Rating + 5 StarTrek Technology

Pros: As stated in a video review (by whom I cant remember) This board is like something straight out of the bridge from startrek...

Seriously - who builds a desktop mobo w/ Built in Wi-Fi??? (and its decent Wi-Fi)

As far as quality this board is excellent - the MASSIVE heat pipes your seeing in the pictures are entierly for real and do a great job (currently running my q6600 at 3.0ghz w/ its stock fan- @ 34-40 C idle - no more than 54 w/ a load...) I was going to go w/ liquid cooling but at this rate the board's builtin heat pipes/sink does a great job...

On top of being a literally cool board - you can use ddr3 on it... I currently have 4gigs of patriot extreme performance ddr3 (1333mhz) ddr3 installed which (although some people seem to think it makes no difference using ddr3 as opposed to dd2) screams... very fast ram and only at the allowance of this board.(again more star trek technology..)

It has two pci-e x16 slots - apparently though im out of characters..this is a great

Cons: THe first one that newegg shipped me was DOA. This however is expected when your dealing with thousands of these boards that all are made up of thousands of things that can go wrong.... it should be expected.

Other Thoughts: Newegg was my saviour on this though - I had to have this mobo for my computer that I was building for my senior project - when i realize it was a dead board i called them and they next day'ed a new one too me for free... just in time to make the presentation that evening... (Ironically the first time i booted it up was at the presentation... I was scared sh*tless that something was going to go wrong. funny story really lol)

THANK YOU NEWEGG!!!

Rating + 5 Great Motherboard

Pros: The board is solid and well crafted. I liked the manual. Everything about the BIOS, built-in HW options, heat sink conduit fans for chips that get hot near the CPU, say PLEASE over clock me! The auto instal of drivers in Vista went smoothly, even through the automatic reboots. I had a series of reboots initially when I put it in the case and found out from Asus tech support that it was the mounting bolts. I called 2 other times. All three calls had me on the phone with a live Asus tech within 1-2 minutes. Even when they escalated me, it took less than 1/2 a minute to switch me over to a live person. This is about my 30th build of a custom computer. I really liked the 6 SATA 3.0 GB slots, the 6 built-in USB with board plug-ins for 4 more, 4 memory slots configurable for dual channel or not, 4 chasis fan plug-ins.

Cons: Came with two 1gb ASUS 1333 DDR3 in the box! not sure if that is standard. I bought it from someone else other than newegg. I had unknowingly bought 2 1bg corsair DDR3 memory cards. Now have 4 gig, except that Vista shows memory as 3326 mb and not 4 gig. one reviewer wrote that they saw 3gb so they were not fully truthful. Well, the bios shows 4gig so I know I put them in right. I guess one does really need to consider 2gb memory cards. I don't mind all that much as the first 2gb were included anyway.

Other Thoughts: I was happy ordering this motherboard but after reading more and more reviews I was getting terrible buyers remorse. I truly thought I had done my homework in getting a board that met my needs for the right price. After getting it up and running and reading hundreds of reviews on other boards, I really think that I made the right choice despite the CONs I found and read from others. I'm not willing to spend another $1000 to get the best. I believe the rig I've made is at about a 8.5 of 10 for what $1000 more could have got me. I'm a server, network, technology infrastructure IT Director and I do DVD video creations, play high end games. I'm happy with this.

Rating + 3 Not a huge fan of this motherboard

Pros: It's got a lot of cool features. I like the fact that it has two NICs. Some people may consider the wifi to be a good feature.

Cons: My 8800 GTS blocks three of the six SATA connections. They include 'L' shaped SATA cables, but those cables block two of the other connectors, so I'm stuck with four connectors for five SATA drives. The included software is poorly designed and buggy. I've had numerous times where all of Asus' download servers are full and I cannot download drivers/patches/etc. That's pretty ridiculous for a modern-day technology company.

Other Thoughts: DDR3 is a pain in the neck to stabilize. Especially, it would seem, when running Vista x64. In retrospect I wish I had purchased a DDR2 Intel board instead.

Rating + 4 Great Mobo

Pros: This is a great midrange motherboard. If you are looking to build either a gaming system or general purpose system, this motherboard will suffice and give you some added features.

Cons: The eSATA does not work. I have searched and found no help, even the solution recommened by an earlier commenter.. getting the drivers from Jmicron site just doesnt work (and yes they are the correct drivers).

ASUS really really messed up here; other than that its a solid board. I am very miffed since I purchased this to use my external SATA drives with.

Other Thoughts: If anyone else has any ideas or fixes please let me know. You can email me at cupycake@mail.com

All help & links are greatly appreciated.

Rating + 1 Horrible board

Pros: None that I can think of.

Cons: I have been building PC's for family and friends for more than a decade. I have used many different boards in the past, after awhile I stuck with the Gigabyte boards because they just normally work without issue.

Well I decided to get an ASUS board this time for my new machine.

What a mistake. This is the worst board I have ever owned. From the start this board has had nothing but problems. First it was the 1333 ram had to be only two different vendors. Finally a new bios upgrade came out to make it work correctly with the other vendors. Next if you upgrade the bios when other problems exist "IDE issues" etc... the motherboard locks up and you need to go through a whole process of tearing the system apart and clearing the Cmos.

What a joke.

Expensive board, horrible results.

Back to Gigabyte.

Pros: Excellent features for the price and age of the board. DDR3. ASUS makes good stuff.

Cons: WiFi is only wireless-b and not at least wireless-g. No PCIe 2.0, but the board is a little older.

Other Thoughts: After solving a CPU/HSF seating problem that caused the board to shut down after a few seconds, I flashed the BIOS with a thumb drive with no problem. The board recognized both sticks of 1 GB OCZ Gold DDR3 1066 memory. Q6600 quad core was recognized immediately as well. The motherboard is an excellent buy for the money. I have not tried any overclocking-yet.

