Rating + 1 "LIfetime" is not lifetime

Pros: None.

Cons: I didn't buy this card, but I bought another one from XFX. 18 months later, it stopped working. Turns out, the capacitors blew on it. Blown caps is a sign of cheap components. Now I'm plodding through XFX's "support" to get it replaced.

Other Thoughts: Even though they keep saying "Lifetime warranty", the warranty is lifetime ONLY IF YOU REGISTER THE PRODUCT WITHIN 30 days! It says so in their TOS.

Rating + 5 Bought the Cheaper priced version

Pros: I bought The Cheaper Priced version for 10 bucks less and still was able to over clock to --- 940mhz and Memory at
(4600mhz) Both are pretty much the same card lol , But if your willing to spend 10 more bucks to feel safer is up to you either way these cards are freaking sweet. Can't wait to buy another 1 lol.

Rating + 5 Good so far

Pros: I am finding this card to be doing the job perfectly. I am still trying to overclock this card, currently core @ 900 MHz, memory @ 1150 (4600MHz). I set my fan speed to 55%, yes is it little noisy, but I game with a headset so I don't hear it at all. Idle temps are 35°C (100% fan I got it down to 32°C), while on load the highest 'I've seen' was 56°C.

Cons: The only con I can think of is really a simple of issue of getting a higher stable core clock. Some reviews boost they can get 1000MHz core clock, last time I tried a higher core clock like 950 Aion and L4D after about a hour to two hours will crash. Well not crash its more like windows 7 prevents it from happening which will shut down the driver and reboot it. Doing so will cause those games to close. I guess I can try going for 1000MHz with a higher fan speed... noise of the fan @ 100% is like a hair dryer.

Minor cons for the most part, thats if your picky about them.

Other Thoughts: Antec 900 Case
i7 920 2.66Ghz @ 3.06Ghz
Cooler Master V8 Heatsink
Asus P6T Mother Board
Kingston HyperX 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 @ 2043 MHz

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB
XFX Radeon HD 4890

This was my first build ever, wasn't too for me to do. Put a 64-bit Windows 7 Pro on it and it was done at that point, apart from my rookie attempts for overclocking. My old system was a P4 2.4Ghz paired an AGP GeForce 6800GT, I would get about 30 FPS on L4D on the lowest setting. With my current rig, er the lowest I got it to was 80 FPS on with everything on the highest you can put it. 80FPS was the low during an horde event mixed in with some fire. Averages at 120-180FPS, apparently the highest FPS you can get on L4D is 299 lol.

Rating + 5 Amazing card!

Pros: This card is very easily overclockable!
I was able to get the core to 1000Mhz and run stable for quite some time and the memory is currently set at 4600Mhz!I am able to run crysis on high settings with no problems at all.I would recomend this card to anyone! And for only $200 is is still a great deal even though the 5800 series is out.

Cons: It gets really hot but I was able to keep it constantly overclocked and running at 45C.

Rating + 5 good card

Pros: This was a huge upgrade for me as I previously had a $50 9600 GSO that I bought when I was building my system to save money.
Everything maxes out easily, the drivers work great.

Cons: None really, if only these were DX11. These cards are at a great price point right now, if you live cutting edge, you will be living empty wallet.

Other Thoughts: Everyone complains how huge these cards are, well I have a antec 900 and I was shocked when I didn't have to do anything besides remove my old card and install this one. I had plenty of room and didn't have to touch my cable management or hard drive cage. I guess if you have a cheap case, you might not be able to fit it in.

Rating + 4 I should have waited

Pros: Card is fast, no slowdowns have been noticed. It has handdled everything I give it on high settings.

Cons: LOUD monster, scares me at nights. This thing pumps heat like a heater (will come in haddy in the winter). Have noticed on Operation Flashpoint small anomolies, such as screen dakening, this may be the game casuing this.

Other Thoughts: I should have gone with Nvidia, but I wanted to give ATI another try since AMD bought them out. I should have waited to see what else came out. 4 eggs due to noise level and heat.

Rating + 4 Been running great for 6 months in a workstation

Pros: Great stable card, I put one in an i7 machine and it's been running great. I'm considering getting another for crossfire because I have dual monitors and that cuts vram in two. I bought this instead of a quadro or firegl because of price, and it supports 3,000,000 polys in max and runs crysis on very high (AA x 8).

Cons: There is a problem in 3DS Max Design running DirectX 10.0, but that could very well be software.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this card for anybody, for work or play.

Rating + 5 Great Price

Pros: It runs great, isn't as loud as people are making it out to be, and it handles anything I throw at it. As a gamer I love that I can now play anything I want at high settings without seeing lag.

Cons: It's the size of a house. I went into my system to check a stick of RAM today and when I put it back together I booted up to find a disk read error. Seems this beastly card runs up so closely to my HD that it kicked the connection between the mobo and HD. I had to go back inside and reconfigure the wires to get things going again.

Other Thoughts: If you have the space and the price is right than go for it. It's a good card.

Rating + 5 Good Product

Pros: It went in and installed without a problem. After downloading drivers for Win 7 64 bit. I liked the fact the driver package was less then half the size of my old Nvidia Drivers. I am very happy to make the switch back to ATI as I have been an Nvida customer for a long time. And at the current price vs performance levels I felt this was the most bang for the buck.

Cons: None at this point in time

Other Thoughts: I got this to replace a dead 8800 GTS and this card is much better performance wise. would have had to spend much more with Nvidia to get the same results as I am getting now

Rating + 5 Really nice card

Pros: Well packaged, great card that performs as I expected and then some. This was an upgrade from a 512 MB 4850 card that I placed in another system. I liked the 4850. and really love the 4890. COD WaW loads much, much faster with this card, and I've not thrown anything at it that it hasn't shined.

Cons: It costs money? :-)

Rating + 5 First GPU I've Been Truly Happy With!

Pros: 800 Stream Processors, a hefty 850 core clock, 1gb of RAM, almost 4ghz on the Memory Clock, GDDR5 memory, PCIE 2.0... I mean, the list literally goes on forever with this card. I upgraded to this because my motherboard that I updated to later on doesn't support SLI for my older 8800gt 512mb from nvidia, so I got one of these thinking it would be great to do CrossfireX with in the future. The ONLY problem with that theory is that this card is already so monstrously powerful that I don't need anything more, and I'll tell you why. First off, I have an AMD Phenom II Quad core at 3.6ghz per core with 8gb of DDR2 800 ram in my system. I also use a 23" Samsung 2343bw monitor that supports 2048x1152 res, so keep that in mind, but these are some of the real-time test results I got on my rig. GTA 4/ all highest settings except view distance @ 33 - I got 54fps. Astonishing. But try this, Crysis Warhead @ 2048x1152 with no AA/AF but EVERYTHING on Enthusiast setting - constant 30+ fps - avg. 37.

Cons: Might be too heavy or too large for some people/ their case, so research first ; )

The cooler "can" be loud, but what I do is either keep the fan at 33% (not noticeable) or put it on 55% when gaming (3-4db louder than my front and top fans for my case). At those fan speeds, the card isn't a pain on the ears, however, at 100, you should take my word when I say that it sounds like a hair dryer. The best I can compare this cards max fan speed to would be a Hair Dryer at about 10 feet away. Now, a lot of people say this is bad, but I see this ENTIRELY as a good thing. I WANT a good cooler if I "need" it, and I "have" one now. My older 8800gt once got to 103C and while the manufacturer said they were fine up until 100C I didn't like the extra heat all over. Well, this card, when running at 55% fan speed, will ensure that your GPU never reaches 70C - ever - no matter what game I've played.

