Update to previous review
Pros: Overclocking. I'll let nvclock -i do the talking.
boot@boot:~$ nvclock -i -- General info -- Card: nVidia Geforce 8400GS Architecture: G98 A2 PCI id: 0x6e4 GPU clock: 783.000 MHz Bustype: PCI-Express
-- Shader info -- Clock: 1944.000 MHz Stream units: 16 (1b) ROP units: 4 (1b) -- Memory info -- Amount: 512 MB Type: 128 bit DDR2 Clock: 555.428 MHz
-- PCI-Express info -- Current Rate: 1X Maximum rate: 16X
-- Sensor info -- Sensor: GPU Internal Sensor GPU temperature: 39C
-- VideoBios information -- Version: 62.98.20.00.51 Signon message: PNY Verto GeForce 8400 GS PCI Performance level 0: gpu 567MHz/shader 1400MHz/memory 333MHz/100%
I've never seen such a cheap card (on a PCI bus, no less) overclock so well. The beast runs Cube 2 maxed out at 1920 x 1440, getting a whopping 32 FPS.
Cons: PCI. If the card was PCI-e or even AGP, it would be infinitely better.
Other Thoughts: Nvidia driver 185.18.36 running kernel 2.6.31, xorg version 11.0 Other specs are: Intel Pentium IV @ 2.66 GHz 1 GB DDR 400 (2x512 MB)

great card
Pros: easy to install, no need for an external power supply
Cons: none that I can think of
Other Thoughts: I am not a high performance gamer so if you are looking for a gpu that will do that I would look elsewhere.

so far so good
Pros: i've only had this for a week but so far it runs on my great. i bought it for dxva to watch 1080p stuff on my tv. it does the job flawlessly on a toaster for the price of a toast.
Cons: i can't think of anything so far.
Other Thoughts: the computer its running on is an old dell from 2002 with a celeron 2.4ghz and 512 mb of ram. the computer could barely play non hd tv rips but now with dxva support via this card, i can enjoy 1080p rips on a huge screen with smooth playback.

Good Buy
Pros: bought this guy to give more life and fuctionality to a 2006 Dell at my office. Bought it primarily to run dual monitors and it has served its purpose well. The graphics look crisp and the installation was really quick and easy assuming you have some understanding of how a computer functions.
Fan provides good cooling and isnt even audible above the primary cooling fan of the CPU itself.
Overall a good purchase for the price and would recommend it.
Cons: none.
Other Thoughts: Thanks Newegg!

Cheap card that works
Pros: Cheap Has W7 drivers Sped up my W7 box to a useable level.
Cons: Nothing wrong with this one.
Other Thoughts: Also worked flawlessly under linux on an old Dell and IBM desktop.

DOA
Pros: Got it for a third monitor.
Cons: DOA. Would not let computer turn off after shutdown. Would just restart. Seems to be a consistent problem. Ended up getting a 9400gt, which is probably a bit faster, but cost almost 50% more. Worth it, though.
Other Thoughts: Should have RMA'ed it right after I installed it. It turned the computer on when I popped in the card.

Nice card
Pros: Purchased to upgrade an old desktop. Fits very nicely in my small case. Easy to install. Software is user-friendly. Graphics are great considering how ancient my mobo and cpu are.
Cons: None.

Works but not well in my computer
Pros: It does work, does have Vista and Windows 7 driver available, OK for regular web surfing, email etc. Low cost.
Cons: When taxed with full motion video and changing settings at the same time such as going full screen it sometimes goes black and I get a message that it stopped responding and recovered. Has caused computer to reboot when it totally shuts down during full motion video.
Other Thoughts: Installed in older computer that had AGP but few AGP cards with Windows 7 drivers are available and none that I tried would work at all , got black screen , no post. For my application in this dual proocessor high dollar workstation this card is not satisfactory even for low res. type videos.

Great card
Pros: Bought this to give new life to an old computer. I can max most Source games with it (though really texture quality is all I need on high, the 512 MB VRAM makes it perfect for this).
Runs really cool. (44 C, compared to the 56 C my 9800GT idles at)
Not much else, but what else does it need to do?
Shipped fast, I received it only two days after I ordered.
Cons: This is a user specific con, but when I boot into Windows XP, the chipset driver (it's a Dell, I need that for sound.) conflicts with the video driver and causes a BSoD. It's not too bad since I'm primarily a Linux user, but it's still enough to knock off an egg.
It also seems to get dusty quick.
Other Thoughts: Despite what the review header says, I did buy this from Newegg. I used a different account to order, since a friend offered to pay for it (it was a Christmas gift, and a pretty good one at that).
I'll be buying a cheapo sound card soon, maybe it will relieve me of my audio issues in Windows.
System specifications: Dell Dimension 2400 Intel Pentium IV 2.66 GHz 1 GB DDR 400 And my newly purchased 8400 GS.

I Like It!
Pros: Runs Aero in Windows 7.
Cons: The video card fan makes a little noise now when I turn on the computer but only for a few seconds and then it's quiet.
Other Thoughts: I bought this for an old Dell Dimension 2400 with 2GB of RAM so I could get Aero working in Windows 7. Once I disabled the on board graphics Aero turned on. Graphics rating went from a 1.0 to a 2.1 and gaming graphics is now at 3.2.

