Rating + 5 This is a great mobo!

Pros: I'm using this board for Windows Home Server, so I bought it board specifically for the PCI-X slots. All I can say is "This board Rocks". It solid as a rock, has all the necessary drivers for Server 2003 and enough ports to satisfy nearly anyone.

Cons: Location of PCIe 16x slots could have been better thought out, but not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: This WHS is running 24/7, supporting 18TB of HDD space. Its not the newest technology, but its a mature design with good support from Asus. Throw in the $50.00 rebate and there's not a better deal to be had.

Rating + 5 Asus Mobo

Pros: This board is rock solid. Have had no issues at all with it. Overclocking could not be made any easier. 5 egg's all day

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: As good of a buy as it was I also got a 50 dollar rebate from Asus.

Rating + 2 Ummmm.........

Pros: The features in bios are CRAZY!!!!! You can tweak almost everything. There's a wide variety of ports: pcieX16, pci-x, pci, etc.... Tons of SATA ports.

Cons: Freeking motherboard killed my $400 raid card in a day and a half. I was getting horrible speeds on my PCI-X raid card, and then BAM! dead. ASUS said that some cards aren't compatible. I thought there were standards for a reason... PCI-X is always PCI-X. 3.3V, THAT'S WHY THERE'S STANDARDS!!!!!! Wouldn't do a thing to help me on the raid card it killed. Returned immediately. Thnx Newegg for being AWESOME.

Other Thoughts: This has been the same experience I've had with every ASUS product I've come into contact with. Bought it b/c it had better specs. Big mistake. Only reason for 2 eggs is the # of ports... Go buy the supermicro C2SBX+. ROCK SOLID. It's been my 3rd supermicro and works FLAWLESSLY.

Rating + 5 First thing...Update BIOS

Pros: Instead of writing a typical Pro's and Con's review, I'm going to try to give some insight on why there have been some poor reviews among most that are excellent. As my rating shows this is an excellent MOBO as long as you don't get a defective one or don't have the ability to do some initial tweaking. The first thing that needs done is a BIOS flash. The latest BIOS from ASUS (0803) worked great and addresses some key issues that makes the first startup go south. I had the BIOS ready to go on a USB flash drive and used the flash utility within the BIOS to perform the update. This worked great. Otherwise, you'll very likely get the system to POST once and then not again. (remove battery and clear the BIOS if this happens)

Cons: My story with this board started out with receiving one that was defective. So I would advise a close inspection of all components, particularly any IC's that are not placed correctly. An IC to the right of the COM1 header, next to the FCC logo was placed crooked and thus mis-soldered. I sent it back without trying to power it up, but I have a feeling the board would've started, but caused all kinds of strange things and could explain why some have had odd ongoing issues. With all the features and much of the real estate used for cooling some of the connectors can get tricky, but with some patience it's not that bad.

Other Thoughts: You're going to have to set the PATA port to "Legacy" (which the BIOS update will do) if you plan on installing the OS from a PATA ODD. Using a SATA ODD is the least complicated. I'm using OCZ Reaper P/N: OZ3RPR13332GK with an E8400 Wolfdale and it's working great. I have just started messing with OC'ing and getting good numbers with stablity. Using the right latency numbers and DRAM voltage is key. I'm amazed at how cool this thing runs. Going from a P4 Prescott to this a great step up. Bottom line be patient and if you're not experienced with computer building find someone who is and let them help. I'm sort of suprised by those who think putting together a system from scratch should go off without a hitch. Especially with a highend board like this.

Rating + 2 Mixed bag.

Pros: Does DDR3 1333/PC310600/PC310666 RAM. Decent layout, considering the huge amount of connectors crammed into this thing. Astonishingly large number of ports for SATA, eSATA, IEEE 1394, USB, and TWO NICs. Lots of BIOS options, though most users probably won't need ACHI mode. A big plus is that you can boot with SATA drives accessed in an IDE compatibility mode, so you don't need to make a stupid 3.5" diskette with SATA RAID drivers on it when installing e.g. Windows XP. Tons of overclocking-friendly features and options, if you're into that sort of thing.

Cons: Unstable! I will be exchanging mine in the near future, or getting a refund. Flaky from the start. Bluescreened during first try at WinXP Pro install process, first time I've seen a machine do that.

Two weeks later, I reinstalled Windows XP Pro again -absolutely horrible experience! Took approx. 20 tries to get all the way through setup. System repeatedly froze, or turned off display (no signal from video card, not monitor turning off, possibly an ACPI problem) during Windows XP setup & Fedora Core 9 64-bit setup. Many false "corrupt or missing file" msgs. on known good install media. After discussing problems with video card mfg (XTX PCI Express 2.0 GeForce 9800 GTX Black Edition) am convinced problems were caused by this motherboard, not video card.

