Great Buy
Pros: Inexpensive, quiet, keeps hard drive cool. USB connection works flawlessly.
Cons: 1394 connection had intermittent problems. Transfers would stop before completion. Don't know if problem was from cable or unit. Switched to USB and everything worked fine.
Other Thoughts: I would certainly buy another one of these if I needed another HD enclosure.

Sad and Sorry
Pros: Great set-up when you look at it, it doesn't look like a hdd. It has plenty of cooling to go along with it and really makes a man feel good.
Cons: Blew up when I turned it on, fried a 330 gig hd and almost started a fire. Capasitors couldn't handle what they needed to and went up like fireworks. The tops of all of them blew off, I thought I was being shot at.
BEWARE OF THIS PRODUCT.....

Nice Enclosure, Good Price
Pros: Good looking, quiet. HDD was installed quickly and with no problems. Vista installed the drive with no problems. Would buy more if needed. Backordered at NewEgg at the time of this review, what does that tell you.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace what I first thought was a failed or failing HDD when in fact it was a failed enclosure that was giving me the problem.

Cool and Quiet
Pros: A big internal fan blows air directly on the hard drive. A small fan on rear of cabinet exchanges air. With 2 fans running I expected a lot of noise, but the unit runs surprisingly quiet and is surprisingly cool. The case has a large padded foot that minimizes vibration to your desktop, and is large enough I don't worry about the drive tipping over very easily. Three different color LEDs on the front panel give you a status report at a glance. I had no problem plugging in my hard drive and no problem with WinXP recognizing the device as USB storage. It was assembled and running in 20 minutes and has been running for a month with no issues. Nice unit -- I recommend it.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Haven't tested the 1394 port. I have used only the USB port.

love these boxes
Pros: These boxes will connect to any computer. The drives run cool. I have moved terabytes of info through usb. This box will run just about any drive. I have two, one for backup, one to move files for repair purposes. I show them no mercy. The fans work great, if you want a hard drive toaster, buy a cheap box without fans.
Cons: The layout is very cramped. You should not buy this box, if you intend to swap drives often. One power cord quit on me. I blame this on myself. I always bend and quick tie the cords and put back in the original box for protection. No big deal, I had a spare. Be extremely carefull with wires when closing box after drive install.
Other Thoughts: This is my go to tool for backing up virus laden computers to save files. I backup files, virus check, then rebuild machines, and replace files. Use good high cache drives, and transfer is good. If you are using a 10 year old 4 cache drive, be ready to wach paint dry. This box is also great for removing drives from junk external drives to salvage files. I cannot count how many gigs of files I saved for people with bargain external drives that quit working for them. They have payed for themselves 100 fold. Always allow drive to spin up BEFORE attaching to computers. Always unmount the drives BEFORE removing from usb. They will work great. If you don't know about mounting and unmounting, read before you use this box. Ignorance is not a excuse for bad mouthing a good product. Even though it is hot swap, if you have a odd drive, you could scramble files.

Pros: Low price for USB and FireWire connectivity, has fan built in, comes with USB and FireWire cables. It looks pretty cool too. Have not had any problems with anything as far as connecting. My comp recognizes it right away and both the usb and firewire ports work great. I have put several of my old hard drives from dead computers in this enclosure and retrieved the data from them :-) Data transfers are reasonably fast for IDE hard drives.
Cons: The USB and FireWire cables are quite short, not really a big deal, considering they're free
Other Thoughts: These are really a great deal!

functional
Pros: functional enclosre -end result as expected, quick and fast -came with good instructions and all hardware -easy to install the drive -fan is quiet, solid enclosure -it has an internal power supply that is no external brick -i did not test for it buy consider installing the jumper for drive master -price was right considering the free shipping. -not bad looking
Cons: -the enclosure is heavy (even considering it has an internal power supply) and meant to be used on a desktop. all good tho because for a portable situation you would not consider a pata 3.5" drive but rather a slimmer format. -i would prefer a plastic enclosure. -i did not try the firewire but the usb was not fast
Other Thoughts: newegg has lots of boxes to choose from, consider this box. the last drive enclosure i got had no hardware, no instructions and really no way to install a drive. i had to drill my own holes and scrounge around for some brackets. wait 2 weeks from this review and all this will have changed tho.

Perfect
Pros: A bit larger than expected but very solid and the fan is well designed. Appearance is a plus for me. It looks like a functional piece of computer equipment and not a gadget from Star Wars.
Cons: Being picky here. The bezel did not line up perfectly upon reassembly without some force, but it's not a show stopper by any means. Allow yourself another 20 seconds to get it straight and you're done.
Other Thoughts: The fan design was much better than expected. It's roomy and allows for better ventilation than the smaller models available.

Nice, solid enclosure
Pros: Solid build, two cooling fans, internal power supply!
Cons: Even though it's pictured with cables, mine didn't come with USB, Firewire, or even a power cord. Granted, I have extras, but still.
Other Thoughts: It's nicely designed, and I'll probably get another one.

Workd Great
Pros: Very quiet unit. Power switch and fan are nice features. I really like the fire wire or usb option. Nice vertical stand saves space. I had no problem with the fire wire like some have complained about. Windows XP recognized it right away. It can be linked up with more units if needed. Good price.
Cons: Short usb wire but they are cheap so really no big deal. Same with firewire cable but they are also cheap.
