Rating + 5 Good card for the money

Pros: Great OC capability, since it can OC to about where I stock 4850 is.

Also, it's not too loud on 100%, and stays cool, which is a major plus when pushing those OCs.

Cons: Not going to really be enough for the higher resolutions, but that should be obvious, but it should be enough up to 16x10.

Other Thoughts: If you're on a budget, nothing's better then this card!

Rating + 3 Good card, I got a defective one

Pros: Great card for the money - gets great FPS on most games and stays cool.

Cons: I received a bad card. Had to RMA it based on screen flickering and multiple crashes.

Other Thoughts: Terrific card if I didn't receive a faulty one. I hear the new release (model # with HDMI at the end) has less issues with it.

Pros: With my 19" 1280x1024 , can max out most games. Getting very acceptable fps. Crossfire them for a cheap alternative to a more expensive card.

Rating + 3 Mine died

Pros: When it was working it was impressive for a budget card. It blew my 7800gt out of the water. Sad part is that it died the following day. Newegg did allow an RMA on it with no hassles...but still a pain. I upgraded to a gts-250 for only ten buckaroos more. I have never had problems with Nvidea cards so back into the fold for me.

Cons: It died in a day

Other Thoughts: ..it happens.

Rating + 1 Driver problems getting worse

Pros: I can still browse the internet, some games still work.

Cons: Each release of drivers makes this thing work worse. Checkout the AMD support forums before buying this card. Use of version 8.11 seems to have the least amount of issues.

Other Thoughts: Terrible performance at this point. Could overclock easily in ver 8.12, now any type of overclock locks my computer. Massive amount of complaints over at AMD forum seemed to be totally ignored by AMD. Very disappointed so far. Vista home premium, amd x2 5200, 2 gig 800mhz ram, single 5830 vcard, net frame 3.5, directx 10.1, catalyst 9.3, msi k9a2 platinum.

Pros: This card Is great on Xplane 9 minus antialising i maxed out every setting and still runs smooth at 1920x1200
Older source games like CSs and DODs are amazing.
BF2142 is great ill test it out on COD4 soon and GTA as well.

Cons: of course update the drivers the stock drivers seem a bit buggy

Other Thoughts: it was replaced with on with built in HDMI a week after i got this not a con its a great card i dont think you can get any more bang for the buck

Pros: Overclocks like a champ, I can play games at maxed settings on my lame 1440x900 monitor.

Cons: If I had a higher resolution monitor, this might start to slow down.

Other Thoughts: Great oomph for the price.

Rating + 5 Great Card!

Pros: *Great bang for the buck when I purchased it. Got it for $79.99.

*Haven't seen this card break over 50C yet! Stays cool! HUGE FAN!

*Played through most modern releases flawlessly; Fallout 3 on HQ settings never looked any better.

Cons: *None! Great product!

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace a dying PNY9600GT I had, haven't looked back since!

Rating + 3 A decent but loud card

Pros: It's a decently powered card, but I probably would not have used it to its true potential since I don't game as much anymore. The card runs very cool, even with no case fans running and decent ventilation holes in my setup (max I ever got was 60C), but read my cons as to why...

Cons: This card, as others have stated, has a problem with its fan. This 4830 does not have much fan control below 50%, meaning it will stay loud, even at 1%, and louder starting at maybe around 30%. It is a disappointment because I wanted a quiet desktop, and this card ruined the silence that I wished to get. I have a PNY 7600GT that isn't much better when put on load, but at least that the 7600GT's fan is controllable, meaning I could set when to ramp up the fan at a specific temperature. I couldn't do this with the 4830 using Rivy as I could with my 7600GT.

Other Thoughts: Now, it may not be a problem for everyone, but for me it is. I could upgrade to a 4850 and hope for the best, or upgrade to an aftermarket fan, or even downgrade to the best of last generation cards. I guess this is what budget means, cutting stuff/features out to make cards cheaper, and annoy the customers in the end.

Rating + 1 Noisy and Broken

Pros: Good price/performance ratio. Excellent return service by New Egg.

Cons: Was non=functioning. Only allowed system VGA. The fan is the loudest part of my system. Tech support from Sapphire was rather poor.

Other Thoughts: It is disappointing to get a card which is functional enough to get some video but not the graphic capabilities of the card. I spent way too long trying to make this card work and in resolving the problems with the vendor and ATI tech support. I'm switching to a different vendor in hopes of better quality control.

Rating + 5 Great implementation of an excellent product!!

Pros: The Radeon HD 4800 series is a great graphics family, you already know it. the 4830 is the little brother, but this little brother is not weak at all. Very likely you have already read the revies all over the web, so you know how potent the Radeon HD4830 is (faster than the GeForce 800GT / 9800 GT)

Sapphire did a very good job in its implementation, the card is decent length, PCI express power connector is accesible, the heatsink is huge and hence very good at cooling the card. Even better, the fan is decently quiet at full load, and adjust automatically depending on load. I can browse the web and the fan barely spins. Start an game and it will spin as needed.

Bundle is adequate (Component TV out cable, DVI to HDMI adapter, TV S video out, PCI express poweer adapter to molex)

Cons: Really no cons, just items to keep in mind:

- Heatsink is huge, it takes the adjacent slot. However, I knew it from the pictures, so this wasn't a surprise.
- No native HDMI

Other Thoughts: Very well made card of a very good chip. Good job Sapphire!

Rating + 3 LOUD!

Pros: Everything runs well as expected. Very satisfied for its power/price ratio and it's a great upgrade from my x1650 agp my old computer. 3Dmark06 around 10000pts without OC very nice.

