Fast, but audio not compatible with Linux
Pros: If you want a virtual machine server, this motherboard is very good. Add a quad-core CPU and 16 GB RAM, and it can run four virtual machines easily, or up to seven 2 GB virtual machines without too much lag.
Cons: Creative Labs, which makes the SupremeFX sound card, does not support Linux. So if you want a high-end Linux desktop, don't get any motherboard with Creative Labs sound hardware. This m/b has it, which was a huge disappointment. This motherboard is not cheap, but it didn't work out for what I wanted.
Other Thoughts: I wish the Newegg reviews would have warned me that this motherboard's audio is not Linux compatible. I get to use it as a server though, so it's not all bad.

And then it died!
Pros: This motherboard is loaded with BIOS configuration features and has tons of hardware options and advancements. 8 SATA ports, 6-12 USB 2.0 ports, AI Overclocking and so on. Once setup, this motherboard has absolutely phenomenal performance. My boot time on Windows 7 64bit was 6 seconds! My system build (detailed below) had no issues with cooling or air flow. The only BIOS setting I modified was to clock memory at DDR2 1200 (which I had installed, but whatever). The ASUS BIOS auto overclocked my CPU to 3.6Ghz (temps of 18-30C) with no voltage fluctuations or temperature spikes. My system hardware was running on this motherboard as was Windows 7 64bit without a single problem.
Cons: A) Don't install all the ASUS software since there is really no functionality beyond BIOS updating.
B) The Creative X-Fi... Not to beat a dead horse, just install the drivers. Creative offers nothing to the end user since after you register the card there is no software beyond the 30-day limited trial stuff that does not recognize the SupremeFX card.
I purchased this motherboard after reading all the reviews and understanding that there could be "issues".
Other Thoughts: Um, if I could boot the system I could swear the Silicon Image Sil5723 is really a Marvell SATA Controller.
After 3 months of ownership, while smashing on alliance my system blinked off. Literally. My system instantly lost all power and then fans ramped up and no POST. No boot sequence, just the hum of the fans. This motherboard is proverbially dead in the water. I am not very happy about it.
-Antec Nine Hundred -Asus Maximus II Formula MB -Intel E8400 Wolfdale C2D Processor -4GB G.Skill DDR2 1200 (PC 9600) Memory -2xWD RaptorX 150GB HDD's in RAID 0 (on Speeding HDD) -Corsair CHCWH50 Water Cooler (CPU) -HIS Radeon HD 4890 Video Card -Corsair Modular 750W Power Supply -LG CD/DVD Lightscribe Burner (SATA)
I will be starting the RMA process.

I'm Very Pleased
Pros: Specs:
Q9550 @ 4.02Ghz FSB @ 1912Mhz DDR2 @ 1261Mhz ( G. Skill 1200Mhz RAM )
These are the setting I were able to get stable. Almost six months now. Not bad !
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: About the voltage settings. I played with them quit a bit, but I was never really happy with the results. System seemed a little off, I mean I can't put my finger on it. It just wasn't right. So I decieded to just set my ram voltage and the FSB to stable speed and that was it. : )

Great, BUT!
Pros: Great board, a lot of extras, quality product.
Cons: This isn't the BOARDs fault, but if you're wanting to run windows 7-64 bit, think again. Setup/install disk is worthless. Not compatible with this OS. The AI---SixEngine---Probe II----you name it is not compatible with this OS. The best part, I can't even get the 64-bit drivers or apps to run after I downloaded them from the ASUS website. Oh, the best part, that really cool sound card that dose all kinds of stuff...........Nope. Creatives own software sees the card when you register but eveytime you open the console, it says it cant find a supported device!
Other Thoughts: I love this board and I love windows 7, but not together on this build!!! Headack after headack. I wish ASUS would get it together, or that I could talk to someone because I feel ripped of in a since.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We apologize that you're having issues getting this board to work with Windows 7-64 bit. Please contact us at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx or 812-282-2787 and reference case number NE583913 so that we may get more details about your system configuration and assist you in resolving the issues. Excellent mobo
Pros: I love this board! I like the plethora of options in the bios to play with. Not to mention the software that comes with it on DVD. I bought this in mid march and have had zero issues. Gamers rejoice and buy this board right away.
Cons: Eventually I will have to buy a new one once this is outdated.
Other Thoughts: If I wanted to build another gaming rig I would get this board for sure.

Nice Board but my first RMA
Pros: P45 very good chipset and the motherboard does perform very well.
Cons: Marvell Serial SATA ports quit working after trying them just one time. Bios would not recognize the hard drives.
RMA
Other Thoughts: Good board with the DDR 2 memory. P45 chipset is very good.

epic failed in 2 months
Pros: very nice while it lasted grat overclocking
Cons: failed in 2 months. thought it was a power supply issue so i spent 200$ on a 950w corsiar
Other Thoughts: the baord leds will be on shwing it is getting power but as soon as i hit the power button the comp will turn on for litarly a second then turn off and it will continue to do this every time i hit the power button

AWESOME BOARD
Pros: This board is awesome! I got this to replace an ailing Abit AW9D-Max in my wifes gaming rig and this thing blows my rig away. I have an XFX 780i board, 8gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer, Q9400, XFX GTX-285 Black Edition and two WD Raptors in Raid-0 and my wife is running this board, 4gb Corsair Dominator and an E8400, two VisionTek HD3870's in CrossFire and two Seagate 7200 rpm sata drives in Raid-0 and her rig boots faster, runs smoother, and just downright screams. I get about 10 fps more than she does in COD4 and about 25fps better in COD5 (due to PhysX onboard my card) but my board hiccups and it causes me to get killed. I have also had issues with drivers on my board working with certain games and Win7. Her rig is also running Win7 and "NEVER" hiccups or lags and have had no driver issues with any games. If you get this board YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!
Cons: It didnt come with the sink and faucet?
Other Thoughts: Attaching the optional cooling fan for the chipset and the 4pin processor power connector can also was a major pain after the board was installed in the case. However I should note that her processor is being cooled by a Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme that has 120mm fans on each side. Pics of both rigs are available at mayhemincorated dot com in the general gaming forum.

Many Pros, some serious Cons
Pros: Firstly, the motherboard is great, I upgraded from a P6N Diamond and never looked back, the performance on the board is amazing, and everything seems to work ... so far?
Overall, I would recommend that you buy this board, so don't get me wrong.
Cons: First, i seem to have recieved a motherboard where the heatsink above teh CPU has been overtightened onto the board. This has caused the board to have a noticeable bend in the area in the PCB plastic. This is a big worry for me, and the bend is pretty significant. (5 degrees of flex or more). It's visible to the naked eye and otherwise troublesome
Second, the standalone XFI sound card.... is too large to sit properly in the PCI slot. When you insert it, it does indeed fit into the slot, but the other portion of the card, near where the card meshes with the back of the case, hits the motherboard. It is about 3 millimeters too long. Furthermore this protrusion is simply a screw on an extending portion of PCB which is utterly unnecessary, I am thinking about filing it down. But in order to screw it down as is, one has to again, flex the motherboard slightly. I am unable to see the effects as the board is already in the case. (Antec P182 <<< not the issue)
Other Thoughts: The board is good overall. You can tell that it has great overall quality and craftsmanship. The two issues I experienced above.... are odd. I would imagine the first is out of the ordinary. The second... is less of a cause for concern. I called Customer Support to ask them if they had heard of anything like this... but was essentially told to ^%$# off. This may have been because I called Friday afternoon.
From what I understand, ASUS offers cross-shipping on ROG boards, so for all intents and purposes that would cover any of my issues.

