Rating + 5 Silent Workhorse

Pros: Quiet!!! Great Graphics! This does everything I need and then some. Note: I am not a heavy gamer.

Cons: Big card.

Other Thoughts: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS4 LGA 775 Intel P35 motherboard.
E8400 processor. Vista Ultimate 64 OS.

Rating + 5 Great Noiseless Card

Pros: Good, solid noiseless nVidia card with dual monitor support and solid drivers for Windows 7 x64 and Linux. Unless you're a hotshot gamer and maybe even then, this will serve you well, and maybe even then.

Cons: Can't really think of any, except that it takes up two slots.

Other Thoughts: Heatsink is fairly hot to the touch but thermocouple shows it's cool. But make sure you have a properly closed case, it depends on air being drawn in from the back by the case fans. And don't bother with Asus-supplied drivers, just download the latest driver from nVidia.

Rating + 5 Peace at last

Pros: Fast, high performance card that can handle almost any game or application with ease, but without the noise! Dual DVI or HDMI with special adapter. As fast as anything in this price bracket.

Cons: Bigger sized card, takes up two full ATX length slots. HDMI audio requires sound card with digital out - audio device not built in (Can be a good thing if you have a high end soundcard all ready).

Other Thoughts: The primary source of noise in my computer has been the Video Card for for years. Most of the fanless cards cards have been lower end cards that were a big step down and just won't cut it for the occasional game. This was a good solution that didn't break the bank, is very fast, supports hi resolutions, dual monitors, and even HDMI.

Pros: dead silent 9600 ! rock solid construction ! excellent performance for a passive cooled ge, looks and fits awesome on my gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p,no temp probs for me ! and at the current market price, un-beatable value !

PERFECT FIT TO MY D.A.W. / GAME BUILD 2009......

Cons: none ! this is the perfect silent graphic card solution, with impressive power! (for someone who knows exactly what they just purchased!)

Other Thoughts: for those of you considering this card, to avoid some of the well avoidable issues some other users may have with this unit, simply do a little simple homework. measure your cases capacity to insure this bad boy will fit your set-up efficiently, and just make sure you have descent air-flow, and you will be a happy customer !

Rating + 5 Best silent card available

Pros: -Great speeds, comparable to an 8800gts and only a little slower than the LOUD 9800gtx it replaced.
-GDDR3 memory.
-SILENT! That's the biggest reason for buying it.
-Keeps reasonably cool considering no fan.
-2xDVI (and S-Video), used to seeing DVI/VGA on silent cards
-No stuttering whatsoever in normal streaming video/movie/etc. tasks.

Cons: -Much warmer than cards with fans (duh!)
-Not a top-of-the-line card anymore, better ones available for this price, but all with loud fans.
-Large card in all dimensions, may not fit into your small case.

Other Thoughts: I love to game, mostly classic arcade and console games at 1920x1080, not quite so many newer games (most of what I play is from 2007 at the latest), so this card handles everything flawlessly and makes it look great. However, I DO listen to and record/edit a lot of music on my computer, so I needed something that didn't interfere with my audio.

I have a shuttle SP35PV2 system and this card fits in there with no problem. Even though the shuttle design keeps the processor ICE cold (Q6700 at 39C while under load, LOL!), it doesn't do an awesome job cooling the rest of the parts off. So even with that in mind, this card stays at 55C idle/67-70C under heavy load, which is still in a very acceptable range. I've never seen it go above 70C even with games absolutely cranked, so this card is in it for the long haul.

AND NO MORE NOISE!

Rating + 5 Warm but quiet.

Pros: Decent speed video card for most but serious gamer's. Fanless ... Silent. Huge heat sink, with multiple heat pipes. Dual DVI. HDMI adapter included. HDMI Audio / Sound Card audio adapter cable included. Nvidia's drivers actually work well in Vista 64 Bit.

Cons: Big card ... takes up two slots (unavoidable with this size heat sink / pipes). Definately NOT going to fit in a SFF (Small Form Factor) chassis. Included HDMI CEC audio adapter cable might not have the right pin outs for your audio device.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased several of these for silent PC builds, and they've all worked well. It would be nice if Asus would push this silent design up to some of their more recent chipsets.

Rating + 5 excellent video card

Pros: Keeps cool. 40 with no load and 55 with load. That's assuming your case is well ventilated and other fans are causing the air to flow. Worked out of the box.

Cons: Not an issue in my case, but it is big.

