Dead On Arrival
Pros: None. The unit was DOA.
Cons: The unit was DOA. No power to the drive after connecting a known good hard drive. Reconnecting the same hard drive to a PC proves the drive works and powers up. Also, installing into the metal bracket is extremely tight.

Good Buy
Pros: I purchased a total of 3 of these. not all at one time. all from Newegg. All worked out great. No problems. Had up and running in less then an hour. If you have any hard drives laying around this is a good way to put them to use. I use them to back up my files on my computers. Can't beat them for the price.
Cons: None

Pros: Solidly built, durable. Case dissipates heat from the drive well.
Cons: Bright blue light. It only has to be an indicator, not a landing strip, okay?
Other Thoughts: I bought the SATA version of this as well, paired up with two spare drives I have, and use them as rotating offline backups.

Works great!
Pros: - Love how they're made to stack on top of each other if you set them on their sides. - Really easy to take apart and reassemble. Came without the LED cable hooked up, which made it even easier. - Beautiful, slick black and silver design matches the rest of my system perfectly. Even the LEDs match :)
Cons: - The power plugs are huge! - Was worried while I was reassembling, after hooking up the drives, that I was going to break the entire back plate off of the tray because the plate's connection to the tray is flimsy and it's a tight fit with the drive in place, so you have to push pretty hard.
Other Thoughts: Very happy with my purchase.

nicer then i thought
Pros: this thing is great! i would have never thought i would like it as much, real easy to assemble it took me like five min tops and i had up up and running very nice thinking about getting a couple more
Cons: the only thing i cam across that i didn't care for is that there is two metal tabs in the front next to the connector, i had to bend them to get the hard drive to sit right but, nothing really to write home about.
Other Thoughts: very nice case

Very Impressed - Apple Like Quality!
Pros: Apple Like Quality of materials and workmanship. If your accustomed to using the best, working with the best, and getting the best... Well your probably a Mac user. You'll feel right at home with this unit. Good fit, Good finish. No gaps. Screws go into THREADED inserts! Not your typical Chinese junk, it's good... I actually had to look and see where it was made (china). Could easily state Germany or USA and pass.
Cons: Transfer speed. It's good don't get me wrong but it's IDE and thus slow. It is USB 2.0 and you won't have an issue with it unless your expecting 700MB+/Min... You won't get it, even on an AMD based system (AMD's have twice the USB transfer rates of Intel - It's a design feature of the CPU).
Mini-CD does not work in Slot Load drives. You don't need anything off it anyways.
Other Thoughts: Seriously it's made in China... I can't believe it. If they make Cars as well as this we are in deep rubber dog sh*t.

Works
Pros: Easy to change drives (atleast for myself) stays cool enough with out any noisy fans. LED on the front isn't overly bright. I personally liked that it had an adapter attached to a standard 110 plug, instead of those ugly plug adapters that eat 2 spaces or more on the power strip. The tray rails hold the drive snugly and securly, keeping viberation down.
Cons: Its USB, so its not the fastest thing in the world, it only has one LED which shares the power/HDD activity functions. For me this really isn't a con, but it has to be switched on manually, and vice versa. The screws holding the back on are kind of tight at first, but using the correct screwdriver they went in with out a hitch. Also the LED connector has to be manually plugged in to function, this both is a con, and a pro, cause if you dont care about the LED then you don't have to use it, but when you are swapping a drive, be mindful of it being there, or you will bend the connector. It's drive tray slides along rails to hold it steady, an easy thing to miss if you are in a hurry to swap drives.
Other Thoughts: I have owned this external enclosure for roughly 3 years, its never giving me a problem, its blue LED is still operating perfectly, it does get warm, but its never been unsafely hot. It has had multiple HDD swaps, and occasionaly I have used it as a simple IDE to USB drive holder, when its wasnt practical to actually mount the drive in the casing

External Drive
Pros: Easily detected by Windows XP Pro SP3. Works as advertised (no surprises). Inexpensive backup solution. Free extra USB cable it came with was a bonus.
Cons: No cons.
Other Thoughts: Everyone should have a backup solution of some type. External USB drives are a good way to go.

poor box
Pros: The box works as advertised after I repaired it. New, just out of the box.
Cons: I had to re-solder the power wires on the circuit board to make it work. The assembler person should be fired. QC? I did not see any evidence of it.

