Great until Windows 7
Pros: Worked very well with Windows XP, HDMI was great, supports multiple monitors with ease.
Cons: After installing Windows 7 the HDMI out is next to worthless. The screen flickers constantly and the audio pops. Latest BIOS, graphics drivers, audio drivers, still no solution. VGA works fine still but its not what I want.
Other Thoughts: Wait until this issue is fixed or get a different motherboard. Kinda worthless as a HTPC if you cant use it with an HDTV. And ASUS needs to boost upload speeds for their chipset drivers.

DVI stopped working at 11months
Pros: pretty good for onboard graphics - I could play tf2 pretty well.
Cons: DVI port jsut stopped working at 11 month mark! The heck is that all about? Not even a year? To be clearer, this thing has like 3 fans in it's case and it's a fairly cool board anyway. Do I need to exclude ASUS and ACER from all hardware purchases now?
Other Thoughts: Been a Win7 machine it's entire life (beta, etc) and never had the issue everyone else is talking about. Not sure what their issue is.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. Please contact us at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or 812-282-2787 and reference case number NE611298 so that we may get more information about your system configuration and assist you with resolving this issue. almost perfect
Pros: all the integrated graphics and audio power I need for watching iTunes, DVDs and Youtube videos at full HD resolution
Cons: would have liked a 6th internal SATA port, and to have known ahead of time that the user manual mentions that the bios does not like SATA optical disc drives. They print that fact at the end of the manual
Other Thoughts: I like that the installation manual advises you to only install 3 GB of RAM when running a 32 bit OS so that you don't have problems with a 4th GB of RAM going unused or wasted.

Awesome for HTPC
Pros: Passive cooling of northbridge HDMI Optical SPDIF Supports nVidia's VDPAU for awesome 1080p playback Works flawlessly with XBMC (Live, on top of Ubuntu Linux)
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Some people are saying they're having flickering problems with HDMI. I have not. But, it seems they're running Vista, so maybe it's a driver issue? The first thing I did was download and install the latest BIOS, so I can't speak to anything that may have fixed.
I'm using this in my HTPC, and it works perfectly. I have a 5300 and I cool with an after-market HSF. Make sure to set the fan speed control in the BIOS setup, and you'll have silence (assuming you have a quiet cooler.) My rig is hard drive-less. I boot from a USB key in about 30 seconds, but that's even rare -- I usually just suspend and resume. Fast. Quiet. Beauty.
Running XBMC Live 9.11 beta 1.

Pros: When it isn't flickering over HDMI, it is a great board!
Cons: This is mainly why I am writing the review. I was running Vista x64 on this for just under a year with no problems over HDMI to a Olevia 242TFHD 42" LCD. After upgrading to Windows 7 x64, I get random flickering lines and a flickering screen. I actually noticed this in Vista too about 2 weeks ago when I upgraded my nVidia drivers to newer ones. Rolled back after the flicker started and it was fine. So I'm pretty sure this is purely driver related. Looks like ASUS ackwowledges it so looking forward to my Windows 7 fix!

Update
Pros: See my earlier review.
Cons: HDMI output definitely has a noise problem. After posting my earlier review, I saw Briggs' review. Taking his advice, I bought (an overpriced) DVI to HDMI adapter locally, moved my TV to the DVI output, and the every-one-second tiny horizontal lines flashing on the TV were gone. The picture, still 1080p is flawless.
Other Thoughts: So - there is something going on with the HDMI output, but there is a reasonable solution. Others are not reporting this, so it could be instance-specific. I am running Windows 7 and not experiencing the black screens or other issues seen elsewhere. However, when I turned off the TV and turned it back on, the HDMI output would cause the video to switch modes from 1080p to something like 1024x680 (a 4x3 aspect ratio). Switching the TV inputs away from the HTPC and back fixed it. At the low resolution, there would be dropouts occasionally. Thus far, the DVI->HDMI setup does *not* exhibit this problem. Fingers crossed.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for your review. We sincerely apologize about this issue you are experiencing. We have duplicated this issue and are currently working on a fix for this with our R&D dept. If you can please contact us at OC_Support@asus.com and reference case number NE0016 it would be very helpful. Also, please include your system configuration including model numbers and specs. of your TV/LCD used when the problem occurred. Thank you & Best Regards, ASUS Support Team

Generally pleased
Pros: Features, nice media center choice
Cons: Video noise?
Other Thoughts: With the exception of one problem, this has been a good board. In a Silverstone media case, the northbridge/video does not seem to get overly hot.
I have one issue, and I'm not 100% sure where the problem lies. I see video noise (a flash of some lines) over the HDMI connection to the TV. Oddly, there is exactly a one-second periodicity to the noise. You can hold up a clock with a second hand and synchronize the two. I've moved cables around trying to defeat or at least find the source of the noise with no luck.
I have not attached a standard computer display to see if it's there, too. (Have tried other HDMI cables.) I hesitate to ding this board until I can be sure it's responsible.

Decent Board, Some Shortcomings
Pros: Good performance, ASUS BIOS is always a pleasure to use. The onboard sound and video are pretty good for being on-board. The addition of the display port is quite nice to find on a motherboard.
Cons: In Windows 7, the HDMI output on my board causes graphics flickers. At 1080p there's lines that flicker every 1/2 second, roaming up the screen. I have the latest BIOS. I've updated all chipset, graphics, and sound drivers to the latest from their respective manufacturers. Strange there is no flicker while loading windows until it actually gets into the Windows screen. If it were an ungrounded input adapter, I'd think I'd see it in the loading screens too, but I don't - which makes me think it's driver related. However, I can find no other complaints of this issue online for this board. Other cons: No firewire port. Board is pricey. XP won't install on this board out of the box (BSOD after loading drivers for install, but before selecting a HDD partition). Board is slightly shorter than the standard Micro ATX, which causes the board to bend when connecting power adapters since there's no ability to screw in that last column of screws to secure it to the case tray.
Other Thoughts: I had to run a DVI cable to an HDMI adapter to my 1080p LCD TV in order to eliminate the flickering graphics lines. I was pleasantly surprised to find this board outputs sound on the DVI cable. However, there's still a bit of an issue with the sound this way - the first 1/4 second of sounds appear to be dropped. Not an issue when watching a movie or TV since it's only the first 1/4 of the sound that you lose, so it's not a huge issue for me. But I notice it when windows boots, and with IM programs especially, with incoming message sounds. If the board were cheaper I'd give it a higher egg rating, but for the high pricetag, I don't feel like you're getting your money's worth here with all the issues therein.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, I'm sorry that you are having on-board audio/video issues with this board. Please contact us at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx so that we may get more details about your system configuration and help you to resolve the issues. Sorry for the inconvenience. NVidia chipset is junk
Pros: It has a real graphics card on-board
Cons: Good luck getting HDMI output to work. Under both Windows 7 and Ubuntu, I see a black screen, though signal is present (the TV shows the correct resolution). Under Windows 7, the screen flashes on then turns black when you wake it up from monitor powersave. VGA works fine but I bought it for the HDMI. At first VGA didn't work with Windows 7 either (same problem), but that was fixed by booting up in "low resolution mode" (press F8 during startup) and installing the NVidia driver. Booting from USB is downright stupid. Will not boot even if "removable device" is set at the top. The only way to do it is to force the USB drive to be emulated as a hard drive, then go to your boot settings and set it to *the* hard drive to boot from (there can only be one HDD in the boot order). I bet this makes installing XP impossible. In this day and age, *everything* should boot off USB in a snap. *Not* the case here.
Other Thoughts: NVidia and Asus joined forces to make one giant knucklehead move. Chipset drivers are nearly 300 MB. Asus then put this file on their 486DX off the dialup modem---it was downloading at 40 KB/sec max. Gee, thanks. Turns out the chipset driver includes the graphics driver (120 MB)---as if I hadn't downloaded that already. What a waste of Internet. As of today there's no way to update the BIOS from Windows 7---you can only do it the old-school boot disk way.