Cons: Fan runs too loud. I thought that I got a bad fan or something but it's not. After I search the internet and look at the recent comments here, I can conclude that the fan runs too loud and it is the fan design problem. I use Catalyst 9.2 to manual adjust the fan speed to 20% but it's still too loud and spin too fast. I try again to set "auto" then Catalyst set fan speed to 1% but the noise level is exactly same as 20%!

My previous cards are Sapphire too the 9600pro and x1650pro agp. Both cards can adjust fan speed to 1% and close to silence level, by using ATI Tool. Now the Ati Tool cannot detect my 4830 and feel sad I cannot set the real speed of 1% as before.

This 4830 always keeps at 33c in 2d mode (aka idle mode). I'd like to trade of my temperature to 40c or 45c by lowering the fan speed to 1% this will reduce much noise than I current have!

Other Thoughts: I don't know if I should exchange another brand's 4830 or should I just keep it and get another aftermarket cooler.

Is it Sapphire's problem or is it the 4830 design problem in general?

Pros: AWESOME card.

It's super cheap and very powerful. It plays all of my games (CoD4, Hellgate london, GTA:SA, L4D, etc.) on the highest quality on every setting. Its quiet and was very easy to install.

Cons: When it's under full load the fan starts to get alittle loud, but if you're gaming you shouldn't be able to hear it ;)

Other Thoughts: DEFINITE buy for anyone looking to build a budget gaming computer.

Rating + 5 Great Card

Pros: Not too loud and runs World at War with no problems. Lots of bang for the buck.

Cons: Fan on the heat sink is huge, so you will lose the slot below it, and may not be able to use the second slot down. Second slot loss depends on the size of the card you want to use in it. A small card won't interfere with fan on the video card.

Other Thoughts: Needs to be plugged in! Requires a 6 pin plug off your power supply. If you don't have a 400+ watt power supply, you should probably get a cheaper video card.

Rating + 2 It was good - while it lasted

Pros: Price/Perfomance
includes a d-sub to six pin PCI connector in case your PSU doesn't have one.

Cons: I had it less than a month on my new build. At first it was great as the only intense games I play are Battlefield Vietnam and Command and Conquer 3. About 3 days ago I noticed artifacts and streaks across the screen in BFV and just got worse - to the point of unbearable. Good thing I had three days left to RMA the thing before the 30 day return policy ran out. Sapphire's support page seems to be a joke that I didn't even want to bother with. I bought another 4830 though, from Newegg of course, and another brand.

My new rig:
Phenom II 940 3.0
Asrock AOD790GX/128M
G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit
CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W PSU
2X WD5000AAKS 500GB Hard Drive
Pioneer 20X DVD Burner DVR-116DBK - OEM

Other Thoughts: I still like the price/perfomance of the HD4830. Newegg's service was great. I wish the return policy was longer. I guess I will have to take a closer look at that before I buy, instead of how many peaple purchased it.

Rating + 5 Excellent price for an excellent card

Pros: Excellent price. Easy to physically install, find and update the drivers. Scores 5.9 on Vista. No appreciable heat build up in the case. Upgraded from an Nvidia 9400gt and trust me it is worth it. Handles everything I have thrown at it (FO3, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Cod4, GTA4) with high or ultra high settings.

Cons: Card with fan is HUGE. Overlaps and blocks 2 of my SATA plugs, completely overlaps one of my PSI slots and the top of the fan sits labout am 1cm from my SB xGamer. Physically no way to run this in crossfire with my current mobo due to space limits (2nd card even if fit heightwise would overlap my RAM)

Ran into driver conflicts having had an nvidia GPU and the system has an Nvidia 780i chipset. Ended up having to reformat and reinstall to get things settled. Not Neweggs or ATIs fault though.

Other Thoughts: Card is over 21cm (8.5 inchs) long and the fan about 5-6cm tall. Seriously suggest taking measurements of your case and mobo before considering this.

Rating + 5 Who needs a HD 4870??

Pros: This card is absolutely amazing! Once you get past the buggy installation and tweaking process (difficulty depends on you!) this thing runs like a dream!! Runs Crysis and everything else on highest settings at 1204x780 (why go any higher? Seriously?) FLAWLESSLY!!!!!

Cons: It did take me about a week to figure out all the different system confilcts and what not that were crashing this thing (the main problen was ATI's CCC). I was getting SD resolutions max. Stutters through every game even on lower settings. Overclocking feature of CCC crashed everytime. Accessing graphic option menus on some games (Farcry 2 mostly) would crash it.

Other Thoughts: BUT NONE OF THAT HAPPENS NOW!!! I had my S-video cable and HDMI cable going to seperate monitors. No matter how I switched it the settings stayed limited to s-video capabilities. Unplugged the S-video... Viola!! This thing is a freaking mutant superhero bad ---!!!! (moral of the story. Don't be stupid. Don't blame the card when you are stupid. Don't give up on troubleshooting. There is a fix to every problem, so don't just sit there in front of a fuzzy screen sulking in your buyer's remorse. FIX IT!!!! -- Oh, and for dual monitors I suggest using two of the same resolution.)

Pros: Great performance, runs very well in Fallout3

Pros: It had a pretty cool looking box. Arrived on time. Had no trouble sending it back.

Cons: When the card was installed the video was distorted and grainy. End result was that the card was defective and had to be returned. Also, because of the size of the heat sink/ fan it barely fit in the slot. For anyone who has a motherboard with components in close proximity to one another, or a processor with a large heat sink on it, be aware that the fan takes up a LOT of room.

