Rating + 5 Love it !!

Pros: Fan is quite, big overclocker (at least for me), seems to run pretty cool temp wise. Plays Modern Warfare-2 with all the eye candy just about maxed at 1920X1080, and plenty of my other games. Using this card with a e7400 I managed to get to 4000GHz and a 1600fsb all on air. Awesome gaming box at a reasonable cost. Using it with Windows 7 and not one problem or conflict.

Cons: None at all

Other Thoughts: Two of these CrossFire'd at this pricing would be pretty cool I think. Especially with how much you could overclock the primary one if your an overclocker.

Rating + 5 Bang For The Buck

Pros: I dropped this into my game rig as a stop-gap until I can upgrade to a 5xxx grade card, so I could pull the SLI'd 7800GT's out for upgrading some other family computers. Excellent fit for that, overall performance is slightly better (shader effects much better) than those cards provided. Since you've got to jump up to a GF265 ($250+) to do the same trick with NVidia in a single card, I'm impressed.

Cons: Without any cooling for the memory chips (not even fins), you're not going to want to be overclocking this card. Not worth a ding, just a point to watch.

Other Thoughts: Any shader effects in most games are going to be designed with the much lower shader processor count of NVidia chips in mind, so you can go nuts with turning them on. Really adds some nice pop to the visuals.

Rating + 2 GPU Memory DOA

Pros: Great Price. Quick Delivery

Cons: Kept getting a Driver failed and recovered error due to ATIKMDAG.sys. Come to find out after trying it on several systems running everything from XP Pro SP3 to Win7 64 bit on which other ATI cards in the same series worked that it was bad GPU memory on board. Or at least that is what the Geek that I go to thinks it is.

Other Thoughts: Hope to get another card and that it works. If it does I will come back and write another review.

Pros: Stays cool, Great price for something this good, Great performance,

Cons: Had problems with the drivers Microsoft's C++ 2005 conflict with drivers issue was annoying but easily fixed. Catalyst doesn't let you control the fan speed witch is a bummer but ok I guess.

Other Thoughts: If you are on a budget get this card, you will be pleased.

Pros: Quiet, great overclocker, great price

Cons: nil

Other Thoughts: I was expecting this card to perform better than my 1950pro. But this card surpassed all my expextations. I am no seriously thinking how awsome it would be to set up a crossfire system with this card for around $160.00 you could have a killer crossfire set up. Now that's good value

Rating + 5 Good Card

Pros: Great inexpensive card plays most new games well for a single card. Temps are within reason at or about 45c to 50c while gaming fan is quite.

Cons: Did not come with memory heatsinks and it was not free.

Other Thoughts: I purchased the Scythe USA SCVCH-1000 VGA Chip Heatsinks which help with the cooling. I also have it in a set it and forget it not for LAN NZXT Rouge case which I modded with a Front 80mm Fan and I took about a 1/2 inch of metal off the back or more from over the PCI slots to make the card slide in easier.

Rating + 4 Decent card.

Pros: Inexpensive and will run most games at high settings under 1680x1050 resolution.

Cons: You don't get the card that is pictured. Actual card is shorter and has different (cheaper) power components. Didn't come with CrossFire Bridge.

Other Thoughts: A little dissapointed I didn't get what was pictured since I know the difference between different mosfets and chokes on a PCB, this card really cheaps out. Overall performance is good.

Pros: Single slot mounting came in handy when I paired this card with a Zalman VNF100 on a Biostar TA790GX XE Motherboard. Idles at 47C and under game-play rises to 69C which seems acceptable.

Cons: Factory supplied fan is noticeable but not annoying.

Rating + 5 Son of a...

Pros: Wow. Just wow. I bought this card for a new build after having a 5 year old gaming computer, and let me just say, this was a HUGE IMPROVEMENT. Im so used to being limited to what games I can play, this card has given me my freedom. This card has taken everything I've thrown at it (Unreal Tournament 3, World in Conflict, Fallout 3, Call of Duty 4 & 5, Bioshock, HAWX), its like the games dont even phase it. It runs cool, quiet, and it play pretty much anything short of Crysis. Again, AMAZING!

Cons: STALKER: Clear Sky kinda sucks. I played it for maybe 20 minutes, and I lost interest immediately. But hey, it was free, and it was worth a shot.

Other Thoughts: I should have bought 2. But I dont have the second port for it :( A totaly buy.

Rating + 5 Great Card!

Pros: I bought this card to replace my 7300 le (came with my dell), and now I can play my games all on max setting. I am currently able to play Left 4 Dead at 100+ (40/50 the lowest) fps with max setting, and AAX4. I think my CPU is bottle necking and causing a bit lower fps - my PC is 3 years old. Lastly, this card runs cool and it is very quiet.

Cons: Nothing I guess. I just wish I had a better CPU.