Almost a year without any serious issues.
Pros: I pre-purchased this board from Newegg and built a HTPC with it when I received it in I believe November 2008; Mostly intending to stream media from the internet and my server. I installed Windows 7 beta (64bit) when it was released out of curiosity. I am using a Core2 Duo. I have been so happy with how it ran on this system that I am still using it. Never once have I had even the slightest difficulty with any drivers or hardware apart from the Support software from Asus that runs Asus’ power saving features. Asus now provides software for Windows 7 to take full advantage of these features. This is a great motherboard for anyone looking to build an HTPC. Video streaming is flawless after an upgrade in Northbridge heat sink. The Manual for this board is quite helpful providing information for compatible RAM and going so far as to recommend processor speeds and RAM for playing Blu-Ray and 1080p Video. HDMI output worked from the get go without any issues, as did my USB keyboard and mouse
Cons: The passive North Bridge Cooler provided with this board is inadequate in my opinion. I installed it using arctic silver 5. The north bridge would get quite hot when running 3D applications or playing video for prolonged periods. The high temperatures resulted in obvious problems including stuttering and artifact upon sudden transitions. For a while I remedied this problem by increasing fan speeds. I wasn't happy with the results as this increased noise to a noticeable level. While it did help lower Northbridge temperature marginally the cooler was still burning hot to the touch. I replaced stock heat sink with a heat sink with a fan. The new heat sink does get warm but by no means hot, let alone hot enough to cause burns. The Video problems are now nonexistent and I have peace of mind.
Other Thoughts: By no means should the poor performance of the Northbridge heat sink asus included detur anyone from purchasing this board as in my case a inexpensive upgrade made a Motherboard that performed very well an even more reliable product. My system runs cool even in a slim case, allowing me to keep fans to a minimum and goes completely unnoticed when I’m trying to enjoy a movie. This review is based on my experience and do not pretend to be an expert just a fairly knowledgeable user with quite a bit of time with this product, and I would not hesitate to recommend this Motherboard to a friend.

Problems with Windows 7
Pros: Works ok with Windows Vista using Media Center. Bought this board to build a HTPC. Works Ok with some hitches.
Cons: Will not work with Windows 7. ASUS has posted beta install software. Does not fix problem.
Other Thoughts: Called ASUS about the problem and they say its a Microsoft problem. Not true. Windows 7 works perfectly fine on a intel MB that I have. Poor service from ASUS

Overall, Great Board
Pros: Great on board graphics, 1333 fsb capable, works with pentium dual cores, worked right out of the box with newest version of bios 0514 i think it was. Great overclocking board. Overclocked from 2.6 to 3.58 without breaking a sweat. Upped fsb to 1100 with 5:4 linked putting ram at 880 using e5300. Upped cpu voltage to 1.3 and bumped up the chipset voltage +50ma. Temps didnt budge on idle for cpu but mcp and gpu went up 5 degrees C. This was with a stock intel cooler and arctic silver. Amazing! Strapped a 60 mm quiet s1lenex fan to nb/gpu heat sink blowing down. 24 hour idle i get gpu at 52 C and NB at 57. CPU cores at 36. Temps don't budge much playing blu-ray using hardware acceleration & spdif Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. DD and blu-ray together rock my world! All the drivers from the cd that came with the board got everything working. No exclamations in device manager. Got my ethernet, network, usb, smsbus, and sound working. I DLed newest video driver from nv1dia site.
Cons: Installing windows was a hair more challenging than i expected. When trying to install a fresh copy of windows I kept getting stuck at "windows is starting up" after booting from cd. It would always freeze at this point. I took out my hard drive and deleted the partition using my other cmptr cause there was already an os installed on it. Then i read to disable usb in bios to prevent random freezes during os installation. However i have a usb keyboard so when asked to install windows press enter, i couldnt get past this point. I ended up using a ps/2 keyboard and that got my os up and running. Frustrating! Also when installing drivers from the cd it will ask u to reboot the cmptr. If you leave the cd in it will start to do some sort of a backup disk using your floppy drive. I dont have a floppy drive (who does these day?) I had to remove the driver cd when installing each driver after reboot or else i couldn't boot into windows. Annoying!
Other Thoughts: Sorry for such a long review. But i hesitated greatly b4 i bought this board because of all the previous reviews. If you know what your doing and have a ps/2 keyboard you will be good to go. I really love this board. I can use vga and dvi simultaneously. Although, i had to wait until i got sp2, before installing video drivers, otherwise i didnt get any nv1dia control panel. Which is key for setting up multiple displays and all the other adjustments that program has. Haven't tried gaming on it yet. Dont let all these poor reviews fool you. Once you get the os installed its rock solid. Was gonna deduct an egg for everything mentioned in the cons but i love this board too much. I hope this review helps!!!

Great MB but northbridge does get hot
Pros: - Well supported in Linux - Good feature set - Flawless HD video playback - 7.1 LPCM over HDMI
Cons: - First board was DOA. Asus needs to improve their testing/packaging. - Northbridge gets hot. Mine peaks out at 72C with stock hardware.
Other Thoughts: Northbridge gets hot but this can be fixed. Replacing the tacky thermal paste by Arctic Silver 5 and removing the Asus logo plate reduces peak temp to 64C. You need to warm the paste with a hairdryer and gently wipe with isopropyl alcohol until the paste comes off completely. Getting more air flow also helps. With some fan repositioning I am able to get better air flow on the northbridge and the peak temp now is an acceptable 56C. Thermalright HR-05 with an 80mm fan can be used to reduce temp further.

Excellent HTPC board
Pros: 1. Nvidia CUDA technology supported, paired with some vedioplayer like COREAVP, the cpu is almost idling when watch 1080P h264 coded vedio. Very impressive. 2. Super easy to setup, working well out of box. 3. All solid electrolitic caps.
Cons: May not for the overclock lovers.
Other Thoughts: Intel C2D E8400 OSZ 4G DDR2 (512Mb shared with vedio card) WD 640G HD HP 22X DVD burner

Problem Motherboard
Pros: I thought the overall features would be the pros.
Cons: System crashes at least twice a day. The NIC will not work after rebooting most of the time. I have to go and disable it and then reenable it half the time. ASUS support was no help. I rebuild the system 3 times. I still got the same problems.
Other Thoughts: This is my 4rth ASUS board. I have never had luck with ASUS. This is the last time. I replaced the mb wtih XFX MB-N780-ISH9 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI Intel Motherboard 3-Way SLI Support. No problems now.

Pros: -Good price for what you get -okay-decent graphics -four slots for memory/ram -decent upgradable motherboard -runs/works well
Cons: too bad just the one pci-e slot and no via sata (though not that necessary either-- except to flash my xbox 360)
Other Thoughts: wish I had a second graphics card to speed things up, also I'm running vista so games don't run as well as they could
The via sata issue is workable since it has to pci slots/ports for a sata card which I just ordered.
Definitely worth the money.

good exept one problem
Pros: well its been a good motherboard. No problems until i had to use the Ethernet port.
Cons: okay so far it ether its XP's fault or the motherboards Ethernet port needs drivers or it just doesn't work. if it needs drivers that's a problem because the updater needs internet and i searched the driver couldn't find it. the problem is it has only one network connections and the only thing in there is incoming connections.

Asus Quality
Pros: I purchased the board to use as a home server. It works well for that function.
Cons: Documentation on the NVidia RAID is non-existent. Do not buy this if your not up for a significant amount of research.