One possible con might be that some manufacturer's have higher core speeds, but just OC this ; )

Other Thoughts: The memory bandwidth on this card is also particularly special to make note of because this card can process a bandwidth of 124.8GB/s... and to stop and think about that for a second, my last card, the 8800gt 512mb, could do about half of that at 64gb/s. What does that mean? - It means that as long as you have a very powerful processor and RAM to handle all of that computation, this graphics card is going to stay on-par and deliver a tremendous amount of graphics capabilities on-the-fly. This is mostly used in games with really hi-res textures or games with TONS of objects on the screen at once... or games with both of those things, like Crysis. Now, I mention above that I get solid 30 fps with Crysis Warhead cranked. For some people, that's "not enough" - fine. Lower the resolution from my crazy 2048x1152 and get 40's - 50's or lower 1 or 2 settings from Enthusiast setting. The game will still look absolutely stunning. I, however, am happy running the game fluidly at a solid FPS.

Rating + 2 Terrible

Pros: Newegg has excellent customer service and they RMAed this without a problem.

Cons: This 4890 performs more like a 4850. As soon as you run benchmarks you can tell that something is wrong. If you even do things like windows experience rating with a minor overclock the card causes the computer to freeze. Definitely don't get this. I send this back and instead got the XXX edition, which is much better.

Other Thoughts: my current 4890 is excellent...runs everything high settings without a problem

Rating + 5 Guess I'm lucky that way...

Pros: Fast, sweet looking, cheap compared to Nvidia. Plus, it's fast. I have one of the 2 x 6 pin cards. I must have hit the lottery because my card gets me 60FPS @ 1920x1200 on Fallout3 with maxed eye-candy & 15k+ on 3dmark06 with no OC. I love this card. I'm gonna buy another when the price drops a little more and Crossfire these bastidges. Why? Why climb the mountain? Because it's there, Baby. Because it's there.

Cons: -It's big. In a longish kinda way. I had to plug the power cables in before I mounted the card and wiggle it between my Raptors in my Antec midtower.

-It's loud. Leaf blower loud. The good news is, with the fan maxed out, you could actually USE IT as a leaf blower in a pinch. With the fan set on auto it runs around 60C at idle. Set on Max it drops below 45C. That's the trade off. Use ATI Overdrive and crank it up if you're gonna frag all night. Otherwise, leave it set on auto and you won't hear it at all.

Other Thoughts: If you're on the fence about this one, I'd say go for it. Plus, it has a Double lifetime warranty so if you're a cat you're all set.

Rating + 2 Ehh..

Pros: It ran Batman: Arkham Asylum, Fallout3, and FEAR 2 at 1680x1050 and full settings at what appeared to be 60fps. (I never benchmarked it, so don't quote that anywhere.)

Not to mention it helped my video editing software run a buttload smoother.

However...

Cons: Every 2-3 I would have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. This could be completely my fault because I'm running Windows 7 build 7201 x64. I had to go on their website and track down the new Windows 7 drivers, too.

At first it started out with a bunch of black, vertical lines across the screen, then when I restared to make it go away, it blue screened on every reboot, giving me the 'atikmdag.sys' BSOD. Then when I tried to reboot in safe mode, Safe Mode blue screened too. I didnt think that was even possible... Eventually I managed to roll back and reinstall the drivers. It worked, but it three days, same problem. Rinse, repeat and return.

It works great when it actually works, but it's not great enough to have to battle with it every couple of days. I sent it back and I'm probably never buying from XFX or getting an ATI card ever again.

Rating + 4 Nice for the price

Pros: Wonderful card, runs everything at max with no problem whatsoever. Runs quiet (though at boot it sounds like jet taking off for about 5 seconds) and cool 50ish on max load. Though I do have a huge case with 4 fans. Once the new ATI cards are established and the price of this one drops a little bit more, I'll be grabbing a second one for xfire.

Cons: Like pretty much every other person here, my first one was DOA. XFX's tech support was... lacking at best, but thankfully Newegg was great and I got another one within a week. The card itself is a tad large, and it barely clears some of the pipes on my mobo, but that's why I build my machine within a huge full tower case. No problems with room and cooling here.

Other Thoughts: Like many others have stated, if you boot this card up and notice an inordinate amount of heat blowing out of it, it's most likely defective. My first card booted and blew out air that had to be 50+ degrees, and that was at boot up not after load for a time. The tech tried to say it was normal but I knew it wasn't. Sure enough the replacement card boots up cool (aka room temp).

Rating + 5 Definately a Good buy

Pros: Card is decent sized compared to most. Has two DVI outputs for my two Dell 22s. Runs fast and smooth, and a relatively quiet fan even at full load. Runs FarCry2 at Ultra High, AAx8 @27fps min.

Cons: If for whatever reason, you turn the fan up to 100%... it sounds like a jet engine. Its not the coolest card I have ever owned. After playing FarCry2 for a few hours its hot to the touch.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte GA-MA770T MoBo
AMD Phenom x4
XFX Radeon 4890 1GB
4GB PNY DDR3 Ram
NEC Cougar 1000W PSU
1TB SATA HDD (nothing special)

Pros: plays anything highest settings out now with great frame rate at 1680X1050 my monitors native resolution, except for crysis wich only runs around 30 fps and 15 fps on action scenes for me.

Cons: For some reason I cant get mine to overclock stable even a bit. When i set the core clock at 860mhz or even 900mhz on the catalyst ATI overdrive and i also tried other programs to overclock with. It works fine but when i run a game or something the computer just crashes and the screen goes white. Any one have any solution for this?

Other Thoughts: Other than the overclocking problem i have its alright.

Pros: Cant complain at the speed for the money, it has no problem running games at 1080p on my 46 inch LCD samsung tv, albeit on games like far cry to i have to dumb down the AA not all the way but to at leat like 2x.

Cons: Same as above really considering its a single gpu card, i cant complain but 1 of these on its own will struggle to play the latest titles fully maxed out i recommend that you go with two of these in crossfire, but hell for 168 odd bucks what do you expect!?

Rating + 4 Finally got a good card!!

Pros: Finally got a good one out of what seems to be alot of bad cards being sold here on Newegg. Perform pretty well and maxes out everything on GTA 4, Fallout 3, and Unreal Tournament 3. I also game on a 25.5 inch LCD monitor so my res is 1900x1200, which is pretty impressive for this card!! If you get a 6 pin/6 pin card, don't worry. These are the new revisions again. Runs everything maxed out for the most part, even at HD resolutions!!

Cons: If you get one that runs Windows, but gets horrible frames-per-second...(like 15fps on GTA 4 Benchmark test0...chances are that you got a defective card. Mine would also lock up every once in a while. So I sent it back and now everything is good. I get 50+ FPS on GTA 4 with everything on 'Very High' settings @ 1900x1200 resolution!!

