Rating + 5 Great CARD

Pros: Runs every game 1920x1200 everything maxed! I get above 60fps on every game except Crysis and Warhead I get average of 30 fps !

Cons: loud fan! gets hot, I replaced the heat sync! now the card never gets above 60 deg cent underload!
CROSSFIRE WILL MAKE YOUR PC AN OVEN! 2 of these get very hot!

Other Thoughts: Crossfire is a total waste of time when you get into highend cards! I bought 3 of these for 2 pc,s ! After testing crossfire I got less then an 10% increase in FPS! total waste of money! So I,m gonna use the third in a SPEC machine to sell! NEVER BELIEVE SPEC,S read reviews on preformance! WHO CARES IF YOU GET 40000 point,s! that tells nothin! Lets hear about how the card preform,s

Rating + 5 Just got my 2nd one for XFire

Pros: Added this in Crossfire with same ASUS HD4870 and they run very good in thier stock OC'd setting over 14.000 in 3DMarkVantage points and 20,000 in 3DMark06 points running cool and Quiet.I was worried about heat but Case is ventilated Great. Inexpensive if I get my Mail in Rebate. Newegg is the Best

Cons: Surprised by the bad reviews. No problems with these Cards. And I'm still upset with ASUS about refusing to send me a 2-way SLI Bridge for SLI motherboard I purchased. ASUS Customer Care doesn't care much but couldn't pass up Newegg Price with Mail in Rebate.

Other Thoughts: Phenom II 940BE Overclocked to 3.6GHz, Foxconn A79A-S motherboard, 2 ASUS EAH4870 DK in Crossfire,4GB G.Skill Memory 1066MHz, I still need a 2-way SLI Bridge for ASUS board and a longer XFire Bridge for this board to use the better PCIE2.0 x16 slots.

Rating + 2 ATI failed me once again...

Pros: When it runs, it runs awesome! Can run most everything on max settings, 1900x1250. Works 75% of the time.

Cons: Randomly dies. I'll be playing a game, screen goes black and 3 little red lights appear ontop of the video card. It has done this off and on since I got it. Two times last night. Once not touching the computer and listening to music for 1.5 hours and again while playing Empire Total War (thank goodness for autosave), which sparked me writing this review to warn you guys to not get it.

Other Thoughts: Buy NVIDIA. I've had bad luck with EVERY ATI card I buy. Something is always wrong with the card itself, or a game doesn't work right. Some graphical clitch or crash that NVDIA's don't have.

No I am not a fanboy, which is why I keep trying ATI (it's like my 4th ATI card), I keep giving them a chance but I'm all out of chances. I'll NEVER buy ATI ever again. I'm done.

Rating + 3 Good for a couple months

Pros: To be perfectly honest, this video card was pretty good considering the price it was for, however its reliability is another thing.

Cons: After about 4 months of ownership, I started to notice that the video card would constantly cause a no signal in a middle of game play. When I looked at the card, I notice that two red lights would turn on. I looked around several forums and realized that this was a very common problem and most people would have to contact the manufacturer to get a replacement. If you want to save yourself the trouble of having to constantly restart your computer or returning the defective item, I would suggest just going with a Nvidia

Other Thoughts: Should of went with my gut instinct and went with Nvidia

Rating + 1 Artifacts 3 months in

Pros: The card worked great for a couple of months.

Cons: "Just a few days ago the card started having problems and artifacts (in the form of red and green pixels) would randomly popup on images and graphics. It was limited to images for the first few days then spread to the entire GUI. The problem only got worse and eventually the whole screen was covered with these artifacts." The same thing happened to my card. switched back to my old 8800 gts and everything is fine.

Other Thoughts: Have yet to contact asus about a replacement hopefully that will rectify the situation. The card was great while it lasted, hopefully the next one will be longer than 3 months.

Rating + 5 Dude... Awesome.

Pros: No, it is not the biggest baddest kid on the block. But when it comes to bang for your buck, this puppy is top dog.

Runs at a steady 51 degrees C, and has never gone above 75 degrees C. Free tool from Asus to monitor the temperature comes on the CD.

Very slick packaging! Heatpipes are big and scary and killer.

My roomate has one of those fancy nVidia-chipset GTX280 cards that he paid about $150 more for, and we run our games with the same settings. Win.

Cons: It came with Alone in the Dark. That game was not worth installing. Can haz COD4?

Rating + 5

Pros: Good cooler, quiet at idle, amazing price, 4870 and therefore a pretty fast and capable board overall.

Cons: Cooler. I'm not sure if this is a common thing, but the MemIO temps (Which are on the GPU) were very high. So high they caused crashing. A simple reapply of thermal paste fixed this, so it may have just been my board, but it was a problem at first. Cooler also reaches its limits pretty quickly, if you overclock much more, you'll have temperature problems. Also, keep in mind that the voltage cannot be increased on this card with software, it doesn't have the same VRMs other cards do.

Other Thoughts: Overall though, very nice card for the price.

Rating + 5 Great Purchase

Pros: Can't beat the performance/price ratio. Excellent card for anyone who want to run games nicely, but isn't obsessed with needing everything maxed out in the newest games. I actually find my CPU (AMD Athlon X2 4600) being the bottle-neck on new games such as GTAIV. It looks cool too :)

Cons: Can be surprisingly noisy when the computer is idle, but playing games I don't even notice it (just turn up the volume, lol). I'm sure I could tweak the fan settings to help with this though.

