Good Card
Pros: Ran just fine with stock cooling. Due to an unfortunate bounce when I had my case open and PC running, the stock fan broke. (I have a small case and had poor ventilation at the time.) Ran around 50C idle and 70C under load. These were similar temps to my 8800 GTS 320MB and are considered acceptable by anyone who knows stock coolers. I replaced the Heat sink with some $40 aftermarket and my temps never reach 50C even under heavy sustained loads. When I replaced the HS I also improved the airflow of the case so this may help with my load temperatures.
Cons: Other reviewers saying they have a high tech level when they obviously do not.
John, it's you're own fault for not keeping your bios up to date. It's like installing Windows and never updating. A stupid lack of maintenance.
Others: Don't rate a something down because you can't push it harder than advertised. Its only guaranteed to go the speeds its shipped with.
Other Thoughts: I didn't send in the rebate because I have had nasty experiences with the rebate companies and returning cards that no longer have a proof of purchase. I prefer to return things to newegg so that I can get manufacturers product when I RMA.
I'm considering getting a second one for crossfire but I'm unsure with DX11 models being released.
I would have RMA'd because of the fan break but my ethics got the better of me.

got got my rebate finally.
Pros: Handles every game just fine. HDMI port Display port low price great value.
Cons: no memory heat sinks. no fan speed control only so so temps with stock heat sink. Even tho there are three display outputs it can only use two at a time.
Other Thoughts: I just received my rebate, it only took 5 months. I replaced the stock fan with a ARCTIC COOLING ACCELS1 Rev 2. it cools my card so much better. Idle temps were in the 50's, now with the AC accels it idles at 37. I may get another card so i can have four monitors instead of just two.

Decent
Pros: So far so good...the crossfire is cool
Cons: Could have been more heavy duty constrution wise and a bigger and faster fan.

***Warning to all potential buyers!***
Pros: It worked when I had it. Now it doesn't work anymore. They provided me with a solution to crossfire problems.
Cons: The memory is hot on it and has no cooling, if you try to even edge the gpu pass the default 750mhz it will crash! This is unacceptable! To get crossfire working I had to talk to tech support and run a number of tests. The default bios that comes with it DOES NOT WORK WITH CROSSFIRE! You must update your bios to the newest bios available on their website. The drivers on the CD is the only driver that works with crossfire if you decide to crossfire two of these cards. When you use newer Catalyst drivers, you will not be able to get these cards to crossfire without first updating the bios. They do not tell you this, I had to find out the hard way why the cards will not crossfire at all. They did not make a working crossfire bios until I kept providing them information of why it wasn't working. It wasn't until that they admitted that crossfire doesn't work and provided me with an updated bios. My crossfire ended up being disabled so I checked my second card. Yes, it was dead....
Other Thoughts: After 4 months, this videocard died. I don't recommend this brand in the future if you decide to buy videocards. At first I had tried to crossfire it with my XFX 4890 1GB to only find out crossfire doesn't work. It wasn't my XFX 4890 all along, it was the Gigabyte 4870 1GB with the bad bios that was causing problems with crossfire. Don't be fooled by the Zalman fan, it doesn't keep this card cool enough to save its life. There is no options in Catalys Control Center to control the fan speed, so there is no sensor on the fan to control speed. There are no heatsinks for the memory either, tell me why all other 4870 Radeon series has heatsinks on their memory except Gigabyte? That's right, because build quality for this card is abysmal and lacking in the quality department. My first card is only surviving because I have a full waterblock on it. Just do a Google search for this card and you will find it's plagued with all sorts of problems.

Great video, runs hot
Pros: Loved playing games with all features enabled at 1920x1080. Older games, no problems, looks fantastic.
Cons: Latest game (Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena) overheats within 2 minutes, had to add a 120mm fan to blow on it as well (didn't want to go to water cooling) and works fine after that.
Other Thoughts: Crashes randomly if unattended, very rarely during game play so I can live with it. Still working my way through all the updates.

