Rating + 4 nice mobo

Pros: Good mobo, came with lots of extras including games and tools.

Cons: Drivers for onboard audio are glitchy. First, they caused the computer to hang when trying to shut down, now after reinstalling the drivers it causes an error at startup...

Other Thoughts: Good mobo, pairs perfectly with i7

Rating + 4 Stable but not Idiotproof

Pros: Out of the box it is pretty ideal for an in the box build. The install and maintenance of the board, as well as the BIOS were almost smooth. A good baseline for Intel's 1366 boards. Intel's support has been good. Overall the build of the hardware is strong.

Cons: Setup Issues: The USB and 1394 connectors on the board are difficult to distinguish. The RAID mode have proven too difficult for me to implement. Adjustments in BIOS seem to cause more problems than they resolve.

The SATA connectors on board are scary to use as it feels like im going to rip my board off whenever i unplug one.

Other Thoughts: Building a rig?: This probably isn't the one at this price. If you can build a machine, you'll want more RAM than this can provide. I have a mid tower (NZXT Tempest) and this ATX form really didnt make as good a use of space as i would have liked. I would have liked to add another video card ("supports Crossfire") but the space on the board makes it practically impossible (unless you like zero airflow).

Pros: Always boots, Easy to configure.
Has everything you need to create a high end workstation
Quality components.

Cons: SLI and CrossFire is a Joke
Not just on this board but any dual slot board
just not enough room between slots and other
cards or vga cards are cramped and cooling becomes
and issue.

Other Thoughts: I am not a dedicated gamer.
I only tried sli and crossfire.
and I don't overclock my equipment so this board was perfect.

Rating + 5 1.2 years and going strong.

Pros: ALL Windows 7 drivers available ( + the new and revised IDDC - Intel Desktop Control Center) 15+ bios updates to perfection.

Cons: 3 dimms for memory. But even with 6 gigs and every 32 bit application I have running, I never use over 3 gigs - even under windows 7 64 ultimate.

Other Thoughts: Not one issue with this board...Not one! It's always performed 1st rate for me. Although the windows 7 drivers took some time to be perfected, it's running great. It also appears (with the latest bios) for new processor support that i'm sure allows for the new Core I9 coming shortly.

Rating + 1 Great board... While it worked

Pros: While it worked it was a nice motherboard. Fairly easy to install. Looked nice. Did everything a motherboard should.

Cons: Abruptly died at six months old. I was installing a new CD burner, not difficult by any means. Only time I touched the board was to plug in the SATA cable. powered on the computer and it ran for approximately five minutes then died completely and would not turn back on. I removed every piece of hardware and could still not get the motherboard to post. I am quite disappointed.

Other Thoughts: After reading the other similar situations to this and their experience with Intel tech support I am just going to eat the loss. I don't have the time to fight some tech support personnel to get the customer service I think I deserve.

Rating + 4 Great motherboard, and overclocks easily

Pros: It's rock solid, reliable, posts every time with an i7 920 overclocked to 3.6Ghz. The 7.1 channel audio sounds great, and rivals high end sound cards I've used in the past. Despite others saying this board will not overclock, that is not true. Mine overclocked in the bios with ease, but I didn't use Intel's Desktop Control Center program, as it doesn't work on Windows 7, which takes us to our cons.

Cons: IDCC doesn't work under Windows 7, but worked perfectly when I was running Windows XP Pro on the same computer (I bought Win 7 after I built this PC). Yes, IDCC is a nice program, and I miss it (get off your butts Intel and release the Windows 7 update)! This Motherboard has two extra power connections on it that are required for proper operation. One 4 pin molex and a SATA power connector in two awkward locations made it difficult to route wires neatly in the case without crossing over the motherboard. I still accomplished neat wire management with proper planing and execution though. The SATA connectors for the HDDs and Rom drives are, as other have stated, straight up instead of off to the right side. Intel did include right angle SATA cables for this, but still doesn't make for an easy attempt of neatness in your case. I think this is something Intel could have improved before initial release of this motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I do like the way Intel removed all PS2, parallel, and serial ports from this motherboard. Those are ALL outdated methods of connection and I have zero use for any of them. That left more space for important things like extra USB ports (there are 8). I don't understand why Intel wasted their time installing 4 memory slots on this board when it clearly operates triple channel the best, and what it was designed for. Everyone who installs memory in all 4 slots has a decrease in performance, so why waste the time putting one on the board? The 4th slot is un-usable when you install some high end CPU heat sinks anyway, so again...useless! Overall, this board scores 4 eggs for reliability, stability, and quality. It loses the 5th egg due to bonehead designs and engineering mistakes. This was NOT my first choice of i7 motherboard, but I only bought it because it was included in a combo deal that was too good to pass up.

Rating + 5 I love it

Pros: no legacy junk, easy to install and set up, booted first time, bios easy to use, runs very well.

Cons: IDCC not compatible with windows 7

Other Thoughts: I alternate between ASUS and Intel for my builds. I picked the Intel after dithering for a month and am very pleased. Fast, stable, with the exception noted above works fine with windows 7

Rating + 5 Never had it so good ! Intel all the way !!

Pros: I built this system for stock trading and everything else :>) using the DX58SO board of course. In an Antec Sonata case, 4 monitor card , card reader and 2 CD/DVD drives, along with SSD and a 1 TB drive. Antec 650 watt supply. Runs cool and quiet with fans on low.

Cons: I have ben using HP printers and plotter for years on 2 Dell and 1 HP computer, fighting the software, installing , reinstalling etc. I installed the same software in this machine and I thought I died and went to heaven ! No problems at all, like I had with other computers.

Other Thoughts: I thought it was the HP software that was giving me the trouble, I talked with HP in silicon valley etc. and with Tech support for more hours than I care to mention ! With this Intel those problems went away ! Intel all the way, Seems we don't need to worry about compatibility problems with Intel !! And why not, Intel is the standard that all others copy/clone !

Rating + 3 Come on Intel. IDCC is needed. NOW!

Pros: Great board. Up until the time the IDCC (Intel Desktop Control Center) application, SPECIFICALLY for this board became useless with the introduction of Windows 7. As per the Intel forums, they claim it was going to be released before or shortly after Windows 7 becomes live, and still no control center.

Cons: Intel shows this application as a intricate tool to be used for overclocking. It's important NewEgg for people to understand if they use Windows 7, they won't be able to use this program.

Rating + 1 OC Board that Does not OverClock

Pros: None. I expressly bought it to Overclock and I CAN NOT!

Cons: Intel does not have a Windows 7 version of their IDCC.

Other Thoughts: How long has 7 been out in Beta or RC form. Intel did not SEE Windows 7 coming? Why did I buy this motherboard?

Rating + 5 SATA ports

Pros: There are a few online reviews about this board and 2 things are always mentioned, Excellent quality and the SATA ports are upright instead of sideways and if you have a long video card, one or two SATA ports will not be usable but what the reviews fail to mention is that intel provides 6 SATA cbles with small profile L connectors that fit perfectly under the long video cards.

Cons: the 2 auxiliary power connectors might be confusing but not needed for current hardware

Other Thoughts: Yes, it overclocks

Rating + 1 Intel are the worst!

