Rating + 3 Be careful with the memory you get for this board

Pros: This board installed great. Plugged in the two video cards and the 3 hard drives, and it booted right up.

Cons: Memory only runs at 800 mhz (but it's 1200 mhz G-Skill memory!)

Other Thoughts: After running this system for a few months, I noticed during the POST that the memory was only reporting at 800 mHz. I have G'Skill Ripjaws 1200 mHz strips with an Intel E8500 (3.16 gHz) CPU.

With Asus techs, we tried to tweak it to run at 1200 mHz. After several different variations of settings, we could not get the system to a stable boot unless all the settings are "auto."

I just received a note from the Asus engineers that this board DOES NOT support 1200 mHz memory natively. I re-read the specs on this board, and it sure makes it sound like it should. And I've read the reviews by others that get the board to overclock.

I'm very disappointed with the performance. I should have either opted for cheaper RAM or a better board. But, if you can't trust the specs .....

Rating + 4 Open Boxes

Pros: Just an FYI, i bought an open box but what i really got was an OEM brown box. i didn't really mind since i know it's factory certified or refurb'd. Either way, it looked new. For one benjamin it was a heck of a deal.

Cons: NOTHING but the board, not even an I/O shield.

Rating + 5 Nice Mobo

Pros: really nice & stable board that runs nice n cool. overclocked my e3110 to 4Ghz with just a few voltage adjustments. I got this board to give my s775 platform some extended life since i don't want to spend a lot of $ to get on an i7 and to also get off the nvidia crapsets. I'm so happy i did. NB runs so cool i'm amazed.

Cons: double posts from a cold boot but that's not a big deal to me. a bit finiky getting the drivers installed in XP but i got through it.

Rating + 5 Beast!!

Pros: OCs with ease, clean Design, EFI BIOS support (though it's not stable yet), great amount of USB ports as well as Sata ports, Backup BIOS chip.

Cons: One of the Sata ports is right next to the GPU, makes it a bit hard to access if you possess one of the larger GPUs out there.

Newegg keeps changing the ETA date for the mobo. Had to buy an open box P5Q Deluxe.

Other Thoughts: This was actually a replacement mobo, the old one got shorted out due to the computer case I have and it's lack of quality. Soon I will have my Antec 1200 and all those problems will be a story of the past.

Newegg sent me a mobo with everything included and in well condition 5+++

Rating + 5 Good Board

Pros: Great board decent layout, Wonderful overclocking ablities. I bought this board for myself but shortly after I got it I had a client's computer go down and she wanted a new build, So I put this board in her's and went from there.

Cons: The only con I have is the packaging from newegg recently, I buy thousands in products per year using almost exculsively newegg for parts, in the past the packaging was great very well protected in the middle of the transport box. However the last 3 motherboards I've recieved every one of them have the MB right next to either the top or bottom of the box then the packing paper or peanuts fill up the rest, resulting in the motherboards box being dented or squished some when I open it. The last two ASUS Motherboards that have been packed this was have both failed recently and had to be RMA'd. I'm wondering if newegg should be held partly responsible for these failing..
One had issues right out of the box, and the other lasted about a month before it revs and no post.

Other Thoughts: I havent overclocked it just yet letting the cpu and MB burn in for awhile, and being that it isnt mine anymore it doesnt look like I'll be overclocking this one much for awhile. ASUS made another fine MB and again I'm a happy tech.

Rating + 1 ASUS P5Q Deluxe

Pros: None, so far...

Cons: I have not been able to get this, or the ASUS P5Q SE2 (purchased elswhere) to work long enough to to really evalualte the product.

Other Thoughts: Numerous crashes, BSODs, etc. I've also purchase 4 1Gb sticks of Corsair Dominator (1066) RAM, and two sticks of 2Gb Corsair Dominator (1066) RAM. I've tried swapping each 4Gb set back and forth between the ASUS P5Q Deluxe and the ASUS P5Q SE2. I've had nothing but problems with both PCs - no matter how I've tried to congigure the systems. I've tried every setting ever mentioned in any of the appropriate forums. I've tried switching the RAM back and forth between systems. And so on.... Sometimes either will work - most of the time neither will work. I've tried for several months now and I'm now beyond any hope of ever getting either system to work reliably.

Rating + 4 LGA 775 - Last of the Good Mobos

Pros: I found this board to be fairly well laid out and even in today's times, the use of copper parts to displace heat is a sign of good consideration.

If your staying with the 775's this is a very solid board to be with...You have plenty of RAM room with good side buss avenue...It can handle the Quad with absolute ease...

If your not ready to pour $ into the i7 layout, this is the way to go.

Cons: I dont care for the pre boot up program...I tried it, and found that I dont use it and I can do with out it.

Other Thoughts: I chose this board based on review like here of those who spoke about this board with favor...I can confirm the positive attributes of this board...It may not have all the bells & whistles, but if your looking for a solid board without the shiny things that makes the first impression to go oooooh, then you come to understand what this board is all about.

Rating + 5 Good farewell kiss for LGA775

Pros: 1. Overclocks very easily.
2. Good build quality.
3. Ram slots far away from CPU.
4. Q9550 @ 3.4 GHZ at 1.2 v.

Cons: 1. Automatically raises CPU voltage higher than needed. Must use manual adjustment. I wondered why I was getting such high temps at 3 GHZ... IT WAS AT 1.25V!!!
2. Onboard sound starts to crackle after using the computer awhile (Especially after running CPU diagnostics programs). Must buy soundcard.

Other Thoughts: So this is it for LGA775. This board serves it justice. A must for budget buyers who can't quite swing for an i7 yet but want the best performance/price ratio. Pair this board with a Q9550 and you're golden.

I will wait at least until the successor to i7 is released before I upgrade again. I love the quality of my computer.

Rating + 5 Very nice

Pros: Initially this board was confusing since it had its own browser that loaded before the OS loaded. That bugged me at first until I realized that I could start the computer and be on the Internet within a minute. Set up was easy and everything I connected to the board worked flawlessly.

Cons: The first board I received was DOA. Newegg responded quickly after I completed the RMA forms...oh and payed for shipping to send it back (which I didn't care for). Shouldn't the manufacturer be billed for that somehow?

Other Thoughts: Excellent board. I recommended it.