14 months of goodness!
Pros: I have had this board around a year now and frankly I am very happy with it. I have been building computers from "parts" since 1985 and this was simply the easiest and best build ever. Super stable, clocks at 3.53 w/no effort other than a software setting. Its tough to find a specific positive when everything works so well for so long - other than absolutely zero problems.
Cons: None. I run a Nvidia 9800 w/1gb (SLI onboard, so its two card in one).
Other Thoughts: I run Vista 64 and (OCZ) 8GB. an Intel Core Duo E8400, Zalman fan, Nvidia 9800 1gb. Antec Nine hundred, etc.
Very very good machine. I would do it all again. This was almost too easy! Back in the 80's & 90's the hobby was - you forcing software to run on the computer you built. Now I just build and enjoy. (thats good right????)

twice the performance
Pros: WOW who knew that upgrading from a Biostar g31m7-te would give me 30 plus frames in World of Warcraft.. when my power supply and mobo fried i bought this thing, only thing different in my setup and its like twice the performance
Cons: does this weird thing on start up where it turns on, (fans spin) turns off then turns on again and all the OC lights on inside cycle like 3 times then a post beep and then it finnally boots up. Might just be my board but sometimes i worry...also as with all P45 (and every intel chipset prior to X58) no SLI, which isnt really a con for me cause what i play dosnt take advantage but it would be nice.
Other Thoughts: Great Board for those of you with lots of 775 hardware and DDR2 ram.

This board ROCKS!
Pros: If you're building an LGA775 system and want to overclock, this is your board! Easy to use. -Beautiful! This board was designed for a clear case. -Overclocked my E5200 (see review) to 3.51Ghz easily & 24/7 stable on stock cooler. -X-Fi sound is amazing -This board is super stable.
Cons: -I did research on the reported NB/SB cooling issue. It's nothing to worry about. You can fix the cooling issue easily, if it happens to affect your board. This forum is an amazing resource. http://forums.pureoverclock.com/showthread.php?t=4932
I used ArcticSilver 5 on my NB cooler as a precaution.... took 30 minutes.
Other Thoughts: Buy this board!!

Great board!
Pros: I would have to say that I was very impressed with this board. I bought it for a system i was building for someone other than myself and had wished i had the board in my system. Not only does it run great but the board itself looks great.
Cons: Doesn't support the newer CPU's (i7) and Memory(DDR3) so technically it's outdated. If they made an i7 version of this board (they may already as i haven't researched it) I would buy it hands down for myself if it had the same quality.
Other Thoughts: Heat sinks on the north and south bridge are pretty high but not too wide so i still had enough room to fit an Asus Cube heatsink in it which was a very tight fit.

The Best DDR2 Motherboard
Pros: This motherboard is absolutely amazing. It is rock solid and so easy to overclock with, I don't even see why anyone would bother with any other DDR2 motherboard! This is just a quality product. I love the sound card that was included as well, I also saved $40 as Newegg just raised the price to $249.99. Great deal.
Cons: Absolutely zero.

Excellent Board
Pros: Board fired up immediately. Lots of need LED lghting. The enclosed card (SoundMax) gave me a little trouble with my dual boot system on the XP side, but, I figured it out (I disconnected the front wire HD audio connection to make the rear ports active for XP and W7). Using a Q6600 with a Sapphire 4870 card. A great improvement over my old bad axe Intel board. I highly recommend to those who would like to stick with DDR2 and save a bit of $$ before taking going to a DDR3 rig.
Cons: None that I know of yet.

The BEST P45 Motherboard
Pros: Full featured, (dual bios, full overclocking options, 2 extra SATA II ports, eSATA on back, dual ethernet ports, etc.), still uses tried and true DDR2, and is very reliable. This also uses the up to date ICH10R Southbridge, that you do not get with X48. One of the best, if not the best, P45 board out there. Recent market price reductions make this a great value. Unless you are going truly extreme on the graphics, I believe the P45 chipset is superior to the X48 due to many "problems" on X48 boards.
Cons: Like many, you may need to remove the NB and SB heat sink assembly and re-apply the thermal paste to keep the temperatures in check, and re-tighten the holding screws on the back of the board that hold the heat sink in place. Some competing boards may offer a higher FSB overclock capability, but they will not have all of the features or reliability this board has shown.
Other Thoughts: This is my second purchase of the Maximus II Formula, and my first one is still going strong after 7 months. (Running a E8400 on that one, with mild 3.5 GB overclock which is stable, on an "open box" unit I got here on the Egg). Now, on the new one, I am running a Q9650 at 3.6 GB stable. (Running this with 2X2 G.Skill 8800 RAM, 2 WD 320 GB RE3s, in RAID 0, and a Corsair HX620 PSU). On both boards, they fired off the first time with NO issues, no glitches, just posted and ran. I could have purchased a new i7 set up, but decided on this because I am getting great stable performance without being on the "bleeding" edge. If you are going with a P45 board, this one is very hard to beat for overall performance. The 775 Socket is not dead yet, and an overclocked Q9650 will give anything out there a run for the money.

ASUS Maximus II Formula
Pros: This is the best MB I have ever owned. It is absolutely loaded with features making it an overclockers wet dream. Right out of the box you just know this is a very special board. Very nicely laid out with loads of connections for almost everything you may want to plug into it (see CONS). I would recommend this board highly to anyone looking for a premium motherboard.
Cons: Well, depends on how you look at it, but you arent gonna run too much legacy equipment with it.. no serial port, no parallel port, no ps2 mouse port (I had to go buy a USB mouse!!!). I guess being on the cutting edge isnt really a con, but I liked my old mouse!
Other Thoughts: Make sure you read the other feedback on this board and get some Arctic Silver 5 under those pretty heatsinks! Also youre gonna want a display window in your case to show off all the little LEDs that flash while booting :)

Solid Board
Pros: + Well Built + Well Packaged + Very Versatile + Good component spacing - plenty of room for memory and other components even with a big Scythe Mugen 2 Infinity cooler. + Onboard heatpipe and heat spreader system to handle heat on the NB and SB. + Discrete soundcard sounds great. + Extreme flexibility in overclocking capabilities. + Exceptional number of on-board fan and temperature probe connections that can be monitored when the system is powered up via the LCD Poster. + LCD Poster connects to MoBo and provides a handy way to monitor NB, SB and overall board temps, as well as the three optional temp probe locations, as well as diagnose startup issues.
Cons: - Poorly applied thermal paste on NB/SB. - Placement of 4pin ATX power connector could have been better, as it was very difficult to access with the CPU cooler in place. - No temperature probes included with the board, unfortunately.
Other Thoughts: Picked this board up as part of a new rig, and went into the purchase aware of the heat issues with the NB, and how poorly ASUS had done with the thermal paste. First thing I did when I received it was pull the heatpipe system off and replaced the stock goop with some Arctic Silver 5. System is up and running beautifully, and I've seen my NB/SB temps trending down over the last few days as the A5 has set. I'd highly recommend this board, but be certain you buy yourself some A5 and replace the almost non-existent amount of thermal paste Asus put on the NB especially.