Other Thoughts: I was very sceptical that a high end graphics card could be passively cool. However, this one works just fine. You just need to make sure that there is some air flow over its gills. For example, if I open my case up, air no longer flows through the pci slots. It then runs about 10 degrees warmer.

Rating + 5 Yahoo - NO NOISE

Pros: SILENT - good specs for the price point. SLI dual card installation and works as supposed to. Have silent case fans that move air so temps stay within normal range.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: These cards are HUGE. Be certain that your MOBO is laid out so these cards don't block anything like SATA connectors, USB & Firewire MOBO headers, audio card, fan connectors and RAM. The case I used has a removable MOBO tray and I used a full ATX Asus MOBO - so it all fit with a little planning. Fortunately, the dual SLI configuration has a PCI slot in-between for air flow. I think it might get pretty hot if you used a 3-way SLI.

Rating + 5 The silent beast

Pros: Great card, powerful, runs cool and of course is silent. HDMI, HDCP.

Cons: Big. This thing is a beast, at least compared to the 7600gs and and 8500gt i had. Takes up two slots and is fairly lengthy as well, had to move a hard drive into another slot as it was in the way. It also almost touches my sata connectors, I was worried the card may get too hot and melt the sata cables. After getting the card to 55c (as hot as I could get it ) i checked the heat coming off the fins and found that it was just not warm enough to cause any problems.

Other Thoughts: The instructions for connecting your audio to HDMI via spdif are not very good, also the spdif cable that comes with the card has a 4 pin connector for the motherboard side and 2 pins for the card side. As mentioned, some other people have had problems with this as their motherboard connector is 2 pin, and like with my board there was no chance of connecting a 4 pin. The solution I used is to just swap the cable around. Use the 4 pin side for the graphics card side, it will fit (only 2 of the pins are being used anyway) and then use the 2 pin for your motherboard. Just be sure to check which wire is going to ground. I used the black wire as ground, connected that to the pin further away from the dvi connectors on the card and then connected the black wire to the pin labeled ground on my board. Check your board's manual to find out which one that is. Audio over HDMI works great.

Pros: Silence. Yes silence to my sensitive ears !!!!!!. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I hardcore internet. This card runs really cool on all of my applications. Average 52-53*C. Easy for the average person with a little knowledge of computers to install.

Cons: To soon . NONE.

Other Thoughts: I'm satified so far.

Rating + 5 So quiet..

Pros: - No noise
- Good temperatures (45-55 C), generally hovers at 52 C
- Cheap
- Fast
- Rated 5.9 in Vista for "Graphics" and "Gaming Graphics"

Cons: - Takes 2 PCI slots

Other Thoughts: I got this to replace a 9600 GSO, with a tiny fan that always ran at 100%. This card has no fan so it's completely silent, and the temperatures are exactly the same as my old card. It's also slightly faster than the GSO and now Vista rates everything on my computer as a 5.9 except the hard drive :)

Regarding my temperature section, my case has a 120 mm intake fan on the front, and a 120 on the back, but I think temperatures could be improved with better fans/placement (but it's 50 C, so why bother?).

Pros: Installs easily for first-time builder (me!). Performs well in Cinebench R10 benchmark test. Never got above 44C in testing (although I have a Noctua 120mm fan blowing toward it, set at 900RPM). Plenty of room in an Antec 182 case with a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard.

Cons: None so far.

Rating + 2 Beware Driver Install

Pros: Quiet card.

Cons: Had problems with the driver install. Everything I tried it gave me 4 bit color only. Possibly the install program was installing wrong OS. Currently running XP(32 bit). All downloads from Asus, Microsoft and Nvidia did the same thing.

Other Thoughts: I don't want to give it a 1 star due to the fact I don't know if it was a bad board or install glitch.

Rating + 5 Easy installation

Pros: Very quiet video card. It runs more than cool enough for my needs.

Cons: None that I can think of for now.

Other Thoughts: My old video card was rather noisy and since switching to this fanless less design I can't complain about anything. It runs cool enough in my computer. I have a couple of 80mm fans blowing in and they keep the card cool enough. The mobo temp went a couple of degrees to about 39-40 degrees or so. The CPU temp has stayed the same. This is on a Gigabyte GA-MA770 in a old Addtronics case with Ubuntu. I've been using the Ubuntu video driver updates and it runs great.

Rating + 3 Strange problems with Firaxis games

Pros: Silent, HDCP and HDMI. Good price.