Rating + 5 Great Board

Pros: I have an Antec 902 case and a Zalman CNPS 9900 LED heat sink. I was concerned the heatsink would hit the fins on this board, but they didn't. Great fit with room to spare. Tons of features in bios. overclocking is made very easy. 16 phase power, capacitors made great, just an all around solid board that you would expect from Asus.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: None

Pros: I wanted to build one last trusty LGA775 system using the tried & true Intel Q9550, so I bought this board. The MB I received has bios 2201 as opposed to the latest 2301. No biggie as I planned on using XP Home edition anyhow(Windows 7 later down the road). So far it's been running straight for over a week with no hiccups. It ran Prime95 for 12 hours straight, all settings are stock. No plans for over clocking. Using a Thermaltake Typhoon 120/mm to keep the cores cool. Playing Flashpoint, temps never get over 43c on the CPU. Seems like a good solid performer with the goodies I'm using. Not a gaming machine in the classic sense, but I'm happy.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Build on this system as follows.
700w PS
Q9550 E0 stepping
Nvidia 7600GS (soon to be changed to an Nvidia 260/GTX)
Two 2/gb sticks of Crucial PC2-6400 RAM
Creative X-F1 Xtreme Gamer sound card
320/gb Western Digital Blue HD
Thermaltake Typhoon 120mm CPU cooler

Rating + 5 ASUS P5Q

Pros: Just finished a new build with this M/B. This is one of the best engineered M/B I have encountered. The layout and features are superior. Coupled with the great job done on the documentation, it sure makes the assembly easy.

Cons: Two of the SATA connectors are side-mounted. ASUS needs to re-orient these to top insertion like the rest of the SATAs.

Rating + 4 Nice Motherboard

Pros: Nice clean design with good cooling and lots of features. I'm running a E7400 Core Duo with the stock Intel heatsink and it runs at about 30C - very nice. The stock heat sink also blows air perfectly through the motherboard heat fins and pipes. Everything runs cool. This is being used for a security system digital video recorder so I'm not trying to over clock it or anything, just wanted a fast pc to handle all of the video processing going on. Works great.

Cons: Documentation could be better:
Boot problems when using some types of RAM, even what's on the Asus recommended vendor list. The first board I got would not post but then I found out that the board defaults to RAM voltage of 1.8v. The RAM I'm using are Corsair Dominator TWIN2X20488500C5D which needs 2.2v which I finally figured out after messing with it on and off for a week or so (ouch). I ended up putting in a 1GB stick of cheap 1.8v low speed ram to get it to post, then went into the BIOS and changed the RAM voltage to 2.2v. Shut the machine down and installed the Corsairs. Now it boots and is quite stable. Whew!
The fan control is a bit dissapointing. Apparently all of the motherboard fans (except cpu) are controlled together and are not individually adjustable for speed.

Other Thoughts: RAID control works great once you figure out how to set it up:
1. Select RAID in the BIOS. Reboot.
2. Press F6 when loading operating system. Load RAID drivers for the ICH10R southbridge chip (from a floppy). I've heard that this step is unnecessary with Windows 7 because the drivers are built in.
3. Reboot and press cntrl-I during boot. Set the RAID configuration with the little menu that pops up.
4. Reboot to Windows and format your array in Disk Management.
5. Done.
I was able to set up RAID 0,1, or 10. I didn't try 5. By the way if you're running XP, the max array size recognized by Windows will be 2TB, so you may have trouble if you're trying RAID 0 or 5 with 4ea 1T drives. By the way, my OS is on a 5th drive (solid state) not a member of the array.

Rating + 5 Good overall

Pros: Great overclocker, currently has my Q9650 at 4 GHz (1.3v). Painless upgrade from a P5W on Vista x64, save for new video and chipset drivers. Windows 7 support. Great power-saving/temp management features, with C-State&EIST, runs the CPU at 25C idle/50C load with the above clock speed. Includes CPU voltage, amperage, and wattage draw sensors. Good feature set.

Cons: Marvell controller isn't great, doesn't help that it handles the IDE and eSATA ports. Uncooperative with large (1TB<) unformatted eSATA drives, will lock up during format and drop all drives attached to it. The primary ICH10R does a much better job of handling anything important. Eventually I'll get a SATA drive to replace my IDE BenQ DVD-RW drive. ExpressGate doesn't recognize my Atheros AR5005GS wireless card.

Other Thoughts: Bought to upgrade from my P5W DH that could support a Q9650 but only at stock. Wish the board had integrated wifi like some previous P5Q models, and the JMicron controller of my old chipset. The EPU/AI Suite software is useless in Windows 7, no loss though. NZXT Apollo, Intel Q9650 w/Scythe Mugen, 4 GB Patriot 1066 RAM, Sapphire ATI Radeon 4850, 1 TB Hitachi HDD, Corsair 650W PSU, Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic, Windows 7 HP 64-bit.

Rating + 5 Amazing

Pros: I couldn't be happier. Very easy to install, and everything worked great right out of the box. Express Gate awesome, and literally boots in about 2 seconds after I power on.

Cons: I don't know if this is usual or not, but there were no screws or mounting pins in the box when I received it. I ended up having to use the ones from my old mobo, which fortunately was also Asus.

Other Thoughts: Stays cool at around 29C-32C idle and haven't past 45C on full load. Thanks Asus for the great product... but next time, try not to forget the screws.

Pros: Runs without any problems so far. I have the mother board for a little over a month no complaints.

Cons: But I do have for Asus rebate centers. Still waiting for my rebate over a month. They give you a track number you can only go so far, then wait. The first time it was the same sitting around waiting until you hear nothing more. Looks like it's going the same way, Asus this has to stop.!!!

Other Thoughts: Newegg it's not your fault but maybe if you say to them that your customers are complaining they might do something. They don't listen to us everyday people.

Rating + 5 one of the best for 775

Pros: Already have one myself but just got one for a friend and I say this is one of the best for performance. Mine has a Q9550 up to 4.0Ghz and so far I've gotten my friend's up to 3.83GHz easily.

Looks, cooling, features, and layout is fantastic.
Lots of value for your money.

Cons: None except the mobo disc will not work with Windows 7 because a msg says it is incompatible. (Win7 has the drivers automatically anywya).

Other Thoughts: Came with BIOS 2201

Pros: Best of the 775 socket M/B left out there. Overclocks very easy. Runs like a champ, no hickups. Get one while there still around.

Cons: I Only have one It's Sata connectors postions on M/B not straight up!

Other Thoughts: If you don't want to be the new kid on the block with the latest Intel processors 1156.1366, this board will perform well for most.

Rating + 2 Not happy

Pros: Lots of sata ports. Cool and quiet.

Cons: Marvell controller - period. Poor documentation on the Drive Xpert option.

