Rating + 3 Sound problems

Pros: Great card, silent, does't run too hot, despite being fanless.

Cons: The sound device built into the video card (????) conflicted with the sound built into the motherboard. I tried absolutely everything short of re-installing Windows. I reinstalled audio and video drivers for the card, un-installed and re-installed drivers for built-in sound. Disabled and re-enabled sound via BIOS. Set my audio out to video card and then back to built-in audio via the Control Panel Sound thing. Eventually just bought a cheap sound card at Worst Buy. That worked.

Other Thoughts: I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe, which is a rather old motherboard, so maybe it's just a matter of the driver for the built-in sound not being written properly. However, I had the same problem in Ubuntu (I dual-boot) so maybe it's a BIOS/ACPI thing?

I never tried hooking up the HDMI from the video card to see if that audio was working. My speakers don't take HDMI. My TV does, but I was too lazy to move my computer over there just to see if a feature I didn't want to use worked. I just wanted to use plain ol' analog sound from the mobo.

So, it could be the card itself works fine. The audio for the video card works and it's just a problem with my motherboard. But, regardless, I bought a video card and got problems with my audio, was not expecting that... works great now though, playing L4D2 demo, much better than the 7600GT I upgraded from.

Rating + 5 Powerful card for noise haters

Pros: Fast - Completely Quiet - Well made

Cons: Absolutely none

Other Thoughts: As an IT Specialist for 25 years, I can recognize a truly special computer product. This is, without a doubt, the best video card I have ever installed/ owned (and I have installed and owned many).

I am averaging 37c idle and 49c load on demanding games/programs. To the reviewers who are having major heat issues with this thing it just doesn't add up or make sense. Are you using the card in a closed case? Do you have any case fans that are actually working? Pasively cooled high power video cards need air flow through a computer case. Most modern cases have this so I am at a loss regarding the stories of over heating issues told by some.

Also, the 4850 drivers are very mature and seem to work well with everything.

I was an Nvidia fan for many years and was drawn to ATI by the fact that they are still the only game in town as of right now if you want to be able to hookup to an HD monitor using an hdmi cable, with no other cables or adapters, and get digital sound over the hdmi.

Rating + 1 Quiet? Yes - Crossfire? Dunno

Pros: Fanless design on a card a bit shorter than I had antisipated (shorter than my 8800GTX). My side fan is keeping it (just one) at 60C at 90+ load running Folding@home.

Cons: I have two cards purchased at Newegg but neither one came with the Crossfire bridge so I'm waiting on Gigabyte support. Very disappointed.

Other Thoughts: My purpose was to build a quieter gaming rig leveraging my 120MM fans... still waiting.

Rating + 5 Great Card for the money!

Pros: Great price and performance for the money.
Silent and surprisingly good cooling performance for passive cooling. I managed the temp below 70c-75c all the time while fully running 3D.

Cons: I don't know why Gigabyte added VGA port?

Rating + 5 update on hd 4850

Pros: well after installing the full release version of win 7 ultimate the card now scores 7.3 in windows experience. honestly i believe that it would score higher but the q9650 scores 7.3 as well so i believe that its bottle necking. if this is the case then i have to admit that im quite impressed. buy this one it DOES NOT have over heating issues despite what some reviewers have noted. the card simply relies on airflow in your case to pull air through the cooling fins. having your case open as some have described in their reviews prevents this. your case came with a top or a side door for a reason. someone smarter than you put it there......... use it.

Cons: it doesn't cook breakfast.

Other Thoughts: buy it you'll love it.

Rating + 4 great card, runs cool and fast

Pros: I replaced a disappointing 8600GT with this card and I have been blown away by the performance difference and by how much quieter this card is. Runs great in a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop with the standard PSU. Was a little rough fitting it into the mini tower, but it's working great.

Cons: None.

Pros: Fast card. Plays Crisis on high settings (until reboot).

Didn't have a problem with any drivers.

Cons: Very very hot. Computer shuts off at 120 degrees Celsius. My average temp is 80 degrees.

Takes up two slots.

Other Thoughts: Going to buy some more fans for my computer case. I have the Centurion 590.

Rating + 5 nice card

Pros: card installed easily, no real issues upscaling of content is great. i had to download drivers because driver disk would not load on win 7 rc. but was no issue they were on gigabyte site.