Rating + 4 P5k3 Deluxe Wifi

Pros: Great Board Runs my q6600 2.4ghz at 3.35ghz 372x9 with some voltage mods. Runs all corsairs XMS3 1333 Memory and DHX series. Updated a bois for first time and was a BREEEEEZE! I dont know about other people but the cheesy looking wifi antenna improved my signal 500%

Cons: Not the Greatest Overclocker but 9/10! Asus Overclock program locks computer, System like to reboot at and FSBx higher than 372x9 with q6600 even with 1600mhz rated memory

Other Thoughts: Visiontek 3870

Rating + 5 Great Board!

Pros: This is a solid board at a good price. It runs DDR3 1333 Mhz and supports all the big boy processors out there. For the price you can't beat this! It easily matches up with much more expensive boards for a third of the cost. Overclocking is a breeze with this board.

Cons: Bios didn't recognize my processor initially but it was a quick fix. Built in Wi-fi card and program leave much to be desired! You might as well move your computer right next to the router. I had to buy another PCI card adapter to get internet and Vista runs that just fine without the added Wi-Fi program. Overclocking utility consistently locks the computer up. You're better off using the Bios for that.

Other Thoughts: Running a Q9450 at 3.6 Ghz along side of DDR3 1333 RAM on this board. Nice!

Rating + 5 Excellent Motherboard Value

Pros: Fast, DDR3, WiFi works great, ready for expansion into the future. Great motherboard. Easy to flash BIOS. Many BIOS options. READY TO OVERCLOCK!

Cons: Nothing so far. Had to flash the BIOS in order to get the processor to work at capacity (3ghz Duo 45nm) but that was very easy and without any trouble. Used a flash drive for it.

Other Thoughts: Great value for a great board. The WiFi works excellent.

Rating + 5 Excellent Board So Far

Pros: Have been running this board for about 7 months with no problems. Purchased from NewEgg bundled with 2gb 1333Mhz RAM, running 3GHz E6850, Seagate SATA Drives in AHCI mode, SATA & PATA DVD and 2 Seagate FreeAgent Pro drives on eSATA. No problems. Caution eSATA users to be sure to preload JMicron AHCI drivers for eSATA plug & play. Running XP Pro - heard there is still driver support issues under Vista.

Cons: Only weirdness seen is on removal of AC standby power - board will cause 1st boot afterwards to boot as though it loses setup - but setup is not lost - simply enter setup & exit and all is fine. Not a big issue. Manual lacking in a few spots for unexperienced builders.

Other Thoughts: Board is an excellent performer when setup properly. Did have to update to latest BIOS (at the time of build was v0810). Also went to JMicron site to get latest drivers for their controller.

Rating + 5 High Performance Over clocked

Pros: The board is well made and directions are quite good. Presales support was excellent and so was Asus' willingness to help post-sale with OCz memory configuration. Performance is superb. Feature rich board.

Cons: Stay with supported memory - we didn't but will next time. Asus didn't know much about OCz Reaper DDR3 and it took nearly three days to get help from OCz and even then in the end we had to figure it out.

Other Thoughts: We purchased several - we are not gamers - we are professional photographers who work in raw (digital equivslent of a negative). Speed and performance are very important to us. We did nt wish to spend what Alienware and Dell wanted.

Rating + 5 Fantastic MB

Pros: This MB is made for the future. Has all the excellent parameters that you want for now and the future. (Newer Processors, 45nm, wireless, SATA. EIDE, external SATA etc.)

Cons: The only possible con would be that the SATA ports are directly in back of and in line with the PCIe x 16 slot. Using any very long garphics cards (like mine, EVGA 8800GT)the end of the graphics card covers up SATA port number one. NO problem though, there are 5 other SATA ports available for use.

Other Thoughts: The BIOS version that comes with the MB is very old and will not work with some of the newer processors (Intel Core 2 duo or quad). So by all means use the EASY FLASH 2 utility in the existing BIOS and download the newest BIOS from Asus (ver. 0910) This is a zip file but after extracting the files, it is to large to fit on a 1.44 Mb floppy, so burn it on a CD. then use that cd to point to when doing the upgrade to the new BIOS. Simple and works great.

Rating + 5 Very pleased

Pros: Lots of features! Internal RAID, external Raid(0,1,5,10), WiFi, easily over clocks Interl Q6600 to 3.2GHz. Could go higher, but that is good for now. Plenty of cables. Lots of features. 110/100/1000 Ethernet ports. Both can test for problem cables and tell you the distance down the cable the problem is! Of all the ASUS MB I have bought, this is the best by far. Lots of fan connectors on MB!
I would buy it again.

Cons: Not cheap. Raid5 - on a 3 drive set, if you lose a drive and install a new one, but BEFORE bringing it into the set, you want to run SeaTools, you cannot because the new drive is not seen as a stand alone drive... I will be getting an external case to do it... Documentation does not match Raid5 and other parts at all or very well. Need to document some of the BIOS features (looks like new ones).

Other Thoughts: Once fan is install, it can be hard to get it lined up with rear face plate and pieces of face plate getting in the way. Not a big deal, just some thinking ahead.

Rating + 5 Perfection= ASUS

Pros: Easy instalation. Booted right up on the first try. Easy overclocking and very stable. Due to the number of people writing about their wireless internet signal being weak I decided not to use the antana that comes with the MOBO. I have an excellent signal strength and have not lost it yet.

Cons: PCIE X16 is to close to the other PCI slots making 1 or 2 of them impossible to use.

Other Thoughts: I will try out the stock antana on the wireless to see if everyone is full of the good stuff. As of right now this mobo is perfect.

Rating + 1 Bad Board

Pros: Board looks great! I was very relieved to see that my Termaltake CL-P0401 cooler fit nicely in it. Looked very impressive. Liked the ablilty to set and load my own profiles.
Lots of goodies included: screws, cables, adapter cables, cooling fan.