Can get hot
Pros: Easy install/setup. Slick design & has on/off switch.
Cons: Could be the WD 320 Gig drive, but case gets very hot. Make sure there's plenty of air space around it.
Other Thoughts: Wish it had a fan. The power switch is at the bottom rear which makes it hard to reach in my setup.

Great Product!
Pros: This product was so easy to use right out of the box. The quality of the case is outstanding, the aluminum feels very sturdy and it looks great in black. The instructions were very clear, but even without them the hook up is straightforward. The price for this quality product is exceptional.
Cons: The front face felt a little fragile when installing the hard drive, but I didn't feel it would break.
Other Thoughts: The price for this great product is wonderful. I needed to get information off of an old computer that was damaged by lightning. It wasn't worth getting the computer fixed. Another store wanted $99.00 to transfer the data to 2 dvd's. So, for about $40.00, I still got the information AND get to use the hard drive externally now. I would definitely recommend this great product to save money, retask old hardware and get more for the money you do spend.

Works with Vista
Pros: It works with 64-bit Vista Home Premium despite not being advertised to? My gamble paid off. Plugs and Plays like a charm.
The enclosure comes with a removable stand so you can have it standing vertical like in the pictures, or laying on its side if you don't care for that.
Cons: Nothing that bothered me, unless you plan to shuffle a lot of hard drives through it. You just have to get over the idea of using brute force with your hard drives if that bothers you. See Other thoughts.
Other Thoughts: I only used this thing for transferring data from old IDE drives to my existing SATA setup. This review is based on the few hours of use from that experience.
The iternal HD cage is a really really tight fit for the hard drive. Trying to gently insert a HD into the cage wouldn't work. To be on the safe side I then proceeded to operate the device outside the enclosure. After completing the data transfer from 4 old hard drives in this fashion, I decided it was safe to try my luck and finally insert a HD into the enclosure like it was meant to. Using some brute force to shove the drive into the cage did the trick.
Other than that, setting up the enclosure is not a completely tool-less operation and requires the use of 2 screws. Be prepared.

Pros: Sleek looking, works perfectly, good price
Cons: Heats up a lot, but I suppose that's to be expected.
Didn't go together as smoothly as I would have liked.
Other Thoughts: Would have liked eSATA, but its not a deal breaker.
Works fine with my Western Digital 500GB.

Neat
Pros: It looks good, all the writing and decals are actually shiny aluminum from underneath and not painted on. It screws in very snug and has slots for the tray to hold position so it seems secure. Works without installing any software and shows drives of individual partitions like you'd expect.
Cons: If you shake it, gently, you can feel it rattle inside. Although it feels rock solid you can tell it isn't. Will probably ruin the harddrive if it tips over while writing files or something... Power outlet adapter thing is really big, but designed to go horizontally so it doesn't affect the other outlets.
Other Thoughts: I think this was a good choice, it's attractive and simple. Only button is an on/off switch in the back.

Pros: -Great looking case -Aluminum construction -Nearly silent operation -Little to no vibration -Installation is about as easy as possible, only one wire (for the LED) and the hard drive slips right in -USB and eSATA port
Cons: -Smudges easily -Plastic stand feels cheap in comparison to the rest of the product -Received the wrong instruction manual (though they have one online that worked)
Other Thoughts: Overall this product works great with a 1TB Western Digital hard drive I recently purchased. My only real complaint is that they gave me the wrong user manual which made the otherwise easy installation confusing.

Great Product
Pros: Great Construction, NO FAN (not needed because the aluminum case does a great job with the heat). The USB interface is great (my old cases used to drop the connection after a couple of hours of use). Nice looking gloss black finish.

Solid product
Pros: Works great. Installation is easy. Install drive, give it power and connect the USB cable. XP and Vista pick it up right away (no installation disc needed) Its quiet and cool. Honest price. This is my second one in about two years. I have them stacked on each other and they work fine. I don't even know they are there.

looks good, but too hot
Pros: nice aesthetics, numerous connections.
Cons: Aluminum case does not dissipate heat well (although that's a "feature") -- lost a 750Gb hard drive after 2 months of use. it may be a circuit board issue, since other drives I've connected to it also ran hotter than normal.
Other Thoughts: let the drive run for a few hours before inserting it into the case and copying data to it, just to check for overheating. If it gets hot, RMA the case immediately and dont risk losing that data!