Other Thoughts: If you are conflicted on whether to buy a 4830 or a 4850, go with this card, or any other 4830. Yes 4850 has more stream processors; but this late in the game where DX11 is coming out, it is not worth the extra 50+ bucks. Invest in this now, and a year or two down the road, buy a fancy new card that will support DX11.

Pros: Bought it mainly to upgrade my old 8400 GS in my spare PC so my kids could play Age of Conan with me, and it worked out WAY better than i hopes. Its running in a PCIx16 1.0 slot even, and on a 400 watt power supply, with a pentium E 2.0ghz dual core, and this thing plays AoC on highest settings, w/o AA though, at 1440 x 900 res at a smooth 35-50 FPS. I didn't expect it be that good, being a underpowered and choked down to a 1.0 slot but i am impressed. Would give more eggs if i could but it will have to settle for 5 lol..

Cons: none.

-stays cool, idles at 34c-36c, in game temps are around mid 40c's
-very, very quite i can barely hear it. fan running at 50%

Cons: as soon as i bought it it dropped 8 bucks. my fault though...

Cons: Worked for 2 weeks, then the RAM on the card died. I had to pay to get it shipped back to newegg, its been over 2 weeks and I still do not have the replacement card.

Rating + 5 4830 has the best FPS for the dollar

Pros: the 4830 series gives the highest performance per dollar right now. Comparible in performance to a 9800 gt (rebadged 8800 gt) but significantly cheaper. grab one before they quit making them. actually, grab 2.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: 2 of these in crossfire smoke a 1GB 4870 and GTX 260. Even gives the 4870 X2 a run at any resolution. Check the prices, that is amazing.

Rating + 5 Crossfile Rules

Pros: Quiet, Easy install, shipped with all 640 pixel shaders enabled. Works with full crossfire from the latest (Catalyst 9.3 @ the time of this writing) drivers in my ati580 chipset (Asus M2R32-MVP).

Cons: No crossfire bridge. Good thing I read other posts and they said the same thing . Nice of Newegg to sell a crossfire bridge seperately - H.I.S. brand at that. Still give it 5 eggs.

Other Thoughts: The introduction of the 4890 has pushed down prices of the 4870s across Newegg while these have pretty much remained the same. Consider that hard before taking the plunge. I bought a couple of weeks before the price drop, though no regets.

Rating + 4 Works OK w/ Linux.

Pros: Quiet, stays relatively cool in my case, etc.

Cons: Can't make toast with it (see above).

Other Thoughts: As this is reviewing the manufacturer's product as opposed to ATI's Linux support, this seems the best place to mention that while it normally works fine with fglrx and not very well but not poorly with xf86-video-ati you will probably run into random crashes and occasional screen corruption with some regularity.

Pros: 640 shaders were already enabled when it arrived. Cool and Quiet. With Folding@Home GPU running the GPU load to 97%, the GPU temperature maxes out around 55C.

Rating + 5 Check your card with GPU-Z!!!!

Pros: Make sure you get a program called GPU-Z - it is free. Check the # of Stream Processing units your card shows in GPU-Z. It should be 640, but some only come up with 560 like mine did. This means is was accidentally gimped by the bios. It is fixable by flashing the bios and is very easy. I did it and I now have a fully functional card. This WILL affect you performance so check it out.

Cons: This is just an update - I have reveiwed the card already.

Other Thoughts: I have noticed a few extra frames in Crysis by doing this. Not a huge change, but helpful.

Rating + 5 GREAT CrossfireX Card

Pros: I got this as a slave card for CrossfireX with my other HD 4830(ASUS EAH4830 512m to be exact) and this card blew me away. Not only was the single card performance at 1920x1080 great but two is just plain awesome. The cooler on this card works GREAT. It cools better than my ASUS card and is dead silent.

Cons: Doesn't OC quite as high as my ASUS card but it's still a good enough clocker to run a single card setup with. No Crossfire bridge was murder.. Had to buy a few off of friends. My motherboard came with a bridge but it was kind of long.

Other Thoughts: AMD Athlon X2 7750(Kuma, Phenom X2 essentially) @ 3.2ghz, 4gb Corsair XMS2 800mhz, MSI DKA790GX Platinum, HD 4830 Crossfire, FSP Mod-Power 700w Modular, Raidmax Katana Case.

Rating + 4 Darn good card for the money

Pros: Great price, good card and chip set, runs my games with high resolution, with X8 antilansing and high quality shadows and hardly a hiccup...

Cons: I did get one of the 560 shader processor cards...*sighs*..I have vista 64 bit on my system... Had to flash the bios from dos boot disk.. ATIwinflash doesnt work with vista 64... Took my hours to figure out what to do for a 1 minute flash.. My biggest beef is no ATI crossfire bridge. I plan to buy another to crossfire, and now have to buy a bridge..

