Rating + 5 If you need PCI, this'll do

Pros: It works, fast enough for what I need it to do (HTPC with XBMC). Plugged it into an older Via EPIA motherboard and it came to life. Passively cooled.

Cons: None so far.

Rating + 4 Well above my expectations.

Pros: Works great. Received a 2.8 and 4.9 on Windows 7 experience index for Graphics and Gaming Graphics respectively.
DirectX 10 and Open GL support.
I am an IT professional but even a 1st grader could read and understand the installation instructions.
Multiple displays is very nice... but does require the use of both VGA and DVI or S-Video.

Cons: Had to find the proper windows 7 drivers online.
Fanless cooler is a bit bulky but works great.
The card occupies 1 PCI slot but blocks a second one with it's heatsink (this is also because I have a crowded MotherBoard).

Other Thoughts: I am using this machine primarily for developing software, both gaming and productivity software, this card was supposed to be just the cheapest thing I could find. This card however is much better than I expected it to be, in fact it is exactly what I wanted (minus the initial installation hickup). The support for both Open GL and DirectX is great for developing on different platforms.

Rating + 5 Awesome

Pros: The card was moderately easy to install. After installing the drivers, my 7 year old desktop runs better than my 3 year old laptop! I can also use a DVI connection rather than VGA.

Cons: Doesn't make my desktop transform?

Other Thoughts: The whole desktop just received a new lease on life, and I would probably even use this card in a new pc with integrated graphics on a pinch. MUCH better than my laptop's 945G.

Rating + 4 Good Card

Pros: 1.It supports all the versions of Windows from Windows 98 up to Windows 7.
2.It plays a whole lot of great 3d games.
3.It has a standard monitor port,a S-video port,and of course a DVI port.
4.It is fanless therefore very quiet.
5.It is a great cheap way to get a old pc ready for Windows 7.

Cons: 1.It does not do HD.
2.The Heatsink is so thick on it it covers 2 pci slots ,so a rearrangement of cards may be necessary in order to use this card.

Other Thoughts: I like this card very much and would recomend this card to anyone who wishes to game that is on a tight buget.

Rating + 5 Performs it's intended purpose well.

Pros: Does it's job.
Order it on a Sunday... It processed, shipped, and was at my doorstep by noon the next day.

Cons: Driver disc didn't have 64-bit XP drivers.
Not a big deal, I was gonna download an updated driver from Nvidia anyways.
Definitely not enough of a "Con" to dock an Egg.

Other Thoughts: I ordered this card for my brother.
Video was blown on his motherboard, so I purchased this card to replace it.

He doesn't need a powerful card and I wasn't gonna replace the power supply as well as the video card... so this card was perfect. I just wish I checked the dimensions on the card, it was too big to fit nicely next to his PCI wireless card. Not a con because I overlooked that. Ordered a PCI Express wireless card (to replace his now useless wireless card) today... I wonder if it'll get here by noon tomorrow lol.

Rating + 4 GeForce 8400 GS

Pros: I bought this card to replace my FX 5200 which I am personally terrified of now. (It makes scary noises when you turn it on.) This one can't growl at me like the other one.

This card has improved the performance on the games I play more than I expected it would. The biggest note about it is that it plays The Sims 3 on medium settings very nicely. If you have an older PC and want to play The Sims 3 then buy this card.

Cons: Since I installed it I can hear a very strange noise when I minimize and maximize windows. I can only describe it as a high pitched electrical...tone...thing. I can only hear it if my speakers are turned up high and I'm wearing my headphones. Somehow it seems to be interfering with my sound card. But really, how does a graphics card interfere with sound?

Rating + 4 Windows 7 compatible.

Pros: Personally I use this as a video card to handle a third monitor. But I've done some tests for all those other Newegg buyers out there!

YES! IT IS WINDOWS 7 COMPATIBLE!

-Able to handle DVD movie playback.
-Will handle 2 monitors.... just barely.