Cons: Name, Sapphire isn't the biggest name such as EVGA/XfX but they have been around for a bit and really with the 4800 series of ATI cards they have learned to shine like no other.

Other Thoughts: Not very big, Fits in a Micro ATX Case.

Rating + 3 Defective Cooling Fan??

Pros: The HD 4830 is a great card, probably the best price->performance on the market right now.

Cons: My fan is extremely LOUD! I've read some reviews where people say the fan is unbearably loud (which mine is), and others say they can barely hear it at idle. So there's either poor quality control on these fans and some are defective. or maybe they switched to a newer fan that is quieter on newer models and I just happened to get one from old inventory stock. The fan on the card that I got is at least twice as loud as all of the other components in my case combined (stock Intel CPU cooler, 3 case fans, Hard Drive, PSU fan).

Other Thoughts: I think I'm going to send it back and exchange it for one that hopefully has a quieter fan.

Pros: It worked straight out the box, handles everything I throw at it. Also for such an awkward fan it runs quiet and cool. Sapphire has definitely improved over the years. This is my second card from them recently and I cant complain. I am also surprised by the size of it, my last nvidia card was larger, not saying that this one is small by any standards though.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I still hate UPS drivers, the guy tossed the box this card came in from the back of his truck to the from. I nearly killed the guy. Nice to see Newegg pack stuff well.

Pros: Nice resolution, everything looked good. Could play my games on high settings.

Cons: This was my boyfriend's card that I was using temporarily. It worked fine for a few days. Then, it kept shutting down my pc, and giving me an error message saying the drivers were bad. I reinstalled the drivers and it worked fine again for about a week. Then it kept shutting down again after 15 mins of watching a video. Not even anything all that intense. Come to find out it was an overheating issue. I got so frustated I took it out and stuck with my onboard graphics until I bought my 9800GTX+

Other Thoughts: NZXT Apollo, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400, ASUS M3N78 PRO, OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU, 4GB G.SKILL DDR2 800, Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 7200 RPM HD

Rating + 5 Excellent Card for the money

Pros: Very fast card, even at stock gpu speed.

It plays all current games on high settings. I got Fallout 3 to 'ultra high' settings at 1680 x 1050 without even a glitch.

Fan speed is very quiet, I can't even hear it over my cpu fan.

Cons: As expected, the size of the fan blocked my pci slot.

Autotune feature is suspect at best.

Not a big deal, but its not the prettiest looking card out there.

Other Thoughts: As every gamer is well aware, a good video card is determined if it can handle Crysis on 'High' settings. This card handles Crysis very well at 1680 x 1050 on high. I got Crysis Warhead to play at 'enthusiast' settings, although it appeared that Crytek dumbed down the detail a bit.

The Autotune feature gave me a recommended setting of 690 gpu and 1190 memory clocks, however COD 4 started locking up on me, even when I increased the fan speed. But I wont hold that against Sapphire or ATI, because this card actually solved the "dancing red pixel" problem I had with my (Asus VM122) 22" monitor.

Its hard to believe I paid 100 bucks for a card this good. I going to get another for crossfire real soon.

Rating + 5 Having Problems

Pros: You can't get a better performing video card out there for the price(in my opinion). Video card is working get but there are several Monitors out there that are having problems working with ATI Radeon 4000 series cards(Of course, mine would be one of those).

Cons: Not sure yet.

Other Thoughts: The problem seem to be that the card is producing frequencies at higher settings than my X20WC-Gamer monitor can handle. Sets my 1680X1050 resolution at 110hz and it's max is 60hz. Read an article stating that my EDID on the monitor could be corrupted but still haven't been able to fix. Works fine on my 40" Sony Bravia TV @ 1920X1080.

Pros: this card was purchased to provide video out to multiple screens in sports bar.

so far so good. we use it for sports blooper videos, online sports content, and as a media center jukebox.

so far it has worked perfect.

I was skeptical about video quality, I was wrong. It is great either 720p or 1080i.

I wish it was native HDMI. We are using a combo of component and DVI to HDMI adapted. We do not need the audio.

Pros: This GPU is solid! Plays COD 4 on the highest settings with FPS in the mid 90's! Specs on the card are solid as well and for the price you can't beat it. I would recommend this card to anyone on a tight budget who needs a great graphic card to play games on.

Cons: The only con is if you use a PCI slot under the PCI Express slot. The card is big and may block it. It doesn't bother me any since I don't use PCI slots.

Other Thoughts: ATI Rocks and have always been pleased with their products!

Pros: Plays Crysis and Crysis Warhead on highest settings with very few stutters from time to time. Makes pc games its bit-- um, unconsenting lover. Does so at an incredibly affordable price. 100 bucks for some highly potent eyecandy!

Cons: I still can't get it to overclock at all without freezing my system. I still blame the overclock software in CCC. However, after coming to terms with the fact that I won't be overclocking this thing I actually played some games and realized quite quickly that I won't need to.

Other Thoughts: This is the third review I've written for this card. I wish I could delete the other two. Oh, well. After spending some quality time with this little gem I realized it deserved a 5 the whole time. My fault for being a presumptuous egg-head. Also, the price on this thing is freakin' jumpy. Pros: Definitely a good deal for the price. Saphire includes all necessary adapters. Good power management under CCC, the fan barely moves under no use.

Cons: I bought the card for an HTPC to do Hardware Acceleration of my video files. DXVA support is lacking big time as mkv encodes have to be done very specifically to get full HA with these cards. It worked for less than half of my video files and one in particular was completely unwatchable because of artifacts and garbage in the picture. After replacing this card with a cheap, no frills 9500gt the problems are gone and everything I have uses full HA for smooth playback on an otherwise old pc system.