No board is worth this muh hassle!!!!!
Pros: Same as every other review, but still not enough...
Cons: I was unfortunate unough to get one of the boards that has the heat sink problem so everytime I really get into a movie or game and the temps get high the whole system crashes or freezes. I tried the to fix the heatsink, then I even got asus to take it and fix it, but the problem still persist. No customer should have to go through all that and STILL have a bad board. Don't buy this one! It doesn't really have anything that makes it especially worth it. The overclock program didn't work for me either, so there is nothing that puts this board over its shortcomings.
Other Thoughts: Don't think I'll buy another Asus product after all this.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, The issues you are experiencing might be due to your system configuration. One final word for the P45 King
Pros: This is the last review I'll write for this thing. I just wanted to point out the dual BIOS feature and its worth...it's not something I covered last time. SURE, a lot of people won't even look at that feature when buying, but you have to hear this. Stars aligned against my PC one night when my cat jump onto my desk while I was updating my BIOS. I went to grab my cat, it freaked, and knocked my speaker off the back of my desk onto all my wiring...cutting the power mid-update...my PC was bricked. Tried everything in the book to get it to reboot but nada. I remembered the dual BIOS feature from a previous tech call I made...switched the jumper, and my computer came back to life! I chucked the cat out of the room, resumed the update, and voila! its all good again. I never thought for a second I'd need to dual BIOS, but it came in handy. Just thought I'd share that with everyone. If you want my more detailed review of this board scroll back a few pages.
Cons: Still too expensive...P45s going to the wayside for bigger, faster, better p55/p57 in a couple months.
Other Thoughts: Still runs an E8400 @ 4.0ghz 24/7 like a champ, still runs everything I can throw at it at max. Great MOBO, and I hope the Maximus III will be every bit as great as this one.

Shiznitl
Pros: Lifts a CPU like Sampson Simson(Half Baked)has a great heat pipe design with very easy watercooling hookup(swifttech), has run my q9650 @ 4.45 ghz and benched in Vista 64, 26000 on 3dm06 w/ 2x4890 and 8 gig of G-Skill 6400 Ram, The team who came up with this board shoul get a bouns and a vacation, so that the can do it again later with anothe chipset,
Cons: Not all boards are made like this one
Other Thoughts: Running w/ 2 x 4890s and q9650, 8-gig gskill 6400 and WD320 harddrives in on board raid, Under vista-64 runs flawless @ 4.0 Ghz daily. 4.2- 4.45 benchmarking have the Swifttech max cooler on the heatpipes andtemps for north or south never exceed 120 F in 85 deg room.

Great Motherboard While It Worked!
Pros: While it worked, it worked quite well. MB temps never went above 40C after coming out of Crysis for hours of play. OC'd my E8500 to 3.6GHz without any problems. All my temps were below average per Everest Ultimate's readout.
Cons: After about 10 months, my PC all of a sudden refused to come out of Standby from WindowsXP (which is what I usually do). I held down the power button to reboot, and now the motherboard won't POST. I Attached the LCD readout to the board and the readout only reads (1) Welcome or (2) Shutdown. When I power the motherboard up, only the amber SATA light on the motherboard comes on while all others are off. It's still on even when I disconnect all SATA drives from the motherboard and PSU. I ended up disconnecting everthing from the motherboard and it still does the same thing ... no POST whatsoever, LCD readout says "Welcome" only. All components connected directly to the PSU turn on fine (fans, HDD, DVD-ROM)
Other Thoughts: I RMAd the board and it's nice that I'm getting the replacement first, then this one will be sent out after testing the replacement. However, it's coming from CA (I'm in PA) so it will probably be another week before arrival. I am annoyd that the board just died for no reason, and I was in need of my working PC that week.

OH YEAH!
Pros: This board is smokin fast. I replaced an Abit AW9D Max with this after the cheesy sata connectors decided to break (probably why Abit went under). Running e8200 2.66Ghz overclocked stabil through bios automatically with crazy setting (Yes its in bios) at 3.52Ghz with no bsod in win 7 64bit. Loaded win 7 in raid 0 in under 20 mins.
I cant praise this board enough. Sound blows away most other onboard sound cards and this thing is wayyyyyyyy faster than my other rig running xfx 780i using same ram and q9400 proc.
Cons: Where's the kitchen sink! They threw in everything else!
Other Thoughts: GET IT! You WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

Excellent Asus Customer Service
Pros: I had this board for about 8 months now. Recently developed stability issues will all 4 slots populated (8GB). Called Asus customer service - was offered 'Advance Replacement Program'. Faxed back the required documentation, board shipped by Fedex 2 day. Received a what appears to bea 'BRAND NEW' OEM board. NB chip rev is A3. Performance is flawless.
Cons: Pull-ins still don't work with 2104 bios, hope they fix this on the next release.
Other Thoughts: Again want to thank Asus for no hassle RMA process and extremely fast turn around. Was on hold to talk to an agent about 3 minutes. EXCELLENT WORK. Quality board

Pros: ...
Cons: All but one SATA port stopped working about a month after installation. Review of several sites and reviews reveals that this board has a LOT of SATA problems. Since it had been more than 30 days (just barely), I was out of luck with newegg and ASUS tech support makes dealing with Comcast's notoriously horrid customer support seem like a real pleasure. NB/SB run a little hot, but this is fixable by disassembling, applying new thermal paste (think Arctic Silver - anything less probably won't do the job on this board). Price: on a $250 motherboard, there should never be this kind of problem with the SATA ports, nor should it be necessary to disassemble the board and re-apply thermal paste.
Other Thoughts: I've been using ASUS products for years, but after my experience with this board and with ASUS' bluray drive, I'm so disappointed at the decline in quality that I probably won't touch ASUS again. This board has some of the shoddiest workmanship it has ever been my displeasure to experience when dealing with any company.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We are sorry for this inconvenience. Please let us know if we can assist in the RMA process by contacting us at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx and reference case number "NE367618". Best Regards, ASUS Support Team

not high fsb quad ready
Pros: esthetically pleasing 480fsb was my highest stable fsb overclock Currently on my Gigabyte UD3R I am running 500fsb by 8.5 passing 9 1/2hrs for a full cycle of Prime95 Blend with a Q9650 Bought my UD3R for 200$ less than this board For C2Q 775, I am a Gigabyte converter.
Cons: WAAAY too much $$$ for a board that does not deliver to the quad-core overclocking enthusiast. Bios grammar is still horrible after 8yrs of buying their boards Pullins have still not been fixed Still a hack-job web-site for updates & terribly slow; im so glad I've left Asus
Other Thoughts: For some background, I've been with Asus for the past 8-9yrs. My first board was an Asus 423 socket.
Look for mine in the FS forums
And please, do not give New Egg the rating, its the product you are rating & reviewing. So, if its a good product, rate it accordingly, if its a bad product, rate it however you feel necessary - key word product a.k.a goods, not services by the vendor.