You can play:
-Halo at low and medium settings.
-Half-life 1, Team Fortress 1, and Counter Strike 1.6 at reasonable settings. I would assume it could play all of Valve's first gen games. But those are the ones I tested.
-The Sims 2 will play on the lowest settings.
-Diablo and Diablo II will play on it.
-This is just like ever video card I've ever seen... it'll play Starcraft. (Honestly never found a video card that couldn't play Starcraft. BTW... I've seen a lot of video cards.)
-Doom 3 at medium settings.
-Unreal Tournament 2003
-Far Cry
And I'm out of space.
And there's lots more I tested but can't put here, but those give a general idea of what this card can handle. Look to the Other thoughts for the games it couldn't ha

Cons: WILL NOT HANDLE HD!!!! WILL NOT HANDLE HD!!!

Why it can't handle HD:
The problem isn't that the card's chipset can't handle the video resolution, it's quite capable of that, the problem lies within the PCI bus, PCI maxes out at what can be equated to 133mb/s. Simply not fast enough to handle the movement of 1920x1080 video at 30 frames per second.

-Can get hot if not well ventilated. Heat is the enemy of every piece of electronic equipment. Make sure your case has proper ventilation (at least one fan built into the case) if you choose a fanless videocard.

Other Thoughts: It can't handle:
-Fallout 3
-Half-Life 2 or any of the source based games.
-BTW... those source games include Left 4 Dead... :O :(
-Far-cry 2
-Borderlands
-Crysis (I know, I'm Ridiculous)
-Dawn of war 40k ( I was surprised too.)
-Dead Space
-FEAR (therefore no FEAR 2 either)
-World In Conflict
-Bioshock
-Batman Arkham Asylum

I tired all the widely known games I have to give the most complete review. I hope the testing is useful to someone.

Rating + 5 3 monitors the cheep way

Pros: The card is silent, compact, and economical. Installed and worked right out of the box without any issues. Doesn't ad any noise to the system or require extra power cables.

Cons: Since the the unit is fan less it takes up a lot of room, and covers the PCI slot next to the PCI slot being used for the card. This is clearly visible from the product images so it wasn't a surprise for me.

Other Thoughts: Easy and cheap way to get three monitors on my system. I'm using a Dell Optiplex 760 desktop case (slim low profile case) which only had the on board Intel graphics and one VGA out. This card gave me two more video outs, so now I have three monitors running. The only thing I had to do was switch the on board graphics to primary after installing the card, otherwise it would be turned off when the system booted.
It's a little funky, wouldn't recommend it for 3D gaming, but it works for office productivity and systems management. It's really nice to have Outlook maximized in one window, my word and excel documents up in the center monitor, and my alerts dashboard up on the third monitor to the right.

Rating + 5 Awesome.

Pros: Great video quality (to my standards), has not yet overheated, uses a lot less power than most video cards, good price

Cons: Not the best "top-of-the-line" card you can get, a little hard to install

Other Thoughts: I was looking for a video card to play new games like Team Fortress 2 and Portal, but my integrated card couldn't do the job. I hopped onto Newegg here to find a video card. Unfortunately, I soon realized almost all good video cards require a fan, which requires power, which requires a good power supply, which was also something I didn't have. Thankfully, I found this card, which was passive, so it used a lot less power, and was pretty cheap too. After much struggle, I finally got my computer to send video out of the video card. While I didn't notice any difference on my desktop, I could at least play my games, which is all I needed.

Rating + 1 Most games won't run with this card

Pros: Good price, easy to install.

Cons: The driver software is practically useless. Display drivers (fully updated, updated motherboard, etc) crash on numerous programs. This is a very poorly supported piece of hardware and will not perform well for the types of programs it was designed to run. I would not recommend this card to anyone.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card so my older computer (1.5ghz, XP, 2GB ram) could play older games (e.g., AoE III, Civ IV, RTW). In some cases these were programs I had run reasonably well with a much older card. Now I can't run any of them. I'd return this card if I hadn't installed a fan on it. Now I'm just going to throw it out and reinstall the old one. Complete waste of time and money.

Pros: Bought it so I can play games like Borderlands, and it gets the job done.

Cons: The VGA port doesn't work. I spent all night trying it, thinking I was installing the card wrong, messing around with the old card, drivers, and BIOS, thinking something must be wrong. Finally my roommate suggested I try his DVI cable and it worked no problem. Not too much of a con, as it just means I have to buy a new cable, but it would've been nice to have not wasted my night trying to use VGA.

