PCI-X Clarification
Pros: .
Cons: .
Other Thoughts: Just to be clear, this is a 32-bit PCI card NOT PCI-X.
Despite the previous comment, their is no such thing as a 32-bit PCI-x card.
Yes, 32-bit PCI cards are certainly compatible with a PCI-X slot. However that does not effect it's bus width or bandwith.
The PCI-X standard is 64-bits which you obviously can't achieve using a 32-bit card.
On a side note- throwing a 32-bit card into a PCI-X slot will slow down the bus speed of your PCI-X slot It will also slow down all other slots sharing that bus.
So in most cases you'll slow down the bus speed of all your PCI-X slots to that of a standard PCI slot.

Terrible
Pros: Cheap, but only slightly cheaper than other brands.
Cons: Everything. I had two of these fail on me simultaneously (probably due to a short when installing new RAM). I attempted to get some kind of tech support or RMAs, but there was nothing. SYBA refuses to help you when you call. I ended up throwing them both out and buying a 4-port expansion card from a different brand. I promise to never buy these again... Also, even when they did work, the e-sata ports are useless on my case. The e-sata slots are so close to the top of the card, that when you try to plug in an e-sata cable into them, the metal connectors on the cable touch the case and short out. I'm lucky I didn't fry the external hard drive.
Other Thoughts: Spend a few bucks more and get a quality card.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Customer, we help all our customers through phone, fax and email. self proclaimed expert!
Pros: It does work at sataII because I bought this card after buying a 1.5 which did not work with my 3.0 hard drive. As I look on the box it said nothing about PCI X
Cons: People who think they know stuff about computers missleading those few of us who almost know nothing about comps. Take your computer to geek squad like i did. they will get that card to work!
Other Thoughts: Maybe add a review that is accurate.

great card
Pros: It works. I have a Compaq Presario 6420. It now has a Sata 3.0 hard drive.
Cons: True the E Sata ports in the rear almost dont match in the rear panel with the stock tower. We bought the cooler master sniper and now there is ample room for the rear ports.
Other Thoughts: This computer really isn't the same with this case, HIS agp graphics card and this sata II controller card. Its hard to see that the motherboard is 8 years old. I would buy another one if i needed it! I had the guy at radio shack install it that's probably why I say this card is so great.

misleading
Pros: It works at SATA I speed.
Cons: False advertising. It's not PCI-X, but 32-bit PCI at 33MHz, which means it is physically incapable of doing SATA II at 3.0 Gb/s.
Other Thoughts: I bought this card and an external eSATA disk for my old PC. I thought this would give me 3.0 GB/s. But when I checked the controller properties (thru control panel or device manager) it says "Host Link Speed: Generation 1 (1.5 Gb/s)" and "Device Link Speed: Generation 1 (1.5 Gb/s)". So I took the disk enclosure apart, thinking maybe it was jumpered to run at 1.5 Gb/s. But it was a real 3.0 Gb/s disk. After doing more research, I realized that a 32-bit PCI card running at 33MHz can only do 133MB/s. (On the box it even says, "Support 32-bit at 33MHz", and you can tell just by looking at the card that it's only 32-bit PCI.) So this is very strange. It's advertised as PCI-X and SATA II, but it's not PCI-X, and it doesn't talk to the disk using SATA II. It's 32-bit PCI and SATA I! I looked up the chipset, and apparently it can do SATA II, but what's the point if you put it in a 32-bit PCI form factor that's physically incapable of reaching SATA II speed?
Manufacturer Response:Dear Customer, We apologize for any inconvenience. This is a PCI card running on 33MHz interface. Please check your hard drive enclosure if the eSATA port support 3.0Gbps. All of our products come with at least 3 years warranty. Please don't hesitate to contact us at support-us@syba.com if you have any problem or question. Regards, Syba Customer Service

would not work on poweredge 1600sc
Pros: cheap. fast shipping.
Cons: didn't work on dell poweredge 1600sc, even though some of the slots are supposed to run at 32bit/33mhz. it did work on my asus p5l-vm 1394 mobo, but I have no use for it there.
Other Thoughts: these pretzels....... are making me thirsty!!
Manufacturer Response:Dear Customer, Thank you for purchasing our products. On some of the server motherboards, you need to change the PCI clock rate to 33MHz in BIOS or set the jumper to specific clock rate. All of our products come with at least 3 years warranty. CAUTION: MAY NOT WORK
Pros: Works with Windows Server 2003, as advertised
Cons: Does not work with some motherboards. Another review mentioned that it doesn't work with PCI3.3V slots, and I found this out the hard way with an Asus CUV4-x...computer shuts down repeatedly...aarrgh.
Manufacturer Response:Dear Customer, Thank you for purchasing our products. This is PCI card which only works with PCI 5V slot. We try to provide the most reliable products to our customer and all our products come with at least 3 years warranty. Needs deep eSata cables.
Pros: It works and is a good price for its functions.
Cons: To those that have not been able to get the 2 eSata ports to work, it may be the eSata cable -- they need to have a deep connector. After finding out the reason, I did notice that there is quite a variation on the depth of the prong on eSata cables.