Pros: Great board - high FSB, predictable and understand OCing behavior.
Cons: Price
Other Thoughts: To the genius below - Obviously if the board can handle 1600 speeds it can handle slower than that - duh!

1st board dead, 2nd board awesome
Pros: - Extremely well-designed and well-constructed board. - Relatively easy to install and set up. - Included documentation adequate. - BIOS and configuration options galore. - I would definately recommend to others / would buy again.
Cons: - 1st board arrived dead - would not POST. Was trying to build it on a weekend, apparently no ASUS tech support available. NewEgg quickly RMA'ed the bad board, and new board works great! (Thanks NewEgg!!) - Tall heatsinks on board get in the way of some CPU coolers. - Numerous BIOS options (a pro for experienced users) may be a challenge for the less-experienced... - Included Drivers & Apps CD was unreadable (in the several drives I tried it in). Borrowed CD from a friend with the same board and his was also badly warped but was readable (though it made a horrible sound in my drive and took forever to copy). - Asus Website is very slow and often times-out (if you need updated BIOS, drivers, apps, or want to read forums). - Board runs hot (65c) even at idle (but not much higher even under load). May try reapplying thermal paste (seems to have worked for others), but shouldn't have to do this on new board... - Price is a bit high for a soon-to-be obsolete 775 / DDR2 board.
Other Thoughts: NewEgg great as alwys!

Missing info on specs
Pros: Other Thoughts.
Cons: Other Thoughts.
Other Thoughts: Noticed Newegg left out some information when comparing the board to the one on ASUS' website.
ASUS FSB: 1600/1333/1066/800 MHz Newegg FSB: 1600/1333MHz
ASUS Mem Standard: DDR2 1200/1066/800/667 Newegg Mem Standard: DDR2 1200
Just thought that was kind of odd. Link to ASUS board: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=hOVim24yGru3f3g6&templete=2

Pretty Mobo
Pros: It works and it has pretty LEDs sprinkled all over the board. Looks good in my black windowed Lian Li case.
Cons: The SATA ports are stacked so don't use locking SATA cables with this board.
Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my broken (5 months old) Gigabyte mobo and right off the box, you can tell that this board is of higher quality. It's well thought out and is just built better.

Dont Believe it
Pros: Newegg is Great
Cons: Some one has posted two phoney reviews of a product they never purchased at newegg and may not even own to cover up my scathing review of this product and ASUS service, board would be ok if it worked as advertised and Asus stood behind thair products.
Other Thoughts: Go to ASUS website select downloads try to get what you need from global or US website or just do a search for ASUS s##ks and see many have begun to feel as I do I loved this companys products until recently having to contact and get service directly from them.

bummed out
Pros: It has pretty lights.
Cons: Had to rma first one to ASUS poor onboard nics and audio lots of features kind of work as a systems builder that has used Asus for 8 years gonna go elsewhere for mobos, bandwidth not supplied to ASUS download website to get new updates product and advertising load in a blink.
Other Thoughts: The quality and customer care has slid at asus month after month even advanced rma dept is slow advertised features kinda work tried every avenue to get this across to asus and asus could care less email after email ignored will probably see a form letter apology with contact info posted if newegg posts this so far abandoned the x fi for ht omega claro dumped the onboard nics for a pci nic now it sounds nice and is stable and my download upload speeds are faster and reliable now all I need is some cash for the features I bought that arent reliable that I had to dump.Afraid to try speeding harddrive hearing the nightmares folks have had wish that it was only this product that has this kind of thing more advertising than product.

Pros: this board stays cool beyond believe and this board is pretty sturdy i thought i damaged it a few times but its running fine amazing board and insane amount of options in the bios
Cons: None at all this board is working amazingly for me
Other Thoughts: there was one thing i did which was pretty stupid but just letting ya'll know incase you happen to do it make sure you check each screw on the motherboad that the ground is there i had one ground missing near the usb connector and it kept giving me the message USB device over status detected just took that screw out and fixed it lol

Fantastic motherboard!
Pros: Just about everything under the sun. Options galore.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: This needs a PSU with an 8-pin P8 connector. Be careful when shopping for a power supply. In the third picture you can see what appears to be a 4-pin P4 connector in the lower left of the motherboard, but upon receiving the motherboard and reading the manual, there's actually a black plug that is covering up the additional 4-pins.

Great board
Pros: Board layout is efficient, two bios chips makes overclocking much less of a hastle, and it comes with all the essentials. Looks arent bad either. Asus utilities it comes with is not the best, but the bios update options are worth mentioning.
Cons: Board temperatures were initially higher than i would have liked (~65-75c) due to poorly applied thermal paste. My pc was running fine under those temps, but it should have been lower. Reapplied thermal grease (AC5 or noctua stuff, cant remember) and it lowered max board and chipset temps to ~40-45c - much better). Not a deal breaker - but extra trouble nonetheless.
Other Thoughts: Two bios chips makes updating your board and overclocking a pleasant experience. Im very happy with this board.

No better DDR2 board
Pros: I could go on and on about how amazing this board is OCing options out the wazoo, bridges stay insanily cool, best placement of sata conectors i've ever seen (no card will ever cover them up), and of coarse the board just looks like it will kick your face off, but i will not go on about how awesome this board is, I will just tell you to buy it and you will never think about another board ever again....... Well untill you go i7
Cons: None, None at all, if any one complains about this board I will find you......
Other Thoughts: Plenty but none i want to share at the moment

King of the Gladiators!
Pros: This is hands-down the sturdiest, most powerful, most useful, best-looking, fastest, coolest mobo I have ever owned.
I overclocked a Core 2 Quad 9550 to 3.5 GHz and the temperature didn't go up!
Cons: Sound Blaster XFi software that comes with the board won't activate with the license key provided, even though it's listed as a feature of the board. All of the drivers installed and work, but the software console is only a 30-day trial until the SB XFi license activation issue is worked out.
It's not worth losing an egg over if that's the ONLY issue I have with this otherwise marvelous card.
Other Thoughts: If it was a person, it'd be a super-hot Olympic gymnast with an IQ of 160 and a serious geek fetish.