Cons: only scored 6.0 on win experience

Other Thoughts: for a htpc card i would reccommend this to anyone. it runs quietly and thus far i have had absolutely no thermal issues. it is in a very small case aswell. thermaltake lanbox lite. with 3 60 mm fans 1 80 mm fan and a 120 cross flowing air through the case.

Rating + 5 Nice, Silent Cooled 4850

Pros: Silently cooled.

It's a 4850, 1gb of memory.

No problems with it for the 6 months or so that I've had it.

Cons: I wish I had a dual PCIE motherboard, so I could crossfire two of these.

Not sure how some prior reviewers are gettnig their card up to 110C, and having their comp lock up.... Only video card I had that happen with was my VooDoo 3500. It only had a heatsink, and when I built the computer i forgot to install ANY case fans. After installing an intake and out-ake 80mm fan, it ran just fine.

Other Thoughts: My setup involves an older motherboard. It only handles PCIE x16 v1. no 2.0 here. The card plays on it just fine. My motherboard is also slightly overclocked to run 1333FSB for the processor. Still, even with that, everything is fine on this older mobo with this video card.

Currently, according to ATI's overdrive temperature monitor, my card is idling at 44C. I've looked at it after playing games, and the highest I've seen it go may be 68C. Possibly 70C.

It's rapid to cool off, doesn't take long.

I house this in a Full tower case. I have Scythe fans, 80mm and 120mm. All are on fan controllers, and I run them at 650 rpm (They defualt at 800 or so).

I have 2 120mm pulling air into the case from the front, 1 120mm, and 2 80mm exausting on the rear. Even without the 80mm running, it cools fine with the 120 exhaust at 800 RPM

Rating + 3 Runs too hot without additional fans

Pros: Passive cooling if your case has A LOT of air flow.
Performs well on 1920x1200.
Drives dual monitors.

Cons: Runs too hot in standard set-up - need to ensure good airflow (or get a fan blowing air away from it - this defeats the purpose of a completely silent card)

Other Thoughts: Got this for its passive cooling capabilities. From the beginning the card ran about 70-80C while idling. 110+ if in use and would eventually lock up and crash the computer.

Ended up getting additional PCI slot fans to sit right next to it to make it usable.

Rating + 5 Great Card QUIET good overclock with fan

Pros: Quiet silent. HDMI output(with HDMI sound)
Overclocks great. Running 35'c idle 55'c Full load with 120mm side fan blowing on it.
Overclocked to 690mhz 1000mhz with artifacts and no crash I can push more but even stock speed plays all my games fine so turned back to stock speed.

Cons: Watch out for those fins. They are really sharp.
You really do need some kind of fan blowing on it.
It runs about 45;c load with out any fan blowing on it.

Other Thoughts: Planning to get another one when the price drops to around $50-60. I know it will take time but it will get there about in 1 year.
Wanted to get 4870 but dont think extra few fps is worth $50 more extra
I only paid $85shipped for this.

Rating + 5 Stable, quiet, cool

Pros: I'm currently using Windows Vista X64, and I bought this graphics card because I wanted a system that was totally quiet. I have had no problems with stability, but haven't really pushed this card very hard at all. From what I've seen this card actually keeps itself cold (idles around 41-42 degrees C) quite well in my Silverstone TJ-08, and I have no hesitation recommending it to anybody who wants a nice quiet graphics card. As I said before, I haven't pushed it, but for the purposes I bought it for, it's perfect. My last graphics card fan sounded like a jet engine and would idle at 55+ degrees C, this one is silent and idles 15 degrees cooler.

Cons: Probably depends on the air flow of your case more than other cards.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this. Quiet, stable, cool. Effective for what I need.

Rating + 5 Silent, capable gaming card

Pros: SILENT. Fanless heatsink does admirable job of dissipating heat. Runs games at stock 4850 speed without issue. Bargain at current prices. No driver issues when paired with a GA-EP45-UD3R Motherboard and an E8400 Core 2.

Cons: Requires ample airflow to maintain low temps, which in some cases could negate benefit of "silent" operation. I tried overclocking, but had poor results due to heat. Running two cards Crossfire mode would definitely warrant front and rear case fans.