Cons: Could not install a O/S (Linux or XP). Board wouldn't hold BIOS settings. Stopped working to the point I had to reset the CMOS. I ruled out any other components by using known working components. I had to go to my RAM's manufacture and the only mobo they had listed was this one that had to have the RAM settings manually set (OCZ3P13332GK.

I hope this was just a buggy board. Ive always used ASUS boards and never had this many problems.

Other Thoughts: Called newegg. I got very fast customer service, a refund and a RMA all under 5 minutes. I was completely shocked. I was expecting at least a 45 minute call having to argue with a representative to get a refund. This is my first item I ever had to return to newegg. Very impressed with newegg customer support.

Rating + 5 Great MB and OC

Pros: Easy install, setup and software tools provided. Just finished a 3 week run at 100% cpu (that's 100% on each cpu) on a Core2 Quad Q6600 with OC at 3.2MHz, FSB at 1403 and the best of all - the CPU never ran over 45 degC nor the MB above 24 degC (room temp is held at 20 degC).

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: System is: ASUS P5K3 Deluxe, Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 GO w/Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler w/1 120mm variable speed fan, 2 GB Corsair DDR3 1333 Mem w/Corsair CMXAF1 fan, 2 - ASUS EAH2600XT Video Boards w/crossfire activated, ABS Tagan 800W PS, 6 - WD Caviar RE2 500GB Drives (5 in a RAID 5 Config and 1 standby) housed in 2 Cooler Master 4 in 3 device module w/120mm fans, 1 WD 160GB Drive for OS (XP Pro SP2), all housed in a Cooler Master CM Stacker STC-T01full tower case w/the Cooler Master scroll fan on high and 3 exhaust fans. Even with the 8 fans running the setup is quiet enough so that I enjoy music from my desktop speakers on low volume.

Rating + 5 Outstanding board

Pros: I just finished putting my computer together yesterday, and it started, booted, and loaded Windows XP and all of the drivers without a hitch. This is only my second build (my first was about ten years ago and made me swear off of building until now). I can't believe how easy it went. Loaded my racing games (GTR-2, GT Legends, Nascar 2003, and Race 07 whitch wouldn't even run on my Dell Dimentionless), and they are running super frame rates. Runs fairly cool, haven't seen temp. above 35 degrees yet.

Cons: Very touchy to static with a aluminum case.

Other Thoughts: My build; Apevia X-Jupiter G Type full tower case, P5K3 Deluxe motherboard, Corsair HX620W power supply Intel Q6600 2.4GHz CPU, one Sapphire HD3850 512M video card, Western Digital 16M SATA2 750G hard drive, two 1G Corsair memory cards and a Rosewill RCX-Z300 CPU cooler.

Rating + 1 Very Poor Customer Service!

Pros: Great board, nice layout, and decent clocker for the most part! The only reason I'm rating it "Very Poor" is because of the customer service (explained below)! Thanks goodness newegg's customer service is amazing, otherwise most of us would be in trouble!

Cons: Jenniferny, I had the exact same experience as you! I was blown away because I spent an hour filling out their stupid "Technical Inquiry" form and describing my problem. I then waiting 3 days for a reply. The reply had absolutly nothing to do with my problem. There is no way that Asus Customer Service even read my "Technical Inquirey", couldn't believe it!

Other Thoughts: I then wrote another "Technical Inquiry" explaining of my reply had nothing to do with my problem (spent another hour doing it). Well after waiting another 2 days I got another message from "Tim P" who once again wrote a reply that had nothing to do with my problem what-so-ever! I'm pretty sure their just automated replies they sent out at random! To bad for them!

Rating + 4 ASUS Tech Support is TERRIBLE!!!

Pros: Great Specs. Supports DDR3. Very Well Built. Loaded with advanced features. Plenty of accessories are included along with great overclocking software. Even without the antenna attached it picked up my wireless network at full strength.

Cons: ASUS Tech support is one the worst that I have ever dealt with. To submit a tech support request you are required to provide a lot of information about your system & the issue at hand. When I finally received a response the tech it was a request to provide information that was included with the initial tech support request. THE TECH DID NOT EVEN READ WHAT WAS IN THE REQUEST FOR TECH SUPPORT ASSISTANCE!! In the end not one thing the tech suggested did anything to fix the problem. Their final advice- you could always request an RMA #. Newegg's order processing is as always a little on the slow side. It is up to the end user to check the ASUS website REGULARLY for updates to the software. The first thing that you MUST do is to update the BIOS, & then update all of the software & drivers that are included as they are dated & make sure that you stay on top of keeping them updated to the newest releases. My system would not even boot until the BIOS was updated!!

Other Thoughts: In general I like the board. It is an overclocking dream. It runs an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz Processor at 3.4 GHz all day long with no stability or heat issues AT ALL! I have had it up to 3.75GHz with absolutely no stability issues, but it was getting a little warm. Anyone that buys this board, make sure that you stay on top of keeping the BIOS, and all of the software and drivers that are included updated to the newest releases as many of the boards present (and probably future) idiosyncrasies are related to the included software. As ASUS finds the next problem they release an update to fix the problem. One of the issues is that any problem you are having with the board could in reality be an issue that has not been dealt with by the previous updates and because their Tech Support is so bad you will never know if that is the problem. The issue I had was fixed in a future software update.

Pros: Easy to install, and the instructions are quite clear on what to use and not to use for memory and as peripherals. If not, a visit to the website works. WiFi is a bit of an overkill if you don't need it, but it does work well. DDR 3 MEM from Corsair was a great recommended choice.

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: WiFi is not really necessary, but may be desired by many.

Rating + 4 Update from my last review

Pros: Fast, lots of features, latest tech, decent layout.