Good Stuff
Pros: First board had some minor problems so I RMA'd and the replacement works just terrific. My Geek son loves the board. Best board for the price. I'm running Windows 7 and I love the Media Center
Cons: Had to pay for shipping for the RMA and I had to wait a week for the replacement but otherwise it's a very good deal

Worst motherboard ever
Pros: IT overclocks pretty good even tho it fails on start up sometimes..
Cons: Where to start... Always having a problem when i want to start up my computer it sometimes freezez in BIOS.. sometime BIOS fails, When the pc is completely off, i press the Turn on button of the case and it starts with black screen with low fan noise..i hear case is working but in monitor nothing shows up as progress SO i have to keep pressing the turn off button of the case .. And redo it again.. When i look at the keyboard and see alll 3 lights blinks right after pressing turn on button of the case.. I hear Fan starts running on high speed. That means there is a chance that pc might start up.. I have tried everything to get rid of this problem even RMA(ed) 1 or 2 times DID NOT GET THE PROBLEM FIXED!!!
Other Thoughts: Memory slots are not in same conditions one runs ram slow other runs faster sometime.. it never runs.. Its really hard to figure this motherboard out!! I wish i never bought ASUS!!
Manufacturer Response:Dear Customer, Your issue might be caused by the memory. Can you double check to see if your memory is good. For further assistance, please contact us at 812-282-2787 and reference case# NE520309. Regards, ASUS SUPPORT TEAM

Pros: Great board for a x86_64 hackintosh. I have 4GB OCZ RAM but I'll moving up to 8GB shortly. Super easy to install SL onto.
Cons: Video is a bit laggy when running multiple flash apps (like streaming video) but that may be because I haven't optimized it well with drivers.
Other Thoughts: Plenty of info on the net about setting this board up for SL.

I want to Believe 2 ...
Pros: All I stated before.
Cons: Having to disable Legacy USB support in order to install any OS. Being required to install Windows to get Express Gate to work properly. I would like to give it 5 eggs, but 4 is the most generous I can muster with the installation frustrations.
Other Thoughts: Still weary of Asus, but very pleased with NewEgg's reviewers! A big thank you to "N/A" (another Slashdot Anonymous Coward?) who posted on 9/1/2009 8:34:28 AM ... whoever you are, you saved me a few more gray hairs.

I want to believe ...
Pros: This board has everything I'm looking for in a mainboard. Specifically HDMI output and NVidia onboard graphics. Coupled with the 4GB of RAM and Core 2 Duo I am expecting a nice system.
Cons: Every time I have tried to install an operating system after the initial screen, loading Windows XP, 2K3, Vista, 2K8 or Ubuntu 8.04, 9.10) it seems that the graphics is redirected away from on-board video and I get absolutely nothing on the screen. I have set the BIOS to use on-board as primary, that didn't work. Since Express Gate isn't installed by default I'm pretty much left with a dud of a system. I don't want to have to RMA / Exchange but am willing to get try a few more times to get the system going. At this point, it's the last Asus mainboard for me.
Other Thoughts: The specs on paper are great, and seemingly 80% of the people aren't having any issues. If the video ever works, I'll come back and up my review to 4 eggs.

Great Feature Set, Lots of Issues
Pros: Great feature set. PureVideo HD, HDMI, 6 SATA Ports, Gigabit (kind of). Ultra-low power consumption (44w at idle). Fanless chipset.
Cons: This is the 3rd Asus board I have bought and the 3rd one I've had problems with. I keep getting suckered in by ravings about Asus quality. I haven't seen it. This one has a bad SATA port.
Other Thoughts: If everything worked, this would be great MB, but it has a lot of hidden warts. It refuses to connect at 1 GigaBit (Nvidia issue). I use this as an HTPC, so for power heat reasons, have an aggressive spin down policy. My 1.5TB Seagate would not spin down. I put in a WD EACS 1TB and I think it's working now, but it's too early to tell.

Perfect for HTPC or Slimline workstation
Pros: Awesome mobo with almost all the bells and whistles you need for a HTPC or a nice slimline workstation. Overclocks very easily. Runs Windows 7 64bit RTM like a dream. After installing the board, Win7 installed in 15 minutes and I was ready to got to work (oh, maybe that's a con:)
Cons: No firewire...no port or header on the mobo. I don't use FW devices, so it's not a big deal to me, but it's very weird ASUS completely failed to support it. The northbridge runs really hot and the heatsink is more about looks that functionality. It has a fake copper rod looped around to look like a heat pipe. The I/O shield is a cheap flimsy piece of junk that interferes with the attachment of the DVI cable.
Other Thoughts: I'm using it for general home office work and web development work using Adobe CS3 using dual 22" Samsung monitors. I'm running mine with a Q6600 OC'd to 3 Ghz w/ 4 GB of Gskill 1066 DDR2 and a 300 GB Velocirapter. I'm using a Zalman 8700N low profile cooler and it keeps the quad running cool. To help keep the northbridge cool, I pulled the ASUS plate off the top of the heatsink (it's only stuck on with double sided sticky stuff) and installed a 40x40x10mm fan. Just cut triangular shaped pieces of double sided foam tape and stick them to the corners of the fan. Then stick it down on top of the edges of the heat sink fins and the foam tape will hold it in place. This drops the temps from 65 deg C, down to 52 deg C. Even under full load while playing games the temps only hit about 57 deg C.

Shady Customer Service!
Pros: Board ran OS-X perfectly. "WAS" a great HTPC.
Cons: Customer support damaged my board ("Bent Pins") so they didn't have to replace the board! My system was running for 2+ month without issue, it died one day (power drop possibly). Called Asus for RMA, sent the board back, they replied that there were pent pins on the CPU socket. This is total bull, the board was in perfect order when I shipped it and wrapped it in 4 layers of foam and two boxes. They do this so much that they even write on the CPU socket cover that you should keep this little piece of plastic! Of course I didn't keep it past 1 month of operation.
Other Thoughts: Buyer Beware. Customer Support will damage your board and blame it on you! Will NEVER buy another ASUS product.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We apologize for this inconvenience. However, our warranty policy does not cover boards that arrive with physical damage. Please let us know if we can assist you further by contacting us at 812-272-2787. Best regards, ASUS SUPPORT TEAM

not happy
Pros: none that i can use
Cons: purchased what i thought would be a nice board for a media center pc. what i got was a board that none of the display ports worked on. RMA, and i got another board that doesn't work. guess i will have to pay shipping again, third times a charm. maybe this time i won't recieve something thats broken.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We apologize for this inconvenience. It is rare to have received two defective boards. Please contact us at aps_support@asus.com and reference case# NE490507 so that we can get more details about your system configuration and assist you in resolving your issues. Decent board, jack of all trades, master of none.
Pros: Flexibility. Happy with 2 of 4 core CPUs and graphics speedy enough for 1080p, Sims 3 or Guild Wars. Restored my faith in desktops total upgrade of old system C2D 6300 CPU/ 4GB Ram/MB was only $270 re-using old case, PSU and HD's from Athlon 1600 :-D. Ubuntu 9.10 alpha works well with this. CPU, GPU temps and fan speeds recognized with lmsensors. Bristling with graphics sound and usb ports.
Cons: If you want TwinView with DVI as primary, you may be frustrated. No bios or framebuffer on DVI with VGA connected concurrently. Once Ubuntu is booted to graphical login screen DVI is functional. Also you must use restricted nVidia drivers for now. Lacking firewire. Hot GPU will need well ventilated case.
Other Thoughts: Makes for a very quiet build! Makes an old Lian Li tower feel secksi again. Box arrived quite mangled and torn but parts were ok.

has every feature - caveat when installing win 7
Pros: Has every feature imaginable. Stable. No issues so far.
Cons: When installing Windows 7, had to disable USB2.0
Other Thoughts: I put this board into a brand new system with no add-on cards at all. The only things plugged into it were an E5200, a 2 gig stick of ram, a dvd drive and a hard drive. When installing windows 7 (build 7600), it got stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. After much troubleshooting, I had to disable hi-speed USB to get it to work (mind you, the only thing plugged into usb was a keyboard). This is a problem with Win 7, not this board, but figured i'd give others a heads up

Great board with HDMI problems
Pros: Great board with lots of options. No problems installing. Good documentation.
Cons: Mine was plagued by the so called "HDMI dropouts" from the beginning. Short bursts of "No Signal" from HDMI. These problems got progressively worse (more frequent and longer). I've tried different HDMI cables - no difference. Tried different monitors (to eliminate any EDID problems) - no difference.
Other Thoughts: Going to RMA it. PITA ... ;-(

Pros: Works great. NVIDIA chipset works well for Source games
Cons: BIOS takes a long time to boot. I can not for the life of me get ACPI working in Linux. North bridge really does run hot.

