Rating + 1 Seems cool but not really

Pros: Board looks sick lots of features

Cons: If the Board actually would work for more than 5 minutes it would be great. The board has plenty room for expansion only prob is the computer would just shutdown for no reason after a few minutes after it fully boot and wouldn't again until a cold boot. I tried everything to get it to work, monitored temps and halted all errors on POST but to no avail. The on-board LED is a nice touch to debug your probs if they sent ya a manual to debug them lol. Even when I looked up the codes they were not very clear and when I did try what it said to do to fix it, which is removing a chip and putting it back it shut off after 5 minutes and gave me the same error each time i did it.

Other Thoughts: Thanks to Newegg for their speedy RMA!!!

Rating + 1 UGH!

Pros: 3 pci-e slots, ddr3 capable...thats it.

Cons: Where to start...how about the fact this board crashes my computer, or totally freezes it. The bios forgets settings, and the newest bios update is way old, and even worse than the original bios. This board was supposed to be "awesome" but boards of far less ability out perform this thing!! Just typing this, my computer has froze 4 times! My old Biostar T-series ran way better then this thing! DON'T BUY!!

Other Thoughts: Newegg couldn't refund me because I sent in for a rebate, so they told me to talk to Foxconn, I talked to Foxconn, they told me to update my bios, I already had the latest bios. Big help guys...

Rating + 1 Foxconn X38A MoBo

Pros: X38 Chipset mobo at great value. Around $100 between Newegg promo and rebate. Uses either DDR2 or DDR3 memory. Has onboard FDD (Intel board doesn't). Hugely important in some situations. Good selection of other features.

Cons: Worked well for first couple of days. Then a few BSODs. Then lots of BSODs. After many HDDs, video card and memory swaps, kept getting worse. Then onboard HDA audio chip went bad. Same problems with both 32- and 64-bit Win-XP installs. Temps and fan speeds OK. Finally asked for RMA.
Foxconn hasn't updated the BIOS since sep2008. Same for all drivrs. Intel, EVGA, ASUS all provide more regular updates for mainstream products.
Even though mobo supports both DDR2 and DDR3, you can't use both types simultaneously. Also, max DDR3 support only 4 GB. Forget about running 64-bit OS with lots of fast memory.

Other Thoughts: This is my first Foxconn build in over 200 PC builds in the last 13 years. I've usually stayed with the better known mfgrs. Components used in this build were excellent - Q9450 cpu, OCZ Gold DDR3 memory, Seagate and Hitachi (500G/1TB) HDDs, all new. Never had a board experience creeping failure, when all outward signs seemed OK. Not likely to use or recommend Foxconn again.
Sorry, folks. Really did have high hopes.

Rating + 1 Defective MB, Very bad customer service.

Pros: Vista 64 installed easily, too bad the machine is unusable due to USB issues.

Cons: Under Vista 64, the 4 USB ports (coming through the IO shield) are problematic, The rest are sometimes intermittent. I have been going back and forth with Foxconn for quite some time trying to get an RMA, with them fighting all the way. Right now I owe them yet one more response, and I hope they will finally help me on this.

Other Thoughts: Foxconn ?may? have a good product not including the board I received, but their customer service is so bad that I will not buy any Foxconn product again.

Rating + 1 not as good as advertised

Pros: I agree with the Pro's from most of the other posts (when all is working well) so I won't bother to repeat them.

Cons: Poor technical support, poor bios that doesn't hold OC settings after reboot (at least for me), and poor technical support... oh, did I already say that?

I unplugged my my monitor from one of the 2 DVI ports on my video card in order to use it temporarily with my old pc. Upon plugging the monitor back into the new pc, I noticed the resolution was out of whack. Thinking it related perhaps to having not plugged it back into the same DVI port, I unplugged it and plugged it into the other DVI port and was met by a completely blank monitor. Tried to reboot and pc wouldn't even post. Removed all components except CPU and 1 ram stick and same results (figured I'd at least get some beeps for not having a video card attached but nothing). The debug LED on the board displays "9b". A google search turned up this explanation: "Returned after RS-232 base address. Going to do any initialization before Co-processor test". Sure would be nice to know what's trying to initialize.

Other Thoughts: I submitted an inquiry to Foxconn tech. support about 2 weeks ago regarding my issue and have yet to receive any sort of response. Interestingly, they were very responsive when I asked a question prior to deciding to purchase the board.

Unplugging a monitor while a pc is on is probably a no-no, but it shouldn't F-up my board. Why does the mobo. have a debug LED if Foxconn can't even help me understand what the error code means?

Rating + 1 ITs ok BUT.........

Pros: It has many options. The ddr3 and ddr 2 support is a nice feature. The heatasinks are capable and the board layout is comparable to other boards.

Cons: The bios is a pain. It constantly forgets settings like ram timings. It also seems to have issues with ram faster then cas 5. If you overclock its a serious pain. The review sites may be getting these high mhz marks chances are its not the off the shell board foxconn sent them. Its also extremely pickey about ram. My centon ddr 2 533 made it beep like r2d2 with turrets. I just tried the ram to see if my patriot ddr 2 4gb kit was the issue. The centon worked fine in my asus p5b delux wifi my, msi neo, and old abit fatality. Foxconn needs to stick to system builder boards. They have no place in the enthusiast market. Do yourself a favor and get a better board Foxconn hasn't a clue how to handle a high end board.

Other Thoughts: I realy wanted to like this board, but I would have been better served by getting a ddr2 only asus formula or a gygabite board and waiting on ddr 3 to drop in price.

Rating + 1 REALLY BAD

Pros: There is not anything good about this board!!!

Cons: I had to look on the internet for hours to find the list of the debug codes for the mobo. The list wasnt even on Foxconns site. I recieved error d4. The tech support said either my ram was bad or I had bent pins on my cpu, after talking with them I put the ram into my old P5WD2-e Premium and they worked fine. From what I have found out bent cpu pins would not cause this error. I hope I can send my mobo to get replaced so that I can send the rebate before it expires!! I really hope that my replacement is better!!!

Other Thoughts: I feel like someone stabbed me!!!

Rating + 1 Why, Foxconn, Why?

Pros: Had the new X38 chipset, so it should have run my X1950's like a dream. DDR2/3 support for an upgrade later. No outlandish heatpiping solution completely surrounding the processor socket.

Cons: The thing just won't work. LED debugging screen shows a different error code every time I turn the thing on. Will never boot into windows, just an infinite rebooting cycle. All the hardware was checked and double checked in my other ASUS board, everything checks out, so why won't everything work on the Foxconn? I wanted this board to work. I really did. Even flashed the BIOS to the newest version, no change whatsoever. I don't know if there's some odd incompatibility with every piece of hardware that I own or what, but all the pieces work in other boards, so something's not right with this board.

Other Thoughts: WAIT on getting this X38 board... mabye look at it in the future when they get it working right. Go with the MARS or something else on a proven, mature chipset. That's what I'll be doing now after wasting a week with this board...

Rating + 1 no no no

Pros: It works well when it's running. It has DD2 and 3 support :)

Cons: IT WILL DIE ON YOU. As much as the sun is bright Foxconn boards are horrid. Their capacitors don't have a long life. Every Foxconn board I've ever used in a PC has died within 6 months - 2 years. If this board dies on me I'm switching to ASUS or Abit.