Pros: None

Cons: Motherboard was DOA, called Intel, they said they were going to RMA, I paid for the shipping, a week later, they tell me it was physical damage. I told them I didn't even touch the board, they can't do anything because I didn't put the pnp cup on, escalated 3 times, they can't do anything about physical damage. I bought a new board, it died a week after, tried to RMA, forgot pnp cup again, there's nothing they can do about it they tell me. Now they have both of my 1366 motherboards and I have to pay to get both repaired or they can send it back without repairing, can't even refund shipping. Horrible board with horrible customer support

Other Thoughts: Don't ever go with intel boards, Asus all the way. And if you want a cheap one go with Gigabyte.

Pros: Matched with the extreme processor good overclocker. good audio.

Cons: memory only 3 slots, fourth slot useless, but do you really need more ?

Other Thoughts: Intel boards are good soild boards. If you do not really know what you are doing stay away from this board. If it has the old bois only three processors will work. check intels web site for details. Also don't knock a board if you are trying to run it with a triple A battery!

Rating + 1 Beware Intel Motherboard - ASUS is winner

Pros: Good instruction manual.
Accessible Customer Service

Cons: Defective board.
Intel support doesn't stand behind board.

Other Thoughts: I want to alert others to the lack of warranty support for Intel motherboards.

The story:

Bought a i7 and Intel mobo thinking; may not be the best out there but Intel will stand behind it.
1 week later I've installed the mobo, OCZ memory, i7 cpu and hooked up the power. Posts fine. Then add the VGA card and HDD and it posts again. Good so far. Then I smelled smoke. Then the mobo died.
Wont even post. So I remove HDD and VGA and try again. Then just one memory card...no post. Different memory card....no post. Conclusion fried mobo. Call Intel....tell me it's likely they will not RMA since it's "physical damage". Talk to different Intel group. Same thing, but they give me a glimmer of hope...we might take it back and then charge nominal fee for repair. After some checking..nope that's not an option either. I ask for escalation 3 times with the same story. It's physical damag

Rating + 4 Confusing, but good

Pros: Blazing performance with an i7 processor—takes full advantage of every possible feature. Pre-overclocked my 3.06GHz to 3.48GHz. Built-in audio is great for quasi-advanced users while remaining easy to configure and use.

Cons: Weird setup issues... kept getting this "No hard disk is detected!" error during initial OS install that made my build last almost 5 days. Fixed the major problem, but the error still always pops up. It is quite annoying, because I have no idea how to bypass it. Also, the setup instructions were very vague. A user manual would've been nice.

Other Thoughts: If you can get around this board's quirks, it will perform amazingly. Aside from what I mentioned above, I have had no problems with the board or the features it comes with. Intel support is notably competent.

Rating + 4 Solid & Stable = Reliable product to this point.

Pros: Very Solid and Stable operation to date. Overclocking etc. intel should be proud of their i7 series and the quality I've experienced quantifies it's price point.

Cons: CPU Socket design very easy to miss-align with CPU. Very delicate and installer must be extremely careful. The Front Panel Audio connector is in a bad spot with proximity to PCI slot. Using a PCMCIA adapter and the connector is unusable.

Pros: actually does work

Cons: limited on board diagnostics

Other Thoughts: after considerable time and effort, including new expensive video card and power supply, it turns out that corsair 650watt power was at fault. replaced with antec 750 watt power, board now boots, apologies for my doubting review of several weeks ago. upgraded to 4 eggs

Rating + 4 Pricy, bu hey its Intel...

Pros: Everything worked, esata, SLI, RAID, etc.. No issues in Vista Ultimate x64 nor in Windows 7 x64 (Ult., Ent, Pro). Mine was promo at the time and included two games that I actually wanted! The extra fan for the chipset was not only a bonus but necessary in my tightly confined media center chassis. No issues so far with the green power supply I upgraded to (it dynamically turns stuff off, I assume its working).

Cons: Expensive. I know it is Intel and it includeas a great warranty but for the money, I would have rather had some more options, including some legacy. The 8GB RAM limit should be the show stopper for most. If you are nothing but a home user, it is more than adequate. If you run server like services and media rich applications, and its in 64 bit, the limit is enought to find another board. Besides the true limit is 6GB since enabling slot 4 disables the multi channel memory mode and seriously degrades the memory performance.

Other Thoughts: BIOS is fine. Good tip, always update before you load a new pc. Upgrade the BIOS, upgrade the compnonents firmware, be prepared with the latest drivers, and finally READ THE INSTRUCTIONS if you are not familiar with the particulars of a deivce or app.

Rating + 5 Great Board

Pros: Very well built board with a pretty decent layout. There are a couple design flaws in my opinion. Glad to see there is no Jmicron junk on here for ATA support. Much better off buying some IDE to SATA connectors for older devices. System took a little bit to boot before bios flash, but no other real system quirks.

I was able to get my i920 (D0) clocked to 4ghz with little effort. Rock solid stable.

Cons: You won't find all the tweaking options like you will on other x58 boards. But this wont stop you from pushing the board and cpu.

Other Thoughts: Bought an OEM version through another retailer.

Pros: runs great but a big headache with sli.

Cons: Had to do a Bios update to get Sli to run. Big disapointment to have to go through all the trouble shooting to figure out the problem. who whould think 'no hard disk found' error would be because of video cards not the hard drive at all.

Other Thoughts: planed this as a sli build but it would not boot past the bios. Took 1 card out and everything worked fine. Loaded the os 'vistat 64' and tried card #2 no go. Finally called video card tech support they walked me thought updating the bios and now everything works fine.

Rating + 2 problems in month 4

Pros: Easy to set up first time, easy SLI with two nvidia 8800GTX cards, after BIOS upgrade board enabled SLI after only checking preference box of nvidia driver software, installed win vista 64ultimate without problem

Cons: froze during games occasionally
after 4 months light use, and after good gaming session day before, would not boot, started ....stopped then spontaneously restarted all with no visible video
pulled both 8800GTX's and tried a new MSI nvidia 260 board, still same problem (yes tried with and without extra power plug)
tried resetting bios, etc. still attempting to troubleshoot
i too wanted this board for legendary intel reliability, but i'm beginning to think mobo at fault ... next am changing power supply guessing that 12volt leads were fried by dual 8800GTX's during gaming session, as corsair 650watt power was a little under specified

Pros: Typical Intel solidity. Worked perfect without a catch.

Cons: The SATA connectors are ridiculously placed. The four DIMM connectors instead of six is unfortunate.

Pros: Rock stable with decent performance
On-board Intel ethernet adapter
Frequent BIOS updates
Plenty of connections for external devices

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Would buy again without hesitation.
System is more than fast enough for me at stock speeds.
Not the leader in X58 mobo performance, but stability means more.
Most people see only having 4 memory slots as a con, but few realize you will never notice the speed difference when using all 4 slots in a desktop setup.

Rating + 4 Good board but sorta expensive

Pros: Very stable if you don't overclock your CPU, easy to flash the BIOS, comes with a small 40mm fan for northbridge chipset (LED). Also like the others said, plenty of USB, SATA, 1394 ports. It comes with Intel Desktop Control Center to help with overclocking.

Cons: When you OC the board becomes a bit unstable. You'd really have to know the inside out of the mobo settings in order to fine-tune your OC. Some may find that 40mm fan makes a high pitch whiney noise.