Cons: Large, too slow for latest games at high resolutions. Weird problems with Firaxis 3D games.

Other Thoughts: Overall I like this card. Fanless is great, and the price/performance ratio is good.

However, performance in Mass Effect at 1920 x 1200 is not very good. Not unplayable, but choppy. I've also noticed "stuttering" in other games. Most noticeably in the Firaxis games Civilization IV and Sid Meier's Pirates. I think it's probably a driver issue, but in Civ IV scrolling around is choppy, which for that game isn't the end of the world. In pirates, the stuttering is so bad it makes the game unplayable, which is bizarre because this card should run circles around that game.

Overall I can't recommend it if you're a fan of Firaxis games, and/or like the latest and greatest games (Mass Effect, Crysis, Fear, etc.).

Rating + 1 Very Hot

Pros: Asus Claims that the Temperature of this video card remains cooler than 45 degrees celsius, in reality no. Ideally it is at 75 degrees celsius and while gaming it goes up to 90 degrees

Cons: i threw in a fan by myself to solve the problem, but again then what's the point of buying this fan while u still need a fan for a 9600gt, just get a 9600gt with a fan.

Rating + 5 Ahhh, silence...

Pros: Plays all I the games I need.
SILENT.

Currently running at 45 C !

Cons: Had to move some cables around to get everything to fit!

Other Thoughts: I'm not a high end gamer, but do play games, so I needed something that would play the latest games, but my primary concern was noise. The loudest fan in my system was my GPU fan. I have good ventilation and my current fans are almost silent. Replacing my 6600GT with this card made a huge difference.

Rating + 2 Don't buy it.

Pros: You can scramble eggs on the heatsink if your stove is broken!

Cons: Works IF you have a fan blowing on it. Why would I want a fan blowing on it if I'm buying a FANLESS unit? Don't buy it. For this price, get the MSI card (red). I RMA'd this sucker and went with MSI's and it rocks. You can also find similar models for 60 bucks or so after rebate, so think about that too. Just don't waste your time with this piecer. Artifacts appeared after about 20 minutes of use. Screw that.

Pros: As I said before great card for a silent system

Cons: Not the highest end gaming card but excellent for what it is..

Other Thoughts: In response to the guy who asked why I was touching the heat sink...

For people who are system builders we don't always get everything all put together before we we button it all up and call it good on a system build... sometimes we overclock to stress components to make sure they can handle the pressure... In doing so sometimes a jumper needs moved to reset the cmos... whatever the case we sometimes need acess to our computers innards and if not completely careful not to you will get burned by this heatsink... Even if you are careful you still might... so just giving a warning... not as stupid as it at first sounded I hope...

Rating + 5 Great idea

Pros: It is an NVIDIA 9600GT. It is not rocket science to figure out what you will be getting - just read a couple reviews. For the price it is a good addition to my silent Media Center.

Cons: It runs hot! These many reviewers can't be misstating a fact. ;) You need to have some level of air flow in your case. If your system is all passive cooled - I don't recommend putting this in. But don't be scared - even extremely quiet low CFM system fans will be enough to keep the card cool. My card is currently running cool in my silent media center.

Other Thoughts: I just re-build my silent mediaCenter including this card. The card is running cool and mediaCenter is still quiet. Here are the parts I am using:

* nMediaPC 2000B Case - extremely well air flow design
* 2 silent rear fans that came with nMediaPC Case
* 1 CoolerMaster silent fan to replace the side fan of the nMediaPC Case

My mediacenter PC is very silent and stays cool - even if I play the video games at their highest setting.

Rating + 1 Card is taller than a regular Expansion slot

Pros: Fanless, Purevideo HD, Decent 3D performance. Lower power consumption than 9800 GT cards.

Cons: What were the ASUS designers thinking? They made this card taller than a regular expansion slot.

I could not fit this into my HTPC case. It was not the length that was the problem (although the length was a tight fit). The problem is the height of the card. I wrongly assumed that this card would only be as tall as a full size expansion slot but that is not the case. The passive cooler has a heatpipe that rises about half an inch to an inch higher than the card itself. This is a big problem for people trying to put this into a HTPC case. I bought the Athenatech A3701BB and it is about 5.5 inches high (without the feet). This card is too tall for this case. I could not put the top back on after installing the card. Perhaps the card will fit in other HTPC cases that are taller than 6.5 inches but it will be a close fit. If ASUS designed this silent card for the HTPC market, why would they make it taller than a normal full size PCI Slot ?