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a 9800GTX+ cause my motherboard is Crossfire, so I had to switch to ATI if I ever want to run multiple cards in the future. This card didn't blow my hair back like lots of people claim, but I did notice a pretty good improvement. Im running a Phenom II 940 quad @ 3.4 GHz with 4 gigs of 1066 Kingston Ram so nothing I have is bottlenecking this card. Bottom line, this card is worth the money, and it's gonna drop in price pretty soon cause the new 5800 series cards just came out!!

Pros: I ran fraps on this card and i almost got 300 fps. I think the highest i was was 298 frames per second. OUTSTANDING!!! I love ATI.

Cons: Not good for flight simulator. Flight simulator works better with NVIDIA from what I hear, of course after i got the card. The anit-aliasing causes problems with this card on flight sim. I am in the pocess of talking to Microsoft to work on something with this because everything looks all grid-like and blocky and such. And yes i have put all the filters on. So I am extremely dissapointed in this card for that reason, but I guess it isnt ATI's fault totally, it is partially Microsoft's fault too.

Other Thoughts: ATI is still #1 in my book. I love them, even if i had more problems with the card.

Rating + 5 Cool great card

Pros: No reason to really overclock this card yet. Everything I have thrown at it in 1920-1080 has been smooth and no artifacts or tearing. At 850MHz with 70% fan it runs at 53C constant.

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: People have complained about the card heating up to much, but that is because either A: They have a defective card B: They didn't set the fan to 70% while gaming or C: They are not smart enough to use a case with adequate ventilation.

Rating + 2 So far, not impressed!!

Pros: I feel in very good hands dealing with Newegg. They are great!! It's good to have that 'peace of mind' when you are spending this kind of money!! And I love the feedback that everyone leaves here!! Ok, the world is not perfect, so every once in a while, you are going to get a defective product. In this case, the dual 6 pin I recieved was terrible. This is the first ATI card I've ever purchased. Im all excited about a future crossfire setup and you cant beat the XFX warranty, but this thing ran awful!! I RMA'ed this one and figured I would give em one more shot before I switch back to Nvidia. Im going with a EVGA GTX 275 if I get the same reults again with the replacement. If Im not let down, I will give some more feedback.

Cons: I wrote a review in favor of the whole 6/6 pin config just a few days ago before testing, and now Im eating those words. I recieved the dual 6 pin, which happens to be the new revision again. It performed awful, the one I recieved anyway. My PNY 9800GTX+ ran games FAR better and it only had half of the memory this one does!! On top of that, it slowed my Windows 7 64 bit down in every basic way too. Strange 'screen flickers' even when I just simply log in and out. Cant put my computer to sleep. Tried using older drivers from the current 9.9 CCC with only disasterous results!! My frame rates with GTA 4 was 15 fps!! When playing, is was like watching a slide show from all the lag. Im just being specific for all those who might get this card and wondering why it feels like a downgrade when you bought for a performance increase. I almost forgot to mention that I had plenty of lock-ups with blue screens of death forcing me to hit the restart switch.. Extremely Disappointed!!!

Other Thoughts: My computer is more than worthy to run TWO of these cards, so I know there is nothing that I have that could bottle-neck this card!!

Rating + 5 XFX is awesome and this card is sweet

Pros: Overclocked to 1000 mhz. Fast and double lifetime warranty.

Cons: Runs hot 50 C is the idle.

Other Thoughts: Most of my games are DL or 32 bit so they don't really support all the overclock so most of them you can only overclock to 900, but that's just fine cuz they run super smooth all on high at 900 mhz.

Rating + 1 Possibly Defective if you got a 2 6 pin

Pros: Pros: I did some research on these cards in crossfire or a GTX 295 (my motherboard does not support SLI, so I was looking into ATI). Everything I read said the 4890 CF beats the GTX 295, I was happy to save $100 so I ordered 2 of these for Crossfire. I got them and was immediately very happy that they fit nicely in my case and crossfire worked! I started with one card and was puzzled that I did not gain ANY performance over my GTX 260...I thought this was odd and I 3dmark'd it, my GPU score was about 7000, average 4890 score is 10000-11000... OK, I CF'd them thinking maybe that would help. Performance boost was great in Crossfire, only problem? Sometimes they would heat up as much as 90 degrees Cels! That is HOT! (this could partially be due to the spacing between them in my case, not XFX's fault). Now I 3dmark'd the CF'd ones. Here is what I got

Total - P13471
Graphics: 12550 <----- ?!?!?!?!
CPU - 17273

Cons: Cons: I thought maybe I was the only one with this performance hit, but from what I am reading lately the 2x6 pin models all seem to have the effect of a 25% performance hit...normally I love XFX but this is not good at all...I just got a EVGA Gtx 295 to replace it, now THIS is the performance boost I expected for my money (Yes I know Nvidia takes the cake in 3dmark, but this is just no excuse).

Total - P23261
Graphics - 20132
CPU - 43588

That is almost a 10000 mark difference, seriously if you got a 2x6 pin model, return it asap because they are defective as others are saying, I am going to give mine back asap and stick with my gtx 295.

Other Thoughts: On 3dmark, I used the same settings, exact same rig

Core i7 920 stock
6 GB DDR3 Ram
500 GB 7200 RPG SATA
650W antec earthwatts power source (dont even say this is why because 2x 4890's are rated at 600 watts)
EVGA Gtx 295(used to be 4890 X'fired).

I usually LOVE XFX but this is un-called for, these cards are perform

Other Thoughts: This is in no way Newegg's fault, from what I am reading I am not the only one who has gotten one of these cards, even reading on forums and whatnot, XFX has been handing out some bad cards, like others have said; if you got a card with 2 6 pin connectors, do the testing, benchmarks, and see if you are getting the full performance. I do not want to bash this card, I really wish they worked the way they were supposed to because this is a really cheap price for this high end of a video card.

Rating + 3 Roll the Dice

Pros: -When they work they run smooth and look great

Cons: two out of three cards received where defective.
-No video output from one
-the other would only run at x8 and would artifact as soon as a game launched.

Other Thoughts: newegg handle the RMAs great unfortunantly I don't think I will buy an XFX product again. From my experiences be ready to roll the dice and take a chance on getting a working card.

Rating + 5 The best bang for the buck

Pros: Price, hardware adapters/extra cables included, nice packaging, free game included, good performance at 1920x1200

Cons: AA really takes a bite out of performance at 1920x1200

Other Thoughts: This card is cheaper than Nvidia's offering, the 275GTX, and performs just about equally well. I have read some complaints about the fan but I did not even hear mine, even when running GPU intensive games like Crysis at high settings and 1920x1200. The standard cooling solution is not going to cut it if you want to overclock, but that should be obvious. Overall this is probably the best bang for your buck currently.

Rating + 2 Terrible FPS/Crashing

Pros: Service is nice, works well with Champions Online... Sometimes.