NOT a good board to run Linux. Live DVD/CD for Kubuntu 8.04.1, 7.04, 7.10, both 64- and 32-bit versions, Fedora Core 9, simply don't work.

Other Thoughts: Flakiness may be solved by future BIOS updates - or not. There's no telling. Would be a great board if there weren't so many OS installation issues. Haven't tried installing Vista. Perhaps my replacement motherboard will not have the above-noted problems.

Rating + 4 Specs don't match Asus website

Pros: Seems great

Cons: Memory compatibility?

Other Thoughts: I really want to buy this, but when I looked it up on Asus' site, it shows it as being a DDR2 1200(OC)/1066/800/667 mobo in more than one location. I have noticed folks saying that they have DDR3 1333 in here, but I want to be absolutely sure.

Rating + 2 Asus overated again

Pros: Good specifications on the motherboard, and great for overclocking.

Cons: During my initial startup the mobo did not recognize my cpu. I then proceeded to update the bios, which in turn fried my usb flash memory. After which I continued to have an issue: USB Device over current status detected. Eventually I was able to work around it. I was unable to get a hold of ASUS during this process as the queue for tech support was 90 minutes long.

The startup speed is very slow, initialization alone is like watching molasses run across your 24" lcd.

Other Thoughts: In the future I will not be buying ASUS, in the past I was a strong ASUS advocate.

If you want a card for OC'ing your hardware this would be a great choice, you get a pretty decent bang for your buck.

Rating + 5 Asus is my 1st choice for Mobo.

Pros: This Mobo is VERY stable. If you have a bunch of drives to hook up read the book carefully before assembling. Pay attention to what you are doing and you will be rewarded with a system that works great!

Cons: I do not like the location of the SATA connectors. I have a Thermaltake Swing chassis and connecting the SATA cables is tricky, perhaps maddening is a better word. If I could go back in time I would remove the drive cage, connect all the SATA cables, then reinstall the cage.

Other Thoughts: Had an Asus mobo before. It also was very stable. Then I tried an Abit, but it would occasionally BSOD until I replaced the Linksys modem. Linksys driver not compatible, tech support no help at all.

I have had the best luck with Asus!

Rating + 5 Great Board

Pros: Great board, great for overclocking. Wide array of BIOS options for OC'ing. I took a Q9450 from 2.66GHz to 3.2 and I'm at 45C under load air cooled, 39C Idle and I could probably go higher still. OC'd the FSB to 1600MHz along with my DDR3 1333 to 1600.

Cons: First one was DoA. It was a real pain too because I'm Military overseas (long shipping wait w/ APO shipping). Newegg of course was quick to RMA.

BIOS revision in both boards that arrived (although the 2nd was newer revision) did not recognize my Processor and required a BIOS Flash. I had to use a 65nm core2 duo to Flash it.

Other Thoughts: Q9450 Yorksfield 12M cache 2.66 @ 3.2 1333 OC 1600MHz.
Asus P5E3 WS Pro 1333 OC 1600MHz FSB.
2 X 2Gb OCZ Reaper HPC 1333 @ 1600 7, 7, 7, 20
EVGA GeForce GTX 280 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0

Rating + 1 Buyer Beware

Pros: Looks great on paper, wanted it for the DDR3 capabilities, high FSB and supporting the new intel chipsets...

Cons: After my system began intermittently experiencing a multitude of crazy problems within less than a month, including: successfully getting past post to the operating system followed by unprompted and random reboots, continuous-loop rebooting right after post, mouse and keyboard freeze, and unresponsive USB slots sometimes causing the aforementioned problems, I called ASUS tech support and one tech already knew my problem and had told me there were problems with the DIMM slots except A1. ASUS management denied this series is defective, but i doubt them, and now I have been waiting for my board for almost a month to be returned from their service center. One tech even told me not to update the BIOS...which I thought was odd.

Other Thoughts: I have had a BAD experience with a company that supposedly has a great rep.

Rating + 5 Happy Customer

Pros: The LGA 775 socket was important to me, because I wanted a fast Core 2 Duo CPU now with the ability to upgrade to a fast quad core CPU in the future. This combined with the DDR3 1333Mhz RAM design made the P5E3 WS Pro an ideal choice for gaming and other media tasks. Asus clearly labeled interfaces on this motherboard as they have in previous models. The accompanying User Guide contains all relevant information and is arranged in the same format as previous User Guides from Asus.