Very decent PCI card, great for VDPAU
Pros: - Low profile card with low-profile brackets provided (great if you have a small case like mine) - VDPAU works perfect on Ubuntu Karmic - 1080p videos run with full framerates and no jitter with CPU around 10% in XBMC - I can finally use the Boxee interface without freezes or crashes - It runs fine on my 150W PSU. (I know, I know - not recommended, but I don't think it'd pull100W by itself since the rest of my system takes less than 40W combined). - No extra power connection needed - just plug into the PCI port and you're good to go.
Cons: - Added noise to my rig because of the fan (but not too much noise, no high-pitched noises like other graphics card fans) - My computer has "sleep" problems and can't "shut down" if I issue the command from the OS. It reboots automatically immediately after it shuts down. I have to physically press the power button to turn it off. "Sleep" or "Suspend" does not work - it sleeps, and immediately wakes back up. Possibly a driver issue? (I run nvidia 190 drivers on this) - Runs hot. Temperature averages around 74C (not F), and my place is cold.
Other Thoughts: I got this card for my Atom330 linux machine which I ultimately would like to convert to an HTPC. I purchased this since this seemed to be a popular choice for 1080p decoding and now I know it works perfect for that purpose. I also have a small case and it only had one spare slot, which was PCI (Foxconn R10-S4 barebone system). Was the cheapest at Newegg.
The shipping process took way too long, the most I've had to wait. It took a total of 10 days for me to get it (I used to get stuff in 2 days from NewEgg).
My HTPC dreams have to wait because of the sleep/shutdown issues mentioned in the "cons". I need it to sleep when not in use and not have to walk up behind the TV and hit the power button to shut it down.

Great PCI Card
Pros: PCI Slot =), so if you only have 1 x16 slot, this is a great add on card
Cons: It's PCI =(. So, graphics aren't as smooth as they could be, but, again, you generally wouldn't be using it for anything serious
Other Thoughts: I had this installed in a Athlon 64 x2 [939] with 4GB PC3200 RAM and Windows 7. Needless to say, take my 'con' with a grain of salt.

Works quite well for what it is
Pros: ~Easy to install on a Dell Dimension 3000. Installed video controller from included CD. Then downloaded the latest drivers straight form NVidia ~Allows Xbox Media Center to run quite well on old hardware. (P4 3ghz; 1 gig ram) ~Terrific calibration wizard. Easy to use, and my image quality has never been better.
Cons: ~Seem to see some aliasing during XBMC playback. It may have been the rip; I've only watched one movie off of it, so I'm withholding judgment until later. Further, this is over VGA; I expect DVI output will be better. This will be hooked up to a Samsung LN40B550 as soon as the TV arrives.
Other Thoughts: Overall, a good purchase. It gave new life to an old machine that was really sitting there and doing nothing. Now, we've got the Xbox Media Center up and running (on a 4 or 5 year old Dell Dimension 3000; P4; 1gig ram) without any problems. Connecting this video card to a Samsung LN40B550 w/ a DVI to HDMI cable should produce pretty great results on a very reasonable budget. I'll post again if results are not what I expected (for better or worse)...

Very nice
Pros: Runs Windows 7 on an older machine just fine, including running a monitor on DVI and another on the VGA plug.
Cons: I bought a second one of these so I can run each monitor on its own graphics card. They don't want to play together, but I suspect it's the motherboard that's at fault, not the cards. I'm not a hard-core gamer, Guild Wars is about as intense as I get, and this card works great for it!
Other Thoughts: Newegg has super fast shipping. I received the cards about 32 hours after I ordered them. Every time I order from newegg they're always very fast.

Pros: It works. Made my parents computer run like a computer should. Moderate gaming is now a possibility. A must have for any computer with integrated graphics(which should be made illegal)
Cons: GPU fan seems too small for the job. Its PCI so dont expect crazy graphics and intense gaming.
Other Thoughts: Dell recommended this exact card as an upgrade for my dimension(I think) 3000. And the card specifically states a 300W PSU is required, but the computer has only a 250W. So I honestly expect the card to die in the near future. Thanks for your product knowlege dell.

Seems to have messed up my XP
Pros: Am still looking for pros since I haven't had a chance to really use it per se....if anyone can help, please e-mail me!
Cons: I installed this card on a an HP dx2000 system - Intel Pentium 4 2.80GHz with 1 GB RAM and Integrated Intel Extreme Graphics. The installation was easy - pop it in, install drivers using accompanying CD; plugged in VGA monitor (came with my old Compaq presario) into the DVI port using the DVI to VGA connector. Here are the problems:1. system boots VERY slowly (Windows XP). 2. Just cannot shut it down...each time I choose shut down, it goes through the cycle and IMMEDIATEKT reboots. The only way I can get it to power off is to use the off switch on my electrical outlet box. The button on the computer does NOTHING. I'm inclined to return this if I can't resolve it in the next few days. Any help will be appreciated. I have gone through the usual suggestions of reinstalling windows etc. Nothing works.

8400 GS PCI Yes Please
Pros: I upgraded from an outdated FX5200 PCI and I am more than pleased with this very affordable graphics card. I can now run my MMO's with max texture settings and very little input lag.
Cons: No S video
Other Thoughts: Who needs S Video anyway just buy a larger monitor.

