8mg cache.
cheaper than anything Intel selling with similar stats

Cons: it doesn't fight crime. :(
u would need a after market cooler
(which i already own) 'Cooler Master V8 recommended

Other Thoughts: this thing is great
this thing runs my 4890 to the wall, all the games run smoother, ungraded from Athlonx2 6000+

Rating + 4 needs abetter heat sink.

Pros: It worked very well.

Cons: chip and heat sink fused together. had to use a hairdryer to separate the two. once that happened fingers slipped on the heat sink compound and I bent about 40 pins. straightened them all until the last one which broke. no good!!!! only had it for three months. now I have to buy another one.

Other Thoughts: needs a better heatsink!

Rating + 5 WOW!

Pros: Bought this to replace my AMD 64 X2 5400 BE. All I have to says is $@%^ this is fast! Getting 7.3 on the Win7 Experience. Runs cool, took off my Zalman 9500 and used the AMD heatsink provided. No issues what so ever and very quiet. Plus.. It doesn't slice every finger like the 9500 aluminum blades did.

Cons: Not a processor con but it didn't like my ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe. Did the required BIOS update, there is no ACC to turn off and still would not boot. Bought a GIGABYTE GA-MA785GT-UD3H and it worked directly from boot. Sorry ASUS but Gigabyte wins this battle.

Rating + 5 Do EVERYTHING at once

Pros: 4 cores mean you can run Itunes, Mozilla, 2 copies of your favorite MMO (besides Age of Conan probably) a combat parser, Fraps, and antivirus without so much as a hiccup.

-or-

Run Crysis at max settings DX10 2560x1600 (with an appropriate video card)

AMD gives more bang for your buck

Cons: Its not "technically" the top of the line, Intel IS better

Other Thoughts: I didn't overclock this CPU and I can run ANY game on the market as of 2-3-2010 at max settings on 2560x1600 resolution. (I have a Radeon 4870x2 and 4gigs of RAM)

This CPU does the job and then some

If you have the money for Intel then go for it, but for the builder on a budget this is the one.

Pros: Very nice upgrade from the 7750 in my son's computer. Stuck with AM2+ because I didn't want to by new RAM also.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I haven't overclocked yet, as the games he plays and the resolutions he plays at are good for now.

Rating + 5 Great CPU for price

Pros: low cost, high speed and very reliable processor. I bought this last month to run in a home theater case, i'm running server 2008 R2 with hyper-v and this thing is stable with 6 machines running at the same time. incredible performance and an incredible overclocker!!!!!

Cons: runs really hot, with stock heat sink in the home theater case it was running at 58C under load at stock settings. put a liquid system on it and now I am able to overclock it to 4.1GHZ and am still only at 49 under load.

Other Thoughts: great processor but high wattage makes it really hot, do not plan on using the stock heat sink if you want to overclock past 3.4GHZ

Rating + 5 -------> Wow!!!! <--------

Pros: Wanted to do this 2 years ago to my system, but $$ kept me away from it. Over doubled system performance and I have not even overclocked it yet. Probably won't need to. It only took me about 15 min to swap processors and my system was back up. Got increase in memory clock speed to 1066 on AM2+ socket, another Ghz speed and x4 cores. Another couple of years to go now before next upgrade!

Cons: What con compared to what I had? I can't get enough open windows to slow this thing down! Prime 95 running in background on memory testing, got MS Encarta, old Age of Empires in window, Google Earth, Quicken, several Firefox windows, virus scan in progress and more. Got and old AutoCAD program running and this CPU doesn't stop!

Other Thoughts: This is more bang for the buck than Intel can do period! This socket 940 may be phased out, so for my older MB the price/performance was the only way to go instead of buying entire new hardware upgrade. Highly recommended! If you plan on overclocking, probably want to get better fan for CPU....running 42 C now....and use Artic Silver for thermal compound....

Rating + 5 Decent CPU for the Price

Pros: Fast, and I mean really fast sure it isn't rated as high as the Intel i7, but its also about $300 cheaper. Will go through anything you throw at it and more!!!

Cons: The only con is due to my own stupidity, nothing bad on Neweggs's part. I had purchased my mobo looking over the fact that it only supported 95w cpus ant this one is 125. But easy fix, just gonna buy a new mobo.

Other Thoughts: Buy it, its worth it :)

Pros: -Fast: encoded a 700mb avi to dvd in about 30mins, my old 3.2Ghz pentium 4 took 2.5 hrs
-Quad Core
-Big cache
-Very afforadable

Cons: it runs a little hot for my liking, but not a big deal. Idles around 40C and load at about 55C-60C.

Other Thoughts: I used to be a big Intel fan

Rating + 5 Bang for the buck!