Other Thoughts: I also got this as a bundle and for the price that I paid, can't really complain. It does what it supposed to do and then some. All I can say is that I got Core i7 920 up to 4.00 GHz stable for months with no problem whatsever.

Rating + 4 great board

Pros: Worked out of the box
Triple channel memory got a 7.7 performance rating from Windows 7 performance tool
Enough SATA and USB ports on the board

Cons: 40mm IOH heat sink fan that comes with the MB is noisy
I replaced it with a Silenx Ixtrema 40mm fan. I had to buy shorter bolts to install it on the Intel heat sink adapter bracket

Other Thoughts: The i7 920 CPU runs hotter than the Core 2 Duo I have in my other computer. I turned off the CPU fan control to run the Intel CPU fan at full speed. Temps from CoreTemp show the four cores running between 39C and 43C at idle. Max temp is 100C

I am running a i7 920 and Crucial Ballistix 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) memory with Western Digital Caviar Black HD's on this board

Rating + 5 Good Server Board

Pros: Im using this board as a server board, No problems with any time of locking up or such. All drivers work with whs. I did not have to update bios like other had to, I could of but im not having any issues.
-Comes with blue led chipset fan
-Plenty of sata slots
-Plenty of usb slots
-Supports my 8bit pci video card thats off a 1995 computer (only need basic graphics for install of whs)

Cons: one pci slot, however im using it as a server board so not that big of an issue for me.

Other Thoughts: I got this from a package deal. I recieved this board and an i7 2.66ghz quad core processor.
Theres other boards I would of choose over this however I did recieve a good price for it.

Pros: High build quality, extremely reliable, easy BIOS updating, good price. Have had no issues or surprises at all. A stark contrast to my first X58 board. Very happy with this product.

Cons: A little slow to POST.

Other Thoughts: Why do people buy this product knowing it only has 3 high speed mem slots then complain about it in the review. That kills me, it's a review of what it IS, not a wish list.

Pros: None.

Cons: I'm on my second DX58SO, RMA'd the first one with a bad audio card. RMA process took a week with no contact from Intel, had to call and escalate the process just to get the board looked at and then it was magically released.

Second board shows up WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. This board is garbage, buy ANY OTHER BOARD.

Other Thoughts: Intel fails so hard at motherboards for a company that is so awesome at processors. I can't believe I got 2 dead boards.

Rating + 5 Works wonderfully

Pros: Worked just fine out of the box. Updated BIOS early on, but didn't have any problems prior to doing so. Running Windows 7 and OS X just fine. Great Hackintosh board. Good overclocking options. My i7 920 is running at 3.8ghz so far, 1.175v with 80mv additional. Came with an optional fan to snap onto the IOH controller. Large print instructions with plenty of diagrams and even a large sticker to put inside your case with port diagrams. Very handy.

Cons: Onboard port placements are a bit screwy. SATA ports get blocked by large video cards. Could probably stand to have a few more overclocking options. Audio drivers are a bit buggy, but then again, I'm running Windows 7 RC1, so there are bound to be a few issues, I guess.

Other Thoughts: Overall, no major complaints. iAtkos v7 worked to get OS X running on it and it works wonderfully. Very little patching required. No legacy ports (well, IDE is there, but that's it), so be ready to toss out your PS2 keyboard. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Pros: Everything worked straight out of the gate. This was my first ever computer build, and I was able to setup a RAID array (2 WD 1TB green) without any help.

Cons: Had to update bios to use the XMP setting of 7/7/7/20 @1333MHz that my RAM advertised, but as soon as I did that, it worked great at those settings.

Other Thoughts: Everything went so well, that I plan to OC my Core i7 920 when I decide on an aftermarket cooler, and will probably switch my boot drive to a new Intel 34nm SSD when I go to Windows 7, keeping the 1TB mirror for a data drive.

Cons: Better placement of the SATA ports is needed. needs additional SATA for DVD If you max out the RAID controller.

Rating + 2 Beware

Pros: It barely cost me anything in this years RetailEdge Spring Deal Bundle.
Frequent Driver and BIOS updates on Intel's site.
Customer service was at least friendly to me.

Cons: Strange SATA II header placement
Dead Audio Chipset OOTB.
Intel has the worst RMA process on the planet.
Terrible BIOS, minimum settings adjustment.
No Boot Selection hotkey at boot. Always stuck to BIOS boot order.
Cryptic Letter/Number codes at boot.

Other Thoughts: Got this board with this years retail edge bundle. Hooked it all together, fired it up, installed windows. Everything seemed to work fine. No Audio...

Checked BIOS to see if it was enabled, yep. Updated to latest BIOS, Chipset and Audio drivers. No audio.

Tried in Windows XP, Vista and 7. Doesn't even realize theres an audio card on the board.

Call intel to RMA, take me through standard questions. Approve RMA. No Prepaid shipping label, only way to cross ship new board is with a hold on your debit card of full retail cost of board. Have to have PNP Processor Cap or RMA denied immediately. So after digging through trash found that part. Intel will have my board in 2 days, then ship me a new one after they verify the board is bad.

I will never own another Intel board, if this one hadn't been basically free I'd be even more annoyed.

Pros: Was Easy to setup works great

Cons: Don't like Bois startup takes a lot more time then my other systems.

Other Thoughts: Win7 RC1 works great on this board. Don't care for Vista still slow. Wish they would offer more testing drivers for some programs.

Rating + 3 Installed for a friend...

Pros: Very solid board, very good quality once you get past updating the BIOS

Cons: Needs BIOS flashed before you do anything straight from the box.

Other Thoughts: I have built many PC's and always had smooth sailing, until this board fell into my lap. The worst problem I have ever had building new PC's is getting proper video drivers. I have never had to flash a BIOS before so this was an *interesting* build for me, and frustrating at times. I researched what I could on Intel's website and found that flashing BIOS wasn't so hard, needless to say once I found out that's what I had to do it took 2 minutes to fix. Unfortunately it took me 3 hours of failed POSTs to figure out why the hell it wouldn't boot and take windows so I could install it. Lesson learned though.

As I said though, once you flash BIOS it works perfectly.

I gave it 3 eggs, knocked one off for it's price, and another for having to flash it straight from the box.

Rating + 5 Good basic board for a stupidly fast PC

Pros: Intel Desktop control Center is a very powerful way to overclock without having to reboot incessantly. Initially slow to POST, but careful BIOS editing can speed things up nicely.
BIOS update is painless. Includes lots of right angle SATA cables that gets around the lousy connector placement.

Cons: Not enough memory slots, bad SATA and front fan connector placement, but you knew that already. Make sure your cooling is better than you think you need: this thing can get very hot very fast.

Other Thoughts: IOH fan is irritatingly noisy: I'll be ordering a different 40mm fan. If you want to use Arctic silver on the IOH cooler, do it before you install the board: rear screw brackets aren't glued to the board and will fall off when you remove the cooler.

Rating + 4 Solid board

Pros: Built two identical systems with this board. It's a great board and went together without any problems. bios is nicely organized and fully featured. Upgraded the bios with a non-bootable usb, which was a nice change. The shipping bios recognized a 920 and a 950. The Intel Control Center automatically overclocks the 950 to 3.3GHz and the 920 to 2.9GHz with no noticeable impact on temps or stability. The sound is great for onboard and you can't beat Intel nics.