Other Thoughts: If you don't need HA for video, I'm sure this card is great. I sold mine to a friend who is putting it to good use on his primary gaming system. Not for me.

Rating + 5 THE BEAST

Pros: AMAZING! I got this for my games to be played at max! and it does! i played COd4 maxed out 60-225 fps. GRID 55-120. MIRRORS EDGE(BTw amazing game)maxed OUT 60(auto sync). Crysis on VERY high 30-80(when looking at the sky). duting some of my torture tests the Gpu only went up to 45c. NOT THAT HOT, alot of room to overclock. i got this on 2-26-09 and it was 89.99 free shipping. now its 119 so that sycks for u =). After i overclock i was able to beat my dads friends 4850 in all benchmarks except L4d.

Cons: boring box.

Other Thoughts: e7300 OC'd to 3.10 ghz (stock voltages)
2 gigs kingstan ramm 800mhz.
my bad Psu works on this so yea (480watts, MAKER IS UNKNOWN)

Rating + 4 nice little video card

Pros: This is a nice little card. I used it to replace a couple of nvidia 8600 cards for the desktop. I don't play a lot of high end games, but the video quality and hardware accelerated playback and encoding is very nice to have (in Windows). For those that play games I play Fallout 3, World of Warcraft, and Sins of a Solar Empire very well on a 1680x1050 DVI screen with just an AMD 5200 X2 cpu. For programming, I'm hoping OpenCL support matures into a well used API.

Cons: Linux drivers still need work. OpenCL still needs maturity. Not a lot of software out there will utilize OpenCL nor AMD/ATI's Stream framework. Linux currently has no OpenCL support. The Linux drivers also lack any real hardware acceleration for video playback (including basic mpeg2 acceleration let alone mpeg4).
The fan on this card is oversized and quite noisy. Do not buy this card if you want a quiet computer!

Other Thoughts: Sapphire could have used a quieter fan on this card. Also note, if you're an overclocker you can take this card's performance to near that of an 4850's "normal" clock freq.

Rating + 4 nice card, but a bit loud

Pros: Easy install, easy to overclock, easy driver installation, great frame rates, 2 DVI connections with no adapters needed, ATI software easy to use.

It works great at stock speeds with dual monitors, and works fine overclocked to 700/1000 with a single monitor.

Cons: Cooling fan is pretty loud, and sometimes there's a high-pitched sound coming from the fan at low speeds. This sound was pointed out in one of the online reviews, so apparently it's not just mine. The sound goes away if the fan speed is raised manually above 31%, but then you have to remember to put it back to auto when gaming. I ended up buying an expensive case (Antec P182) to help muffle the noise. I'm deducting 1 egg because of the significant cost of the quieter case.

As others have mentioned, this card does not like dual monitors if overclocked. You get colorful patterns and then the computer locks up or reboots. Also, the "auto" overclock feature in the software overclocks the memory too far, resulting in artifacts. That's easily fixed, though.

Does not include crossfire cable. I was going to buy another one when they went on sale again and run them in crossfire mode until I saw the price for 2 crossfire cables plus shipping.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm very happy with this card. The only game I play (RealFlight) runs super awesome with it, with frame rates at or above 60fps.

With an OC'ed e7300 on a Gigabyte GA-G31 board, I got 12,900 on 3Dmark06, if that means anything to anyone.

Rating + 5 Great!

Pros: Looks can be deceiving. This card is an example of that, but then again, you should be looking at the specs and not the pretty pictures.

I upgraded to this from my onboard HD3200. Wow! What an improvement! The CCC has made my movie watching experience so much better. The picture is brighter, smoother, and a lot more vivid.

I don't play any games with serious graphics (I don't think I've bought a new game since October), but I did download the Crysis demo to test this thing out. The gameplay at high was pretty good. I saw a couple stutters with the videos, but that could just be the demo.

Cons: No crossfire bridge.

The price was also dancing around when I bought this. I've never seen Newegg change the price on a single item as often as they did the week I bought this. Kinda weird.

Other Thoughts: This card is a great deal. If you can get it with free shipping, even better.

Rating + 4 Good card, BAD software!

Pros: The card itself is good. For the price its absolutely stunning. But don't expect exteptional for less than 200 bucks! I max out Gears of War with this thing and it can get a bit choppy at times (but sure is pretty!).

Cons: ATI Catalyst Control Center!!!!! The normal display and graphic adjustments are actually pretty intuitive and work just as they should (though I still cant understand why it limits my res to 1024x720 when my HD3200 let me set it at 19**x whatever). The part that will really have you losing it is "ATI Overdrive" which is the overclocking feature. My card kept crashing and crashing and crashing and I didn't even have it over clocked. I simply had this feature inabled. Thats all. NO settings were altered! But eversince I unchecked the "enable ATI overdrive" box its all been AOK!!! So merely having it active for some reason makes the card go loopy. I may just have a defective card but others have been overclocking these babies beyond 4870 specs with great success! What gives!!??

Other Thoughts: I'd like to apologize for my previous review of this item. I actually had boot problems that were no fault to this card just another one of those Vista vs Vista things. I had to run FixBoot and all that is fine. I really should have done more research before jumping to conclusion, but I was a bit upset at the moment. Heck, look at all those keys I forgot to hit. Looks like my two-year-old typed that mess. ANYWAY, the card is great!!! Just don't overclock it!! Atleast not with CCC's ATI Overdrive!!!

