at overclocking. Down below i am posting my settings and how i did it. Please be careful overclocking this thing - its extreemly picky. You will also HAVE to download and update the bios or this board simply will not work well at all.

Other Thoughts: I did finally get the thing overclocked but only to a min lvl.
I learned with some fustration that the FSB speed will auto clock the DDR3 to the same speed. Meaning if you have a chip like the q9450 that is @ 2.66ghz with a 1333fsb your DDR3 will be @ 1333.
So I went into the bios and altered the setting as follows. CPU voltage 1.38 - MCH 4.0 - FSB defalt - multplyer 7x (yes that is slower) - FSB 400 (faster 1600). ****I left all the memory setting to defalt allowing the cpu to match the speed to 1600***. You will want to download the *Intel Desktop control center* to keep an eye on things. This setting is stable for over 4 days never being turned off. I am not willing to go faster due to the fact that linked speed will burn my memory chips to crisps. The north bridge needs fan.
New speed = 2.8ghz 1600fsb - memory 1600 7-7-7-20. 4 gigs. Mushkin. Small upgrade but a very safe one that will allow your memory to function at full speed. Best of luck (cooled on air)

Pros: intels high end mother board 3 year warranty top end performance and latest processor support ..
what else could you want ... well read the cons to find out

Cons: this from the looks of things is intels replacement for the 975xbx2 and at first sight it looks good but here comes the nitpicks..

first my biggest peve no manual ... the 975 xbx2 came with legacy ports case extras and a manual. with the same price of 250... this one you get less stuff (cables and what not )and no manual... bah..

no legacy support 975xbx had lpt1 ps2 and a serial port
this one nadda just usb, 8 which is nice but would have been better to have the ps2 and the lpt1 .

no floppy support big deal i know but the 975xbx2 had it.

and another nitpik 975 had 8 sata ports on the mobo
this one has 6 with 2 external ... !!!? argh

oh well for people without need or want of any legacy compatibility this motherboard will do nicely.

for those of wanting the next step up from the 975 will have to look else where

Other Thoughts: kinda disappointed in this board it kinda feels like i paid 250 for a cheap motherboard no manual no extras just a bare bones box with a flyer the feeling would be complete if it said sucker on it...

Rating + 4 High quality stability - not for overclockers

Pros: I am impressed with the quality of this board, extremely stable and has a good many features. the best features IMHO are 8 SATA connections (6 Int/2 Ext), DDR3 Support, ICH9r raid controller exceptionally easy as is the BIOS. Intels STR (Suspend to Ram) actually works on this board! its awesome to never have to power off the machine and still save power. One thing that stands head and shoulders above every other MB manufacturer out there are the drivers and tools from Intel.. they are simply the best quality and functionality.

Cons: 0 and 1 SATA ports are directly behind the PCI-Exp lane making it impossible to use standard SATA cable in those 2 ports once you install your Vid card.

Other Thoughts: This MB is picky with memory, Highly suggest that you match your proc's FSB speed with your memory native FSB. I could not get my E8500 @ 1333 FSB to work well for long periods of time with a 4gb channel set of OCZ plat 1600 memory. Ended up swapping them out with recommend Crucial memory per Intels list of approved memory in the user guide.

Rating + 3 Expected more from Intel

Pros: Works OK at default clock speeds.

Cons: Overclocking is a bit strange on this board. If you have "Watchdog" enabled, you won't be able to clock it up much. If "Watchdog" is off, you can clock it up more, but have to use the CMOS jumper if you over-do it. I was able to get the Core2 Quad 2.40ghz to run stable at 3.29GHz, however the machine is not capable of rebooting. You have to hard-boot it if you need to restart. This is true all the way down to 2.9.

You could argue this is due to overclocking, however the machine is rock solid stable at 3.29 in windows, yet can't reboot successfully even at 2.9ghz Seems like something a BIOS may fix later on.

Other Thoughts: Overall OK, just extremely irritating about the reboot problem. Esp durring setup when you have to reboot after everything you do.

Cons: maybe the soundcard isn't the best. not as many overclocking features as I would like.

Pros: Quality and reliablity you expect from Intel. Good motherboard to use with Core 2 Quad 9450 I installed on it.

Cons: 1. Requires special memory at double the normal price to use the 1600 mhz front bus speed.
2. It only allows 4 gigs of memory max and only in 2 slots.
3. 2 of the SATA connections are blocked by the NVidia GeForce 9800 GTX graphics card.