Pros: These quad core processors from AMD simply crush app! To do what they do at such a low price is amazing. Keep this in mind - the increase in price to an Intel i7 is not proportional to the increase in performance. Stop hoping for a future day when you'll be able to afford an Intel chip - just drop in one of these AMD quad cores and start crushing your applications RIGHT NOW!

Cons: This processor eats 125 Watts - hasn't mattered to me, since the included retail cooling has plenty of copper and a big, quiet fan - but someone out there might care.

Other Thoughts: I could hardly believe the performance I got for the price. From desktop applications to heavy 3D gaming (DX10 titles like Bioshock). Do an inexpensive upgrade to your PC right now and start enjoying your life.

Rating + 5 Great CPU!

Pros: Incredibly fast cpu! Incredibly fast shipping! No more bottlenecks or lags. I upgraded from an Athlon 64 x2 6000+ and whowww... What a difference! It was worth every dollar. Very pleased with it. Currently running at 3.14 GHz on stock heatsink and thermal pad (haven't tried clocking past that yet). Soon will use Arctic Silver 5 paste. I don't care about benchmarking against an i7, just as long as it runs anything I'm doing fast with no problem...

Cons: Don't know how this happened, but just after installing the cpu, a Startup program called "memsave.exe" was causing my pc to freeze every time it loaded the desktop. Froze immediately. Had to take my pc to a computer shop, called PCs+, and they removed the file and now all is working fine. So just a reminder to everyone: disable all your startup programs before switching to this cpu, or any cpu.

Other Thoughts: Glad I didn't have to upgrade my 350w psu. Next purchase I will. Newegg is the greatest!

Pros: Amazing processor! I've put this in both my own and my friends am2n32-sli deluxe. It works flawlessly, just update the bios.. I am currently, watching a movie, running prime95, and writing this review. It is running perfectly with no hitches. I used Cooler Master Thermal Fusion and it seems to be running around 50*C or less? Can't find a tool to measure it accurately. I'm quite happy with my purchase, i can now max out all games I have from ME2 to Shift to GRID to GTA4.. the list goes on and on

Cons: I really honestly wish I could find a nice temperature tool that would give the real temperatures of the processor and the cores. But honestly I just extended my motherboards life by probably 2 years.

Other Thoughts: I'm coming from a 64 x2 5000+ BE. This is PHENOMenal :P
I'm pretty much gushing over this thing.. But if you have an am3 I'd just suggest step it up a few marks.

If it means anything, none of the four cores haven't gone above 57*. And the "Core" hasn't gone above 70*. This is after more than half an hour of prime95.

Pros: Well, i have to say that this processor is way better than the one i had, not to mention its keeping my rig a lot cooler with the help of the fan and heatsink, i had a x4 phenom I, and had little to no problems but for this price compared to the i7 and the motherboard id of had to buy this takes the cake

Cons: None for now

Other Thoughts: Ive had this processor for a few days now, and it is alot quieter then my previous one, it also helps run my games alot better ^^ hope this helps...

Rating + 5 Excellent upgrade from early Phenom II

Pros: Excellent CPU. BOINC benchmarks the system at 9GFLOPS, and Fallout 3 runs at 1920x1200. My VM OS installations run fine. I have not had any stability problems.

Cons: My motherboard doesn't recognize the CPU ID, but that doesn't affect anything.

Other Thoughts: This comes with a heat pipe cooler, which does an excellent job. The cooler recommended by Newegg for the CPU doesn't fit in my case due to additional hard drives. I'll save it for upgrading my other system.

Pros: Great value for the price. OC's very well. 34C idle with stock HSF. Upper 40's under load.

Cons: It's not an i7 but it can be a better value depending on what you're using it for. For me it's a much better value.

Pros: My first AMD since dual cores were first starting to appear. It's a fast quad core, it's cheap, and it overclocks great. What is not to like?

Cons: 125 watt TDP, but isn't an issue with a quality PSU.

Other Thoughts: In my opinion, best bang for the buck. Especially if you have a decent board to overclock this on.

Rating + 5 AMD is back baby!

Pros: Wow, price is reasonable.... Performance is downright sick especially at 3.5ghz. Minimal voltage bump and rock stable at that speed. Makes games just fly, it's what I wish my 9850BE had been. I'm glad I supported and sent business to AMD during the x2 years.

Cons: Wish these could have another price drop, got mine on here for 165 and it was still worth it. the performance is just massive, so no real cons here.

Other Thoughts: Stellar stellar turnout by AMD. I hope that they can deliver another round in the 2010 bulldozer race. I'm excited for once about AMD's future? Intel better not rest on their laurels...