Cons: The placement and/or proximity of the first PCI-E slot to the DIMM sockets is closer than I like. I installed a BFG NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GTX video card into the PCI-E slot. Unfortunately, the DIMM slots locking mechanisms are unable to open from the locked position with the card in place. So the card must be removed for memory installation and removal. This is not a major inconvenience to me, but something I noticed.

Other Thoughts: The motherboard was undamaged upon inspection. I would recommend this item to anyone.

Rating + 4 Good Board, Terrible Shipped Bios

Pros: Works well. Quick, cool. Bios flashes from USB key

Cons: Bios as shipped DOES NOT support Quad Core CPUs --needs flashed first while booted from a core-2 duo. MAJOR inconvenience. Board is a bit cramped, a new large nvidia card makes taking memory out a pain.

Other Thoughts: Looks nice.

Rating + 4 BIOS update

Pros: Nice Board, a lot of features, nice copper piping.

Cons: After installing my Core 2 Quad Q9450 processor and I tried booting it up, I got no video. I had to use a Core 2 Dual E6550 processor to boot up the computer so I was able to flash the BIOS. I used my Flash drive to install the BIOS update. I have to say, that feature worked great. I installed my Quad Core and it booted right up.

Other Thoughts: Lucky for me I work at a place where I can get my hands on a few different processors. If I wasn't able to get my hands on a CPU, I would have had to call ASUS and they could have either sent me an updated BIOS to install or I would have had to send my board to ASUS to have them update it for me.

Rating + 3 Would be nice if it worked properly.

Pros: Quad Core, DDR3 capable, good company name.

Cons: I could not for the life of me get an operating system to install. I tried Windows XP, Vista, and Ubuntu. I saw more BSODs in one week than in my entire tinkering life of 12 years. Many RAID driver issues. Installation disks would give random stop errors for file checksums being corrupted when I have used and still use the same disks for installations. The BIOS was also quite annoying. By changing seemingly innocuous settings, the BIOS checksum would become corrupted, requiring me to change the jumper settings back to factory default. Not a fun task to do six times when it's hard to reach. Every single time I thought I knew why it wouldn't work, I would repeatedly and unavoidably hit another brick wall. I am RMAing this board in hopes that my next one will work the way it should--ASUS is a solid brand, so I'm hoping this isn't a defective series.

Other Thoughts: Intel Q9450, OCZ Extreme DDR3 1333MHz, 4x500 Seagate Barracuda in RAID5, nVidia GeForce 8800.

Rating + 4 Quality Board - Some Difficulties

Pros: Extremely fast. High quality. Good feature combo. Decent layout. Quality BIOS with good tools. Two PCI-X slots.

Cons: No PS/2 mouse port. Only one poorly supported PATA port.

Other Thoughts: This is my first DDR3 system. I have built many ASUS-based systems but this proved to be the most difficult so far.

I had trouble getting the DVD ROM drive to work on the PATA port. The BIOS update tool could read the drive fine but no combination of settings would make the drive available to the BIOS itself - could not boot the setup disk. Since this is a SCSI-based system, I was able to make do with an old SCSI DVD ROM drive. SATA optical drives apparently also work well but this could be a serious defect for some.

I also had trouble with the OCZ3P13332GK DRAMs which do not seem to work with the default settings. Bumping the voltage to 1.8 as recommended by OCZ didn't seem to help. I recommend using the offered bundle kit.

I love being able to use 15,000 rpm Ultra 320 SCSI drives in a workstation. Definitely worthwhile if you've got the bucks...

Rating + 5 So far so good

Pros: Pretty decent for the price to have DDR3 and newest 45nm Intel chips. No issues yet. Purchased for my first whack a a homebuild. If you are going to try and "stay ahead of the curve" without breaking the bank this will help you. Nice to have the fast connectors on some of the ports as well (front buttons, USBs, 1394, etc).

Cons: Newegg specs only list 24 pin needed for the mobo BUT it also needs an 8 pin as well instead of a 4.

Rating + 5 Impressive

Pros: It *feels* high-quality. Ports/connections are solid, firm. Layout is good; you can fit in what you want without trouble. Instructions are clear. Onboard sound is excellent. Double ethernet ports. DDR3 standard = awesome.

Cons: USB mouse only. BIOS loads graphics card first, then searches according to boot priorities (strange!).

Other Thoughts: Solid difference in quality between this board and my previous, just-over-a-buck GIGABYTE mobo. Glad i spent a little more.