Quality Built
Pros: This Mother board is a perfect Value. I used this board in a value build for a friend. they just use the computer for internet and little kids games. The best part about it is that when they are ready for something faster i can just buy a quad core processor (probably really cheap in a few of years) and maybe even a GTX 285 and some more ram.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Great board

Pros: Features, packed. Quality components
Cons: Every time I turn on the PC, the PC stops booting up. I am asked to hit F2 to reset the configuration. This resets the date and time every time, and anything that I configured will also be reset to factory default. Thinking maybe the battery was not holding the configuration, I changed the battery but the problem remains. I got the latest bios but still have the same problem.
Other Thoughts: I have been an Asus fan for a long time, and happy with their products. But by far this is the worst ASUS motherboard I have had.

Returned for refund
Pros: Features
Cons: Unstable, BIOS issues, sluggish response, onboard speaker doesn't work for troubleshooting, boot issues
Other Thoughts: I flashed the BIOS on this board to the 05/14 revision but still having problems booting from CDROM. The board appears to be unstable at times, sluggish problems exist, video is fine but you need a chipset fan to keep the chip cool. The biggest problem with this board is that the BIOS doesn't support all the features of the M/B - should be able to disable PCI-E to do clean install of XP but unable to, so you HAVE to use XP SP2, Windows 7, or Ubuntu. I think Asus did a terrible job on the BIOS and feel that this is the main reason why so many people are encountering issues. I am not troubling myself to troubleshoot or get a remanufactured board, it's going back to NewEgg for a refund and Asus is off my list - going to Gigabyte from now on.

IF you are building a HTPC then this is the board
Pros: Great board for a simple HTPC. Bought this to replace my EVGA 610i. Unpacked and installed with 4G Adata and it booted right up at 800 and the times were right with it set to auto. Installed chipset, audio, and graphics drivers and was able to get audio over HDMI in Vista without any problems. Opened up VLC player and played several x264's in 1080p and the 730i handled it very well. No noticeable strain on the on board graphic processor.x264's in 1080p and the 730i handled it very well. No noticable strain on the processor.
Cons: None. does everything exactly as advertised.
Other Thoughts: Running Q6600 with 4G of Adata, stock onboard 730i and 2 1T Samsung spinpoints in raid 0. Over 75+ blu-ray titles and audio over hdmi. I love this thing on my 58" panasonic. Also go get Boxee as your player. Great meadia center program by the creators of xbmc.

Great HTPC board bar none
Pros: The best HTPC board I've found for the price. I have this running Win 7 64bit w/4gb 1066 ram and BlueRay drive. Intel 2.8 E7400 Core2duo overclocks to 3.36 with stock cooler EASILY!!! And I mean simple. Profiled setting to go 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 percent overclock. I don't get over 50C CPU temps under OCCT's tests.
Cons: Ok so there is one bad thing about this board. The Northbridge heatsink might be the worst ever. It's an EASY fix thou for about 15 bucks. Get a Thermaltake CL-C0034 here on NewEgg for 19 bucks like I did. It plugs right into the 3 pin PWR plug on the board. You won't get over 45C under full load EVER! Problem fixed
Other Thoughts: Not the perfect board but an easy fix makes it the perfect board.

Terrible, piece of junk
Pros: Bells and whistles, integrated 9300 video, HD audio, firewire, supports up to 16 gig of ram, easy to case install
Cons: Chipset runs too hot, board is unstable, cleared CMOS several times without positive results, wouldn't post at times other times OK, refused to install XP, onboard speaker not operative for troubleshooting, something is seriously wrong with this motherboard; Asus software doesn't control motherboard fans and I could go on and on - DO NOT BUY ASUS!
Other Thoughts: This is my second ASUS board and now I've owned two that are terrible - will never, ever buy Asus again.

most furstrating experienc ever
Pros: good features memory can be upgraded to over 8 G pretty easy to setup good technical support on phone
Cons: Bought new on new-egg. After a couple of weeks, realized a problem when the system freezes (not a crash or a hang, but a freeze). Hardware interrupt wont work either. Tech support acknowledged all the debugging i had done, and placed an RMA for me Sent the board back. The board was returned after a "BIOS FLASH" (this is ridiculous, since tech support clearly mentioned there is no need for a BIOS update) The returned board started having display problems - it would power on but no display whatsover. Tech support again put in an RMA At this point i demanded a replacement - and this is the worst part, ASUS policy is to replace with only REFURBISHED board. They send me a refurbished board, and this would hit 80 deg C on CPU in about 3 mins!! So here i am, having bought a band new board over 100 bucks, and been provided a REFURBISHED replacement which doesnt work either. Extremely disappointed with this company. Will NEVER EVER get an ASUS product.

Sound problems
Pros: Nice performance, easy to configure panel, could be a great gaming/home theatre board, if you can get it to work like it's supposed to.
Cons: Drivers require babysitting to install (unless you change your boot order prior to installing drivers). DVD sound failed, regardless of dvd drive (tried Samsung and LG, SATA and IDE). Also tried multiple dvd players Power DVD, Nero, Interactual, Windows Media (yes i had codecs for the drives). But worst of all, support was LAZY and put no effort via e-mail or phone.
Other Thoughts: I am going back to buying Intel boards. ASUS support put no effort to resolve the problem at all. They didnt even ask me to update the bios or drivers.

Pros: Very stable board, i have it in a PC that's almost never turned-off, and i haven't had any problems at all. Tried both Linux and some games under windoze, same great performance. Integrated graphics chip is pretty good, it easily handles compositing window managers, such as Compiz under SUSE. Hybrid sli seems to work well (i've got another PCIe graphics card).
Cons: Sound stopped working for some reason after a few weeks. I don't think it was very good to begin with. Fortunately i had an old pci SoundBlaster lying around.

Great product
Pros: Built in HDMI output! I use this board in a HTPC and it works great with a 52" LCD. Add in a BlueRay drive and this becomes a very cost effective media system.
Cons: Scaling the HDMI picture and initial set up took a little bit of time in Windows XP, but everything works great after that. Also I found in XP the HDMI drivers have a small bug when waking from hibernate mode. You have to wake the computer first (with the TV off) and then turn the TV on. Otherwise HDMI output never shows up.
Other Thoughts: With all of the content available online there is really no need to subscribe to cable. You can watch exactly what you want when you want it online.

Runs Hot
Pros: * It boots
Cons: * Asus Boot screens pops up twice for some reason after Bios update * No drive detected shows up every time on boot * Northbridge chip runs HOT. 60c just on IDLE... * 5 sata port, but 2 black ports only work under raid
Other Thoughts: No way you can build a silent PC using this board.

I love this little mobo
Pros: Incredible connectivity, fantastic native performance for home theater uses, when used with an nVidia graphics card you get to use the internal video simultaneously so driving 4 monitors is trivial. With an MSI N275GTX I am driving a 24" monitor and a 19" monitor, while using the HDMI to drive a flat panel on the wall. Quite happy with the results and not needing a 2nd video card added in to achieve my ends.
BIOS flexibility for overclocking is adequate for my purposes. I had a problem with random lockups using the G.Skill 8 GB kit I bought from New Egg, but pushing the default RAM voltage of 1.8V up to 1.9V seems to have cured that.
Cons: North bridge cooler is horrid. I had to add in an 80mm fan resting on the back of my video card to blow air directly at it to keep the north bridge around 40dC, without it I was going over 50dC. Trapped as it is between a video card and my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro, there is just no way to get air movement to it. With no video card and a down and out blowing CPU cooler (like the standard Intel cooler), this might not be a problem. I even removed the heat sink tape that Asus installs it with and used Arctic Silver 5 with no meaningful change in thermal behavior- air movement is king. If Asus would develop a replacement heat sink that would perform better in my situation, I would gladly drop $20 more to purchase it. It is a funky enough design that I don't think I would ever find something off the shelf.
Other Thoughts: To the engineer who thought it would be a good idea to place the additional motherboard power connector to the north west of the CPU- I hate you forever (joking). For anyone else installing this motherboard, don't even THINK about installing the CPU heat sink until AFTER you have connected the 4 pin power or I pray you have very tiny hands (or do it before installing the mobo).

