Rating + 4 Works Great

Pros: x64 Win7 Enterprise, installed and worked flawlessly. Buying another today. Stackable!

Cons: USB windup cable. Eventually, it will tangle...

Other Thoughts: I had Tritton SEE2 Xtreme UV200 to start with. never worked, BSODs and finally the device light stopped coming on.

Pros: Works great - plugged it in installed the software, hooked it up to a second monitor, and has worked faultlessly since. Once it was set up, I forget it's even there.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Rating + 5 Works

Pros: It works. I now have two Acer W223w monitors connected to my Dell Inspiron, one through the built in vga out and one through this sucker. The resolution is sufficient for anything but gaming and watching video. I use mainly in editing documents as I am a student. Video will of course play, but it is choppy. If your are streaming a low quality video on the web, though, there is little noticeable difference between the monitor connected to this and the monitor plugged into the video out. Coupled with a wireless keyboard and moue, I have not needed to purchase a desktop to have a dual-monitor desktop-like setup at my home office.

Cons: None. For Laptop dual monitor setup this is ideal. If you have a desktop, you could probably pay 20 bucks more and get a pretty descent dual dva video card, though.

Other Thoughts: Works with windows 7! I upgraded yesterday to Windows 7 through student IT services at the University of Virginia. $10. $10! Way to go Microsoft! There is apparently a way to make this work with Ubuntu which involves manually edited the xorg.conf file or something like that, but it was beyond me. Maybe the upcoming Karmic will have native support. Props to windows 7, though. Driver automatically updated.

Rating + 5 GREAT PRODUCT

Pros: Small and compact, uses little desk space (2.5 x 2.5 x .75 inches), no external power source needed. Installs in minutes... works without any problems.. what more could you ask for.

Configure it though the software which is provided or though your standard display options... simple and easy.

Cons: USE / GET A DIFFERENT USB CABLE!!! Like others, the one that was shipped to me does not work... but don't let that change your mind about getting this product... a USB cable is cheap and you probably have an extra one laying around somewhere.

Other Thoughts: The unit does get warm, but nothing to worry about. If you want to use this product for watching video constantly or design and development programs.. I would NOT recommend you purchasing it. Video will work, but on occasion it will lag. I've also have used it for Remote Desktop connections, no problems to speak of.

If you need a second, third or even a forth monitor display to leave Outlook running, some type of Data Base program or spreadsheets/word documents then I would purchase this unit.

I added it to my Dual monitor display so I could keep my Outlook up all of the time... (Running a Triple Monitor Display now: 1- 20" Standard and 2- 19" Standard) working like a champ, no problems or errors to speak of; besides the USB cable.

Pros: Excellent device and the price was great. Needed a second montior on a client consulting job. I had the monitor but only one VGA connection. The eVGA UV Plus USB provided another VGA through a usb port. Works great and always comes up regardless of the environment.

Cons: None for the device. I did learn that my port replicator has a maximum load for USB devices but once determined, worked around it.

Rating + 5 Best ever! Great price!

Pros: Adds another screen to a computer which would normally not support two or more screens! Stays cool if you only use it for office work. Got a few of these for some people at work who love to multitask, and they have been working great so far! Can adjust screen resolution, color quality, screen rotation, which way to extend your screen in relation to your main screen, and even if you want to extend your desktop or just mirror it all on your task bar! Great for using projectors at meetings! Even lets you disable the extra screens from your task bar!

Cons: Not meant for gaming or watching movies guys n gals! You could watch a movie on this thing but be warned that it will get hot....USB cord did NOT work with half of these units BUT will work on other stuff like an external card reader or hard drive. No idea whats up with that....Runs off of USB power so FYI if your having trouble with one of these units you may have to get a Y splitter to run it off of two USB ports (only had trouble with one until we got a Y splitter, now its working great!)

Other Thoughts: I got these units because the laptops/desktops we get for work are cheap and many will not support an extra screen. Since I purchased these we now have 0 problems with running 2 or MORE screens per computer! And they are cheaper than buying and installing new video cards. FYI if your having trouble with one of these units you may have to get a Y splitter to run it off of two USB ports for laptops(only had trouble with one until we got a Y splitter)

Rating + 2 No good for widescreens

Pros: Low cost.
Could be used as a coffee-cup warmer?