Other Thoughts: I think I may have a bad Marvell controller. It controls the PATA, eSata, IEEE (I think) and two sata ports... and none of them work correctly. Granted I am using an OS (Windows Home Server) that is not in the list when I go to the driver download site, but all the XP drivers install fine. I tried to configure the drive Xpert ports as NORMAL to use just one of them as normal SATA and the drive never shows in POST or Windows. eSATA port does not work at all, even with the Marvell drivers installed in Windows (dock is good - tested on another PC), and I have an ODD plugged into the PATA port that shows in the Marvell phase of POST, but not in Windows! Weird, uncool behavior all around. I am thinking of RMAing this board but will put Win 7 on the PC first to see if the OS makes any difference (I doubt it will). Intel controller works wonderfully. I have WHS system drive in RAID1 with that and other ports for DATA drives - no issues at all. Intel Matrix Manager running fine in WHS too.

Rating + 4 Good, but ...

Pros: Great motherboard overall: well laid-out, excellent set of features, lots of SATA ports, fast. I actually bought a second one for another project along with the E6300 CPU. Great combo! Nice price point.

Cons: Very picky about memory and shuts down whenever mem settings are changed. I have tried to get 1066 mem working with two sticks using G-Skill and Corsair and could NOT. In NO case and with NO settings could I get more than one stick to work and keep the board from shutting down. I tried to different sets of G-Skill along with the Corsair and two different MBs. Alas I am stuck with 2Gb per board. Guess I can live with that considering the Pro's.

Rating + 4 solid mobo

Pros: Plenty of connectors, VERY well laid out design (other than the SATA) and excellent cooling. Bios is replete with overclocking options, if you wish to go in that direction.

Cons: Marvel RAID controller is flimsy - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE WITH LOCKING SATA CABLES! Not only did the top of the plug break off upon insertion of said cable, but the internal broke off when I removed it. I would RMA it, but can't until I finish my backup sys.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to use the 'back' SATA ports (Marvel + 2 ICH10R), I would suggest inserting cables before you install the mobo. Only 4 SATA ports are vertical, which is a huge disappointment but clearly visible in pictures.

Rating + 3 Poor Customer Service

Pros: As far Newegg concerned you get 5 eggs. The motherboard arrived fast. The mother board has a bundle of features I probably will never use but I could not pass up the terrific mark down deal with an additional rebate & free shipping. The layout connections are superb supporting great cable management.. The board worked. AOA (Alive on Arrival)

Cons: ASUS on the other hand gets 3 eggs because of poor understanding in the English language with their tech support. I had a tech issue that needed resolved with a bad connection I had. It turned out being my fault but the point is I wish ASUS would use American people who speak understandable good English. If I did not find my own mistake in this situation I was about to needlessly return the board to ASUS. if it was a real problem regardless I would of never resolved anything with the joker I got on the other end. Absolutely Horrible English..Horrible!

Other Thoughts: This is a higher end board and my best build ever. Just be sure you pay extreme attention to detail with your USB connections if your chassis or (case) front panel USB connectors are individually separated like mine. The same goes to all connectors actually. When you hook up wrong like I did the motherboard would not boot up to bios. So take note of that novice builders. Your newer cases available mostly are now equipped with one plug connectors which you then avoid the mishap I mentioned entirely so it is getting better for us newbies.

Pros: Worked fine for about 14 months

Cons: Started flaking out, came up with the blue screen of death, no new hardware installed, nothing that I could associate with the onset of the BSOD

Reseated all of the connectors, replaced the RAM, still flaked out.

Other Thoughts: Sent back to ASUS they said there was no problem with the board. I replaced the board with a different board and haven't had a problem since.

Pros: Works right out of box. Full Windows 7-64 bit support. Excellent under Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala (some fiddling with optical SPDIF to make it works). Lot of OC potential with q9550 and OCZ DDR2 PC2-8500 1066 MHz Platinum Series Low Voltage 4GB(2 x 2048) Dual Channel Kit.

Cons: When you'll evaluate the price keep in mind that the rebate is hypothetical. Because I received my MB on Oct 30 I didn't qualified for rebate even thou I've sent the forms on Nov 2. I was out of time frame :)

Rating + 3 Pretty Board

Pros: Board runs very cool. also looks pretty nice. Built in linux is not if you don't want to wait for os to load to check something real quick.

Cons: I purchased this board knowing it had 3 pcie slots on it. However, the darn board will not allow my GTX275 to seat properly. Which, of course, means i cant use my darn card. I put in a ticket to asus and they told me to update my drivers. What the heck do drivers have to do with getting the hardware to seat properly. Really Asus if it wasn't for the fact that i had an extra older card i wouldn't have been able to do anything.

Other Thoughts: Board is great except for hardware computability. Support is ridiculously stupid.

Pros: Mine came with the latest BIOS installed 2201 , so no flashing needed. The ASUS P5Q Deluxe is one great board. As usual ASUS has kept up the pride and Quality of there products. Many features with this board. I installed a Q9550 and WENT TO 3.60 GHz with just a few BIOS changes. Temps on the board were 31 deg c . 28 deg c Idle 64 on load with a aftermarket cooler on the CPU. Dual Lan and SoundMax Audio are a plus. Worth looking into for sure , I dont think you will regret bringing this one home.

Cons: Minor and they haven't been a issue on this board but in the past the Marvel Drivers have caused me issues. I dont care for them at all.

Other Thoughts: I would say to mount this board into a full tower case. As I installed it into a Mid tower with great Air flow with little room to spare. It just looks cramped inside , It might just be me as I have a Core i7 920 watercooled set up with a Antec 1200 case and the thing is huge. So I'm use to looking at all the room inside the 1200.

Rating + 5 Easy to install, runs great.

Pros: Mobo fit monster case like they were made for each other. System didn't boot first time. Manual says it won't if both the 24 pin AND the 8 pin power connectors aren't hooked up. It's correct. Perpendicular SATA plugs are hard to get to with hard drive cage, but doable. System running great so far. Built in OC has 3.16 processor running at 3.25+.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Entire NewEgg system:

Rating + 3 P5Q delux short commings

Pros: This board has great energy management. Great options in bios to manage fans. Runs all multimedia functions well. Using the ASUS TV card and Vista home premium. Just love the way it performed.

Cons: After 3 months, the computer would not post. I had to remove battery and reinstall and it would post. Months later it did it again. This time I changed battery. Old battery still had 3.03v. Ran 6 months and then found it had happened again. This time no fixing it. RMAed it.

Other Thoughts: This issue seems to happen to a few other people also. Is it their soft spot? E-8500, ASUS EN9600GT video, Corsair 450Watt PS 80+, 4GB Cosair 1066 Memory, ASUS PHC3-100 media card

Cons: Not happy with the drivers... Windows7 64 was not supported at all. Managed to get all the drivers offline, no biggie...

Other Thoughts: Not that fond of the cpu fan connections. Just seem cheapy cheapy but that isnt the fault of the motherboard...