Wonderful little card. :D
Pros: This card is great!!! I finally bought a TV to plug into my computer, but since i already had 2 monitors, i needed a new graphics card or get a 5000 series ATI card and use the eyefinity graphic thing. But i chose the cheaper route and bought this PCI card to go along with my 8800gt on the same board.
It worked exactly how i hoped it would, powered down, inserted card, changed my 17in monitor over from the 8800gt to the 8400gs and powered on. After installing the device drivers and setting it to native resolution, a quick reboot and my computer was back up with 2 monitors running on separate cards, waiting for the arrival of the HDTV.
A great reason to choose this over a 5400fx (whatever they call it) is that it uses the same drivers as all nvidia drivers for PCI x16 from the 6200 gpu and up. And it has direct X10 support. Just to keep things in the same ball park, instead of settling with 2 different kinds of technology.
Cons: Idk...wish the dvi to vga adapter was a dvi to hdmi one. Had to buy that adapter separately for my HDTV. But that is not a con. Just inconvenient for a very small selection of people.
After i bought this they jacked the price up 10 bucks the very next day.. Must of gotten lucky. :D
(Quick thing, if your doing something similar with dual monitors to what im doing with adding this card to a rig with another card in there already, after you install it, your computer might not see your other monitor. Its OK. Just let it install the drivers, reset native resolution and reboot the computer.)
Other Thoughts: I took a leap of faith and decided to see if i could save some money. My main fears with the card was if it would not function with the motherboard at all, and not play nicely with the other graphics card. But my fears were settled. It works perfectly.
Recommended to all that have slot constraints or want to add some more monitors to their rig with another GPU already plugged into the motherboard.

Better than intergrated
Pros: Better than intergrated graphics, and dual monitor support.
Cons: none that I have found so far
Other Thoughts: I put this card in an old P4 machine with intergrated graphics. It is a marked improvement but don't expect to play newer games with all of the effects turned on.

Windows 7 Media Center
Pros: Bought this to put in an old HP SFF Pentium 4 desktop that I use as my Media Center PC. 3.0 Ghz P4, 2 GB RAM, Hauppauge HVR-1250, Windows 7. This card plays all the HD TV and videos FLAWLESSLY. Even runs Aero without a hitch.
Got the old PCI standard on NewEgg where none of the local shops carry this from factor.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I love NewEgg!

Inexpensive Replacement
Pros: - Inexpensive - Excellent picture quality (with an older 19" Viewsonic LED display) - Driver upgrades direct download fron Nvidia - Very good DVD playback performance - Significant drop in CPU usage with 512MB dedicated memory
Cons: - Supplied CD driver would install, then disappear on restart, manual installation with a download from Nvidia in SAFE mode worked without problems (Windows Vista).
Other Thoughts: This was an inexpensive replacement for a failed OEM graphics card. For under $50 it does what I need it to do on my wife's Dell Optiplex desktop. She doesn't play video games so frame rates and other benchmarks weren't important. It works fine for video playback, photo editing and home ofice tasks.

Great Card and Great Customer Service
Pros: Great card did exactly what I thought it would worked right out the box. quiet, completely forgot it was a fan on it.
Cons: none for now....
Other Thoughts: I brought this card in hopes of being able to run windows 7. Ran into issues thinking it was the card contacted the PNY website customer service via email and was contacted immediately which was a surprise. The customer service rep helped my figure out that it was actually my motherboard and not the video card that was having issues, even directed me to the site to update my chip-set. This is my first PNY product and thanks to this pleasant experience it will not be my last, also the reason I gave it five eggs

Don't buy if you have SIS embedded graphics
Pros: Powerful card for systems that have only PCI upgradability
Cons: no AGP version available (Nvidia stopped making AGP compatible chips with the Geforce 7 series)
Other Thoughts: Seems like a really good and powerful card. I'm giving it 4 eggs mostly because it was a really good price for the performance promised. The problem that I had was my @#$% motherboard chipset being effectively incompatible with this card. NEVER buy a motherboard with embedded SIS graphics. I did, 3.5 years ago, and I've been living with its mediocrity ever since.
NewEgg was a champ with the no-questions-asked return policy. Thanks guys.

Great for video streaming with Dell 4600 and Sony Bravia HDTV
Pros: Installed into my Dell Dimension 4600 2.4 GHz 1.4 GB RAM WinXP Pro SP2 system with its 250 watt PS. Card is quiet, drivers installed without a hitch. It's EDID feature identified my Sony BRAVIA HD TV and selected optimal settings. My use is strictly as an HD HTPC to watch Hulu, Netflix, etc. and no gaming. I couldn't be happier with the end results. Latest NVIDIA drivers work GREAT in Win XP and Debian/Ubuntu Linux with kernel 2.6.26 and latest Xorg. Video sites stream full screen with almost never a dropped frame (pity there's no Netflix support for Linux). Does not max out CPU though runs at over 85% utilitization. Although the image quality is slightly better with the ATI 3850 AGP 4x/8x card, the superb frame rate and outstanding driver support make this card the clear winner. I'm using a DVI->HDMI adapter and the system reports that it's HDCP compliant.
Cons: None. This card has proven to be perfect for my intended application and runs flawlessly with no stability, noise or heat issues.
Other Thoughts: If you have an old P4 system like mine or better and want to convert it to a HTPC hooked up to your HDTV then buy this card, especially if you happen to want to run a Linux desktop. It supports compositing so Compiz desktop runs beautifully under Linux. In the end, I did a fresh WinXP reformat and reinstall since Netflix is Windows-only. I used my original Dell CDs for drivers, then latest NVIDIA drivers, then added SP and SP3 to create a dedicated HTPC. We are blown away with the results. Get this card!