Cons: Wi-Fi is weak, Audio is difficult, initial set-up can be touchy, wont accept 4 1GB sticks of ram only 3. If you want 4GB's need to use 2x2GB sticks

Other Thoughts: Finially got this thing up and running with all hardware installed.
CPU: QX6850; RAM 3x1GB DDR3; BFG 8800GTX; 4x 150GB WD 10,000RPM SATA HDDs, ASUS SATA DVD, Lite ON SATA DVD-RW, 1100w ABS PSU.
It still seems to be very touchy, if you tickle it's chin and rub it's belly it works just fine but this board is fickle, everything needs to be perfect and up to date, it really has no room for errors and still has some bizarre fetishes (RAM for instance). I'm still fussing with the audio, I hate Sound Max, especially as a multimedia dev.
The Wi-Fi is weak, not terrible, but probably not what you're used too, get a Linksys Wireless G or something similar you'll get much better signal.
As I've mentioned it's a touchy Mobo but it's stable now and seems to be happy, some of my fellow hobbyists may have difficulties while more advanced dev's will probably get it running smooth.

Rating + 2 Bios Issues

Pros: Many built on features. 1333mhz FSB.

Cons: DO NOT USE THE ASUS UTILITY TO UPGRADE THE BIOS. All over Asus's forums about how this utility kills their motherboards and it is irreversible. You can upgrade the BIOS through the BIOS itself. I went through 2 of these motherboards due to this issue. Course, found out this was the reason after killing my 2nd motherboard and having the same issue. Board works fine until you reboot the system. You have to clear the BIOS and reset to defaults in order to get your system up. You would think Asus would stop using the utility since it kills their boards???

Other Thoughts: I went to an Intel motherboard instead since I have had nothing but good stuff from them. They just didn't have a 1333mhz board that supports DDR3 at the time I purchased this one. Taught me patience when sticking to a brand that works.

Pros: NONE

Cons: THIS MOTHERBOARD SERIES IS VERY TOUCHY. AS FOR ME I WENT THROUGH 2 IN TWO WEEKS, BOTH WITH THE SAME PROBLEM - ONCE THE SYSTEM BOOTS INTO WINDOWS ALL PHERIPHIALS GO DEAD.! NO USB, NO P/2, NO LAN NOTHING!~!!!! SO JUST BE FOREWARNED.

Other Thoughts: TALKED TO ASUS, THEY COULD'NT GET IT TO WORK EITHER - WAS COMPLEATLY STUCK

Rating + 4 Great Motherboard

Pros: Great OC'er. Easy to use BIOS. Plenty of SATA ports also. Super fast with DDR3 mem. Only cons is below...

Cons: Has 2 PCI-E 16 slots, but only one runs X16, the other is x4 or x1. This means you can run crossfire (2 video cards) but you wont get the full potential form the cards.

Other Thoughts: Great motherbaord, but if you are looking to crossfire your videocards, i'd look to a x38 chipset with 2 PCI-E slots which run at x16.

Rating + 4 So far so good

Pros: Latest tech, nice features.

Cons: Price, super sharp heat sink fins, odd layout (SATA ports are right behind the PCI-e 1 port, with the size of todays Video cards you'd think newer boards would consider this, though all SATA's are still accessible it's tight), a bit touchy.

Other Thoughts: At first the board was very unstable. Posted, started to format, then wouldn't post. After a few tries I couldn't get a post at all, though it powered up fine.
After some research, found that the board is unstable with 4 sticks of 1GB Ram. removed one stick, system seems to be stable and posts every time.
Freezer 7 owners will need to slighty mod the fan casing (shaved off a corner) to get the sink to seat correctly.

Rating + 5 Great motherboard

Pros: Excellent motherboard. Although it did not recognize my processor right away, I just had to flash the bios to the most recent version using a simple usb flash drive. Other than that there haven't been any problems at all. Wireless works great, system overclocks -- although I think i need some faster ram because it is not stable over 1400mhz.

Cons: Need to update bios at first

Other Thoughts: Great board. Would recommend to anyone.

Pros: Quick, easy set-up & booted perfectly on first attempt. Built w/Q6600, 2gb GSkill DDR3, 2x500gb wds, pcie x-fi sound, ati 2600pro on vista 32bit os. Only my 2nd PC to build, but setting up things like RAID1 and a few updates (SM Bus Controller) were a snap.

Cons: None- stable

I think fan software has some bugs, as it repeats that one case fan is failing (when it's not). Other then that, everythign is smooth!

Other Thoughts: Purchased from Newegg.

Rating + 2 Worst Motherboard I've ever seen

Pros: I'm still trying to find one.

Cons: The first board didn't boot up with a HIS ATI Radeon 512MB DDR3. Assus Tech. Support sent me another one 2 weeks later. After the system has being turned off for more than 5 hours it hangs out when you turn it on. You have to manually turn it back off and on to get an AI Overclocking Failed message. The nicest thing is that I'm not overclocking the pc. Don't count on Asus Tech. Support. If you build your own computers you know more than them, no ofense and the engineers are at Taiwan. Asus must recall this motherboard and exchange it for an equivalent one that works. Newegg please, take it out from your site.

Other Thoughts: If you have that money to spend on a good latest technology motherboard, believe me, this is not the one.

Rating + 2 Not a fan!

Pros: Can handle fast ram
Has a very fast FSB

Cons: Unreliable

Other Thoughts: I purchased this back in June 2006. It ran for 5 weeks and then died (just long enough to go past the Newegg warranty). It took Asus two weeks to send me a new MB, even though I overnighted the old one to them. This week, the replacement board died in the same manner as the first one. It will not even post to bios. I did not upgrade the bios or overclock the board, so this is 2 of 2 that have failed under normal usage. I used to buy nothing but Asus MB & video cards and while I currently have an Asus 8800GTX video card that I'm pleased with, I think that I might be done with them as my MB supplier. I am no longer a fan of the Asus MB.

It may just be this particular MB, but 2 of 2 failing is not good odds.