Cons: Does not work as advertised.
Gets pretty toasty.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to allow me to use a Dell 24" widescreen with my IBM Thinkpad T42. Only got 1280x1024.
EVGA Support Team was...not great...
Me: "Hi - here's all my computer and monitor specs - why can't I get better than 1280x1024?"
EVGA: "If you're using a square monitor that's the best this model will do. If you need better, buy the (more expensive) UV-16."
Me: "Again, here's the monitor I'm using (a 24" widescreen), why does XP not show a higher resolution than 1280x1024?"
EVGA: "Oh! You have 3 more resolutions available to you with that device. The max res is 1440x900. Try installing the monitor driver from Dell."
Me (banging head on desk): "Okay, I've made sure the Dell driver is installed (it was there all along); no change."
EVGA: "Try it without the Dell driver. Then tell us if it still doesn't work as this could be a problem."
Me: RMA to NewEgg within the 30-day window.

Thanks NewEgg! I'm not getting paid by my employer to validate someone else's product...

Rating + 5 USB to DVI Works Great!

Pros: Works great with Vista x64 and Win 7 x64. They even have beta Win7 drivers so it appears as though driver development is active and from my use pretty solid. I purchased this so I could drive an external monitor on a laptop at its native resolution and digitally (DVI). It works excellently for Photoshop, coding, and web surfing, any like task on this display adapter works very well. Adds a DVI port to your laptop or desktop via a USB port!

Cons: The USB cable while looking nice and useful (it is retractable for easy transportation) is 100% useless, I am very disappointed in eVGA with this it seems as though it was never Q/A’ed with the UV12 the only bright side to this is USB cables are cheap and I had an extra laying around.
The rest of the cons cannot be helped due to it connecting via USB. USB theoretically can achieve around 50MB/s PCIe x16 can theoretically achieve 16GB/s, so with a little knowledge and comprehension you can easily determine that USB will be a bottleneck for graphics. I would equate the experience to a very fast terminal server session (faster than on a 100MB LAN) frankly these are not really cons, just be aware that it isn’t going to be like a monitor jacked straight into a graphics adapter. The only other thing to beware of (again due to the nature of USB) is your frame rates drop off under high processor utilization making mouse movements jumpy.

Other Thoughts: If you need a higher resolution then 1440 x 1050 check out the UV16 (next model up) Also in Win 7 x64 the latest GMA 4500 drivers fixed crashing with multiple monitors, but that behavior returned when adding the UV12, this does not happen at all in Vista. The crashing happens less often when using the latest drivers from Intel’s site vs. the drivers obtained from Windows Update.

Pros: im sure it works...

Cons: Doesnt function with my 64 bit XP OS which is a downfall. which is my fault i guess. however most of evga's stuff is xp64 compliant so i was surprised to say the least. Other than that functionality for vista windows 7 and xp32 is accepted, but resolutions beyond 1440 are NOT supported. Which is a major shame.

Pros: None really. Nice to be able to have a 3rd, or more, monitor but the fact you really can't do ANYTHING with the addition monitor is rather disappointing.

Cons: Refresh rate on this is horrible. Anything that moves or has any motion is like watching it through a strobe light. Really choppy. THIS THING GETS HOT!!!!! Even when used for things that aren't moving on the screen this thing will BURN YOU. I can only imagine that the thing would melt itself should you require actually using the monitor hooked up to this. THe display settings are horrible and I don't udnerstand the purpose of creating this if it can't even handle anything beyond 1024x.

Other Thoughts: I am REALLY disappointed that they discontinued, or whatever happened, the +16 version of this because the +12 is not worth it. DO NOT BUY! I'd really recommend finding someone who is still selling the +16 unless you like wasting your time and money.

Rating + 4 EVGA with Mac OSX 10.5.6

Pros: One of the only ways I could find to get a third monitor for my MBP, and it works. For the most part it is plug and play and the system recognizes it like any other screen. Combined with the display port drivers this is a good/maybe only way to get two external monitors on a mac. It can even play normal youtube videos clearly, not on full screen though. I would highly recommend for certain uses (see other thoughts)

Cons: The display port drivers are a beta. Some quarks that I have noticed: There is no 3-d acceleration, and large redraws lag a little, ie if you move a large window across the screen. Sometimes my MBP won't get past the gray screen at startup with this plugged in to my usb hub, simple fix is to just plug it in afterwards, it will configure configure once everything loads up. Also if you try to watch full screen video on it, it will drop frames, and will really eat up your cpu. It uses a virtual driver that runs as like an application. For some reason it will randomly blackout the screen for less than a second then it comes back, only happens when the mouse is on a different screen, so it doesn't really affect anything.