Other Thoughts: I use this card in a single configuration inside a Sonata II case, which has only one fan, a rear 120mm. Although card temps easily hit 80C on hot days, I have had no problems playing lengthy sessions over past six months with games including Fallout 3 and Call of Duty World at War. This is not a good card for the hardcore, "performance at any cost" gamer. However, I think it is perfect for casual or enthusiast gamers like me who are willing to sacrifice top-end speed for quiet operation. Could serve also as a higher-end HTPC card. Very pleased with this product.

Rating + 3

Pros: Please realize that this review is not about the card itself, but about the problems faced while creating a system utilizing the card.
I was looking for a silent solution while building a HTPC system utilizing the following components:

SILVERSTONE LC13B-E ATX Media Center Case
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX Power Supply
Intel Core2 Q9550
Intel DP45SG 775 ATX Motherboard
CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
2 WD 320 GB hard drives

The HTPC is connected to a Samsung 46" HDTV.

I elected to only purchase one card to test compatibility with Windows 7 RC.

The product was well packaged and had a version of Ghost Recon as additional software that I haven't played yet. Also contains the Crossfire connector and an adapter for two molex connectors to connect to the 6 pin connector on the card (I needed need it).

Cons: While the driver for Windows 7 RC worked fine for the desktop monitor (which was automatically loaded when I installed the RC), it didn't work well at the highest resolution (1920x1080) for the HDTV as I kept getting the 'mode cannot be displayed' error on the television set. I've tried all matters of trying to get it to work (updating drivers, tweaking settings, rolling back drivers, research, etc.), but after exhaustive troubleshooting, I couldn't figure out if it was a Windows 7 issue, or a driver issue. Gigabyte couldn't offer much support either.
I decided to install Windows XP Pro and everything worked fine as I can now utilize the proper resolution on the television.

Other Thoughts: While I won't be able to utilize DirectX 10.1 until I upgrade to either Vista (yuck) or Windows 7, I think I'm going to wait until Windows 7 releases an update to fix the issue with display settings for the Samsung TVs. There appears to be a fault with timing issues which is why 1920x1080 mode is not supported, but 1280x1024 is supported (unfortunately, the resolution doesn't fit a widescreen tv).
As far as card fit. The card was almost as long as the ATX board was and was a tight fit to get in. The end of the was snug against the central cage which was suppose to house the hard drives (which were moved to another location). You might be able to put SSD or 2.5 inch drives in the central cage, but a 3.5 drive sticks too far out and would not allow the installation of this video card.

Overall, I like the system I've built, but need to work on the fans that were included to quiet the system down even further.

Pros: Silence is golden...well it's true here. These cards rock. They idle at 41c in crossfire in my antec 900. The picture on my 27" dell is awesome.

Cons: You can't leave the case open while working. These need constant airflow to keep cool.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have good airflow.

Rating + 5 On Time

Pros: Still have yet to test the product. However the corporation is pretty honest about their products within this day and age. I asked a question to their marketing team about their packaging and they was nice enough to send me a picture of how the contents should look like before I even opened the boxes. If you have ever messed up during the upgrade of the BIOS, then you would understand the value of the motherboard. Pound for pound Gigabyte is selling some pretty good stuff!

Cons: So I received the product in a bundle shipment and noticed right away that the product was not sealed. It is nothing personal against Newegg but I had to check with Gigabyte to see if their products were leaving the distribution center as I received it. With so much money being invested into these products, you would think someone would decide to seal both ends of the product.
Then again why would you waste the labor and resources? They just pass down the savings to us. Thank you!

Other Thoughts: For my next one can you build in the CPU processor and the fan on the motherboard? Oh and did you see the size of the graphics card? I have been using some pretty old graphic cards because I have never purchased one a third of the size of the motherboard. Then again technology has come a long way within the past 15 years.

Rating + 4 Works, silent

Pros: Plays any game currently around on high/highest settings
Silent - no more annoying small fan whine that comes with so many gfx cards

Cons: Huge. Really huge. Make sure your case has space
Runs pretty hot - I'm seeing 35-60c depending on activity
Needs a really well ventilated case

Other Thoughts: Unless you have well laid out case with plenty of fans don't buy this. If you know what you are doing then this is a good and silent card that will last out 2009 ready for the new gfx cards at the end of the year.

Rating + 1 Very disappointed - not recommend.

Pros: Looks good on paper. Built-in HDMI port.