Good price point
Pros: Good speeds, runs any modern game mostly maxxed. Drivers are available, and improve performance as you get new ones.
Cons: Fan is loud, but not unbearably so. Card is long, power slots are at the end (facing horizontally), which make cabling the space a little harder. Would rather have them on top.
Other Thoughts: Probably couldn't run crossfire without heating problems, just one runs hot.

trade up 3870
Pros: bought a 3870 from gigabyte a couple of years ago which has been flawless. decided it was time evolve into the 4870
Cons: about to click on buy until i noticed the rebate was another worldwiderebate scam.
Other Thoughts: guess im going to have to wait until the card is on sale without the rebate

Good Card/Long Rebate
Pros: This is an update to a previous review I wrote a few months ago. This card is great! Less expensive than other 1GB 4870 cards, Zalman cooler, can handle anything I play at max settings without problems.
Cons: 1. Size, which I knew when buying it. Card is so long and so wide that it cuts my CoolerMaster Centurion 5 almost in half. 2. Power hookups; requires two PCI-E connectors. Comes with an adapter, but make sure your PSU has enough spare plugs. 3. Rebate (see below)
Other Thoughts: The rebate processing "confirmed" receipt of my rebate application (the actual form w/barcode, not my online registration) quickly after I sent it in. It took 10 weeks for them to "process" my application. They then emailed me saying I would receive my rebate check in 8-10 weeks. TWENTY WEEKS FOR A REBATE IS OUTRAGEOUS!

Gigabyte GA-R487D5-G1 RADON
Pros: This is a good board and works well, has that great Radon preformance. Played witcher on it it was flawless you can open up all the video features. So effectively this is a very powerful piece of hardware
Cons: Found initially only analog output before drivers installed. Nothing in the manual on that just found out by trial and error.
Also I have been to the rebate site 3 times and typed in all the information only to get dumped out to the beginning each time. This is frustrating considering I gathered all the information together under rebate offer GIG-5071 (6/29/09 purchased on) then there is no mailling address provided or rebate form for you to sign & send with the other paperwork. I am taking two eggs off the rating because I consider not fulfilling a rebate, a breach of the purchase agreement by the mfg. Its the old story if you want to give me a rebate why not take it off the top $ to begin with.
IT IS A SHAME ABOUT THE REBATE EXPERIENCE SOURING THIS RATING WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN 5 EGGS.

Awesome card all around...and QUIET
Pros: Good at keeping itself around ~52C for the most part, can get up to 72-75C under prolonged heavy graphics but cools right down when finished. 1GB DDR5! Great Zalman cooler! Basically brought me to almost where I was at with two 4850's crossfired (14,000's vs. 15,000's in 3DM06). Getting over 14,500 in 3dMark06 with single 4870 now! Noticed some crossfire issues with 2 4850's (ie in Crysis) but no more and without losing performance with this card. Can play COD4, Grid, Crysis whatever all maxed settings! Decision also based on that while card is a beast, reviews stated not nearly the power-hungry monger as other cards in its class and I have found this to be true. Truly a QUIET card too. Definitely can't go wrong with this card.
Cons: None. Not a huge overclocker by any means...but with the little it does oc - added performance boost without comprimsing temperatures at all.
Other Thoughts: System Specs: MSI K9A2 Platinum Mobo AMD Phenom 9850 BE OC'd to 3.0Ghz (100% stable on air) Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler 4GB Mushkin PC2-6400 Dual Channel 2x250 16MB Cache Seagate SATA 7200K RAID 0 Gigabyte 1GB 4870 Corsair 650W PS Dual DVD's Antec 900 Case Asus 22" monitor, 2ms Vista Ultimate 64-bit
To give an idea on how AMD/ATI delivers great performance at a great price, here's a quick comparison: Basically, my system is coming within 18% of reference of an Intel core i7 920 with a GTX 295 system (14800 vs 17100 on 3DMark06) BUT FOR WAY WAY LESS $$$ - sweet. Only the i7 920 chip and gtx 295 together cost 2/3rd's of what I paid for ALL of my components.

I missed out on discount with AMD Phenom II X4 945!!
Pros: Man this think works great with my new build. Plays Crysis,CSS,HL2D,DODS, and anything that I throw at it. This card is a beast, just make sure you get a power-supply that can handle it. I say at-least 550W or more. And this thing is huge. Make sure you put it in last while putting together your build.
Cons: If I had waited just a little bit longer then I would have gotten the 70$ discount with the AMD Phenom II X4 945!!!
Other Thoughts: If your reading this review and have been thinking about getting a new PC then get this card! And pair it up with the AMD Phenom II X4 945!!!