Rating + 4 Wi-Fi more like Wi-cr*p

Pros: Supports DD3 (don't buy this board without first picking out the memory). Cooling system is great. 2 sata ports in the back mean you can just buy a regular HD and use it as an external (save a lot of $). Lots of USB's and a you get a bracket for the back but you wont be able to use it if you want to hook up USB's in the front of your tower. Buy this board without the Wi-Fi

Cons: The Wi-Fi is so F*ing terrible. Worst ever. Wont catch signal where laptop is literally2 feet away through wall. When laptop is 2 feet away it will connect work for a minute then stop, it will say its connected but it wont work. Honestly the Wi-Fi is useless even if you get it to work you have to be in a 10ft radious w/o walls.

Other Thoughts: When I have a baby ill name it Newegg.

Rating + 4 Had my share of problems

Pros: Very fast, supports DDR3, lots of SATA connectors, amazing cooling design, room for expansion, great processor support, it's ASUS :)

Cons: My IDE controller crapped out after about 3 days and I had to RMA it. Newegg is great though, and I had another one in a few days. Now my computer is acting up again and giving me the blue screen of death constantly, but I'm pretty sure it is the RAM this time and not the board.

Other Thoughts: My build: ASUS P5K3 Deluxe, XFX GeForce 7600GT, Core 2 Duo E6850 (Overclocked to 3.53GHz), Corsair DDR3 1333, 2-500Gb HD's, 1-400GB HD, 2-80GB HD's in a RAID 0, Kingwin AS-3000 Liquid Cooling, and tons of the AeroCool AEROFANS-X X-Blaster 80mm case fans.

Pros: This is a must have mb for gamers, it has 1333 fsb , add 1333 processor, memory with a 8800GT VC.

Cons: the layout is a little to be desired if you use a evga 8800GT vc. it covers up 1 pci slot and the next pci slot is close to bottom of vc. Plus it covers up sata port 1. I do not need the pci slots or the sata port 1, so it really not a problem, just be aware.

Pros: Great premium mobo, using a E6750...havent over clocked yet.. DOES NOT support SLI..but it does support crossfire..but who uses that
lots of USB ports, great cooling design! Looks awesome

Cons: Had problems on the first power-up.
it said "Unable to find boot device" well i finally figured out that you cant use two IDE devices at the same time so i had to buy a SATA drive and ditch all my data...
WIFI antenna only gets up to 54mbps...but i knew that already

Other Thoughts: As long as you have the cash and a SATA hard drive..this motherboard is the answer for enthusiasts.

Rating + 5 Terrific Motherboard

Pros: This isn't my first ASUS motherboard, and definately not my last. Took my time to set up the new computer and I believe it payed off, haven't had a problem with anything yet. Boot up the first time with only a cpu uCode loading error; however the system ignores it and continues loading anyways. I believe it is just a BIOS related problem and plan to update it. Other than that, works great and runs stable.
Supports DDR3 and offers a lot of great overclocking features, definately a good buy.

Cons: cpu uCode loading error? As far as ASUS forums go, it is a BIOS issue where the motherboard may not support certain CPUs. If that's the case and my CPU isn't supported I am not sure what that could really mean; my machine still boots and I haven't recieved any other errors yet.

Other Thoughts: For people who complain about this motherboard, I wouldn't complain because you're having software related issues or you are tyring to Overclock your machine and probably don't really know what you are doing. Also, make sure you install the motherboard correctly so you're not shorting it out.

Pros: This Motherboard is great. It is a very stable overclocker. Running e6600 @ 3.1ghz vcore 1.22 Well below the stock 1.35. (Although its probably just a good cpu chip the motherboard is very stable with it). The Chip looks very well built. Been with it for 4 months.

Cons: DDR3 is expensive. lol Its a hefty price.

Other Thoughts: I almost fried it by not putting the gold pins under it to connect it to the case. However its so well built that it immediately shut down on its own without frying the circuits/components. Great Product.

Pros: I purchased it last about 2 months ago. This motherboard is the worst I had ever purchased from Newegg. I had intel 6850 and DDR3 Ram, I planned to set up really good PC with expensive price but this is the worst mistake.

Cons: I have to upgrade BIOS right after I had set up my PC. Over Clock is not working and system freeze. I have windows Vista installed, and the system is really unstable. The software come with motherboards has a lot of junk programs or useless.

Other Thoughts: I won't recommand anyone to buy this Mother board. Wait for a better one.

Pros: Unlimited OC options! I got my q6600 running air-cooled and stable at 3.5ghz. (It only makes sense to have ram that plays well with higher FSB too)

Cons: mobo's wifi and vista don't play well with each other. DDR3 is expensive, but that's what you get when you are dealing with new technology.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard will be obsolete as soon as PCI-e has dual 16x speeds. The newer model with draft n looks tempting, since my laptop is draft-n capable. Just need to make sure chipsets match!

Rating + 2 nothing works w/ Win XP or Linux

Pros: Since it simply doesn't work I can't really write anything positive

Cons: Apparently there are no or limited drivers for Win-XP 32 bit. So far can't get any of the Networks to work e.g. can't cxt to the internet. Also it lost the CD-rom (I only have an IDE Cd-rom) attached as slave.

Asus tech support suggested updating drivers but their website seems to only list vista drivers.

Under Linux-64 (RHEL v.5) nothing works: get black screen of death (e.g. no gui).

Thus don't really care about over clocking or overheating since can't even get basic MB functions up.

Other Thoughts: Does apparently have some Linux drivers so shouldn't be all that bad. Still if it ran it'd be a lot better

Pros: WiFi, DDR3 Dual gigabit, tons of SATA and USB ports, the heatpipes and fins are a nice touch.

Cons: I have a system with this motherboard and a Dell sitting side-by-side, and even though this system is about twice as powerful, it takes five times as long just to get through the BIOS sequence.
It also didn't detect my DDR3 frequency correctly, had to specify it manually in BIOS, which is easy enough.
Some CPU HSFs may not be compatible, see below.
Aside from these minor annoyances, no major flaws yet.