Pros: Extremely quiet and runs cool. I tried out crysis with this card and it ran ok on high settings, best on medium but still playable. I mainly play WoW and my fps on max settings is about 40 average in Northrend. Get up to 75-120 fps in oldworld and caves. I recommend this to anyone looking for a low budget upgrade from their stock video card.

Cons: Doesn't clean my apt.

Other Thoughts: DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM A STORE. EVER.

Pros: The card rand what i wanted with everything on high(mostly steam games) I get around 140fps and will jump up to anywhere to 250fps

It fit well
easy intall

Cons: The overclocking program that comes with it is bad news. SO DONT USE IT, it made it tare really bad and i think it might have damaged my vid card

Also its ugly

Lacks the graphic card appeal of lets say the 8800gt EVGA or The 4870

Other Thoughts: Umm very good for the price

its well worth it if u wanna game but dont wanna break the bank

If u can get the 4850

Rating + 4 My Rig's Going Ape$*%#!! (On high settings)

Pros: It does what its supposed to. Makes my games look pretty. Running everything on all high settings. Definately the best price to performance ration there is. Doesn't get much better than this for a hundred bucks.

Cons: Okay... Since installing this card my system has been going ape$*&#!! It took three hard restarts before my hard drive was detected (kept hanging during post). Now it says one of mypartitions is unrecognized or something everytime I boot, but it still allows me to boot into either one. I had my 7750 overclocked to 3.1 running smooth for weeks, but now its failed. I cannot overclock it at all. Same with the GPU itself. I cannot overclock this card at all. Everything crashes! No BSOD just total freeze. Now everythings back at default and minor problems still persist. My screen resolution has no option higher than 1024x730 or whatever. While my I only ran my onboard HD 3200 i could set my res as high as my heart's content. I tried out all my games and they all look beautiful but even the simlest get artifacts and frame breaks and what not. I'm talking about SPORE and FABLE and WOW. Stuff my HD 3200 can run flawlessly on mid to high settings at higher resolutions!!!

Other Thoughts: I just don't freakin' understand. I got the latest driver "Catalyst 9.2" and I did all I was supposed to upon installation. It's like my system is trying to reject this thing. Any tips on what I may be doing wrong? Its running in Vista Ultimate 32 and 64 (opposite partitions). You think maybe its conflicting with something else?

Pros: Great value - effective fansink and good cooling; ATI drivers are so-so but no VPU resets with this model

Cons: Price keeps dropping; but is that a con ?

Rating + 5 ahhhhhhhh hmmmmmm

Pros: I am giving this gpu 5 eggs for the following reasons.

1 considering the capabilities of the card at the current price point, its an advantageous purchase for the money.

The card uses a small amount of power considering how the capabilities.

The fan is decent quality, i have a cooler master heatsink on an amd kuma, and my mother board temps have never exceeded 89f.

I can play every game i have on 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz.

Cons: As i said i can play every game i have on an hd resolution, the only down side is that the card doesnt quite] have enough muscle to make everything smoothe and seemless. Some games still have jagged little edges on walls and textures. I have an amd kuma 2.7 and 4gb of 1066 ram, so power isnt the problem its just unfortunately the card. 2 of these is a must if you want to have a smooth experience.

Other Thoughts: Before this card, i was an xFx fan using nvidia. I am some what impressed with this card, i think in my mind i was expecting a little too much out of this card. it is almost there.....almost.
I personally went out on a limb with this one. I wanted to see how good of a system i could build with the lowest price possible. I bought this card and have it x'fired with the onboard 128 mb ati gpu from my MB.

I would buy two of these instead of one. if you want a seem less gaming experience.

also one other thing. different game engines look better on different cards, ie nvidia or ati. Ultimate Aliance looks breath taking, but hit man blood money is suprisingly a little choppy in certain areas. like i said just buy two, do yourself a favor. a 600w ps is cable of xfiring this card.

Rating + 5 Great Budget Video Card

Pros: - Runs everything I throw at it like a champ, runs Dead Space, Crysis, Fallout 3 all at high settings without batting an eye.
- Surprisingly quiet and efficient
- Runs cool
- Not massive like many other cards
- Can't beat the price tag. Just can't.

Cons: It's not fancy-looking like the more expensive cards with all the silly stuff all over them. Just a circuit board with a nice big fan. Which is only a con if you have a see-through side panel and want to show off or something.

Other Thoughts: Running a 2.7 ghz AMD Kuma black edition, can't wait to get an HDMI monitor (this card comes with adapters for crt monitors as well as HDMI output) and see what this baby can really do.

Pros: Easy Install Simi Big Card, Still fits my Micro ATX Mobo. The way the fan and heatsink are my SATA2 Chord have just enough room. This card compares to the 9800gT in performance yet costs $40-$60 less.

Cons: ATI drivers take a lot longer to install than navidia. The overclock in the ATI panel comes disabled.

Other Thoughts: Great Card for the money!

Rating + 1 Should have done my homework first ....

Pros: Dont have any because I never got them to display in any way except safe mode.
NewEgg did RMA them with no questions!

Cons: ATI support for driver problems seems to be lacking on the 4000 series.
Paid shipping and handling both ways and restocking fees for cards but that is NewEgg's policy so I can't hold it against them. Just read up on switching from Nvidia to ATI video cards with existing hardware before you buy.