Rating + 5 great card so far

Pros: One of the most powerful options for the PCI interface (and not even half bad compared to some of the AGP options considering both interfaces are pretty much dead at this point), and it's passively cooled so it makes no noise. It helped me resurrect an old Pentium 3 933mhz system I had lying around that had terrible integrated video that I wanted to use for some of my XP apps that aren't compatible with Vista/Win 7. Seemed to dramatically improve general system performance.

Cons: Not so much a con, as a tidbit of info: it's a two slot card, so make sure you have room before buying it

Other Thoughts: Cheap and gave me DVI, dual monitor support, and a nice boost in general performance.

Specs on Retro PC: P3 933mhz Coppermine, 512mb PC133, Intel 810 mobo, Geforce 8400GS

Rating + 3 TV-Out users Beware!

Pros: Reasonable price.
Good 3D performance.
Easy installation with plenty of features.

Cons: Nvidia decided to remove some of the functionality of the TV out port. You can no longer use the "full screen video" setting on the DVI port with Nvidia cards. The only way to get a full screen video to play on your TV is to maximize the video on the computer screen as well, tying up the system for the duration of the video and reducing picture quality. The "full screen video" feature has been present in previous card for many years back (to Geforce 2 iirc) and suddenly removing it with no warning seems dishonest to me.

Other Thoughts: Most people probably won't take issue with this missing feature but if taking full advantage of the TV-out functionality is important to you, the competing brand is your only choice for now.

Pros: Vista drivers

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: These are cheap cards and you get what you pay for. I needed them to upgrade to vista on some old PCI only boxes that had intel 800 series graphics, which don't have vista drivers. If you want a card for better graphics performance, get a MB with PCIe first.

Rating + 4 great little card

Pros: I needed a good card that wasnt expensive so I gave this one a shot, and for being a PCI card rather than PCI-E, its really good, my DVD's look great, I install the lates driver from Nvidia rather than the CD and it works great. and its fanless so I dont have to worry about any fan noise.

Cons: it does warm up a little.

Rating + 1 Unhappy

Pros: None worst video card i have ever had the pleasure to waste money on.

Cons: Had to rma my card the same day it arrived. :(

They seem to be reselling the same busted video cards over and over. I did not notice until i had to rma my card the day i got it that it had came straight from their rma warehouse. So unless you like wasting 10 bucks to restock fees and return shipping on a 40 dollar car avoid like the plague. Your onboard video wil bench mark higher than this card.

Other Thoughts: Been a loyal customer for a while now but seeing as they will just resell rma'd cards i guess it is time to find another site.

Pros: Not a single one to be found this card is worse than onboard video.

Cons: Card bench marked lower than my onboard video. Took 6 crashes to get drivers to install. Would not even make the one minute mark on a stability test without crashing computer. Ten minutes into use it got so hot you could fry a egg on it.

Other Thoughts: What a waste of money now have to pay return shipping plus a restock fee. This card should be taken off the site it is just a ripoff because you will have to send it back.

Rating + 1 Your mileage may vary

Pros: Price....
It would make a nice hand warmer.

Cons: Overheated and crashed system. After installing drivers it would refuse to boot. Switched it out for another 8400 card and it booted fine. It was boiling hot when I took it out. Couldn't get a temp readin cause it would crash when I tried to access the card. I guess it was a defect, but I suspect it is just bad cooling. It looked fine though the box it was shipped in looked like the one at the beginning of Ace Ventura.

Other Thoughts: Ace Ventura was really funny when it came out.....

Tested with
Windows 7 190 driver (didn't recognise card)
Windows XP 190 Driver (froze on reboot on black screen after logo screen no cursor)
Linux 2.6.28-14 180 driver (Froze on GDM with cursor and KDM with cursor. Froze on X with cursor locked up machine, no response to virtual terminals, ssh, or ping after installing nvidia drivers, worked fine until I launched X, or modprobe nvidia)

Rating + 2 Bad performance

Pros: Have a dvi port

Cons: Slower than integrated graphics.
Driver crashes during windows assessment so the score is 1.0 (nv driver 190, 186, 185)
driver 183 and below gives windows score of 2.0 (ie no crash), but is REALLY slow for vector drawing and font etc. Even interned browser is slow to scroll

Other Thoughts: Using on shuttle K45. Connecting to monitor with 1920x1080 resolution
one thing observed is that the card uses a pcie to pci converter, with the gpu running in pcie 1x mode
another thing observed is that a 6200 is even faster than this.