Other Thoughts: Although this device has cons you have to realize this is because of the beta drivers, the hardware in the device is very capable. When they release final drivers, hopefully with snow leopard's open CL I think this will turn this into a truly powerful device. For the time being if you want another monitor for word, internet browsing, any application that isn't graphics intensive this is the device for you.

Cons: Needs a better USB cable . Will not stream video well still works great tho.

Pros: None

Cons: Worked for 5 minutes, now my laptop won't recognize it. Tried it on a different machine, other machine won't recognize it. Tried a different usb cable that I had sitting around, still won't work.

Other Thoughts: It looks cool, too bad it don't do anything. Really irks me, I needed this device for tomorrow.

Rating + 5 Great device

Pros: This is a GREAT little device. it works perfectly out of the box, and while you can't play games on it, it handles normal windows operations just fine.
I also like the orange lights, very calming

Cons: gets a little warm, but so far nothing to worry about

Other Thoughts: I bought this as an experiment to try out my thin client idea, and to my surprise it worked! My laptop recently broke and I like to use my computer on the couch, about 15 ft away from my fairly powerful desktop. I also like high resolution so an external monitor is required. so now i see 3 solutions:
1. a thin client (about 300 bucks).
2. a laptop (200-400 bucks).
3. vmware, a usb hub, some usb AM-AF extension cords, this device, and a keyboard/mouse. (60 bucks, or +30 if you like wireless keyboards like me)
Vm ware allow you to pass USB devices directly to the virtual machine. I use that with flash drives and keyboards/mice all the time, but to my delight it actually works with this display port. So all i had to do was fire up vmware, pass control of keyboard and uv plus to my virtual machine, and voila, a clean "computer" for me to work on anywhere my usb cords can reach!

Rating + 3 Mostly works

Pros: Very simple way to add another screen to your system.

Cons: When the screen times out it will often forget it's settings or occasionally lose the monitor completely. Worst case is the icon disappears from the system tray. Program appears to be running but no way to access it. Unplug the usb cable for a few seconds, plug it back in and the monitor comes back. When it looses it's settings it just defaults to mirror which IMHO is a stupid default.

Rating + 2 Works Great on 32bit

Pros: Worked well on XP Pro 32bit. Ran a extra CRT with no problems. Excellent setup in the software. Plug and play awesomeness.

Added about 15-25% cpu load on a 3.2GHz P4 to play a DVD on the crt.

Cons: DOES NOT WORK WITH 64BIT!

Other Thoughts: Newegg should have a "Confirmed 64bit" logo that it can put on products. Even better a "Does not work on 64bit" for products like this.
Manufacturer Response:Hi,

This product does work with Vista64, can you please use the drivers on our site.

Rating + 5 Works on Mac OS 10.5.6

Pros: Works on Mac OS 10.5.6. Clear screen. Rotated display. Setup was a breeze (you need to download the Mac OS drivers from the displaylink website (google it.)

Cons: There is a very slight gap at the top of my Dell 1908FP screen now (like 2 mm), but that might be because it's connected with the vga adapter. Decreasing the refresh rate from 75 Hz to 60 Hz helped a lot with that (it was like 1 cm).

There is a very slight lag in response times. This is to be expected with a USB display adapter. You should avoid ANY USB display adapter for gaming or high frame rate video, but for office work it's great.

Other Thoughts: I would love another 2 or 3 of these and another 2 or 3 displays... it would make monitoring everything as a sys admin that much easier.

Pros: Small
works like a champ
install without opening the PC
Reliable manufacturer
driver does not interfere with other display card and since it was destined for my SFF case, there was no more slots.
it is portable

Cons: the day I bought it Newegg was not offering the rebate, so I bought it from another supplier. But the next day Newegg was offering a similar rebate. Had I waited a day I would have had it faster because of
Neweggs speedy shipping.