Pros: I don't push this thing really at all running just stock right @ the moment Vcore 1.18V, and it still rocks, Iv'e played games @ 3.8 (Stable) and it loves it with the right volts but beware. (Read below)

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: If U have to run stock cooler run this @ stock speed and lower the core volts if U can it can get hot, I've got a sunbeam 120mm core contact freezer on it and I can do whatever I want, It's a great combo running this on a DFI LP DK 790 FXB-M2RSH, I feel I don't know much but trying to help !

Rating + 5 Great AM2+ Upgrade.

Pros: The perfect step up from my Windsor dual core, without having to go to an AM3 board.

Cons: Kinda annoying that it stayed at 165$ while the AM3 Phenom II's where selling for 99$. I guess they really want you to upgrade your MB while your at it.

Other Thoughts: Typical that i sat a long time waiting for it to drop from that magical 165$ price tag and now 3 weeks after I buy it it starts dropping (Currently priced at 155.99$).
Ahh, well still very happy with my purchase, about a 3-400% speed increase from my Windsor chip.

Rating + 5 Why feed the hogs

Pros: Great speed and no lose in speed coming from the i7 920. Why feed the hogs ,dont pay double for same speed intel . AMD is leaving a mark with this CPU an intel still holds there price on the 920 double . Dont do it ,they are price jacking for little to no performance increase.

Cons: Well done AMD

Other Thoughts: Intel will have to lower its price by 50% on there cpu's or they will lose enough business they could get in trouble again.

Rating + 4 Probably the best AM2+ CPU

Pros: -Fast
-Reliable
-Works well
-Unlocked multiplier

Cons: I bought this right after it came out and with a Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P and a Cooler Master V8 it will "only" hit about 3.65 Ghz stable no matter what voltage I throw at it. This is fast enough for most games in reality, but I was really hoping to hit 4.0+ Ghz.

This chip is known to have a ceiling of ~3.7 Ghz max OC no matter what (unless you use LN2 or something) but nobody knew that until a while after it came out, which was after I bought it.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend the 955/965BE as the new revision is more likely to get you to 4.0+ Ghz with conventional cooling. Also the 955/965 is AM3, which has the added benefit of being able to use the cheaper DDR3 memory and motherboards with support for USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s will almost exclusively be AM3 only.

All in all, if you need an AM2+ CPU (for an AM2+ only motherboard) and you don't care about overclocking, this CPU will be great.

Rating + 5 Best Bang for Buck - EVAR!

Pros: A smokin' cpu that does EXACTLY what its supposed to and more. I've had this thing OC'ed at 3.6 ghz for the last three months on an AC Freezer 64 without any problems. Intel can not touch this chip dollar-for-dollar, nothing they sell at the same price can come even close. I would be willing to bet that this chip would easily go 4 ghz on a well designed water cooling system.

Cons: Uhmm.....'fraid not.

Other Thoughts: System:

Other Thoughts: I originally put theis in my ASUS MSN2e borard which really wasn't able to utilize it but it ran fine ; then I put in in an AMD2+ board and man - is this thing quick. no crashes either

Rating + 5 3 in a week and amazing phenomenal power!

Pros: 3 this week and my builds have beeb BLAZING!

ASUS, and Zotac system builds just amazed how much power for the price - the comprable Intel Q8200/8300 is a good little CPU but, at this price, I would do AMD any day!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have been building Intel for about 4 years now, back to my roots - first build was an AMD, and now with these new Phenom II X4s! Cant beat the price performance ratios with intel - and the integrated Graphics on the AMD platform is MUCH better if thats important to you - is to most people and they dont even know it!

Pros: I upgraded from a phenom x4 2.3 to this and I notice quite a difference. For the price you get a very durable, fast, and all around excellent cpu that's both great for high end gaming and general computer applications. This is a must buy for budget buyers that want to build a high-end pc.

Cons: Ran a little hot on stock cooler.

Other Thoughts: I'm still giving this 5 eggs despite the posted con because these days you really don't get to big in sticking with stock coolers. I bought a coolermaster 120 mm fan heatsink for this and it runs fantastic.

Rating + 5 Great Upgrade

Pros: Works in really old AM2 boards (2007 asus m2a-vm hdmi), even though it shows up as 'unsupported amd' in bios
Compared to my athlon x2 4850e, synthetic benchmarks show on avg 3x increase.

Games show anywhere from 50% to 100% increase.

In the past it took upgrading your cpu, motherboard, and ram to get this kind of increase.

Cons: Runs on the hot side with the stock cooler (48C idle 57C load, while 62C is max safe temp).
Stock cooler also gets very loud at 6500rpm (which it will hit unless I leave my case fans on at 100%).
Raised my case temps significantly despite having good case airflow (to be expected going from a 45w to a 125w cpu).