Cons: Tested with Crysis, Champions online, Age of Conan, Steam games, Etc... Low fps in all of them, barely got over 30 FPS. Tried all i could by installing and reinstalling drivers/updates and still, no go. Constant Artifacts showing up, Crashes the computer to a point where i have to pull the plug from my computer. Temps don't get too high I suppose, 80 degrees Celsius is average. Waiting on a response from XFX Support since they're like newegg, Work free on weekend **blah**. It also wont let me run things in DX9 for some reason, just crashes (Yes I've tried older drivers and newer ones, still have the same outcome)

Other Thoughts: It's a bummer when looking at people benchmarking this card on youtube with Crysis and 3DMark and getting all this great outcome, then when i set up mine, it seems like ATi hired people to shoot those videos to make their cards seem beast. (Of course I'm joking, but it jsut feels that way from where im standing) Hopefully this is just defective so I can send it back, have a 7600GT i found in my closet, guess thatll do to check my email till I get the card back if I have to send it back :-\

Rating + 5 Think I got a XXX

Pros: This card rocks! I'm sure part of it is because I am coming from an older computer running an x850 pro, but still, this 4890 has been able to run FarCry2, Fallout 3, COD5, L4D all on max settings! I also think that I received a black XXX version because the board is black, the dvi ports are red, it is a 6+8 pin, and GPU-Z reports the clock at 900mhz instead of 850mhz! Double Lifetime Warranty!!

Cons: Absolutely none!! I am really happy with this card!

Other Thoughts: I wonder if I order another one for CF if I'll get this again (probably not...)

Rating + 5 Just what I needed!

Pros: Awesome card. Runs anything out there on maxed settings. Very easily OC'd to much higher Core & Memory Clock settings. Vents air out of case. Runs great so far...

Cons: don't have any other next generation cards to compare but over 55% fan speed seems to be very loud

Other Thoughts: 2nd day of ownership and every game has been run on highest graphics settings with no problem: Crysis, Far Cry 2, GTA IV, Section 8, + many others. Running with core: 900Mhz, memory: 1000Mhz. Highest temp I reached so far is 64 degrees with fan @ 50%.
Paired with:
Athlon 7750 @ 3.1Ghz
4GB PC2 5300 RAM
Windows 7.0 64bit
in an Antec 300 Illusion case (with added 120mm side fan)

Rating + 5 Just to clarify the whole 6 pin 8 pin mumbo jumbo!!!!

Pros: Ok, I just got this card today, and I just wanted to straighten out all the talk about the whole 6 pin/8 pin config being better cause it's not. I haven't tested the card yet, but from reading all these articles and horror stories about the dual 6 pin being the devil, it made me paranoid. So I called XFX themselves. Conclusion- they only make duel 6 pins cards again now. The 6/8 pin was the new version for a while, but now they only make dual 6 pin card now. I even had him run my serial number, cause I have a dual 6 pin, and he said it was manufactured 30 days ago. So it's BRAND SPANKING NEW!! The date today as I write this is 9/17/09. Ok, so I hope this helps anyone who is getting freaked out.

Cons: XFX support told me that if you recieve a 6/8 pin card, it's been manufactured months and months ago!! So you probably have an old card.

Other Thoughts: "I love it when you call me big poppa" !!! HAHA!!

Rating + 2 Not much better than a 4850

Pros: Solid and for the most part stable. Can run most things maxed out (COD, C&C, etc)

Cons: Runs rather warm (which can be expected) but I have a side fan which makes a huge difference never got about 60c.

Other Thoughts: Well I was planning this card as an upgrade from my Sapphire 4850 512MB and I have to say there really is no difference. I am running win7 and the Performance score for the 4850 was a 6.5 and for this card it only added .1 to that. I guess I was expecting too much from this. I am going to try and exchange this for a GTX 275 (only$30 more same brand) which is a surprise as I had been a loyal ATI customer until this point.

Rating + 1 quality control lacking

Pros: Ordered two cards and received a ver. 1 and a ver. 5.3.?? (Rotate your stalk newegg!!) They both function but one is performing poorly. Read the post below by "count" about the "inconsistent quality"

Cons: Ver.1 requires a 6 and 8 pin and the 5.3 requires two 6 pin connectors. I benched each card seperately in the primary pcie slot with latest CCC 9.8 drivers. I used the crysis benchmark. The 5.3 version performed 26.94% slower than the ver. 1 card. I wouldn't have discovered this problem if I wasn't able to do a side by side comparison. The slower version works decent but 27% slower is unacceptable. XFX need's to do better testing before putting their product's on the shelf. I feel sorry for the others that unknowingly have a poor performer.
The quality of construction between the two is very noticeable. ver.5.3 seems much more cheaply constructed than earlier versions. It has much lower value IMO. The difference in weight between the two is very noticeable. Less weight = less material.. It's a way of cutting material cost's I guess. Ver.1 weight is 1 Lbs 12.8 oz. Ver. 5.3 is 1 Lbs 6.4 oz. That's close enough to a half pound difference and It definately feel's like it.

Other Thoughts: At this point I'm going to retun both of these cards and go with the OC version just because It seem's they haven't made drastic changes to the design. If I run into consistency issues with the new these I will have to go with another manufacturer.

Rating + 1 HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

Pros: Starts right up, quiet when idles, no high pitching sound under load

Cons: LOW fps in games, low benchmarks in 3dmark06 an Vantage. By low I mean lower then the regular 4890 should have and even lower then 4870!!! I 've had versions 5.1 and 5.2 and there is no difference, both are slow.

Other Thoughts: the XFX support is pretty responsive. But when you say them that the card is slow, first thing they gonna tell you it is your system, and slow doesn't mean faulty.
I think they should know by now that there is a problem with these cards. I've tired of reinstalling drivers, Windows Vista and Windows 7, swapping cards (with 4890 from another vendor) to prove cards malfunction. what a waste of time...
C'mon XFX, do something about it.
Manufacturer Response:We are sorry to hear that you have had a problem. Please contact our support team at xfxforce.com. Email your ticket ID and a description of the problem that you are having to neweggsupport@xfxforce.com so that I can look over the case. Thank you.

Pros: Great value for your Dollar. I wanted to keep my new PC to somewhat of a budget but I wanted powerful graphics and didnt have enough room for SLI or Cross Fire.

Cons: it Screams! When you fire up a graphically intense game the card lets out a terribly loud whine.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have a nice set of speakers to drown out the noise. My old school 15" Cerwin Vegas work great for that =)"What did you say something!?!"

Rating + 1 HIGHLY INCONSISTENT QUALITY, DONT BUY

Pros: If your PC does not have a built-in VGA then it will provide an output port for a monitor till u get some other card.

OK seriously, HD4890 is a superb value for money and an awesome card but only this particular model from XFX has highly inconsistent quality and many of their cards turn out to be LEMON.

Cons: This card is highly defective, not that it does not work but it works like a 3000 series card. My crad was a 2 6in-pin connector model. It worked flawlessly out of the box, no artifacts, no hardware problems. But it wasnt producing the fps it should. I then checked it through 3D Mark Vantage and the GPU score was 7650 at Performance Preset where it should be 10000-11000 at stock clocks. I benchmarked it further through games like Crysis Warhead, Far Cry2 etc. and I was getting 13-25 less fps in these games (13 less in Crysis) than normal stock speed HD4890s. I tried to overclock it and it wont budge over 880 GPU clock and no clock speed increase in Memory clock. So I contacted XFX, the first guy I got at customer support was pathetic, he knew nothing about this card. Then he fetched somebody after 2 days who did know about this card and they declared that the card is indeed defective. I RMAed it for refund immediately.