Other Thoughts: I didn't read the reviews stating the Freezer 7 Pro was incompatible with this board until after I made the purchase... Fitting it is supposedly as simple as bending a few of the fins, but my OCD would never let me do that, so I'm using my QX6850's stock fan for now. No matter, as even while running the fan at a quiet speed, the CPU stays down at a nice cool 29C.

Rating + 5 Wow Wow Wow

Pros: ASUS Solid as usual.
Wifi works great.
OC Tweaks are easy as usual.
5.7 Vista Rating. Would have been 5.9 but I opted for a Seagate 500gb drive instead of a Raptor.
System Temps Hover around 95 F with stock cooling.

Cons: Not really cons, just goofy.
Don't install all system drivers "at once", do it one at a time.
The IDE location is a bit odd. Had to drape the IDE cable up to an IDE CD/DVD Drive. Will cleanup by replacing with SATA CD/DVD Drive. Asus Probe incorrectly reports CPU temp.

Other Thoughts: Vista 64 install. Asus P5K3 / 6850 / 2gb Corsair / Asus 8800GTS / SG 500GB (straight SATA, no RAID) / CM 750W/ CM Centurion / Rosewill card reader / LG CD/DVD.
Ordered 11/06/07 received and built 11/07/07.

New Egg Rocks.

Don't plug in the USB connector on your card readers (any card reader) until all system devices are installed.

Should be an easy install for any intermediate builder. Read the manual carefully.

Rating + 5 Asus rocks

Pros: This board rocks, the whiners can say all they want about the cost of ddr3, but it blows away ddr2. Had to update bios to take the qx6850. Very stable, even at ridiculous oc settings. Ai overclocking works pretty slick, and saves on cpu heat when you aren't working it.

Cons: Has issues with qx6700 processor, runs pretty hot, so went to qx6850- no problems. Occasionally will boot with overclocking failed message, usually after a program install. Boot once w/o overclocking, and then switch settings back after sofware is setup.

Other Thoughts: Asus p5k3 deluxe wifi, 4gb corsair ddr3 1333, qx6850, ATI HD2900xt gpu, Viewsonic vp231wp HD lcd, Zalman cpns9500, Xion 800w Supernova psu, 1.2tb of Seagate SATA 7200 barracudas in raid0+1, Sunbeam uv blue acrylic case, 4 120mm + 1 80mm Silverstone cooling fans, Windows XP-64x.

Rating + 2 Cheesy overclocking, bad firmware.

Pros: Easy overclocking.

Cons: But overclocking does not work properly. It's either the board or newest ATI 0604 Bios. Turned off C1E support; overclock failed. Turned off Intel SpeedStep Technology, overclock failed. Reset to default, increased CPU FSB by 5, Overclock failed.

Funny thing is it boots right 4 out of 5 times. Another reboot after the oc failed message and it boots normally.

Also, don't count on Wake-On-Lan Besides the "Lan Boot Rom" which does nothing you won't find a WOL setting.

Other Thoughts: ASUS is all I know, never had any other mobo. Now I am sad, and for the first time in my life, I've bought an EVGA 680i mobo to replace this one. I'll see how that goes...

Pros: This was my first build, but everything went very smooth. The mboard was easy to install and looks great. Everything was easy to find and I like the copper pipe to cool things off because I bought a liquid cooling system. Oh and it has DDR3 support. Very nice.

Rating + 3 Think twice if you want RAID

Pros: quad-core capable and lots of ports

Cons: RAID is not all it is cracked up to be and, comparing it to other motherboard prices, is what brings the cost of it up compared to related mobos. Firstly, the RAID is SOFTWARE RAID. Secondly, the RAID is very unreliable. I have reloaded this machine 3 times in the three weeks I had this motherboard (Just RMA's today). RAID just decided to break on it's own (RAID-5) and was unrecoverable through any utility! We use RAID-5 for two things, performance(which you cant get with software raid anyhow) and redundancy (which doesnt work obviously).

Other Thoughts: DDR3 is new and cutting edge but it is certainly not worth the price right now....latency is really high on ddr3 modules that are available and, for the same cost, you can double very nice ddr2 in capacity.

Pros: This motherboard is absolutely awesome. At first I didn't want to revert from a dual proc to a single, but with the processors that this board can support, its actually an upgrade from the dual xeons that I was running before. The fsb and ddr3 of this motherboard is just awesome and the option for up to 10 SATA drives is great. With the built in wireless (an antenna comes with the motherboard), connecting to a network is easier now than it was ever for my setup.

It also looks awesome when a large copper heatsink is put on the processor.

Cons: ZERO

Other Thoughts: This board is capable of so much, I could spend another $3k on parts and still not max out this board's potential.

Rating + 5 Motherboard of the future? Yes.

Pros: Probably one of the most innovative motherboards that is on the market. The stack cool technology, the DDR3 support and the 2gbit wired and 1gbit wireless network cards (not sure what to do with all of them) make this motherboard extremely versatile. Did I mention the ability to overclock anything?

Cons: The biggest issue I have had was the fact that I had to update the bios right from the start as it would not recognize the Q6600 cpuid. The update software that is installed on the board and that you can access from the boot sequence is great and I had no issues using my USB drive to get the latest ROM installed.

Other Thoughts: If you want to try out the DDR3 (which is a bit pricey at the moment) and you want to have the baddest rig under your desk... this motherboard is the way to go. I do want to stress the fact that I had no issues at all with Patriot 1333mhz DDR3 modules. It detected it without any issues and runs amazingly. Not sure why Asus included a wi-fi antenna which is a bit annoying to place correctly on the desk due to its "springy" cable.

My system specifications: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2gb Patriot DDR3 @ 1333mhz, Monsoon II Cooling unit, EVGA 8800Ultra Superclocked edition, X-Fi Fat4lity Professional Series sound card, Raptor 150gb drive, Antec 900 case, 2x LiteOn DVD/CD drives, 750w CoolerMaster PSU.