Great Home Theater Motherboard
Pros: Great price, great features, does everything I want it to do, and everything its supposed to do, be a Home Theater PC motherboard.
Cons: As others have states the northbridge does run hot, but hey its a nVIDIA northbridge with a GeForce 9300 built it, did you honestly expect it to run cool?
Other Thoughts: Running it on XP Pro / Vista Ultimate 64 Bit, as a Home Theater motherboard, Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200, with 2GB of memory, does everything I want it to do.
Playing Blueray CPU load is about 5%, Using HDMI out for video and Optical for Audio 5.1 setup.
As others have said, the Realtek audio control panel is not very straight forward, but after messing with it for a bit it will do what you want it to do.

Awesome little board
Pros: For such a little board it sure has a lot going for it. First off it's a solid ASUS board. No problems putting this together with a new Q8200 and 4Gb of Corsair memory then adding my old legacy 7800GT and Audigy card. And of course Windows XP. installation was smooth and easy. I've always enjoyed Nvidia's chipsets. They seem to go in easy. So far no problems, no BSOD. all applications went in.
Cons: NO on-board 1394A(Firewire) When I saw the pics I thought that green header on the bottom was a Firewire header...I was wrong, it was a front audio header. For such a feature rich board there were only 6 mounting holes...that's fine but when you insert anything on the right side of the board when you've already mounted the board to the case, the board flexes...this applies to RAM, the main ATX plug and the SATA cables.
Other Thoughts: only 1 SATA cable and 1 IDE cable in the box.
It has been a while since I built a computer for myself, and when I build a computer for myself I like them to run Solid and trouble free. I game. I do digital editing on stills and video.
Don't overlook this board just because its a micro...it's got a lot of potential for a little fella

Driver issues
Pros: All the features appear to work fine in Win7
Cons: After installing Win7, there were a couple exclamation marks in Device Manager, so I attempted to use the Vista drivers from the Asus installation disk, as Vista and Win7 use the same driver model. The setup program reported that Win7 was the wrong operating system, and would simply not install. The Asus website offered no solution, however Windows update did find drivers and Device Manager was then happy. However, there was a big problem of random stuttering on TV playback (Media Center) where a word or two would cut-out, perhaps 1-3 times per minute. The solution was to go to nvidia.com and choose to have the site search my computer for updated drivers. Stuttering gone!
Other Thoughts: 1. I can record 4 TV shows at once with two AverMediaHD duet cards, one in the PCI-e X1 slot, the other in the PCI-e X16 (video card) slot. 2. Occasionally a frame is missed on TV playback (even if I recorded only one show at a time). A slight nuisance but nothing compared to the audio problem that was fixed by the driver update.

ASUS customer service - disappointing
Pros: Good features Easy to install Easy to setup and update bios Prompt delivery by newegg
Cons: Had a strange issue, where the system would freeze up (not a hang/crash, but a freeze). Tried to setup a keyboard interrupt to collect a dump, but since the KB also froze, this was not useful. Finally, zeroed it down to using two memory sticks. When using two memory sticks, when you put memory pressure on the system - it freezes . i know the memory sticks are fine, since they have been through 10 hrs of mem-test, and each memory stick, when fitted individually on the motherboard works fine (no freezes etc). The tech support was very understanding - after listening to all i had done to debug the problem (and why i thought it was hardware and not software), he right away gave me an RMA #. However, what i did not like about ASUS is that they are charging me for shippping it one way!! It is their fault, they should be providing the shipping charges (both ways).

Everything I expected...
Pros: Supports all I need. Four memory slots are perfect. Surround sound is great. The onboard video supports dual monitors (one DVI one VGA). Plenty of front USB ports, plenty of expansion ports.
Cons: Nothing.
Other Thoughts: Plenty of Goodies wrapped into one nice package.

NIC Problems
Pros: HDMI, RAM capacity.
Cons: The nice card randomly hangs when it reboots. I have to go in and disable it and re-enable it to get it to work. Updated drivers. Support sucks. This is my 3rd ASUS board. ASUS has never been problem free for me. Intel boards have. I am running Vista Ultimate 64Bit
Other Thoughts: Will replace with Intel

great board
Pros: amazing graphics. Works great with my dual channel patriot ram. works great with c2d E8400. Northbridge runs 30c idle on just the heatsink with no overclock
Cons: its not a 9800 gtx or a geforce 295 :(
Other Thoughts: As with any other board or chip you are going to want more cooling to overclock. I have two large 120mm Silent Coolermaster fans in my case. One to draw air in and one to spit it out.

Memory Settings
Pros: Awsome board once you get a good cpu cooler like Zalman and apply Arctic 5 to the Northbridge and add a fan to the northbridge. Once that is done the temps drop drastically and never go over 40c.
Cons: Check out Fishman's post its the best here. I wrestled with this board being stable with my memory until I found his post. This board has the ability to always be adjusting the ram to save energy when not in use which causes blue screens at random. By making the settings in the bios according to Fishman the board became rock stable. I did not see this setting since its very new and kind of hidden.
Other Thoughts: This board has so many tweakable settings its almost silly. It also over-clocks very easy with a zalman 8700 cooler. A fan on the northbridge is key to keeping the temps down.

Awesome board
Pros: There are SO many pro's to this board that I don't even utilize them all. The price for the feature set is unbeatable. HDCP HDMI, HDMI audio without any problems, Onboard nVIDIA 9300 graphics, DX10... To name a few. I wasn't even farmilliar with Display Port until I got this MOBO and realized it had it. It's basically a non-proprietary HDMI competitor. I'm happy I have the option should I ever need it. I love the MyLogo 2 applicaiton that installs with the ASUS Update software. My HTPC has a nice boot screen now.
Cons: Nothing except no Firewire if you need it. (I don't)
The NorthBridge DOES idle around 55° C but I've read on ASUS' site FAQ that this is NORMAL and is capable of up to 100° C My case is enclosed in an entertainment center, and I started to see temps close to 70°C so I installed a 120MM case fan in the entertainment center to exhaust the heat (it turns on and off with the PC). And now it rund under 60°C all the time.
Other Thoughts: I didn't purchase this board from NewEgg. I had credit card points and had to use them at certain places. NewEgg wasn't an option otherwise I would have bought it here. But I love NewEgg so I'm reviewing it here ;). I think it cost about the same as it would have here, but in essence I got it for free :)
The board was installed in an Antec Micro Fusion 350 case with an Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 processor, Stock HSF, G.Skill 4GB DDR2 800 (Model: F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ) in dual channel (Memory purchased here at NewEgg for a great price... Also reviewed and yes.. it is on this board's QVL). All this paired with Windows 7 RC 64 bit and an ATI TV wonder 650 PCI. Installed all Vista 64 bit drivers where Win7 driver were unavailable by running driver setup in Vista compatibility mode. This makes for the ultimate HTPC! Some Notes: Although I didn't install it, ExpressGate only works on SATA drives

Sweet little board
Pros: Great set of features and lots of output options. The thing was easy to setup and works like a charm. It is in my HTPC which is what I think this board was designed for the graphics are great on my 46" tv and has no problems with blu-ray. GREAT BOARD.
Cons: Really don't have any yet

Great Mobo for the Price
Pros: Great all around Mobo for the price that fully combines sound and video all on the same board with all the USB and SATA/ESATA ports you would want. I set this up with a * Intel Q8400 Quad Core chip. * 4GB Kensington KVR800D2N5/2G * 2ea 500GB Western digital HDisks *Asus VH222H LCD
Cons: Had difficulty getting the RAM to work properly without it throwing several hardware issues. I reseated the RAM and tried several different configurations and was about to give up and RMA the RAM when I found that by simply setting the "System Clock Mode" in the "Jumper Free" setting in the BIOS from "Auto" to "Unlinked" this fixed the issue becasue it stopped the Mobo from automatically making adjustments to the RAM on the fly as it was working.
So for those of you with possible hardware related RAM issues try "Unlinked" and/or set your RAM to manual settings and clock cycles.
For the KVR800D2N5/2G Settings are TCL 5 TRCD 5 TRP 5 TRAS 18 TRC 23 CR 2T
Other Thoughts: I wish the out of the box auto settings for the BIOS would not have been as finicky with the RAM that was clearly on the QV Listing from ASUS

Stereo only - update
Pros: Mostly seems to work except for 6 channel audio
Cons: Still having driver issues
Other Thoughts: Managed to get one application to work with 5.1 over optical S/PDIF. ASUS (Realtek) drivers still don't seem to be able to drive 6 channel audio. Spoke repeatedly to several Asus gurus, none of the solutions worked, and they aren't equipped to diagnose the problem. Maybe it's a compatibility issue?