Great Graphics Card
Pros: This card is fast. It's been great when I've been using Adobe After Effects or Photoshop. It easily overclocks using a third party tool or even the ATi Catalyst Control Center. The fan is relatively quiet, even at higher speeds.
Cons: Seems to always be at a temperature of 55C or higher, even with the fan on while idling. This isn't too bad, but if were planning on doing some serious overclocking it might get a bit hot while under load for long periods of time.

Great Quality Cool and Quiet Fan
Pros: Gigabyte makes very good Video Cards and I would by another of this card. One is all you need to play ANY game.
Cons: Not on sale when I got it. much cheaper now.
Other Thoughts: Like the Zalmann Cooling as it is Quiet and Cool in my Case.

Excellent Card
Pros: Very fast card. I only have an e2180 OC'd to 2.66ghz, but with this card I was able to max out all but the AA and AF in Empire Total War while playing at 1920x1080. The custom cooler on the card is also very quiet.
Cons: Custom cooler is slightly taller than the card. Can get in the way of case lid in some smaller cases. Box only came with one 6 pin GPU Molex power adapter. I didn't need two with my PSU but some people might.
Other Thoughts: I put this card in an Antec Fusion HTPC case. It fits fine until you try and put the cover back on. Two copper pieces on top of the custom cooler on the card prevent the case lid from going on properly. Also the lower of the two GPU power connectors is blocked by the sectioning off of the case. A few modifications to the case with some tin snips fixed all this, but that's the only way to make a full length graphics card fit in this case.

Rebate?
Pros: Decent unit, blocks adjacent slot, expected that, mb fault, not the cards. More power than I need, turns out the issues causing my upgrade to this card were not GPU related. I like having a teraflop available, just don't know how/where to use it. $30 Cheaper than when I bought it, but still happy with it. NewEgg has performed as expected, well.
Cons: Constant driver updates, a newer gen of card is out and they still don't have the drivers right? Need to upgrade my other components to match performance. Hope Win 7 works well.
Other Thoughts: Just was notified that I will get my rebate (debit card) in 10 weeks. Today is 06/08/09, bought 3/30/09. Granted I did not mail rebate for 2 weeks, but still that is 16 weeks for a rebate, I suppose that is better than the DRAM rebates that just disappear........

Won't Crossfire
Pros: Great single slot card. DVI and HDMI ports, 1GB of GDDR5 memory.
Cons: Won't crossfire - I purchased a second card to crossfire, and I am using a Gigabyte MB w/crossfire. The card appears in windows and in the Catalyst software. The card shows "disabled" in the software, and the "crossfire" tab does not appear. Further research on the web shows that this card will not crossfire in Windows XP.
Other Thoughts: Newegg RMA'd right away - Gigabyte customer care non-existent.

Way better than I expected.
Pros: Bought it as a cheap displayport card for my dell 3008. Wasn't expecting much, but it surprised me with its performance.
Much better 3d performance than the 4850 I had. The displayport is very handy too. Runs 2 dell 30" with no problems.
Cons: 2 problems, mostly minor:
1. Linux drivers are still behind the nvidia ones. Have come a long way, but not what I'd choose for a real workstation.
2. The display detection is off. My dell 3008 has a built-in switch for displayport and dvi, so I can plug it into another workstation for linux also. Unfortunately, when the display powers up this driver automatically sets the right screen to clone, killing performance on both. I tried settings profiles and such, but I have to disable the second screen manually every time, which is a bit of a pain.
Other Thoughts: Nice value for the performance. Am thinking about getting a 4870x2 for better 3d performance while keeping the connectivity, but the reviews have been negative with regards to xfire, and the performance is great as it is.