Other Thoughts: I went with this motherboard because of the reliability you usually get with Intel. I don't plan on overclocking but wanted the speed of the 1600 mhz front bus. The board recognizes it as memory as 1066 mhz. I am running Vista Ultimate 64.

Rating + 3 Double Check Your Memory

Pros: Good price, stable motherboard. Supports ddr3.

Cons: Bios features leave a lot to be desired. Intel support for the board seems to consist of "You have to let the board decide what to do with your memory or it's overclocked."

Other Thoughts: Per Intel:
Be aware that we never recommend manually changing the RAM configuration in the BIOS, since this is considered overclocking. If fully compatible, your modules should be detected correctly by the BIOS.
The board has four DIMM sockets and supports the following memory features:
· Dual or single channel memory configurations
· Four 240-pin Double Data Rate 3 (DDR3) SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) connectors with gold-plated contacts.
· 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz DDR3 SDRAM interface
· Unbuffered, non-registered single or double-sided DIMMs
· Non-ECC DDR3 memory
· Serial Presence Detect (SPD) memory only
· Up to 4.0 GB utilizing 512 Mb or 1 Gb technology
· Up to 8.0 GB utilizing 1 Gb technology
For 1600 MHz memory, only two DIMMs are supported for a maximum of 4 GB utilizing 1 Gb memory technology. DIMMs should be configured as a matched pair equal in speed and size in DIMM 0 and DIMM 1 of channel B.

Pros: What cane I say Folks? Intel simply designs and builds solid reliable products. This board is sweet and in my peronal opinion worth the cash. It just seemd this mainboard was made for me with its black and blue cosmetics and skul.

Cons: Some settings are not as adjustable as I would prefer. My onboard fan contectors are not showing up in BIOS as far as fan speeds are concerned.

Other Thoughts: The DX48BT2 motherboard controls my ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler very well. Even thought the fan connector is a three pin type. This is good because I did not want to add extra wiring for the Zalman fan speed controller. I don't need more cabling to try to hide. No problems with the board detecting my sata drives or CPU. It's very much just plug-and-play. I did update the BIOS to 1554 with no issues.

Cons: RAM is set to 1066 by default (atleast w/ my Patriot Viper)

Also after adding in a Sound Blaster Xtreme X-Fi PCI express card, the power will shut off after about 2 seconds, but 2nd power on works fine, and restarts are fine (just seems to be cold 1st boot) not sure if its the sound card or the board??

Other Thoughts: Q9450 + DX48BT2 + 8 GB Patriot Viper 1333 DDR3 + GeForce 8800GT Akimbo 1GB DDR3 + 2x 750GB Seagate in RAID 0 + Vista Ultimate 64 = Windows Experence Index of 5.9, 5.9, 5.9, 5.9, 5.8 = )

Cons: I absolutely cannot get this board to accept a dual channel memory configuration - no matter what I try! It accepts a single channel, assym just fine but I want to run 4 Gigs of 1600 MHz (2 x 2GB). No matter how I configure or time the two OCZ mem modules (including channels/sockets/etc), it always hangs at the boot screen(s). I have also tried some Corsair memory but similar results. BTW, the Intel mem auto-config will set up the single mem module to run at 1.54v which will cause all sorts of random freeze ups, re-boots, etc ... bump it up to 1.78 or 1.82v for stability!

If Intel does not issue a new BIOS flash soon that fixes this problem, I will be jumping to Asus or Giga.

Other Thoughts: FWIW: The colors on this board look like a an adult picked them out instead of Krusty the Clown selecting colors for a 14 year old.

Rating + 5 Inter DX48B2 - Great Investment in Stability and performance

Pros: I needed a MB that would support DDR3 1600 ram, quad core Intel up, 2x video cards, RAID disks, and be stable. Most MB reviews were disapointing; incompatibilities & instability abounded, bad for a Biz/gaming system. Serveral reviews mentioned the stability of the Intel motherboards, that have support for all of the features I needed. This MB only supports Crossfire, and it also turned out to be the best deal. The result? A stable system that runs great. The Crossfire using (2) 3870X2 cards was faster / $$ than ANY other video card setup; Nvidia was almost 2x the price to better performance. The Intel Quad Q9450 2.66GHz performed great, Best $$ with a 12MB cache. Intel was poor w/ details on the DDR3 1600 memories would work, so I used the Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB), you do need to set the 1600 voltage and clock parameters seperately (see mem data sheet). The RAID performed flawlessley.

Cons: Not many. Setting up the RAID array took an external USB floppy w/ XP. You need to get the Kingston memory data sheet to see the 1600 setup parameters and run them at 1.82V, the chips ID themselves as slower memory, but the data sheet guarntees that they tested ok to 1600.