Good for old dell
Pros: Bought from Newegg for Dell Dim. 3000. Needed PCI slot card that would make monitor acceptable for this old rig. The clarity it produces is good, as expected.
Cons: None, PNY's steady.
Other Thoughts: It's a Geforce 8400 in a PCI slot, didn't expect to game on this rig. Good for video streaming and just general picture acceptability.

PNY Graphics Card
Pros: Fast, free shipping. Excellent PNY support. Called and experienced the aggravating automated options, but then a live human came onboard. very knowledgeable and receptive.
Cons: Card DOA. Wasnt recognized in original PC, even when BIOS was set to PCI. Wasnt recognized in 2nd PC used as a tester. Froze that PC several times. Removed card and PC loaded fine. Will RMA and ask for overnight shipping from NewEgg.
Other Thoughts: Seemed like a good card, PNY customer support was excellent. Awaiting neweggs...

Pros: It was cheap and allows last generation gaming. Fast shipping as always when using Newegg. Fit in small form cases. Good for internet streaming.
Cons: Very Loud. It also run a tad hot inside a small form factor case. Extra cooling would be recommended, but if your on the cheap that might not be an option. If you want this card for this generation games it isn't going to cut it regardless fo what you do. Not enough bandwidth available, plus is is bottlenecked using a PCI slot.
Other Thoughts: I'd do it all over again knowing what I know now. It doesn't play COD 4 worth a hoot, but it works for Quake 4, C S source, and all the games released in that era. It opened up this useless computer to these games and video streaming. ( Current machine is a 2.8 Celeron D )

Compatible with Windows 7
Pros: Graphics are Great, Low Price, Runs Quiet.
Cons: None so Far.
Other Thoughts: Super Fast Shipping. I bought this for my Dell Dimension 2400 because the video card I had installed wouldn't support Windows 7 at a high resolution (1280x1024). The card works great and computer is running better than ever. Woo!

card reboots
Pros: Upgraded an older system and have been able to play far cry 2, and other new games. Shipping from Newegg was fast!!!
Cons: The card causes win XP to reboot on shutdown, I have to pull out power cord to shut off. PNY won't respond to my calls or e-mails
Other Thoughts: If there was a reason for this or a solution I would be happy. I have been trying to get this resolved since 9/10.

Works great
Pros: 1. It worked well. This card is very good handling DXVA, CPU is low and video of 1080P flows great even on my AMD Athlon XP 2200 on an old ECS MB of year 2003. I am using MPC HC. Looks like it is a bad idea to set MPC video decoder to 2 threads if using old single core system. 2. Inexpensive for reusing old system. Coupon is a plus. 3. I am convinced nVidia is the way to go now. I used to have a lot faith on ATI, but ATI failed as I just returned a ASUS AH 3450 AGP 512M based on ATI HD 2450. This ATI card failed miserably on DXVA, and it does not support CUDA.
Cons: 1. The CUDA on the other hand is not that good. When CUDA is enabled, 1080P video is played in slow motion mode. I guess many frames dropped. This might be caused by the CoreAVC video decorder or my old system. 2. Lacks an HDMI port 3. If PNY had offerred an AGP version, that would be very good 4. Newegg is very good on fast delivering

Good Value
Pros: Easy on the wallet. Runs quiet and smooth. The power of the card is good for the money.
Cons: It won't run the newest most demanding games, but if you're buying this card, chances are, the rest of your system can't support those games anyway
Other Thoughts: This card is great for games that are a few years old. I put this card in a Dell Demension E310 because it was the only decent NVidia card I could still find that was PCI and didn't break the bank. Basically, if you have a system that is a few years old, this card will allow you to play the most demanding games from that age(provided you have enough ram, adiquet processor, etc)

pny warranty
Pros: In my book PNY is a name brand reputable company with support after the sale
Cons: My video card failed right after the new egg warranty (31 days)
Other Thoughts: PNY sent me a new video card. After my good experience I would buy from PNY again. I thought the least I could do is write a good review for this company.

PNY Video Card
Pros: Bought two of these cards to use for work. Setting up a 3rd monitor with this card was a breeze. Worked first time. Didn't need to install software since I already had updated Nvidia drivers for my first video card. Rebate a bonus.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Running with 3 Samsung 19" 943N monitors. Can now add a 4th monitor if needed.

Pros: Great product at a great price. Pny has been know to put out great stuff. Video card install easilly, and software was a breeze. Graphics are great.
Cons: The only con I could come up with is that this product was not FREE. LOL
Other Thoughts: The 8400 GS is a great product at a reasonable price. So reasonable that I bought 2.

PNY 512MB PCI video card
Pros: So far has worked right out of the box. Put CD in drive and updated drivers via Windows driver update. Once I disabled my onboard video the auto detect/fix features worked great.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Hard to find cheap PCI video cards, this will breath new life into my old HP Pavilion, had to replace motherboard. We'll see if my BioShock and Mass Effect will play later tonight.