Killer Card
Pros: Card looks great and runs great, blue PCB looks great in my clear case (I refuse to buy a red card). Native DVI, HDMI and Display Port is awsome and only card that supports all three. Temps are idle 40C and load 65C which are great. I run it at 790/4000 and no problems. Crysis runs great in DX10 and is much faster than my 4850 Toxic 512MB. 5 stars for NewEgg. 4 stars for Gigabyte because of previous card issue.
Rig Specs: GigaByte X38 DS4 - E8400 @ 4GHz 8GB DDR2 @ 900MHz 4-4-4-12 4870 1GB 790/1000 - Apevia 680watt 2*250GB SATA2 Raid 0 - Vista x64 SP2
Cons: I bought this same card in January and could not get it to work properly in DX10 games and when I would play most DX10 games the sceen would flash. I sent it back for a full refund to NewEgg (thank you) and decided to buy it again and this card has worked perfectly. I looked on Gigabyte's website and see they have several models of this card with different manufacturers memory. The one I just received has Qimonda memory and BIOS dated 2/9/09. They may have fixed some problems with the newest card.
Other Thoughts: I had a 4850 Toxic card that worked well but ran very hot even with a pure copper Zalman. Seems a 4850 with lower clocks of 690/2200 would run at idle 45C and load 90C would run much hotter (seems strange to me). This card smokes the Toxic card. Also I started having a problem with Crysis Warhead with the Toxic card where I could not run in DX10 mode, I put this card in and my problems went away. Very happy and just bought a HannsG 27.5 LCD 1920*1200 and hoping this card with the 1GB memory will support it well.

There's your trouble...
Pros: Looks decent. DDR 5 (i remember being amazed at the speed I had WAY back with GDDR 2! lol)256-bit (not 512, but still ok). If i get 1, I'm DEFINATELY buying 2.
Cons: N/A
Other Thoughts: I know your problems... You are trying to run ANYTHING AT ALL on Windows FAIL..uh i mean Vista! lol. dont rate it bad because its your system and not the card. works good on xp 64 (friend owns a small shop and tested one) but there are always the suckers...uh, i mean shoppers who have to move up to the next big thing right away.

seems good to me
Pros: - zalman cooling fan - good value - hdmi
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I haven't tried the card on any games yet, but I did not experience any driver issues on XP professional and I am very confident that this card will have no issues running any of my games given it's specs.

NO HELP FROM GIGABYTE or ATI
Pros: It works on the Standard Video Driver.
Cons: Would have gave it no eggs but will not let me.
Don't get this for Windows Ultimate x64 Vista. It has not worked from day 1. I have RMA'd it and have gotten the same card and the problem persist. The drivers are very unstable and all problems have come from loading the drivers from the disk and the latest drivers. 3 clean installs of the OS have not produced any positive results. The support from Gigabyte has been less than pleasing. They keep talking down to me, ask me to do the same thing that apparently I have done, and will not help with finding a solution. Same as ATI or AMD.
Other Thoughts: I can get a old Diamond x1600 512M DDR2 to work with the latest drivers supported for it on my new build but not this card. So I know it is not my machine.

Can't get crossfire working
Pros: One card performs VERY well way better than I was expecting, handles far cry 2 at the absolute highest settings without a hiccup, would be great in crossfire I bet.....
Cons: CAN'T GET CROSSFIRE WORKING, Gigabytes webpage has very poor support, no forums, no updated drivers, not very good translators looks like it was written by someone who learned engrish and not english.
Still waiting to hear back from their "Customer Care" Hope you don't make the same mistake I did and go with amd/ati because it cheap.
Other Thoughts: Get intel and nvidia, amd/ati have been going downhill rapidly and I was foolish to go with them to save money.

Everything I wanted.
Pros: This card was, at the time, the cheapest available with one of the 4870 1 gigs. Crysis runs in DX 9 with all settings turned up as high as they can at about 12 fps. Turning down AA to about 4 to 8x bumps that up to about 25, 30 fps. It destroys source games (after all, there were 10 or so molotovs and a couple gas cans on fire in Left 4 Dead and it only slightly slowed down, source doesn't like partials). The card runs amasingly cool as well. With the fan not spinning it idals at 56° C.
Cons: Second Life has with OpenGL turned on causes random vectors to spawn. I think this is an issue with the GDDR 5 not the card specifically.
Other Thoughts: Well worth the investment over all. Runs cool with a high potential for overclocking.