Other Thoughts: Best performing system I ever built!!! I recommend XP Pro 32, VISTA really is 30% slower. Why pay for the faster h/w and waste it on an OS with no reasonable feature edge, has limited drivers, & that runs slower?.

I also looked at Azus, Gigabit, and others and saw they all had stability issues in some of the reviews. A chance that people running biz s/w are unwilling to take.

Rating + 4 Post failure with

Pros: Board seemed to have everything well placed. Finally no more legacy.

Cons: Failed to post with 4gb OCZ3RPR13334GK. I tried each module, in different DIMMS with no luck. Mainboard continued to give me 3 beeps stating memory issues. RMA'd both with newegg awaiting replacement.

No manual no screws.

Rating + 4 Stable but Mid-ling

Pros: Intel stability, driver support, and BIOS. S3 standby actually works on this board, so if you want it "quiet, off, and on lower powe off". This is it. 2X16 slots, 1x4 slot with a x16 connector (same as other X48 chipset boards). Good placement of SATA. HD audio is so-so. Lots of USB2.0, but you need 2 of them for Keyboard/Mouse. Has 1394A, newish for Intel mobo. Intel S/W F6-key Boot RAID is solid, but NO WAY to install on XP x64. CDROM RAID install OK on Vista 64, or USB floppy. This is a VISTA mobo, or EXPERT Linux. Only slipstreamed boot CD for XP-64, super-Expert.... Good CPU Cooler space. (Poor for flower types though).

Cons: No legacy floppy, pick a different board for XP x64 (Vista 64 is fine). Only 2 slot (4Gb) support for 1600Mhz DDR3. [4-slot (8Gb) support for 1333Mhz DDR3 and slower]. DDR3 is expensive. Goofy HD Audio FP pin-out. NO PS/2 Keyboard Mouse, if you use a PS/2 KVM, choose another. O.C. options below competition. Memory support is POOR at 1600Mhz. OK at 1333Mhz-.

Other Thoughts: SLI 790i outperforms the X48, and mobo have better O.C. generally. DDR3 on 790i & X48 expensive. For X48, O.C. with Gigabyte, which has both DDR2 & DDR3 in same board. For 790i, XFX or EVGA & SLI. All give floppy, PS/2, audio+'s. Intel gives BIOS,stable, drivers.

Rating + 4 Great Board

Pros: Support for most peripherals, very fast board. Support for 1600mhz modules of DDR3 RAM, and an x48 chipset.

Cons: Limited configuration of RAM modules (applies to 1600mhz only).

Other Thoughts: Besides the memory issue, it's a spectacular board.

Rating + 5 Intel for the win!

Pros: This is my first build. No problems at all, detected my memory timings without changing the BIOS. Intel stability and support. Spare parts available at Intel's website. It looks like the cables may be UV-reactive. Black PCB and blue slots look great with my blue LED fans. Support for the QX9770. Admittedly, I'm a n00b at overclocking so I'm not sure how it performs in that respect.

Cons: Expensive, but you get what you pay for. At this price they couldn't throw in the optional 40mm Northbridge fan? Only supports two DDR3 1600 modules.

Other Thoughts: My first time installing a Socket 775 and it was terrifying! I thought I was bending all of the pins. Don't worry, a moderate amount of pressure is needed to close the latch.

Rating + 5 Read the manual

Pros: Please read the manual before posting comments on intel boards. This board is great; It does support 8G DDR3, every high end intel CPU, PCIe 2.0, etc.

Cons: Lack of SLI, but its Intel fault

Other Thoughts: Manual: http://support.intel.com/products/motherboard/DX48BT2/index.htm

Pros: Nice board, but.....

Cons: Only 4 gigs of 1600?? Really?? What a waste of a great board! This would be a perfect motherboard if it would support 8 gigs of 1600. And I'm guessing if you are shopping for a board like this, you won't be satisfied with only 4 gigs. I wish Intel would make it clear about this, before opening the box and discovering the yellow letter.

Other Thoughts: Newegg rocks.

Pros: PCI express x2, DDR3 1600, SATA, x48 chipset. All in all im satisfied because the board delivers what i need to game.

Cons: Only two DIMM slots support DDR3-1600 = idiotic design
Sound card while acceptable is the weakest sound I've ever heard from a computer. I was severely disappointed, will not drive my LFE for squat.

Other Thoughts: Download drivers from intel website. The easy install driver CD was kind of glitchy and locked the keyboard and mouse first round.