AVOID PNY
Pros: Fits Low Profile Computers like the Optiplex Desktop series
Cons: Poor Reliability. Broke at 1 year 1 month
Other Thoughts: Bought this for my Optiplex desktop. One day the montior had lines all over it when I started the computer. After troubleshooting. I pinpointed to the video card..and I removed it and used the onboard once again. Same story with a PNY 7900GTS I bought for my tower PNY...broke also in a year... PNY POOR POOR QUALITY. POOR RELIABILITY...Notice PNY 1 year warranty.

Decent
Pros: It works. Runs my desktop with aero at 1920x1200, so no complaints there. Video playback is much better than with onboard audio. Can play older games, but...
Cons: This is a pci card, so I didn't expect spectacular performance from it, but doesn't really improve framerates above that of the onboard graphics. However the quality of images is better, but doesn't really help when sometimes it feels like a slide show.
Other Thoughts: Replaced old dimension 3000 onboard graphics, can play GTA:SA at 1920x1200 on medium setting with decent fps most of the time. best performance comes from 1650x1050 with low settings, medium settings work well until explosions and rapid burst of gun fire are on screen.

Gaming Naysayers are correct!
Pros: Well it has an HDMI Output for those who just want to watch thier 'other movies' and pirated DVDs on the big screen and DVI for those who just want to amp up thier 15" monitors to a TV size!
Cons: If you like games this card suffers from extensive false advertising, I had the GeForce 5400 Made by a different and cheaper company, it will not run with any respectable FPS (above 10) any of the games it says it can, I play WoW and so does 1/4 of the entire world who plays PC Games, and YES! this DOES give a lower FPS in all major cities and outdoor zones then my GeForce 5400, this is supposed to be a substantial upgrade but it seems as if PNY went 'lazy' for thier last PCI model and just slapped it together and didn't do it right, DO NOT BUY THIS CARD IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND YOU LIKE WOW OR DECENT GAMES! if you like Mario Cart on your SNES Emulator then fine waste $70.00 on this one! otherwise you will be RMAing for your money back! LOL, Point, Blank, Period it does not run games! these WoW FPS BTW are at COMPLETELY LOW settings and 1024x768 Res! even 800x600 Res!
Other Thoughts: I thought maybe it was my CPU and Not GPU (becuase I have a P4 2.8 GHZ) and then tried it in my friends Box who has a Dual Core 2.4GHZ with 3GB of DDR3 RAM and NO still failed to produce any respectable FPS in WoW (The Emperor of Games), and all other games advertised, total Peace of ripoff!

Get what you pay for
Pros: More responsive than original on-board graphics in older Dell 3000
Cons: Flickers and stripes! Vertical bars every half inch, with hundreds of random horizontal white lines through the bars. Stumbles over screen re-paints badly, especially using Quicken 2007 software; each screen change takes a couple of seconds of flickering to settle down, then is difficult to read.
Other Thoughts: Originally bought different brand of card with same chipset, and returned it (thanks, NewEgg!) quickly. This card turned out to have exact same problems. Bowing to recession realities, I decided to live with problems encountered only while using Quicken. However, when I upgraded my browser from IE7 to IE8, I found that I now had same irritating stripes through all images while browsing. Can only clear by highlighting and releasing images displayed.

Works like a champ
Pros: Has DVI connector, and supports high resolution (Enough to drive my 23 inch monitor in native resolution)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Successfully installed on my Dell Dimension 2400 without too much pain. I had to disable the onboard video card. Before disabling the onboard video, the screen would display fine during the boot sequence, then the screen would be blank.

Running great on an old Dell 4600
Pros: I bought this for my daughter's machine so she could run SIMS-3. The only glitch I had during the installation was that I needed to update the BIOS from "older than dirt" to the latest rev A12.
Cons: Daughter now is glued to the machine and is fast becoming unresponsive. ;-)

Fantastic
Pros: Fast. Can handle Prototype, Resident Evil 4, Fallout 3, and Call of Duty 4 on my dualcore 2ghz AMD.
PCI. I have one of these in a PC that has no PCI-E slot and it's almost as fast as the 8600 in my main PC.
Stackable. I put two of these together in one PC, and in another PC I have one of these combined with a PCI-E Nvidia card. There is no conflicts and I can even share deskspace without getting blackouts.
Cons: The drivers from nvidia.com were no use. I had to use the ones on the included disk or it wouldn't recognize it. After I installed with the drivers from the CD I could upgrade from nvidia.com.

Think again
Pros: Silent, the fan keeps it cool. Install was easy.
Cons: Horrible card for anything other than looking at the screen. Games ran worse than my 1 year old ATI Radeon 9250, WoW was cut by half, CoD 2 is now unplayable. Do not buy this card unless you don't play games and watch videos.

Overall...BAD Card
Pros: Directx10, DDR2 RAM, 8400 GPU, Support Phyix
Cons: High Temperature, Very hot compare to my another GeForce 5500. Proformance seem not improved or even slower than GeForce 5500 Only successful installed in i915 Mobo, couldn't let it pass POST in G33 Mobo
Other Thoughts: If you really want a good graphics performance, this card is not your choice. No PCI-E? Simply upgrade your Mobo to newly chipset won't cost you $100 and get more powerful expension.
Trust me, new Mobo+PCI-E card is better than buy this card.