Other Thoughts: Runs great in Windows 7 x64, and Vista x64 that I previously had installed. I've had zero issues with the games I've tested: GTAIV, Unreal Tournament 3, Battlefield 2, Demigod.

Some people complain about the card's size, but I had no troubles at all fitting it into my QPACK case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144160)

I have an quiet, variable-speed exhaust fan right next to the card which probably helps with the heating issues that others have been commenting on. I haven't tried running anything without that fan on (which was there before I got this card).

Rating + 5 ASUS at its BEST AGAIN

Pros: Easy installation, put CRYSYS on HIGH and not one hiccup. Super easy overclocking options through smart doctor included. Worth the price and you can add a second one with crossfire and go to ULTRA settings on CRYSYS.

Cons: The only thing I found that can be considered that is the size of the card. Man its like trying to fit a shoebox in your computer case (lol) other than that its awesome

Other Thoughts: I have been getting ASUS products for as long as I can remember. They just dont break (for me anyways) I still have my old ASUS MOBO from 8 years ago running like the first day I bought it. It may cost a little more than others but its worth it.

Rating + 5 remmber crossfire

Pros: 1920x1200 everything on high! crysis and warhead run 30 to 50 fps all other games, Xmen origins, CODWOW,codmw, mirror,s edge , Wanted,You name it! I have most all new games! run above 60 fps!

I,m Musician I mostly play shooters !

Cons: power hog! the loudest thing in my pc ! they get hot, idle is 52 deg cel! well above 70 underload!

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these a few months back My brother came over just as I got them! He asked me to sell him one he was running 2 3870 crossfire! I bought a third OPEN BOX for 135$ to test crossfire! YAWN! less then 10% improvement on any game!

Crossfire is a total waste of money when you get in to HIGHEND video cards wow I got 39 to 59 FPS in crossfire! YAWN not worth the FAN NOISE AND ALL THE HEAT CREATED not to mentiion all the power these suck down! I think the light,s in my house dimmed when the game started!

JUST AWESOME CARD! I upgraded from 3870 "top" NOT A BIG UPGRADE!

HATE REBATES? buy "OPEN BOX" same price 135$

you can allso change the heatsync out with an ARCTIC cooler v2 to get lower temps and a near silent pc!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186016

just strap a case fan on the radiator in silent mode! you will never know your pc is on!

Pros: Fast! RUns COol!

Cons: CRASHES in wow with XP x86 system.
I spent probably a little over a week, underclocking, installing drivers to the most up to date version to all previous versions, maxing out fan speed, and even updating motherboard drivers. Still crashes with an XP machine.

Other Thoughts: I upgraded to Vista x86 with all the latest drivers from AMD (not asus) and no problems yet.....

Rating + 5 Great Card

Pros: This card is a great card for gaming. I can play crysis on high. this card can really handle anything you can think of throwing at it and more. the cooler was pretty neat looking.
has crossfire

Cons: the only con i really have is that the windows 7 drivers dont work for it well at least it didnt for me on win7 64bit but they will fix it so thats why its not really a con.

Other Thoughts: if you have money and want a really good card go with this one. there is only one thing to look out for make sure your case is big enough because with such a big card it gets alittle cramped

Rating + 2 $199.99, 2 months and already having problems?!

Pros: This card worked fantastically while it was working. Games would run very smoothly at full screen and watching HD content was nice and smooth.

Cons: Just a few days ago the card started having problems and artifacts (in the form of red and green pixels) would randomly popup on images and graphics. It was limited to images for the first few days then spread to the entire GUI. The problem only got worse and eventually the whole screen was covered with these artifacts. I was hoping it wasn't the card, but after removing it and installing a new NVIDIA 9800 GTX I quickly found out the card was busted.

Other Thoughts: This is my first ASUS buy, maybe it was a rare case, maybe not. I'll give this card 2 eggs for now, until it comes back from ASUS in good working order and stays that way.

Rating + 4 Strange click when switching

Pros: Obviously powerful piece of technology.
Comes with a pleather mousepad - the nicest I've ever owned.
Looks cool.

Cons: When going fullscreen in games, very loud "click" is heard as screen goes black. Is this harmful? Who knows. Could also have to do with my native resolution being 1680x1050 - not as typical.
Does not show the right colors for ATI's "Crowd Demo", when using the setting of "Individual ID's" - it shows patches.

Other Thoughts: I saw a bunch of pixels flashing green, and some red. I thought the card was going bad... just like the video review seen here titled "no bueno", but not as bad. I thought it was the card. In reality, it was a LOOSE DVI CABLE. So, fixed that problem right quick.

Rating + 5 I was amazed by the Quality of Card

Pros: This card is Good looking, Great performance, FAST delivery. Asus has best Vender software. Great Newegg Deal. Noticably better than my1GB Gigabyte HD4870. Best 3Dmark06 scores. First HD4870 to do better than my two HD 3870 in Xfire. HSF on this card is SO good looking and works great. Not that plastic junk.

Cons: Wish I new it was made this good I'de have ordered 2. Can't imagine what two of these run in XFire will do. Thought I might have gotten an HD4890 by accident. Price NOW is too high to order another. Going to keep an eye open for another GREAT Newegg Deal running on this card.

Other Thoughts: THE BEST HD4870 I've Seen!!!!!!!!!!

Rating + 3 Do not buy for WoW

Pros: Very nice packaging and the card/heatsink feels solid. Blows through the Crysis Demo and 3dmark 06 at the default 815 clock speed and fan speed without any problems or artifacts. Comes packaged with the adapters, crossfire bridge, mouse pad. I wouldn't use the mouse pad for the mouse but might make a good wrist cushion.