Cons: I haven't had any problems to date. I agree with previous reviewer that the IOH cooler is flimsy, at best. I would also like to see Intel to start shipping padded I/O shields with their top-shelf boards. Or at least allow us to exchange the t-shirt for one.

Other Thoughts: For those considering crossfire, the proper length crossfire cable was included and is not pictured on newegg. There's also a spec notice sitting on top of the board on bright yellow paper and 24 pt font that reads ram with 1.6v or lower is required. I went with Kingston 6gb triple channel kit at 1.4v and I'm very happy. It's not the fastest and it doesn't have pretty lights, but it's stable.

Rating + 3 Mixed feelings

Pros: Excellent mix of componenets for a workstation class machine. Decent layout. Extra space between the PCIe slots good for dual slot cards. Most DX58 boards seem to have the SATA connections across from the PCIe slots, so longer cards cover them, the straight up design and 90 degree SATA cables actually work better than most other boards that stack the SATA ports and shoot them out the side, which can be a bigger problem with smaller cases. Intel makes some of the best NICs, much better than the integrated Broadcom or Realtek used by other board manufacturers.

Cons: Could have more fan headers. 4 memory slots seems kind of silly, 3 makes more sense and 6 would be better. Hold down on the IOH chipset is very flimsy. The first board I purchased had this retainer broken and had to immeadiately return the board. The replacement board still had a flimsy retainer and the heatsink could eaisly be rocked back and forth on the chipset. That board performed very well, but died after 3 weeks. The supplier was out of Intel boards, so I tried a Gigabyte EX58-UD4P. Which was DOA also! That was replaced by a ASUS P6T Deluxe V2, which has been alive for a week now.

Other Thoughts: Was very surprised to have so much trouble with an Intel board. It has been over 8 yrs since I built an Intel chip machine, and had always found their boards to be rock solid, sometimes at the expense of pizzaz, in the past. I don't OC or do a lot of gaming, but need rock solid workstations for my graphics business, and figured an Intel board would be perfect. Unfortunately at this time, while the Intel i7 CPUs seem to be the way to go, there isn't a clear cut winner for a motherboard to support them. Also don't understand why the DX58 boards are so expensive?

Rating + 2 Kinda flakey

Pros: It's the official Intel mobo, and their engineering is generally second to none. But...

Cons: It's had a minor boot problem since I bought it. Every now and then, it hangs in the boot sequence, displaying code 5A or BA. Generally a reboot would take care of this, but recently it's been happening more often. Over the last few days, I've had to pull the CMOS battery to get it to boot. This works reliably. A board from Intel should not flake out like this, after 6 or 7 months.

Pros: Available PCIe x4 slot even if you use both PCIe x16 slots for SLI video. Genuine Intel NIC. Rear panel eSATA ports. Onboard IEEE-1394. Smart RAM slot placement for better cooling and airflow. No legacy hardware. Good price for given set of features. Braindead simple mild overclocking capabilities.

Cons: 4th RAM slot is effectively useless because no one is going to take the performance hit associated with using it. 6 slots would've been nice but just sticking with 3 would've made more sense than 4. A second NIC would have also been nice. No coax SPDIF. SATA port 3 is impossible to reach with video card installed in first PCIe x16 slot.

Other Thoughts: SATA port 3 is perfectly usable, even with the video card installed, you just need to use the included 90-degree SATA cables to avoid clearance issues. Just make sure you install the SATA cable (and the 3-wire fan connector for your front case fan) *before* installing your video card. Both these connectors will be impossible to reach once the card is installed.

Rating + 4 CORRECTION: RAM Speeds

Pros: See other.

(Rated a 4 as I have to give it a rating. Tried to keep the rating close to the current average rating.)

Cons: Requires 1.5V RAM. NewEgg has the wrong RAM speeds on this board, it only supports up to DDR3 1333.

See other.

Other Thoughts: Please note that the max speed is DDR3 1333 MHz, and requires 1.5 VDC RAM.

Intel's exact specifications for this board's compatible RAM specify the following: (taken exactly from the Technical Specifications)

• 1.5 V DDR3 SDRAM DIMMs
• Three independent memory channels with interleaved mode support
• Unbuffered, single-sided or double-sided DIMMs with the following restriction:
Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization are not supported.
• 16 GB maximum total system memory. Refer to Section 2.1.1 on page 39 for
information on the total amount of addressable memory.
• Minimum total system memory: 1 GB
• Non-ECC DIMMs
• Serial Presence Detect
• DDR3 1333 MHz, DDR3 1066 MHz, and DDR3 800 MHz SDRAM DIMMs
• XMP version 1.2 performance profile support for memory speeds above 1333 MHz

Pros: Great layout for what I wanted to install on it. Comes with SATA cables that have angled connectors on one end which made installing the HDD in my Lian Li PC-7F case easier.

Cons: A BIOS update was needed in order to recognize my hard drive so I could install Windows.

Instructions were not clear if you need to plug in power in either the AUX power ports. I still don't know if it's needed since I didn't plug power into it. I read on other sites it was needed to power the PCI-E slots when using more than one video card or a video card without power cables.

My GTX 260 Core 216 requires two PCI 6 pin power connectors and my ASUS Xonor D2X also needs it's own power cable connector. I plugged power into those two and didn't plug any power cables into the mobo AUX connectors and the PC runs fine. Still haven't found a definite answer if I need it powered or not.

Other Thoughts: After the initial BIOS update situation and still trying to figure out if I still need to plug the AUX power for the mobo, the system runs perfectly.

Rating + 4 Great Board - one quirk

Pros: Stable, fast. great build quality.

Cons: The onboard Intel RAID does not always appears in the boot screen sequence. Normally this is accessed by pressing ctrl-I. I updated the BIOS but to no avail. I expect Intel will come out with another BIOS update that will fix this. Workaround: load the Intel Matrix Storage Solutions software and create the RAID with this. There is no difference. It will take longer since it will replicate data to the other drive(s). Otherwise, creating a RAID with ctrl-I should be done prior to loading the O/S since this will wipe out the drives.

Also, if you use a double-slot wide video card, the PCI slot on the MB is right next to it. The video card I purchased (Sapphire Radeon 4870) has a large, 120mm fan on the side of it. I bought this card because it would be (and is) extremely quiet. However, this configuration puts the fan right against the PCI card, chioking off air flow. If you plan to use a PCI card, buy a video card with a "hamster-wheel" fan at the back of it.

Rating + 3 Normal Intel

Pros: It works

Cons: No way to set memory timing
There is 4 power plugs on it. The four power plugs spread allover and as I have seen in other Intel Motherboards, they are put in a poor place that is hard to reach by a cable.
Driver CD does not include any way to make a RAID floppy (for any OS). Had to download directly from Intel, on another working computer, and copy them to a floppy.
Does not include a paper manual. Intel doesn't need to print a full-fledged manual, but a condensed version should include all pertinent system builder info, in more depth than just a single giant sticker with pinouts on it.