Linux OpenGL performance best bang-for-the-buck
Pros: See my other review.
Cons: Noise may turn away users who are planning on using this on an HTPC or similar setup. Lack of an exhaust system, or fan controller, can experience temperature issues with cases that are less than the best at airflow.
Other Thoughts: I wish that the Zalman cooler had some kind of exhaust system. My Velocity Micro (aka Lian Li) case has really good ventilation, but this is not enough to move the heat out of the case. I had to install an exhaust fan located on the far side of the case opposite to the card to pull the heat from the CPU side (which was affecting the case temperature +2 to +5 deg C under load). However, if running Ubuntu Linux, use the stock drivers that come with your distro ... do not use the latest drivers from ATI as they have proven time and time again not to work with certain OpenGL applications such as X-Plane.
Card runs at 41C idle and mid 50s under load.
Crysis demo on Windows XP SP3 clocks in at avg 23 FPS. No crashes.

Vista 32b Unstable - Hates multiple displays
Pros: New egg fast delivery - best value for direct HDMI connections.
Probably works well if you don't demand much from it.
Cons: Very poor reliability - Constant crashing in all applications and graphic corruption after 1-3 hours under load. First time I've seen blue screens in Vista.
Nightmare to manage multiple displays with, 1 HDMI connection 1 DVI connection - 30% of boot ups one of the panels is lost or the order has swapped.
New ATi Catalyst driver actually made it worse, so scrubbing that out and installing the most recent update from Gigabyte was a hoot, the installer stuck everything in but the driver, failed out with 'driver install error'. Back to driver packaged on Disc, as at least that makes everything functional (most of the time).
Note this is no overclocking, no weirdness, plan vanilla system with a recently fresh install of Vista-32.
Other Thoughts: First time I ever felt the need to leave a review.
Very much regret this purchase, first ATi product since the late 90s and the drivers are as bad as they ever were. I will never buy an ATi product again, and will never buy a complex non-refundable product again.
I still love Newegg, but getting stuck with this lemon leaves me a bit sour.

Cheap, Fast, Hot, and Loud
Pros: Nice cheap card if you want to upgrade from your old aging VGA card. Improvements over my 8800GTS are very noticeable and significant.
Cons: Runs a bit hotter and louder [fan seems to run at 100% all the time which has a side effect of an annoying low hum] than my old 8800GTS. IMHO - spend the extra money and get a 4870 with a quieter/better cooling setup. I plan to install a ThermalRight T-Rad2 GPU cooler [which will add another $60ish to the total cost of the card].
Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for - it's definitely a great card for the price.

amazed
Pros: This card appeared to be ridiculously good value when i saw it on newegg; cheap, with great performance.
Cons: Incompatible with my 21 inch wide/flatscreen ViewSonic after drivers installed. I spent some extra money simply to power the card and now it wont even work with my monitor.
Im actually amazed no one else on newegg has had this problem and felt I was safe with the 5 egg rating it had, but there were a lot of people with the exact same problem when i googled it later.
They recommend flashing the cards bios but that generally voids warranties and no one has reported any success and so at the moment it feels like I will be returning the card and possibly not purchasing from Gigabyte again. I certainly dont want to spend $200 replacing my monitor.
Other Thoughts: Currently it is running on my old full depth monitor

Games crashed quickly
Pros: Cheapest 1GB 4870 I could find. With my system, the card can just about play Crysis Warhead on Enthusiast settings at 1156x864, though is more comfortable on "Gamer" with 4xAA.
Cons: Card would only run under heavy load 10-15 mins before crashing my games - or my entire system. VRM temps got up to 70C-80C before crash, other card temps 60C-70C, which Gigabyte support indicated was well within limits.
Also note that the fan runs 100% all the time, which was annoyingly loud for low-graphics activities such as surfing the web or reading email.
Other Thoughts: Item was covered by Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy, which means I can't give the card back for good. I wonder why only some video cards are classified non-refundable by NewEgg... Hope a working replacement comes in time for me to claim the April rebate!
My system includes: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DQ6; Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz; 4 GB DDR2 1066 (5/5/5/15); SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-550HT 550W; Antec Solo Case. Running Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

Fast Card
Pros: Bought this card as part of a new build. Have it in a MIS 790FX-GD70 motherboard and paired with a 720 X3 overclocked to 3.7Ghz. Plays all games smoothly at highest settings, including Crysis. Has a non-stock Zalman cooler which helps with temps. With fan set at 85% it runs at 42c idle and 55c under load. Fan is not too loud.
Cons: Very large card. Had to move some things around to make it fit.