Other Thoughts: I've got a OCZ gladiator max on the way, highly suggest getting an aftermarket cooler for this, but if you buy this cpu w/o a cooler, it isn't much cheaper at all.

Rating + 5 Update

Pros: After a little over a week to tweak I have to add to my review. This thing OCs like a champ, I'm able to to run the cpu at 3300mhz w/2ghz ht and 222mhz fsb. But my video card doesn't agree as well, I lost a little performace on F@H when the pcix bus was raised only 38mhz.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I stated before that the cpu runs warm and I now have to retract that statement. after a few calculations I have to say my old x2 5200 had a mis-calibrated temp sensor, there is no way it was running cooler than ambient temps on air.
Althouh I have lapped/polished my cpu cooler and reduced the max temps of the cpu from 50c to 46-47c but no change to idle or moderate usage temps

Bottom line, This thing is fast even not oced and reduced mpeg encoding time by more than half of that taken by my old x2-5200, and the pc is still useable when encoding unlike the 5200.

Rating + 5 Fast!

Pros: Totally smokes my Athlon 2. Easy upgrade process. Cheaper than buying a new PC.

Cons: Some minor software conflicts have popped up, mainly with my graphics card, which took some time to figure out. Runs quite a bit hotter than my old Athlon 2, but that's understandable. Runs fantastic with Ubuntu 9.10. Wish I wasn't still stuck with Windows.

Other Thoughts: Confused about the whole AM2+ vs. AM3. Not sure if there is any benefit to one over the other. My MB apparently supports both according to the website, but not according to the manual, so I played it safe. Upgrading the graphics card next. Vague answers online regarding ganged vs. unganged ram mode, which didn't apply to old CPU.

Pros: Fast Cheap quad core with 6mb L3 cache. Runs great on my old am2 (not am2+) m2n32. No problems just slipped right on in and booted up. Running at 3.4 ghz with stock voltage.

Cons: Runs a little warm at 3.4ghz but who's complaining, it's over clocked!

Other Thoughts: If you're running an m2n32 sli board, this will work. Though I'm not sure about the am3 chips

Rating + 5 Very pleased!

Pros: Excellent bang for your buck, costs less than my previous CPU (E8500) and also outperforms it at the same time. Since it's AM2+ I didn't have to bother upgrading my mobo or RAM. That's another advantage of AMD based systems, the sockets don't change much at all unlike Intel's. Runs relatively cool too for what it is, 125W, 4 cores... idles around 41C under a Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer heatsink with 120mm fan. Combined with my 4GB DDR2, WD VelociRaptor and GTX295, it ran ArmA II at full settings without hiccups. Looked beautiful...

Cons: It didn't install itself... :D

Other Thoughts: If you're thinking about purchasing i7 or the likes, but have a limited budget (like most of us do) then GET THIS! The performance difference compared with the price differences really make this the smarter choice. Hell this CPU outperforms some of the low-mid range Core 2 Quads with ease... and you will barely notice the difference when comparing against i7s... this new generation of CPUs really make AMD stand out again

Rating + 5 Great for AM2+ platform

Pros: Faster than my old phenom I x4 1.8ghz. Huge improvement in graphics department. Black Ed.

Cons: am2+ socket, not am3, 125w. Mobo bios dont like it sometimes ---not its fault, cheap mobo design ;)

Other Thoughts: It improved everything across the board. Shame as it’s not an am3 socket 939 to take advantage of ddr3 and low pwr (am3 chips are compatible w/ am2+ mobo, am2+ chips won’t work w/ am3 mobo). I sold the free printer and I ended up spending a little over $100. That’s a steal for a 3.0 quad core, plus it’s the black ed, unfortunately no oc in my current setup (oem machine, sigh). This processor and buy are so fantastic (get it w/ free printer and find someone to sell it to!) that I decided to build my own rig using wc to take advantage of oc. Keep seeing it would do 3.5 ghz using air cool and 4.0+ using water (crazy!!!). Thanks to Newegg for the awsome deal!

Pros: If you want to play Fallout 3 while running multiple VMWare Virtual Machines in AMD-V Rapid Virtualization Indexing mode without lag then do yourself a favor and buy this processor.

It's extremely versatile and has ripped through everything I've thrown at it @ stock speeds (3.00Ghz).

Pros: This item moves fast with my 2GB RAM system. I had to replace my motherboard, so I basically upgraded my whole system.

This is a AMD system, so that alone beats the rest. Sad that AMD has gone out of Business, but to me they will always be the best!!

Cons: I haven't really pressed the Processor to the limit, so no CONS as of yet!!