Cons: I mostly play World of Warcraft. The card works in most areas at the default 815 clock. Fly to Zangarmarsh and the game crashes or step into Dalaran and instant VPU recover loop. Powering off the entire computer is the only way to recover. Setting the fan speed to 100% and dropping the core clock to 775 seems to make WoW problems go away. This is coming from a MSI 8800GT OEM overclocked with a heatpipe system which has been rock solid for over a year. This seems to be par for the course for me on Asus products. A side note the ATI's CCC reports 1GB ram for this card that is 512MB. The rest is NOT an Asus problem. ATI drivers are a hassle. First thing after loading 9.4 was black screen coming into Windows XP. The drivers got borked and the CCC started giving the MOM.implementation error which I couldn't get rid of except doing a system restore. Never had problems like this back in the 9800 days or with NV drivers.

Other Thoughts: I have a 700 watt PC Power & Cooling PSU with a Cooler Master CM Stacker case with 4 120mm side cooling fans pushing fresh air onto the CPU/video card/motherboard area. Heat build up is not a problem.

Next time I will spend time reading reviews better since a lot of people playing WoW have problems with this card.

It is more like 3 1/2 eggs.

I have worked in the IT field for over 15 years and have taught Computer Operations classes for over 4 years. Computer gamer since the C64 (Commodore 64) days in the early 80's.

Rating + 3 Crashes in WOW - OK after UNDERCLOCK

Pros: The card performs pretty well with games like COD, and Left 4 Dead. Easy to install. Very Quiet, even during long hours of play.

The performance of this card is definitely great for the price. The price 135AR, was definitely great for this card.

Cons: World of Warcraft crashes often with this card. I tried all drivers, the newer ones crashes a lot more than older drivers like 8.2. After I under clock the card to stock 4870 Spec (750MHZ), the game seems to be performing normally. No crashes yet .....

Asus does not have the latest drivers on their website.
Firmware upgrade could not happen due to the software not being able to detect the card.

Other Thoughts: I would enjoy the 15% more performance if it worked correctly in WOW but a stable system is more important that performance.

Rating + 5 Insane!

Pros: Noticeable increase in framerates over my OC'd 8800GT. Runs reasonably cool in my Antec P182 and fit with a decent amount of room to spare. Price of course was a big plus. I didn't get it at it's cheapest, but when purchased with a X3 720 I got 35 off of 195 plus the 30 MIR put it down to about 130!! Amazing card for that price considering I paid 200 after rebate for the 8800GT about a year ago.

Cons: Noticed a few artifacts occasionally when gaming after a cold boot. But goes away after restarting the game.

Other Thoughts: Fan noise hasn't been too much of an issue as I've usually got the speakers turned up and in a game when it's ramping up.
Terrible buy at any price over 200. Hope to see this go down in price again and maybe pick up another along with a 24-26 inch mon. to get some insane quality high res gaming going on!
Oh, did I mention that I'm loving my Dragon platform!!
-MSI K9A2 Plat., X3 720 @3.2, AC Freezer64 Pro, 8GB OCZ Titanium pc26400, Corsair 550VX PSU, Antec P182, WD black 640GB HD and of course the ASUS DK TOP 4870 512MB

Rating + 1 Terrible Driver / Drivers Support

Pros: Was Price, not anymore, cards looked cool, already overclocked a bit

Cons: BSOD - infinite loop
This occurs when I use 2 of them in CrossfireX.
3dmark06 does give a good score, but that means nothing if I bsod when playing TF2, <<<----- this is a game that essentially needs barely any GFX power, and it BSOD.

Also BSOD in Stalker Clear Sky. Crysis cannot be run under max settings.

All this should be doable with 2x this card in cross fire x.

Drivers SUCK. tried installing many different drivers and they all fail. catalyst 9.3 , 8.12 all fail.

Called ATI Support many times and got annoyed, I can't tell if one card is faulty or if they just don't work under crossfirex.

Never buy ASUS gfx cards, terrible drivers... sigh

Other Thoughts: I was told that if I turn off Catalyst AI then it'll work. Sure, it does, except that essentially means I'm only using 1 card.

Rating + 5 Awesome card, great value

Pros: I have not run objective comparisons, but I can run every game I own (Demigod, Fallout3, Dawn of War 2, UT3, among others) with settings completely maxed out with no noticeable lag. The installation was flawlessusing an nVidia uninstall, power down, card swap, boot-up, ATI driver install, reboot procedure. BOOSH!

I also LOVE the audio over DVI (with included HDMI adapter). I look forward to building a good home-audio system around the computer once Blu-Ray drives drop in price.

Cons: Nothing major. Catalyst control center is a bit clumsy, but it does not inhibit core functionality (pretty and fast gfx and sound)

Other Thoughts: The card is a bit louder than my previous 7900GS. I don't put this as a con knowing how subjective noise levels can be. I also run a passive, tower CPU-cooler and have full passive motherboard chipset cooling so my overall system noise is lower as a result.

Rating + 5 Great Card

Pros: The Card Runs Great!!!!!! i couldnt ask for a better card my graphics have gone way up in the 3D textures on my gaming. The DVD Video has cleared up from my earlier base line card that i had and plays great with no lag or blurriness.