Basically, don't buy. It's not worth it

Rating + 5 Maybe great, but not for Foxconn R10-S4

Pros: I have not been able to use this card so the rating is not a reflection of the card. Good specs on this card for the money. I wish it worked for me (see Cons below).

Cons: This was purchased to go in a Foxconn R10-S4 barebone kit. Unfortunately, it will not fit because the large heat sync on this card overwhelms the minimal clearance of that unit. If you are considering this card for use in that Foxconn small form factor kit keep looking.

Pros: Supports DX10 with Vista, but i use it on xp. Warm but not hot when at full load. I ran 3dmarks06 3x in a row and the heat sink was only warm not hot. Only one case fan. 3dmarks o6 scored 897 with intel atom 230 mini-itx and 1gb ram. Came with two low profile brackets. Also came in a newer nicer retail box than the one showed on new egg... The box was actually the 8400gs PCIE but with a sticker that said PCI. Plays Crysis at 800x600 low settings 16-20 fps on the intel atom 230. Left4Dead steady 30+ at 800x600 high settings. Bioshock played at 20+ med settings also.

Cons: Killer for some older games. WOW with inels atom 230 mini-itx mobo here on new egg, I was getting 14fps all on medium fighting mobs. But with the 8400gs i was only getting 7fps and that was all on low settings. 2moons also suffered poor performance slower than the GMA950. I disabled the GMA950 via bios and windows to make sure it was not eatting up any of the pci bandwith.

Other Thoughts: I purchased an Intel 230 mobo here on newegg to build a HTPC just for kicks. Purchased an APEX mini case Intel 230 atom mobo and 1gb ram at max speed supported by mobo. the GMA950 was doing fine for what I needed as i wasnt playing any HD content. Already have 360 that plays h.264xvid outstandingly and a Bluray player. So this was mainly for hulu and for the enjoyment of building a new system for under $180. Then i found a thread on techowerup about pci cards people were buying to play games on old rigs, fig that atom was about as powerful as a p4 2.5ghz via passmark performance test. I was itching to try it out myself and at $40 and he option to rma if i wanted to I was sold. Performance was impressive was able to play bioshock, crysis, and Left4dead but not WOW or 2Moons. This isn't a gaming system as I have that already but just a go at what PCI and Atom cold achieve.

Rating + 5 Does what I excpected

Pros: Runs Sims 3 on medium settings quite well, I haven't tested video like movies or anything, but it seems to do its job

Cons: Not really any, just make sure you get the new driver from nvidia's website after you put the CD one on your computer because it's not all the way up to date. It would take up two PCI slots, but I just put mine on the top slot so the heatsink isn't in the way of anything. Not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people said they had problems with installation, and that the CD was bad, but I really had no issues with the CD, everything came in perfect condition. The only thing that confused me was that I have integrated graphics (Dell Dimension e310) and I had to make the new card the primary monitor in display settings. It still thinks I have two monitors, but that really doesn't matter. I didn't have to disable the other graphics, but I still could, but it shows no sign of interfering with the new card. I'm happy with my purchase, even if it was just a bit overpriced.

Pros: Does what I wanted it to do. I'm using it in an older Dell poweredge server that I've converted into a network computer to watch my media content from the bedroom. Plays 720p movies great (with the proper codecs, that is). Great price, usually PCI cards have really inflated prices.

2.4ghz Celeron
512mb RAM
cheap PCI sound card
this video card
PCI wireless network adapter

Cons: Can't handle 1080p, even with CoreAVC. Perhaps it could if I had more system RAM and a more powerful CPU, not sure.

Other Thoughts: I'm happy with it all around. Was hoping for 1080p playback but I can't complain at this price.

Rating + 1 Junk

Pros: None.

Cons: Won't work in a Dell OptiPlex GX110. Will not boot. I can't even enter the BIOS with it. I see the initial startup screen, and then it locks up with a blank screen. Piece of junk. Buy at your own risk. I have to pay return shipping to RMA it now.

Other Thoughts: I tried everything. Since the Dell OptiPlex doesn't have the BIOS option to turn off the onboard video (it has only 'onboard' and 'auto'), I tried onboard, and then installed the drivers from the disc. No go. Same problem when I re-enabled 'auto' mode after reboot. In any case, you would think that this board would at least display the BIOS output.