Cons: every time i hit the power button the system powers up, then turns off in 2 seconds, then again turns on and boots, kind of bothers me and i dont know how to fix that.

Other Thoughts: Sata is kind of close to the secondary pci-express card.also if your doing cross fire with two 2900xt's the ide will be a REALLY tight fit

Rating + 4 Mostly Good

Pros: Heat Sinks on the MB, fit well in Antec P190, BIOS updates were not difficult to find online.

Cons: Heat Sinks on the MB contact the Freezer 7 HS and force you to bend the Freezer 7 HS's a little and mount the Arctic fan missing one HS fin. Didn't effect the cooling, but kind of a pain. PC Probe II can't read the CPU temps correctly because of the new chipset. BIOS is correct, but PC Probe II isn't worth a flip.

Other Thoughts: All and all it is a good board. 1 EVGA 8800 Ultra fit in the primary PCI-e slot, 2 would fit, but it will leave you really no room for anything else.

Rating + 5 MOBO erroneously dead!

Pros: Excellent MOBO. Considering the technology that goes into it, a bargain.Solidly built.

Cons: I bought this thang and the first one was DOA. The second one, too. Just wouldn't boot up. Not even post the boot sequence. Tech Support from ASUS was real nasty and DEAD wrong! Said 650W power supply inadequate. ANTEC, although very willing, wasn't much help. They build cases, not electronics so much. But very nice just the same.
Called INTEL assuming it must be the CPU. They guided me through the install process, and we narrowed the problem down to "grounding".
Sho 'nuff, the CPU plate in the ANTEC case was grounding out the MOBO. Took out the plate, and the thing fired up right away. I have had the same problem with other ASUS MOBOs and almost always, it's a grounding problem.

Other Thoughts: This MOBO is the very latest in technology. It will enable you to put together an awsome system.
NEWEGG is great, but it is slipping fast!

Rating + 5 Awesome Board

Pros: Lots of built-in features, saves time and money; RAID works great, no problems here; cannot believe the speed using two Raptors (what load up times?); the flexible wi-fi options are great; the passive cooling not only looks cool, but functional too; native DDR3 1333 support for Intel's newest chips; OC'ing a breeze with features and no need to reset CMOS if pushed too hard - just turn off and on and it takes you back to the BIOS to correct settings. I currently have my E6850 @ 3.375 w/ DDR3 1500MHz! w00t!

Cons: Wi-fi antenna provide is flimsy and corded; prefer a more traditional non-corded antenna; BIOS seems to be everyone's headache and latest may still need further cleanup for all configs.

Other Thoughts: Using latest BIOS rev 0604. Antec 900; Asus P5K3 Deluxe; C2D E6850; Kingston HyperX 2GB DDR3-1375; eVGA 8800GTX 768MB; Raptor 1x36GB, Raptor 2x74GB RAID 0; Antec NeoPower 650 Blue; Thermalright U-120 X w/ Scythe SFF21F 120mm

Rating + 5 Awesome board.

Pros: Incredible board. No issues with it what so ever. Got two 10k rpm raptors in raid 0 with two Radeon HD 2900XT 2GB DDR4 in Crossfire along with a E6850 Core 2 processor. So far it's been flawless...

Cons: DDR3 slots a bit close to the pipe. Not touching, ans so far even in extreme gaming conditions while benchmarking, didn't notice any performance issues.

Other Thoughts: Great board, not the cheapest but comming from an nvidia 680i EVGA, i say this one's a winner :)

Also...

Is DDR3 backward compatible with DDR2?

No. DDR3 memory chips and modules are very different from
DDR2. For example, DDR3 runs at a lower voltage (1.5V) than
DDR2 (1.8V).

Can DDR3 DIMMs be plugged into DDR2 sockets or vice versa?
No. Memory modules (Unbuffered, Registered, Small Outline
DIMMs) have a special “key” or notch in their edge connector.
These keys must align with a key in the memory socket to allow
the module to be inserted. All DDR3 and DDR2 module types are
keyed

Rating + 5 EGGSELENT BOARD

Pros: I lost my connection while trying to post my review and I am not sure if it went through so I am posting it again... Feature loaded, everything works perfect, new BIOS allows full control of CPU bootstrap and enables 1T. Great overclocker which will get even better once the Micron memory modules get released very soon. Asus is fine tuning this motherboard for Micron Z9 chips. DDR3-1600CL7 and DDR3-1600CL9 are using those chips and should be in the market soon. With this board and those modules you can hit 500FSB 1:1 @ DDR 2000 easy.

Cons: Not for people who do not understand the changes from DDR2 to DDR3 and who try to overclock and/or not understanding how the BIOS works. Its not really a CON because the board is designed with mosfets that will get hot but the power mosfets on this board do heat up quite a bit. They are rated for 120c+ so make sure your tower has good airflow. You do not need a wind tunnel, just make sure there is good intake and exhaust on the tower. The SilverStone TJ09 is working perfectly with this board.

Other Thoughts: I have to laugh at people who post reviews with the technical understanding level selected "very high" and are obviously clueless. There should be a ‘clueless’ option for that selection. The motherboard is NOT backwards compatible to DDR2 memory and neither the motherboard manual or the Asus web site claim it is in any way. Go to the 11th post down here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13029 if you want to see the BIOS settings for Kingston DDR3 memory running a quad core @ 3.6GHz. USE THE BLACK SLOTS ONLY for high memory speeds and clocks. You must understand the BIOS in order to get the most out of your DDR3. Once the Micron Z9 modules hit the market, people who have denounced this board and others because of DDR3 is not as fast as DDR2 for the cost, will be kicking themselves for not moving ‘up’ with technology in an upgrade.