Overall, it's decent
Pros: This thing looks beautiful! I wish my car looked this nice. Works great. I haven't had any problems with it.
Cons: As many other reviews mention, the power cord is too short and a little bulky. With my power strip, I couldn't plug the power adapter next to a three prong plug.
Other Thoughts: Out of the three external hard drive enclousures I have, this is my least favorite. It looks the best but the short cable puts it at the bottom of my list.

excellent, as always
Pros: Great case, aluminum looks awesome and also responds extremely well to external cooling, good transfer speeds and it's stackable!
Cons: Fingerprints everywhere....
Other Thoughts: What can I say, I've gotten four of these already. 2x80mm fans on the side of the stack cooling them, works great.

Solid
Pros: Decent Design, visually appealing. There's an on/off switch. A lot went into making this product look like a high end unit. Working with the enclosure was good. The only problems I encountered were due to the fact that I didn't pay enough attention to the guides that make sure the shell, and the internals fit properly when you slide it into the shell. Connectors were clearly visible, clean layout, not very difficult to figure out. Price was good, not the cheapest, but not the most expensive. Always liked Vantec products. Newegg handled the order quickly as I expected them to, and UPS got it to me in 3 days as I expected from them.
Cons: Fingerprint magnet. I thought that the majority of the shell was made out of aluminum, however, it is made of plastic. This could be due to me not reading the product description well enough, but I was expecting aluminum. The plastic that they used looks very nice, and appears to be a high quality (read:expensive looking, and strong) plastic, however, it's also thin, and that makes it feel a little cheap in my opinion.
Other Thoughts: Once there's a hard drive inside the enclosure, it stiffens the entire enclosure immensely. Dropping it should not be too big of an issue as far as the enclosure goes. Obviously, don't drop it, there's a hard drive inside. I had trouble getting the drive in the first time, but again, that was due to the fact that I didn't pay attention to the guides that were in the shell. Once I aligned the drive and controller assembly with the guides that are on the shell, it went in easily, and the screws hold everything in place nicely. It's a good product, I'd buy it again. I think I'd want the red one though. The red one looks nice.

Pros: Simple install, nice overall design, effectively runs my new video card.

Not Bad
Pros: Plenty of features. Runs fine. It's been a while since I bought a motherboard so I was pleasantly surprised at all of the things it came with. Heck, it even smelled good when I pulled it out of the package. I've heard complaints about how the manual was hard to understand. I didn't have any trouble. Just read carefully and you should be fine.
Cons: 1 IDE slot. Would trade out the FDD slot for another IDE slot. Doesn't support Core 2 Duo so there is limited upgradeability. Two PCI-E 1X slots are a little much as I will never use them.
Other Thoughts: Overall there really isn't anything to complain about. I knew the cons when I bought it so there were no surprises. Fair price for a fair motherboard. Would buy again.

good looking, moderate ease of use
Pros: nice design. does what it is intended to do.

Good, solid enclosure
Pros: Solid construction, aluminum body stays nice and cool, and it transfers heat well. Used this for a very old IDE hard drive that was in a crashed PC to save the files.
Cons: The screw positions on the back panel to attach the unit were slightly off from each other so I had to pull on the unit a bit to make sure the screws went in. Otherwise it's been fine.
Other Thoughts: I forgot that shiny black picks up fingerprints really really easily, but that's just aesthetics.

VANTEC Nexstar 3 NST.
Pros: I used the enclosure for the first time with my 250GB sound system master drive. Got it all together and it worked beautiful. I must have loaded over 50GB of new data onto it and it was not hot. Worked Excellent. I look forward to taking it on the road and running it from a lap top. All machines with XP recognized it and no drivers had to be installed. Hope it works on Vista the same.
Cons: It was tough getting the ribbon onto the drive and getting it down into position with out pinching or cutting it. The ribbon to the boards pins is off square to the HD's location and required a slight angle/side bend of the ribbon. I found out it was easier taking the ribbon off from the units board pins and leaving it free on the HD until I mounted the HD with the four screws, then putting the ribbon back onto the units board connection. The power supply wire connection was much easier. It's a good thing that I don't plan to move a lot of differnet HD drives in and out of the unit often, because it could become a pain, but you know practice makes perfect / easier.