Warning if you use this with logitech illuminated keyboard
Pros: Overall it's a decent board for the price. I do like that the SATA ports are not covered up by a dual slot vid card.
Cons: If you use this with a Logitech Illuminated keyboard the system will hang when booted at initializing the USB bus for about 5 minutes or so. There are reports of this on Asus forums for a few of their boards. Be aware it will eventually boot but you will never be able to get into the bios using that keyboard which is rather annoying. Also I have the same sound issue as the other gentleman here where it refuses to output mulit-channel through the digital output. My speakers do pro-logic so it's not the biggest deal for me but certainly dissapointing.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We would like to know more about your system configuration and assist you in resolving your issues with the logitech keyboard. Please contact us at aps_support@asus.com and reference case# NE370646. Best Regards, ASUS SUPPORT TEAM

Pros: Fairly inexpensive. Good video for HTPC use. Supports the CPUs from the cheap Pentium dual cores up to the Core2 Quads.
Cons: The stock BIOS is not all that hot.
Other Thoughts: Great board for small HTPC builds. The 9300 GPU supports VDPAU to offload video decoding making it a breeze to play high-quality video w/o taxing the main CPU. HDMI+Optical+VGA+DisplayPort

Stereo Only
Pros: Boots
Cons: Doesn't output audio in center, sub, or rear channels, either through S/PDIF or sub-mini jacks.
Other Thoughts: Asus audio manager allows selection of 6-channel audio, and allows you to test it. Results is no audio using headphones, or two different amplifiers using the S/PDIF optical connection. Really honks me off, because I replaced another motherboard I had because I needed an optical S/PDIF output to drive surround system. I know there is nothing else causing the problem, because I re-installed the OS from bare metal, and installed NOTHING other than the board drivers. Newegg website a little flakey today, too...
Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Customer, We are sorry for this inconvenience. Please contact our Technical Support Department at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/techserv.aspx and reference case number "NE362632" so that we may get more details about your system configuration and assist you in resolving these issues you are experiencing. Best mATX board I've found
Pros: Integrated video worth it's salt. Supports 16GB (for someday when 4GB dimms aren't so $$$$). Respectable onboard RAID performance. Plenty of nice ports. Stable, well-designed board.
Cons: Doesn't support faster RAM. With a 1333/1066MHz FSB I would have hoped for PC2 8500.
It's true about the northbridge - it runs pretty darn hot - I'm looking for a good chipset HSF b/c the provided copper fan/pipe doesn't seem to do much. Speedfan says my IGP is in the 60's during idle but that might also have something to do with my microatx case setup.
Other Thoughts: Paired this board with a Core 2 Quad Q9650, 8GB of Kingston DDR2 800 (4x2GB) and two 640GB WD Black drives in RAID 0 in a Lian Li PC-350B case with an LG 24" 1080p display and Vista x64. And I freakin love it.

Best mATX I've ever owned
Pros: Great stability. Ports galore. Tons of BIOS options for overclocking & voltage. Best integrated graphics option available right now. Onboard audio sounds great, with no interference & tons of customizable settings using the provided software. Works great with Win 7 Beta - easier install than Vista! Supports all the good stuff like RAID, 45nm CPUs, 7.1 channel surround audio, and up to 16GB RAM.
Cons: Not sure if this is a true con, but the onboard GPU runs a bit toastier than I'm used to (avg. 55*C idle) despite re-mounting the GPU heatsink with Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and good airflow. No stability or performance issues though; just something to be aware of.
Other Thoughts: First off, I have to mention I got this bad boy as an open box deal on here. I was expecting to get just the mobo, but in true newegg form, I got the whole package with all the accessories and even the ASUS decal. Sweet! A month later, I'm still giddy at how stable, full-featured, and fast this mobo is. Running an E5200 Pentium Dual Core OC'd to 3.33GHz, 2x 500GB 7200.11s in RAID0, dual boot Win 7 x64 Beta & Vista Ult. x64, 6 GB XMS2 800 MHz OC'd to 873MHz... 4.7 WEI graphics rating in both Vista & Win7... I'm getting CPU temps lower than my P5Q SE/R P45 ATX board did, and at lower voltage. The BIOS has as many settings as you'd find in a much more expensive setup - you can even OC the onboard GPU. I am using the full 512MB graphics buffer, and can run Flight Sim 2004 and Test Drive Unlimited at med-high settings. I could go on and on, but if you want the best mATX board out there right now, get this and rock on. Yup, this here PC geek just said that bout a mATX board!

Great Hardware
Pros: It is part of the fastest system I have built, Good BIOS to do all the settings adjustments for over clocking, I bought it for the built in video chip with feature to share the video processing power with my video chip. First time to have 4GB of RAM with Duel core CPU and all runs vary quick and smooth together when I am running vista. Has many other features I like a lot. I give this product a A++
Cons: I do not have any.
Other Thoughts: I over looked what video slot it has in it, found is not the PCI Express x16 2.0, just PCI Express x16 1.1, I still used a PCI e x16 2.0 card, it works vary well

Good
Pros: Works great - love the HDMI port (have a TV hooked up to it constantly).
Cons: After a mishap with setup I got a replacement and it worked great - only complaint is the slowness of getting a replacement from newegg.

Good on paper...........
Pros: None that I can think of at the moment.
Cons: 1 - Purchased memory that was clearly listed on the QVL. On boot-up the machine failed to power on. Called ASUS tech support, they said it must be a misprint in the QVL.
2 - After replacing the originally purchased memory, with another brand of memory, the board would power on for 10 minutes, and then immediately shut off. Called ASUS tech support and they said my power supply was the problem. My power supply was practically brand new and had been working fine for 2 months in another system.
Other Thoughts: I RMA'ed the board, got my money back, and bought a nearly identical product, the GIGABYTE GA-E7AUM-DS2H. So far it works flawlessly.

Pros: Solid onboard graphics + hdmi make for great HTPC.
Cons: my only issue was the drivers with windows 7 did not have 5.1 audio through hdmi and the video was a little flakey as well. Upgraded all the nvidia drivers and everything seems to be working pretty well now.

Pros: Great for a HTPC Every component worked as expected. Excellent layout. Power efficient. Lots of connections available: HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, and VGA (only two work at once). The integrated graphics is more than twice as fast as Intel's fastest solution. Could handle some games at lower settings.
Cons: The chipset cooler gets too hot. No FireWire ports Could have use the faster GeForce 9400M
Other Thoughts: The HDMI output worked without a hitch with a Toshiba 42” LCD monitor at 1920x1200 resolution.

Pros: Excellent on-board graphics, mATX size, every imaginable output, reasonable price. Using with very low end Core2Duo and can stream HD, record, transcode, and transfer files on the LAN without noticing slowdown. I'm thrilled with this board overall.
Cons: GPU runs very hot, when using IDE system drive, BIOS doesn't remember drive priority when components are changed, no firewire header (not really a problem since I don't use it, but my case has a connector), *very* minor issue but the PCI slots are in a position that doesn't work with slimline HTPC cases that require riser cards like Silverstone LC19 or LC04.
Other Thoughts: The integrated chipset is the reason I bought this board and it works like a dream, but the heatsink is not up to the job. The little heatpipe-thing is not a real heatpipe and doesn't appear to do anything functionally. I removed the stock heatsink and found it attached with a very uneven glob of thermal compound, replaced with mid-range grease (not that expensive stuff), resecured, and temps dropped significantly. If you will be taxing the GPU, you will want to reapply thermal grease and maybe an aftermarket cooler.

