Tech Level: high

Rating + 4 Almost flawless

Pros: This board fit the bill perfectly: mATX, onboard graphics that are useful, and HTPC capable.

Cons: Be careful when putting everything together. The holder for the sata2 channel pulled off, but went back on completely. The nodes all over the board do not seem snug and secure. The optical port could be located better.

Other Thoughts: Played UT04 well - as expected. Seems to be stable, and works well. Keep it in rgb, for some odd reason, it started inverting colors in the alt mode. Gave it a 4 because things could have been better made, but would've been a 5 otherwise. A P.S. to newegg, please photograph EVERYTHING that comes with it. Bought an extra sata cable because you only show one cord included, but there were 2.

Rating + 4 Not Perfect

Pros: Optical audio, Nvidia 7050 chipset, 8.1 audio, onboard video, large northbridge heatsink, form factor, 4 memory slots.

Cons: Rec'd minus one working USB port. Not sure if onboard ethernet, firewire, or optical audio works.

Other Thoughts: Quality control. I've been purchasing and receiving a lot of garbage lately. There is really no excuse for the faulty USB port. This is for a HTPC, so 1/4 rear ports won't make much difference, and most likely I won't RMA, but the product still is subpar. I've tested as much as I can test on the board. I only hope when I find use for features such as firewire, and optical audio, that these ports work as well. I'm otherwise satisfied with the board.

Rating + 5 Love it

Pros: I love the HDMI output, and the onboard graphocs. Everything went without a hitch, and I'm running Vista Ultimate through it, and all the drivers were compatible.

Cons: If you have an older HD TV like I do, the lack of s-video out on the onboard graphics is a pain, but I bought a card to fix that.

Other Thoughts: Newegg continues to amaze.

Pros: HDMI output and included HDMI-to-DVI cable, optical audio output. Nearly perfect (see cons) motherboard for a MythTV HTPC.

Cons: No serial port (COM) or header on the motherboard. It makes life a little harder if you have a serial port IR blaster or IR receiver.

Other Thoughts: Using linux kernel 2.6.20+ is needed. I'm using 2.6.22 and when I run lspci I get mostly "unknown" device entries, but it all seems to work. <SHRUG>. If you use the proprietary NVIDIA drivers you'll need version 100.14.11 or higher

Rating + 4 Nice HTPC MoBo

Pros: HDMI & S/PDIF Out are great features when using as a HTPC

Cons: HDMI & S/PDIF are too close together. Had to "modify / trim the cable connectors in order to connect both.

Other Thoughts: It took a bit longer to get the "bugs" out and have optical out. Driver uploads etc.

Pros: Sorry to add another review (don't mean to skew the rating). Mobo is good

Cons: Only thing I had to do was download and install the latest version of the Nvidia chipset driver.. version 163.75. That did the trick and made the board cruise

Rating + 5 Excellent Mobo for HTPC

Pros: Well designed board, that did not require triple jointed fingers to connect cables or CPU. Extra HDMI-DVI cable was a bonus. I primarily wanted a mobo with HDMI to my HDTV. Setup and installation was flawless. Video Audio worked straight out of the setup (did not have to tweak).

Cons: None really. If there was a 2nd onboard LAN it would have been nice. Manual could have been more descriptive with connections (but adequeate).

Other Thoughts: I want to reiterate that this was the perfect mobo for a HTPC if you have a HDTV with HDMI. I got rid of one set of cables with this setup.

Pros: Great feature set
Overclockability

Cons: Bad default settings

Other Thoughts: I was having major stability problems with this board until I did some research and noticed that there is an issue with the default (Auto) settings for DRAM timing and Voltages. Look up the specs for your RAM and be sure to set the DRAM voltage in the Softmenu to its spec, and adjust the DRAM timings manually as well. This has so far solved all stability issues for me.

Rating + 2 not a gaming motherboard

Pros: Lots of USB ports, audio, firewire, hdmi output... worked well until I installed my video card.

Cons: Incompatible with GeForce 8800 GT video card. Even after updating to the latest BIOS (released Dec 07), the motherboard continued to have unacceptable problems.

Other Thoughts: ABit seems to do a lot of things right... but I bought this motherboard so I could have a fairly portable gaming machine. Mission FAILED.

Rating + 4 Decent Board lots of Driver issues

Pros: Built in HDMI plenty of headers for usb and firewire.