Rating + 5 Great CAD Performer

Pros: Bought this board to replace aging Alienware Dual Xeon workstations. These boards bundled with fast RAM and a Quadro card blow the old Alienware machines out of the water! I have 8 on order with a very excited CAD Department!

Cons: BIOS was out of date - about 2 revisions behind. I hate updating BIOS.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for awesome performance when it comes to any 3D work, this board is a perfect foundation. Just don't skimp on the others and you won't regret it

Rating + 3 Good Board, But RAID SUCKS!!!

Pros: This is a nice board. Looks well constructed. Some nice features on this board.

Cons: Well, the RAID is very rudimentary (at least mirroring). You lose all data in rebuilding the mirror, so you have to off-load to another drive before recreating the array. Another goofy thing I had to learn the hard way is that the BIOS only supports all SATA drives as RAID or all drives stand alone. I wanted one drive for the system and two 750Gb mirrored drives for my data, but nooooo... it wouldn't let me do that. I had to buy another drive to mirror my system drive. That resolved my problems. Gigabyte RAID lets you do both: rebuild a mirrored array by selecting source and target drives and copying the data (not wiping it out) and have one drive as a stand-alone unit and mirroring data drives.

Other Thoughts: This is my first ASUS build. I've used Gigabyte mobo's for 5 previous builds. The Gigabyte BIOS is seems more sophisticated, straight-forward. Oh, and did I mention that Gigabyte's RAID is SUPERIOR!!! If the RAID were better, I'd recommend the board more highly. If I had it to do over again... I'd go with Gigabyte.

Rating + 4 Good, but a little unstable.

Pros: This is a nice board, but came accross compatiblity issues with it when trying to use the video card [BFG Tech GeForce 8800GTS 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express]. The motherboard just wouldn't post anything to the screen. I bought another exact card, and nothing. Finally i went with a eGeoForce 8600 GTS video card and it worked perfectly.

Cons: I'm still having some minor issues with this board or maybe it could even be the chipset drivers while running Vista. But currently, if i try to connect more than (4) USB or simply if i just try to connect the 5th connector to the back of the motherboard, my external USB HDD just shuts down automatically. There's some-kind of conflict going on - i'm planning on calling ASUS soon to discuss.

Other Thoughts: Overall though, i do say that this board is really good for the money. The layout is perfect and fits BIG video cards and my DDR3 memory just fine. Just be sure you have a big enough of a case.

Rating + 4 Good but a Pain

Pros: Runs great, once you get it started. Smooth, and great price.

Cons: I had begun the process of connecting compoents and installing Vista (Yes I know Vista). But in this case it wasn't Vista's fault. When I had my IDE DVD drive in the computer and was trying to install Vista it told me that there was no CD/DVD drive even after it brought up the icon for me to install Vista in the first place in its Install menu. Found out it doesnt have the drivers for the IDE on it (well I assumed) went to Best_Buy and bought a SATA 20x DVD write drive and was able to bypass this issue. Now it works fine.

Other Thoughts: Don't bother with Asus Tech Support you will be on the phone for days, and the lower level techs know more then the lazy higher level techs.

Pros: This is indeed the new model with the 1600FSB and DDR3 with 2x PCI-E x16 slots. All is working awesome and the overclocking potential seems high(Although I don't overclock ;)

Cons: None that I can tell. Except for the boot up times due to the legacy IDE connection of my DVD drive... If you get this you may want to just get an SATA type.

Other Thoughts: Fits everything I need and supports my PC3-10666 DDR3 Patriot ram just fine alon with my E8400 2x ATi 3870s and 2 SATA 500 GB HDD 1 DVD+/- R burner Killer NIC, Auzentech Prelude 7.1 and tons of fans.

Rating + 5 Now we know: This is the new 1600FSB DDR3 WS board

Pros: I loved this board layout on the old 975 chipset version, and I am now using the P5E WS Professional DDR2 which was only one Pci-X slot. The new DDR3 version, the ASUS P5E3 WS Pro, went back to the dual Pci-X slots similar to the older 975 version. The P5E is exceptional all around; and I am looking forward to a new build with the DDR3 version, the new ASUS P5E3 WS Professional.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: As stated below, the ad for this board originally missmatched the photo and specs with two defferent boards. This is now corrected.

Pros: This photo is of the P5E3 WS Professional X38 DDR3 motherboard.

Cons: Neweggs specs describe the X38 DDR2 version, P5E WS Professional (with one PCI-X slot).

Other Thoughts: If it IS the P5E3 WS Pro, however, it is an excellent price. It is also a rare board. Latest, greatest, WS and hard to find in the U. S. Because of this, I purchased mine elsewhere.