Rating + 4 Great card for what it does

Pros: Silent. That's what you should be buying it for. If you are trying to get the best gaming card on the market, this is not it. However, it will run most of your games just fine. I use it solely for business and it perfectly does it's job for that. Who wants a video card fan whining in their ear 8hrs a day? Video card fans these days are out of control noise-wise. This card fixes that problem.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: OF COURSE IT RUNS HOT. IT IS SUPPOSED TO RUN HOT. THE HEAT SINK GETS VERY HOT AND WILL BURN YOUR FINGERS. WHY ARE YOU TOUCHING THE HEAT SINK ANYWAY? IF YOU ARE WORRIED THAT YOU ARE GOING TO FRY THIS CARD, BUY A VIDEO CARD WITH A FAN! IT'S POINTLESS TO BUY THIS CARD AND ADD AN EXTRA FAN!

Rating + 4 ASUS EN9600GT SILENT

Pros: I'm not a gamer, but use my pc for music and movies (with vista ultimate) so silence was my main concern. After returning noisy video card from Palit, someone recommended me this card, and it was a good choice.
I haven't notice any problems with this card yet.
Impressive look with radiator look alike heatsink
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L
Mushkin HP 6400 5-4-4-12
ASUS EN 9600GT Silent
Intel E8400 (stock speed @3Ghz)

Cons: Runs little warm, about 54C/125F idle. Good ventilation is a must with at least single rear fan set at LOW to push hot air out of the box.
Load at idle is 65W...make sure your P/S can handle the load.
Read below...

Other Thoughts: Built around G94 nVidia architecture and based on G92(8800GT) monster with less transistors. I have heard from the gaming experts about early architecture problems that were giving some people occasional black screen when playing intensive in graphics games with some 30% of the cards.
I believe this was mentioned by one reviewer already that he looses screen sometimes.

Rating + 3 Good while it worked

Pros: Great performance nothing beats a absolutely silent card with some power behind it. That is until it stops working. See cons

Cons: I use a Dual Monitor setup and this worked amazing for the first few weeks. Then out of nowhere my second monitor started getting major graphical glitches. Then it just stopped displaying all together. Swapped it out with my old Ati card and the 2nd screen came back to life. I ended up returning this one for a refund to put to a different card. This was my first Newegg return in 4 years of service and it was quick clean and painless. Gotta love the egg

Other Thoughts: If your only using one screen then this card should work just fine. When my second screen failed the main one continued to work flawlessly. This is a massive card thou so your gonna need some serious room to fit it in. It was almost touching one of my HDs and I'm using an Antec Midtower case.

Rating + 5 Great card

Pros: * Runs at 50C under load in my Lian Li S80 case.
* Did not raise the temperature of the other components.
* Plays COD4, COH, and TF2 at 1680x1050 at 60fps.

Cons: * Heavy, but what do you expect from a passively cooled graphics card?

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this card to anyone that wants to make their system more quiet. Of course, you should make sure your case has some spare room.

Rating + 5 Bought a 2nd card for SLI

Pros: Silent SLI. Great performance. Power requirements reasonable (both video cards, e8400 cpu, 790i mobo all running on an antec earthwatts 500W power supply). Ran Devil May Cry 4 with bells & whistles on 1080p resolution at 60fps constant.

Cons: Would require a system with good airflow. Smaller cases may have difficulty accommodating 2 large size cards. Loss of 2 pci/pcie slots. SLI drivers still somewhat buggy resulting in crashes. Still won't make games like Crysis run at 60fps.

Other Thoughts: Great mid-high range silent graphics solution.

Rating + 5 Silent but deadly!

Pros: Well let's see... it makes less noise than a cicada whispering... lol... Actually it's one awesome little card... it's a little more expensive than the lowest end 9600gt's but silence comes at a price... Trust me if you want a card you can use in studio music recording and frag during the breaks, this is it..

Cons: I can't comment on the other peripherals included with the card as I decided to save some money and buy a returned one ( not a knock against newegg, but don't trust the people who say you might get lucky and stll get everything you'll get from buying retail... it is my experience that this is not the case) Also... unless you like recieving your items at the latest possible delivery date use Fedex... UPS can be really slow... never had an issue with them other than that though....

Other Thoughts: Not everyone is recording music or trying to build a hdcp... keep that in my mind when buying this card... it more than makes up for being a slower version of the 9600gt by being silent; however, if you want a cool running gpu don't buy this one cause it gets hot!!!! The heatsink nearly gave me a 2nd degree burn after running 3dmark 06....