Other Thoughts: When a product is not working, you can straight forward go for RMA but if it does not work as it "SHOULD" then it becomes very difficult for a user to, first of all, detect that its not delivering at its max performance level and later prove it to the manufacturer. I can bet that some users who gave it 5 stars may not have noticed that their card is not getting them the performance that they should get cause the card I got performed only 25% less than a normal HD4890 and this difference may be subtle for a novice. I recommend if you have bought it in recent weeks, do some research, run some benchmarks and see if your card is really performing up to par.

I have been observing this model's feedback and it had 85% 5 star reviews like 40 days ago and now it only have 77% which says a lot about the consistency in Quality of this model from XFX lately. Do yourself a favor, dont buy it if you dont wanna gamble with your time and money.

Rating + 5 Very Nice!!

Pros: Fast, Cheap, Double Lifetime Warranty.

Cons: Only one that's not really a con because I new it before I bought it.....You cant increase the voltage with the current bios which really limits the OC ability. But that would void the Double Lifetime warranty anyway...;)

Other Thoughts: I went from an X1900XT to this and my 3D Mark score went from the low 8000's to 17460. Just by changing the video card!! FPS went way up in COD5. It's funny that I bought my X1900 series a few years ago for around $500.00 and this card blows it away for $200.00. I'm not complaining however. Keep it comming ATI!! I WILL be buying another for Crossfire.

Rating + 5 Great Card

Pros: My 4890 performs great, though as others have mentioned the card runs hot and can get above 70c. While it is loud while running a 3D ap, its certainly quite enough while in the desktop to not bother.

Cons: None really, I got what I paid for.

Other Thoughts: Alright folks, AMDs product page (http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonhd4800/requirements-4890.html) for the 4890 states that it requires 2 6pin connectors. XFX does use a 6+8pin setup for their XXX black edition card, but that card arrives overclocked and likely requires the 8pin connector to maintain stability while overclocked. To summarize, this card can operate fine with 2 6pin connectors, and receiving a card with 2 6pin connectors doesn't mean you got a bad card. The more expensive, overclocked, black edition card is the one that would have the 6+8pin configuration. Also I'm running my card overclocked on a 450W 80+ certified Corsair power supply with no issues.

Other Thoughts: do not buy this model of card, there is a good working revision and a not soo good working original model and there is no way to make sure you get a good card. stay away at all costs.

Rating + 4 So far VERY Good!

Pros: With the stock cooler this card is idling at 120 F and under load has only hit upward to 130 F, It runs cooler by 20 degrees than the XFX 4870 I had. The GPU is a monster and will eat all my games. Crysis plays on high in all settings with no hiccups. Comes with a free game.

Cons: Can be LOUD. When loading Crysis or other graphic intensive games (especially DX10 titles) the fan will speed up and is quite loud. Make sure you ask for clearance to take off from the runway before starting your game up!

Other Thoughts: This product would have received five eggs, but the reason for only four is because it replaces an XFX 4870 I purchased last week that made hissing noises (probably bad capacitors) under load which were so loud that I could hear them over the fan noise and my games! Thankfully, this card is not doing that. I should also mention that the guys at XFX tech support were top notch to deal with and as usual, Newegg RMA process is fast. They refunded my money for the 4870 the day they received the faulty video card back.

Rating + 5 Great Card

Pros: Great video card... It runs everything i through at it with everything maxed out. I get very nice fps with this single card. I will buy another one and crossfire it. The card is worth every penny that i paid. Best bang for the buck.

Cons: The card does run hot. I set my fan to 70% and it idles at 37c and like 40-56c with full load for me. I do suggest that if anyone buys this video card that they manually adjust the fan speed to like 70%. Also in a lot of reviews i read that people say that the fan is to loud or annoying or whatever. I think that is very exaggerated (well to me anyways).

Other Thoughts: My system specs -

m4a79 deluxe
phenom II x4 940BE
G.Skill 4gb 800mhz
hd 4890 (crossfire soon lol)
500gb seagate hd
22x dvd burner

All in All i think this card is great and deserves 5 eggs.

Rating + 4 Great card for $200

Pros: First, the price is really sweet for this piece of hardware. If you are on a budget, this is probably the best for the money. Not the fastest around, so if super speed or benchmarking is important to you, you can do better. But most gamers will find that this card handles almost anything you can throw at it. I use it with an LG 1080p monitor, and I play all my favourite games at 60+ FPS, never drops below. Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament 3, Bioshock, GRID, Mass Effect, and the Supreme Commander games run superbly. The only games it has some performance issues with are Cryostasis and Crysis. But those are tough nuts to crack for any single GPU. Everything else, solid 60 FPS with vsync. The XFX tech support is also really nice, should you ever need it.

Cons: The card is hot, in a very extreme sense. You can't have this card in a poorly ventilated case, it'll melt. Catalyst allows you to turn up the fan, which is an effective remedy, but temps still border 85 Celsius. It needs both six and eight pin PCI-E power connectors, make sure you have the juice. I managed to cram one in a Micro ATX case, but I wouldn't recommend it. It needs space. When using Windows 7, the card sometimes resets and blanks the screen for a second, but that's just a little nitpick. Doesn't happen often.

Other Thoughts: Your CPU is the most likely bottleneck with this card in your system, so be sure to pair it with a quad core or a fast dual core. Not a huge jump over the 4870, not worth the money if you already have one, but a welcomed performance bump. To those who care about overclocking, this is a very solid card. Stock 850 Mhz, I have mine running at 990 Mhz. That puts it in class with a GTX 280 and almost doubles the value of this card. Pairs excellently with the Phenom IIs and a 790 FX chipset. As a final note, I had plans to purchase two of these for CrossFire, but I haven't needed it at all. Wonderful performance for its price.

Pros: Price - I got this card for $194

Cons: My bench mark scores using 3d mark vantage are about 1500 points lower than the 4850 I replaced. I used ATI overdrive (auto tune) to overclock the GPU but my system was VERY unstable, to the point that I could play Call of Duty for about 2 minutes before failure. Also, this card runs hot, so if you decide to get one make sure you will have top notch cooling.

I will RMA this card and likely get another 4890, but not XFX (I've read too many comments like this one to feel comfortable with this card)

Cons: This card runs to hot and to loud. I got 2 of these to run in my machine. I can get 5 min of play out of them till they run over 70c with the fans on 100% and alarms start to sound. Water cooling is not an option with these cards due to the fact XFX uses non reference designs now. So good luck finding a good water block to fit it.

Other Thoughts: Sending the cards back via RMA. Probably not gonna order anymore video cards from newegg after reading the comments on the majority of the other versions of this card. Most people seem to discover newegg has sent the non reference cards to them instead of whats on the picture. No thank you.

Rating + 4 So far, excellent

Pros: Excellent performance in everything I've thrown at it. An upgrade from my previous (dead) video card (8800GTX 768MB). Supporting ATI means I support AMD, which provides incentives for Intel to innovate. Works in Linux without any problems that I've noticed (through the ATI driver).

Cons: "Hot" and relatively noisy. Not "officially" supported in Linux.

Other Thoughts: The exhaust temperature on the card feels very warm. It is also quite a bit noisier than my near-silent 8800GTX was, even at full tilt. I had to replace the 8800GTX as it died (after 2 years of glorious use). Before, I couldn't hear the 8800GTX over the other fans in the case (they're 120mm fans on the "lowest" setting). I could barely hear it when Folding, or "the latest 3D game" was crunching along. The ATI card is audible over the normal fans in the case. When folding, it's very loud. I am a little bit disappointed in the noise level/pitch. However, I like everything else about the card. Some people poopoo the CCC, but I find it unobtrusive. I didn't notice any measurable difference in performance (+/- 1% either way) before and after installing CCC (just the driver vs. the driver+CCC) in various games or other benchmarks I ran.