Pros: Easy to fit in and install. takes up 2 pci slots.

Cons: Tried but didnt work with my dell dimmension, so i decided to build a pc around it and hope it will work. It also wouldnt let me view the bios after the card was put in, and wouldnt boot into windows when in the pci slot.

Other Thoughts: I would say to forget this card and spend a little extra for a AGP version because it's easier. The card ran extremely hot and when i took it out to get into bios it would burn my hand it was so hot. Spend the extra 5 and get somthing a bit better. I also emailed Sparkle about ti and no replay so i would stay clear of this one...

Rating + 4 Decent Card

Pros: The card fits into older computer models, runs hot for intense applications, includes Pixel Shader 4.0, can support newly released games, and is easy to install.

Cons: The card does take up two PCI slots (unless you can fit it on your bottom slot) and the locking screw inputs were loose (but can easily be tightened).

Other Thoughts: I bought this card because I recently purchased a few new games that required a higher graphics card. The price is high, but overall the card seems worth it.

To anyone looking for Sims 3 supported cards, this card is supported. I have ran the game for a week without any problems.

Rating + 4 Pretty good for additional monitors

Pros: Good amount of memory, and nice Vista support for PCI. Also, this performs admirably as a PhysX card, allowing my 9800GT to concentrate on graphics. Additionally, despite my cramped case, it seems to run nice and cool. Definitely worth the small investment if you cannot add a PCIe card.

Cons: Look closely at the pictures. The heatsink takes two slots. Not a big problem if you have the room. I was able to still fit it on the bottom slot of my mATX case (InWin) without sacrificing a PCI slot, but others may not be so lucky.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to add a 3rd monitor to my system. Very nice preview card for standard def video editing, but runs a little slow when editing HD. Most editing suites (I use Vegas) can adjust preview resolution to compensate, so this is not much issue anyways.

Newegg rocks. UPS rocks. The end.

Rating + 5 Does its job.

Pros: uses a heatsink and no fan, making it quiet.

overall this is a great buy if you aren't up to date with pci 2.0. this is really the only high performance card for a PCI 1 slot out there, and it works great. up to 2560x1600 resolution output, high performance card, low cost, reliable, good buy.

Cons: uses a heatsink and no fan, making it run hotter for intense applications.

Other Thoughts: i bought this for my dad, as his computer is a pretty old computer. he wanted to work on his computer at higher resolutions, and his onboard graphics only supported up to 1024x768, and he had just bought a 22" flatscreen, which is nice, but if you are playing at 1024x768, it looks like... bad...

so i bought this card, and currently displaying the resolution at 1600x1050.

this card works great at what it's meant to do, so don't comment saying "0mg it doesnt play crysis at 2560x1600 with 16xAA!!! 0mg bad card!!!"

this card isnt a gaming card, so don't rate it as one.

Pros: Great GPU in a cheep card, best option if you only have PCI slots.

Rating + 2 good while it lasted

Pros: plays most of the game that i play great, easy to install

Cons: too expensive for 256 MB, covers up an extra pci slot, *more explained in other thoughts*

Other Thoughts: my Video card was working perfectly for just 1 week, this week, but i bought it in march, and i thought something would be fishy because it looks like it was tampered with alot. The Blue VGA port looks scratched and the silver metal bar that hooks in your computer case was bent... but this was a great card. i just did not like the one i received. I've been trying to contact newegg and sparkle for a while, but i never received a message back from one of them...

Rating + 3 Re: Good Little Video Card (Andy)

Pros: pricing for a friends replacement.

Cons: ??

Other Thoughts: Andy, 135F (52C) is really not that bad for a GPU. it is actually about as cool as you can expect todays GPUs to run on air, without a monster after market HSF or water cooling.
GPUs run hotter than CPUs, and commonly idle in 50 - 60C (122-140F) range. so don't let that worry you, don't get worried until it is Idling above 65/70C or above about 80C under load.

Rating + 5 Excellent VDPAU Card

Pros: Despite what I've been reading about VDPAU (h264 video accel on linux) and 256mb video cards not having enough VRAM, I bought this card anyway. This card manages to run all 1080p content I've thrown at it so far. I'm running mplayer svn 4/22/09, nvidia driver 185.19, and Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04.

