Still Going Strong
Pros: Installed in July 2008, still works great.
Lots of connectors...including plenty for SATA devices. Yes it's only rated at 400 watts but don't let that fool you. This 400 watt power supply will blow the doors off any cheapo 600 watt ps any day.
Ran my overclocked 8800GS flawlessly for well over a year, now running an HD4770. Easily enough power to run a GTS250 (or any G92 based card) without issue.
System Specs: C2D E7200 @ 3.42GHz, 4GB PC8500, XFX HD4770, SATA Optical Drive, 1 SATA HD, 1 IDE HD, 3 case fans.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Someone said there weren't enough long term reviews to judge reliability. Installed one of these in my sons machine in November of 08, that one is fine too. Bought another for my friends machine this summer...again no issues.
This is hands down the best $50 power supply out there. Google it, read some reviews. Received a silver award from HardOCP. The only other alternatives for me in this price range would be the lower priced offerings from Antec.

Very Good
Pros: I have been running this now for 14 months. When I first installed it, it was loud. That is because it was running at full power. That alerted me to the fact I had spyware on my computer that was running. I got rid of the spyware and I never hear the fan now.
Cons: None

Nice unit
Pros: Ive had this one sitting on a shelf for some time as It was on sale and bought it for a backup. I finally installed it in a new build a couple days ago and its quiet and running great so far. Even though its not a high dollar PS it seems to be of decent quality and am pleased so far with it.
Cons: No cons, long term reliability remains to be seen but have positive impression of the Silverstones quality.
Other Thoughts: NEVER - - EVER -- EVER buy a no-name cheapo power supply, its not worth risking blowing up hundreds of dollars of hardware to save $20.00 - $30.00 or whatever on the power supply. Cheap supplies can be the cause of no end of hard to find glitches, like spontaneous reboots and who knows what else depending on what the deficiency in the PS is -- not to mention just plain frying your parts at any given time. And even with a name brand, dont let the brand fool you into thinking you can load down a $35-$40.00 power supply with too much hardware, always leave a safety margin of about 25% or more draw below the max rating so its not working at full load all the time-- Chances of a failure or glitch are much less likely.

Steadily Performing PSU
Pros: This is a great unit. It started as my main PSU for several months until I replaced it with a different brand that offered more power. After that unit died (died!), I switched back to my Silverstone with no problems whatsoever. I've never had a problem or hiccup with this PSU.
Cons: 400 watts is a little low, so I'd like a higher wattage PSU with the Silverstone label.
Other Thoughts: A good PSU is one that you install and forget about. When this PSU is in, I never worry.

Absolutely love it!
Pros: Absolutely love it! It has just about every connection you could ever need. Long cables can reach anywhere in the case, lots of SATA connectors, comes with a cable management strap, runs quiet, reliable power, looks nice ...
Cons: Its not hydrogen powered ;)
Other Thoughts: Would buy this power supply again in a heartbeat. Best PS I've ever used.

Quiet, low price
Pros: Runs quieter than my cpu cooler, powers my system perfectly, hope to use it for quite some more time. It has been working for about 11 months, at least 15 hours a day. Lives up to its Silverstone name.
Cons: None :)
Other Thoughts: System Specs: Intel Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz ECS (ELITEGROUP) 915P-A2 2x 1GB Micron DDR2 667MHZ RAM EVGA GeForce 9600GT 512GB GDDR3 SILVERSTONE 400W power supply

Quiet, lots of SATA power connectors
Pros: Quiet, 4 SATA power connectors, plenty of power for a basic PC
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I bought this to build a budget PC. My two main requirements were silent operation and at least 3 SATA power connectors. This power supply was one of the lowest price units available (after rebate) and it had good reviews, so I ordered one. I have not been disappointed. It does exactly what I need it to do. My PC was built using components that don't require tons of power, so 400W is great plenty for me.