Rating + 5 Happy with it

Pros: Fast...no problems at all when multitasking, no heat issues whatsoever, runs nice and cool, idles around 23c, under load gets up to around 38c...not overclocking (no need to) used good paste and stock hsf in well ventilated case, two 120mm fans and 1 80mm fan. This should do fine for me for years (not a gamer).

Cons: None....runs extremely well

Other Thoughts: I was concerned about heat issues prior to buying...not anymore...I run this machine quite a bit both day and night, running multiple programs at once, just rocks on nice and cool....I would recommend the 940 to anyone.

Rating + 5 Updated Review

Pros: Fast. Eliminated Video bottlenecks. Runs cool. Handles anything. Inexpensive- price value to Int** is HUGE for darn near the same performance. Runs cool on stock, stupid cool on aftermarket. Overclocks with stock cooler and can easily boost to 3.6 with aftermarket.

Cons: 11 months and no cons yet. : )

Other Thoughts: Built 2 boxes with this processor.
1. Asus M3Twhatever
275 GTX
4 Gigs DDR2 1066
Velociraptor H 300gigs
Zalman 9900
Blue Ray + DVD drive
Corsair 750

2. ASUS M4whatever
4 Gigs Gskill ddr2 800
9800 GTX
Stock cooling.
Raidmax 730
Blue ray super drive.

Both in Antec 900 cases- the Zalman runs 24C idle and 36C full and the stock runs 31C idle and 43C full. The first benchmarks at 16300 and the second at 14800 on 3DMark 06 at stock settings. Can game at max resolution on pretty much anything.

Rating + 5 Great CPU but a lil warm

Pros: This thing is blazing fast compared to the x2 5200 I upgraded from. I played with some auto OC features on my mobo but haven't really done any OCing yet. Windows 7 64bit rates it at 7.3 and passmark gives it a 3631.9/4000 overall. At current prices I'd buy a 955 though.

Cons: It runs a little hotter than my 5200 did. My 5200 idled at 21c and under load hit 35c with an OCZ Vanquisher @ 72F ambient. With the same cooler and new thermal compound the 940 Idles at 32c and is 41c under load, after reading a few forums and AMD's website this is normal and well within safe operating specs. I guess it's not a con if it's normal but I'm going to upgrade my cooler, I preffer it to run a little cooler.

Other Thoughts: In my opinion it whoops it's competitors when it comes to processes per dollar.

Rating + 5 Insanely fast CPU for a great price

Pros: So fast that OCing really wouldn't be needed, but it is still a VERY OCable CPU. I was about to hit 3.4ghz without having to change the voltages, and it's even faster than before! Idles at about 35c-38c on a Zalman fan and heatsink, and only hits 40c-43c on load. This is a very nice CPU to have if you're still on AM2+

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: You should REALLY look into a 3rd party cooler if you're going to OC, that's something that shouldn't even have to be said.

Also, here are my specs
This CPU
Asus Crosshair II motherboard
Asus 260gtx
4gb OCZ DDR2 800 RAM
850w power supply

Rating + 5 Im in LOVE

Pros: Im in love with this CPU, it can multi task a lot, and just keeps on asking for more. Im running windows 7 and everything is just so smooth, and no lag or anything. I would def recommend this CPU, seems like the best bang for the buck. At first I was going to get the triple 3ghz black edition but I shelled a little more money and got something even better :-)

Cons: The fan it comes with is a little noisy, and I bought the cpu before they had the free printer only by a week :*(

Rating + 5 I regret every going with Intel

Pros: Great performance. Price. In the end, isn't it really all about bang for you buck? I mean, if money were no object, we would all be buying Macs. Runs very solidly under heavy loads. Temps with stock cooler aren't great, but they tend to plateau at a reasonable level.

Cons: Stock cooler is nothing to write home about.

Other Thoughts: I'd built with AMD for a while, but then decided to jump to Intel for a build. That Intel machine was the most expensive, and yet the worst performing machine I've every built. This processor is far superior, yet wasn't much more $$ than the Core-2-Duo I had. I think I'll be sticking with AMD for a while

Pros: AMD's AM2 flagship. More than I probably need for a processor but I still overclocked it to 3600MHz (1.44 volts) with NB at 2400MHz(1.35volts). Working on lowering both volts for lower temps and efficiency.

Cons: None.

Rating + 3 I really WANT to like this CPU...

Pros: Quad-Core, unlocked multiplier, inexpensive, drop-in upgrade

Cons: Runs hot, extremely hot, at stock speeds, even with a large aftermarket heatsink. I dismounted and reinstalled, reapplying Arctic Silver and it's still running too hot. Same heatsink kept an X2 5000+ @3.4GHz below 25*C at idle and below 40*C at 100%; this CPU is running 42*C idle and tops 70*C at 100%. Currently undervolting and strongly considering RMA'ing it.