Rating + 3 Poor Windows 7 support, USB issues

Pros: - Looks great
- Feature rich
- Runs cool

Cons: - Not all features run under Windows 7
- Limited number of internal USB headers
- Internal USBs seem to be underpowered, very flackey. USB devices randomly dissapear with "Unknown Device" error
- Back panel shield doesn't fit well limiting access to some ports

Other Thoughts: I spent tons of time trying to make USB work. I think I am going as a last attemp to do a clean OS reinstall, and then if it doesn't work reliable I'll RMA it. Too bad because the board looks pretty cool.
My first disappointment was the lack of internal USB headers. I need 3 USB headers for the front USBs, card reader, and internal IR receiver for controlling HTPC with a remote. It is my fault I didn't check the specs in adavance. I thought all full ATX boards have plenty of USB headers.
With a previous Gigabyte board I've never had any issues with USB, so I was quite surprised when my IR receiver started to randomly fail after moving to this board. After swithching IR receiver to another header it started working, but now front panel card readers don't work. Back panel USB ports seem to be OK.

Rating + 4 Asus P5Q-Deluxe

Pros: Excellent performance board. OC’s like crazy but one must keep in mind that CPU & RAM are in opposites with each other. In other words you cannot have a OC CPU running “hot” and expect to be overclocking your RAM at the same rate. The laws of electronics do not permit this.

Cons: 4 egg rating only because of SiL5723/XpertDrive became inoperational during the initial setting up of this MoBo.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this board little over year ago. At sometime during initial setup the SiL5723/XpertDrive went south. I could not use it as JBOD or RAID but I did have access with one SATA port so I was able to utilize it for a HDD. I finally decided to RMA. After reading some of the forums and reviews here at newegg.com and other places I was skeptical of even obtaining a RMA or fix on this MoBo. Asus replied within 24 hours to my RMA request with complete instructions and shipping label for returning the board to CA for repair. In exactly 5 working days Asus contacted me via phone informing me the board could not be repaired that they were replacing it with a new board and it had already been shipped, I could expect it within 5-7 working days. This is why I’ll return to Asus for my next purchase.

Rating + 3 This is Asus?

Pros: Runs solid so far.

Cons: IDE drives are slow. I bought this board to replace a 7 year old Asus A7NBX and the IDE speed was slower on this board than on the 7 year old board. SATA seems OK.

Connector locations seem to be an after thought.

Too many software utilities. In the future I'll go back to Nvidia chipsets. One download and you get everything. With this board you have to browse through several dozen drivers to get them all updated.

Other Thoughts: Box arrived slightly crushed. The shipping container was fine, so it must have happened at the warehouse. First time this has ever happened to me from Newegg.

Pros: Great stability for overclocking, nice features, great price, solid materials

Cons: couldn`t get the FSB over 500. Nothing else really.

Other Thoughts: I paired this board with my Q9550, OCZ Platinum 4 GB 8500 memory, 2 128GB OCZ Vertex, + 4 other drives,
This thing got my CPU from stock 2.83GHz to 4.2Ghz on air without any trouble. Then I hit the wall at 499 FSB. No matter what I tried I couldn`t set it to anything over 500fsb.

Pros: Got my Q9550 to 4.0Ghz stable and detects all components no problem.

Lots of options in bios. Came with many accessories. Express Gate works too.

Very stable and the NB can handle the temp.

Great board if you're only going to run a single graphics card like me.

Got it when the price went down =)

Cons: none for me

Other Thoughts: Updated to latest bios no problem. Very satisfied with this board. First time using a P45 chipset.

Rating + 5 Great motherboard, loving it

Pros: 8 SATA, Quad core compatible, DDR2 1200 ram, Hardware RAID support, Whats missing?
The built in Linux OS is nice and fast to boot, and all I need when I just need to send a quick email or facebook message. It also works fine for simple online games.

Runs great, and boots incredibly fast using my RIDATA 32gb SSD.

Overclocking is simple, but not in Windows 7 64bit. Gotta wait for the new ASUS ai suite i guess...

Cons: My 2nd SATA port has issues sometimes, and my IDE hard drive seems to appear and dissapear depending on if it wants to be seen. not a big deal though, its not the motherboards fault.
The 6th sata port kinda sucks for positioning, but since I plugged a 90degree SATA cable in it before installing my video card i can still use it

Other Thoughts: Asus P5Q Deluxe
Q9660 2.83ghz processor
4x2gb OCZ DDR2 933 ram
2xAsus EAH4850 TOP 512mb

Rating + 4 Well Thought Out

Pros: This motherboard is performing very nicely paired with a q9550 2.83ghz quad core chip. It has an excellent feature set. It can handle up to 8 eight sata drives between the two controllers. Having built numerous machine I very much appreciated the small attention to details like the front panel connectors to consolidate them into a single plug for people who are in and out of the machine a lot.

Cons: The heatpipe runs a little warm, 50 C but it still under 55 so not a big deal. Besides additional cooling options can remedy the issue.

Other Thoughts: I have been a long time Supermicro fan and have used Asus boards in the past as well. Asus is still providing a great feature set with a high degree of system stability. This is not specific to this board but I will note it anyway. I had planned on a 4 1tb raid 5 array with this platform but was unaware that raid arrays larger than 2tb cannot be booted from. I switched it to raid 10 and it works beutifully although I would have had an additional terabyte of storage in raid 5. Arrays larger than 2tb can be created for data volumes just not booted from.

Rating + 5 A Motherboard Done Right

Pros: Extremely stable, runs cool, easy to setup and a good performer.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have had this board over a year. I have not had any problems at all. I am not much of an overclocker but I have my e8400 at 3.2ghz, 4gb Mushkin xp8500@1068, Asus 4890, Xigamtek s1283 cooler, PC Power & Cooling 750 watt PS, WD 500 aals w/Vista 32 for everyday use., WD 640 aals w/ Vista 64 for gaming. This is a very good gaming setup as well as a general purpose system. With the 32 nanometer Intels set to come out (quarter 4) I may build a new one after the first of the year with the release of Windows 7. Until then I love what I have now.

Rating + 1 Piece of JUNK!!!

Pros: Pretty good for overclocking, but read below...

Cons: This is a beta motherboard! It leaks a lot of features that even cheap Chaintech mobos have. For example, it can't even turn on from USB keyboard/mouse, only from PS/2. But hey, there's only one PS/2 connector. And they say it's a combo PS/2 and you might think that you can get PS/2 splitter - WRONG! It's just a single PS/2 port and pins 2&6 are not connected, so splitter won't work. Forget about waking from S5 by keyboard/mouse.