Great board
Pros: Lots and lots of settings available. I really like the dual bios and the bios boot priority. It has 7 fan headers for the fan freaks. The board is pretty much plug and play. I missed hooking up the 4 pin power header hideing behind the cpu. This is very important if you want to post! So don't forget it. I can see alot of RMA's from missing this plug.
Cons: I lost my bios 1 after useing an asus utility called cpu level up. I will never use a utility to over clock my cpu again. Huge mistake. It trashed my windows and crashed my bios 1 to no return. Newegg RMA'd the board and i had it the very next day. I wouldn't blame the board i would blame Asus's software. Beware of it! The sound card is below average and requires all this useless, memory eating, software to run. I used my old sound blaster Audigy in a pci slot. Much Much better!
Other Thoughts: My new board runs very nice and i Manually over clocked my E8500 to 3.8 with 400fsb and 1.16 vcore. I can boot fine off of both bios's which is a relief. I didn't run into any heat problems with the north bridge like some have said. They must have fixed the issue.

Fantastic
Pros: Great mobo! Hands down the best I've owned. Great overclocking abilities, very nice selection of BIOS options, runs cool, stable, and it's absolutely a beauty!
Cons: Are you kidding me?
NONE!!!!
Other Thoughts: Overclocked my Q9550 easily to 3.4ghz with barely touching and upping voltages. Ran stable for 14+ hours(although, more should be done, IMO) Overall, a superb product by Asus. If you're looking for a board with great features and possible no budget in mine, BUY IT! No questions asked.

Rock Solid board
Pros: Great stock board cooling. Overall a very solid board, and a great last stop before making the final plunge into the i7 and DDR3. So many overclocking options that your head can start to spin. I have installed 15 of these in computers for ppl now and there has not been a single problem or DOA as of yet. I LOVE the CMOS reset on the back of the board by the USB's so you can clear the CMOS without cracking the case during OC tests.
Cons: While the onboard heatsink does a really good job at keeping the bridges cool on air, they do get in the way of some of the cpu coolers fastening clips. It hasnt been a real problem to get around, just be aware of it.
Other Thoughts: So far this mobo has been pretty amazing. I personally dont use side view cases because after doing this for years I dont wanna look at mine anymore! However, they did a really good job with it. The heatsinks for the bridges light up which is really asthetically pleasing, and even I will admit it looks really nice with watercooling and proper lighting.
Also they put protective plastic over the solid parts of the mobo heatsinks to keep them shiny, but dont instruct you (that I saw anyway when I skimmed throught he book) to remove it, make sure you do!

Pros: Once It's all said and done It's a very nice mobo. Overclocking options galore. Its still a bit pricey but hey, you get what you pay for.
Cons: Was a bit tough to get working. The SDD Isn't working properly so I can't use that.
Other Thoughts: I'd rate It a 7.5 outa 10.

Great Board
Pros: This was my first PC build so I am not the most knowledgeable person but this board has been great. Everything iruns cool and was easy to update bios. The software that came with it is nice. I have yet to OC as I still have a stock fan and really dont need to.
Cons: None except it could always be cheaper. Had one problem with my build my CPU was not running correctly. This was not caused by the board at all, but the ASUS customer service is pretty bad. Every time I called I had to leave a message with my name and number. Most of the time I was hung up on and only was able to leave my name and phone number once to a person.
Other Thoughts: Great product Asus I also like the lights it has on it. Looks good through the clear side of my case. Also I did not buy this from newegg, due to with shipping it was just a lil more expensive at the local store and I could return it if I needed to much easier. Other then that Newegg is the best.

Fantastic board....
Pros: I fell in love with this board shortly after I got it. If you aren't familiar with overclocking or BIOS settings in general, it can be a bit daunting, but there is literally nothing you cannot do with this thing. By and far the best board I have had as of yet. I have always been a fan of ASUS boards, and this one really cinched it for me. The flexibilty is just amazing. I do like the AISuite software as well. But I've had this board for some time now, and it has performed flawlessly. Much more than I can say for some other boards I've had.
Cons: Not a single complaint.
Other Thoughts: I do wish I had been able to find the extreme version with the liquid cooling block for the chipset, but to be honest, it runs quite cool with the copper sinks that it came equipped with.

Nice board
Pros: Take this like a grain of salt. Some personal opinions and and experience.
I'm happy with it but that's PO.
I've been able to reach 480fsb but from what I've read over at XS the bios needs work for 500+fsb. Currently at 1901. Running a Q9650 on water. Nice features. Wish it had 2oz copper like the Gigabyte boards.
Settings for my Q9650 with 480fsb & 8.5 multi: 1.36875 vcore 1.55300 PLL 1.36500 fsb termination 1.51075 NB
***do not use this as a guide; every board and cpu differ***
Cons: The UD3P board can do 500fsb from what I've been reading for way less $$$
Asus, get your quality control and bios in gear :) Thank You
Other Thoughts: Still all in all Great features.

Boo!! Asus!
Pros: It doesn't consume much energy, but that's probably because it won't boot.
Cons: Umm... it won't boot. 5 years ago Asus quality was unmatchable. Now? My P5N32-E SLI board bareley made it past a year, and now this Maximus is DOA. Might be time to look at another brand.
Other Thoughts: Hey Asus guys, computers don't break only between 8am and 6pm Monday through Friday. Your customers pay good money for your products, you may want to consider providing some quality customer service to go with that.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We are sorry to hear about your situation. Fortunately, your board is covered under our ASUS Premium Service program, which provides an advance replacement for your defective product to minimize downtime. So if you require warranty service, please contact our customer service department at 510-739-3777 or for more information visit: livesupport.asus.com/APS. Best Regards, ASUS Technical Support Team

Amazing!
Pros: A bit overwhelming at first but once you get used to it there is nothing you can't do to overclock. This is by far the best MB I have ever owned and I have owned alot of them. This has been a problem free MB from the start! Asus and Newegg....what a combo! Don't hesitate to buy this MB. I feel that if someone is having a problem after buying this MB, that they did something wrong and am blaming the MB, this is as solid a board as you can buy.
Cons: NONE!
Other Thoughts: You need to take your time with this BIOS. There are so many variables that it will take some time to learn what all they do. It's worth it though, you can tweak anything imaginable and you don't have to open the case to reset, an awesome feature!

Worked great for a long time till I upgraded
Pros: Worked great for a long time till I bought a Q9650 and a few HD's and things and upgraded.
Cons: It worked great for me for a long time till I tried updating to their newest BIOS and putting 3 Raptors in a RAID 5 and a new WD 1 Terrabyte RE3 drive into it in what was a flawless at the time Vista X64 setup, now I cant even get it to recognize my optical drives at the moment.
Ive probably had too long to RMA its really miffing me off I have my wifes comp running great with other things Ive used cant even get the system to load Vista atm.
I even made a bootable USB drive of here comp I have running for loading vista 32 just to get an operating system and it just gives me the dreaded BOOTMGR is missing stuff now.