Rating + 4 Well worth the price

Pros: Fast and smooth. Much nicer visual quality than the 8600GT it replaced. Best "boom for the buck" in my opinion. No hiccups or lag no matter how badly I get blown up.

Cons: With default clocks and fan speed, all the bells and whistles maxed out, it locks up UT3. I set the fan to manual (60%) and it alleviated the problem but runs kind of loud. I knocked one egg off because I think the driver AI should compensate for this itself, or at least be able to define threshholds.

Other Thoughts: FYI... The card fits nicely in a RaidMax Smilodon case using the 2 lower drive bays for the HD's. I could fit a 3rd drive, but a 4th isn't going to fit unless I use the floppy or CD bays.

Rating + 2 Great card but...

Pros: Extremely fast, powerful card

Cons: unstable, artifacts, RUNS HOT! must run the fans at at least 75%! Idle at 58C!

Other Thoughts: RMA! will not get another one, runs too hot, eventually you'll end up killing those poor fans! LOUD! what's the point of having a powerfull card if it can barely handle heat, cooling is poor.

Pros: Works like a charm. I'm finally able to play MS flight Simulator with no hiccups.

Cons: Card is extemely huge. Wanted to put 2 (for crossfire) in my computer but it takes up so much space I can't fit another one. Unless your slots have huge distance between them, won't be able to fit 2.

Pros: Blows most of nvidia cards out of the water
is not too expensive

Overclocks like you would not beleive (945/1200)

Cons: the only con is fan speed(see other thoughts)

Other Thoughts: I guess this really is not a big con but it prevented me from giving them a more higher rating. the fan control leaves something to be desired. If you want your card to be cooler than it is (mine currently sits at 56c) you need to turn the fan up to about 50%

Pros: I just bought two of these card an got them in crossfire mode. Every game that I play is maxed out an wow, the graphis are extreme. I couldn't be happier with the cards, Im running the GPU clock at 975mhz, and the memory clock at 1100mhz and it is stable at those speeds. This isn't a big deal but the only thing i dont like is the fact that i have to run the fans at 50% so their is some fan noise but thats ok with me, I where headphones most of the time while im gaming.

Rating + 4 Pretty Solid Card

Pros: Upgraded from a 9800 GT, noticed a BIG difference. Put one of these with my I7 rig and it just dominates just about every game. I like the performance so much that I decided to get a second one of these to crossfire it up. XFX Warranty is the best, that is why I stick with these guys.

Cons: HOT HOT HOT! The fan sounds like a a loud roar, it's fine if you have noise canceling head phones or loud speakers, but if not :( If you plan to crossfire, be sure to get a full case, as two of these cards will take up ALOT of room

Rating + 5 Best bang for the buck

Pros: I used to have a MSI GTX 260 C 216, I was very happy with it, but it was so large (took up almost 3 expansion slots) that I had no room to SLI it, and then I found out my motherboard only supported Crossfiring, so I started to look into X-fireing, or just buying a multi GPU Card, I was debating between these, or a GTX 295, and $500+ for a video card that will be outdated in a year really didnt seem too well to me.

So I decided I would order one of these, see if it would fit in my case and be able to Crossfire them with enough room, I got it the day after I ordered it (love neweggs shipping!). As always Newegg packed it with great care, lots of peanutes. I put the card in, perfect fit, smaller than my 260, ordered another one to Crossfire, cant wait until it gets here!

Cons: In most of my games, I see little performance increase from my GTX 260, I am for the most part running them at 1600x900 with Max AA and Max AF, but these are older games mine you so this is probably the reason.

Other Thoughts: XFX has always been my company of choice, their double lifetime warranty is superb, as well as there customer support. I did notice something tonight though while playing Crysis, I can put the AF up to 16x, and run the game on HIGH settings and still average 35-40 fps in heavy battle areas, Very high is around 20-30, but thats what X-fire is for :).

Cap it up :
-Smaller than the GTX 260 Core 216
-Runs quite cool, 50 deg. Cels. at Idle, 65-75 during gameplay.
-Quiet unless you crank the fan up to about 70%
-A LOT cheaper than nvidia cards.
-I know DX11 cards are around the corner, but id rather buy something thats been tweaked for a year now and perfected before I jump into a brand new era of unknown cards and benchmarks.
-I read the review of somone saying they got a 2 6 pin connector with black PCB and new label and it did not work properly, it really had me worried because I received the SAME version, my 3d mark scores were REALLY low, but it runs games Great!

-Can't wai

Rating + 2 HD 4890 under par

Pros: The lifetime warranty is great and unmatched.

Cons: This card performed horribly in all my games. My former HD 4870 5120mb outperformed it in every game and benchmark. Used a clean reformat and different driver versions and got no increase in fps. I read somewhere that there is a bad batch somewhere and I think I may have gotten one of those. I got the revision with 2 6pin connectors, black pcb, and the redesigned heatsink.

Other Thoughts: I got a Sapphire HD 4890 open box, and I must say this one is suberb. This was the upgrade i was expecting with an increase of 20 to 30fps in games. This one overclocked really well. I got it to 970/1100 clocks in ccc. I have no idea what is wrong with the xfx version. If you do by any chance get the revision I did, send it back and get the one with the 6pin and 8pin connector.

Pros: Fast, Fast, Fast. Excellent Graphics, I have another 4890 and put them in crossfire. Wow, huge difference. I recommend getting two to put in crossfire and one is great too!

ATI has definitely impressed me.

Cons: Works great in 32bit Vista and Win7, 64bit Drivers need Tweeked I think, Big. Two in crossifre will take up a considerable amount of room and put out some decent heat.

Other Thoughts: I only wish I could put three in crossfire on this computer.

Pros: Upgraded from an old 7950GT. This card is impressive. Running prototype at max settings, very smooth. Have not had a chance to try much else, i only got it installed last night around midnight. Arrived quickly and packaging was high quality. Plug and play, easy driver install from the ati site. Included crossfire bridge. High performance card, reasonable cost, and it works. Runs pretty quite IMO.

Cons: The version i received (on 8-30-09) requires 2 6-pin power connectors. The specs say that it requires a 6-pin and an 8-pin. Luckily, I was prepared for this and bought a PSU that provided 6-pin and 8-pin connectors. (I don't like adapters) it included 2 6-pin adapters though if you need em. Keep in mind if you want to crossfire this you will need 4 connectors. Be prepared that you may receive either the 8/6 or the 6/6 version. Or, heaven forbid, one of each.

I wrote to newegg about this issue. Their response was "Generally, our stock moves so fast that we have the latest version or revision of everything. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to physically get our hands on our most current stock and tell you what revision we have at the moment. Also, we cannot tag a particular item for a particular order. We do not guarantee revision numbers unless it is specifically noted on the description on the website."

So good luck if you decide to roll the dice on revisions.

Other Thoughts: Its big (takes up 2 expansion slots)

Rating + 5 Ggggggggreat!