Other Thoughts: Wishing RMA process wasn't a P.I.T.A.

Pros: freaking awesome price with best performance per dolar ratio in a processor currently. completely unlocked multiplier ( up and down ) for the ultimate in flexibilities while overclocking or even underclocking( low power consumption setups).

Cons: runs hot even at stock specs. runs cooler than previous generation but still runs hot.

Other Thoughts: get a upgraded HSF even for stock speeds. if you plan to overclock at all then a aftermarket HSF is a must. use cool and quiet if you only plan on lightly using this processor.

Pros: Maxed out my gigabyte 790x motherboard w/the highest CPU I can get for AM2+ board. Not a huge performance boost from the 2.5ghz quad CPU I was using before; but noticeable improvement none the less.

Why pay twice as much for the same performance as competing CPUs? Yeah, doesn't make sense to me either.

Cons: so far, no errors or other problems.

Other Thoughts: Thanks AMD & Newegg.com. Getting more bang for my buck is easier to do with AMD & Newegg's help. WTG!

Competition is good for us (the consumer) and the market. I'm not paying twice as much just to have an "Intel Inside" sticker on my case.

Pros: Great value for a quad core black edition processor.
6mb of L3 cache makes a difference.
AM2+ socket if you have an older AMD mobo but still want a quad core phenom 2 processor.
The processor comes with a stock heatsink and paste already applied. Installation was a sinch. Veary easy to overclock and stable. Lives up to it's specs. Puts AMD in competition with Intel. It runs 64bit win7 ultimate.

Cons: So far this processor has had no problems. The stock heat sink could be designed a little better, but hey if you plan on OCing you would buy a better heat sink right away.

Pros: Works well. Fast compared to my old Pentium D. Good middle of the road/budget quad core. Runs everything I need just fine.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought this as part of motherboard combo. Good deal for what it was. Not comparable to an i7 but really, who needs one of those at twice the price ? I've had computers since the mid 80's and learned the hard way never to buy anything on the cutting edge. Just buy something middle of the road today and replace it entirely in 3 or 4 years. That's much more cost efective.

Pros: My first review for newegg... excellent response, got it in three days, shipped from east coast, im guessing a second warehouse for them.

Cons: Have heard much about the packaging being horrible, and here is my response. I got a retail processor, (no moving parts to worry about)and packaged by the manufacturer, and packaged by newegg in a second shipping box. 5 out of 6 sides were completely safe with shipping noodles. But the side of the box that you would open, had absolutely no packaging protection whatsoever! I am building a system piece by piece, and still have to get the hard drive, and OS, and when I do(tomorrow) I will know the outcome of if everything I decided to purchase, actually works. If there is a problem with this processor due to shipping, you will for surely here back from me. Also, I am not ordering a hard drive from new egg because of reviews stating about them being subject to a 6 foot drop! I spoke with the person at UPS and he never heard of such a thing. Others say to send it Fed Ex, but UPS said they have no such thing as a 6 foot drop. Who knows? But I will not risk it for my hdd peace of mind!

Other Thoughts: Love new egg! Just nervous about ordering certain things like something that will store your valuables(hdd)! There is no room for error here!!! MUST BE PACKAGED RIGHT! MUST BE SAFE! MUST BE HANDLED CORRECTLY! No matter OEM or Retail, shouldn't matter!!!

Pros: The price keeps going up and down but i got this for a cool 150 bones. For that, the price for the performance simply can't be beat. Have not tried OC'ing just yet but its running everything that i throw at it like a champ. Blows my old Phenom X3 8650 out of the water. Comes with a beast of a heatsink of its own but i used an after market HSF i already had.

Cons: Runs about 10C hotter than the previously mentioned chip. Right around 40C so not concerned at all.

Other Thoughts: As i said before, for AM2+ users it just dont get better than this for the money. Sure you could get a 955 or 965 but all indications point to this chip easily OC'ing to the same clicks of those 2 chips. Only reason i would recommend them over this one is future proofing.

Pros: Good price

Cons: I have the Asus M4A785TD-V Evo motherboard and this chip has a Memory controller issue. (One short beep, two normal beeps) Got off with tech support and confirmed it was the CPU. Also for some strange reason, shipping took longer than usual. I've never receive a package late from Newegg so I don't know if it was the product or newegg.

Other Thoughts: Check Motherboard compatibilities for Specific CPU models even if it claims to be compatible with a whole brand. I've tested two AMD Phenom II 940 on this motherboard and both don't work but the AMD 810 works perfectly fine.

