Rating + 5 Nice CPU

Pros: I bought one of these 8-08, It's a freak. Runs 255x12 @ Stock Vcore and I've gone 3310MHz with it. Proof at EOCF.
Mine has CAB1E stepping, 0633APMW.

Cons: Wish I would have bought more.

Other Thoughts: Yeah, 939 is a few steps behind the times, but so am I. You can build them for spare change, and have a ball with them.
I still play with socket A too.

Rating + 5 Great product

Pros: It works well in a Shuttle XPC. Faster than a 3800+ X2 acting single because of the faster clock rate at 2.4GHz. It seems if I had waited 3 more years, I can get really low price. :)

Cons: It uses same power grading as a x2 dual core. Otherwise it works whenever I needed.

Other Thoughts: My shuttle can use X2 core, but doesn't support dual core operation. Hence I backed down to a single core with 20% more clock rate though both are named as 3800+. It appears faster than the dual core acting single.

Rating + 5 Runs Fine

Pros: Runs fine. Cool. It works.

Cons: It's cheap and old.

Other Thoughts: My last processor was broken. It was the same socket, except 200 Mhz slower. This one actually seems to run a bit faster, as it should of course. My motherboard doesn't let me overclock, but I'm sure you could push it to 2.8 without trouble.

Rating + 4 AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice 2.4GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 89W Single-Core Processor - OEM

Pros: its a 939 socket
cheap
works ok for a single core cpu

Cons: In the day before dual core I though single cores were fast but dual core and quad cores have spoiled me. The single core seems slow but it gets the job done.

Other Thoughts: It is hard to find mb that are 939 socket now. I did found a couple but the price was to much. I can't believe it cost more than I first bought the board. Had to buy from a different comany because newegg doesn't have 939 mb. That company sucked it took over a week and a half to get the new board.

Rating + 5 Good Price, Good CPU

Pros: Upgraded 3 family member PCs at one time, all happened to be Socket 939. The price point was right on these CPUs and the performance increase was worth the money. Should be able to pull another year of use from the old Compaq and eMachine PCs. As always NewEgg treats me great. Shipped early and arrived in 2 days with 3 days shipping.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: It's still socket 939 and not dual core??? Still I didnt have to upgrade the mobo...

Pros: I needed a cheap socket 939 cpu replacement and this chip fulfills both those requirements. Cheap and socket 939.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: It's too bad AMD has changed their socket so frequently over the last few years.

Rating + 5 Slight upgrade, but worth it

Pros: I made a slight upgrade from the 3500+, but I'm glad I did. I can already notice a slight performance boost, but now I have a backup CPU just in case.

And it was CHEAP.

Cons: Pretty much the only socket 939 CPU available.

Not dual core

Rating + 5 Good choice

Pros: I changed out a 1.9gig (or a 2, dont remember ) with this unit and I noticed a performance increase that made the low price worth the purchase.

Cons: Only one available for this 939 socket system which is starting to show it's age.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to max out the memory to 4gig in this motherboard from 1gig and probably have a couple more years with this as a primary computer. ( NOT USED FOR GAMES )

Rating + 5 Budget Performance upgrade

Pros: Upgraded from 3200 "hammer" to this piece for minimal cash, especially after free shipping. Swap took less than 5 minutes, added in some Artic Silver with my previous heat sink and was on my way. Ran a few hours of burn-in with CPU-Stab and a few other tools and on my way. OC'd about 10% and it idles around 35 C and under our normal use it sits around 42-45C.

Cons: Slightly warmer than the 'hammer I removed but worth the performance gain.

Other Thoughts: This is my second OEM processor purchase from Newegg. Great experience, fast shipping and quality product keep me returning for more stuff. Newegg is all that it is cracked up to be. LOL

Rating + 5 Review after 2 years of use

Pros: Bought this over 2 years ago as an upgrade. Been running at 2.7 for over a year perfectly stable. Still could handle newer games at playable frames so i guess it doesn't bottleneck my video card that bad. If you have a 939 mobo lying around for the price its a great upgrade.

Cons: For what it is it's superb

Rating + 5 Used to be almost King

Pros: One of the fastest single core chips ever made. The 4000+ being only faster due to a larger L2 cache. Works perfectly. 939 is dead so it is amazing Newegg has any at all.

Cons: AMD dumped 939 for AM2 without good reason. There was and is still a market for them. No mobo's to support the CPU.

Other Thoughts: Still a great processor overall. It will not decode those movies like you would hope or do as many things at once, but for gaming you will not have complaints. I have this OC'd slightly to 2.64. I even have an old one of these that is missing a pin as it stuck to the heatsink when I was removing it and that processor still works. Maybe the only working 938 AMD chip in the world! Really great processor.

Pros: Installation was a snap - computer booted right up - no problems - had a 3500 before - I know, it was a small bump up, but now I have a spare.

Cons: It runs abit hotter that Sempron. if Upgraded from Sempron buy a heatsinks just in case!

Pros: Efficient and inexpensive. Has performed flawlessly so far. Best "bang for the buck" anywhere!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Arrived in great shape and runs like it should! Downgraded my system from a 4400+ Toledo so my girlfriend could use the PC, since she does basic computing and doesn't need the power of a dual-core powerhouse with 2mb L2 cache! This processor features excellent, highly adequate processing power for the price! Highly recommended!

Pros: Works. Didn't explode. No bent pins. Cheap.

Cons: Wasn't free, or a dual core. Only cpu available for 939.

Other Thoughts: The last piece needed to finish a PC I started building for myself over 2 years ago. Wish I'd bought my cpu much earlier in the build. Never would have thought 939 cpus would be so hard to get considering how long the 754s have stuck around. Go figure...