Decent, but Hot
Pros: Gave my Atom-Based HTPC the capability of playing HD content, even OTA HD content from a TV tuner. HDCP compatible means I'll be getting a blue-ray drive at some point for the HTPC. Works well in Vista using NVidia's drivers.
Cons: This card gets hot! Make sure it has some breathing room. I think they could have re-done the heatsink to have more cooling surface area.
Other Thoughts: Mine runs perfectly fine in a 250watt MiniITX case. I didn't bother to install the PNY disk, and opted to download NVidia's drivers off the bat, as I usually do with graphics cards.
I have not tested gaming on this computer as the intended purpose was to gain HD, and HDCP compatibility.

Good for the money
Pros: Geforce 8 series supports CUDA,DVXA, Low Profile with Fan Doesn't require extra power connector. Rebate. Comes with DVI to vga adapter
Cons: PCI , bottle-necking 64bit-bus But your buying this cards because PCI is all you have.
Other Thoughts: Definitely not a cutting edge gamers card, but will give you dual monitor support, HD playback, with Cuda, Core AVC pro 1.9.5 and CCCP codecs installed with XP. Vista was buggy to say the least. Mine didnt come with a Hd breakaway cable. Currently contacting the Manufacture for that. Certainly not New Eggs Fault.
My computer is an antiquated machine. Dell Dimension 3000 250 Watt Power Supply. 2GBS ram

You get what you pay for...
Pros: Cheap price.
Cons: Very poor graphics card if you plan to use it for anything else but media files. If you want to do any sort of gaming post 2004 era, forget about it. My old ATI Radeon 9800XT that burned out ran circles around this thing. In WoW it was running anywhere between 4-15 fps where I was used to running between 40-60 fps.
Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a gaming card with a decent price, keep looking.

Very nice
Pros: Shipped fast, nice package. Like that it has a fan, even though it is small. Really updated and sped up my graphics and old games run a lot better, and can finally play some new games.
Cons: Does show some random tearing, but hardly noticeable.
Other Thoughts: In my case, I had integrated graphics and an old ATI card. I removed the ATI card, replaced it with this one, turned on the computer and uninstalled every program and driver related to the old card. Restarted, downloaded drivers from Nvidia site, restarted again and set the Nvidia card as my primary card.

The component cable is a decoy, the card has no HDTV component output
Pros: An OK card to upgrade an old PC, works fine in my old Dell Dimension 2350. Works fine with 200W power supply. But if you are planning to use it for an HTPC, keep reading.
Cons: The component cable included with the card is a decoy! It has 9-pin connector, while the card itself has only 4-pin s-video connector (see the Newegg photos). So the cable cannot be plugged into the card and there is no HDTV output available. To be fair, the card description never says it is, it claims only s-video output. (Who needs it nowadays?...) So if you a planning to use it in HTPC, check whether your TV can handle DVI or DVI-to-HDMI input from a computer. For many TVs this is not the case, even if they have HDMI input.
Other Thoughts: Silly me - PNY duped me with this useless "courtesy" cable included with the card.

Dead out of box - no support
Pros: none
Cons: dead out of the box, heatsink overlaps pins ..so its hard to fully install.
vista would not detect card. even forcing the bios to use only pci would not detect,
junk dont buy
Other Thoughts: Cannot contact PNY, they only have voicemail and I have left 3 messages over the past 4 days.
I am returning to newegg.
PNY HAS NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT...NONE...ZERO.

Nice, but not happy with newegg
Pros: Very nice card, if you are stuck with pci like me, this might be the best nvdia card for gaming, I am able to play call of duty U.O. and DOOM 3 at full settings, ATI TOOL says im geting 80 fps was able to overclock and get an extra 40 and can still get more.
Cons: The card looked like it was used when i got it with parts missing like the av cable and one of the bolts that held the pci braket on the card. And its not the same as the one in the pics its a half card not a full card.
Other Thoughts: This thing dose run HOT so if you plan to overclock you should upgrade the cooler. Just a note: I used the drivers from nvdia webstite a lot of people on here say those are better. People who say this gets really bad fps migth have a old or slow computer heres what i have to give you an ideal (2.6 p4 cpu, 1gb ram, 430w psu).

Don't do it
Pros: Fast shipping from the Egg, easy to install
Cons: low low low fps, I had an ATI 9250 that died, so I though I would go Nvidia, this card is slower then my ATI, I get 1-3fps in WoW cities oand only about 14 outside with all settings on low and 800x600 resolution

I dont get it I just dont...
Pros: nothing really little improvement on cs:s
Cons: ehh not much of an improvement of cs:s i was hoping to go from 30-40 on my 6200 to 60-80 or somewhere higher but it did not i was disappointed. Also on guild wars my fps went from 40-50 to 10-20
Other Thoughts: i should have just got a new pc but since my mom wont let me i have no other choice idk what i did wrong i installed new drivers and everything....

Melt down
Pros: Easy install, worked ok
Cons: After a little over a month, my computer started shutting down. Discovered the cooling fan in the card wasn't running. Reason, it _melted_. It was out the return period for Newegg, dealing with PNY now. Returning the card to them.