Excellent but not perfect
Pros: Excellent value, works fine with 160 GB Western Digital drive I had laying around. Assembly wasn't too difficult. Case is very sexy and the blue LED lights up the Vantec logo on the front.
Cons: Metal tray that fits around the drive was a very tight fit for the drive I used. Maybe the WD drives are a tad on the wide side so it took a little more effort than I expected but it did fit. I think several people have mentioned this. But don't be scared off by this.
Other Thoughts: Great value for the money. Buy one you won't be dissappointed. One thing I didn't test was whether the drive would spin down or not if drive wasn't being accessed.

No more than $25
Pros: Solid case, sleak look, easy to assemble; it doesn't seeem to dissipate that much heat, but it doesn't get terribly hot either. Then again, I only use it sporadicaly as a back-up unit.
Cons: The power cord is too short and most likely requires an extention. The power adapter is a little too bulky. The bus cable was quite stiff to and needed to be pushed in by force in order to have it fit properly and close the case. The threaded holes were not aligned that well, hence the screws needed to be forced in as well (not much quality control there!). The power connector seems a little loose to me, so let's see how long it lasts.
Other Thoughts: what's up with the gray cable? Overall, I think this item is not worth more than $25. I'd suggest you buy it when it's on sale.

Pros: I've had the Nexstar 3 enclosure for over a year and I've never had a single problem with it. The HDD caddy inside is sturdy if you line up the rails right. I have used it with 8 drives over the past year and all of them have been recognized right off the bat. Excellent product!
Cons: The internal wiring is a little goofy. I just about ripped the LED power cord of the PCB board. Wouldn't have been a terrible loss as I run my enclosure without the LED connected anyway now.
Other Thoughts: I currently have an 80Gb Seagate Barracuda installed inside the enclosure and I have had it on and running for about the last 2.5 months. The enclosure does get a little warm during heavy data transferring, but it does cool down quickly in times of limited use. I've never been worried about excessive drive temperature while using my Seagate HDD.

Pros: Works as advertised
Cons: The blue LED is garishly bright, it will light up a dark room. This is too bad, because the unit looks great otherwise. However, because this LED is so blindingly bright I'm going to hide the unit under my desk.
The fit is a bit tight, but if you aren't planning to swap drives (I am not) it's just fine once it's properly installed. Getting the screws in on the case was a bit of a challenge too.

Pros: Easy to put together, very shiny and works well.
Cons: The power cable is too short. I wouldn't mind 7 foot long power cable for this thing.
Other Thoughts: While reading other reviews I was a bit hesitant to purchase this enclosure because of the mentioned heat issue. However after buying the enclosure and installing my drive, I found out that the heat issue was minimal. The enclosure does get a bit warmer, but overall it stays cool. After running for 5-8 hours, the enclosure stays cooler than the adapter from my laptop. It only heats up 1 or 2 degrees above room temperature.

Great, Just what I wanted
Pros: Nice finish, quiet, runs cool, performance is pretty good, just what I wanted.
Cons: The tray that holds the drive is a little awkward, the cords could be a little longer on the power adapter, and the LED is bright blue on the front which could get annoying. Overall minor annoyances, a quality product.
Other Thoughts: Put my old drive in here when I upgraded my new one, the PC was an all-in-one so there was no space for the older one, needed to get my data off there and still be accessible and this did the trick A+

Good Quality
Pros: The very first thing that I noticed about this item was the weight. It seems heavy compared to other drive enclosures. It's not a cheap imatation of a hard drive case but the real deal. Overall quality is very good. It was easy to assemble, took only 5 minutes or so. Works very well, is quiet, little vibration, and does not create a lot of heat. It is warm to the touch but is not hot. That all depends on what type of drive that is in it. I Used a WD 320 Gb. drive.
Cons: The USB cable is grey, it should have been black to match the case. Case collects (lots of )fingerprints. Power cord and USB cable could be a little longer. Weight might be an issue if you have to pack this thing around all day in your backpack or briefcase. None of this is bad enough to remove a star from the overall rating.
Other Thoughts: Good looking case, good quality, easy to assemble, works well, price is right. I would recommend this enclosure to anyone. How come the Blue one and the Red one got a better overall rating? Could paint make that much of a difference?