Good, I like it
Pros: (1) You gain SATA2 speeds for a relatively low price (2) No need to replace a motherboard (3) Easy to install (card itself)
Cons: (1) It is not PCI-X, it is simply a PCI (like on a picture) (2) Requires some additional work and knowledge of hardware when changing a bootable IDE HDD to a SATA HDD
Other Thoughts: I'm using it with the "Western Digital Caviar GP WD7500AACS 750GB 5400 to 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive" that I also bought at NewEgg. The drive is set up to be bootable. I have one partition with Windows XP SP2 on it. So far it has been working flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: Pretty cheap for what you get.

Pros: Works!
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Added sata to older PowerEdge 600sc with SBS2003 - works great, performance good with mirrored drives. external ports will make expanding easy if needed.

Great SATA II Card for PCI
Pros: Silicon Image Sil3124 high End / performance chipset, total of 4 SATA II ports which included 2 eSATA ports. This is the cheapest SATA II cards for a PCI slot. Easy to install, Windows will pick up the driver right away.
Cons: Did not come with any SATA cable, the user manual is too simple.
Other Thoughts: 1.This is a PCI card not PCI-X card.
2.If you would like to run this card on "non-Raid" mode, just download the "base" bios from Siliconimage web site & flash it, it will take only 3 seconds to do so. Also, you can find the latest driver under "Windows Update".

Pros: SATA2 for archaic computers with PCI slots Beter performance for SATA2 than system's existing IDE drives
Cons: Is not PCI-x.
Other Thoughts: Is actually a RAID controller. These companies don't even know what they are selling?

works so far, driver workaround
Pros: works with win2k pro for old fileserver
Cons: none yet
Other Thoughts: Driver CAN be installed from CD or DESKTOP. Extract the file from http://www.siliconimage.com/docs/3124_x86_15110_logo.zip then change the si3124r5.inf file. look for both the %12%\ entries and delete the %12%\ from each line so it should reads like "yaya=yada.sys" it may want you to browse or something but it installs without making a floppy. Im sure it could be streamlined so you didnt have to browse for the one sys file, but it installed fine for me so I'm happy. This was for win2k pro and the others wins should be similar. Hooked up 2x 750Gb WD's to this card.

Its not ALL bad
Pros: This card works great once you get it to work. The drivers are pretty straight forward, and i LOVE the fact that you can just plug in drives without having to restart windows, internal or external you can plug them in any time and they will just show up. Transfer speeds are great and i never have any problems from it. I think i'm going to order another one for my media center pc - these cards are awesome. I gave it 4 stars for 1 reason...
Cons: the only problem that i was having is i couldnt get any external SATA drives to connect to it - and thats because the ports on this card are really low, and they will usually be partially blocked by the metal deviders on the computer case... you will either need to notch them, or the easier way, remove one completely.

Flawed implementation of 3124 chipset
Pros: Silicon Image 3124 chipset, inexpensive
Cons: ---> WILL NOT WORK AT 3.3V <---- Form factor a poor fit, External sata connectors extremely close to board edge and may be blocked by case. May not even fix PCI-x slots without some effort.
Thus, you attach a drive and get a BSOD in a 3.3v PCI-x slot or newer PCI standard slots.
Other Thoughts: This card should work in PCI slots with PCI 2.2 or prior standards or the, rather uncommon, 5V PCI-x slots. Older PCI standard supports either 5V or 3.3V while newer only supports 3.3V.
Contrary to some comments it *is* valid to have a 32 bit PCI-x half size card but that won't help much if the voltage is wrong. While the card has Universal PCI keys, which should indicate either 3.3V or 5V support, it will not work at 3.3V.