Fan connector for CPU is PWM ONLY! Come on! Many cheaper motherboards have both AC/PWM fan controllers that you can set to either mode in the bios.

And they call it a "deluxe" version of P5Q series of motherboards? What a joke...

Other Thoughts: Express gate is a gimmick! They didn't release updates for SSD express gate in long time. Instant messenger is outdated and won't work with ICQ. So, forget about chatting in express gate.

EPU-6 Engine will never keep settings after sleep mode. Set it to Auto and it will reset to Normal mode after wake up. Also, your overclocking will never kick in after sleep even if you set EPU-6 to overclock. I've set overclock to 12%, put mobo to sleep and then woke it up and set it to overclock - CPU-Z, while under load of orthos showed overclock of 3% instead of 12%. You have to click on Settings and then click Ok again if you want your settings to be what you set them to. They always reset.

This is the last time I bought from Asus. I have a business and I will ALWAYS discourage my customers from buying Asus products from now on. I hope they go bankrupt for selling beta products. People, buy some other reputable brands motherboards like eVGA or so. Paying so much for beta products is a rip o

Rating + 1 Second motherboard RMAd

Pros: It wasn't DOA, and it still would POST, unlike the first motherboard.

I sure have come to appreciate NewEgg's RMA procedures, given all the trouble I have experienced so far with this ASUS P5Q Deluxe motherboard. My old ASUS P4P800 was a flawless board by comparison.

Cons: It wouldn't allow me to create nor restore a Ghost image, nor would it allow Partition Manager to operate. I wasted too many hours to overcome that issue, to no avail. I still had the 1st motherboard on hand, but when I changed back to it to isolate the issue, it wouldn't POST. 3rd Motherboard installed allowed me to create a Ghost image, so there was something seriously wrong with the BIOS or chipset.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg packaging is without any cushioning on the bottom so the pins on the bottom of the motherboard pincushioned the plastic bag. Both ASUS and NewEgg could do a better job of packaging. I keep wondering how many RMAs could be avoided if products were more carefully packaged and shipped.

Rating + 3 Asus can do better.

Pros: As far as the features go, this motherboard is great! I have always used ASUS for my motherboards and they are usually great products with excellent features and a very nice BIOS. I love the ability to overclock with this motherboard.

Cons: The first motherboard I recieved had a faulty onboard sound card. Unfortunately I was out of the country for a while and could not return it to Newegg within the 30 day time limit. I called ASUS and returned it through them. I am happy that they made it very easy to return and gave me no problems at all. However, It took a whole 10 days for the return which felt like an eternity! Then the second motherboard they sent me had problems too! The ports on the motherboard were slightly crooked and didn't line up with my case. I didn't want to wait another 10 days to send it back so I made it fit into the case with a little force. It seems like ASUS is starting to have a problem with quality. I might consider another manufacture next time. It's a shame, I really liked ASUS.

Other Thoughts: ASUS needs to improve their quality management.

Rating + 1 P5Q Deluxe

Pros: The usual hardware package was in tune to past packages and maybe they could've thrown in an extra USB adapter. But out side of that the board is about up to their standard design mechanically.

Cons: Not good at all. Bad performance, constant blue screen under mutiltasking. I installed OCZ memory as per their approved list and played with every setting under the sun and it just blows up with a high pitch singing type noise. I have been down more today then up and just emailed their tech support. This motherboard was a replacement for a mobo that took them three months to settle with me. I'm not a happy camper as I've been with Asus forever. I tired XP pro 64 bit and went back to 32 bit as it was a little more stable program wise (not an Asus problem). When it blue screen it resets the date to 2002 which then causes issues with some of my programs and I feel like a dummy because I didn't catch it right away.

In all fairness, Asus used to be the cream of the crop. I've been with them for years and in the last 5 years I've had 4 major motherboard failures. Not a good average. I hope this is not going to be another three month wait on their side.

Other Thoughts: This is the first time I used all recommened Asus's CPU and memory as per their specifications, and I still had problems. Asus needs to revaluate their design concepts and get back on top like they used to be.

Pros: no problems with this one at all, and run it with oc'd Q9550 and g.skill 800 ram. only real stress on this and the 4850 card is when i run Trainz, which is hog-heavy for cpu and video, and i'm up 40 FPS past my P5AD-2, with it's pentium 3.4 at 3.6, and it's partnered ATI 850. 40 more frames per second makes this sim ( like flight sim but with a lot of ground textures and buildings to compute as the train goes by. )

i'm not a reference for any of the heavy-cpu'd live action games, but for this simply but cpu and board-stressing game -- and, video editing user it's been great. not a problem at all, and a good solution while DDR2 is still a cheap option.

Cons: none. really, and i've had a few boards since 1980's.

Other Thoughts: newegg is always the way, unless A dot com's got what they don't have.

Rating + 2 So So ............

Pros: Motherboard generally boots up and works without blue-screening

Cons: Motherboard, rated at being capable of DDR2 1200 MHz Qualified Vendor Memory with the BIOS AI Tweaker set to Auto only runs at 800 MHz. If the memory is configured to run at 1200 MHz, the motherboard takes a lot of time to boot, as it is then over-clocked and unstable.
.
Additionally, the ASUS AI Nap and PC Probe II software is flaky, and doesn't function because of Memory address errors. ASUS Tech support isn't much help, as their only remedy is to reformat the hard disk and re-install WinXP again.
.
This motherboard has been RMA'd back to NewEegg

Other Thoughts: NewEgg packaging for shipping is certainly not up to standard, with apparent laziness, the packers seeming just literally throw products for shipping in to carton, then throw the "popcorn" packing material on top and tape it up, leaving the product being shipped unprotected on the bottom. NewEgg gets one egg docked for their deficient and incompetent packers.

Rating + 5 Wonderful Mobo!

Pros: Great layout
I love the I/O shield - No more cut up fingers
Plenty of connections + Fan connections
Phase power
Excellent NB heat sink
Awesome Bios
Mushkin memory loves this board (Big plus for me)
Lots of software
Asus quality
The list goes on and on...

Cons: If I had to think of a con.. SLI support? I knew that going in, though.

Other Thoughts: Unlike others who have purchased this board, it worked great for me. I've had 0 problems. I had an Asus P5QC before this and it was solid except the dang main power connection was in a terrible spot. For a cable management freak like me, this was a deal breaker. I then picked up an Evga 750i SLI F T W mobo. What a terrible board that was. I returned it the next day for the Deluxe and have been happy ever since. When I go i7, you can be sure my next board will be Asus!