Cons: I was really looking forward to enjoying this card. But right out of the box, it didn't get along with my HDTV for some reason - garbled screens at every bootup, jerky playback, multi-monitor difficulties, blah, blah, blah.
Had a roomful of guests over the weekend to watch a hi-def movie and it was unwatchable. Tried and tried every different setting, used different drivers, different playback software, XP 32-bit and 64-bit, read forums from all over the web - nothing! Can't justify spending anymore time tweaking with it.

Other Thoughts: I've RMA'd, we'll see what happens. For the benefit of doubt - maybe this is actually a defective unit. Regardless, I kinda knew I should've stuck with Nvidia, but wanted to be adventurous and try something different. Oh well. I reinstalled my 8600GTS and all is right with the world!

Rating + 5 Same as Nvida 9600GT?

Pros: Haven't received it yet.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: While shopping for a new video card this weekend, I couldn't help but notice how closely the specs, ports, and price for this card matched the GIGABYTE GV-N96TSL-1GI. If they're truly corporate twins (like Dodge and Chryser), the performance should be the same right? I got this Radeon because reviews around the web were good and it had a rebate.
Most comparisons I found were between the Radeon 4800 series and the GTX 260/270. That led me to conclude that the Geforce 9600 must be "old news" if it's not even mentioned as a competitor to this card - regardless of the similiar specs and appearance, right?

Rating + 4 Actually it need some fan

Pros: Since I have spent a lot of time around the card to cool down, reduce noise , and OC, so like to share my experience more.

Cons: Need fan.

Other Thoughts: As I said before, my old HR-03 used but I added a dedicated fan on it instead of sharing cpu fan to improve noise level and cool GPU down a little more. I also used some old small heatsink on the memory and applied some air around it. This improves memeory clocking drastically. The auto tune in the catalyst center suggests that GPU=755MHz and memory=1140MHz. At this OC clocking of running 3DMARK06 @1920x1200 with AA=8 for 1hr, GPU=53c. Default setting of 3DMARK06 SM2.0=5880 SM3.0=7010 which similar to gtx260(192) and yet much quieter. Now I can play game w/o suffering from noise. The next step will be how to
cut down my gtx 285 noise w/o raise its temperature(its fan need to be 60% in order to keep temperature below 60c's, in p182 or p183).

Rating + 4 Actually it need some fan

Pros: It provides a barebone to be modified to be a real fanless good game card.

Cons: WIthout a fan blowing to the heatsink directly, its temperature goes way too high when playing a game.

Other Thoughts: The card turns out to be the best game card I have owned in the combination of performance, temperature, and quietness. I have 8800gtx, gtx260, and gtx285. They are all too noisy to me when playing a game, like COH. For example, the fan need to be around 60% in gtx 285 to keep the temperature around 60s. This HD4850 seems fast enough and quiet.
However, without a fan blowing to its heatsink directly, its temperature quickly moves to 90c and more. Then I found mine old HR-03 made by Thermalright for ATI 1950 fit perfectly and has better built quality. I installed the HR-03 heatsink on the back so the CPU fan, (old one too, it looks like a snail made by cooler master. I tend to reuse old heat sink. Why not), so its air pressure could applied to HR-03 as well.
The result is follwoing and very satisfied.
Idle: 48c, heavily loaded: 58c. All the fans in the case run below 1000 RPM except CPU's which is small and varies from 1000 to 1700 RPM.

Rating + 1 QC Issues?

Pros: the concept is nice.

Cons: simply did not work. The first card had 75 degree idle temps, 108 load, and then my system would freeze. After the RMA, got a second card. temps were fine, if I could get the system to boot. Lots of freezes and crashes immediately after putting the card in.

Other Thoughts: Have an Antec P182, 4 fans, one blowing directly on the card. Nice Corsair PSU. No other card has given me this kind of trouble. Have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L mobo. Unclear why this card had so many issues. Moving on to somethine else.

Rating + 5 Great Video Card

Pros: Runs at about 65 to 75 degrees Celsius usually, which from what I've heard is a good temp for a 1GB video card. Games look awesome on it. Catalyst Control Center works great and is SWEET. Warhammer Online is one of the games I play most and it has no antialiasing option(and few other graphics boosting options) so I was pleased to see that I could force many graphics settings using Catalyst, including 8X antialiasing.