Rating + 5 Excellent for my uses

Pros: Runs Guild Wars on max resolution, max settings with an average of 70 FPS. Guild Wars is an MMORPG so with hundreds of people on at one time with all different sets of armor, that's some incredible speed.

According to "Can You Run It.com" I can run Crysis on farther than recommended settings. I've got a AMD Anthlon X2 6000 CPU, fyi.

No problems so far, no glitches, anything really.

This will not get outdated until a couple of years, and will not be unusable until a decade later.

Cons: None yet, not sure if I shoulda gotten the 8800..

Other Thoughts: With Rebate price is excellent

Rating + 4 Quiet but hot.

Pros: Well made big heat sink. Right way to do it, as far as I can tell.

Cons: It runs HOT. I always go for quiet over speed, so I had the Antec Truepower power supply controlling the fan. It's famous for preferring quiet over cool, so the card got over 72C. You really, really need a lot of case airflow to make this work; a quiet 120 mm 7-blade case exhaust fan running at 1500rpm has brought this down to a more reasonable 61C even under load.

Other Thoughts: It does take up two slots (the PCI-E 16 plus the one to the right looking from the back) so if you're getting a mobo at the same time, consider which slot you're losing. I lost a PCI-E-1. What are those good for anyway? BTW. before I ran the case fan speed up, I tried underclocking the GPU using ASUS's SmartDoctor. Didn't help a bit.

Rating + 5 I use this becuase I edit sound. (Silent and Fast)

Pros: There is no stoping this. The size of the card will tell you that it has alot of processors but not as much as it's bigger cards (200 series and 9800 series). I chose this card because it's the only silent one (using quitest fans from silverstone called "stryder") for the silverstone SF-05 case witch is the smallest case for this card. I edit sound and it's going to be the best setup (quite and powerfull). I play all of my games with full settings and native resolution. If I could recommend a game for frame rate that is always high no matter the card, it would be unreal tournament 3. The NVIDIA DirectX10 cards can be used as Physx hardware so be glad for that.

Cons: Makes me hungry, just thinking of all the things I can cook on it. It's realy realy hot. It's a good thing. Makes you think of all the MHz passing around the board.

Other Thoughts: None. Edit your sound! hehe.

Pros: This is a great card. At first I thought it was too big but it fits great on my case (Atec Solo).

Cons: Like many people say, it does get too hot to the touch, without even taxing the board. I am not overclocking nor am I running any games. As a matter of fact, I have it at 1024x768 resolution, but it gets hot. I will connected to the TV to watch HD movies and see what happens.

Rating + 5 great card

Pros: with one card I get same frame rate in Crysis (1680x1050 all on high = 16-24fps) as two EVGA 7950GT KO... and quiet! I did the upgrade because of the sound generated by sli (when not gaming I create music)..

Cons: it does get hot... I have a 120mm case fan right there anyways so its not an issue for me but this card needs ventilation. I had a 5hr gaming session after working on it and without the fans blowing on it, artifacts start to show and the game can get glitchie after a few hours... then I touched the heatpipes!!!(hot) and went and got a fan..

Other Thoughts: card is big over all, some of my SATA connections are a little tight right next to the card, but it totally fits. I have thought about getting another to sli but I think the heat generated is too much even with a 120 blowing on em. I would recommend this card.

Rating + 1 Blinky Card

Pros: - Quiet
- Runs Vanguard on max settings fine

Cons: Has issues - see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Card presents artifacts from cold boot and reset normally makes them go away. I could almost live with that, but the other problem is when its having its "issues", it starts to blink to black screen and back to desktop (or game) on and off. I have a 630w power supply so I am certain that is not the issue. Asus tech support is worthless. I submitted 2 requests to them and they keep coming back telling me to go through the vendor I bought it from. I figured its not a Newegg problem, why bother them with it? Anyway, being forced to go that route. I am RMA-ing this one with Newegg, and hope the replacement isn't garbage too.

Pros: Silent operation with great bang-for-your-buck performance. Built in HD hardware decoding (ballin). Upgraded from 7600GS 512 DDR2 and a world of a difference.

THE card for an individual seeking a silent solution for their HTPC or budget gaming box. I am very happy with the operation with my Antec Earthwatts 380watt PSU.

My system: Intel E6300@Stock, Asus P5B Deluxe w/ wifi mobo, 2 Gig Gskill DDR800, Asus Geforce 9600GT silent, 160 gig 7200 RPM WD HDD, 500 gig WD GP "green" HDD, Antec P182 Case, Antec EA380 Earthwatts PSU.