Shut Me Down
Pros: Fast, loaded with features, great looking, generally good layout, . Plenty of overclocking options to tweak for maximum performance. Recentness of BIOS updates show that ASUS continues to support this board.
Cons: I am running Windows XP on the Maximus II Formula and when I turn off the computer from Windows, WindowsXP closes and the monitor goes off but my motherboard is still powered up (green light showing it has power going to it) and I can still hear fans running inside the unit. After having this discussion on the forum it was discovered that if I disabled the “IDE/eSATA” parameter in the BIOS the unit would shut down properly. However, I am also told that I should not have to disable this function. If I disable the “IDE/eSATA boot ROM”, the unit locks up after Windows boots up.

NICE GREAT OCing board
Pros: GREAT OC q9550 4.02 @ 1.275/470/8.5 multi ( prime 24 hours ) i can probably go lower and will after my current setting @1.26v.. but still priming and at around 16 hours mark with this setting. GREAT board lots of features and more. one of my fav things about this board is that there is barely mininum to none vcore fluctuation which i believe is keeping the settings so stable. all i can say is if you want a 775 board get this... you won't regret it. there are forums out there with HUGE threads on this board with optimal oc settings if you don't know where to start.
love the people out there with this board with all the help for my basic settings.
Cons: no cons... hum.... is there? .... nope .... wait... hum.....
thinking....
nope none...
just get it if you want a 775 board.
Other Thoughts: just buy it and you will realize it wasn't a waste ... i know 250 for a 775 board is high, but after purchasing it and using it... WOW ...
upgraded from a abit p35 pro q6600
so much faster ... q6600 is nothing compared to this setup

awesome board!
Pros: Just awesome! Didn't have to do any of the modifications to the NB like I've read in some reviews. I must've gotten lucky! The NB temps have been around 44-45c while I've been installing all my applications and games so far! Love all the features and love how it's running well on Vista 64!
Cons: I wish it had support for SLI... but still good! I'll just have to switch to ATI one of these days.
Other Thoughts: The soundcard was a bit useless for me but still a nice bonus for people wanting a quick PCI-E audio card!

Northbridge Overheating!
Pros: sexy looking with lots of features, the bios is very good and has lots of options for overclocking, not that i have been able too as of yet!
Cons: the north bridge was heating to 82c out of the box! i was flabbergasted. all other indicators were running relatively cool, south bridge at 27c and Processor at 21c, but the north bridge was screaming! i found out after doing some research online that the cooling paste and/or heatpipe/heatsink assembly on the chipset is somehow inadequate! removed the whole assembly and stock heat compound, reapplied some arctic silver and tightened the assembly extra tight and everything was running cool, including the north bridge at a nice 30c, alot better then 82c at Zero load!. if you get this board be ready to do some extra handy work!
also one of the RAM sockets produces memory errors! it took a few bsod's and a memtest to narrow that down. i would RMA the board but ya know what i can still play crysis smooth as butter with all settings max and thats with no overclocking yet, this thing better not give me any more trouble or its being sent back!

SupremeFX X-FX must be in right slot
Pros: *Easy install *Clean layout *X-Fi audio included!!
Cons: *Installation of SupremeFX X-FX audio card was tricky
Other Thoughts: I thought at first I had a defective audio card that came with this motherboard, then I thought maybe my optical-out audio connection wasn't properly set up. THEN I thought I had the settings on my computer weren't set right. It was a combination of a couple things.
Basically, you NEED TO HAVE THE SUPREMEFX X-FX AUDIO CARD PLUGGED INTO THE BLACK PCI-E 1x slot. It will not work if plugged into the other two white Pci-e 1x slots. I did not see this in documentation. This also might be standard procedure... I wouldn't know, this is my first pci-e 2.0 mobo. Anyway, if you are not getting sound, make sure you have it plugged into the right slot!
then, in windows make sure you have high defintion output selected if you are using optical-out :D
Other than that note, GREAT mobo! Works like a charm in tandem with my new GeForce 260!

SO SEXXXY!!!
Pros: AWSOME!! Pretty, sexxy, and it just rocks!! Well layed out. Plenty of options in the BIOS. RAID worked flawlessly. Paired with 2 GTX 280s, 12gigs RAM, Vista Ultimate. Can't say enough!
Cons: It's not mine!
Other Thoughts: Built this for a client of mine. He was just floored when he came to pick it up. Just every thing, this is by far the most incredible system I have ever built. BUY-IT!

To have it, is to love it
Pros: First of all--- it worked right out the box! and the bundled software on the disk is pretty nice too. There are so many more OC'ing features on this MB than my Striker Extreme had, there are just too many to mention. It looks clean and functional without all the flashy gizmos that were on the SE board this replaced. LED's that give you pertinent information, and a nice sound card too.
Cons: The X-fi sound isn't recognized by some of the games I play, but it still sound great. You will likely want to replace any non-crossfire vid cards, as this board will not support SLI in any way shape or form, but it never said it would. Some Logitech KB and mouse drivers have been a problem, but using Windows defaults works just fine. Only 1- full 16X PCiE slot.
Other Thoughts: This MB C2Q 6600 2 Gb DDR2-1066 OCZ Ram Asus 4850 TOP video PCP&C Silencer 750 PS (Red) Samsung 2232BW Plus Monitor

Best Asus Board I've Gotten Yet
Pros: The entire board looks beautiful, and even though the pics make it seem like alot of heatsinks may have issues, I can't imagine they would, I fit four different ones on there. 6 Fan heads, all USBs at the bottom, perfect for anyone running a large graphics card. Took an E8400 to 4.6ghz without even a voltage change and running on air stable. I didn't dare try to run it higher. Idled around 46C, prefer cooler so mild OC to 400FSB for 3.6ghz easy.
Cons: None really, the BIOS will confuse alot of beginners.
Other Thoughts: E8400 @ 3.6ghz, Corsair 4GB DDR2-800, WD Black 640, Asus M2F, EVGA260 55nm on a TX750

Pretty cool board here
Pros: The motherboard is really feature intensive. The bios has many, many options that I haven't seen before, but seem pretty inuitive. I was able to get the OC I was going for right off the bat.
Cons: None of the ASUS software that was packaged or linked on the website was compatible with the new Windows 7 Beta, so it looks like I'll stick with Vista for a while.
Other Thoughts: When I picked up the package I thought the outside container was way to big for a motherboard, but the actual ASUS container inside was huge! Much bigger than your normal motherboard box. Not a con, but just not what I expected.

Fantastic MOBO.
Pros: Looks great, love the heat-sinks and underneath pipes all across the board. Plenty of USB, the eSATA is a plus, dual gigabit is also great.
The BIOS setup is one of the best I've seen so far, and overclocking my Q9550 was a snap as expected and its holding the OC stable (its a mild OC though).
This is my first "high-end" motherboard purchase ever (as my previous board was a P5K-E with an E8400) and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Anyone looking for a solid, stable, overclockable board, with great features and great looks, look no further then the Asus Maximus II Formula Mobo.
Cons: NONE.
Other Thoughts: My setup:
Intel Q9550 OC'ed to 3.2GHz, 8GB OCZ DDR1066 Memory, 2x ATI Radeon HD4870 in CrossFire, Vista Ultimate x64, dual boot with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Build 7000, 64GB OCZ Core V2 Series SSD, 1TB Seagate HDD.