Died at 6 Months
Pros: Silverstone is supposed to be a quality manufacturer. The power supply appears to be high quality.
Cons: The supply became flaky at 3 months, and died 3 months later.
Other Thoughts: There are not enough long-term user reveiws to judge how long this power supplies might last. So I've decided to replace this supply with FSP Group's SAGA+ 400R power supply. That one has dozens of long-term user reveiws, most of which are still happy with their purchase. So I hope to have better luck with that power supply.
Manufacturer Response:Thank you very much for purchasing a SilverStone. Since your power supply is still in warranty, I would suggest you to contact our US office directly for return and exchange. The contact information can be found in the below link: http://www.silverstonetek.com/contactus.php?area=

Gets the job done
Pros: Good, quiet, stable power supply. Doesn't feel like an empty soda can like some other cheaper PSU's. Can handle a 9800GT, two hdd's, a 3600+, and 4 fans easitly.
Cons: See other thoughts. its not really a con, just an annoyance lol
Other Thoughts: ALOT of wires and connectors. If you have a small case, you might have a bit of an issue trying to manage all of the wires, but thats what the space behind the cd drive bay's are for ^_^

First one bad...second one good
Pros: The second one hasn't given me any problems. It has plenty of connectors. Cables are long enough.
Cons: The first one I received was defective...I had many problems with returning the defective one. After about two months of email tag I finally managed to get an RMA number and it took 3 weeks after that to get my new one.
THEY DO NOT CROSS SHIP!
Other Thoughts: Its good but pray that it works.

Failed at 2 years
Pros: Solid performer for entire length of warranty!! ;)
Cons: Failed at 2 years Energy inefficient
Other Thoughts: Why can't a power supply be made to last indefinitely? Is this intentional functional obsolescence, cheap quality, or both? I guess I had bought into the hype that Silverstone meant quality--what a crock. I take care of my equipment--always keep it plugged into surge protected UPS, vacuum vents, etc. No excuse for this failing so early.

Can be quite noisy
Pros: Quite quiet when there is zero load on the CPU
Cons: Fan constantly varying speed(thus noise) as CPU usage changes. It can be quite irritating. When the CPU is in heavy use. Fan is quite noisy.
Other Thoughts: I would buy a PS that has a fan sensitive to real temperature, not predicted temperature changes.

Bought Another One
Pros: Just bought my 2ndone of these to use in my Homeserver. Works great and is a power house for 400w. It has as much amps on the 12v rails as many 550W PS. A good PS should have at least 75% of the rated power on the 12v rails. This one is over 80%. I'm really happy with this supply.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Silverstone and Newegg are the best!

Good PSU
Pros: 120mm fan is very quite, can't hear it at all, powers my new computer (spec see below) no problems. CHEAP, $30 AR. Mailing out rebate today.
Cons: Not a con, but I didn't read clear enough, my motherboard takes a 8pin atx connector, this PSU only have one 4 pin ATX (which is clearly stated in description). Still works fine though. No power problems at all.

Great Quality PSU
Pros: Heavy and lots of amperage for a 400-watt. Feels and amps closer to a 500-watt. Very quiet and good airflow. Lots of connections. Excellent price before rebate; the rebate just makes the deal even sweeter!
Cons: Only a one-year warranty.
Other Thoughts: This PSU has four SATA ports. I got confused by the description saying two and almost bought a different model. It has two rows of two SATA ports.

VERY Quiet
Pros: It is heavy and very well made. Looks great too. Plugged it into my PS tester and all voltages read good. Fan runs so quiet it is inaudible. Good holdup time when powered off. Main cables are wrapped nicely. Has all the connections one would expect from a 400W PS.
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: Hope I get the rebate then it will be a super steal. It's just a good buy without the rebate. I don't know where you can get a high quality 400W unit for under $45 must less $30. Buy it now!

DOA X 2
Pros: Looks like a great deal for mid to low end system with plenty of power and connectors.
Cons: Roll the dice as to whether you get one that works or not. BOTH that I recieved were DOA. Tried in a working system and on bench. Would not power on at all.

Quiet
Pros: Used this in an HTPC build; my first time actually building a computer. Works great, is extremely quiet, etc, etc...
Cons: An overabundance of cables.
Other Thoughts: It came set to 230V....... and I almost didn't notice before I plugged it in.