Cons: All sorts of problems with this MB:

1) IDA/SATA port problems, 2) PC bug [0x00000031] found bios, but already have the latest bios, 3) then found out that you can't update the bios w/ their instructions (bio so big won't fit on floppy). 4) Tech support site is one of the worst I have seen, 5) have to spend 30 minutes filling out mandatory details of model number (& other specs) for every piece of hardware touching the MB before they let you open a ticket 6) Technical problems (web performance) caused ticket to go empty. 7) No way to follow up on ticket.

I will never go with another ASUS product again.

Rating + 4 Seems like pre-release (or Beta) motherboard.

Pros: A lot of options for overclocking. I've had it for 7 month and it still lasts. But read below...

Cons: Like others stated, seems like a Beta motherboard. Apparently design phase was not completed 100%, but ASUS needed money, so they pushed this product to the market. Many simple features are missing like "power on USB keyboard/mouse," "legacy DC FAN control." etc. Come on, ASUS, this is the "DELUXE" version of P5Q motherboard after all...

Has merged PS/2 port, so you'll end up having to buy a splitter if you're planning to use PS2 keyboard and mouse.

Difficult to find a CPU fan that will fit because of the design of heat pipes (again design issues).

CPU thermistor reports temperature of the cpu case, which is not what you want to see. Therefore, reported cpu temp is like 20C, which is not true. We need to see temperature of cores.

Other Thoughts: Beta motherboard, what else can I say...

Seems like Asus stopped making good mobos - got spoiled or something.

Their motherboards are raw and uncompleted. Not the high-end mobos like they've used to be.

If you want to buy high-end mobo now, go with nVidia motherboards. nVidia is not spoiled (yet, lol).

Rating + 5 awesome, what else can be said?

Pros: I bought this mobo open boxed. i always buy open box, cause 99% of the time when a item is returned, it is due to user error, not manufacture error. i've read a lot of bad "reviews" on these boards, and i have come to one conclusion, ppl don't know what they are talking about.

a lot of people say on the quad, the board hits a fsb wall at 470*, i can tell you right now, i've hit 500+ on mine so far. if you can get this board for 80 bucks like i did on open box, i say go for it, if you can't, then get the ud3p or the p5q-pro, both awesome boards.

i love the heatsink setup on the north/south/capacitors, been awhile since i have owned a asus board, been buying gigabytes lately, and i can honestly say, i have missed the build of these boards, they are really really nice.

Cons: didn't come with a I/O plate, wasn't dissappointed in that, was actually expecting something to be missing from the open box, found one on thievebay for 8 bucks, so it was no big deal.

this is the first open box i have ever got from the egg here, that didn't come with anything, which was a bit surprising, the 3 gigabytes and 2 biostars i have purchased in the past, have came with everything that a new one would.

this shouldn't really be a con, and i really shouldn't complain, got a awesome mobo for 80 bucks, that sales for 200 most of the time :)

Other Thoughts: don't buy this board for full retail price, it is not worth it :), buy open boxed you wont be dissapointed.

Rating + 3 Good board overall

Pros: Rock solid board with tons of useful features. Asus pays attention to details with things like Q connectors (fantastic) and Q shield.

Very nice layout. Tons of SATA and power cables.

Cons: Audio chip does not allow the use of a rear mic together with analog speakers. You have to use a front mic connector which my case doesnt have. I had to buy a Y-adapter. Also, the audio software looks stupid.

The eSATA port in back panel sucks. The Marvell controller Asus used does not fully support hot-swap. (-2 eggs)

Express Gate could be more useful by having some software to repartition drives and things like that.

Other Thoughts: Asus should've used a better controller for a board this expensive. Either that or they should've used an intel sata port on the back instead. Also this Drive Xpert junk needs to die.

The Marvel controller was the only bad thing in an otherwise very good board.

Rating + 5 Great Board for a C2Q

Pros: Well I was a semi noob gong into this build. I hadn't put together computer from scratch, but I had taken a few apart/put back together & own a Mac Pro (Quad Core Xeon/8800GT). I couldn't overclock the Mac & this build was going to be twice as fast for 3/4 of the price.

The Build: C2Q Q9550 @ 3.4Ghz, a Zalman 9500A, 4GB of Corsair Dominators, EVGA GTX 280, Thermaltake Tough Power 750W, 500GB WD Caviar Black.

Overclocking was breeze. I had read up on it quite a bit before I attempted it, but the BIOS the the board uses is great. The 1600Mhz FSB gives you plenty of head room. My RAM was detected at the correct speed with 2.1v & a 1:1 config.

It's been 6 months now & I'm glad I picked Asus.

Cons: One of the sata ports gets covered by the graphics card. What were they thinking? I did not subtract an egg cause the RAID ports are not blocked so you shouldn't run out of ports.

Other Thoughts: Great for a first timer. Well constructed. no DOA. Newegg rocks.

Rating + 5 Thank you for your RMAs

Pros: Excellent boards. I 've built two media center PCs, one server, and three workstations around it for my home. Great layout, excellent overclocking ability, extremely stable. I really like the ability to save bios settings and load them from a flash drive. It made setting up all of these computers much easier and saved me alot of time.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: A big thank you to the people that have RMA'd these boards. I got all them but one at 50% off thanks to you and Newegg's open box sales.

Rating + 5 ASUS satisfies again

Pros: I haven't had any difficulties with this board what-so-ever. Everything on my new build booted right up on the first try.
Haven't messed with OC'ing at all, as I figure going from an XP 2200+ to a Q6600 with 8GB of RAM, I shouldn't have to overclock it, yet! Love the way everything is setup and laid out, and using the Antec P182 case, this is by FAR the cleanest looking machine I've ever assembled. Another ASUS board that doesn't disappoint!

Cons: NADA!

Rating + 3 4 Wasted Ports!

Pros: It POSTED with no problems. A lot of PCIe ports. Good layout. A good backplate was included, not a cheapie.

Cons: The board has 8 ports, one of the reasons I purchased it. Unfortunately, 4 ports won't work unless a RAID array is set up. I have my computer set up in an IDE configuration so I lost 4 ports. I think that this fact should have been mentioned in the board's description, so I took one egg away.

It would have been nice if one external SATA port and one external firewire port was built-in, so I took one egg away.

Rating + 5 Excellent Mainboard

Pros: This is a well made motherboard, just from looking at it the quality is very obvious. Well designed with plenty of room for expansion. Was very easy to work with, and installed flawlessly, I would definitely recommend this board to anyone interested in a top quality P45 board.

It was between this and the Maximus II, I'm very satisfied with my decision.

Fast shipping from Newegg has always.

Cons: I could nitpick, but this is the best board I've ever owned, I don't see the point. I do wish it would have come with some hardware such as screws, motherboard pegs, washers, etc, you can never have enough of those.