Pros: Everything about this card is great. Believe it or not it never goes over 60 degrees celcius even while playing crysis maxed out for hours! Frames are amazing. my regular temps are 37 - 50 degrees and 60 max after hours. Paired with the phenom 955 and some oc'd 1600mhz ram good to go, crysis runs smoother on this card and setup then it did with my 4870x2.

Cons: some dumb ***** are still buying Nvidia.

Other Thoughts: I had a 4870x2 previously. This card stomps it, although not quite as many fps it actually seems more smooth and the frames seem to blend in with eachother where as the 4870x2 seemed to have "choppy" frames, not laggy but you can see the difference, trust me!

Pros: Super fast - I know thats not very quantitative, but I can get 38 fps on their included "hawk" game, with the settings all on high and 1920x1200. Two or three of these might improve that, along with overclocking, but I'm not a gamer so it's plenty fast form me. Crysis runs great, too.

Cons: big card, but fits my mid-tower Lian Li

Rating + 5 Exactly as expected

Pros: Overclockable, VRMs don't need additional cooling, solid performance. Mine came with the black PCB and H.A.W.X.. Also, mine required (2) 6-pin connectors.

Cons: A little confusing on what revision you're actually getting. The XFX website doesn't help much either.

Other Thoughts: The card is exactly as I expected. Although the Catalyst Control Center thought that my card could run at 1000MHz/1200MHz, I had to tone it down to 900/1200 for it to be crash-free. I replaced the stock cooler immediately, so I can't comment on what the stock cooler sounds like. I was confused on what version I was getting because on the XFX website it seemed like this model number did not include H.A.W.X. and had a stock PCB, yet everybody said they were getting both HAWX and a black PCB. Also, the only black PCB card on their website was the black edition, which is highly overclocked. For the record, I got a stock-clocked card with a non-reference PCB (both layout and color are different) and I got HAWX. Good game, considering it's free. Last thing: as this is a non-standard card, they changed the VRM area, and none of the VRMs are cooled by the stock heatsink. They seem just fine.

Rating + 5 10/10 for an awesome Graphics Card!

Pros: There are so many pros for this card. The overall workmanship is great! It fit into my case nice and easy, and it has great cooling. I was worried to begin with because my room is hot and my mid tower is cramped with a huge power supply and a bunch of other hardware, but it only gets up to about 63 Degrees Celsius after an all day session of playing Crysis. Did I mention I could play Crysis on high settings with no lag at all?! This card works perfectly with my system... AMD Phenom Quad Core, 8GB Ram, 750Watt Corsair PSU. It also made my system run much smoother, and I didnt think that was even possible!

Cons: The only bad part about this card is the drivers. The card was shipped with some older drivers that caused memory access violation errors for me. I simply upgraded to the latest drivers and haven't had any problems with it since then.

Other Thoughts: This is a simply awesome graphics card! It far exceeded my expectations! I would recommend it to anyone!

Cons: When I load my desktop, the screen always flickers, seemingly when ATI CCC starts. Not that big of a problem. This card also runs very hot. Turn the fan to low, you could melt the card. Turn it too high, you can't hear the games you're playing.

Pros: Price, performance, XFX (great brand) actually shorter than my 9800gt which helped it's fitment.

Cons: ATI drivers, I forgot how they always didn't jive with games like WoW and I'm finding out it's a bit quirky (the new shadowing in game isn't yet supported in the most current ATI driver release). Pros: Looks great. Upgraded from GeForce 7950GX2. Put in Win7 system and DirectX10 looks nice before it crashed.

Cons: Card works fine until I started playing games. All 3 games installed would lock up at some point. Put video card in son's PC and locks up there too. RMA'ing but paying $ to ship back to get new one so had ancient 7300 in computer for a week or 2 for RMA.

Other Thoughts: Box my order came in had the motherboard on top or bottom with NO insulation. was right on the top. So wonder if that affected the video card that was below it. Not sure. But the box was not packaged how I would like it.

1st RMA for me. Sadly will be down for a bit.

Pros: In 1 word, AMAZING. I have always been a Nv1d1a user, but had tried a few different ATI cards over the years as I like to keep an open mind. I always ended up going back to Nv1d1a, but after owning this card I cannot say that is going to be the case. I decided to give ATI yet another try after finding out ATI was now owned by AMD, and could not be happier (or more surprised!). Went from running 2x Nv1d1a 9500GT SLI to a single ATI card and my Windows experience numbers went from 6.5 to 7.6 in W7RC. This card handles ANYTHING I have thrown at it on max settings 1680x1050. Not to mention overclocking over 1Ghz was a breeze! Heat management is amazing, this card stays VERY cool, and it dumps the hot air outside of your case! I will definitely be picking up another of these for X-Fire as soon as the price comes down a little more. On top of that the double lifetime warranty even if failure is caused by overclocking cannot be beaten! If you are undecided, get this card!

Pros: Price

Cons: NON-REFERENCE DESIGN. Meaning most aftermarket coolers will NOT work with this card. I was very angry to find my EK waterblock wouldn't fit on this card.

Other Thoughts: Nowhere in the description does it say that this is a non-reference design board. I don't blame Newegg, I blame XFX. The old version of this card was reference, and would work with 3rd party coolers out there. But they decided to silently change the board design up and complete screw over anyone who wants to upgrade the cooler. Whats surprising is that XFX officially support the use of aftermarket coolers! Guess its easy to support it if you know customers wont actually be able to install one. I'll never buy XFX again after this. Returned to Newegg, buying another brand.

Rating + 4 Hit or Miss

Pros: Takes anything that I can throw at it in crossfire mode with full settings prior to an overclock. Overclocking is hit or miss with these cards, after the 2 I had RMA'ed I am now left with one running card thats stable at 1GHz core @ 1.4v. I will de-clock this card to whatever I can attain within stock volts for crossfire mode with a duplicate card.

Cons: First 2 I had to RMA, both were 6+6pin cards though. Fans were extremely noisy as well at 100% VRMs on one card were significantly hotter than normal as well 105C. Make sure to check with a tool such as GPU-Z.

Other Thoughts: If you somehow manage to get a 6+6pin card send it back for the revised card. Its a totally different revision number so I can only assume that something has been wired differently instead of just slapping on the connector. XFX's warranty covers overclocking and aftermarket heatsinks whether its a waterblock or a zalman vrm cooler with a gpu sink, that is always a plus for me.

Only 4 Eggs due to receiving 2 bad cards in a row. I would think QC would have nailed that but it appears that with the 6+8pin card revision they might have fixed something.

Rig:
i7 920 @4.2GHz C0 stepping

Pros: I overclocked this beast to 950/1150. The core can do 980 running 3DMark06 in numerous loops. But I backed down to 950. Memory wise, artifacts starts showing at 1175, but 1150 is stable. Very fast card.

Cons: kinda runs hot even sitting idle.

Other Thoughts: I read reviews comparing this Radeon HD 4890 to Geforce GTX 275. I must admit the games that I enjoyed playing (Crysis, Far Cry 2, CoD series) all have the GTX 275 beat the HD 4890, leaving the GTX 275 somewhat to be desired.

Rating + 5 Great GPU!

Pros: Great card, runs fairly cool and great performance for the price.

Cons: fan is a little loud under load, but for this kind of performance just a small complaint.