Pros: This card does exactly what its designed for, display basic video output on your computer. Its a low cost replacement for aging computers that will improve performance of the computer.
Cons: None if using the card as intended.
Other Thoughts: Nividia's naming policy is a bit strange in that this card isn't by any means better than older cards. If you're looking for a card to play games on an aging computer, this is not the card you are looking for. Even the nVidia 6200 outperforms this card for gaming.

New Life for Old PC
Pros: This card is pretty cheap, and has extended the life of the family's old Dell Dimension 2400 by at least a year and a half. We (obviously) don't do any gaming or other graphics-intensive operations. But even so, the overall speedup due to the load off of the CPU was worth the money alone. Older games (like age of empires) that the comp was huffing and puffing to run, now run rather fluidly.
Cons: Surprisingly poor instructions. The installation guide even contradicts itself in different places. If you've never done this before, you are in for wild ride.
Other Thoughts: This is a good buy for anyone with an older computer who isn't ready to/doesn't want to/can't afford to make an investment in a completely new machine.

great card for older systems
Pros: bought this for my brother. has an older compaq system. single core celeron, 1 gig of pc 2700 ram single channel. he plays alot of free MMO's and with this card even on his older system most of them run at really good framerates on max settings
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: if you have only a pci slot to work with and cant just get a new computer, get this card. excellent performance for the mony

Good card
Pros: Great image quality. Probably leaves a lot to be desired for gamers but for your average user its better than good enough. Most of the negative I read about this seems to have been from people who expected more than they should have from this type of card or had no business being inside their machine to begin with.
Cons: Instructions are pretty vague so I wouldn't recommend installation by a first time diy person but anyone who has done this a few times should have no trouble.

Light speed graphics!
Pros: This graphics card greatly enhanced my experience in Windows XP and Vista. I hope to use it in Windows 7 when I install the Beta version that I just downloaded. It takes over for the CPU allowing it to focus on other processing issues. Easy to install and driver installation is a breeze.
Cons: None that I am aware of.

Good PCI Dual Monitor Card
Pros: .
Cons: .
Other Thoughts: This is the last non-retired Nvidia PCI video card. It likely requires a minimum 210w +12v 12a power supply (not verified). Tested and worked fine with a 250w +12v 16a power supply in a Dell Dimension 3000. Did not test in games. Note: In this computer you can not disable the onboard graphics (only two settings Auto and Onboard - leave it on Auto). You must disable it in Windows XP Device Manager before installing the new card.

Pros: It is a good video card for your old pc. Low price considering it was made by PNY.
Cons: It is hard to push into the PCI slot, I thought I was going to snap it or something. The CD didn't do anything for me. Oh and the manual stated in the front that you were supposed to close out of windows xp's Add New Hardware Wizard and towards the back it said to click next and let it search for drivers.
Other Thoughts: Don't mess with the CD just search for the card model at NVIDIA.com and download the drivers and everything will be great.

Works great
Pros: This replaced a 5500 and I'm so happy. Price was great. For a PCI card this one is top notch.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Make sure you get the most up-to-date drivers from nvidia's website.

Great for an older system
Pros: Really makes an older system come alive. Simple install.
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: I have an old HP Pavillion 533w. After the install, I ran the "Can you run it?" utility on a website. It said I only had 64MB of installed graphics memory. I Disabled the original Intel Graphics Controller, restarted, and voila!!

Good card
Pros: This NVIDIA card has breathed new life into an old computer. Even though it uses PCI it runs compositing window managers beautifully. I have an older computer with an onboard graphics chip. It has always been painfully slow, even for web browsing. In recent versions of Linux the onboard graphics became buggy--I wish that had happened sooner, because now the computer is usable.
Cons: None, but I don't play doom.

Not bad
Pros: Good card, don't really have any complaints about its performance, for the cost you can't go wrong
Cons: Was a major pain to get the software installed, had to reformat and tweek the bios setting on my MB to get it to work and PNY's support is a joke, you have to leave a message for them to get back with you and its been 3 days and they still have not called back. And the the install guide book that comes with the card is worthless, it doesn't cover anything about this card
Other Thoughts: Don't bother using the install disk, just go to Nvidia and get the drivers from there.

great card
Pros: great card card over all adds great detail
Cons: not good for games like fallout 3 because of the 64bit memory transfer as said by another person, playing fallout 3 card will crash making me have to restart the computer, basically this card is not for high end gameing
Other Thoughts: that remark about the card being 64bit was about the memory because the card is a pci 32bit card bus gddr2 should be 128bit transfer the 64bit transfer slows down data transfer card is clocked higher than the pci-e model to make up for the pci bus speed.

Pros: I got this card as an upgrade to an old Dell Dimension 2400 I have and this card is a great improvement for an aging PCI only motherboard.
Cons: I had some difficulty fitting it into the case because the ground in the case made it somewhat difficult to align the card with the slot.
Other Thoughts: I'm running this card on a rig with a 250 watt power supply so the 350 watt requirement isn't true.

Great card, know what you need
Pros: It's PCI...I buy it for what it is. I needed a PCI card for my HD living room HTPC. 512 MB in PCI, vga, dvi, and svideo with the component breakouts. I use it to view BD, HDdvd, and 720p home videos. My home videos are 1080i but I don't have those copied to this machine yet to test ;p
Cons: None really. 64bit is not a con. Please don't leave such remarks. PCI is 64 bit...is that a con? Maybe of PCI, but not of any given product.
Other Thoughts: Manual needs to be more specific to this card. The manual included is a basic one that pretty much covers the more powerful gpus and pci-e.