Cons: Rather large, blue card (not gold), no spinners ;)

Rating + 4 SPDIF cable troublesome

Pros: No fan, so its quiet and doesn't need periodic cleaning. Allows audio and video output via HDMI cable to your TV. Almost as fast as a 8800GT 512MB but cheaper.

Cons: If you piggyback audio/video on a HDMI cable for output to your TV, beware. The ASUS supplied SPDIF cable wasn't compatible with my ECS motherboard (until I rigged the cable:)

These cables are hard to find so be careful if you need to modify yours. A fully separated 2 pin connector on the source end would have been great. Download an ASUS motherboard manual and it will help you find out which pins you need to connect to on yours.

Other Thoughts: Like all gaming cards, this thing is BIG. It covers all of the SATA connectors on my Micro ATX motherboard and hogs 2 PCI slots.

Rating + 5 Silent Soultion - Finally

Pros: Silent, Cool, Fast, Works with Dell XPS 410, Great for Vista Aero. PCI-E 2.0 card works fine in PCI-E 1.0 Slot.

Cons: None. Some have mentioned 6-pin as an issue, but the card comes with ATX<-->6-Pin conversion cable for power, which I didn't need. Some have mentioned size/weight: It fits fine in a relatively small Dell XPS 410 Case, and your PCI-E slot should have a retainer clip on the backside of the slot, and something should secure the card at the top - weight should no be a real issue at all.

Other Thoughts: I've waited 18 months to purchase a new PCI-E Card for my XPS 410, and suffered along with a 7300LE. The reasons for waiting were two-fold: 1) Sound, 2) Power Requirement. XPS 410 has a 375 Watt PS, but as it turns out, the 9600XT is perfectly fine inside. I just couldn't be happier with the card, and my pruchase. Nice work Asus.

Rating + 4 Very efficient GPU for the performance.

Pros: Quiet low Wattage draw for the performance. It's 27-61 watts. (just google without quotes "atomicpc The Truth About Graphics Power Requirements V2"). Easy install. Handles most games just fine. Performance is fine, lots of reviews out there. Rebates!!

Cons: Runs a little hot: 40'-45' celcius in my antec p150 (fans on low). Had to bend the card away from the heatsink to plug in the power (some people have cut off the clippy thing on the PSU). Pricey.

Other Thoughts: Did a lot of research to get an efficient System. If you want to play modern games, this is the card. This GPU is quite low compared with the higher end GPUs (AMDs are much higher on average). Requires a PCIe plug from the PSU.

Rating + 4 Runs quiet, but hot

Pros: Good card for the money (vs. 8800 GT series), completely silent. Excellent performance.

Cons: Runs somewhat high. I upgraded from XFX 8600 GT Silent (passive cooling as well), and while in the same case XFX would not overheat, Asus card does. AFter about 4 hours of regular desktop use some icons in Windows turn black, second sreen produces artifacts... Cooling the card with an extra fan solves that, but what's the point of passive cooling than?

Other Thoughts: As several other folks mentioned, I wish Asus would just drop the price by $20 rather than doing that through rebate.

Pros: Completely silent, Total power consumption at idle actually went down from 91 watts to 86 watts. Maximum Windows Experience Index score. No installation problems whatsoever in Vista SP1.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I had no problem whatsoever fitting this card into my Antec Sonata III case. This card replaced a Gigabyte 7900 GT, the model with the big Zalman fan, and I am completely satisfied. I do not play games, nor do I overclock. I selected this card based on its fanless design to reduce noise. Rating + 4 Pretty good bang for your buck

Pros: Very cheap and affordable for a budget gaming system. It will run just about anything except Age of Conan and Crysis in high res in max settings with a solid framerate

Good looking card as well. So far so good.

Cons: Makesure you have a beastly power supply for this card. I only had a 430watt thermaltake and the card sucked all the juice out of it and fried all my pci slots on my motherboard and the card itself. I had to RMA and get a replacement not to mention a new motherboard.

Works fine with a 660 watt ps right now.

The other con is this card does not perform as well as I was told it would. I only get 20fps on Age of Conan with max settings. I switched to medium and I get anywhere from 45 to 75. Kind of a let down

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.