Rating + 5 A Good Alternative to Intel's E-8x00 Series

Pros: Fast and capable! I have owned this since May 2009 (about 6 1/2 months) and still, this is all the processing power one really needs. I have had no problems with it at all.

Initially, I was shocked at how fast it was. Everything in the operating system was responsive and applications loaded super-quick. It has since slowed down a little (see cons -- I think it's just Windows).

I mainly use this system web browsing, programming, audio encoding, and photo editing. I'm not much of a gamer, but I have run Fallout 3 a little bit and it ran nicely.

If I were to build another system, I would definitely consider buying this processor again.

Cons: Runs a little hot under full load in my system (40-50 deg C using XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 CPU cooler). I never tried the stock CPU cooler, so I can't compare. However, it hasn't fried itself yet and idle temps usually stay between 32-38 deg C which seems ok.

I have noticed a slowdown recently, but I think it's just that classic Windows grinding bloat. (Win7 RC, btw)

Other Thoughts: I had my eyes set on Intel's E8500 for MONTHS -- I tend to research things to death. When I came across this, I was quickly convinced it'd be a better buy. It was fairly new but all of the performance reviews looked very positive, especially for tasks I commonly do, like audio encoding and number-crunching. It has been a very capable alternative to the aging E8500.

Don't bother more expensive processors (ie Intel i7 series), you'll just be wasting your money. This is a very capable workhorse of a processor.

Other Thoughts: Great buy it already!

Rating + 5 Wow...

Pros: Fast as all get out -- particularly compared with the other options for my motherboard (M2N-SLI, which officially doesn't support this CPU, but seems to work just great). While my motherboard can't take full advantage of the CPU, the X4 940 runs circles around its predecessor (X2 5200). Definitely worth every penny!

Cons: Runs a bit hot, so I ended up dropping another $30 on an aftermarket heatsink and fan (XIGMATEK HDT-S1283), which brought the temps right down.

Rating + 5 Better than intel

Pros: Compared to the intel i7 quad core processor this processor is way better and has more features. I can run wow at max settings and it does not bog down at all.

Cons: I wish that it consumed less power. its running at 125 watts.

Other Thoughts: amd v. intel......I would definitly choose amd by far. the price is no match. my computer that I built is using all amd products.

Rating + 5 Awsome CPU

Pros: Price is great. Runs cool. Over clocks great. Can not complain about 44c @ 3.7 ghz under full load for hours.

Cons: Does not benchmark as high as intel cpu's. Honestly using intel and AMD I can't see any cons with this cpu. Synthetics could be higher real time seems to do better than what the synthetics are telling ya.

Other Thoughts: Runs great over clocks very well. Keeps par levels with my friends q9650 @ 4ghz with mine clocked @ 3.7ghz. Don't see why there is any complaints about phenom 2 its better than the first phenom by leagues better than core 2 duo and less than I7. It also costs less than any of the I7 / I5 line up and why buy c2d with the choice of phenom 2 are I7/I5. I got high end mobo Asus m4a79 Deluxe cost me the price of the bargain buy intel mobos with all of the same options and quality of a high end intel mobo that would cost 3 times the price. Is a great product nothing like the day of c2d over x2. This is a whole new world of architecture. Honestly I am very impressed a small company like AMD can compete with such a corporate giant like Intel. Intel must spend more on advertising in 2008 for the C2D advertisements than AMD has been able to spend on research and development for years. I would love to see them have the budget of Intel wow would we see an amazing product.

Rating + 5 Excellent

Pros: -Awesome CPU for any gamer on a budget, provides great frame rates on just about any game paired with an HD4890

-It's a Black Edition

-Runs stable @3.5GHz on stock voltage

-Cut 1080p video rendering times by at least 1/5 compared to an Athlon 64 x2 6400+

Cons: -Runs a little bit hot (stock everything), but that's standard with most AMD CPU's and nothing a little Arctic Silver 5 can't fix.

-Isn't AM3, but I also don't feel like buying a new mobo and RAM to support the DDR3 architecture, so no eggs docked

Other Thoughts: Don't even bother with the stock cooler, just get an aftermarket one. Definitely a great bang for the buck.

Rating + 5 good stuff

Pros: VERY fast - lots of bang for your buck - running this with the stock heatsink and fan, temps about 36 degrees - be sure to have good case fans that can push the hot air out of the case ( COOLER MASTER SAF-B82-E1 80mm Case Fan )

Cons: None so far, works good and does a good job

Rating + 5 PHENOM 940

Pros: Fast much? its screaming, amazing for gaming overclocks easily with overdrive running dual boot with vista and 7 ultimate you can tell the difference, vista is just slow period but combine 7 and this cpu and you never see lag in anything normally computing it keep it at stock 3.0 but when gaming (crysis modern warfare 2) i OC to 3.6 want to compare this cpu to any vehicle? try a Ferrari!