Other Thoughts: I was looking to use 2 of these in crossfire mode to upgrade from a single 8800GT. Due to my existing hardware I ran into problems with the driver for these cards. After hours of research and attempting various solutions it turns out that there I had the same issue as many other people have been having for almost a year with the ATI 4000 series cards when paired with certain hardware.
My current rig: Gigabyte EX38-DS4 / E8400 3.0 CPU / 8GB Corsair Dominator RAM / 8800GT / Creative SB X-FI / Thermaltake 700W Toughpower PSU / HP 2207W monitor / VISTA 64 bit OS.
I ran into a display issue with the Radeon HD4830 after the VISTA load screen the monitor was no receiving a display signal from the new video card. Come to find out Nvidia drivers from the old video card made changes to my monitors EDID file. This left me with 2 options - 1 return the cards I just bought and go back to my 8800GT or 2 purchase software that would allow me to update my EDID file. I went with option 1.

Rating + 5 Best Budget Card Out There

Pros: This video card has been phenomenal and I have experienced no problems whatsoever. For those looking to get the best bang for your buck, this card uses the same GPU chipset as the 4850 (which runs at ~$140) and the 4870 (~$170-200). When overclocked, this card outperforms the 4850 and is comparable to the 4870.

Did I mention this card has tremendous overclocking potential?

Also VERY surprised to be able to run Crysis Warhead on 1680x1050 (full resolution for me) at maximum gamer settings without any lag in play. WoW runs as smooth as a baby's bottom on highest settings as well, and colors look great. ATI Catalyst software also pretty useful in helping you find maximum sustainable overclock (overdrive told me I could go to 690mhz cpu/1165 memory)

Cons: -The card itself doesn't look terribly attractive, but this really isn't a concern because it's inside the case most of the time anyway and performs extremely well.
-memory doesn't overclock as well as the the GPU (read below)
-have to wait for rebate

Other Thoughts: The recommended overclock settings as determined by ATI overdrive works for most games. I found that for the most intense game I have (Crysis warhead), i had to backdown the memory overclock to 965mhz to avoid artifacts ingame. Surprisingly, this did not affect my 3dmark 06 benchmarks much at all.

-Also, i recommend other GPU overclocking programs (like RT) to do your overclocking, but use the ATI overdrive to find your maximum potential (but tone down ur memory settings a bit to around 1000mhz)

Rating + 4 Great Card for the Money

Pros: I picked up this card as something to last me until the end of the year when the direct x 11 cards come out.

Runs HL Lost Coast with everything maxed out at 1024x1280 around 80 fps.
Runs cool around 31C at idle and low 50's at max load.
Overclocked for me to 700 shader 975 (1950) Memory which equals 4850 performance with cooler temps and a lower price!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The HD 4870's are coming down so far in price that they are only about 50 dollars more so it may make sense to go with one of those instead. I wish I did!

Rating + 4 Great Card on a Budget

Pros: This is a great card if you're on a budget and don't want to spend $200+ on a high end card. The fan is solid and keeps the card cool enough to not have to worry about heat issues. Also it doesn't overly draw power as some other cards do.

Cons: The card is big, I mean real big so make sure your case and mother board won't have issues with it. Also, I've had a few hiccups with dual monitors but nothing that makes the card not usable.

Other Thoughts: Contemplating buying a second at this price and running a Crossfire configuration.

Pros: I replaced my on board graphics (HD 3200) with this. Previously running all my games on low settings with plenty of lag, but now I run them all on high settings with AA 8x and Adaptive AA Enabled. All runs smooth.

Cons: Size. This thing is nearly as long and my motherboard is wide. Make sure your case has plenty of room so your Hard drives and card are not jammed together.

Other Thoughts: This is certainly the best card for the price. I looked for months while the money came around to get a card in the $100 range and finally i ran across this and it was actually $109 instead of $99 w/ free shipping like it was when I looked at it first, but I don't regret paying more cause this card is WELL WORTH IT.

Rating + 5 Great Budget Gaming Card

Pros: This is a great budget card for gaming rigs. I upgraded my wife's computer from an X1800XT (3 great years with that one) to play the Sims 3, which is delayed of course.

Furmark with the X1800 ran about 15 fps at 1280 x 1024 and the 4830 runs at 80 fps avg at the same res.

The 4830 idles at 35C and loads at 79C at a 20 minute Furmark run with the fan at 100%. The room ambient is 70F. I expect these temps to rise about 5C in the summer.

Easy overclocker. Stock is 575/900 and it's currently sitting at 600/1000 and asking for more.

Cons: This is my second as the first was defective. Easy RMA through Newegg as always.

The first test runs caused the card to pass 85C in about 2 minutes. I thought the heatsink just had a bad seat from the factory, so I applied AS Ceramique and reseated but it didn't help. Overclocking caused instant fullscreen artifacts.

These things happen with comp parts so I'm not docking an egg. The card is great and the RMA was easy.

Pros: runs crysis mostly enthusiast settings @ 1680*1050 17 fps average, moderately priced for the power.

Cons: I have been having some problems dealing with Anti-Aliasing (checkered pop ins). Multiple monitors froze my computer, so I don't deal with that anymore.
The specifications advertise a memory clock of 1800 Mhz, but the overclocking software only allows memory clock speeds up to 1200 Mhz. Am I Missing something? Is my product defective?

Rating + 5 Rather good card

Pros: Solid card with a good fan. Not too loud to me. Can take an okay amount of overclocking to boot. Got this to replace an nvidia 9600gt ( I know, not that old of a card ) but I got a new board and wanted to crossfire the puppies on the cheap.

Cons: Seems to have a small issue when overclocked while running dual monitors. Have a 37 inch lcd TV near my comp to watch movies on, and if I forget to undo the overclock, it will sometimes get screwy with ya. So I either leave it at default speeds, or just undo the overclock when I am not gaming.

Other Thoughts: My only actual complaint is, if you are going to run these in a crossfire situation, don't forget to order some actual crossfire bridge cables... Sapphire doesn't include them although they proudly display the ati crossfirex logo on the front of the box.