Rating + 5 Great Card!

Pros: I bought two of these card with the intention of running them in crossfire, I didn't have an extra 8 pin PCIE power connector on my PS so I installed a single 4890 then booted up Fallout 3 and GTA4.
Now comparing what I was running before (Zotac 9800 GTX) to the HD-4890 is laughable. I used to have crashes and B.S.O.D's when playing Fallout in Medium
quality with antialiasing turned on. GTA4 even with the GPU fan at 100% and temps around 58-64 Celsius would skip frames and bog down heavily after playing for a few hours.
NOW!
Running the 4890 overclocked through the ATI utility and fan at 100% and playing Fallout MAXED OUT with 8x antialiasing it doesn't skip a beat. My girlfriend played Fallout for over 11hours straight with the GPU fan on automatic and all of my case fans off and she said the game played flawlessly.
This is the nicest card I have ever owned.

Cons: I normally put in at least a week of research before I commit to buying new components for my rig, and not once did I hear anyone mention the fact that crossfire is not supported by windows XP. Thats a pretty big issue that should be made more apparent especially when one is considering spending over $400 just on graphics cards. I detest Vista, and considered briefly trying a dual boot. But honestly I think that two of these cards is overkill. Fallout is maxed out and runs fine on one, so whats the point?
I'm going to have to return the extra 4890, crossfire will have to wait untill XP becomes the equivalent of Windows 98 SE, and supports nothing. I would still run 98 se if it wasn't obsolete. :(

Other Thoughts: Intel core 2 duo 3.0 GHZ stock cooler.
4 gigs Kingston Hyper-X 1066 DDR2
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
XFX Radeon HD-4890!
700 watt OCZ modstream? I dont know its modular...and works. :)
Cooler master HAF
Lamptron Rheostat (45w x6) fan controller running Panaflows.

NewEgg needs put an XP compatibility disclaimer in BOLD on the sales page, Ive been buying from NewEgg for years so Im aloud to add some suggestions right?

Pros: Nice solid air flow on the fan. I use the overdrive program and set the fan to 50% and overclock the core to 1000mhz and the memory to 1100mhz and it runs beautifully

Cons: stock fan speed keeps it a little hot. Can't throw it in any computer and expect to overclock. I recommend a side panel fan to blow direct air at it.

Other Thoughts: Looking to see how well 2 of them will run.

Pros: Very good price, a lot of good reviews

Cons: Unfortunately, I received the model with the 6 pin/8 pin PCI -E connector. I purchased a Antec Sonata III case with the Earthwatts 500watt PSU installed and while the PSU comes with one 8 pin, I needed that for the motherboard (Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P) and as previously mentioned, although unknown to me at the time, I only had 2 6 pin PCI-E connects, so I've been looking for a connectors. None of the stores have one so I had to order one, and being the weekend I got stuck waiting.

Other Thoughts: Will have more news when I finally get my connector. Not happy though that I'm waiting for a $3.99 part for a new system.

Rating + 5 In a word, AWESOME.

Pros: 1. Price. After looking at NVIDIA and ATI cards, this was one of the least expensive cards with 1g of ram and high clock speed. Performance. I mainly play WoW and with everything maxed and I mean everything, at 1900 x 1080 on a 42in LCD TV I still get 60fps except in some spots in Northrend. I didnt check my FPS with the included game HAWXS but the game ran very smooth and looked superb. Most of my other games, World in Conflict, Lord of the Rings Online, and Fallout 3 to name a few, could all be played at the Highest settings with smooth framerates. Its a beast as far as I can tell. Includs a free game, VGA adapter, HDMI adapter and power supply adapters. As previously stated you get sound through the HDMI and would not need to use onboard sound ports unless you wanted to. Its very silent.

Cons: When I used the HDMI I did not get a full screen on my LCD TV. I know it was my TVs fault since my TV does not have the capability to adjust Vert and Horiz settings. So not a knock on the card. So really no cons that I have noticed.

Other Thoughts: I have the 6pin + 8pin version. This is my first build in over 4 years. Last build was an Nvidia 7800gt. Of course this thing blows it out of the watter. I can only imagine what XFire will do for me. 2 of these will really extend the life of your gaming pc. My recent build.
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb.
XFX HD 489A HD 4890 1GB
XCLIO Windtunnel Case
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200
OCZ Platinum 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-D-B 850W Powersupply
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P Motherboard.
Windows Vista 64bit w/SP1

Best PC Ive ever built. Under 1000 bucks.
Beat that Alienware!

Rating + 4 Powerful Card..Crysis detects 'High' for all settings!

Pros: -Powerful
-Can handle Crysis with all settings set to high

Cons: -Long card
-It ges HOT
-Received a faulty card first time
-Second card was also faulty, but I was able to fix.

Other Thoughts: The card is a beast. I installed Crysis and did a auto-detect optimized settings and it set all settings to 'High' automatically. This will be my card for the next 2.5-3 years.

The first card I received did not work. The second card had the fan spinning against the heat cover. I was able to move the heatcover just enough to stop the two from rubbing. XFX includes to molex adapters but recommends against using them. Thats some awful marketing right there...lol. XFX please take a little more time pushing your products out the door. You guys have a good reputation with me and I would hate to see it ruined.

My setup:
1. Intel i7 Processor 2.66Ghz @ 3.2Ghz
2. Intel DX58SO Mother board
3. Radeon XFX 4890 Graphics card
4. Coolermaster Storm Sniper mid-size case
5. 2 - 1 TB Hitachi SATA hard drives (Raid Matrix 1 and 0)
6. 600-Watt modular power supply
7. Coolermaster V8 Cooler (Arctic Silver 5)
8. 3x2gig OCZ Gold 1600 Memory
9. Pioneer 21X DVD/CD-Rom Burner
10. Sony Optiarc 22

Rating + 5 Faster thank Sapphire Vapor X

Pros: Excellent card. I had two sapphire 4890s which are now both replaced by these XFX cards. The cooling is not at all loud unless you manually adjust the fan speed. Definitely not an issue. This card overclocks better than sapphires. Exceeds expectations.

Cons: No pretty LED's or hardware tweaks.

Other Thoughts: Definitely the best brand out there. The packaging is excellent too. Compared to the other video cards I've owned.. HIS, Sapphire, etc... this by far has the best packaging.

Rating + 5 Check dates on reviews

Pros: Received the black pcb+shroud / red heatsink / red DVI port version with 8+6 pin power. Its the exact same body as their "black edition" and looks good with lots of boards.

Its pretty much the fastest thing you can get right now without having to deal with any sli/crossfire headaches, and at the right price.

Cons: Part numbers on XFX website/documentation don't actually match reality. HD489A-ZDFC is supposed to be 850/975 but this model is set to 900/975 default in its BIOS, equivalent to the model ZDD* two speed grades up.

Its in the end users favor if they pay attention, I personally could care less.

Uses 8+6 pin power connectors yet only comes with a pair of 6 pin adapters, however see below.

Other Thoughts: If you're buying a good graphics card you must do your research, theres reviews all over the web. (and on newegg, hint the most recent posts gave plenty of warning)

For all the complaints about having the right connectors, anyone who tries to use a significantly older power supply is asking for trouble on newer cards anyways. Head towards the single slot lower-end models if you are in that camp.