No Problems
Pros: Not DOA. Very good quality, comes with plenty of cables. Runs my system with no problem what so ever. The fan on it is very quiet, and keeps it very cool. with APFC, dual 18 amp 12V+ rails, running at an average of 29 amps, this is extremely good for the price.
Cons: Only 70% efficiency. Wish all the cables were sleeved, and the cables are pretty stiff, so cable management was pretty difficult in my small case, although the cable it comes with helps with cable management. Packaging was average at best. Remember to change the voltage switch.
Other Thoughts: PC Specs: Dell Inspiron 531 EVGA 9600 GT 4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHZ AMD 64 X2 4000+ 2.1GHZ (Usually overclocked at 2.4GHZ using nTune.) 250GB Hard Drive Sound Blaster Audigy SE Sound Card 1 DVD Burner Windows Vista Basic Generic Dell AM2 Motherboard Old Media Card Reader out of an old Compaq PC

Pros: Nice and quiet. Enough wiring and long.
Cons: none

Good basic budget PSU
Pros: Good basic cheap power supply. No frills but you get what you pay for. Is a FSP based PSU (which is a good thing IMO). Robust build, ok on the voltage stability. [H]OCP gave it a silver award and T*m's Hardware used it on their example budget gamer rig running two 8800GT's in SLI. Was a steal at $29, still good at $49.
Cons: I bought it when it was $49 and not $29. :( Silverstone switched their 400W Strider from Enhance to FSP. :( :(
Other Thoughts: When the market is full of PSU's that state high wattage but are pieces of junk, this one is actually decent for its price. It won't wow any enthusiast PC but it will get the job done for many PC's out there.

Great budget PSU
Pros: Very stable PSU for the money. I'd rather buy this 400W one over some no-name brand 600W unit. I have bought 4 of these in the last 3 months and have run systems from basic socket A rigs to even my dual core AMD HTPC without a hickup.
Cons: Not modular, only the ATX power lead is sleeved.
Other Thoughts: This PSU should do fine for a basic dual core system with a small video card and 1-2 hard drives. For overclocking and/or a quad core with bigger GPUs you should be looking at the 600W ST60F or something equivalent.

Worth the price -- Silent and High Quality!
Pros: This is an incredible power supply! It has tons and tons of connectors even a whole string for Sata. The processor is freakin awesome. I built a computer a customer and the power support is absolutely silent. Huge fan but absolutely silent I haven't heard a peep out of it yet. Lots of holes so the heat flows out nicely and the power supply is well ventelated. Doesn't look like it's going to burn out anytime soon.
It's normally worth $50 and I got it from NewEgg for $30. Great deal! Definitely well worth the same! Was a little scepticle of Silverstone, never heard of them but now I will be getting my power supplys from them more often!
Cons: Can't think of anything, the power supply is perfect!
Other Thoughts: Definitely a buy if you have the money.

Excellence for a Low Price
Pros: Strong 12 volt rail with 29 amps total available, 120 mm fan for quiet cooling, 20+4 Compatibility, Looks Great Visually, Has Sata Connectors. Also has decent 3.3 and 5v rails for older compatibility.
Cons: Not quite as many molex connectors are you would want for a lot of peripherals.
Other Thoughts: This is truly the best power supply you can find in this price range right now. I got mine on black Friday for under a twenty spot, and its worth every penny. It has a very good build quality for this price range and is comparable to many higher priced models.
This isn't your top of the line 80 Plus power supply for high end SLi or Crossfire, but it will do the trick for just about any dual/quad processor rig with a single video card. You won't want to run a GTX-280 on this, but if your building anything from a bargain bin custom internet browsing rig, all the way up to a mid range overclocking rig, this would be a great choice for the one short on cash.
Or if you just need to replace your blown OEM power supply this will do the trick.
Also make sure you switch it off of the 230v setting which it comes from the factory set at. The little sticker is there for a reminder, but just in case you missed it, flip it to where it says the correct voltage for your country.