Cons: A couple of minor problems I had with it.

When playing The Sims 3 it got up to about 103 degrees Celsius one time, but this was easily reduced by opening Catalyst and manually turning the fan speed up to 100% for about ten or fifteen minutes. I think that The Sims 3 pushes your video card pretty hard when you're doing the "super speed" all the time to go through the menial tasks of the day quicker.

I'll start this with saying I am new to overclocking anything, and just wanted to try it out to see how it would work. When I tried overclocking the card(I did it turning the speed up in small increments, I'd read in a guide this was a good idea) I couldn't get any good results, even when only pushing it a little bit harder than stock settings I got a message on the Catalyst Control Center saying something about the card exceeding some limit(it was not temp) so I reset it to it's default. Still works great though, and like I said I'm a newbie when it comes to overclocking.

Other Thoughts: System Build:
-Raidmax Smilodon Case with one 120mm fan removed(touched my video card, should be able to modify it to fit)
-This CPU
-4GB 1066Mhz Gskill RAM
-Gigabyte 1GB Radeon 4850 Graphics Card
-Western Digital Caviar 500GB SATA 3.0 HD
-Sigma Monster 650W Power Supply

Get some skipping at times when there is a lot of objects on the screen(only seen this in Saints Row 2 on full settings and Warhammer Online in a situation with more than 40 or 50 people on screen) but I think when I upgrade to 8GB of RAM it will probably reduce this.

Rating + 2 Ran too hot to use for more than 10 minutes

Pros: The card was a huge upgrade from my GeForce 7900gtx. It installed easily and ran everything I threw at it with full detail 3x faster than my previous card. The card Ran great once I had taken the side panel off my computer and pointed a desk fan at the card, but that didn't seem very sustainable.

Cons: It could only run those games for between 5-10 minutes, it would then cause my system to actually turn off without a warning. No game crash, no artifacts to warn me of that the card too hot, just off. Either the card was doing it directly, or it was causing any number of other components to overheat with it's 95-100C temps at load. As I write this it runs idle at 72C with the case panel off.

Other Thoughts: Other reviews here don't seem to have these problems, but that may be in part to having a more robust cooling system in their case. I returned it with the reasoning that if I had to add an extra fan (or 2) to my case to get this to work it negates the point of a fanless "silent" card. I returned it and bought a fan-cooled ASUS Geforce 250 for the same price.

Rating + 5 GREAT VC

Pros: Works great, killed Fallout 3 on all ultra high settings, no hic ups, no slow down, even in heavy gaming action.

Also this VC cures the heating problem of the 4850s, by having multi core cooling, aka no fans.

This VC runs at 35 degrees Cecilius during heavy gaming and I don't even have a fan directly blowing on it

Left the computer on all day and night and it has no problems

Cons: None, why pay more when there aren't any games that need more power to play, heck the 4850 is almost overkill, lol

Pros: Its quiet. Silent actually because it has no fan. I've played quite a few games on this, COD5, COD4, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Bioshock, Mirrors Edge...etc...all which ran great, never really had any lag or anything.

Cons: It does get hot, I have a 250mm side fan blowing on it, and under full load playing Crysis, it reached its all time highest temp of 79c...which i thought was pretty high. It idles at 55c, and is usually at 65c or so while playing most games.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't have this card without a fan blowing on it. I'm actually considering getting this --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118037 or similar item to keep it cool.

Rating + 2 So HOT the computer shuts down

Pros: quiet. can be cross fired. only one power cable needed (not 2).

Cons: I don't mind that the card runs @ 60 C at idle, but I am not an overclocker and expected this card to work playing games without extra cooling. my card gets up to 110 C before the computer flat out turns off (playing WOW in windowed mode cranked up to high graphics).

Other Thoughts: What's the point of having this card with the large heat synch but it can't keep the card cool enough without external cooling w/o the computer shutting off.

Rating + 4 Pretty Solid Card

Pros: Install went smoothly, really smoother than the rest of the install for sure.
Passive heatsink works great, I have a couple fans pointing at this thing and I haven't seen it over 60C including the OCing I have done with it.
ATI catalyst system works well to OC the card and then test the settings.

15k 3dMarks 06 with my setup and a lil OC was 13k sans OC, has run everything I have thrown at it pretty well on highish settings.