Pros: Great Motherboard, Love the hyperthreading! I used this mobo in a hackintosh build with the 920 i7 cpu and ocz gold 1600 6gb. works very well and is very stable oc to 3.5 ghz. Also made it dual boot with vista x64 still running without any crashing, dont think I've even turned it off actually and had it for about 3 weeks now.

Cons: had to use iATKOS 5i to install osx on it, other osx86 operating systems would not start for some reason, would just restart the system when it started to install. But got that all worked out with iATKOS 5i

Pros: At the start I was a little weary of this board due to the premature bios release. Now, after roughly 6 bios updates, the DX58SO is running PERFECT! Intel has really stepped up and delivered a stable, solid, X58 motherboard that has done nothing but perform to the highest standard.

Cons: I see several complaints/concerns about 4 memory slots and not being able to run 1600Mhz memory.

1) 32bit applications under a 64bit OS can only utilize 2 to 4 gigs of addressable memory. And considering almost 99.8% of the applications out there are 32bit, why would you need anything more than 6 gigs?. I’m sure in some cases (server based functions) or if you have 6 or 8 applications all opened at once, 12 gigs would be utilized in certain processes. But in real world computing, it’s not necessary.

2) The past bios update enabled XMP memory settings. So simply install, boot into the bios memory settings, set to XMP defined and your memory is set. And if for some reason you can’t get the memory at 1600Mhz, it could simply be an incompatibility issue with the memory and consider trying another memory manufacture – it’s not the board.

Other Thoughts: Intel used a variation of the DX58SO motherboard that was the test bed for the Core I7 chip (obviously). During that stage they made several refinements in the chipsets to be used in the final release to the public. They had all the technical specs (as did the other manufactures) but also many months of testing ahead of the competition to ensure a final, stable, well rounded product.

Rating + 4 Solid motherboard

Pros: It's a good motherboard. It has no probs, it doesn't have bells and whistles that I have to ponder over (did someone come up with these over too many shots?). Plain and simple, it gets the job done without all of the hype.

Cons: If this board is made for triple channel memory, why put the fourth slot in there and taunt us with statements that can basically be summed up to this: "Yes, there's a fourth slot, but you'd better not use it!"

INTEL: stupid. Why didn't you just put three more slots in there?

Other Thoughts: None. Except for the head-scratcher on the 4th memory slot, this isn't a bad board. It's thicker, sturdier, meatier... etc., etc., etc. If you want to thrill your friends with a ton of copper tubes that run from point A to point B (and on weekends point C), buy something from one of the other companies. If you want something that works (consistently), buy this board.

Rating + 5 strong product

Pros: - stability
- BIOS is aggressively fixed and updated, faster and more often than any other MB manufacturer by far
- overclocking is easy to get done
- build quality is very high
- other board manufacturers need to take lessons on bios / driver support from Intel

Cons: - overclocking is a little different
- only 4 ram slots

Other Thoughts: I saw some other reviews about
- bios codes flashing in lower right.. that's by design to give a post failure point for ram , video etc....
- bios being bad with shipped board... yeah Intel, on the extreme series esp, will ship with lower level bios to get the product to market, but they fix bios issues like nobodys buisiness... it's system builder 101 to flash the newest bios the first time you turn it on, duh!
- don't end up being an internet whiner... if you download the latest drivers, flash the latest bios, check to make sure the ram is set to right volts and timings, then boot... this thing will go together smooth as silk every time, and those things are just plain common sense

Rating + 1 Great board, but beware BIOS issues.

Pros: Legacy-free, clean looking, decent layout, history of stable, reliable Intel boards.

Cons: Will not run DDR3 1600; BIOS as released to market is junk.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this board as I have had great experiences with past Intel boards (845, 865) - they have always been extremely stable and reliable in the long term, while usually including most high-end features available. However, I have to say that this board seems to have been rushed to market, as its BIOS appears to contain debugging code. The POST takes about 20 seconds with lots of flickering and text in the lower-right hand corner. For such a high-end product, I expected much better of Intel. To top it off, I went through two of these before having to return both in disgust after they experienced the same sorts of problems. They would not run stable for long enough even to install an OS - this is totally unacceptable from Intel and I am disappointed to say the least. I will be moving on to one of the other brands with which I have had a good history, probably ASUS.

Rating + 3 Could be better

Pros: -- Solid, stable motherboard.

-- Onboard RAID supports RAID 10

-- Nice minimalistic design - no useless features.

-- Price isn't too bad

Cons: -- Board doesn't ship with an SLI bridge connector.

-- Only 3 usable (triple channel) ports for RAM. I know 12GB is unnecessary and ridiculous, but your average gamer has no idea. They just want bragging rights.

-- Driver CD does not include any way to make a RAID floppy (for any OS). Had to download infs directly from Intel, on another working computer, and copy them to a floppy.

-- There is a 3-prong connection right next to the lower PCI-E locking bracket, which is easy to stab yourself with when trying to unlock/remove the video card.

-- Doesn't function as advertised. Intel says this board is fully SLI capable (It is, but not out of box). It can't use SLI until you update the BIOS. Not a big deal, but c'mon.

-- Does not include a paper manual. Intel doesn't need to print a full-fledged manual, but a condensed version should include all pertinent system builder info, in more depth than just a single giant sticker with pinouts on it.

Other Thoughts: After all the rigamaroles, this system came together nicely, and is extremely fast. Considering Cost vs. Performance, these specs were a very good deal:

RAID 10 - 500GB (4x 250GB, onboard software RAID)
6GB DDR3 RAM
Dual Geforce 9800GT in SLI Mode
Core i7 920

One of the issues I've had with the x58 chipset is bad support for hardware RAID. I didn't even try it this time around, but I'm betting it's the most compatible x58 board out there for newish RAID cards.

Pros: Board layout is ok, easy to put together

Cons: 1st one failed after 20 minutes, would not boot, acted like BIOs was bad, receovery BIOs failed to correct. CalledIntel, was told the OCZ memory was incompatible as it ran at 1.65v and ther elimit was 1.6. Bought different memory and tried it, no luck. Went and got another DX58SO and CPU from local store. This one lasted 10 minutes, tryed to update bios to support 1660 mem, failed and board did not come back up, Called Intel again and they said the memory now OCZ gold 1333 was incompatible. Went and bought ana ASUS board, came up perfectly with all the original peices. Has been running great for 2 weeks.

Other Thoughts: Have been an avid Intel board builder, not anymore, never did get to the real problem, checked BIOs on second prior to failure, memorywas running at 1.54v well within tolerances. Intel tech support has blinders on

Pros: Rock Solid. Not a single issue or hiccup. Upgraded to latest BIOS when I installed it. Have since then upgraded to the next version of the BIOS - even though I did not need to. Overclocks i7 920 on air easily to 3.5GHz (I did not attempt to go higher).

Cons: Main gripe: Only 3 Triple Channel DIMM Slots (Would have to have 6 like the competition).
Board layout could have been a little better (there are a lot worse out there) but can be easily compensated for with little planning.

Other Thoughts: If you don't want to spend hours jacking with unstable BIOS', poor support, system instability, standing on your head to Overclock, etc. -- get this board!

Pros: runs fine. nice specs. its a motherboard....?

Cons: meh, none that i know of yet. 4 out of 5 eggs because Intels website (at least not that i could find) isnt average user friendly.