Everything you need
Pros: Tons of connections for everything you need, long cables to easily reach anywhere in the case, comes with a long Velcro cable tie to manage the cables in your case, good fan design, decent efficiency, 100K hours lifespan.
Cons: Not 80%+ Efficiency, only 400W. (Neither of which are flaws, just stats clearly stated on NewEgg's specs).
Other Thoughts: Thought 1: Other reviews have pointed out that the power supply is by default set to 230volts. Don't worry, if you read english you cant miss this. There is a big red sticker covering the AC Plug that clearly states this must be changed. You have to remove this sticker just to plug the power supply in. Not easy to miss this fact.
Thought 2: This Power Supply is HEAVY. This power supply isn't made of cheap light-weight materials.

Quite good for the price (especially when on sale(
Pros: Very well built Very well reviewed online Very inexpensive for what you get Good looking, with cable sleeving on some of the cables
Cons: *120mm fan blows onto heatsinks not designed for top-down cooling, so the fan must ramp up higher then if it was designed with heatsinks speficially made for top-down cooling *sleeving does not cover the entire cables that it is put on, there are a few inches of cable on both ends of the sleeved cables left uncovered
Other Thoughts: All in all, for the money this is as good as it gets. If you don't need more then a GOOD actual 400w supply (google PMPO, it's scary, most PSU brands do similar with power supplies!)... this one is a real 400 watts. If that's all you need (if you have one CPU and one vidcard you're fine with this)

Does the job on the cheap
Pros: Inexpensive. Typical Silverstone quality. Quiet 120mm fan.
Cons: Not as effecient as Earthwatts or similar.
Other Thoughts: I couldnt' resist buying a couple of these for extras. They draw more power than a high-end power supply at equivalent load (I tested against Earthwatts), but the price difference would buy you a year of electicity ... I wouldn't use this for a server but for a light gaming/work box it will serve well.

Awesome Unit
Pros: Great power supply! Has plenty of connectors and nice long sheathed cables.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I should have bought two when they were on sale. But that is okay as I still need the second one and again it will be this unit I purchase.

Seems to be well made...
Pros: case is well perforated, making for good air flow. Huge fan. Quiet. LONG wires; don't even worry about them being long enough. Unit is fairly heavy, seems Silverstone didn't skimp on components.
Cons: none so far
Other Thoughts: ordered this with MB & some other stuff; was at my door in two days! phenomenal!

SILVERSTONE ST400 400W
Pros: I replaced a RAIDMAX RX-450YX120 450W that lasted 2 years and 2 days. So far it is working good. Quiet but not silent. It runs cooler then the Raidmax it replaced. Wires are long so it should fit a large case.
Cons: None

upgrade my dell 4600
Pros: cheap/works nice great big fan, quiet (but not silent) powersupply, that has a fan big enough that it provides sufficient additional case cooling for a fanless 3650 AGP video card (that others had added additional case fans to cool.
Cons: nope

A little misleading, but a great power supply
Pros: 400W of power. Very quiet (at lower power levels). High MTBF. Long leads (works well in my HTPC case).
Cons: Cabling is not modular, and only some are wrapped. Noise level advertised is at very low wattage, at close to or near PSU capacity, sound according to packaging is almost 38. 1 year warranty is kind of lame, shouldn't need it though.
Other Thoughts: Silverstone LC-17 HTPC case Silverstone Strider 400 PSU Gigabyte GA-MA-78GPM-DS2H Mobo AMD BE-2400 Dual Core CPU 2x1 GB DDR2 800 OCZ Memory LG Bluray Drive Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Loudest thing in the case, the bluray drive...every component can be touched safely after running under heavy load for hours on end.

Pros: This thing has a nice heft to it, I've read that means quality. Some, not all, of the wire bundles have a mesh covering so that was a nice surprise. Nice and quiet. Each SATA wire(s) has 2 SATA connectors (4 SATA power connectors overall), which I wanted since my next system should have all SATA peripherals (I hope). In reading Newegg's PSU descriptions, most didn't specify "dual" SATA connecters. Not sure if that's a norm I'm misreading there; does "2xSATA" mean 2 SATA power connections or 4?
Cons: Only for Newegg's $10.87 shipping; seemed a bit steep.
Other Thoughts: The voltage switch was set to 230v which I thought was odd, no problem though.