Pros: This motherboard provides all of the digital video output interfaces that I needed for my first HTPC system. It supports a large amount of memory and solid Intel processors. I installed Mythbuntu on this system and had no issues getting it to boot. Video looks AWESOME on my 46" Bravia.
Cons: Getting the audio to work through HDMI on Linux was a bit of a struggle. I had to upgrade ALSA to the latest version outside of the official repositories. I tried to install the Linux drivers from the included CD, but was unable to compile them. Also for best video performance I had to install the proprietary drivers from Nvidia. No on-board firewire.
I used the IN WIN IW-BT611T.300SL case and the placement of the power pin on the motherboard is too close to the back of the DVD drive. The DVD drive pushes against the cables coming out of power and pushes them into the memory. So there is a slight bit of constant pressure on the memory and the power pin. I hope this doesn't cause a problem down the road.
Other Thoughts: Despite the trouble I had getting the audio to work, I'm very satisfied with the features of this board. I actually enjoy working through issues like this with Linux. It provides a good challenge for me. It's good to know that it does work and you can get it working if that is something you want to do. Compiz-fusion runs extremely smoothly.
I would buy this board again.

Good Mobo, short lived.
Pros: Worked fine for a month or so... no problems. I was using the board with an Intel E8500 cpu.
Cons: After a month or so, the board stopped working. Could not even boot to the bios. Called ASUS support. Resulted in an RMA. Removed the motherboard from the chassis and shipped it to ASUS support. Packed with care. A week later ASUS support contacted me saying that the board had "Trace Damage" and was not repairable. They sent (email) a photo, but it was out of focus so I really could not see what they meant by trace damage. I asked if the board had been damaged in shipment, the answer was no. Bottom line, they wanted $98 to replace the board. This was no deal, especially considering that I felt I was not at fault! I declined and requested the board be returned. I really wanted to see the so called "trace damage" and one never has enough paper weights...
Other Thoughts: I have never had to send a motherboard in for repair. If this happens to me again, I will probably take a photo of the board before shipping.Better yet, I hope this does not happen to me again:)

Nice board
Pros: Solid board, looks nice. All the different forms of digital video out.
Cons: IGP heatsink gets hot if cooled passively. Put 2x 40mm SUNONs on top set to 5v and they keep it relatively cool. No Firewire header on the board.
Other Thoughts: Heat pipe on IGP is useless.

Good HTPC board
Pros: Great, worked as it should, audio runs through HDMI. FYI I didnt see it anywhere but it pulls 512 for the onboard video, just good to know really.
Cons: Only bad thing I can say is the asus q-connect wasn't for my board, not a big deal though.
Other Thoughts: Q6600, 8gb G Skill DDR2 800 Vista Ultimate 64 bit scores are as follows: Processor 5.9, Memory 5.1, Graphics for Aero 4.7, Graphics for Gaming 5.1, HDD 5.9

Very Pleased
Pros: Onboard video is Excellent! The onboard GPU will be sufficient for almost anyone's day to day work. You can even run CUDA apps (I did and they work), albeit not quickly. Four different video connectors on board is just awesome. Been running XP x64 on it for about two weeks with very few problems.
Cons: Although this board supports hybrid SLI, the chipset doesn't support power savings by using hybrid SLI. Kind of a bummer but it's not Asus' fault and it might support it eventually with a software update.
Other Thoughts: I'd buy another one if I was going to build another computer!

Great motherboard
Pros: Works great and the picture on my 52 samsung looks great.
Cons: Having a hard time getting the sound from motherboard. The hdmi is passing the sound to the tv but can't get the sound on my receiver.
Other Thoughts: I went straight to the new bios before I started so I did not have any problems since I started using it. Runs 1080p video like a champ.

Pros: Many Many video out options. Great for HTPC or other lower end video functions
Cons: Not very easy to shut off certain video functions.

Great server mobo
Pros: Bought initially to replace the high whining sound of fans from a video card but the onboard graphics still does not cut it. You still need to have a video card to play some games...maybe the 9400 series will be better replacement for video cards.. I Got Server 2008 working great with this mobo and its running Apache, Hmail and other apps without any flaws
Cons: Wish the graphics was more powerful to eliminate video cards.
Other Thoughts: Good layout and drivers. Another fine Asus product

stay away stay far away p5n7a-vm
Pros: at this point I have found NO pros that any other MB with similar specs should have.
Cons: Even with memory specified this board has page faults with 4 sticks installed, rotating 3 sticks no problem 4 sticks crash. No pc speaker beep left info on web with no response after 24 hours second response also un answered then logged official complaint, they said that a desktop speaker would not be heard and closed the complaint. Icalled the tech # aftre 22 minutes on hold they took my name and number and said they would call back in 1 hour stayed at my desk for 2 hours no reply no voice mail after 3 days,,,, stay away,,, stay far away
Other Thoughts: This is my 3rd asus mb The other 2 worked fine (same model) I have installed XPpro32, vista enterprise32 & XPpro64- the board will not work with 4 2GB sticks on xp64 but had memory because I was planing n building 2 video servers,,,, going to try gigabit boards now ,,,, NO CUSTOMER support from ASuS andI used tell my firends to buy thier boards

bleh?
Pros: Onboard GPU with lots of video ports. It boots.
Cons: Chipset runs warm-hot, even with arctic silver 5 and two 120mm fans. Mine idles around 46C but will easily jump to 60C+ under load. Chipset heatsink is not large enough and requires active cooling solution. Video driver support horrible in linux. DVD playback sub-par in Windows. Problems playing legacy games and emulators. Q-fan utility is useless. Monitoring software is overcomplicated and buggy (I'll take PCWizard and CPU-Z instead). EPU 4 Engine just flips the installed e8400 CPU from 2.0 to 3.0GHz randomly. BIOS is confusing and disorganized and had to be updated several times. BIOS still does not report accurate CPU temperatures or RAM timings for my Geil Black Dragon sticks. ExpressGate thingy is annoying and gets in the way during boot time. Hibernated permanently in Vista, would not wake even after reboots, had to reset CMOS jumper. Multiple issues with RAID forced me to give up and install a single drive.
Other Thoughts: I replaced this MOBO with a Jetway JHA07-ULTRA-LF paired with an AMD Phenom II 920 for about the same price I paid for this dysfunctional setup and I couldn't be happier.

Good board
Pros: Solid board, stable and fast.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Built a Windows Server 2008 system with this board, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, and 4 Kingston HyperX 2GB memory chips (N82E16820104042). Rock solid box. Running 24x7 for over a month. Box runs Oracle, SQL Server and 3 virtual machines, and stays cool and fast. Highly recommended. Have built many systems with Asus MBs, and all are solid.

XP Blu-ray player
Pros: Plays Blu-ray (very nicely) using XP. (XP64 in my case) NVIDIA provide HDCP compliant drivers for XP and XP64.
Cons: Not really a con and hard to miss but short board overhangs (6 only) standoffs. Support bottom of board when installing memory or connectors and you will have no problem.
Other Thoughts: My system: ASUS P5N7A-VM Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 8GB of CORSAIR TWIN2X4096-6400C5 XP Professional SP2C 64-bit ASUS Blu-Ray DVD BC-06B1ST ASUS VH242H HDMI Full 1080P
XP64 reports 7.75 Gb of RAM. Must be using 250Mb for video?

Pros: I love this motherboard! This motherboard was very awesome to put together. HDMI worked on the spot even before installing the CD, which I was worried that I would have to do at first! You can have the sound go through the HDMI! ASUS wins again in my book!
Cons: Actually nothing I could think of!
Other Thoughts: Even though this is my first and only Intel board I put together, it was probably the most fun.

Nice board.
Pros: Economically friendly. Good board layout. Fast for general computer needs. Even editing high def video files are a breeze.
Cons: Not a con for me, but be aware that the software and driver disk is a DVD.
Other Thoughts: Had to manually adjust speed of memory. Works well with 2Gb of Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 and a E8400 processor.