Cons: The Gigabyte software is giving me trouble, so I've given up on it for now. The Gamer Hud program gives an error on starting. The @Bios flashing software does not load and an ATI utility it invokes goes rogue and maxed out one of my cores. I couldn't even kill it in the process viewer... I'm betting they will resolve this though, it is a new product.

Other Thoughts: It is a large card, it was a little bit tight for me to get the power connector at the end, but it fit. I have a NZXT Zero 2 Full ATX (which I have to recommend).

I have overclocked the card to 700Mhz Core 1140Mhz Memory(2x = 2280) with the PCIE Bus at 133Mhz (not sure the multiplier). I had the memory Hz higher, but there were artifacts. I bet I could push it more with more tweaks and maybe some additional voltage.

Full system specs:
AMD Phenom X4 955 Running at 3.6Ghz
GIGABYTE GA-MA790FXT-UD5P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790FX (FLASH THE BIOS)
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 running at 1333Hz

Rating + 2 Not as good as I expect

Pros: 1GB and 256mem-interface... sounds good..should handle some moderate rendering and shader effects.

Cons: I ran this card on a mmo game Lineage-II... the card was losing memory on me. I turned on the HDR Rendering and 3 shader effects (which can be handled by EVGA 7950 card - 512B and 256 mem-interface, but kinda laggy) and the card start to run slow and completely lost graphic. Then I reloaded game and turned on 2 shader effect and still the same... Until I have it set to 1 shader effect, but that completely defeated the purpose of buying this card.

Other Thoughts: I would return this card, but not worth the trouble so I swap out this card and put it on my gf's Dell ^__^ for movies.

Pros: Silent yet runs cool, much cooler than the HD2600XT it replaced. I do have a 120 mm fan 5 volted, blowing in directly from the outside 4" away though. HDMI out, no adapter needed, my case already sticks out the back of my entertainment center and an adapter would make it that much farther. Video and audio with one cable.

Cons: Quite large, buggy drivers. Expensive for a 4850. The drivers I ended up using to make the sound from the HDMI were the ones from Realtek site for rear HD output, the ATI one didn't produce any sound for me. The video driver was right from ATI. The ones on the disk were old and the ones from Gigabyte site were even older. But now I can't get the Catalyst Control Center to load and every time I reboot it says new hardware found Microsoft UAA Bus Driver. I don't want to mess with that because sound and video work great, so I'll live with that for now.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for an HTPC mainly watching instant NetFlix and games like GTR2, Live For Speed, which run fine @ 1920 x 1080 with everything max. rarely drops below 60 fps. I have this in an Apevia case with a full size ATX board and size is an issue. I got it to fit but if you're wondering about size, I hope I can help. It takes up two slots. It's 9 3/8" from the L bracket to the end of the card and 4 7/8" from the top of the motherboard to the top of the card when installed. So the cooling fins stick up 3/8" above the L bracket. Don't forget to add for the 6 pin plug which would make it 9 7/8" front to back plus the amount to bend the wires 90 degrees if necessary. If I site down from the top, the back of the 6 pin plug is directly even with the back edge of the motherboard. I ended up taking my case apart and was able to move the PSU forward a little, so now it fits fine.

Rating + 5 GV-R485MC-1GI (discontinued 'H' version) addendum . . .

Pros: Card is still running perfectly, driving a PAIR of HP LP2475W monitors at their native 1920x1200 resolution. Idle temps in a Lian Li PC-V1000Z case are in the 35 degree C range with the Lian Li fan control on its LOW setting. Temps top out at about 55 C under load -- driving BOTH monitors.

Cons: None other than this card is BIG and HEAVY.

Other Thoughts: Because this card is totally passively cooled, and because this card is designed around a high-powered GPU with massive RAM, its operational temperature is absolutely dependent on excellent case cooling and good air flow. With the case cover OPEN, this card will fry eggs. With poor air flow, it runs hot. Treat it well and it delivers SILENTLY !!!

Note: I have the discontinued 'H' version of this board.

Rating + 5 This card really screams!

Pros: Passively cooled, so it is very quiet. Overclockable on-the-fly with the included "Gamer HUD" utility. Through that, you can tweak the voltage, the frequency of the GPU, and the frequency of the on-board DDR3 memory. You can also monitor the temerature and usage in real-time through this utility.