Works perfect with Vista
Pros: This card works perfect with Windows Vista Ultimate. I replaced my Primary IDE drive with a SATA II drive connected to this controller. To do so I installed just this controller and no drives, booted vista, let it install the driver from the CD that comes with the card, shutdown the PC and connected the SATA II drive, used acronis trueimage home 10.0 (from within windows) to clone the IDE to the SATA drive. Next, you need to load the drivers for this card from a diskette. The drivers are on siloconimage.com under SiI3124, drivers, vista, SiI "3124 32-bit Windows SATARAID5 Driver", download and extract to a diskette. and then shutdown and remove the IDE drive. Next, boot with your Vista CD and click Repair, it won't be able to find your vista installation until you load the drivers from the diskette. Once done Vista will say it found an issue with your booting and automatically fix it. Restart and you're good to go.
Cons: None at all. Though switching from IDE to SATA II only improved the disk performance in Vista from a 5.2 to a 5.5.

NOT PCI-X - Wrong Description
Pros: A reasonable price for a PCI SATA2 controller.
Cons: NOT PCI-X
The NewEgg page says PCI-X. The Box says PCI-X.
But there is a sticker applied in the corner of the box which says "32bit PCI".
The card does not have the wide PCI-X connector, it is standard PCI.

Nice upgrade to Raid1 if you have the know how
Pros: Option exists for either a SATALink or SATARAID controller. Feature rich for the price. Great upgrade for my Nforce2 motherboard. RAID1 is running nicely so far.
Cons: Card recieved with with the SataLink bios. The RAID part is "optional" as per the box. RAID features are achieved by flashing the bios with the SATARAID5 bios available from the Silicon Image webpage. The flash utility is conveniently located on the device management properties page for the controller. I think the instructions (a small sheet of paper labed USER MANUAL) were lacking some of this info - they mention raid but no drivers for raid are included on the cd. The Java SATARAID5 management software caused problems with the Windows Update Client - not worth installing anyway for a simple mirror.
Other Thoughts: With the SATARAID5 bios 6.4.09 I received a warning on every boot, stating an improper shutdown occurred and that a rebuild would occur. No rebuild would occur and the system would boot normally. Flashed with an earlier bios 6.3.18 and the warning went away.
Haven't been running the card too long but the System is running great and what peace of mind Raid1 offers !

Not good at all
Pros: 4-channel SATA300 (2-internal-SATA and 2-eSATA ports). Supposedly PCI-X compatible.
Cons: Did not detect any of my Western Digital drives when used in any PCI-X slot on my ASUS PU-DL board. When used in regular PCI slot, it detects the internal hard drives and works ok. But the eSATA ports never detect my Thermaltake eSATA/USB2 enclosure.
Other Thoughts: Updated BIOS to latest 6.4.09 and even RMA'ed for another card but it still has the same problems. Ended up going with a *real* hardware RAID SATA300 card for the internal drives and a cheap SiliconImage-3512 SATA150 PCI card for a working eSATA port.

Uhm
Pros: Simple
Cons: Couldn't get it to work, would BSOD my windows 2003 server when a drive was attached. Tried to get their support, which equalled 1 response email after a week of phone calls and emails. So I RMA'd and bought a higher quality card.
Other Thoughts: I know some people have had a good time with this, and power to them, just couldn't even get this to work with an HD.

Works great
Pros: This was easy to setup and was running in minutes. I have 2 sata hd's hooked up and 1 ide. All drives show up and run at similar speeds to on board solutions. I would recommend this to those who just want to plug and play.
Cons: I wish it had 4 sata ports as I already have it filled up but I may just buy another card.

Good Card~!
Pros: This makes your computer *_much_*faster*!@Setup is easy (yes, a new format is required as the mbr is different-and a new partition must be made by the controller *read the 'readme' it helps save time & frustration)-*the interface is easy to catch at startup time (I have tried others that were difficult at best). ***
Cons: I Wish Windows would support loading for the driver from cd...Must_have_floppy_...good part of this is only needed for setup (hopfully that is only once every few years)
Other Thoughts: I have had real stable raid '0' setups with the Silicon Image products & S*****e drives, this one is also supporting exterior connection for sata, though I would most likely use for quick backup, or something like that.

Good card for the money
Pros: Granted I am not using the card for any level raid. Windows picked the card up installed. Found and installed the hard drive and was up and running in minutes.
Cons: havent found any yet
Other Thoughts: Syba web site is worthless. You are better off looking for support or drivers on sesamestreet.com

not very good
Pros: not too many.
Cons: lousy unix (freebsd, linux) support.
even on windows xp, it wouldn't see my sata drive. it was already a bootable drive but it insisted that I reformat it, ITS WAY. no, I won't. I returned the card.

not supported in freebsd 6.1
Pros: seems like a nice card, but can't really tell..
Cons: isn't usable in freebsd. linux, maybe, but not freebsd.
Other Thoughts: silicon image usually has good open source support. really surprised me that the ATA device wasn't seen by the latest freebsd ;(