As usual, Newegg came thru with flying colors.

Rating + 1 WONT RUN RAM @ 1600mhz

Pros: While this is a great board (which I got for free from intel along with a free i7 920 ;) which features great RAID options, legacy free (which I prefer) and a ton of USB's its a all around great board. However.......

Cons: ........ It will not run the ram @ 1600mhz without BSOD or failing to post. I contacted Intel ony to be informed that it was the i7 chip that was preventing the memory to run at that speed, I call B S! It seems to happen that everytime I get a intel board I have to end up selling it to go with a ASUS or EVGA board. Extremely not happy especially when the board says it will run 1600 and doesnt, false advertising anyone? I was at least able to push the ram to 1340mhz 100% stable but still, if I pay for 1600mhz ram (OCZ Flex EX tri-channel kit) and the board says yes then technically it should work and I wont have to be this mad, no more intel boards for me, even if its free. Also you can not adjust any of your ram timings in the bios, has to be done using their Desktop Control Center utility available on their support site. Seriously I wish Intel would make it right.

Other Thoughts: great all around board if you dont plan on running your ram @ 1600. Intel needs to check themselves before they wreck themselves. Their Desktop Control Center is pretty nifty for adjusting OC settings from within windows, if you havent checked that out then give it a whirl.

Pros: Easy instructions

Cons: Was not compatible with the GeForce 8800GT from my previous system... would recognize it as a Standard VGA adapter under Vista Ultimate 64 but when I installed the drivers it would give a black screen upon reboot until I uninstalled the drivers in safe mode. I finally fixed the problem by using an Nvidia driver from 2007...thats pretty sad.. Intel needs to fix this incompatibility. I wasted 8 hours of my time and it still does not work properly, buyer beware.

Rating + 5 Great no hassle board

Pros: Super easy to setup, no issues, ran Vista 64 with 6GB 1333mhz RAM, 920 processor, handful of HDs in RAID 0. Like the extra 2 external esata ports, run RAID 0 for backup drives. Looks cool.

Cons: Tiny little optional fan over chipset wasn't super quiet, but it's optional and I think mostly for show, so I just removed it.

Other Thoughts: Great value board for features, stable. Bios update seems to fix a lot of early complaints.

Pros: Fast, easy, and stable set-up. I've been really pleased with Intel boards w/ intel CPUs. Comes with good SATA cables that still allow you to run SLi. Nothing but SATA or USB which I feel is a good thing.

Cons: Onboard sound is a little work to figure out. Had trouble getting the sound to work, but after some driver updates and setting changes it was good to go!

Rating + 5 my first intel brand mobo - I LOVE IT

Pros: this is a very nice motherboard. Intel even gives you good overclocking features that work wonderfully.

I love that they give you a sticker for inside the case that shows the layout of the mobo. I have only seen that inside name brand computers like IBM and Dell. Nice touch.

I like the power button right on the mobo. that was handy at one point during install.

Nice layout for what I needed.

I love how i7 motherboards have the memory under the PS. It will be great for cooling the memory.

Cons: I don't think this supports mobo supports SLI, but the X58 chipset does. I think this one is crossfire only, but all other i7 motherboards can do both SLI and crossfire. I don't ever want to have dual nvidia video cards so it wasn't an issue for me.

Other Thoughts: I have a GTX 260 card, which is very long and will cover some sata ports. You need to use the suppied sata cables with the 90 degree connector going to the mobo. That way they can lay flat and the card can go over them.

Rating + 3 Great MB,But a lot of other issue

Pros: MB and others came to me fast from NewEgg.com, same as usual as a loyal newegg.com buyer for the past 8-10 years, spent more 10s of thousands with two of my accounts. I had been very lucky with NewEgg.com all those 8-10 years, I only had 2 RMA. Newegg.com has been a professional.

Cons: This MB has no SP2, One regular PCI, I am running with i7, obviously. Note: This MB needs to run with 64 bits OS for Optimo-Preformance only, and then it will take 2GB Ram per chanel and up. If use 32bits OS this board can ONLY use 1GB Ram per chanel MAX, if use more than 2GB ram per chanel, It will slow down speed VERY Much. Especially on the Post, it takes 10s of minutes to post. plus others. I have bought the winXP prof 32bits by mistake and newegg.com would not honor my replacement for the 64 bits, which it has never been used nor registered. I am heart broken with newegg. I have spent more than anyone buying from Newegg in the past 10 yrs.

Other Thoughts: If you use this MB and obviously the i7 cpu, you must use the 64 bits OS for Optimo-Preformance. Otherwise it will work as fast as the old Pend-4 cpu and MB speed even slower. I am Now only using it on the Vista Ultimate 32 bits. I wanted to set up for a dual OS, but the WinXP Prof I bought from NewEgg is a waste, wasted my $140. I wish someone in Newegg.com can do something with my mistake or clicking mistake on the online purchase order. I have never use other Online PC Vendors but Newegg.com for years. I used to trust Newegg.

Rating + 4 Good board, but not the best

Pros: Excellent performer.

Good customer support

Installation disk automatically installs all necessary drivers in one go

Comes with great documentation, including a sticker with the board layout that you can put inside your case.

Blue/black color finish looks sophisticated and cool, unlike the gaudy color schemes of boards from Taiwanese manufacturers

Cons: Only 4 slots for RAM, almost all other boards have 6. This means that RAM modules in the first three slots are accessed in triple channel mode, but any module last slot will be accessed only in single channel mode.

No IDE, or PS\2 ports. This was not a problem for me, but might be for people reusing IDE hard drives from older computers.

SATA ports placed poorly: A large video card placed in the second PCI-E x16 will block two ports, unless you use right angled connectors.

Other Thoughts: My box was missing the manual for some reason, but I managed to make do with the quick setup poster that was in the box.

I am building another identical PC next week, this time I'm going to get an EVGA 132-BL board that has none of the drawbacks listed above and is only ten bucks more.

Rating + 3 Great, but...

Pros: It can handle up to 12 USB ports, has built-in hidef audio, built in gigabit NIC, plenty of SATA connections, and can take a Core i7. What more needs to be said? Overall this is a great motherboard, but there is one caveat that some folks will consider unacceptable.

Cons: At first, I had 4 sticks of 1600 RAM installed, and the system ran perfectly. But then I had to go and do a BIOS update. After that, the system wouldn't get past POST if any RAM module was in the fourth memory slot. Intel says that the motherboard is built to use 3 sticks of RAM, but that you can make 4 work if you want. I was not able to get all 4 working after the BIOS update, despite more than 25 years experience building and fixing computers. Kinda a major caveat, eh?

Other Thoughts: I like Intel motherboards, and despite the significant con I mentioned above, I will buy Intel motherboards again. BTW, overclocking a CPU is much easier on this MB than on previous MBs from Intel, and I dig using 1600mhz memory.

Pros: This board is great. I put it all together and had ZERO issues after first boot. I have had this board running for two straight days now and no problems yet. I haven't tried to overclock anything, but will read up on it and give it a shot. Straight out of the box, you will not be disappointed.

Cons: Long video cards block SATA ports if you don't use them before installing cards.