Rating + 5 Great MOBO

Pros: As stated before, this motherboard has several options to choose from. The new chipset is quite fast. Can run Half Life 2 Wide open (with the help of the GTS 8800 640 Meg monster). Not a glitch in site. Installed a Core 2 Quad 2.40Ghz 1066 processor. Love the 8 Terabyte storage capability. Well worth the buy. Installed a Lunar Lander heat pipe heat synch, with the fan, and this baby runs nice and cool. Built in WIFI is a nice feature. 650-700 Watt power supply minimum in my book. Depends on how many drives you plan to use, and whether you plan to run SLI. Well worth it for all you HotRod on the edge of new technology geeksters out there.

Cons: DDR2 incompatible. I did extensive research and testing on the functionality of memory for this board, and DDR3 is the standard. DDR3 is major expensive. As stated previously, DDR2 will work on this motherboard, not a wise idea. First off, the memory is notched different, and the voltages are specified different. DDR3 runs at 1.5V whereas DDR2 requires 1.8V. Stay with the manufacturer guidelines. Tried to go 1333 FSB, but no LGA 775 1333 processor available as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Just can't ask anymore for the board that has it all. Can't wait for this one to come out with Duals.

Rating + 5 A great DDR3 board

Pros: All the onboard devices you would ever want. Great Bios and overclocking abilities. I like the InstALL feature. It completes all of the onboard driver installations for windows in one shot.

Cons: Sata Raid setup for windows xp can be a bit tricky. You will get a blue screen if you select the wrong driver. The asus dvd comes with a driver disk maker for ich9 raid. Warm up your floppies or look into streamlining installations.

Other Thoughts: YOU MUST HAVE DDR3. I cannot stress this enough. Save yourself a reorder and make sure you have the right memory. This board WILL NOT take ANY other memory.

Pros: It's got WiFi and RAID, neat.

Cons: Technically speaking, only supports DDR3 memory. If that's really a con... see below.

Other Thoughts: Go to Asus' site. Find this motherboard. Download the QVL (Quality Vendor List
, I believe it stands for). You will see that the only memory listed on it is DDR3. DDR2 may work with it, but you're taking it entirely into your hands. Personally I wouldn't bother unless I had DDR3 memory in hand or was ordering it at the same time. Just sounds too risky.

Rating + 5 NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE WITH DDR2

Pros: ..

Cons: ..

Other Thoughts: To the guy above, this board is not compatible with DDR2 memory. If you get this board you will need to purchase the (currently very expensive) DDR3 RAM. Most people as of 7/9/07 should opt for a DDR2 type board, simply because DDR3 is incredibly expensive (about $500 for just 2gb of high speed DDR3), and performance is only a hair better than DDR2. As time goes on, though, DDR3 will be far better than DDR2.

DDR2 and 3 also have the groove in a different position, so you will not physically be able to put your DDR2 RAM in a DDR3 motherboard, anyway (which would most likely quickly fry your DDR2 RAM)

Pros: MB didn't boot up then I bought different one P5K-E/WiFi and I love this MB. Even it takes DDR2 but who cares . DDR2s will be cheap to buy in couple of months. Easy to do OC. It's very fast.

Cons: Manual indicates a lot of thing but nothing worked. Mother board didn't boot up.

Other Thoughts: My suggestion buy P5K-E/WiFi MB. It rocks. You will love it and one more suggestion buy the Anti-static gloves before opening the MB box. You will thank me later for this suggestion. It only cost $5.

Rating + 5 Just what I needed

Pros: What a prize, this board is awesome. No need to overclock but you can if you want. Overall easy setup (see CONS notes too).

Once beyond setup this thing is amazing

Cons: Takes a bit to configure if you are using memory that is not part of the QVL (qualified vendor list) from ASUS... I had to specify memory timings / speed, used corsair 1066 ddr3 @ 7.7.7.20 / 1066.

Not sure why the chipsets / memory get to 140 degrees but looking to ASUS for answers...

Other Thoughts: ASUS manual / ASUS techs claim you cannot run memory @ 1066 when you have a cpu that runs @ 1066 on the FSB. This is not true, simply set the speed and it will do it.

Specs:

Case: Thermaltake VE2000BWS (Modified the water system to accomodate the placement of the video card)
Ram: Corsair 4x1gb XMS3 - 7.7.7.20
CPU: 2.4GHz E6600 - Intel

Rating + 3 Great Board, but won't work for me

Pros: Great board from all that I have read.

Cons: Everyone's tech. ratings are a litting confusing. Says it supports 800 mhz memory, but only in DDR3, but no one makes DDR3 in 800, just 1333 and 1066. Why has the market gone stale for slower memory. Had to send back for the p35 delux; will cost more to get theo correct board to me than what is almost worth, restocking fees and shipping and handling is eating my lunch.

Other Thoughts: I am not rich enough to put 4 gig in this board. If I was, no one makes 2 gig dimms for running in dual channel for a total of 8 gig. Would brake the bank.

Rating + 5 Some finesse needed with this one

Pros: I have configured this MB with a Core 2 Quad 2.4 CPU and DDR3 1066Mhz memory from Corsair. (XMS3) matched pair totaling 2 GB. The system runs very stable but U will need a beefy PS to keep things stable. The VGA card is an ATI HD2900XT and it too performs like a dream. U may want to put your ram in slots 1 and 3 rather than in slot 0 and 2 to prevent the heat pipe from transferring unneeded heat to your ram modules. Overall the system is very responsive and smooth.

Cons: If you’re newly build system does not initially post after assembly discharge the Bios, it will need to recalibrate your ram. DDR3 Ram is very expensive and the latency is higher than DDR2 (7.7.7.18 for 1066), which deducts from the thou put gained of its higher clock speed.

Other Thoughts: This MB will only accept a single pair of matched DDR3 ram in either slot 0&2 or 1&3. It will not operate with 2 matched pairs of XMS3 1024 modules at this time. All Vista 32 and 64 bit drivers are included on the disk and works well.