Other Thoughts: Though the initial pain of flashing the bios, coupled with the lack of a crossfire bridge had me drop it from 5 eggs to 4...overall happy with the product though...

Rating + 5 Good Card

Pros: It works! Mine had 640 Stream Processors unlike a few other people. I am surprised by the performance of this card. It is almost up there with the 4870 in my LANBOX. (This card went in my office computer.) I can play Far Cry 2 all settings maxed with DX10 @ 35fps. This is an awesome product.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I wasted a lot of money on a 4870. This card was $200 less and almost the same performance.

Pros: Card installs easily and runs cool and quiet.

Cons: Card was one that had the shader processor count issue from the older BIOS. Could not get the BIOS flash from the manufacturer to work. Tried multiple times and had no luck. Have purchased a Sapphire card instead and will be sticking to the brand I know in the future.

Other Thoughts: Card is not bad overall, just does not run at the spec that is advertised. If you are on a tight budget and don't mind the card running under spec, this could be a good card for you. If you can afford to go slightly higher in price, I'd skip this card and possibly this manufacturer altogether.
Manufacturer Response:Thank your for your enquiry about the product.

Please kindly go through the Serial number verification and BIOS upgrade process specified in HIS FAQ Section. You can find the latest 4830 BIOS provided by our engineer. Please verify your serial number first and then run the shaders number checking program. Then you can upgrade the BIOS and reboot system. If you still fail to upgrade, we promise to send you a new card for replacement.

Feel free to contact our support team at (408) 331-8847 to walk through the troubleshooting.

Rating + 2 Beware of this card

Pros: Fast in games, played everything I could throw at it at max settings, great overclocking headroom, looks good, quiet cooler under all conditions!

Cons: Dual slot, cooler is inefficient - load temp: 73C, idle: 42C, no heatsinks on RAM, package has nothing in it - only card and DVI-VGA adapter, no HDMI (maybe have to contact HIS to get it shipped for free, but Sapphire includes this be default in all cards), no Crossfire cable.

Other Thoughts: Low rating is for problem with Shader Processors amount. This particular card (not any other HD 4830) comes with only 560 SPs enabled, instead of 640, as should be. Tried their flashing BIOS fix form HIS website, doesn't do anything. Wrote e-mail to HIS, no response. NewEgg had promotion for a free game with 2 Radeon HD 4800 cards, but no game ever came - I was advised HIS shipped only limited amount of game copies, but the promotion on newegg is still on! Poor coordination. My recommendation - stay away from this particular HIS card, it may have less SPs and HIS isn't helpful.

Pros: I received it with 640 shaders, runs great. However, beware that you need to reinstall Windows after installing this card. I thought the heatsink wasn't going to be good enough but I was wrong, this thing hoovers around 41C and there is room to push the speeds.

Cons: None, the card is great.

Other Thoughts: Use drivers from CD, online drivers have issues.

Rating + 5 Amazing value

Pros: Too much focus was put towards the 560 pipeline bios issue. It litterally takes 2.5 minutes to flash the bios right from windows. Tada 640 shader pipes open... Overall excellent performing card... Unbeatable value for a mid-high range card... Cost me 115$ after rebates (CAD$)... since when can you get a card this high in the video card spectrum for that cheap. Sure it's no 4870, but still miles ahead of the mid-range 4600 stuff... Props HIS!

Runs GTA IV at 1280x1080 with everything at highest settings including AA, Filtering, etc. at 45+ FPS in the benchmark.

System : E7300 stock speeds

Cons: Card is thick with the cooler, but not really an issue as I don't have anything in the PCI slots...

Rating + 5 cheap, fast

Pros: For the price (even before the rebate), it's a fantastic deal. After the rebate, it's unbeatable. Card is relatively quiet, pretty efficient, etc.

Cons: Came with 560 shaders, but it literally took 2 minutes and a reboot to fix that. Card is also quite big: I had to move around some stuff in my case to fit it in. A 6-pin pcie to molex adaptor would have been nice.

Other Thoughts: The 560 shader thing is trivial to deal with, and the card performs beautifully. Totally worth it.

Rating + 5 Good Value

Pros: A good amount of power for the price, this is a great value. Cooler is very effective in cases with decent ambient airflow.

Cons: Cooler is ineffective if your case does not have any airflow in the lower section.

Other Thoughts: This card is pretty close in performance to an 8800GT. It's good enough for your budget rigs and average gamers. It's not an enthusiast card though, and you're not going to be blowing away any benchmarks here. The cooler on it is great if you have some airflow in your case, but is completely ineffective if you don't. Make sure you have at least one fan moving air in the lower area of your case, and this will stay cool.

Rating + 2 outdated BIOS

Pros: In theory a good value.