Rating + 4 One Hell of a fighter

Pros: I recently upgraded from a x1650 pro and what a huge difference on freestone group video benchmark it went from a score of 93 to 398. Overclocking is very simple with CCC although I did have to bump it back manually when I ran a stability test ended with a gpu at 690mhz and memory at 1140(2280 effective).
Pound per pound and dollar for dollar this card is hard to beat. Also size and power reqs. are reasonable.
Temp. sits at 41c at idle bumps to 60c under full stress load at 99% gpu.

Cons: I have had a couple issues with running two monitors, It has locked up a few times to unknown reasons.
Will have to play with it some more before making a final judgement.
The exhuast vent into the case but to be expected with a single slot card, nothing a couple cheap case fans can't fix.

Other Thoughts: For my system and the space limitations, only having a single slot to work with and a cpu cooler in the way.
This card is a good fit. I wouldn't have any problems recommending this card to someone with space issues(single slot) and on a budget.

Rating + 4 Great card/price

Pros: Great card, great price, upgraded from my 7600GT and the difference is unbelieveable. Strongly suggest buying vs the 4850 if it drops again to $75 (after 10 MIR), I'm still waiting on my rebate.

New Egg rocks!

Cons: For some reason, while playing FallOut 3, I see blotches every once in a while which weren't there with my 7600, it also sometimes crashes/freezes during games which didn't happen before either. I'm using Windows 7 which might be the problem even though I'm using the Sapphires' latest drivers.

Other Thoughts: I see ppl reporting that the fan is loud, I haven't had any issues even though I overclocked the MEM and GPU, definitely quieter then my 7600GT.

Pros: VERY easy to install. driver installation was a breeze (thank you ATI!). fired up Unreal Tournament 2004 and cranked everything to the highest level of detail at 1600x1200@75Hz. ran super smooth! the next test will be with Unreal Tournament 3... :)

Cons: uh... it wasn't free? they only supplied 1 DVI to VGA adapter...

Other Thoughts: Asus Crosshair motherboard
4gigs of OCZ ram
AMD Athlon 64 5200+ X2 cpu
hard drives are ALL 10,000rpm scsi

Rating + 5 Excellent Video Card

Pros: I bought this card to replace my 7900GS and I have been putting it through the ringer. So far it has run perfectly. It runs so much more quiet than my previous card.

You can't beat this card for its price!

Cons: I had a bit of trouble getting it to fit in my case but that is not the cards fault. I have a DELL XPS system and it has a ton of safety plastic covers in it I had to remove. It is also running a bit hotter(45C-57C)than I would like and again I think that is the DELL cases fault. Poor air flow

Other Thoughts: System Specs
Pent D 930 3.0
Dell Nvidia Mother Board
3gigs of g.skill ddr2 800 ram
650 watt powersupply
and this card

running current games at 70-90 FPS

Rating + 3 Power DVD HDCP Issues

Pros: Price and a $10.00 rebate also (thanks NewEgg), easy to install, quiet, lots of adapters provided with the video card. It displays Blu-ray media through VGA adapter (see Cons).

Cons: I had to RMA the initial one I received as it was defective. Currently, Cyberlink's PowerDVD is having issues recognizing it (or my Toshiba 52" Regza LCD TV, also a NewEgg item) as being HDCP compliant. That issue is currently with Cyberlilnk support to sort out. I purchased this, after getting the LG Blu-ray combo drive Model GGC-H20LK - OEM, in order to play Blu-ray discs on the HTPC I am building. So, I am rather unhappy with something in the mix, especially since I have been trying Blu-ray playing since I got the DVD drive in early January. It may be the ATI display drivers for the video card, however I did update these as recommended by Cyberlink and am still out of HDCP luck.

Other Thoughts: I am not a gamer at all, so while most of the reviews here may rave about the gaming capability of the card, I am, at the moment, stuck with a display adapter which did not meet my expectations. Hopefully, between Cyberlink and Sapphire Technology Limited I may yet see the day when I can see the Blu-ray!

Rating + 3 You decide

Pros: Runs quiet (even with side panel off) and cool for HTPC application. 8.5" length helped it fit nicely in a mid tower with a HDD adjacent to it. The details in videos are a lot clearer than with my BFG 7900 GTS. When going through the MCE set-up you can really notice the difference from the 7900 GTS.

Cons: It is not easy to set up unless you have it connected to a monitor. This being an HD card one would figure that the CCC would have a default format loaded to support 1080. Had to unisinstall software and do some messing around to get it running. Latest dviers did not work for me. Hooked up to a 46" Samsung flat panel it will not use full width of video in MCE. Had to do some tweaking to get it to run video smoothly and that was purely by luck. Had to turn on GL triple buffer so video would play smoothly in full screen mode inside MCE. Even Sapphire's website says it will do 1080p but the only format you can load in CCC is 1080i. It took me 9 hours of messing around to finally get it working with my set up and even then it does not give the desired reults.

Other Thoughts: This probably works well as a gaming card but was not what I had intended it to do so do your research. I do not recommend this for HTPC as there is way too much tweaking to do. I did get a quick response in requesting help from AMD, I have yet to hear from Sapphire but it was Friday night and then the long weekend.
BTW, my setup is an ASUS M2N-E board, AMD AM2 5000, 2GB Gskill DDR2.