Powerhouse
Pros: - 18 amps per rail (2) - Powers my 8800GS rig no hiccups - Amazing price
Cons: - Doesn't power my home..
Other Thoughts: I would use this on all of my rigs from my top end gaming to low end word processors. Powers my 8800GS/AMD x2 with no problems and can handle much more.

Great PSU
Pros: Just adding my 2 cents to the rave reviews here. Specs are great, long leads, quiet as can be. This one is a great "bang for the buck" power supply.
Cons: Um, lots of wires to tie up if you are a cable management freak like I am.
Other Thoughts: If you need a PSU in the 400 watt range this is the one to get.
The power supply is NOT where you want to save money in your build - DON'T get those 25-30 dollar junkers, get this one. MTBF rating is 100,000 hours - that's good stuff.

Works fine, thank you.
Pros: Works great and has more than enough power for my modest little HP computer. I also like the fact that it`s black like my PC case, therefore if anyone sees the back of my computer they`ll notice that the PSU matches the case. =D
Cons: None that I`m aware of. You can attribute a con to me because I know virtually nothing about PSUs.
Other Thoughts: I installed this in a Pavilion a6110n, which inexplicably came with a 20-pin power supply; the ASUS M2N68-LA Narra2 motherboard has a 24-pin connector. Not a big deal from what I understand, but I feel a whole hell of a lot better with this SilverStone PSU running the show. I must give props to the other 16 of you before me that reviewed and recommended this PSU, as that`s 90% of the reason I bought it. Very pleased with the purchase, thanx!

sweet......
Pros: Great 400 watt power supply...Does what a lot of 500 watt power supplies can`t do. Check out the review from hardocp. In the $50.00 psu roundup..this is the only psu that passed all their tests.
Cons: Hope it holds up and lasts a long time... Still don`t know how to register or get warranty info..? Emailed silverstone..So far no reply?
Other Thoughts: Thanks newegg for fast delivery.

Quality PSU
Pros: I needed a power supply that could handle my new 8800GS. This PSU handles it.
Cons: No.
Other Thoughts: For my system, this provides plenty of power. Others may need more wattage. Enough amps on the 12V rails to power a single 8800GT. My Rig: Core 2 Duo E7200 (OC'ed), 2 x 1 GB G.SKill RAM, SATA Optical Drive, 2 IDE HD's, eVGA 8800GS (OC'ed), 3 case fans.

400W seems to be enough
Pros: -Works. I was afraid that 400W wouldn't cut the mustard with a q9450, two hard drives, a GeForce 8800GT graphics card and about a 20%overclock. Good news! It does. It cuts the mustard well :). Thanks Tomshardware for recommending it.
Cons: It costs more than the $20 power supplies that I was using previously. They failed every 6-12 months or so though. I'll update this review if it fails in the same timeframe.

Pros: Best bang for the buck period. I did quite a bit research on power supplys before this purchase. Every test review I read on the ST-400 was very positive. As a matter of fact, there is no other power supply in this power range for the price that compares. It's quite, and the 120mm bottom side fan is keeping it nice and cool.
Cons: None

Convenient
Pros: The design is simple, and effective. The PS has a power connector (20+4), 12v aux cable, 1 PCI-e cable, 2 cables with 2 connections for SATA, and 2 cables with 3 connections (1 of the 2 cables has a floppy connector) for PATA devices.
I installed the PS in a Socket-A system that is without SATA or PCI-e. Using the strap that came with the PS, I was able to securely wrap the cables I didn't need, and tucked them away, keeping the rest of the case clear for the 2 conveniently long PATA power cables. Cable 1 powers an IDE DVD-RW at the top of the case, a floppy drive at center, and an IDE HD at bottom. The second cable supports my fans. The setup couldn't have been any more convenient for my needs, and the inside of my case is clear for excellent airflow.
Cons: 1. Short warranty of one year. 2. No APFC.