Great Enclosure
Pros: Well made, solid construction. Small footprint.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Many reviews attribute to this enclosure things like transfer rate, excessive heat and other characteristics that are not related to the enclosure itself. I used a 80GB Seagate drive (known for cool operation) and the enclosure is barely warm to the touch. Transfer rates could have to do with the PC's USB port and type, the HD's data transfer speed, HD RPM rating and many other issues. This product works like a champ for me.

Working Great
Pros: - Works out of the box - Relatively simple to use
Cons: - Cables get a bit cramped internally - LED cable for front line in awkward position - Screws for the back plate tough to get in
Other Thoughts: Pretty solid product from Vantec, and I'm satisfied overall. My only gripes are listed above in the cons section, but otherwise I'd recommend this product.

good upgrade
Pros: pretty nice internal setup, the tray is a nice upgrade from the clumsy predecessor that i had. installed and put together in like 2 minutes.
Cons: it's still IDE, but that's the hard drive i had leftover, so what are you gonna do... the external screws didnt line up so they stick out almost halfway, and the base doesn't have any rubber parts or anything to keep the enclosure stuck to it.
Other Thoughts: they could have rethought the wire placement for the light, but it's not necessarily a con

Sleek design
Pros: Aluminum body, high quality paint, very impressive design. The paint is polished, looks like a jewelry. It comes with a quality USB cable
Cons: I transfered 3 data massives of ~30 GB each. It took 30 min/each, but the drive gets VERY hot. I had to turn it off for half an hour between to cool down. It conducts better than plastic, but still your drive will inevitably die at some point. Good for ocasional use I guess? The LED light is pointless.
Other Thoughts: If it is used ocasionally or for just moving some data between comps it might be OK. However, I think the HDD will fry once you started transfering data. The design of the encclosure is superior then most competitors. Building quality is also high.

Excellent, power supply failed after 1 year
Pros: Very sleek looking, bright blue LED, no question of if it's on, transfer rates are excellent, light weight, keeps the drive pretty cool.
Cons: After one year, the front blue LED start just blinking, as well as the green light on the power supply, tested the PSU with a multimeter, and voltages were under spec and jumping around absurdly, I am filing an RMA for a new power supply, the enclosure seems fine otherwise.
Other Thoughts: Worked great other than the PSU failing, I bought two, one for me and one for my mother, and both power supplies failed within 2 weeks of each other.

Bought 5 over a year, have been great
Pros: Nice weighty feel, chic aluminum construction/design. IMO, the best looking 3.5" external enclosure available.
Cons: None yet. The test for external enclosures for me is how long they last with drives running 24/7. The Masscool enclosures all died at about a year.
Other Thoughts: I would like to give these enclosures 5 stars because they look so good and have been working well so far. But with external enclosures, it's all about longevity, and I have had half a dozen other enclosures die at about the year or year-and-a-half mark. I'd give these a five they they last over time.

Works so nice I bought it twice...
Pros: Exactly what I expected to work with my laptop computer for video (SDE) while on location. I enclosed a 500GB SATA-II into each enclosure for the ability to work on multiple projects. Stackable if using more than 1, nice and slim to fit into same case as laptop. Excellent for video capturing at a fast transfer rate of 3.0mbs with eSATA-II, or USB (2.0) with a system that is not equipped with eSATA-II.
Cons: I had a challenge getting it to perform at 3.0/mbs but it was not the fault of this enclosure it was the limitation of the HD being used. Also the eSATA-II cable supplied does not fit firmly into my eSATA-II Express/54 Card so I had to trim the end of the cable to get it to fit firmly.
Other Thoughts: Although the supplied flat eSATA-II cable works fine (after modification) I prefer and replaced the supplied flat cables with rounded (in my opinion more manageable) cables.