Cons: Nvidia Drivers for HDMI

Other Thoughts: I had issues with the HDMI audio stuttering and after going through a lot of drivers, I found that the forceware driver 163.75 finally addressed the issue with it. I'm also having some issues with the board running my Sata HD's in AHCI mode. My drives run faster in IDE mode and excruciatingly slow in AHCI not too sure what the issue is but I will update my review when I find out. Over all its a decent board, aside from the two issues above.
My build was in a NSK2480 amd Brisbane 4000+ Scythe Ninja mini. 2 gb corsair xms2 memory.

Rating + 5 Small but packed with a PUNCH!

Pros: So far everything has been steady. I can't be any happier. Good thing about living in southern cali is I get shipping on the next day. All thanks you EGG!!!

Cons: Digital output is too close to the HDMI output. I had to modify my cable for it to fit.

Other Thoughts: This board will work with any PCI-E 2.0 video card, like 8800GT. Currently running with ATI HD 3850 PCI-E 2.0 and Crysis is very decent. But besure to update the bios using include flash program on the CD because bit does not have their current bios on it's website.

Rating + 3 Great Specs but questionable quality

Pros: It has just about everything you could want in a budget mATX MB. Tons of connectors and nice jack pack. Vista looked beautiful with the onboard video and rated 3+ on the Vista system performance tests (video).

Cons: Maybe a bad lot, but I purchased 2 boards at the same time. The first one was DOA... there was a problem with the PCI slots. The second one only lasted about a week with light use and then it totally died.

Other Thoughts: I DID try that board in another PC with no luck, and putting a new board in fixed the issue, so not sure if it was bad luck or what. AMD X2 4000+, 2GB Wintec DDR2, Vista Premium

Rating + 5 Ecnomical HTPC use

Pros: - Very rich built-in features
- Quiet ( fan-less chipsets )
- optical SPDIF out (Great for real A/V receivers)
- ABIT quality seems back (stable & reliable).
- Low cost

Cons: - Driver supports are not perfect yet (issues like HDMI out with audio; SPDIF out with 5.1 or 7.1)
- Physical space limitation like HDMI and SPDIF ports are very close; Big CPU fan will block DDR2 sockets.

Other Thoughts: Great ABIT quality; Stable; Rich feature set (USB ports, 1394a, HDMI, SPDIF digital audio out; appropriate on board Video chip; SATA sockets...)
I have it over a month now and it works excellently. Great candidate for low budget HTPC build.

Rating + 3 hdmi is terrible

Pros: high quality motherboard
excellent fan control (w/ 4 pin cpu fan)

Cons: hdmi will not work unless monitor/tv is turned on first. This is a showstopper for me.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a fine motherboard except for the hdmi problem. I intend to either junk this motherboard or search for a video card (has to fit in my short case) with just a dvi output.

I'm really getting tired of theese user hostile content protection measures.

Rating + 5 Great Board.

Pros: Manual was good (although Bios reset was wrong). I think you can actually get up to either 8 or 12 USB ports on this board. Well laid out except for front IEEE and Audio connectors.

Great energy saving features on teh bios for keeping fans slow until the temperatures dictate that the fans should blow full speed. This also helps keep noise down.

Cons: Front IEEE and Audio connectors may actually interfere with one of the PCI cards. I had to move my dialup modem to another port for fear of getting into these connectors.

Other Thoughts: Great board.

Large, vertical CPU heatsinks and fans will interfere with first two memory slots. But this is true with most boards.

Rating + 4 HTPC MythTV Fedora7

Pros: This is a very comprehensive board with every major feature you could need. Great for HTPC.

Cons: HDMI too close to optical audio out. I added a new video card as a work around. Aux1 fan not supported by FanEQ, (like CPU and SysFan1). I had to install a separate dongle to throttle the Aux1 fan speed down.

Other Thoughts: Had I known, the HDMI and Optical Audio connector proximity issue would have been a deal-breaker for me.

Rating + 4 Good board.

Pros: Good overclocking options, feature rich, and HDMI!

Cons: Issues with the drivers (See below), 1 dead USB port.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board and played with it for a few days. I had a devil of the time with the Realtek & NVidia HDMI audio drivers. The installation would give a BSOD and caused a few system drivers to fail to load properly. Vista fixed these issues.

It is probably just a unique issue to me, but once that was resolved, this board hasn't hiccupped since. I am assuming that Murphy just happened to be visiting.

Rating + 5 Sweet Board!!!

Pros: The board seems very fast. I like the built-in SATA RAID support and the two aux fan connections. The built-in digital video is a plus. Runs very cool! I also like the micro form factor!