Other Thoughts: This thing removed my concern about the declining availability of PCI video cards

Rating + 4 Not bad, not perfect but not bad

Pros: The device makes it incredibly simple to add an additional monitor to your PC. I'm using it in Vistax64 and it works very well. The setup was no more than 5 minutes.

Cons: The one thing I particularly don't like is when returning to the computer after the PC has been locked or after the monitor has been shutdown overnight, the screen with the EVGA blinks on and off about 8 -10 times over about 30 seconds before settling in so I can actually use the screen.

Other Thoughts: The UV-12 supports up to 1440 x 900, a 22" display is 1680x1050 so if you want your native resolution on a 22" you'll need to get the UV-16. Also, the colors on the UV-12 display were "off" so it took a little tweaking to get the colors to match up with my other two displays. For the money, it's definitely worthwhile.

Rating + 5 Works just the way I wanted it to!

Pros: I got this for a 3rd monitor on my Vista computer. Works with no problems and Aero is still working like a champ! I mainly use it when I use Remote Desktop and it runs pretty smooth. I also have the Vista sidebar running on it all the time. I've watched the occasional video on it too just to see how well it works and it will play with no lag as long as you aren't moving the mouse a lot over the video. Even then it still runs smoothly.

Cons: The drivers that came on the disk did not work in Vista. After I downloaded them from their website I had no problems.

Other Thoughts: Newegg doesn't say if it is 64-bit compatible. But I read the release notes from the driver and it is Vista 64-bit compatible. It is also compatible with Windows 7 Beta. I haven't tried it, but the drivers say it can do it.

Rating + 5 Great little USB to DIV or VGA device

Pros: - comes with a retractable usb cord
- small size
- comes with DVI to VGA adapter
- works without issues on Win XP
- Allows me to use my laptop as screen 3, the DVI output from the docking station as screen 1 and this device as screen 2

Cons: Windows can see it and display to it just fine but things get a little weird when you try to change the order of the screens or the "screen number".

It's a little dumb but I wanted to make a single wall paper stretch to all screens and this simply doesn't seem possible since I can't change this screen as the primary monitor in my set up. But wall paper aside everything works flawlessly so its really hard to complain about that.

Other Thoughts: The picture is a little on the grainy side so I wouldn't use this device for your primary monitor but as a secondary monitor (or in my case a 3rd monitor) it works perfectly.

There is also some noticeable cpu crunching going on if you use a lot of moving graphics / video etc. as others have mentioned.
However, if you use it for say, displaying outlook all day its great.

Pros: Works Great! Being used as a secondary monitor for my Dell GX270 at work. Since I dont want to put the money into my work PC with a new graphics card, this was a perfect solution! I can take this home or to another PC whenever I want.

Cons: Neither Windows XP or Vista found the drivers automatically, but CD install was a breeze! This should not even really be a con! Would recomend to even the least PC savvy user.

Other Thoughts: Have not tried anything intense such as gaming, but office tasks have not had any lag or distortion. Even though the monitor I am using is VGA the picture still looks beautiful!

Rating + 4 Works Well

Pros: Easy to setup...updated software was available immediately. Took less than 5 minutes to set up and get working

Cons: Only negative Ive seen is that I wouldn't recommend it for less than beefy machines. It is basically software emulation of the video card. Does slow down my pc a little with hi res backgrounds on but its a minor negative for me.

Other Thoughts: If you get this....and your mouse is "freezing" try turning off your hi res background and setting your other monitor to a slightly lower color quality.
Doing so makes the freezing go away on my pc...
Good product...

Rating + 5 Well I'll be...

Pros: Works as advertised. Easy to install and use, especially by the novices in my office.

Cons: Received with a bad USB cable, had to supply my own, check this first if the device does not work properly for you out of the box.

Other Thoughts: As the product literature states, works on USB 1.1 but the experience is just like not having your display drivers installed, and using the windows default drivers. The best experience possible is derived from using this in combination of USB 2.0. Wont be a problem for those with new machines, but in my office we still have some legacy machines with usb 1.1, which is why I mention this. Again, it works, but there is significant redraw when windows are moved around.

I did NOT try any video or 3D with this device, keep in mind its intended use is NOT for graphically intensive applications.

Lastly, the users I have used this device with have local admin rights to their machines, I did not test this in a more locked down environment. Included software might not function properly on a machine where the user does not have local admin rights.