Cons: Came with old BIOS, only 560 stream processing units enabled (not the end of the world if you're comfortable with finding the right BIOS and flashing).
Causes certain apps that probe hardware to hang with 100% CPU usage.
PCB longer than it needs to be (there are other, smaller 4830s).
Doesn't provide enough HD video acceleration for smooth playback of 1080 or even 720 content with an older processor (single-core a64).

Other Thoughts: Avoid the HIS version.
Manufacturer Response:Dear HIS Customer,

Pros: Does exactly as it says it should, fits right in my tower works great for my needs runs really quiet , all the fans for power , graphics card, cpu processor etc. and the air pump on my fish tank is loudest HAHA!HA! easy to install and download drivers, ATI web pretty simple too for driver updates . Has some cool features I played around with for the real inthusiastics, overclocking , multiple window assignments and all the other cool stuff
to play with. I like it! My system isnt real jam up, Just Intel pent 4 , 4 yrs old well maintained. Dell 5150
gets the job done.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I hope it runs more than a year, AM I expecting too much??

Rating + 2 Good card if it had all SP's.

Pros: Good video card for the Money, beats the 9800GT is ver comparable to the 4850 when overclocked. I would avoid this particular card though. READ CONS AND OTHER THOUGHTS!

Cons: Using the GPU-Z utility it showed that only 560 Shader processors were in use, I used a few other utilities just to confirm, and they all showed the same 560 sp figure. HIS's website has a bios update for the card that should of fixed it. Instead it caused my computer to not start up. I put in my old video card in, and my computer works again.I Switched them out again just to make sure and the same thing happens.

Other Thoughts: Be wary of the bios update. Hopefully you won't end up with a crippled 4830 hint(avoid HIS brand). Newegg is wonderful!!! I decided to RMA for refund, and get a 4850 instead. Out of Courtesy they gave me free overnight shipping. avoid HIS 4830's they are the only manufacturer that received the crippled batch of 4830's that were made for pre-release reviews. Shame ATI Shame on HIS for taking them! ;)

Rating + 4 Great Card!

Pros: Runs every game I've thrown at it maxed out.
Fan noise is real low. I cant hear it over my case fan.
It runs warm but it's specd to run a little warm. Its hasnt locked up yet.
I've ocd it to 650mhz on the core and 990X2 on the ram and it is stable with no lock ups, no artifacting.
Ive tested Geas of War, Far Cry 2, Mercenaries 2, and Brother in Arms Hells Highway all at 1600X1050 with all the details maxed out and they all ran FLAWLESS.
The cost is just ridiculously word it.

Cons: The heatsink is so big it might block a pci slot depending on your MB. It is HUGE!
Mine came with the notoriously wrong bios on it which had only 580 pipes open when it should have had 640. Since I got mine literally 3 days after release I was hard pressed to find a resolution. After some researching I got the correct bios and flashed it and it now works great! HIS' website is minimal, and they are located in Hong Kong with no 800 number. I emailed them regarding the problem and fully a 9 days later they responded with the solution. I had fixed it 8 days earlier.

Other Thoughts: I only gave it 4 eggs because of the Bios issue and HIS' bad response. I know that doesnt effect performance of the card which is what I should be rating it on but still...it annoyed me. Or just blame it on the fact that 3 days after I bought it, newegg lowered the cost 20 bucks and brought the 4850 down to just 5 bucks more than what I paid for this card. That REALLY bothered me but oh well. It's a great card, easily overclockable to 4850 lvs without the extra 160 pipes, and it will last at least a year for gaming. It won't dissapoint.

Rating + 5 Great Value Card

Pros: Larger cooler than reference design
Low power usage
Great price for 4800 series card
Low noise fan

Cons: Temp is a little high, but not in comparison to standard 4800 seires cards. mine idles at 43 in my case.

Other Thoughts: This card will allow you to play games at decent framerates up to 1680x1050. Beyond that, you're looking at a 4850. But you can't expect too much from a $130 card.
I use mine for heavy Photoshop and Lightroom use along with gaming. It works fantastic.
I upgraded from a G90 8800GTS 320MB card. My power usage dropped a whole 30+ watts!! Also memory usage compared to nVidia driver is lower.
I'm using Vista 64 Ultimate.

Rating + 5 Its like a 4850 jr

Pros: It's everything the 4850 is but a little weaker... yet if you can get your o/c like my by a few hundred you at 4850 performance and you save ALOT of money... not really ALOT but you saved about 20-50 bucks.. it's worth it when you have dedicated paychecks

Cons: It's a little loud... and isn't as sexy as if i had on of those double coolers... its stays around the 40-50's in my case... and when gaming it goes up to aobut 60-75's... didn't put to much extra heat in my case... but fills it up replacing my onboard 780g

Other Thoughts: Buy it if your at a budget like me, its worth every single penny you invest... i got mine of some dude from craigslist... but over all it's worth it... and crossfire X is no joke in this...