Cons: The digital video lags a bit during gaming, but that could be due to my putting out the High Def by way of converter cable to a non-high def digital monitor. Otherwise, no complaints!

Other Thoughts: It could use an extra firewire connection (beyond the one it has already) just to cover the situation where the case has one plug too (which mine does). That way, you could still install the extra one in the back.

Rating + 5 Nice quiet, everything works

Pros: Great video, great audio, heaps of USB and 1394 ports. Good included software. Everything works great with Mandriva 2008.0: video, net, sensors, cpufreq etc.

Cons: No boot on keyboard press or mouse click. No wake on LAN. I hope the GF 8800GT issue gets worked out soon.

Other Thoughts: With 4G of RAM, a SATA 160G drive and a Brisbane 4800+ a Thermaltake 430W power supply and Mandriva 2008.0 X86_64 the system was drawing 42W idle.

I was able to install XP and Mandriva with an ASUS SATA DVD drive. If the system hangs on install try wiping out the first 1024 cylinders on the HDD.

Rating + 4 8800GT DOES work for this mobo

Pros: *Unlike what another individual may have said, this product does in fact work with the 8800GT - though it required some work on my end.
*ATX Micro - saves me space in my antec 900
*Color - I personally prefer it over the red or yellowy brown colors...

Cons: Regarding the installation of the 8800GT: After going through forums I ended up flashing the 8800GT itself to PCIe 1.1 and had to play around with the monitor settings (changed the onboard video as the secondary monitor on Display Settings)
*Does not boot unless my jumpers are set to Clear CMOS...

Other Thoughts: Haven't used it for too long, but after all the frustration with the video card I can only say that I am relieved and that things are working pretty smoothly.

Rating + 5 Nice Motherboard!

Pros: This board has just about everything. The onboard graphics are above what I expected -- I allocated 256M to video and maxed out all of the settings in WoW, and I can't believe the experience! The G.SKILL RAM I purchased works just fine.

Cons: The SATA connectors are a little fragile. The plug for SATA1 came off the board, I'll need to figure out how to rectify that.

Other Thoughts: I purchased an add-on CPU cooler, which has a 3-prong bracket-clip on the bottom. The onboard CPU socket has only 1 prong, which matches the retail AMD fan. For safety and warranty purposes I stuck with the retail fan, which still keeps it at 41 Celsius.

Rating + 1 8800GT is not supported

Pros: Good feature list. Nice layout.

Cons: Will not support 8800GT boards until ABIT fixes their BIOS. Tried two 8800GT, EVGA and XFX, and both failed as their PCIe 2.0 specifications cause issues with this ABIT bios.

Other Thoughts: Waiting for ABIT to respond to my queries and fix their BIOS. Attempts to reach Abit Tech support are useless. They are either busy or dont return their voice mail calls.

Rating + 4 Great board for my Lanbox

Pros: Installed Vista Ultimate 64 on raid drive with no problem, overclocks decently, good audio and video onboard.

Cons: My geforce 8800GT will not work with it :( Abit is supposedly looking into a bios fix but as of now no go.

Other Thoughts: I tried an asus board before this one that had an ati chipset and it was JUNK with vista 64. This board was great by comparison, everything works as it should. Just wish I could use my awesome 8800gt.

Rating + 3 Not too bad, Not too great

Pros: Lots of inputs and outputs. Bit perfect sound via Toslink SPDIF.

Cons: Onboard graphics lack luster, Some SATA ports don't seem to work properly, SPDIF and HDMI output too close together. Toslink instead of Coaxial.

Other Thoughts: This board has not really lived up to my expectations. I got it for a HTPC and planned to use the onboard graphics for DVD video. Playback is jerky unless you turn off Hardware acceleration so in MCE you need the Pure Video Decoder to be able to do this. I was never able to figure out how to turn it off for the cyberlink decoder. NVidia 7300LE played smooth w/ hardware accel on for comparison.
Also the SATA ports have acted up. My Seagate SATA drive worked fine with the OS but when I tried to add a Samsung HDD later it kept failing during the format. I tried all 3 remaining SATA ports same thing. After the replacement HDD was having the same issues I pulled out an old SATA RAID card and issues were gone. Ate up a PCI slot.
I had to trim the jacket off my HDMI cable to be able to use the SPDIF port.