Cons: Can get hot if you don't have enough airflow. My case has two 120mm fans. With 1 fan running (front of case) the card gets into the 70C range idle, but with both fans running I'm into the 50-60C range idle, which is reasonable.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card specifically for VDPAU support and it excels at running accelerated HD video.

Rating + 3 I don't have to go to the kitchen to fry my eggs anymore!

Pros: It's a good way to run quad-head if you don't have two pci-e slots on your motherboard. You'll have to use an analog cable for one of the outputs, though.

Cons: This this is freaking hot. Like, 105C at idle hot. Or so that's what Ubuntu's temperature monitor app says. I'm hoping the card is actually reporting the temperature in F and the app is confused... In any case, it seems to be running fine at that temperature, with no rendering artifacts... The pci-e 8800gt sitting beside it is idling at about 55C, and has a heatsink half the size, including the fan....

The heat sink is humongous. Even larger after hodge-podging a fan on to try to cope with the aforementioned high temperatures...

Other Thoughts: Also, most motherboards will automagically make PCI cards primary instead of PCI-e cards. Some BIOSes have a setting for it. Mine does not.

Rating + 4 Good for older PCs

Pros: -a relatively high end card for PCI
-Runs newer games, tho not the best
-great for lower end games
-shipping was fantastic

Cons: -Setup was horrendus, though, partly my fault
-price, for PCI card, it's robbery, but sadly, all there really is if you want the best
-no fan
-

Other Thoughts: Like mentioned, the setup was...strange. When I installed the drivers, it created two displays on my one monitor. One on AV, the other on RGB-PC, both very low res and color. I soon found I had installed the drivers to the wrong place. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THEM TO THE XP FOLDER, and not the default vista.

Rating + 4 Great card if your only choice is PCI

Pros: Gives all my games superb graphics! A great jump in graphics from the FX5500. Better performance for sure in playing TrackMania Nations (can now play smoothly in Medium settings, full res), actually plays Crisis at playable speed (low settings). Great card for PCI. Easy installation, just plugged in my monitor into it at first startup.

Cons: Didn't run Half-Life 2 like I expected, still very slow in combat and big areas. Thought this card would be better. This isn't really a con, but it's just personal opinion.

Other Thoughts: The card took up 2 PCI slots, making me remove my capture card for writing tapes from my camera.

Rating + 5 Here's CUDA technology working for you!

Pros: My P4 computer couldn't play H.264 videos, now with this card and CoreAVC's CUDA support, CPU usage dropped from 100% to 40-50% allowing smooth playback.

Look, all it takes, a 6 years old PC, $60 PCI card, $20 codecs and you can have a monster machine that can play HD media without breaking a sweat, probably for the next 5 years. A miracle.

With fanless card the noise from PC is almost non existent.

Those are redesigned NVIDIA G98 chips, the same ones used for 9 series.

Cons: costs more than equivalent PCE-E cards

Rating + 5 Works well together with Radeon card for PhysX acceleration

Pros: This card was purchased for the purposes of attempting to use an nVidia card for only PhysX hardware acceleration. This card works very well for that purpose, and I see distinct improvement in framerates for the one game that I've got that uses PhysX (Sacred 2: Fallen Angel).

I was able to get both cards to coexist in my computer with Windows 7 and Linux (with some caveats, listed in cons). Use the Windows 7 test drivers in Windows 7. In Linux, the latest versions of the xf86-video-nv driver will work, as well as nVidia's propeitary drivers.

Other intangibles include the fact that they include low-profile brackets, so if you have a low-profile system, you can use one of their low-profile brackets. They supply one for DVI, one for VGA outputs. The TV-Out is the same for both.

Cons: The heatsink is very large, but I rather have a large heatsink than an overheating card. Also, since this is a PCI card, it almost always takes priority on text-mode consoles (BIOS bootup sequence, Linux boot sequence, initial booting of Windows, GRUB, etc.) until you fully boot into Windows 7 or until you start X in Linux. Luckily, I did have a second monitor which I hooked to this card for the purposes of monitoring text console output.

Their documentation is also lacking. However, this was not a problem for me as installation of this card is reasonably straightforward and does not require extra power connectors.

Other Thoughts: If you do use my setup (Radeon HD 4670 + GeForce 8400GS) in Linux, be sure to use the latest git version (as of 3/19/09) of the xf86-video-radeonhd driver; it fixes a limitation that caused video corruption issues. The xf86-video-radeon driver will also work with this setup properly with an appropriately configured xorg.conf file.