Cons: the cons were right on another review that i read on this card. Asus did pack alot of thermal compound on this card. I took the other persons advise and removed and added some zalman's thermal grease and my temps. are 39c - 45c. Though one review said he used the card fine with a 500watt psu the card requires a 550watt recommendation.

Other Thoughts: I recommend this card to anyone who is looking to improve there gaming and movie display. You will be greatly satisfied with the easy installation of the card as well as the ATI Catalyst drivers.Best to download from ASUS rather than using the privided ones that come with the card.

Rating + 4 Great Card, SFF Beware

Pros: Very fast, much faster than my previous 8800GT which was allready a workhorse. Small enough to fit into an X-Qpack. Ran great on a basic 500 Watt PSU with only 1 6pin PCIE connector. Fairly quiet, and of course the performance. For my 19" and 21" monitor gaming was smooth with the 512 MB of DDR5 on the card. Very overclockable, and the utilities where a breeze. I Would recommended this card to anyone looking for the best upgrade available at a reasonable price. Who can beat that $135!! I can only imagine two or THREE in crossfire...

Cons: Card has major overheating issues in my small case. My case is loaded with many high-performance parts and while this may add to the problem, I have great cable management and airflow. Wasn't this card supposed to be the TOP?? Well, as far as I am concerned it is too hot to use with Crysis unless I have the case opened up and I am going to drill a 80MM fan into my clear side panel just so I can keep this puppy. ASUS should refund me that cost since this card should be able to cool itsself. The heating issue brought it down an entire egg but if you have the recommended case size this shouldn't be a problem. Be aware the card will cover a few SATA ports if you own a board where they are at the end of the PCI-E slot and are on a mATX board.

Other Thoughts: Overclocked to 860MHz just for that little extra, also check out my specs.

Intel E4600 @ 2.8 GHz
4 Gigs Generic DDR2 ram @ 725 MHz
300 GIG Maxtor Maxblast HD (SATA)
500 Watt Apevia Java PSU
ASUS TOP 4870 @ 860 MHz
Vista 32 bit Home Premium

Works great! No driver issues, except BSOD's due to overheating...

Rating + 5 Works like a charm!

Pros: Bought this to be a master in a Crossfire setup with a standard 4870. It rocks!

Cons: Word of caution, like most manufacturers, they put too much thermal paste on under the modified fan. Just remove the fan, clean off what's there and apply some Arctic Silver 5 (very small amount), and it cools like a refrigerator. Both my GPUs are running 39 degrees C at idle and 45 degrees under load.

Other Thoughts: Going to overclock it as soon as I am sure it's stable

Rating + 1 Hypermemory?

Pros: ATi 4870 series.

Cons: Monitoring programs report 1024mb Hypermemory use. This is a top of the line card, and wants to use my system ram as EXTRA frame buffer? NOT ACCEPTABLE. My 3850 512mb card would get better minimum frames than this card. Could be a defective BIOS.

Other Thoughts: ASUS tech support offered little help. Refund process through Newegg has already been approved. I'll buy ASUS motherboards, but if their video cards are like this, and their tech support won't offer any assistance.... I can't buy their graphics cards. Sorry.

Pros: Improved cooler, comes factory overclocked.

Cons: Doesn't run at rated speed. artifacts at any speed over 800MHZ for gpu. I'm wondering about further deteriation over time. RMA for another one and try again.

Other Thoughts: It really doesn't make a huge difference (15MHZ) but if there's no headroom now where will I be in six months or a year. Also I paid for the overclockablity of this card verus luck of the draw on another card.

Rating + 5 Great Deal

Pros: Plugged the card in and took over in place of my on board 3300, rebooted and my WEI went from 4.2 to 5.9 somethings. This seems to be a verrrry good deal in what seems to be a price range of its' own among 4870s. Vista 32, AMD 7750 and Biostar GX790 A2+ 129M. I like my new mousepad too (cool+ rating).

Cons: Delivery was a day late due to the delivery service. Can't blame that on Newegg. Have no complaints with the Video Card or Newegg.

Pros: - card performs great, i noticed an improvement over my crossfired 4850's in some games
- fansink keeps the card prettly cool, idles at ~45C and load at ~60C at 30% fan speed
- nice packaging and bountiful assortment of accessories

Cons: - fan is load past 30%, i mean really loud. use overdrive or asus smart doctor to manually adjust fan speed.
- leather mouse pad?

Other Thoughts: - planning to get another for crossfire because of the great price
- pick mine up on cl for the same price after rebate
- use ocz freeze or arctic cooling thermal pastes for better temps.

Pros: Fast, works great in my older system (A64 3800+ X2 on an Asus A8N SLI) even thou it only has PCI Express 1.0a.

Good price, was only $20-$30 more than a 4850 and even though I might be CPU limited on most games, gives me an option for upgrades in the future without having to upgrade the GFX card again.

Mine doesn't seem to be terribly loud even under load, my PSU fan is louder than it but still not louder than say my XBox 360 (nor can I really hear it over a pair of earphones).

Cons: Had to reformat my computer to get everything to work right (or it was just an XP issue, everything works perfectly in Vista).

Other Thoughts: 45C w/out load and 55C under load (75% Fan Speed). Everything's controllable via ATI's CCC or ASUS's SmartDoctor program. Haven't tried to OC it but it already comes pre-overlocked (815 Mhz GPU, 925 Mhz Ram vs 800 Mhz GPU, 900 Mhz Ram) and I'm not sure overclocking more will help my gaming all that much more with my current CPU.