It's a Beast!
Pros: Replaced a pair of Nvidia GeForce 6800 GS cards in SLI mode with this card. With a dual2core 3.0Ghz OC'd to 4.1Ghz at 1333 previous 3dmark score was 13,781. With this card: 53,811 - it is insanely fast!
Koolance VID-487 water cooling block fits perfectly. Has built in HDMI and display port connections.
Cons: Long card - same width as MB - requires two 6x power connections
Other Thoughts: Stock cooling fan is pretty substantial. Comes with adapters for video output and power.

Great card, nice price
Pros: 1GB GDDR5, Zalman cooler
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: Some say the card is big, but it's a lot smaller than the 8800 GTX OC that came with mt gateway FX. Zalman fan not too noisy

GIGABYTE Radeon HD 4870
Pros: -HDMI out -GDDR5 -1GB Memory -Very nice cooler
Cons: -Haven't got HDMI to work properly yet, but that may be the monitor or user error. -takes 2PCIe 6pin power plugs... so four to use a Crossfire -Card is big, had to do some work to get it plugged in and the cables around it. -HDMI not recognized by BIOS (Asus PT6) so you need to use DVI for installing an OS
Other Thoughts: -Runs Oblivion with max settings with not problems (12GB RAM, i7920) -Haven't tried the GIGABYTE software but I'm not a big overclocker. ATI drivers work fine though. -Seems to be a solid graphics card with the security of being able to buy another when it gets a bit slow (or when I get bored and have some extra cash :) ) and link them up.

Works well
Pros: Cheaper than other 1GB 4870 cards. Zalman cooler. Looks nice. Has handled anything I throw at it.
Cons: Size. I have a Cooler Master Centurion 5 case and this card effectively cuts it in half. I barely had enough room to connect the power plugs.
Requires 2x PCI-E power connectors. Comes with an adapter, but depending on your power supply you may not be able to power two of these cards.
Other Thoughts: Will happily update to five eggs once my rebate goes through and the card survives the first few months.

Great Card, Great Price
Pros: Has rendered playable frame rates for all my games including Far Cry 2 @ 1680 x 1050 and all other options maxed out. Runs pretty cool. Price.
Cons: When I bump up to 1080p and the newest games come out I'll probably have to crossfire it.
Other Thoughts: It's a long board. Restricts where I can put hard drives in my Thermaltake Bach mid-tower. Not sure if that's a con for the board or the case. I find the fan to be very quiet. I dont think it would fly in a home theater setting, but that is not really what this card is for.

Pros: Runs Warhammer online max settings with 0 system lag even in the city sieges
Cons: want to buy a 100 mm crossfire cable for my foxconn a79a-s so i can run them at x16 instead of x8

1GB Makes a world of difference if you play 1920x1200 8xAA 16xAF or no AF & AA at all
Pros: It has DVI, HDMI (out only), and Display Port. I clocked the GPU to 790Mhz & 1100Mhz for the memory. It idles at 38C on my MCW60-4870 and hits 41C at load, it's pretty amazing compared to my 4870 512MB which idled at 40C & hit 43-44C at load. It dropped about 2C's so that is good that it runs cool. I don't know how the fan performs because I'm never going to use it.
Cons: The stock holes for the mosfet is a little bit off for use with the design of a Swiftech MCW60-4870 waterblock. The PCB is reference design though and should fit any MCW60 waterblock but somehow the holes are a bit off so I couldn't get both screws in on the mosfet holes. Though it does fit my Visiontek 4870 512MB perfectly. Not much else negative things about this board that I can see.
Other Thoughts: Day of Defeat Source: 512MB Min: 50-60FPS Avg: 80-110FPS Max: 130-140FPS 1GB Min: 110 FPS Avg: 160-170 FPS Max: 270-299 FPS
Team Fortress 2 512MB Min: 40-50 FPS Avg: 60 FPS Max: 90 FPS 1GB Min: 60 FPS - NEVER hits below 60 FPS Avg: 75-85 FPS Max: 100 FPS
Have not tested CSS yet but I'm sure it will do fine, I do measurements using realworld gameplay not synthetic tests and not through FRAPS; I use net_graph in the Source Engine. Need to test GTA4 because a 512MB will not let you do High textures. On a 512MB I only got an average 47.1 FPS in the built-in stress test, it dips down to 25 FPS and sometimes stay at 30-35 FPS which is kind of low. Now I need to test FPS gain in GTA4.