Its alright
Pros: Seems to power everything very well. High airflow. Good brand. Deff worth it for the price.
Very long cables, would most likely work in like an Antec P180 or 182
Cons: Not REALLY quiet, there is some noise there, but its not like a tornado or anything. Corsair VX450 was quieter when it wasnt whining (almost never)
Not all cables are wrapped in mesh, only the 20+4, the P4 and the PCIe pwr.
Other Thoughts: Mine came set to 230 volts, last time i remember most people run a 115. I havent gone to the extent of measuring each rail for acuracy, dont much care though because it powers everything fine.

Excellent Value
Pros: Plenty of juice for all but the absolute most demanding set ups (I mean SLI, Crossfire + Quad Core CPU, etc). Has a good heft to it, definitely not cheaply made. Tons of cables, plenty long for even large cases. Reasonably quiet.
Cons: Not totally silent, but I'd be lying if I said that you could find better in this price range or for even fifty bucks more.
Other Thoughts: A worthwhile purchase for an enthusiast builder on a budget, or even for someone without much of a budget.

SilverStone Power Supply
Pros: This unit is great. It does what it says, I received it pretty quick and it installed without any problems. There are plenty of connections for both SATA and IDE devices. It's powerful and quiet, and best of all it comes with a huge cooling fan. This is a great power supply for anyone who's looking to upgrade your current power supply like I did, or for a reliable power unit for a new build. This unit is just great.
Cons: The only con, if you can call it that is the length of the cables. They are extremely long, you will need some cable ties to keep up with the extra cables. I have used cable ties to keep some air flow circulation in my case. This unit is great for really tall cases because the cables will reach the bottom.
Other Thoughts: Most standard computer that you buy from a retailer have weak power supplies, usually around 250 or 300 watts at best. This is a great upgrade from standard power supply units, it's made by one of the most respected companies in the business. Although this isn't their best product it is pretty powerful.

Great PSU
Pros: I did not get this model when I built my computer 3½ weeks ago, but the one I got was discontinued. That being said...
This is an awesome PSU. Very quiet, does what it is suppose to do.
Cons: Long Cables i guess.. I did a SUGO-E build, so that was a small problem.
Other Thoughts: I actually got the ST40EF (80+ certified vs 79% eff on this one... same thing), SG-01 case, NT-06 cooler, (all three sliverstone), 250 GB hd x2, 1 gig ram x2, DVD burner, Gigabyte ma69vm, 5400+,ati HD 3850.
This is about as much power as a single GPU computer will ever need. But still there are great online PSU calc. out there. Use them. And read reviews... I can't stress either point enough.

Solid
Pros: Very solid product. Got this on the recommendation of a friend who knows a bit more about PSU's then I do...overall it's very quiet, looks nice, and works very well. I did not do any testing of the rails to see if they are working as advertised...used for a budget recording rig so I didn't need much anyways. Best part is how quiet it is.
Cons: Not all cables are wrapped in mesh. CPU power was a bit short, although I've ran into that on quite a few PSU's.
Other Thoughts: I'd say this is your best choice in a PSU for the money.

good clean power
Pros: quiet, strong +12 rails, heavy and short cables for a small case.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: i did buy this to go with a 8600gt in a Gateway gt4010, but i cant turn off the onboard graphics, so the card wont work.no way gateway cant tell me how.so i had to return it and the card. i already have good power(a 330w silverstone)

good stuff
Pros: very stable, small, and powerful +12v rails for 400 watts, will power a single card system easily.
Cons: wires arent sleeved :(
Other Thoughts: this got a silver award from the notorious [H] guys and i can see why, if you want a budget psu for a single card system not overclock to the hills then this is it.

Great Power Supply
Pros: Powerful & quiet. Good solid & quiet power supply. Very quiet, almost silent. Heavy & good voltage on all rails. Recommended
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: 18 amps on both 12v rails. I have seen 500w + power supplies that can't do that. Might not be enough for an extreme gaming machine, but should be more than plenty for most machines out there. Highly recommended.