Rating + 5 great card

Pros: super fast, every game works better! COD WAW, Crysis I,m getting better frame rates now from this over my 2 , asus 3870 top crossfired!!

Cons: These cards use 2, 6 pin power cables, Basicly a SLI or crossfire ready power supply! They GET HOT! but have not shut down any game! I had to add a fan onmy old 3870,s when I tested crossfire to keep them from overheating!

VERY LOUD FAN! almost sounds like blow dryer! I added a 2nd fan in silent mode to keep the main fan on this card from hitting 5th gear and sounding like a vacume cleaner!

Not a major upgrade from my asus 3870 top I get about 10 frame per / more In Crysis! about 30 fp/s more in COD 5, it drops to about 30 fp/s using the flame througher! GREAT CARD!

Other Thoughts: I got this for 165$ on sale with 30$ rebate I couldn,t pass that price up! 135$ AMAZING then over this weekend I found them in open box for 135$ I ordered another to test Crossfire! I had ASUS 3870, before this Crossfire was a waste! very little improvement if any!

I,m gonna test these if they don,t preform any better I will just use the other card in my HTPC which still has a 3870 in it

I also ordered a ARCTIC SILIENT COOLER radiator for this card get rid of that LOUD FAN! I hope it works!

Rating + 5 Fantastic for the Buck

Pros: Wow, this video card flys! After doing an update of the proper drivers for Vista this baby smokes! I am seeing frame rates that I couldn't possibly imagine from anything else.

Cons: Yeah.... this one kind of is a major pain.
After installing the video card and whatnot I noticed that the plug for the fan was broken. Yeah, that's lovely, brand new video card not even out of the box and its broke. I could still plug in the card and plug in the power connection, but I really shouldn't have had to do that.

Other Thoughts: I know ASUS has always made quality products, but they really need to be more careful when at least putting the card in the box they package. Other than this minor SNAFU, all is well.

Pros: Price is relatively low and package is very nice.

Cons: I played World of Warcraft with this card on a 1600x1200 LCD and it worked most of the times. However, whenever I am near Dalaran, the game would crash. When I looked at the error log, I realized that the card is being recognized as having 1024MB memory instead of 512MB. Check the ASUS website, there is no new BIOS for this card. And I had already had this card for more than 30days and I cannot return it. I wish ASUS would provide better support for this card.

Rating + 4 cheap and good build

Pros: -bought it on rebate for $169, after MIR will be around $140. best card for the price.
-factory overclock makes this card the fastest for its class
-build quality is solid
-comes in nice box with leather mouse pad

Cons: - gigantic.
- there is no enclosure of any kind to enclose the fan. Perhaps it provides better airflow that way? Not entirely sure. but, I'm paranoid about one of my cables slipping and hitting the fan. one egg off for this.

Other Thoughts: factory overclock makes this one of the faster 4870's out there, and it's much cheaper compared to the other ones if you bought it on rebate.

Pros: Works Fast When it works. COD WAW worked pretty good with the exception of some grapic bugs. This card works flawlessly on some other games with great speeds. but..

Cons: World of warcraft don't work to well at all, I start flying around from dalaran and the screen will flicker and the game will error out or the gfx will turn to trash. I've tried every driver out there even upgraded to a 850watt PS. I swapped out to another vid card and the system is solid no crashes.

Other Thoughts: From looking at the asus forums I see lots of complaints on this card. I am going to try and turn this in and maybe go back to Get another video card all together.

Cons: Screen flashing seems to be a very common concern with this card. Read the forums on ASUS. Easily fixed by using RIVA. Also fixed once overclocked.

Rating + 5 My first ATI card

Pros: Price - got mine when on sale for one-sixty-four!; top notch (and cool) packaging; looks cool; not as big as I thought it would be. Will buy another for CrossFire next month! No longer can people call me an Nvidia fanboy. Unquestionably the best valued performance card for most user needs at 1920x1200 and below resolutions.

Cons: Runs VERY hot – not sure I like that long term or how it will work out for CF, but the 3 year warranty eases concerns; no connection instructions for a first time PCI-e high powered card user, but I figured it out in short order. Price has gone back up 25 clams, but I scored one before it did!

Other Thoughts: Other thoughts: *Never* use the hardware driver CDs – download ‘em! This is my first ATI card ever. After months of review reading on the GTX 9800+ [250 GTS] and the 4870, it was a no-brainer to go with this. Further, since my 22” LCD is 1680x1050, a 1GB card would be of little benefit over 512MB. I decided to go with 8.1 Catalyst drivers after reading horrors of people upgrading to 8.2 and 8.3. Downloaded the drivers from ATI’s site to a USB drive and away my new build went! Coming from a P4 3.2GHz & 7800GS AGP system to this more than doubled FS 2004 frames at the same resolution even after pushing every quality slider to the max for the first time ever. Build: ASUS P5Q Pro, E8400 (keeping stock until system burn in), 2x2GB G.Skill 1066, Zalman 9700LED, Corsair 750W, WD Velociraptor 300GB+WD black 640GB, Pioneer DVD-R/W/BD, XP Pro SP3; CrossFire, 24” LCD, & new games next month!

Rating + 5 Great Score

Pros: Unreal price for the performance after MIR!
+ Excellent performance with factory overclock
+ Additional overclocking headroom with Qimonda, model IDGV51-05A1F1C-40, memory chips. Specific to this particular ASUS card.
+ Excellent Temperature control. The Dark Knight cooler works excellent. And the ASUS BIOS is for fan control purposes.
+ Crossfire bridge & adapters included
+ Three year warranty is better than average on 4870 model cards.