Pros: This rivales my old ABIT ip35 pro allmost, twin Lan! great mini pci-e location for AUDIO OR TV card, if pci-e card is in lower position Sync issues happen with tv audio!

Cons: only 1 esata though, only optical out! heat syncs can get in the way of certain CPU coolers!

Other Thoughts: I have tested Crossfire in 3 different motherboards total waste of time after you get into HIGHEND cards you get very little preformance improvement the only game I have seen an improvement in is fear 2 and it is minimal, Crysis and Warhead acutally drops in preformance I went to single card and sold 2 of my crossfire cards and bought a 26" monitor for my studio

Rating + 3 Pretty good BUT!

Pros: Seems to be the same solid build and specs I have come to expect from Asus boards. I like the new BIOS interface on start up and there seems to be many desirable features for the things I do now and for upgrading down the road.

Cons: Does NOT come with the crossfire bridge interconnect cables!!! I am very aggravated by this. I should have checked the pics here on NewEgg before I purchased. My old board fried and so I was in a rush to find a solution. I saw reviews online stating that a cable was included and the box in store (didn't purchase from NewEgg) touted the Crossfire compatibility. This isn't exactly a cheap board and I am used to the more expensive Asus boards having tons of cabling options and extras so I never considered the possibility they would short me the cables needed to use one of the boards featured functions!

Other Thoughts: I actually wanted to get an Nvidia based system but the local retailers didn't have the better Mboards in stock so I decided to roll with the punches and try a Crossfire board. It's been very annoying! I have two cards and can't use them yet because evidently the motherboard manufacturers and half of the video card manufacturers don't seem to be interested in giving you a necessary cable to use one of the main features of the cards! Now I had to order the cables separately and have to hope that the only cable available for purchase anywhere is long enough. I never have this problem with Nvidia SLI boards and am disgusted that after paying so much for the board and the cards that no one mentions clearly that the needed cables are not included. That would have made a major different in my buying decisions!!!
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for this inconvenience but the P5q deluxe does not come with the crossfire bridge. Crossfire bridges are provided by crossfire capable video cards, so we do not include them in our motherboard accessories. For more information, please contact us at 1-812-282-2787.

Rating + 5 p5Q deluxe w Q9650 & DDR2 1100

Pros: nice feature bundle; great overclocker; good value+; onboard dedicated raid separate chip; generally higher quality onboard chips than competitors w same functionality; after market large air coolers fit fine; nice BIOS

Cons: primary graphics slot long card will render one sata slot unusable (likely only affect gamers as need use another 4X slot if need that sata port); my kit came without q connectors ; a bit power hungry; onboard raid (not southbridge) cannot alter stripe size

Other Thoughts: Q9650, gskill 1100 black pi, TRUE, velociraptors; wd black 640s raid 0, WD 2 TB;
running this rig at 3.825 @ 1.2 vcpu and 2 bumps on cpu pll and northbridge; PL 07; ram @ 1133 stays cool & stable ; board OC very well ; can do 4+ Gz easy enough if pumping high voltage; better esata (back io panel) and onboard raid (not the southbridge) chips than Giga & others; (stay away from jmb ); i will likely buy another of these boards

Rating + 5 get good

Pros: Do research on legitimate sites like Anand and HardOCP - this is an amazing board. 4ghz with a Qx6850 at 1.35v idle, Mushkin 1066 at 1200~ stable 24hrs P95. Very little temp fluctuations on NB under load and idle, clean and simple raid, and amazing bios support for every facet of moderate tweaking. The AiSuite actually works - used it once out of curiosity.

Cons: I haven't had any since 8/31/08 when I purchased my build.

Other Thoughts: Um, if you use auto voltages then you shouldn't be oc'ing. If you think this is a fragile board then maybe buy something from the server market idk. I've used easy flash and it worked perfectly, as did the front audio. Have a very clean install with an Antec 900 - the cable routing with this board/case combo is great. I'm not sure what more you want out of a board other than it having full bandwidth over both pci-e in xfire. If it was DOA don't post a 1 star - you didn't use it.

Rating + 3 Shame on you Asus.

Pros: The board has a lot of good advertsied features. After much comparing I purchased it. It seemed to run OK.

Cons: Some of the features do/did not work,i.e., Easy flash, front panel audio, AHCI boot mode. Need I go on. It seems that it was put on the market prior to completion. The MB was sent to Asus 2 times, returned unrepaired. I have lost faith in Asus Tech. They could have replaced or fixed this $ 200 board.

Other Thoughts: I should have bought a Gigabyte MB.

Pros: Good compliment of back panel I/O, excellent board layout and passive heat sinks; EPU-6 does an excellent job of throttling back on power consumption leading to lower MB and CPU idle temperatures.

Rating + 5 Still very happy after 4 1/2 months...

Pros: I waited quite a while before writing anything about this board, because I really wanted to see how it would work out. Well, after 4 1/2 months, I am very impressed with this thing. It has been a fantastic performer for me and has never once so much as glitched. As a testament to the quality and fantastic feature set of this board, it has held it's value all this time...This thing is the Honda Accord of motherboards. The feature set is outstanding, the quality of the components is excellent and the OC ability is exceptional. Just added 8 Gb of memory to this rig and basically didn't have to adjust anything. Basic specs:

ASUS P5Q Deluxe
Intel Q9550 OC to 3.5
8 Gb of OCZ Reaper 1066
Windows XP Pro and Gentoo Linux X86_64

Cons: Not a chance...I could nitpick, but what's the point...it's really an excellent P45 board.

Other Thoughts: Some people have reported problems here...and I am not in a position to refute them...but remember that pretty much 2 kinds of people are motivated to write product reviews on a retail web-site...those that a very unhappy and those that are very happy. Based on that criteria, ASUS created a winner with this board. In the MB business, it's becoming very hard to please everybody...So 4 eggs is pretty impressive.

Pros: Amazing OCin ability. This boards bios has all kinds of options for OCin, some ive never even dealt with. A quick google took care of that. Easy set up. Bios is easy to read through. Using a 280GTX no problems with SATA ports. Raid controller allows easy access to the two ports. RUNS EXTREMELY COOL, NOTICED A 20% decrease in temp.

Cons: ZERRO

Other Thoughts: I havent used the Express Boot yet, I suppose useful if there is a major problem with other hardware. Non yet.
Runs a Q9550 @ 3.5GHZ with ease.

Rating + 4 Good board, bad bios

Pros: Easy to overclock, a good amount of copper keeps things a lot cooler than past fanless cooling attempts by Asus (I had to actively cool my p5wd2-P), on board power and reset switches are nice during building and overclocking, very nice I/O shield.