Rating + 4 Great PCI Card fro the $

Pros: When PCI is your only option this card does the trick! Specs stated 256mb but actually shows 512mb? !!
Installed in an older eMachine (not mine I would not own one) It improved its gaming capability significantly enough to at least play some older games as the 8mb onboard chrome option simpy had trouble loading any graphics at all. Also upgraded this box with 1gb of memory (was running 256mb winxph arghh) So over all for under $100 this machine was back in the game.

Cons: I have installed many many video cards and this one did give me some trouble trying to get the onboard disabled to make this the master.

Other Thoughts: What else can I say about a cheap video card upgrade...it worked and the client is happy with the $$ invested.

Pros: It works good after I got it installed .

Cons: Bought this card for a Optiplex GX260 Dell card would not work in it at all. Tryed everything but just wouldn't work. Finally took the Geforce 4000 out of a Dell 2400 and Put this card in it and it worked fine slowed the computer down some but works. I then installed the 4000 in the Optiplex and it took off no problem. Now I need to upgrade the memory in the 2400 to handle the new card.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this card for a optiplex Dell!!

Pros: DVI output. 256 MB card for a great price. Keep in mind this is a PCI card not PCI Express.

Cons: I used this on Ubuntu and had a problem with gnome constantly crashing. I suspect it had to do with the nvidia driver, but I was never really sure. Regardless I am now using it with Windows and I have no problems at all.

Other Thoughts: I am using this for my HTPC and works great outputting an 720p signal. It works great for viewing HD videos, however, I would suspect that this wouldn't be sufficient for the latest games.

Pros: Easy install.
Triple monitor setup with PCIe EVGA 8800GTS 512 and was just a plug and play installation into PCI slot.
Eggcellent newegg RMA service due to unwanted "dual slot" edition...see cons

Cons: Is actually a "dual slot edition" (a bad case for me). Heatsink is much larger than shown. Completely blocked adjacent PCI slot on my Biostar TForce 550 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138026). I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned this but it's definitely an issue for me because I use all my PCI slots.

Other Thoughts: I used UltraMon with it and it works well except when I was watching Blu-ray on PowerDVD and when I tried maximizing the video. Instead of maximizing all the way, it only maximized to the maximum screen resolution of the smallest monitor that's powered by the 8400GS (other two are from the 8800GTS) even though the video was on the biggest monitor. Very strange...not sure what the exact issue is but it went away after I disabled the small monitor.

Rating + 4 you get what you pay for when using in an OLD pc

Pros: altho i'm not a hard-core gamer, it does makes a minimal difference in my Old Dino-putersaur Dell Dimension 2350...good enough for this antique pc i guess :)

Cons: installing! Oh My Gosh! what a nightmare! i know this is the first time i've done something like this, but after reading about a dozen variations of how to install on numerous sites and forums i felt confident, but it took me more than whole day to get it up and running...kept getting a black-blank screen! i tried to keep track of all the different attempts and methods, but eventually i did what i thought should work and gave up, left for a few hours, and when i came back, everything worked! i dont even know how or why now...LOL

Other Thoughts: i've read numerous places that the installation cd that comes with it (as well as most things like this) is most likely outdated, so i went to the nVidia site and got the latest.

Pros: Quickly installed, easily configured and ran Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare perfectly. PLUS it took the video ram from the integrated graphics and added to the card's total ram, which ended up equalling 512mb :D

no fan, so quiet, but could easily overheat if case does not have adequate air flow

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This was just what i needed to get that CoD 4 game working on family computer :D

Rating + 5 Makes an old computer run like new

Pros: -Modern NVIDIA chipset
-Plays HD content smoothly
-Plays Source (Half-Life2 based games) and Unreal games flawlessly
-Vista Aero (DX10 capable)
-Google Earth

Cons: -PCI Interface
-Any other games are mostly unplayable (Quake-based games, BF2)
-HD Flash content is choppy or unplayable on fullscreen

Other Thoughts: This company truly has some remarkable products. For even more performance on the PCI interface, you should check out the Sparkle 9400's that Newegg stocks. There is also a 512mb version of the 8400 GS, but I didn't see the point since it was a 64-bit interface. I would recommend this for a HTPC.