Cons: Neither of my two cons are really bad. A person buying a card like this should already have these covered or at least already aware of the . But in case someone does not realize this card is a gaming card meant for speed. Gaming cases usually have good airflow and a strong PSU.
+ The Dark Knight cooler does not exhaust the heat out of the PC. Good case ventilation is necessary.
+ A little power hungry, make sure your PC has ample PSU.

Other Thoughts: Excellent performance.

Cons: Fan gets really loud when on at 100% but I guess that's expected.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to have good case ventilation. Noticed that if I unplugged my case fans, that my idle temp would rise to 48-50C, but with the case fans, it idles at 41C.

Rating + 5 BEASTLY

Pros: This thing is crazy powerful. For the price this offer is hard to beat. Asus includes a really nice looking heat sink with it. It looks stunning. The packaging is top notch. Reassures you that you have made a quality purchase. Comes with many adapters, and even includes a leather mouse pad. FPS improvements are amazing with this card.

Cons: Runs a tad hot, but nothing to be worried about. Mine actually runs only 63c idle and probably 75c load. Haven't actually tested load yet, but it is hot to touch when gaming. Modern gpus run hot though.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these to run in crossfire and I rip through games. Everything is butter smooth FPS. Crysis runs 25-35fps at 1680 x 1050 very high dx10 4xaa though. Most everything else runs over 100.
You cannot beat the price to performance ratio on this.

ASUS makes a quality board. I love it. They named it the Dark Knight also ;)

Pros: Upgrade from 9600 GT, noticed a much smoother WoW gameplay experience. Dalaran zones in significantly faster. Long time nvidia user, giving ati a try again and liking it so far.

Cons: For now, the fan is louder than the 9600, but I am going to try the tuning software that came on the CD. Typically I try not to load extra fluff-ware, but if it runs quieter with causing over heat problems, I'll try it.

Other Thoughts: It's big, duh, but I have ample case room. Item just went to auto notify, so others have seen the excellent value at 140 bones.

Rating + 5 Very Easy to OC

Pros: High OCing ability. Very stable with a good MB chipset (790FX). I bought this with the plan of CF another in the future but 1 card is good enough even on Crysis. Very happy I went with this instead of spending another $270 on a 295 GTX.

Cons: Confusion about the included software. I read that I should use the ATI site software and not the supplied but this conflicts with what most users say. Just go to ATI and ASUS and get the most up to date drivers and use which works better for you.

Other Thoughts: This card is meant to be used on a Dragon Platform (790GX) and it seems to be at its best there, but it works excellent on 790FX as well without Dragon.

Cons: I keep getting a BSOD telling me that the "driver is in an infinite loop" when I try to run anything graphical. There really is no reason for this.

Other Thoughts: Can you put out some good drivers please?

Rating + 3 Great, when it works.

Pros: Card is beautiful. Super smooth game play in COD4 with all of the setting pushed to full. Runs WoW at 1680x1050 with the settings up and full shadows at about 40-60 FPS. Idles around 50C in my case and doesn't really go past 65C at peak load.

Cons: Fails A LOT. I don't know what's going on. I'll be playing and then the screen will just go black but there will still be sound. I'm using the 9.3 catalyst drivers and this is ridiculous. If the screen does turn back on I sometimes get a message that says the display drivers have failed. It's horrible.

Other Thoughts: What the hell asus? Please fix this. I'm using one of your motherboards too, the M2N-E

Rating + 5 Works great

Pros: Well so far I'm completely satisfied. Card works great, no issues. Even a decent upgrade from my vanilla 4850, which I sold to a friend. Even if you never see the rebate it's still an amazing price for such a great card.

Cons: None that I've come across.

Other Thoughts: 3DMark Vantage score went from ~7600 (vanilla 4850) to ~9100 (4870 DK TOP). Using an OC'd Phenom II 720 @ 3.4Ghz

Rating + 5 Best card I have ever owned

Pros: Ultra fast, amazing memory bandwidth with GDDR5 on board, price is really good. Runs fairly cool, even with fans ramped down to about 35% to reduce noise, I only load after an hour of gaming straight at about 53C, Board looks cool with nice heat pipes, and asus logo.

Did I mention fast!! Play Crysis in high settings 1440X900 and score 45 FPS average, everything else on the market will run full out past your monitors refresh rate, its as much card as anyone would reasonably require.

Cons: Have to use two six pin PCIE connections to power this monster.

Rating + 5 Solid Price / Performance

Pros: Very fast and the custom cooling solution that ASUS provides on the card is very good. At 21C room temperature, this card will get in the 65C-70C range at the highest "stock" (factory OC'ed) speed. Plenty of overhead to OC more.

With the $30 MIR, this makes for a well priced card for the performance return. Tagged along with the Newegg coupon of $50, this card is pretty amazing.

Cons: The fan at 100% is extremely loud. If you are savvy enough to put on a different fan, it may be worth considering, or even a side case mount fan to draw out the heat.

Other Thoughts: The first one I got from Newegg was DoA, flawless RMA process and this is the review of the product I received that does work.

Rating + 1 STAY AWAY

Pros: Great chipset, after tweaking the heatsinks decent idle and load temps

Cons: on RMA #2 with a dead board sitting on my desk all RMA's are from ASUS.
first RMA: Dead fan
Second RMA: Dead fan and will not post.
Third RMA (current): Will not post in any of my machines, OR any of my friends machines. 5 machines tested in total.