Nothing against NewEgg.. Don't buy this board.
Pros: Will never know.
Cons: Received first one around the 23rd of December. Put together a few days later, wouldn't post. After hours of stripping it and removing and retrying I finally noticed when I put pressure on the North Bridge heat sync it would boot. Soon as I pulled my finger off, it died. RMA'ed it and New Egg was great. Got my other one today, exact same problem. Done a search on the internet and discovered that this is a common problem with this board. Just google "asus maximus II formula screws" and you'll see the many discussions on this problem. Apparently you have to tighten the screws up on the back of the mb because the heat sync doesn't seat right because the springs already on the screws are too lose. Of course not everyone is going to have this problem but I'm two for two. Calling NewEgg in the morning and I assure you I won't be exchanging for this board again. Again, props to NewEgg. Couldn't ask for better customer support on getting this replaced the first time...
Other Thoughts: Have to wait till morning to report this one.

Rock Solid
Pros: Fired up on first try, with 1702 BIOS and an E8400. I love the dual BIOS chips, and updated to 1901 BIOS in 2 minutes with EZ Flash. Initial board temps were very cool, (but re-seated sinks anyway). The remote Start button on the board was handy to run an initial check out. No issues so far, and running smooth with no BSDs, or lock ups. There are a lot of great "bells and whistles", and I am looking forward to some overclocking now.
Cons: Seems there have been a few "growing pains" with the numerous BIOS revisions, but ASUS seems active to address all the issues. The Sound Card has mixed reviews, but I am using an HT Omega Striker anyways.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this from Newegg as an "Open Box" unit. In my opinion, the board had not been used at all, with new plastic coating on the heatsinks. ASUS was kind enough to send me the IO Panel free of charge. (Thank you ASUS!) I am just using a 7900GT and DDR2 800 RAM, (2 Gb) for checkout, until my new Vid Card and RAM arrive. I could not be more pleased with this Motherboard.

Superb enthusiast board, but not perfect
Pros: Fast, stable, loaded with features, great looking, generally good layout, and the LCD Poster comes in handy for monitoring temps (if you add the probes). Plenty of overclocking options to tweak for maximum performance. Recentness of BIOS updates show that ASUS continues to support this board.
Cons: Board supports temp monitoring probes but doesn't include any or even tell you where to buy them. Power/Reset buttons and BIOS jumpers are located at the bottom - very inconvenient if you have cards in the lower slots. OPT_FAN1 connector is underneath sound card, and OPT_TEMP3 connector is so close to sound card bracket that it almost shorts out. Unlike P5Q Deluxe, this board doesn't have any backplate reinforcement to reduce bending - the stock Intel heatsink bends my board enough that the top VRM heatsink loses contact with some of the modules.
Other Thoughts: Although I didn't have problems with the NB/SB heatsink, there have been enough reports of poor contact and high temps to make me worry about it. I wish the sound card had DTS Connect or Dolby Digital Live encoding for its digital outputs (earlier ASUS boards did). LCD Poster can display all temps except the all-important CPU - a rather dubious oversight if you ask me.

Bad Board-don't buy !
Pros: Beautiful Looking Board
Cons: Does not boot. Maybe ASUS could give me some tech support. Sure don't see any in the manual or online. No beeps, only thing that happens is the board lights up and the fans spin. Only thing that tells me is the Power supply is good.
Other Thoughts: Wish the manual were more helpful, and the board wasn't dead. I have never had a board do this to me. This has been my first ASUS in about 10 years. Now I remember why.

A board for a more civilized age
Pros: As stated in other reviews, a lot of this board is looks. Very presentable with a windowed side door on a case. Had no problems with any of the install other than trying to get a bluetooth mouse installed without a wired mouse or a port for one.
Two ethernet ports allow the computer to be a server for a LAN party from what I understand.
Cons: Bus heat sinks allow limited space for 3rd party CPU heat sinks.
Other Thoughts: BIOS was very neat I thought. One of my first times dealing with it and it was very understandable.

Yet again ASUS makes an awesome board
Pros: I received this board as a Christmas gift (purchased from Newegg) along with a Q9550. The board has lots of overclocking potential thanks to the great BIOS. The 8 SATA ports will come in handy later, but the board also includes a PATA channel for legacy drives and a floppy channel for those still clinging to that wonderfully immortal format. The board is very logically laid out, with expansion slots in all the right places - my 4870 only blocks one of the PCI-E x1 slots and none of the SATA ports. The board was a breeze to set up, notwithstanding some niggling RAM issues. The Start and Reset buttons on the board are quite handy during the setup process. The board is well set up for future upgrades, thanks to the versatile P45 chipset. The included software suite is great, especially the EPU-6 power management software, which can control fan speed and CPU clocks automatically for a great balance of heat/quietness. The included sound setup is also high quality - music playback is great.
Cons: None. Intel stock heatsink is a PITA to get on.
Other Thoughts: I haven't used the LCD Poster yet, but I'm sure it will come in handy if and when I overclock.
System: Maximus II Formula Q9550 @ stock ASUS 4870 1GB 2GB OCZ DDR2 800 WinXP Home

Great Board
Pros: Built a completely new system using this board in less than two hours. No dead ports, no issues, booted right up.
Cons: Would have preferred straight SATA ports (not angled). Not a big deal.

Hmm
Pros: Not for sure yet. Will change rating when I get a chance to test one that works
Cons: Spent the better part of the day stripping my old system out of my Antec case to put this new one in. Got everything in there to perfection and finally decided to boot up. Nothing. Just a split second of fans. Thought it was my psu so I tested with the one that just came out of the case and still the same problem. I pulled out everything and even the heat sync then reapplied the heat sync. The board posted and I thought wow, everything is fine. While loading xp, I just wanted to make sure the tabs on the sync were tight so I double checked everyone with a little bit of pressure. Comp shut off and when I got it back up I got this error: opt fan 3 over temperature!! Something definitely is not right about that. Got it to where it wouldn't do that anymore and started trying to reinstall xp. While formatting the drive, I stuck the ethernet cord in. Comp instantly went off and got the same error again. Anytime you plugged anything in the back, that error occurs. I give up.
Other Thoughts: Ran out of room above. Not for sure if the board is damaged or not but the power on prongs we're bent right out of the package. Been a while since I've ordered a motherboard but I've always received screws before. None came in this box.

Great Board
Pros: Very nice layout, P45 chipset, very nice high end mobo. Esata is a nice feature. Very easy to set up. This is my second ASUS board and I am very pleased with them both. Well worth the money.
Cons: no that I have seen so far
Other Thoughts: I have a 9800 gtx video card that is huge and it fit perfectly. If your thinking about getting it, go ahead you will like it.