Rating + 5 Rock solid with great features

Pros: Stable, comes stock with passive cooling--good for those of us who like quiet systems, integrated audio is of good quality, Toslink port, lots of USB ports, flawless SATA RAID, lots of SATA ports, Intel quality

Cons: No PS/2 ports. No big deal; $24 for a nice Microsoft keyboard and optical mouse from NewEgg. It would be nice to have six DIMM slots rather than four, but I'm really being nitpicky here.

Other Thoughts: This is my third desktop board and it definitely won't be my last. They may not be as overclocker friendly as ASUS or some MSI boards, but they just work. The drivers are well-written and work properly, compatibility issues are...wait...what compatibility issues? I built this to be a gaming system, and I found the integrated HD audio is actually good enough that I'm not going to get a separate sound board for it. System specs:

Intel Core i7 920 CPU @ 2.66GHz
6GB (3x 2GB) 1333MHz Corsair DDR3 SDRAM
XFX Radeon 3870 HD graphics card, PCIe 2.0
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 watt power supply
Two 160GB WD Caviar RE hard drives, RAID 0
Vista 64-bit

If you don't mind sacrificing a few OC options for reliability, I don't see how you could go wrong with this board.

Rating + 5 Excellent adventure

Pros: Intel. Solid. Stable. Lean... minimal legacy stuff, lean BIOS but flexible enough. Excellent Dolby/Sigmatel HD audio. Intel LAN. Stock heatsink and fan are sufficient for normal i7-920 air overclock (thermal paste already applied to heatsink). Quiet fan blows down into board components. 3x2GB DDR3 is plenty for normal desktop. Long HIS Radeon HD 4850 passes SATA 0,1 connectors so these ports are NOT blocked.

Cons: Optional 40mm IOH fan with hydraulic bearing is not as quiet as rest of system. Will replace.

Intel documentation should state that third power connection (Molex OR SATA) for PCIex16 adapter that draws ~75W ***IS NOT REQUIRED*** when that adapter already has its own direct PSU power connection.

Had to solve soft overclock to 3.52GHz with turbo for 1600MHz DRAM while maintaining speed ratios and minimizing volts, temps, and noise.

A hard overclock would disable turbo mode, use default multipliers and increment bclk toward 200, and CPU and QPI volts toward 1.4v and 1.35v max as required to POST. And use non-stock cooling!

Other Thoughts: My excellent adventure:
CASE Lian Li Lancool PC-K7B (cool, quiet, precise; use 2 spare standoffs with screws to clamp MB tray outside IO shield; requires a 12" fan wiring extension)
PSU Corsair CMPSU-550VX (quiet)
MB Intel DX58SO ATX (did not install Marvell eSATA RAID drivers or infrared drivers)
CPU Intel Boxed Core i7-920 (quiet)
RAM Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D (8-8-8-24 1.65v 2T 1600MHz)
VIDEO HIS Radeon HD 4850 1GB IceQ4 H485QS1GP (quiet, vents heat; auto overclocks to 590MHz, I use 575)
HDD Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000HLFS (cool, quiet, FAST)
ODD Samsung Super WriteMaster SH-S223Q
KB Logitech Illuminated Keyboard 920-000914 (very sexy)
MOUSE Logitech RX720 Wireless Laser Mouse (no desktop pod/receiver required)
OS MS Windows Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 OEM (install with BIOS eSATA set to IDE and SATA set to RAID... install Intel Matrix Storage Manager to update RAID driver; disable eSATA for faster boot; see MS KB922976 to revert BIOS to AHCI)

Pros: It works but ...

Cons: Not as advertised.

System:Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz
Intel BOXDX58SO

USB Card/Floppy Reader
6 Seagate 500GB Sata-II NCQ HDs.
Default BIOS setting cause it to run at around 1.6Gig with the memory voltage at 1.54. The computer runs about as well as a chicken with cowhorns glued to its head. A simple attempt at defrag was going on for over forty five minutes unfinished before I gave up. The added software is basically all for an x86 system which amazes me, does Intel think anyone is buying this board to put 2 Gig or less memory on it? The Intel software installs OK with the exception of the critical Intel Desktop Controller software which will only install on Vista and OLDER O/S's. You CAN get the board to run OK by using the Controller software or via tweaking the

Other Thoughts: This motherboard doesn't seem to properly recognize the CORSAIR memory, it wont read it as any faster than 1280Mhz even when mobo voltage is corrected. I bought an Intel for easy setup. If I had wanted a mobo that I had to tweak I would have bought an ASUS, they are the best for OC'ing in my experience.

Rating + 4 Good Mobo so far

Pros: Intel HD audio is a great feature, not needs for an extra audio card. ( for some this maybe a con) More than enuff SATA and USB ports , 2 eSATA ports. ATI Crossfire support. Easy to install even for a neophite builder as myself. Ran BIOS in the first boot. I compared it to the 2 most popular boards in the gamers universe and ended with the DX58SO because I trust Intel architecture when running their own processors. I'm not a gamer but I've learnt a lot from them regarding systems building, so they have my appreciation.

Cons: The metal shield board that comes with this mobo. Had to worked it out a bit to get it in position and to get all the ports clear for easy plug in. Intel support web page is complex to get info from. Have to expend some time to get all the correct info.

Other Thoughts: it is importan to do some research and get the right information and learn about the specs of the product you're buying. Have read some reviews where people show concerns about memory voltage or speed compatability. Intel s states clearly that 1.5 is the standard memory voltage with the maximun being 1.65 V. I'm running my system with 6G Corsair Dominator.

Other complains I've read are about the Sata ports connections when installing the GPU. I've connected 4 SATA cables, 3 HD and a Media Drive with no problems at all. Ofcourse you must connect the SATA cables prior to install the Video Card, so all the ports will be available.

Pros: This was my first built in a long time. Booted up on the first try no issue.

Cons: I bought corsair DDR3 1600 ram that is preset at 1033Mhz. Corsair says to use it at 1600 i need to OC at 1,6V but the Mobo came with a warning not to OC anything over 1,5 so I'm afraid to go forward with that am I'm sure that's where my PC bottlenecks. This makes me wish I paid 50$ more and went with better board for my I7 and would of got 6 ram slots instead of only 4... I guess it's my fault for going cheap on my high end pc but I trusted Intel...

Other Thoughts: Anyways all in all it's not a bad board but it sucks when you just spent 300$ and your not completely satisfied

Pros: Awesome performance. I like how the sata ports are along the side of the board. I also like the external sata ports on the back side of the motherboard.

Cons: Doesn't have ps2 ports, other than that none.

Other Thoughts: Be careful when installing the board, don't plug in the two auxiliary power ports near the PCI slots. Only add the auxiliary power ports if your card(s) need it. I fried my video card, without realizing that. My mistake.

Rating + 4 Fast board, solid build

Pros: Board is built with high quality and attention to detail. Not the fastest thing out there but quite stable. It was a boost of confidence to buy this board and not worry about DOA's or stability issues, but sacrificed some tweaking ability.

Cons: Did have a problem booting into BIOS on first build attempt. Tried normal things (reseating RAM, etc) but still no video, etc. Fans all worked and it seemed to be booting. Then tore completely down and tried again and has worked flawlessly since. Attribute it to a CPU seating issue(?). Anyway, I guess my biggest gripe is 4 mem slots instead of 6. Also, the confusion regarding which memory is compatible. I was worried the 1600 memory I bought may have been my problem, thankfully it wasn't.