Cons: hmm..none of this cpu just wish my mobo would let me OC it more..i know i can make it to 4.0 especailly with my cooling setup see other thaughts

Other Thoughts: got this beast chilled with the coolermaster hyper 212+ with two scythe slipstreams ( the 110 cfm variants) and its freezing never goes past 100F when on load..then again..this cpu is so good unless im testing stability for an OC i never see it fully maxed out lol

Rating + 5 Works great

Pros: Stays cool with fan/hs from AMD (30 on idle 41 is the highest temp I have seen yet). Gets a rating of 7.1 on windows 7 ultimate x64.

Cons: its not a 3.4.

Other Thoughts: Great price. People should not complain about heat when they are trying to OC to 3.4 and 3.8... There is a reason it goes the speed that you buy it at, If you are trying to push the limits dont complain when you burn it up.

Cons: I have come to realize that almost nothing I do requires anything more than a dual core. I should have bought a dual core and overclocked it.

Pros: This is one of the best CPUs around. I bought the black edition just in case I needed to overclock, but found out it works flawlessly and I haven't overclocked. It is still running at the stock 3.0GHz.

Cons: None whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent CPU for me because I do quite a bit of video production and this chip handles it like a pro.

Pros: Good processor

Cons: Took one egg away to the fan/heatsync. Its loud (buzzes) and seems cheap. I'm afraid to OC it.

Other Thoughts: Going to buy the Rosewill RCX-Z5 cooler. I should have done this from the start

Rating + 4 Bad start, great newegg fix

Pros: Bought with the ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe and compatible memory and all is great now. OC'ing to 3.4 GHZ on stock settings. Great for gaming with two 8800GTX 256s.

Cons: First one worked for 5 hours and then died. Sent it back via newegg's great RMA process and the new one's working great.

Other Thoughts: Great value.

Rating + 5 AMD Is Not Bad At All

Pros: Great CPU even if your building a new system and want to save some money over the DDR3 based AM3 or i7 systems. Thats what I did. Ya sure someone with an i7 or whatever is going to have better performace but its not that much of a considerable amout for me to really care. DDR2 builds are more prevalent and will still be around for years to come.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I have always had Intel CPUs in the past great company. I think from now on I will be considering AMD as my first choice when builing systems in the future. I really like the performance I get out of this CPU. AMD knows what there doing.

Rating + 5 great CPU for professional use

Pros: With the 790FX chipset and the OCZ AM2 Special memory this is simply the fastest cpu available to the general public for ultra high performance use. By that I mean Catia, Unigraphics NX, Solidworks, Autocad, Premiere, Phototshop not tiddle winks games like Crysis, Call of Duty, Unreal, or WOW. Games are written with 4k page files in mind. This is set up for 16k page files and 2048 entries per page. It can stay in page twice as long as most other processors available. Games don't take advantage of those capabilities. Good example of why AMD dominates the top 100 of the Top 500 list and very similar to the CPU's used on Kraken at the U of Tenn. #3 on Top 500.

Cons: Probably not the best gaming CPU where cpu speed counts more than good design.

Other Thoughts: There is no reason to use the AM3 motherboard or DDR3 with this cpu. They will not enhance performance.

Rating + 5 GREAT!

Pros: VERY FAST FOR AMD'S FIRST QUAD CORE WITH 3GHZ. COMES WITH PRETTY GOOD COOLER.

Cons: FOR SOME REASON IT SAYS THAT THE HYPER TRANSPORT IS 3600 MHZ AND THAT WOULD BE 1.8GHZ IN REAL TERMS. (BACK AND FORTH) MINE WHEN CLOCKED AT 3GHZ ONLY SAID 1600MHZ FOR FSB IN CPUZ AND AMD OVERDRIVE. WHEN I USED THE BIOSTAR AUTO OVER CLOCK IT WENT TO 1800. BUT IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AT THAT FOR DEFAULT. IDK.

Rating + 5 Works GREAT on Asus M2N32 Deluxe...

Pros: I wanted to let readers know that this works perfectly in my beloved old M2N32 SLI Deluxe mobo. There are more than a few posts about this in the last year, so I know there are some of us who just can't bear to part with this dinosaur:) yet. I can say that with the latest bios, 2209, the chip works flawlessly! The system recognizes and labels the chip properly, and I have it OC'd to 3.8 on liquid without a hiccup:) So, if you are one of us still squeezing life from a classic, jump on this, you will LOVE it! I hope this helps you out:)

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if I got this here or on the auction site which shall be nameless here, but I have posted over 100 other reviews here over the years if you doubt my veracity:)