Rating + 4 Excellent card for the money.

Pros: Bought this card because I needed a DirectX 10 compatible card for an XNA game development class I'm taking. Not only does it serve this purpose very well, but it also runs much faster than my previous video card. I was even able to use it to play Portal on my 6-year-old Gateway machine. And it was less expensive than inferior cards available at stores I've been to, even after I sprung for overnight shipping.

Cons: The drivers on the disc that came with the card did not work. Fortunately, I was able to find working drivers on NVIDIA's website. I'd recommend trying this instead of the drivers on the disc. Also, I have some of the same complaints that some of the previous reviewers had (no printed manual, heat sink takes up too much space, uses non-standard S-video cable that's too short), but these complaints are quite minor.

Other Thoughts: If you've got an older machine that you'd like to try playing some games on, this is a great card to buy. It probably won't run as well as the latest gaming-quality hardware, but it'll get the job done at a price you can afford.

Pros: Works with PCI
Decent core
Not too big

Cons: I tried hooking a regular s-video cable up to it and its not compatible. I think I must have missed something about s-video cables. It came with a short cable and the only difference between it and my long, incompatible one is that it has no square plastic block inside the connector.

Other Thoughts: I'll be returning this (for reasons other than the cards fault) and wont get to fully use it so this review is based on face value and basic usage.

Rating + 4 Large Heatsink. Nice card

Pros: 8000 series chip in a PCI formfactor. Passive cooling.

Cons: Heatsink is so large that you cannot have more than one of these next to each other. I had planned on having two of these plus a PCIe of the same brand running but the heatsink on each makes the card so thick this isn't possible unless you have more than 2 PCI slots, which I unfortunately do not.

Other Thoughts: Card plus heatsink requires 1 1/4" of width in a slot. Same heatsink for the PCIe version.

Pros: I put this in a Shuttle box with an SIS video chip that does not support widescreen LCD resolution. Very easy to install using nvidia reference drivers. Quiet and powerful for a pci card. Opt for this over AGP since newer systems only have PCIE/PCI slots now. I can use it later too.

Cons: Pretty expensive for a low end card.

Other Thoughts: 9500GT PCI card will be out soon from the same company.

Pros: Can play DVDs on my big screen with an old P4 2.6ht. My C2D with Intel 3100 graphics laptop can't handle DVDs with smooth playback on its little screen, much less the big screen.

Cons: PCI price penalty. Shipping price. No memory cooling of any sort. Packaging. Aparently Sparkle only prints one manual.

Other Thoughts: I didn't see the point of more than 256mb memory when its only got a 64 bit memory interface.

Purchased this card to raplace an AGP card with its second bad fan in an old machine. wanted something I could confirm was functional in my main PCIe computer if it still didn't work.

It meets the specs for Cuda and PhysX. I don't know if you can get much processing done through the PCI slot.
Included version of DX9 wouldn't let my try the PhysX demos. I would have tried in conjuction with my main gaming PC, but I use ATI graphics, not nVidia

Rating + 4 HD @ Low Price

Pros: - HD Content processing at minimal cost
- PCI Bus (Not PCIe or PCI-Express for some of the newcomers) great for older PCs / media center PCs
- Allows DX10 capabilities on solely PCI machines.
- HD Playback flawless when using a playback codec that supports GPU offloading. Even works on a low power Intel Atom machine
- Will work great for older games and console emulation

Cons: - For HD playback, you need to understand DXVA (or VDAPU for Linux). Many good software player support these standards (Windows and Linux), but you have to configure them properly. Playback of HD content WILL NOT WORK ON CPU ALONE.

- 945 Chipset is gimp at best. Laptops in 2005 had this chipset. 2GB RAM limitation is enough, it really is, but the PCIe lanes (guess they chose to leave out an expansion slot for it) is disappointing.

- Odd BIOS. Normal options for an Intel board (limited options that is), but it has an unusual lag through the menus. Just hitting left/right on the arrows takes approx .75 sec to switch pages in the BIOS. This is after a somewhat troublesome (but successful) BIOS update.

Other Thoughts: I can't speak too harsh about this board. My cons were critical. Will this board do what you need it to do with minimal effort? Yes. Will it do more if you have a firm grasp of drivers / software? YES! I have a less than three hundred dollar machine running full 1080p content over a 100" projector - I am happy!