Great product
Pros: Very easy to install
Looks awesome
Comes with more than other like products (manual, screws, disc)
Works perfect
Cons: Single, multi-use LED that's very bright
Other Thoughts: This is the second 3.5" IDE->USB external enclosure I've bought for the same drive off of New Egg. The previous one was much cheaper, both in price and quality. This Vantec blows it out of the water, and New Egg's shipping is amazing.

Drives get too hot without a fan
Pros: Good, heavy aluminum enclosure. Better than all other fanless enclosures.
Cons: Not good for drives that will be turned on for more than a couple hours at a time.
Some drives may run too hot in this enclosure.
Other Thoughts: We use these in our business to ship out drives for forensics work. They are okay for temporary use during the day, but get hot if on for more than a couple hours.
I bought two of these, and put 500GB Maxtor 7200rpm Proline series drives in them. Using Speedfan to monitor drive temps, the drives were hitting 52c after one hour of use. Enclosure outside was very warm to the touch. This is too hot for these drives. They have thermal limits only to 60c before failing. My internal drives all run below 40c in my case.
I returned these enclosures and bought the new Antec Veris eSATA/USB enclosures. It has a bottom blower fan that circulates air all around the drive, not just on bottom. Drives are running below 40c in this enclosure.

Smooth
Pros: Very compact. The sleek aluminum case acts like a heat sink. Has pads to lay flat or a stand to sit vertical. The drive doesn't vibrate and make noise. Overall, it designed well and rugged. The instructions are very clear on how to format, and get windows to recognize the drive.
Cons: It doesn't have a cupholder?

Nice enclosure
Pros: good looking, sturdy, easy installation, and it works
Cons: not yet find any
Other Thoughts: i made my decision based on many other's good reviews, and now i am happy with it, so i try to contribute my thought. i use it for an old seagate 150GB harddrive, and the installation is quite simple, and it just works. As it runs, it gets warm, but still in a reasonable temperature I would say.

Works great !
Pros: This enclosure has a nice look, it isn't loudy really, easy to install, all the screws fit well, VISTA recognizes inmediately with no issues, my 200 GB HD fits OK in it, in general I can say this product works great.
Cons: Well, let's say the look is nice but the materials are not the best, BUT it's still GOOD and I like it so much... hey ! at this price this enclosure do it great !

Great enclosure
Pros: This looks nice, well-built, with no fan, very quiet. Small, aluminum dissipates heat. Cypress chipset.
Cons: Power cord is very short
Other Thoughts: The hard drive runs a bit warm/hot after leaving for half an hour. I think it should be a good sign because the enclosure can dissipate it out. The enclosure is smaller than I thought. Installation is easy, a little bit tight, you have to twist the cables. Detected by Windows XP suddenly even though 250GB Hard drive was not formatted yet. I formatted to NTFS and used it right away. Tried to transfer a 5GB file, no problem.

Pros: Excellent build quality and reliability. No problems so far.
Cons: Expensive and heavy. For slightly less you could purchase an enclosure of equal quality, and in comparison to the smaller 2.5" version, the price difference is not justified. The enclosure itself weights quite a bit, and in combination with a hard drive, it becomes a brick.
Other Thoughts: Overall, I am impressed. The positives in terms of quality outweigh the few negatives mentioned.

Poorly Built Electronics
Pros: Case is slick. It looks very nice, well built in my opinion. Heat dissipation is good for passive cooling.
Cons: EXTREMELY poor built electronics. The eSATA controller inside works maybe 1 out of 100 times. I have a WD Raptor 74GB inside it, and I MUST have the eSATA cable unplugged first before turning on, wait for it to spin up, THEN plug it in. Then it works. It will NOT work with a WD2500JS (250GB) SATA HD. I have two of them which both work, but won't work inside this enclosure.
Other Thoughts: If you will only use it for USB 2.0, feel free, but it would be a waste of money, you can get a cheaper, more reliable USB 2.0 enclosure for much less. DO NOT get if you want eSATA. There is a history of problems with eSATA from other reviews here.