Rating + 2 Good for 2 Weeks

Pros: Very fast/powerful system w/Core i7, Intel quality (usually, see below), minimal design - no legacy connectors. Newegg shipped very quickly and handled my RMA very effectively. Awesome customer service from Newegg.

Cons: From the beginning, board would sometimes not boot to BIOS. After 2 weeks of use, board failed to boot at all. Intel technical support was mediocre in trying to troubleshoot the problem. Had no problems with past Intel motherboards; I wonder if this motherboard/BIOS is really ready for prime time.

Other Thoughts: Intel needs to do a better job communicating memory compatibility information for this platform. Some Intel docs say that 1.5V memory is required, others say that 1.65V memory is okay. Most of the mainstream memory is not on Intel's compatibility list. Beware various Newegg combo deals that pair this MB and/or Core i7 with memory that may be incompatible.

Pros: Intel quality and stability. i7 Support, no legacy support.

Cons: No real cons but see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: No legacy support which is nice, minus having no IDE header (came from an old system so data transfer had to go beyond slaving old drive. This could also be avoided if you have an IDE->USB adapter). The fan that comes with the mobo is an optional cooling fan for the IOH and it has Blue LED's which matched my case :). Only odd thing is it has a 4Pin as well as SATA Aux power connectors (the SATA Aux is at the very bottom of the system and made cable management more of a challenge). All in all a good choice for an i7 board :). Fast shipping from newegg as always.

Rating + 4 Nice, but has some quirks

Pros: 1) Good layout for cooling
2) Intel on-board NIC
3) Stable
4) No noises - board is silent even under heavy load
5) Good fan control with support for both 3-pin (voltage control) and 4-pin (PWM control)

Cons: 1) Bad placement and orientation of SATA connectors
2) Bad placement of front fan header
3) Only 4 memory slots
4) No floppy, PS/2, or serial

Other Thoughts: The board requires auxiliary power through a Molex or SATA power connector when more than one power-hungry PCIe card is installed. That's fine, but my board doesn't work when the auxiliary power is connected. I don't know if it's because I don't actually have a second PCIe card, so the motherboard doesn't like it when the auxiliary power is connected, or maybe my board is defective. It seems to work fine other than that, so I'm not worried about it.

Rating + 5 FYI

Pros: This is an installation note for all x58 motherboards..

It is strongly suggested to check with the motherboard manufacturer on tested memory.

Intel QPI specifications for both the 920 and 940 is 133mhz.
Any memory conforming to jdec specs for the i7, and seen by the bios as such, will run at 1066mhz on a 133mhz QPI.

If you can change just the clock speed of the memory in the bios (which will change the memory multiplier) then great..
If not.. you will simply need to change the multiplier manually OR change the QPI bus speed to 166mhz.
It is simply that the anufacturer chose to set base Intel specs, not some fault with the motherboard.

btw.. Changing the QPI clock method will also result in a rather gentle oc of your CPU..

So have fun, and research the issue before negatively rating a product for working exactly as it is supposed to.. =)

Cons: none

Rating + 5 YES it does support DDR1600

Pros: In regards to the post below: I'm using Gskill DDR3 1600 with no problems at all. Yes, I needed to adjust the memory voltage and set the multiplier, but other than that, I'm at a stable 1600MHZ. Also the information you provided is incorrect. If you go to intel's site and view the memory specs for this board, you will clearly see the following (cut and pasted directly from the intel site)

Four 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets
Support for DDR3 1600 MHz?, DDR3 1333 MHz?, DDR3 1066 MHz
Support for up to 16 GB? of system memory

And (as of the November 12th Bios update) Intel released a new fixes/features that support up to DDR3-1866 memory. (cut and pasted from Intel site)

New Fixes/Features:
Added support for DDR3-1866.

Cons: If anyone wants to see the proof: Simply view the Intel links below (shows memory specs, front page)

And for the DDR3-1866 memory support:

Pros: Solid performance. No crashes. Came with 4 sata cables.

Easy to flash bios

Cons: With a long video card GTX260 One of the sata ports is blocked. If you run in sli then 2 ports will be blocked leaving you with only 4 ports open.
There looks to be room on the pcb to move those ports around. Seems like lazy design on intel's part.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if its the MB fault or the ram (Corsair Dominator 3gb DDR3 1600mhz tri-channel) but MB doesn't detect the correct setting for ram speed in the bios, However there are plenty of manual settings to change this. And still no crashes after upping to the full 1600 mhz.

Rating + 5 Great motherboard.

Pros: STABLE! I bought this motherboard because I was sick of purchasing motherboards that were packed with gimicky features that I didn't need and weren't stable. This motherboard is very fast, stable, and simplistic. It comes with a power button build onto the board which I found very handy.

Cons: With larger video cards, 2 of the SATA ports are blocked (leaving you 4 possibly 5 to work with). This really isn't a problem for me as I only use 3 to begin with. Also, there isn't much clearance between the video card and the PCI slot when using video cards that eat up two slots, but I was still able to install my HT Omega Claro without problems.

Other Thoughts: I love how simple this board is. No b.s. unnecessary heatpipes running all over the board and no ridiculous colors. It is completely passively cooled (but comes with an optional fan if you are overclocking). I am actually only running it with 2x2GB of ddr3 right now and plan to upgrade later, but I was a little concerned with it not working before I put the system together,. It ended up working fine (unlike what I've seen from the reviews of the ASUS board).

Pros: Good layout, Good instructions, and hey, it even came with a free copy of Ghost Recon 2

Cons: O.M.G, it hates having any sort of dvd in it on start up, just hangs (which made it tricky during instalation). Bios also tells me that the mobo can't find hdd before booting into vista normally.

Other Thoughts: The copy of GR2 made up for the crummy bios. Installed from usb drive. Would have goten five if installed from dvd. Performs fine.

Rating + 5 Awesome Board

Pros: Great motherboard layout, [almost] no legacy leftovers, plently of: USB, eSATA, SATA, firewire, et cetera. RAM slots are horizontal at top of board (no interference from graphics card). Great performance, superb stability, and quality construction!

Cons: Only (6) RAM slots, still has a single PCI slot (do not want/need this)...

Other Thoughts: Build includes: i7 920, 6GB of Crucial DDR3-1333, eVGA GTX280, 1TB Seagate hard disk...

Rating + 5 Excellent MoBo... just that...

Pros: Nice layout, comes with an extra chip fan (nice blue light too), easy to use bios. I'ts a very solid board.

Cons: They coulda put a IDE in there for us people that still have DVD-RWs from 5+ years ago... Eh i guess its time to upgrade aniway.
And wouldntve killed them to add 2 more slots for ram to put 2x 3 channel instead of 1x3channel +1 extra ram slot.

Other Thoughts: I love the board. I am using a 3gb (1x3) patriot kit for this one and it works great.... However i did something really stupid. The "HD AUDIO" thing labeled on the case i connected to the wrong friggin connector and fried it. Its ok, i returned it to the store next to me and they replaced it :P I did not tellem what's wrong with it either. I love the stores in california :). I'm only sad i did not get it from newegg, i woulda saved some bucks :P