Beware of RAM Compatibility!
Pros: Being able to flash the BIOS from a USB stick is AWESOME; I finally have a system that doesn't need a floppy drive. BIOS has a lot of good options and the overclocking capability for a primarily "digital media/HTPC" board is pretty darn good.
mATX size makes cable routing a breeze (just be wary of power supplies with shorter cables, like CoolMax, which I have right now).
This board DOES have a single pci-express 2.0 x16 slot, but from reading the specs you might think that it's not a 2.0 slot; it is!
Solid caps; hybrid SLI w/CUDA, HDMI/DVI/RGB/DisplayPort, fast LAN, e-SATA, 8-channel high definition audio, and HDCP support make this a great media center motherboard. Also, the 4Engine energy savings features are great, too.
Cons: Make sure you check the list for compatible RAM; apparently Asus mobos don't like OCZ memory, and I've been bitten by it. I have 8GB of OCZ Reaper pc2-6400 memory and can't change the timings manually, or the system refuses to boot; I have to leave the timings set at manual (I *can* change the voltage). I am new to Asus mobos and didn't do any research, and I didn't look closely at the recommended memory list; my memory is not on the list.
Don't waste your time with the installable AsusUpdate software, download BIOS updates and do it yourself.
The onboard graphic chipset, nvidia GeForce 9300, though fairly new, are still a little less powerful than other boards that use the GeForce 9400.
Because I am not currently using the onboard graphics, I cannot say whether the board suffers the same heat problem with the north bridge that other people have mentioned. If so, then an aftermarket cooler for the NB may be necessary.
Q-Fan does not seem to work well with my PWM CPU fan.
Other Thoughts: I don't understand why OCZ memory and Asus mobos don't play well, though I may certainly research it some, for my own gratification, but I find it frustrating that such a recent board, with fully updated BIOS, can be so picky about the supported memory, when the older board (an MSI p6n platinum) it replaced had no such issue.
Most of my mobo knowledge is wrapped up in MSI/Gigabyte/Intel boards, and this was my first try at Asus. I admit that I'm disappointed about the memory issue, and I had to take one egg off for it.
This mobo had a problem with cpuz prior to version 1.50 where cpuz would consume 50% CPU and prevent rebooting. I helped beta test the fix and I can confirm that 1.50 works with this board now.
My sys: p5n7a-vm, Vista HP 64-bit, 8gb OCZ Reaper pc2-6400, evga 8800 GS Superclock, Antec 300 case.
I have not used the onboard video, yet. I had not intended to use this board in my gaming rig, but it ended up performing better than the old one but so far I'm happy.

Options
Pros: I received it before I got my HDs so I used the Ubuntu 8.10 Live CD and booted with no disk. Video (VGA) and network (100MBps) worked well. Also, I installed LinuxMCE 7.10, and got the digital audio output working with HDMI output (only tested 720p). I had to recompile the nVidia graphics drivers for it work with Kubuntu 7.10 and the nVidia utility worked well. After the nVidia upgrade I graduated from VGA to HDMI. I got two 250 GB SATA 3Gbs drives and they worked fine. I also tried an older 20GB IDE drive and it worked.
I subtracted one egg because the on-board RAID is software RAID. I just wished that had been clear as this does not work with LinuxMCE 7.10. I think that the BIOS got a little funny when I played with RAID settings in that I had to reboot twice for changes to take effect. BTW, I did upgrade from 0402 to 0505 (or whatever the latest number was).
Cons: While I was able to easily recompile drivers for the video, this was not so for the gigabit LAN. The nforce drivers seemed out of date and I could not get it to work.
Other Thoughts: I put a Dual Core 2.5 GHz processor and I find everything to work fine.

Pros: Board has an impressive array of features. Well layed out
Cons: My motherboard seemed to be working fine, however, after a few hours of use it stopped booting. Not even the Windows (XP or Vista) install DVD can boot the windows repair enviroment. ASUS tech rep says possile a bad south bridge, so I had to RMA the thing and send it back to Newegg for replacement.
An anoying quirk is that when you plug in a new hard drive (internal or external) the boot order rearranges itself in the BIOS, so your system will no longer boot until you reset the 1st boot device to your system drive.

Everything you need, nothing you don't
Pros: This board is easy to install, has a great layout with loads of ports, and runs great.
Cons: It's somewhat lacking in the PCI slots, but it is a micro-ATX.
Other Thoughts: I already had a good micto-ATX case, so it made economic sense to buy this board instead of having to buy a whole new case. If that hadn't been the case (ha), I probably would've gone for a slightly more expensive, but full-size ATX mobo. But as is, this is a fine mobo that will serve you well... it is ASUS after all.

Pros: Quick connect for speaker, switches, power lights, etc... Geforce 9300
Cons: Was a little quirky at first. Vista/7 installations very very slow, but after some tweeking it operated at a speed i expected. Don't like the location of the power connector. I had to put my finger below it because i was afraid i would going to break the board in that area.

Its very good
Pros: Its a very good motherboard, i noticed a lot of people saying it doesn't run or that it overheats to quickly, but it hasn't overheated one time, it does run a little hot (around 50c) but it hasn't once shut off on me due to overheating, and the heat sink that came with it was way better than the one that i had on my previous motherboard (nforce 650i). My old motherboards heat sink clips were made of plastic (kinda pointless) because they snapped off after getting a little hot, which is the main reason i bought this board because it doesn't use the plastic clips, overall this motherboard is really great.
PC specs: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2GB ram OCZ Gold ddr2 8800 And the integrated graphic adapter
Cons: the only con i can think of is the motherboards gpu driver CD that comes with it doesn't work with windows 7, but that doesn't really matter since I'm using vista and xp.
Other Thoughts: Still haven't figured how to get the express gate to work, but I'll get it eventually, just have to read through the manual again and probably Google a lot.

Have to revise my last review with a rating of 1
Pros: Very nice layout, easy to hook everything up. My last review gave it a one, random reboots, bios screwy, BSOD's, freezes ect. Bought another board(Biostar, had same problems). Pulled out one of my OCZ sticks brand new...PROBLEM SOLVED. Wasn't the board at all! bad stick of memory caused my grief.
Cons: Gave it 4 out of 5 due to the facts 1. can't use the express gate with raid, and the hybrid SLI can't be used with XP! Main reason I bought the board was for the hybrid SLI. Haven't had any issues except slight sound irritations, using the latest bios and drivers.
Other Thoughts: Onboard graphics isn't too bad, but I went with a 9500GT board instead.

Helpful hint, great board
Pros: Lots of extras built onto board if you want a great media center and don't have to add a thing
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I bought a Nspire modular power supply and the 24 pin connector is actually a 23 pin, which I found a lot of them being built now. Well they removed the -5 volt wire form the connector, this board requires it, so almost sent back before finally checking this out. Make sure the PS you get has all 24 pins.

Nice board, but...
Pros: Really nice board, lots of features. Installed an Intel e7300 with 4Gb G.Skill dual channel and WD Caviar 500Gb SATA2. Everything works great but the sound....GRRRRR....
Cons: This board got 3 eggs from me simply because when I'm playing games, listening to music or watching a DVD, I get a very brief stuttering sound (almost like a skipping cd, but faster). This is with regular stereo speakers plugged into the audio out jack. Haven't tried HDMI yet, almost afraid to...
Other Thoughts: I have updated the BIOS and got all the most recent drivers, and this problem persists. Visited many tech forums and found that this is a known issue with this board. Haven't found a solution yet, and ASUS isn't much help. Very frustrating. If anyone has a fix for this, I'd love to hear about it.

i am mad!
Pros: the one that i got does not work! so i got nothing to say in this part.
Cons: i installed the board correctly first time i ran it that worked till vista loading bar and then bluescreeen came up it rebooted itself and ask me if i want to repair my startup wel i did and it said its fixed it restarted itself and tada.. Nothing works.. Black screen and monitorr's light blinks itself..
Other Thoughts: this is second time i bought something from here, and i had to send it back to newegg for replacement. Now this is my second product i just bought another 10 dolar for shipping label.. i am gonna send it back to newegg soon. But i dont appriciate people..