Pros: Put the pieces together and fired it up. Worked like a charm. No problems with 1 Seagate sata HDD and 1 sata LG DVD burner.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Thinking about putting a 8800GT on this board. Read about some issues with the NON HD version of this mobo not liking pci ex 2.0 cards though they are supposed to be bc. Anyone tried with this mobo?

Rating + 5 Perfect for MythTV

Pros: Just a great board for a MythTV setup. Two Hauppauge PVR-500s fill out the two PCI slots and you still have the two PCI-E (x1 and x16) slots free for expansions.

The best thing this card has going for it from a MythTV standpoint is the onboard NVidia graphics. I bought a similar board from ASUS (ASUS M2A-VM HDMI 690G) and that board's onboard ATI graphics made the system very unstable-- constant crashes.

Cons: The last PCI slot was pretty far down on the board and made it tight to fit my 2nd tuner card into my Antec case (NSK2480).

Yeah, that's the biggest complaint I can think of so far...

Other Thoughts: This may be a slightly skewed review:

After all the headaches that ASUS board gave me it was such a great relief to be able to hook this board up and have Mythbuntu 7.10 up and running in less than an hour.

As stated in an earlier review I had to start the livecd install in safe graphics mode and then install NVidia's drivers but this is now a trivial process under Mythbuntu.

Rating + 5 Very nice budget system

Pros: Worked almost flawlessly out of the box. With the set up below its a great budget machine and even plays WoW at 20-50fps depending upon area. Price it out..its ridiculous what you get for the low $$$

Cons: Do not install the Windows HD Hotfix. If you do and have no sound, uninstall and then install the latest Realtek HD drivers to get your sound to work.

Other Thoughts: System spec: 2GB G.Skill, 150GB WD Raptor, Xion 600W SuperNova, Antect 900...waiting on a 8800GT to finish this machine

Rating + 4 PCI- Express

Pros: Has a lot to offer for such a small price, from many extra ports, to HDMI output, are nice, so if you do not have a card, this has a reasonalby good product for normal computer use.

Cons: The PCI- Ex 16x and the Pci Ex 1x are too close to each other. If you have a bulky card, for a PCI Express card, you will overlap the PCI Ex 1x with the fan.

Other Thoughts: Would be great, if the PCI Express 16 and the X1 were further apart.

Rating + 5 Great motherboard

Pros: HDMI out plus optical audio out, firewire, basically all the connectors you could want

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: HDMI out plus the included HDMI to DVI cable means you are covered no matter what digital inputs your monitor / TV has. Optical out means you can still send the digital audio to your amp even if your TV doesn't provide digital audio outputs. Note that the box does not include an HDMI to HDMI cable, so you'll have to purchase that if you want to connect to an HDMI input. I purchased this for a Linux-based MythTV frontend and have succeeded in setting everything up using Kubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon). Had to do a "safe graphics mode" install and then download the nvidia drivers myself (the chipset on this board is only supported by the most recent nvidia driver). Digital audio over HDMI does not currently work in Linux with the audio chipset on this board. But the optical out should work (haven't tried it yet though).

Pros: Very nice layout. Enclosed set-up instructions are easy to understand even if this is a first MOBO install for someone.

Cons: None for me.

Other Thoughts: Loaded drivers from the enclosed CD and then installed the latest BIOS using the BIOS utility that came on the CD. Running an AMD 5600+ with 2GB of G.SKILL DDR2 800 SDRAM (PC2 6400) Item#:N82E16820231098 on OS Vista with no problems. 5.6 Vista rating. The above memory was recognized on first boot up. I am running a very fast set-up and still using my 350 watt 4 year old ANTEC power supply with this MOBO.

Pros: Really pretty, better than the pictures. BIOS has tons of options. Onboard video plays WoW really well, you can turn all the graphics settings up.

Cons: Included bracket has two firewire ports, but the board only has one connection. Addendum has issues.

Other Thoughts: Azn on box is hot! The box is really good for storing extra stuff. Cool temperatures. So pretty!

Rating + 4 Very nice board, but...

Pros: Everything fit together nicely, did what it should (almost), intuitive setup, great Vista performance, enclosed generous set of cables.

Cons: The only issue, which is critical for me: this board locks up on the BIOS level accessing the SATA DVD drives. I tried latest Plextor and Sony/NEC Optiarc, both locked up the system. Second board behaved exactly same way. Everything works, except SATA DVD. I was sorry to return it. Similarly equipped G**t board seems to be working fine.

Other Thoughts: This is a very nice piece of equipment. If you don't have and don't plan to use SATA DVD, this is a board for you.
A.K.