Cons: I was getting BSODs and lockups like crazy. It was the bios. A quick update and everything is great. Others have reported a lot of issues with the BIOs versions on these boards. Also, another common issue is that you do not have any sound if using the on board sound. For what ever reason the board defaults to the wrong sound port as default? Asus PC Probe is worthless for determining real temps.

Other Thoughts: I wasnt too happy with the physical layout of the board. If you have a longer GFX card, things get really busy in that area. With two PCI-E power plugs into the GFX card, all the SATA inputs, and the various power/reset/etc switch wires all being down in that corner it makes things very interesting for install in my particular case, which has the hard drive rack also located in this area.

Pros: Great board. Easy to install and update bios both thru Windows and with USB drive from within the bios. Updated bios recognized my Crucial Ballistix memory timings correctly. Running with E8500, 4GB Crucial, WD Sata 500GB, 320 Gb pata, and EVGA 260 216 55NM SC video and Corsair TX850 PSU. This system rocks.

Cons: Long video cards tight to some Sata ports. Not much else to complain about. Very stable with Vista Ultimate 32bit.

Other Thoughts: 6th Asus board over many years. Only leave Asus when no other alternative.

Pros: Can't think of any, it does not work.

Cons: I have had two of the boards now, and both were DOA. The first time, I figured any body is going to manufacture a dud every once in a while. But two in a row is just inexcusable. ASUS quality control is abominable.

Other Thoughts: Save your time, get a different board.

Pros: Lots of features quality construction

Cons: I used Corsair Dominator 2x2GB, worked fine for 1-2 months, started having freezing in vista and lockups on boot. Swapped out ATI 4850 with a Nvida GTX260. Freezing stopped for about a week. I am starting to believe I am experiencing memory issues after doing more research. Upgraded to latest BIOS with no improvement.

Other Thoughts: Will be ordering G.Skill memory and hope that resolves the problem. It seems odd to say that I like a board that is driving me nuts but the general board quality seems good.

Rating + 5 Great Motherboard. Highly Recommended

Pros: This board was the easiest board I have ever installed. Flashing the BIOS using a USB memory stick worked great. This is an overclockers dream board. Running it with OCZ PC9600 RAM 4-1GB sticks. Running at 1203 MHz FSB, 400 MHz Bus, and a Quad 9650 @ 3.6GHz. Rock solid so far.

Cons: The SATA connector placement is not the best. I am using an EVGA GeForce GTX280 SSC and it actually overhangs the motherboard about an inch. Right over 2 of the SATA connectors. Luckily they give you 4 SATA cables with 90' connectors. Worked great.

Other Thoughts: You could run dual SLI, but if you did, you would not be able to use any of the other pci/pci-e connectors. They really should include a com port cable and bracket, since the motherboard has 1 com port. You WILL have to tweak the settings to get your memory up to full speed.

Rating + 4 Good board

Pros: This board has been absolutely rock-solid for me. After updating the drivers and Bios haven't had any hardware issues or instability since setting up in early 9/2008.

Cons: The placement of the PCIe 2.0 x16 slots is HORRIBLE.
-If you are trying to crossfire 2 48xx series cards you may well run into trouble. One of them is on the bottom of the board so if you are installing in say an Antec 1200 case, your card will be almost pressed up against the power supply (fitted in bottom of Antec 1200). Furthermore the universal PCIe x16 slot is right below this one meaning if you do crossfire in this puppy you will likely lose this slot as the videocard will basically block it.
-The other PCIe 2.0 x16 slot is in front of the ICH10R SATA connectors and close to the memory, again this limits space for big cards etc...
-ASUS website is absolute garbage...kids in high school classes could design a more usable support site. Also check forums for newer drivers than the website has listed (SoundMaxx drivers are an example of why you'll want to do this)

Other Thoughts: Works fine with:

Rating + 4 Awesome, but not without issues

Pros: Runs great, stays cool, express gate is very nice option for quickly checking intarwebs

Cons: - first PCI-E slot will cover some SATA ports with large video cards
- Either mobo is a bit big or my case is a bit small for mobo
- RAID setup instructions could be a lot better. I ended up giving up. Basically, if you have two hard-drives you want to raid with OS on it, use SATA 1 and 2 ports, and follow the instructions for the Intel ICH10R Raid setup instructions. Otherwise, if you have 3 hard drives, use one for your OS on SATA 1, and put the other two on the special White and Orange SATA ports so you can easily configure them with the ASUS EZ Drive software (or whatever it is called). Manual not helpful to figure this out to this point, only from this point on. After 3rd-4th OS reinstall trying to raid, I gave up. Perhaps I will try again later. I hope this helps someone else. I should note that this was first attempt to set up a raid array on a computer.

Pros: Very capable at overclocking. Ample options even left me wondering what they were a few times. Both gigabit ethernet ports on seperate chipsets. Express Gate really does boot in 5 seconds, and works very well for Googling ideas about voltages while O/C.

Cons: Only one PATA channel on the controller - wish it had two or more, even though this is the trend. Have two legacy drives sitting on the desk now as paperweights. Manual not clear when it says board *requires* 8-pin ATX12V connector, but most people claim 4-pin works in a pinch.

Other Thoughts: Called ASUS regarding technical problem I was having with the board. My technician, Jeff, was extremely knowledgable and was able to tell me what the problem was quickly... in English! +1 for support open on Sat/Sun.

Rating + 5 Awesome board

Pros: * 16 phase power, redundant as it sounds, allows for stable and very fast overclocking (though not recommended anymore)
* good layout overall
* granular voltage and other settings control in BIOS (including safety and temperature color codes when selected)
* solid state capacitors
* pretty blue box
* BIOS 1406

Cons: * Cost?
* two SATA outputs are covered by mid- and high-end video cards
* does not support SLI

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.

I have an Intel Q9650. Despite hearing bad things (parts on the board dying), I opted to try this P5Q-D.

Awesome stuff.

At $200+, it's pricey, but it's VERY stable.

Now overclocking stresses components and people will apply extra voltage to make things stable. As a result, this can, might, and will eventually damage or destroy if the voltage is set too high. If you don't overclock the onboard controller chips to extreme voltages, you are not going to shorten this motherboard's lifespan.

Rating + 4 Good fast mother board

Pros: Noticed that after getting this mother board my windows boot time after login was close to none. good fast mother board. the linux boot is nice but i rarely use it.

Cons: I cant dual boot between and IDE drive and a SATA drive. its hard drive set up is sort of odd compared to other motherboards.

Other Thoughts: a little pricey for what i needed ( which was a new graphics card anyway :P )