Pros: install was a snap, be aware, this card is a little long and the fan is a bit large but not so much that it interfers with other stuff. Performance is fantastic, HD video is perfect, the picture on my 22" LCD was much improved over my last card, till the upgrade I didn't realize just how much I was missing! Very fast card.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: was a die hard nvidia guy for a while due to some driver issues I had with some older ati cards, this card does not disappoint. There are new reference drivers available from AMD/ATI, I'm running this card in a machine that I'm running Win7 Beta - no issues at all.

Rating + 4 Fast - glitchy?

Pros: This graphics card is great, handles Google Sketchup 7 and Fallout 3 well (see cons). scores a 5.9 on vista, like the rest of my system.

Cons: Fallout 3 (on ultra high 1600x1050) is showing random bright sparkles (often red). It may not be the card's fault, I'm trying the fallout 3 patch and some other settings. Do to the unknown source, i'm only docking one egg for this.

Other Thoughts: running:

Rating + 5 Best bang for your buck

Pros: I agree with ALL of the positive things said about this card.... its fast, stable, and ICE COLD while overclocking with the stock cooler. Overclocking headroom is GREAT!!! Ive gotten consistently perfect frame rates on ALL of my games and 1920*1080 res with highest settings possible including CoD4, Fall out 3, UT3, and Crysis. For $99 (when i bought it) their isnt a card on the market that can touch this thing!

Cons: non that i can see.

Other Thoughts: You will not regret your purchase. If your thinking of buying the 4850 for the extra boost in performance your making a big mistake, cause this things clocks up to near 4850 performance without breaking a sweat, so save you money and get this!!!

Rating + 5 is there a better deal out there?

Pros: well..i did a little research and this card has some impressive numbers...so for 79.99...i couldnt pass it up.
going from a geforce 7300gs to this was like night and day...seriously. i ran 3dmark06 before the card was installed and i couldnt even break ONE FRAME A SEC!..
i was expecting to not have the results I have seen online and on youtube since I was putting this into an older p4-d 930. well....i was completely wrong..this card plays everything perfectly smooth at the highest settings. cod 4, cod 5, crysis demo, crysis warhead (plays a little choppy....but playable and if put in dx9 mode..its perfect. gta 4, mirrors edge, waw...anything you can find will play well on this card. I have compared it to many cards and dont see any benefits with the more expensive gpus..

Cons: i overclocked the card for a little while, but i think my power supply just cant handle much...and i got artifacts during benchmarking.
also, avivo converter doesnt work in vista 64..which sucks because I would love to see how this converts h264 using the hardware...oh well..NEW DRIVERS PLEASE ATI!

Other Thoughts: i love this card..it has made every game a possibility on my computer now...and not just at low..i run them all at highest settings with 1920-1080...in fact..crysis sp demo runs so well in dx10 on this setup..its almost strange.

Rating + 5 Great budget card

Pros: Runs everything either maxed or near max. WoW at 1280x1024 with EVERYTHING maxed including shadows 70+ FPS in Dalaran. WoW nor my 12x10 resolution are by no means cutting edge, but if you're in the market for a cheaper card that can still play every game out there maxed, or maybe a bit tuned down for games like Crysis, this is the one. At first, I was going to get a 4850, but for 50 bucks less I can almost get the same performance.

Cons: Do I even need to say it? Obviously, it won't run Crysis with all settings maxed and AA and get playable framerates, but anyone who knows even a little about video cards should know this by now.

Other Thoughts: I just built my own PC for the first time, and this card should last me at LEAST a year. I'm coming from a PC with Athlon 1800 and a 4x AGP video card. I have some willpower when it comes to upgrading my rig. If you're like me, who can settle for running the games just coming out at medium-high settings and don't have to get 80fps at 2500x1500 resolutions, then this is the card to get, hands down.

Pros: Hopefully the value. I want this thing to work so bad. As of right now, there's nothing but trouble.

Cons: Running into a Direct3D Device 9 error when trying to run COD:WAW. Card is replacing an XFX 7900GS that was a gem. Which hurts all the more. Have an updated BIOS, updated ATI drivers and still a no-go.

Other Thoughts: Not NewEgg's fault it isn't working. But still wanted to put this out there in case somebody else has information about this error or has encountered it. I'll continue working with it for a few more days before I try to get a replacemnt. Will update my review if all goes well.

Rating + 5 Crossfire

Pros: This is my second review. 1st was for a single Sapphire 4830. This review is for 2 in crossfire mode.

I did this upgrade so that I may run Crysis Warhead at 1920x1200 Enthusiast. Which I can, but just have to set
Shader Quality to Gamer. COD4 all max 4xAA 19200x1200 get constant 60fps, same for Fallout 3. I have them overclocked to 700/1000. I scored 19000 3dmark06 (My Cpu was at 4ghz). This is great preformance at low cost.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I ordered 2 of these cards originally and the second one was DOA. Processed an RMA though NewEgg, sent it back and now I have 2 good working 4830's to run cossfire. Thanks Newegg for a flawless RMA process. I replaced an Diamond 3870x2.

Pros: Tripled my FPS from my last card. Fan keeps card cool. Nice look to it. Can play all my games on full settings

Cons: Size. I expeted it to be same size as my old 512 ATI HD 2600 XT. It was 1 1/2 in longer than the 2600 but im glad a have a case that has alot of room. My fault for not looking at the size specs. had to "shove" wires to the side.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card cause my 2600 was a 512 mb but the computer read it as a 1gb and higher end games were crashing at random points. It did its job a couple years ago but not any more

Pros: Fast, good for a lower end card. Overall pretty nice.

Cons: I had one problem with it. When I started playing World of Warcraft, for some reason it became really pixelated. So I tried the 64x driver for vista. So far so good.

Other Thoughts: If you don't have a lot of money this is the card to get.