Rating + 5 Amazingly great

Pros: Silent as an oldtime church. Remains within temp tolerances with 5+ solid hours of COD4 in a well ventilated, air-cooled Antec P180 case. Low power draw even under heavy loads. Expected a difference vs. XFX 7600 Silent but this is a HUGE improvement. Blu Ray playback on 42" plasma HDMI switched signal was 4 out of 5 stars. Having challenge with digital signal transfer but am convinced is due to my inexperience in this area. Will submit again once I read up and do some experimentation. Would absolutely buy again. Missed rebate by 2 days; is getting to be a trend with Newegg purchases. Am hunting for a fan kit to cool directly.

Cons: ASUS should offer an optional low rpm fan attachment. This is by far the best HTPC card available and noise would be minimal. Price drop and rebate immediately following purchase.

Other Thoughts: Am surprised that more VGA mfgs. are not focusing efforts on HTPC card with better than good gaming capabilities. It is obviously a huge growth market and there are very few choices and most of those are inadequate as for multiple apps. Either that or a dual card arrangement that could be accessed for gaming. Wish that I possessed that type of skill and knowledge. Is easy to identify markets which is why I am surprised that this one is being missed/almost ignored.

Rating + 5 Great for HTPC

Pros: Silent card with HDCP and HD hardware decode acceleration for BluRay and HDDVD. Good performance for occasional gaming. The price is excellent after the rebate.

Cons: Wish ASUS would just knock $20 off the price so people can avoid the extra work and wait associated with the mail-in rebate.

Other Thoughts: Except for complete hardware VC1 decode, the 9600gt has everything a HTPC needs. ASUS smartly chose to provide a silent version to meet the needs of HTPC owners. The card replaced a silent 8600GTS. The gaming performance nearly doubled and most video applications are more responsive.

Pros: Great card, runs almost everything I throw at it, have yet to get Crysis. It's extremely fast and it is quiet... But..

Cons: ...it runs HOT. I installed a PCI fan below it so that it would suck the hot air out the heatsink. Also, 64 stream processors... Can fail you when you get into really high stuff like Crysis

Other Thoughts: It is a great card, don't get me wrong, just spend an extra $10 to get a good PCI fan, it will run at 40C under load if you do. Box was kinda big, ASUS needs to save some more trees. Thank you Newegg for the fast shipping... I just wish you weren't so good at packing, maybe then I would get a few extra parts.

Rating + 3 beautiful card, but..

Pros: This thing just looks beautiful; put it into a budget build for a relative, and it made my 8800GTS cards look like junk. Physical looks, that is. Black heatsink/fins and chrome heatpipes. Silence is golden... (there's a "but" in here somewhere..) I benched it in the same rig using one of my 8800GTS cards and this card - I was pretty impressed with the results. Scores @ 1280x1024 were consistenly only 400-500 3dMarks below the 8800GTS. For almost $100 less (once rebate comes in).

Cons: But... Card runs really hot under loads. The fanless design on the card means now you have to get a case fan right on top of it; most side case fans are situated over the PCIe slot, so this helps tremendously. While benching, I had the covers open (no air circulation) and this thing could fry an egg...

Other Thoughts: Logisys Area51 silver case w/480 watt PSU, AMD 5400+ AM2 @ 2.8, ASRock AliveNF6G, 2GB Crucial Ballistix, Maxtor 250GB, ASUS EN9600GT, DVDR/W, mouse/kb, 22" open box Chimei LCD. Seven hundred, even. Great deal.

Pros: Makes no noise.

Cons: Runs awfully close to the border of safe use. I expected that, but I'm somewhat worried about the long-term prospects of this card running reliably. It idles hot, and while running games, gets very hot.

Uses 2 slot spaces, and needs more room for that hot air to move.

I would not put this in a cramped case, a case with poor cooling, or let loose wires touch the heatsink. If you have a case with a fan blowing over the expansion slots, the card would probably not be much to worry about, but most cases do not have that capability.

ASUS software utilities are clunky and buggy.

Other Thoughts: A tad pricey for stock performance.

Rating + 5 Silent and fast

Pros: Like the title says, this card is silent and fast. I'm upgrading from 2 7600GT cards in SLI. Able to play Portal now at 1920x1080 with everything cranked up. I would have to say the best thing though is now the loudest thing in my case is back to the CPU fan.

Cons: Nvidia installers allow you to install XP 64 drives in Vista 64. Totally my fault for just clicking on the wrong item in the drop down. It would still be nice for someone to do a check. Knowing InstallShield, it isn't hard.