Pros: Installed in Dell 300 single 3.0 ghz ht that is an HTPC. no PCI-e or AGP in the computer. Card allows computer to play both .ts and .h264 perfectly. Using latest nvidia drivers and arcsoft for decoder. mission accomplished!
Cons: To get the card to be primary and for the drivers to work right, I had to reformat and boot up the first time with the monitor plugged in to this card. most likely Microsoft error.

Depends on what you are using it for
Pros: Easy set up. Plays older games such as Battlefield2 very smooth. Its cheap.
Cons: ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE for any newer games. Tried COD4 and was lagging so bad that it WASN'T PLAYABLE. By not playable I mean it was like I was a robot. Other players would warp across my screen.
Other Thoughts: I only have pci slots, which if you are looking to buy this card, is probably the same situation you are in. I had a radeon x1550 before this, it died. I thought that this 8400gs, being 514mb, dx10, shader 4.0 would be a better card. In some of the older games i tried it on, it was. However, if you intend on playing any of the newer games such as COD4, COD5, Crysis etc....DON'T GET THIS CARD. The x1550 was 2x better for those games. If you aren't planning on playing any games, go for it. My advice, get the x1550.

Epic failure.
Pros: -Decent for the price
Cons: -64-bit -Drivers would not work at all no matter what. -Deserves -3 Eggs.
Other Thoughts: I installed it in my desktop with no problems.
I downloaded the freshest drivers straight from the Nvidia website and they worked fine up until I tried to play a game.
At first it seemed perfectly fine but then small graphical errors would pop up and get progressively worse until the screen was un-readable. I had to MANUALLY reboot my computer every time this happened.
When I began playing the game, less than one minutes would go by before the first graphical errors would appear. By two minutes, over half the screen was unrecognizable. By 3 minutes, I had to reboot.
I tried installing old drivers and even the ones that came with the disc but it still gave me the same problem.
Finally I tried to install it into a completely different PC I use for tests and it gave me the same issues.
Luckily I was still within the 30 day refund policy.
I would not recommend this is ANYONE.

Pros: A wonderful PCI video card, capable of playing BD! It may not be a "gamer's" card, but it's great for my purposes.
Cons: Not really a con, but it's 1/8" too high to fit in my teeny-tiny computer case. Actually it fits, I just can't put the top cover on. No big deal, I'm swapping cases with my other Mini-ITX card. That case is a bit higher.
Other Thoughts: I have built a system to be my "Living Room Internet Appliance" including playing (and recording) Blu-Ray for under $500. Not counting the big HDTV that'll be the monitor, of course.

Good Card
Pros: Easy to install. Relatively small size compared with some other cards. Very useful for a computer where a PCI card is the only way to upgrade the graphics card (NO AGP slot, PCI-E 1x slot only).
Cons: 64-bit architecture. most powerful cards starts from 128-bit and up.
Other Thoughts: Very important note. You might have this problem on some systems that have built-in video card. I have a built-in video card. I installed the new card and I changed the video setting in the setup use the new card. everything seemed to be perfect when I first restarted the machine. It took the new card BUT when Window XP started loading the screen changed to black with no activity at all. I unplugged the monitor cable form the new card and plugged it back to the old card to discover that Windows is still taking the old one. I had to disable the old video card from the device manager in windows before I could the new one to work. Everything went perfect after that.

Mixed feelings
Pros: Ran great for the log-in screen on World of Warcraft...
Cons: VERY VERY low FPS on World of Warcraft
Other Thoughts: I previously had the GeForce FX 5200 and it ran WoW decently, not so great, but decent. Then I though, "Hey, maybe I should buy the 8400 GS, it might run well." I was wrong. I was getting lower FPS than the FX 5200. Now, it could have been that my processor isn't up to par, but come on, I thought it was be a LITTLE decent. I'm not sure if this is the right card for me for WoW. I only rated it a 2 because I'm not sure how well it runs with other games. It might be decent though. But be aware, do not buy this just for WoW. This low end card doesn't live up to par.

A great card for a PCI system!
Pros: This card is great! Sure, it has only a 64-bit memory interface, but it is a small price to pay, because i have used similar cards with same setup, but a 128-bit interface, and the only thing that makes 128-bit better is that it is stable for overclocking. I can run Crysis on low settings at 1152*864 with NO NOTICEABLE LAG!
Cons: None that I can think of.
Other Thoughts: This card is perfect for upgrading a lower-end computer. the 64-bit interface doesn't affect gameplay, because I can run WoW on all high with 60-75 fps. Also, I am running it in a Dell Dimension B110, and in a Dell Dimension 2400, which have 250 watt and 200 watt PSUs, respectively. They run great, so the 300 watt PSU minimum is not true.

Looks can be deceiving...
Pros: Hmm, can't seem to think of any...
Cons: 64 bit memory interface, tsk tsk... this card was made to deceive the consumer, I have lost a lot of respect for PNY because of their ignorance and greed.
Other Thoughts: The Sparkle 8500gt is out for PCI and it's about 40$ more, it actually has a 128 bit memory interface with 256MB of vram... Invest in that, it will save you a lot of time.