Nice Enclosure
Pros: Very easy to set up. Color is awesome. Blue LED light in the front is sweet.
Cons: The ribbon cable can get pinched if you aren't careful. The screws in the back don't go in perfectly straight. If the LED blows, it's a pain to fix it.

Great external enclosure
Pros: I've been using this enclosure for quite a while now, never given me a problem. (My usb hub on the other hand...) But this unit provides sturdy enclosure while using passive cooling through the aluminum casing. (Which if you are stacking HDs, it might be a problem). I use 3 of these upright to each other.
I had a problem with the power cord, and the guys at Vantec shipped it out to me after just a single email to them.
Cons: The power button is at the bottom of the casing, which is sometimes hard to reach if you turn your usb HDs on/off frequently.
Other Thoughts: Overall the design is nice, the back interface could be setup more efficiently, but it doesn't take away the operation overall.

Looks Great So Far
Pros: Great Finish. Feels solid once installed. Blue LED is cool. i bought this one to replace another External case that was giving me problems. It instantly recongnized my drive and even seems to access faster then the external case I replaced.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I've seen and bought quite a few different cases out there, but so far, this one is the best i've come across.

So far So Good
Pros: Design is stylish, easy to install, and drive stand is a plus. I have been using couple of hours every day and it has been great - I hope it won't break.
Cons: I have not found any issues yet. I don't care if it gets a bit too hot (this enclosure does not come with a fan) and I care the least about the LED light - I use mine w/out the LED light anyway.
Other Thoughts: I purchased this enclosure because at work, the IT guys are using this enclosure and they are very happy with it.

Vantec Nexstar 3
Pros: This thing is exactly what i needed. i got tired of burning cds for backup and ending up with lots and lots of them i decided to back my files on a external harddrive and this enclosure is the perfect thing. if i have a extra harddrive laying around GET THIS!
Cons: NONE! EASY SETUP! i dont know why people have so much problem putting the harddrive and the enclosure together. come on...im 17 and i did it in less then 3 min. i think the hardest part was shoving everything in. the rest is easy. just screw in the screws... NO CONS AT ALL! but this product does it warm fast. i had my on for about 15 min and it was already pretty warm. it would of been nice if there was some kind of fan or air vent. this case is also a little too pricey...but hey...it works.
Other Thoughts: i definitely recommend this enclosure because it looks nice (matches my black case), it transfers data really fast and you'll never have to back up your files with cds anymore!

Working Great on Vista
Pros: Easy to install, drive fits perfectly. Case is sturdy and stylish. Couldn't ask for anything better.
Cons: The Vantec logo on the front is the LED light and it is much too large. Would look better if it wasn't an activity light blinking all the time. This can simply be unplugged, though.
Other Thoughts: Worked great with Vista Business x86, instantly recognized.

Easy Installation
Pros: Sleek, compact, very nice to look at. Very easy installation, about 5 minutes between opening the box and connecting to my computer. The formatting took the longest. No fan = no noise. I bought two of these enclosures (one blue, one black) and they work fine, both HDD’s fit without an issue, no rattling, etc. Definitely an excellent enclosure and I would recommend it for future use as well as the 1394 model. Very impressed.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I had read all the reviews for this product, including the reviews for the different colors (red, blue, gray), and there were several issues brought up by users.
If you don't like the bright LED, unplug it. Putting the hard drive in the case is very simple, use some elbow grease to squish the wires out of the way. As far as the case screws go: there is a little paint on the threads, so all it takes in one initial hard twist to get the screw into the thread and then there is no problem from there. Lastly, the complaints about the power adapter being bulky and annoying to carry—this has to be the smallest and lightest adaptor I’ve used for any product, there’s going to be no issue carrying it around.

Cons: Unable to get unit to work at all. Did not try very long because I expected iot to work first try. Newegg was very responsive in allowing return.

VANTEC Nexstar
Pros: No fan= no maintenance. Very minimal noise when using Maxtor HD.
Cons: A/C adapter is bulky.
Other Thoughts: After owning several HD cases, this one has been with me the longest...1 1/2 years to be exact. I don't see myself ever buying a new case unless something goes wrong with this one or they come out with a 300Gig HD that fits in your palm. I highly recommend this product.