After some research this line of asus boards seems to have MAJOR issues... not posting and the fans going dead are a few of them, artifacts on the screen and colored lines are others.

Other Thoughts: will stick to asus Motherboards from now on, ill go to HIS, Sapphire or other board maker.

Rating + 5 Use Asus Drivers

Pros: The card is a good deal for the price, the benchmark for the GPU are some of the best for a stand alone, and the card run cool in my case at about 45c ( 115f )

Cons: The Ati driver that came with the unit had some problems with Bioshock and SID's 4. The games would load but after about 5 min of game play would kick me out and i would get a windows error about ati catalyst had a problem. The fix is to download the ASUS drivers

Rating + 5 Excellent Deal!

Pros: Very fast and relatively quiet. I upgraded from a 8800GT and noticeable performance increase. I didn't use the included drivers but went with the most recent Catalyst 9.2 drivers and everything works great. Excellent price A/R.

Cons: Fan can get loud under full load but it's only a complaint because I was used to a passively cooled 8800GT which made no noise. I've had louder video cards in the past so it's not too bad.

Other Thoughts: Overkill for a 19" LCD but I do get to turn up all the effects with no performance issues. This card would best paired with a 24" LCD for the level of performance it provides.

Pros: This video card is simply AWESOME for the price! no need to try to OC. At 815mhz and ram at 3.6ghz stock, it smokes! It seems to run fairly cool too.

Cons: Gamer OSD's video capture was not great.

Also, I got STALKER Clear Sky with it for free. It would not run on my system. I could not play it. there must be a software conflict with the game.

Other Thoughts: Asus SmartDoctor is cool though.
I love this purchase. It really finished out my system for now. Thank you Newegg for the great deal.

Rating + 5 Addition for my review

Pros: Forgot to mention like other said it is large. I measured it and it is 10" long. This was exactly the length of my motherboard, but fit no problem in my mid size case. I was actually very happy with its size considering it's a whole inch and a half smaller than my brother's 11.5" geforce 9800 gtx.

Cons: read my real review sorry for the repeat just forgot to include this

Other Thoughts: The box is comes in is EPIC. Epic being beautiful and nicely done. I could have sworn the nice looking box and leather mouse pad it comes with boosts my fps in games.

Rating + 5 Excellent

Pros: Excellent choice of card. Runs WoW with amazing fps max settings with 4x AA and high view distance and whatnot. Ran FEAR2 great. Fan speed usually at 50% (set on auto) and i never seen it go above 50C even with my no name $20 case. Will pick up a second one of these later when price drops more.

Cons: Came with free stalker clear skies game, had a problem getting it to run said i needed original cd, dunno what that was about. When i got it running i was a little disappointed with is performance on max settings, had to tone it down. Oh well i didn't play it anyway. After the first level it seemed pretty lame so I picked up F.E.A.R 2 instead.

Still waiting on rebate, but should come in a month or 2

Other Thoughts: Runs WoW with amazing fps max settings with 4x AA and high view distance and whatnot. Usually dont go below 30fps in a crowded dalaran weekend, 60+ everywhere else and usually 60 fps in 25man raid, but can dip down to 45. Played F.E.A.R 2 completely maxx settings with antialiasing and everything looks beautiful and smooth (fun game btw).

I was worried about some reviews with drivers and stuff NO PROBLEMS. I was worried because i heard of some problems iwth 4870 and WoW software not getting along NO PROBLEMS

Pros: Great Card.
Great Overclocker (if you wanted to)
Runs ALL my games at the highest level.

Cons: Wasn't FREE

Other Thoughts: To the person that said their "Antec TruePower 500W could not handle this card". Something must be wrong with your PSU. I have the PP&C 500W psu and it powers my Phenom 9950/EAH4870DK/2 Sata HDD/4GB RAM/2 DVD drive/Zalman 9500/2 Case fans w/o breaking a sweat...and I OC CPU 3.0Ghz and card to 875Mhz on occasion.

Rating + 5 Worth every penny!

Pros: Best card to get out there nowadays considering cost/performance ratio. Amazing packaging and tons of connectors (VGA, DVI, HDMI) and even a free mouse pad! That said, this card is rock solid and the Dark Knight cooling system definitely helps. Blows my old 8800 GT out of the water completely.

Cons: Drivers provided are more outdated than my grandma. Do yourself a favor and download the newest catalyst drivers first. The optional ASUS software is a joke, installing it is more of a liability than an asset.

Other Thoughts: First time I loaded it up I had random graphical tearing and glitching. Upon closer inspection I noticed that one of my power cords were not plugged in all the way, after doing so and reinstalling drivers just in case I've had no problem at all. So for those with issues make sure your power is fully connected to your card (yes both slots need to be plugged in.) Got it when there was a $50 coupon and a $30 rebate, definitely made it a steal!

Pros: This thing is smoking, completely blows my 8800 GT off the map. The rebate and coupon code that let me pick this up for just over $120 was amazing too. This thing runs much cooler than other radeon 4870s too because of the cooling system. Playing Dawn of War II and Empire Total War on Ultra High settings 1680 X 1050 smooth as silk.

Cons: Drivers included with box are older than my grandmother, like seriously, ditch those and download the newest catalyst drivers. In fact, don't even bother using any of the ASUS "innovations" software, utterly pointless and buggy too.