Excellent!

Cons: The "Gamer HUD" utility is unfortunately a little clumsy. It does what it is supposed to do (except the "Power Mode" toggle between "default" and "turbo" seems to be inoperable), but comes with virtually no instruction. So be careful not to fry your card!

You will need to plan your case design a bit, since the card will need some airflow to keep from overheating (but that is just good practice anyway). With my case open, it got up to 80 C - yikes! Closed it up, and the minimal airflow brought it down to about 65 C when running SC with full graphics. Speeding up the rear case fan brought it down another 5-10C, but it was a little loud.

Other Thoughts: Over-all, I'm very happy with this card. Scored a 5.9 on Vista's graphics test tool. It's a tight fit in my case, but has just enough room and doesn't get too much in the way.

I bought it because Supreme Commander was getting a little laggy in big battle scenes - this fixed that problem! Runs on 1920x1200 with every visual goody enable without a problem in that game. Now that I can play them, I'll be looking at getting more visually stunning games.

Computer specs to note:
Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 CPU
OCZ 4GB PC2 6400 Memory
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R Motherboard
Antec Solo ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (2 of: Antec TriCool 92mm DBB Case Fan in front; 1 of: default 120 mm fan in rear; all on minimum fan settings)
Card settings on my setup:
1920x1200 resolution
640 MHz GPU
960 MHz Memory speed
1.19V on GPU

Rating + 4 great card

Pros: Well, most of the people that is going to buy this card is for the passive cooling, wich i might say that does a great job. i Can OC this card to 720/1100, and it runs stable , idles at 40C and 60ish C on load, wich i leaves space for more OC, i would consider 70c the temp cap, so nothing weird happens :P, iam consedering getting a 2nd one, it would problably be more expensive then a 4850x2 for example, but the quite in the room, pays off =) and in the reviews i saw the difference in terms off performance compared to the 4850x2 are minimal

Cons: none, might be a bit long for the mid-range pc cases , i would recommend a full size tower case, for max airflow and performance ( so you can OC more )

Rating + 5 It's a slam dunk

Pros: Any HD4850 is going to be a great performer.
The passive heat sink is great. My case is inverted and doesn't have the greatest air flow over the cards, which are near the top: Even still, I am idling at 58, and peak temp I've seen during load is a not-too-shabby and of course completely silent 73 C.
Assuming the rebate gets paid, it's a great price, considering that a comparable heatsink could put you quite a bit over the standard MSRP for a 4850.
Being at 1G of video ram instead of the standard 512M just sweetens the deal.

Cons: Rebates rebates rebates. Why does this industry have to be plagued with this problem? My fingers are crossed.

Other Thoughts: I may get the temps a bit lower, similar to what others have reported, if I can redirect some of the air in this case or get more negative pressure, but there's no reason to expect problems from these temps.

Pros: Can't complain about their video cards

Cons: No mail in rebate received after 4 months. I didn't get email responses when I emailed them. I would reconsider any rebate offers from this manufacturer. They probably have financial trouble.

Rating + 5 Amazing Card

Pros: This card is amazing. Granted I am upgrading from an Nvidia 7300. The card is fast and provides more than enough power to give gaming a whole new look. Previously, trying to play F.E.A.R 2 was awful. It was choppy and looked really poor. Now it looks amazing.
The HDMI output is great. I have a dual view setup right now, with the DVI to my monitor and the HDMI going to my HDTV. Works flawlessly.
Of course the card is silent given the lack of a fan. For a few years now I only buy video cards without fans. I found that the fans would break and make noise or just be noisy by themselves.

Cons: Like others have said, the card is quite large. I have an Antec 900 case and it stretches from one end all the way to the hard drives. It leaves me about 3/4" in clearance for my cables to get through. Not a crisis, just a warning.
Not really a negative but just something to realize: If you plan on setting up a system similiar to mine with the an HDTV via HDMI and monitor via DVI be forwarned that in Vista you will have to constantly switch the default audio back and forth between HDMI and stereo. Kind of a pain.

Other Thoughts: Amazing card, so glad I upgraded. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Actually considering buying another one for the price to get crossfire going.

Rating + 2 A disapointment

Pros: No temperature problem, good color a briteness.