Bang for the buck
Pros: I haven't had the chance to run any benchmarking software yet but I'm very impressed. This game play Sacred 2 with everything maxed with 4x AA at 45-70fps depending on visuals.
Cons: The card is a monster though. Just as long as my motherboard and if I didn't have such a tall tower it would definitely interfere with hard drives.
Other Thoughts: If your considering running two of these in crossfire then you might as well spend the money on one 4870x2

Best single GPU solution for X-Plane 9 available today
Pros: If you are looking for a single video card to run X-Plane or any OpenGL application, this is it. HDMI, DP, and DVI compatible.
Cons: Fan has no automatic speed control, quite noisy for a living room PC.
Other Thoughts: Because the fan only has a single speed setting (I think it's MAX), I may get a fan speed controller for this card, as other users have said. The heatsink runs quite cool during normal non-3D accelerated operations, so I can't see why the fan can't spin down during such times. The size of the card effectively split my case in two, which means that my hard drives (which are located on the bottom of the case) run a little warmer. The overall system temperature also has risen by a few degrees (no more than 5 degrees C).

Pros: OK, this card plays COD4, WIC, and im sure my other games (havent installed them yet) maxed or near maxed out. supreme commander was the only one so far that auto set the graphics for medium. alot of reviews said the fan on it is loud, i cant tell cuz i have so many and there is a fan or two that are louder. the noise doesnt bother me anyway, after a while you dont even realize its there. the card was an easy 1min install.
Cons: the card is definately big, and nearly completely cover the clear CMOS button on my mobo. and it nearly blocked my reach for my 8 pin power connector for the mobo other then that its doing rather fine.

Nice
Pros: Wonderful quality. Love how well my games look now. Run high frames on all games including Age of Conan which I am currently playing. With all settings maxed there is basically no holding back anymore.
Cons: Took me a few days to find the right drivers... Make sure to go to the correct site to get the latest version x.x
Other Thoughts: Great card for games, not too costly, but good quality.

Pros: Fast, cooler works well. Temps are about 50c idle and 60c load. Huge improvement over the 7800gt I had.
1GB memory lets me run GTA 4 with textures on high at 1920x1080.
Cons: Fan can be considered loud and speed can't be controlled, not nearly as noisy as the 7800gt it replaced.
Other Thoughts: Still running on a 3 year old X2 3800+ @2.4ghz with 2gb of ddr memory. It is really holding this card back. GTA 4 benchmark shows almost no change in framerate no matter what I set the graphics settings.

Most awesome
Pros: It's a Radeon HD 4870 1GB card with GDDR5 memory with a Zalman GPU cooler - need I say more? :)
Cons: Nothing in the instructions detail if you need to connect 1 or 2 power cables to the two 6-pin PCI-Express power connectors on the card. The box includes a Y-adapter power connector - two 4-pin connectors routed into one 6-pin PCI-E power connector. Google research helped [connect power cable to both connectors].
Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a 320mb Superclocked 8800GTS and couldn't be happier for the next few years until I have to upgrade again. :)

Great Video Card
Pros: This graphic card has great graphics with input ports for all needs. The (included software) “ATI Overdrive” in ATI Catalyst Control Center allows user to control GPU Clock, Memory Clock and Fan Speed. This video card requires only one expansion slot plug in back of case to be removed but does block expansion slot under it with it’s heat sink and fan. However it does give enough room to place a case fan speed controller in the case slot directly under the cards three input ports, which I use.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Games like Crysis Warhead and Far Cry 2 look great.

advice
Pros: i had the 4850 1gb version, preformed good, but the card was defective, but anyway the cooler works great low temps at all times,
Cons: BUT the fan speed cannot be changed, so it will be at constant speed, which is a bit loud. look at the pictures you will see only two power lines run to the fan.