Other Thoughts: To those that had problems with visual tearing and graphical glitches I experienced the exact same thing, I opened up my case and saw that one of the power cables was loose, so make sure they're plugged in snugly (and yes you need to plug in both the slots). After that and a new driver install I've had nothing but smooth sailing.

Pros: - Cost
- Idles @48-50c, climbs to around 62 playing COD4 at moderate settings (2x AA - 16x12).

Cons: Loud . . . No cover exposes a fan that is now the only audible component in my system. The noise is a real irritant . . . but too be expected and outweighed by the pros

Other Thoughts: With rebate, came to around 160.00. Excellent P/P ratio

Rating + 5 Nice, if loud, card

Pros: This card is superfast and works well. I've cranked up the settings on all my games and it handles them with ease.

Cons: The fan is significantly louder than the fan on my prior card (Radeon HD 3850), but the latest Catalyst Control Center allows you to adjust the span speed manually, so you can find a speed that balances noise and temperature for you.

Rating + 5 Great card for the price

Pros: The card is faster than I could have hoped. Plays all of my games, except Crysis, on the highest details and 8x antialiasing at 1680x1050 (HL2 ep. 2, Doom3, Oblivion, etc.)

Cons: Offloading processes to the CPU is a technique the ATI cards utilize, which helps them run faster under normal circumstances, but makes running processor intensive applications (such as pcsx2) problematic.

Other Thoughts: Huge upgrade from the 6800 Ultra I paid over $500 for 5 years ago. I was debating between the 4870 and the 9800GTX+ in a price to performance comparison...and after the sale price and Mail-in-rebate, the 4870 DK Top caim out to around the same price as the cheapest 9800GTX+, so the decision was obvious. I don't regret it.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of this heatsink only cooling the GPU. As it turns out though, the 6800 uses the same mounting hole spacing, and roughly the same memory layout, so I may just use my old koolance waterblock I had on it.

Rating + 5 Good card, even better price!

Pros: Very nicely designed awesome looking gunmetal heatsink.
Three words: FREE LEATHER MOUSEPAD :O
The box is nothing short of wicked, I may buy another just for the box ;)
Fast!!!
Did I mention Fast???
micro SMT LEDs on back of card that flash upon power up.
Comes with DVI to HDMI adapter.
Comes with DVI to RGB (VGA) adapter.
Comes with component adapter.
Comes with a crossfire bridge.

Cons: Requires two 4-pin power adapters from power supply. This is not so much a con as a warning.
Needs a well ventilated case. This is all 4870 cards though.

Other Thoughts: Installed without a hitch. Runs what games I have tested at my monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200 with all settings on high, very smoothly.

Runs Windows Vista Aero interface with Vista Ultimate Dreamscene animated desktop background simultaneously.

Rating + 5 Like installing a Ferrari engine on my horse and buggy..

Pros: It's fast, powerful, quiet, and looks sexy with the Dark Knight cooler. Add in the price (especially when on sale), and you have yourself a miracle baby.

Cons: The card only has 512mb of memory, which means that it can be bogged down if you play MMOs or other high content games and dont have enough shared memory to support it.

Other Thoughts: Never even touched the ASUS drivers, went straight to the Cat 9.2. Has worked without a single flicker or artifact on any of the settings I've played with.

Being that my old card was an x850xt, we're talking about a night and day difference for me in every catagory. The fan is quieter than all my other cpu fans until I crank the fan speed to 100%... and even at that speed it's not even half as loud as my old 850. At the default box settings (815 gpu clock, 925 mem) the card runs 57 C idle and up to 65 under load with auto fan control. Cranking the fan to run 100% dropped the values a few degrees, but I dont find a 2-3 degree difference ov 60% worth the harder wear and tear of the fan. Overclocking has caused me to hit temps of 70+, but then my current system sucks.

So that you may question why such a good card is in a old system, my specs:
Windows XP pro SP3
Pentium D (essentially dual 3ghz P4s)
2 GB of 533 mhz
300 GB hdd (2x 150 7200rpm in raid 0)

Pros: This is a great card for the price. It handles everything you can throw at it. I've been running it overclocked (865/970) for a week, very stable.

Cons: Runs a little warm (44C in an open case) with no load.

Pros: Performance, my rig is OLD. AMD Athlon X2 4400+ 2 gigs DDR800. Built this so long ago I can't even remember what chipset I'm using. Replaced my 7800GT and huge improvements everywhere. Got this while it was on sale, so the pricing of it was awesome.

Cons: This thing is hot, and it vents into the case. So... doesn't take someone with any technical know how to know that's a bad thing.

Pros: I got a really good price + $30 rebate on a 4870. Looks really cool.

Cons: I got various video issues at advertised clock speeds. If it had worked perfectly at 815/925 I would have gave it 5. Dropped the clock speeds back to 765/900 and it is stable.

Other Thoughts: I also manually set the fan speed to 100%. I can't hear it over the 6 other fans I have in my case anyway.

Pros: As soon as I booted my computer I was amazed how crisp and clear my graphics had become. You would be crazy not to buy this card if you have the cash. I'm tired of hearing about Nvidia, I have had both and ATI might have a few driver issues but I will never go back to Nvidia.

Cons: Had to play with a few drivers to get a stable one. Don't use Asus drivers or tools stick with ATI drivers and CCC. Throw the driver disk away as soon as you see it

Cons: Gamer OSD and ASUS drivers! Forget about the driver CD, use ATI drivers. Uninstall previous graphics card drivers and software before you install the card. Download and install latest ATI drivers.