Vantec Nextar
Pros: High gloss finish, compact size.
Cons: Initially, I had a concern about how warm the case gets but with good circulation, it eventually cools off.
Other Thoughts: Be careful when opening the case to install a drive as the connecting cable can get get caught up in the outer case and break. I purchased two cases and found this to be the case with each. Otherwise, no problems.

Ate my drive
Pros: Looks sexy
Cons: NexStar's AC adapters dont seem very good at regulating power. Both this unit and their previous plastic-cased unit have blown the power circuits on my drives. Use at your own risk.

Great External Enclosure
Pros: Read all the reviews and followed the hints, Screws, screwdriver, connecting cables, etc.. Read the instructions and then installed the HD in the enclosure. Took about 30 minutes in total. Win Xp recognized the drive, and it is up and running. Very easy. Good product.
Cons: So far NONE.
Other Thoughts: Ordered Monday evening, received Friday afternoon. Reviews were a great help in selecting and installing this product. Thanks to all who posted a review.

Very classy
Pros: Very aesthetically pleasing. Excellent packaging and the included documentation is very helpful. It comes with a CD but I didn't have to use it. It's very quiet, low profile, and sturdy. The case sides are very rigid and I really have to put some muscle into it to get the sides to flex. Even with doing that there is no effect in drive performance. There are rubber bumpers inside the case that hold the drive firmly in place. I will be buying another one for my second drive.
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: My review is based on the first day of operation. Therefore, I cannot speak to the longevity of the case. However, due to its metal construction I am fairly confident that it will outlast my old piece of junk plastic case.

Other Thoughts: takes a beating!!!!!

OOPS!
Pros: Disregard Previous review, was for a Silverstone enclosure.
Light weight, vertical stand, price.
Cons: FINGER PRINT CITY! Cheap plastic ends, as others have posted none threaded holes.
Other Thoughts: Would be better if it was solid aluminum and a brushed finish.

OK
Pros: Great buid quality, silent cooling fan. Heavy solid aluminum!
Cons: Due to the shape and no holder/shoe you cannot put it in a vertical position, it has to lay flat.
Other Thoughts: HEAVY, not for mobility if that's what you need.

Amazing buy
Pros: This thing is an amazing value. The construction is VERY sturdy, the hard drive mounting is a bit cramped, but fits very well. The case's finish is impeccable, very sleek and well put together. I'd buy another if I needed, for sure.
Cons: It does get a bit warm with the 320gb WD 7200rpm I have in it, but not HOT.
Other Thoughts: This is my second external drive (first was a PPA Intl METAL GEAR BOX), and this takes the cake. I wish it would be a bit cooler though.

Works Great
Pros: Data transfer is fast and it looks nice. Front cover is not loose at all. I'm using it with a Seagate Barracuda drive. This product is so good that i picked up the SATA version of it...had and extra drive laying around so i put it to good use.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Wished that the head parked on power off so that I can prepare it for travel.

Great Case
Pros: Great case, it doesn't run too hot when idle.
Cons: It was a little bit tricky trying to get the IDE cable and the LED power cable to fit snug within each other inside the case, but that is just a minor con... nothing major.
Other Thoughts: I agree with some other people that it would have been nice if the brick used a standard power cable instead of the three prong power cables that I don't commonly use.

Works Great
Pros: Cheap alternative to buying an external Hardrive. Looks pretty sweet.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Watch how you put the drive in, the ribbon cable is pretty craped up when you install.

Very Nice
Pros: Looks very slick, has a nice blue LED on the front, A quality product.
Cons: Would not recommend if you're going to be transporting it a lot. It's pretty big and requires a power pack that almost looks like its for a laptop.

Vantec Nexstar 3
Pros: The design is not bland, which is what computer techies want. The aluminum case is great. It offers protection and helps reduce heat buildup.
Simple installation. Great design. Great quality.
Cons: The only con that I have to agree with others is the issue with the two black case screws.
The reason why they wont screw in smoothly is because the threads inside the case are coated with paint. Just use a comfortable screw driver and screw it in. I suggest doing this w/o the hdd inside since small paint chips will be loose.
Not a problem.
Other Thoughts: Keep it shiney!
sell the grey usb version and I'll be all set.