Other Thoughts: Like someone else said, the box is large. It is about 5x bigger than the card. Totally unnecessary and I ended up with a shipping box that could hold two Shuttle boxes with room to spare. If you are buying a 9600GT card, spend the extra $10-20 for total silence.

Pros: This is one solid card. If you are a budget gamer looking for performance as well as a silent computer, this is your card.

Cons: It is a beast, but fits perfectly in my setup. It literally covers the entire width of the motherboard. You may want to check your motherboard specs to make sure it doesn't cover up any connectors (SATA/IDE etc.).

Other Thoughts: Absolutely perfect for my setup. Card idles around 45 C and only gets up to about 58 C while gaming for a considerable amount of time. If you get it, make sure to tighten the screws on the top of the card as mine were loose.

Pros: 100% Silent! I really enjoy the silence after MSI GF8600GTS OC. I don't do much gaming but "Hellgate London" runs great on my Q6600 4Gb PC in Dx10 mode with most settings set to high on maxed resolution under 32bit Vista Business. I like how this video look also. Overall performance is way better then old my 8600Gts.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded also my computer case to Cooler Master Elite 330. Original case fan was replaced by 2x 120mm Cooler Master quiet fans. My old ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU cooler and Thermaltake TR2 430W power supply (dual fan) are quiet as well. This system has good airflow thanks to mesh-like front panel of the case and multiple fans and makes no noise at all. I wish my Dell laptop will be that quiet.

Rating + 5 Great silent option

Pros: Great card. I have two 250mm side fans so these run extremely cool, at around 38°C under load. Solid performance for the price. Running 2 in SLI with good results. HDMI connections will be nice for use with HTPC.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Since I am waiting for the 9900 in July. I decided to get two of these and run in SLI. They work pretty well and I plan to use one in a HTPC sometime this year. Heatsink seems to work pretty well. If you have adequate cooling in your system this card is great runs much cooler than my old 8800GTS 640mb, which ran around 55°C under load.

Rating + 5 using for htpc

Pros: i love this card. great performance, with the lovely sound of silence perferct for htpc cases. be careful as the this is a rather large card for some micro htpc cases out there. i have it in a full size atx case (thermaltake dh101) and it fits perfectly. ventilation in my case is next to 0 as i want it as quiet as possible, but this card still performs well. like the included hdmi adapter, very nice touch

Cons: kind of big. that is to be expected

Rating + 5 Good Value

Pros: I’m not sure if you can apply the term sexy to a graphic cards heat sink, but this one comes pretty darmn close. Surprisingly it’s not all looks, as the heat sink seems to hand in a solid performance that is impressive enough, given the fact that it is passive. The passive heat sink on this card is what got my attention; I needed something with performance but quite enough to not drown out my TV. I’ve been able to run this card playing HL2/Episode 1 + 2 as well as FarCry, completely maxed out with res set at 1680 X 1050 on a HP w2207h monitor with out any hitches or lag in the game play.

The card comes with an easy to use OC utility that allows you to set the GPU, RAM and Shader clock. However giving how hot this card runs the logic or wisdom of pushing it even further is a bit fuzzy to me, I’m seeing temps of 75C on average with this card in HL2 with all the eye candy. But the from the forms I’ve been reading 75C isn’t significantly higher then the With that said I would recom

Cons: Not really a con but, this card is HUGE, I have it in a Dell XPS410 and it almost doesn’t fit so be sure your case can handle it. Runs a bit hot for my tastes, but then all cards on the market run nuts hot.

Other Thoughts: Not the fastest card out there, but honestly what the hell do you expect for $155. It is about 8% slower then the 8800GT but when you figure in the cost per performance ratio they are dead even so that makes it a great buy to me. Last thought make sure your case has adequate ventilation; Nvidia says the GPU is good to 100C, but still 75C is pushing it to me.

Pros: As good as 8800GT 512, less 50 $$. This card looks NICE. It does get a bit hot, but nowhere near what an 8800GTS 320 (g80) will do, but most cases have a side fan positioned over the card and the silent heatsink/pipes dissipate heat superbly.

Cons: it's not $50 less??

Other Thoughts: I bought this as part of a budget build for a relative. It benches a few hundred 3dmarks below my 8800GTS 512 (g92) at both 3DMark06 and 3DMark05. Granted, his processor is newer than my 2-year-old system and runs at 300Mhz faster (non-overclocked, vs my overclocked X2). But WOW for a budget build (under $700 system includes 22" LCD). WOW.