Cons: Too large a board, had to remove half the computer just to get it into the case, power wire are bent 90 degrees to fit behind the hard drives. My 8600 GLS model ran hotter but would drive 720p on my 58" projection TV, this card had to be reduced to 480p.

Other Thoughts: Would return for poor performance but it is a non-refundable item.

Rating + 5 Great card for HTPC

Pros: OUTSTANDING for HTPC. QUIET and COOL in my Silverstone case. This card believe it or not has DRASTICALLY reduced the heat in my case overall. Plays blu-ray flawlessly. Was easy to get the right resolution for my hdtv. boxed well with power adapters, dvi adaptor. Higher cost for an htpc card, but I believe in buying big to have it last a long time. HUGE difference in noise since there is no fan.

Cons: HUGE card, really make sure your case can handle it. I have a slim htpc case, it BARELY fit. Takes up two slots, but this is normal now I believe.

If you run sound over hdmi, you cannot use your sound card.

Other Thoughts: Very good card for the money I believe, we had some DPI issues that we worked out in Vista. We decided to run off our dvi output so we could still use our ht omega striker we have running our surround sound. If you are an htpc owner looking for a new card, I would recommend this. I know that there are less expensive cards out there, but the impact it has had on my system has been AWESOME.

Rating + 5 Excellent Quiet Card

Pros: Fanless and quiet. Superb cooling. 1Gb ram for large textures and AA. This is particularly useful on most titles starting @ 1920x. For very demanding titles 1680x. Well built and a handsome card.

I am running two of these in Crossfire in a TJ10 case. The top card is idle/load 31c/55c, the bottom card is 47c/70c. Obviously, the close proximity of the top card to the bottom is heating it up.

One of these would be a great card for 1680x with moderate filtering. It would also make a darn good addition to a HTPC.

If you're tired of cards with fans that whine at idle or howl at load, give this card a whirl.

Wonderful product.

Cons: This is more of a warning. Being as it's a fanless card, good airflow is required in your case for this product to excel. They are two slot cards so users with very close PCI-e 16x slots would not be able to, or want to put them in Crossfire. If they were in a case with excellent cooling like the Cooler Master HAF I would retract that last statement.

Other Thoughts: As I noted, if you want a truly quiet card and play 1920x with filtering active try two of these in something like a Cooler Master HAF.

Rating + 5 great

Pros: wow, they really did some magic with these heat sinks. Card idles at 40c at a 74F room temp. After hours of play of far cry it only gets up to 66c.

Completely quite!

Cons: they don't make it in the 4870

Other Thoughts: if you want a quite top of the line pretty much fastest video card available today then get it.

I imagine if you where to mount fans to this the overclock potential would be huge. I plan to do no such thing because I purchased it for the fact that it has not fans but if over clocking is your thing then you may want to mod this puppy up.

Rating + 5 Best video card I've owned

Pros: -Low power requirements.
-Running 100% stable when overclocked to 650/1000.
-In a stock Antec 300 with the two standard cooling fans at their lowest setting and no other form of cooling I get an amazing 37C idle and 60C load (playing Grid maxed for an hour). Room temp is 70F. In a case with negative pressure this card really shines.
-HDMI integrated
-Somehow idles 13C cooler than my 4850 IceQ4 that I replaced.

Cons: Absolutely none! I'm very happy with my purchase. Users with a smaller case or little/no negative pressure will have notably higher temps.

Other Thoughts: Outstanding performance/price ratio of the 4850 is made even better by this card. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

Rating + 5 Powerful & QUIET !!!

Pros: This is the exact same video card as GV-R485MC-1GH (NE# N82E16814125237) except that it has VGA and HDMI ports on its back plane bracket instead of the second DVI port. It's totally quiet with a fanless, passive cooler that works really well in a closed case with good air flow. WARNING: It will NOT cool properly in an open case.

Cons: None that I can think of except that for my own use, I liked the original version better -- two DVI connections. This version has one each DVI, HDMI and VGA on its back plane bracket.

Other Thoughts: Great card. The most powerful fanless, passively-cooled video card currently on the market. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: Performance, features, quality built, silent since there is no fan. Easy to overclock.

Cons: Extremely big and heavy card. Installed on mATX board. Almost as long as the entire length of my board. Runs warm due to no fan. The card runs around 65c-75c on average with good ventilation.