Great motherboard, no problems
Pros: Went together very nicely, lots of features, did not experience any excessive heat problems with the southbridge or northbridge. Runs quite cool in the listed configuration, but then I am not a big gamer. Everything worked as it should. Fairly quick, more limited by the hard drive then the rest of the system.
Cons: Had a CMOS error when first booted, was able to go into the bios, saved the settings and it then booted with no problems. LCD poster was of little use.
Other Thoughts: System build: ASUS Maximus II Formula, Intel Q9550, Artic Cooling Pro P7 with artic silver paste, Zalman ZM750-HP, Corsair 2x2 meg TWIN2X4096-8500C5D, ASUS ENGTX260 video, multiple WD hard drives, Pioneer DVD DVR-216DBK, Antec P182 Case and Vista 64. Nice, quite and quick.
Ended up building a second system about a month later using the i7 920 with a ASUS P6T deluxe motherboard and 2x3gb of 1600 DDR3 for just a little more. Most of the cost was the DDR3 memory, and the i7 was cheaper than the Q9550. Clocked the i7 system up to 3.2 mhz, and there was plenty more, it smokes the Q9550. For a little increase in cost, I would go with the i7 and ASUS P6T. If cost is an issue go with DDR3 1 gb x 3 of 1600 and look for some of the sweet combo deals.

Great Motherboard by Asus
Pros: Posted on first boot. P45, lots of overclocking options, tons of features, great heat management (when re-installed correctly). Very sexy looking mobo. Works really well now with the 1802 Bios. Comes with a very nice sound card, and it glows...ooooooo... and lots of the stuff on the motherboard glows too O.o ooooooooooooo..
Cons: You will most likely need to reapply the thermal paste for the heat sink, north bridge, and south bridge. You might also need to put washers on each screw when putting the heat sink back on to pull the heatsink tighter to the motherboard (I didn't have to, but I did re-apply thermal paste with arctic cooling mx-2.) It's somewhat of a con, because you shouldn't have to do this, but if you love to tweak and mod, this shouldn't stop you from getting this amazing product. It's not enough of a con for me to take an egg away.
Other Thoughts: NB and SB temps are 45 C idle and 47 load, I am highly impressed with these temperatures. Got my Core 2 Duo E8500 to 4.0Ghz. This mobo looks amazing, and the performance is impressive. I highly recommend it.

Edit review dated 12/10/08 vy Fitz
Pros: See last review
Cons: Northbridge temps. Fix is a pain, but seems to work. See ASUS website Forum.
Other Thoughts: I replaced the 2 Raptor hard drives, getting rid of the RAID 0 and installed a 300 GB VelociRaptor. So far, all is well. Either one of the hard drives was going bad, or the on board RAID controller was (is) faulty. Since I was running the same drives in the same config on my previous computer (Nvidia) with no problems, and have the same problem on two different Maximus II boards, I'm leaning toward the motherboard. Reconfiguring the BIOS from SATA RAID to SATA IDE seems to have worked. Performance is awesome. Didn't even try the Marvell Ethernet - stayed with the PCI-e Intel card.
Removed the heatpipe assembly and removed the foam spacers on the Northbridge. At idle, temp is about 50C. Under load (Futuremark 3D Vantage) 63C. Better than it was, still warmer than I'd like. Initially, I was getting overtemp shutdown on bootup (80C plus), after adding washers to rear of NB hold down screws, temps went to 71C under load- now down to 63C

Great potential, has problems
Pros: Great overclocking features, BIOS very in depth, yet easy to use. Good board setup, lots of room. So far, ASUS support has been very good.
Cons: First board RMA'd for dead SATA port. Second board- heatsink doesn't make good contact with Northbridge chip. Had to add 2 washers to hold down screws on back of board, plus Arctic Silver to heatsink. Temps went from 71c at idle to 52c. Still warm, but workable. Lots of post about this problem (ASUS forums). Marvell Ethernet problematic - multiple Windows Event errors, dropped connections under load (games). Disabled, removed drivers, replaced with Intel 10/100/1000 PCI-e card- no more problems. Having some issues with system hangs- ordered VelociRaptor (300GB) to replace 2 X 74GB older Raptors (RAID 0) in the hopes that the problem is with the Marvell RAID or one of the hard drives...we'll see. So far, not impressed with the Marvell features of the board.
Other Thoughts: I hope ASUS issues a revision of this board to take care of the Northbridge heat issue. This board has a lot of potential, but needs some work to make it worth the money.

another masterpiece
Pros: this board is beautiful....... some times i force my self on it mmmm
Cons: my old board would let me lower my timing down to 4-4-4-12 on my corsair dominator sticks at 1066 but this board doesn't like it. but i did get my ram speed up to 1183 on this board at 2.15v hehehehe
Other Thoughts: Maximus ll formula FSB (1775) stock v on board wolfdale e8400 at 4.GHz / 1.3v corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5D at 1183/ 2.15v visiontek 3870x2 at 850 MHz core and 931MHz mem baraccuda 3.Gb/s 500Gb x2 holly shyzza......

Second RMA
Pros: Looks nice, still awaiting a board that works. See Cons. If i were not stuck in the loop of RMAs right now and would have returned it to Fr@s within the 15 day period, I would have went X58 for sure
Cons: Second RMA, First time install, Raid would not work with 2 WD Velociraptors 300gigx2, on any sata port. No speeding Hard drive and No Intel Matrix Raid Utility. The first RMA return took 2 weeks. The second one I just recieved today, was DOA, would not post to BIOS at all. tried every trick in the book including power on w/o any other devices. LCD Poster still read Power Off. Switched out a brand new PSU same thing. All my componants are brand new and verified GOOD. I even sent back a q9450 from the first go round thinking it may have been a part of the problem. Put a new e8500 in and wala!
Other Thoughts: So I dont want to bash ASUS because i have always had good luck and heard the support was second to none. I just want others to be aware if you have the same issues what to be prepared for. I will post again after second RMA is processed.

Great Board
Pros: This Board has it all. I upgraded from an Asus board with P4 chip to this board with Core 2 Duo. What a difference. The heatsinks on this board keep it very cool under load. The Six engine is a great tool to save power or to ramp up the CPU for gaming or Video encoding if you don't want to manually set it up in the BIOS. I value the fan control for it's ability to keep the fans quieter than the hardrives under normal load and then ramp up when needed.
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: Went to Asus webite and dowloaded all updated drivers and Bios. Everything loaded and works fine.
Overclocked my E8400 to 3.4 stable with the Ausus Trition 85 CPU cooler. I plan to upgrade to quad core when prices come down.

Amazing Board
Pros: This board does everything but take the garbage out for me!! It has LED's to let you know the condition of the voltage on each part and has a BIOS reset button on the outside so if you have any issues with your over clocking or tweaking all you do is push a button. This board has every tweak imaginable and even many that have never been thought of to boot. ASUS outdid itself once again.
Cons: Read the manual before you do anything.
Other Thoughts: This board is as complicated or as easy as you can go depends on what you want to get in to. This motherboard is absolutely insane.