Pros: Awesome processor and runs a smooth as silk.
Upgraded from a Opteron 165 which I will keep as a backup since socket 939 cpus are so hard to find.
The upgrade went so smooth that I was done in about 15 minutes. BTW, make sure to use Artic Silver paste or ceramique. Delivery came in one day and was so well packaged that I had no bent pins.

Cons: None.....

Other Thoughts: Newegg rules!

Rating + 1 Nice CPU, if the pins were'nt bent

Pros: Great CPU, after straightening the pins

Cons: The bungholes in the shipping department at newegg packed it in a cheap, used padded envelope, which of course was crushed by the apes at UPS. The pins were pushed into the black foam, and about a dozen were bent. A hour with a mechanical pencil, and they are straight and it runs fine. Why didn't I RMA? The possibility of the next one being worse, and the shipping cost.

Other Thoughts: I guess the more you order from here, the less they feel like they have to care, as the hooks are set.

Rating + 5 I'm pleased

Pros: Mine runs cool with 100% utilization running Folding @ Home. Load at 36c, idles at 29-30c. Coolest running rig I have. :) For a single core, it's quite fast. F@H big WU's compete in 31-32 hours.

Cons: Dual core is the way to go now.

Other Thoughts: MSI K8N-SLI, 3G of Corsair Value Select, Nvidia 7300GS, Thermaltake Silent 939 CPU cooler, 500G WD SATA in a CoolerMaster Wavemaster case. Airflow with the CoolerMaster case is poor but this CPU doesn't reflect it in use.

Pros: Good starter processor, fast, efficient and easy to install. Great price too.

Cons: The heat is a downer, but i called tech support because my computer was reaching 116 degrees, but they said that was fine, it is tested for 130 or something crazy...but now runs between 84 and 96 degrees, thats the processor fan, and two exaust fans, one on top and one on bottom, still have to get a 120 mm for the back.

Other Thoughts: Great product, fast shipping, always go newegg, they know there stuff.

I got everything here at Newegg!

Pros: Works great, though I'm not pushing very hard. It's in my Mythbox with hardware encoding so it usually only runs at around 10%.

Cons: This little guy heated up to 60+ degrees upon startup. Removed processor and placed it back in, worked a little while longer. Repeated about half a dozen times. Now I have months of uptime without incident.

Rating + 5 for us amd lovers out there

Pros: great processor at a great price. have yet to be disappointed with amd, glad to see they're keeping with that trend.

Cons: as with a lot of the other people on here, this does run hot, so make sure you have a good way to keep it cooled down. personally i'm using a thermaltake volcano 11+ with 2 cooler master 80mm case fans(with purle leds that arae half out, but unfortunately i can't write a review for that)...

Other Thoughts: other than the heat issue i've no real problems with this processor. it was a processor i found out i didn't even need to buy at the time, but with the combo deal i got from new egg, i can't really complain either, cause i was going to upgrade it all.

Rating + 4 A bit hot..but good processor

Pros: Great processor, does run hot...but made that way. Good price, great company, and newegg backs it up, what more could you want?

Cons: Yes, this does run hot...at first it didnt. but then i got to a room that was hotter than the rest of the house, and the processor got up to 114 degrees, thats with m*z*lla open and maybe messenger. But to my astonishment i called AMD and they said that was normal, and it could go more than that! (like 10 degrees or so) I haven't had any problems with it, going from 800 MhZ P** to a 2.4 gig athlon is great... I did notice too that the sticker for the heatsink (thermal sticker?) after about say 7 months, i took off the processor when i called AMD a while back, and the thing was grey and chalky, dried out basically. Never seen that before, cause i have always owned dinosaurs..go figure? Buy it! its good.

Other Thoughts: 2.4 gig Venice athlon, MSI KN8 Neo4 F mobo, Corsair Value Ram (512) and some other stuff.. (getting Video card in two days!!) Thanks Newegg, I don't buy anwhere else!

Rating + 5 Works Great for gaming

Pros: Low cost, makes for an affordable gaming system. Lets face it, you don't need to have the biggest "stick" on the block to play. That analogy plays well with single core vs. dual core processors. It will be a few years before dual processors can utilized enough to make them worth it, about the life span of a computer anyways. A fast single core is all you need right now. I can not tell a difference between this processor and the 4000+ either.

Cons: Runs a little hot, make sure you use a good heat sink and fan, the Venice core is known for this. Its also a single core if you want to call that a con.

Rating + 3 Ok

Pros: AMD, the price is really good, it isn't horrible, and it still out performs single core Presshots in toe to toe results. Ironically this games better than an X2 and proves so in FPS comparisons on Doom 3, and Far Cry. I really don't think you can get much cheaper for very low entry gaming.

Cons: X2's blow this thing away, it's a 939, the old 3800+'s overclocked way better, single core, and it's really not impressive by today's standards. If you bought this now it would be like throwing money out the window, with AM2's of this selling for about the same price with future upgrades being very available.

Other Thoughts: Bought this retail for xx (xx with shipping) and thought it a good deal. It was an ok deal, but I realized later the Egg was selling OEM X2's for 15 bucks more. Should of just wen't straight to AM2, I advise doing the same since X2 4200+'s are cheap. Current rig; Biostar TForce SLI, 3800+, 2GB Kingston Vram, 2 WDJD800's, BFG 7600 GT, X-fi Xtreme Gamer, and some other gadgets. :P

Rating + 4 Good cheap chip

Pros: Very stable when combined with my Tforce 6100-939 mobo. Unfortunately my chip wasnt the greatest overclocker but it easily overclocks to 2.6, quite satisfied with performance.

Cons: If you overclock and are in this price range go for the 3700+ San Diego instead for bigger cache. You may want to consider dual core though as the market is gearing up for multi-threaded apps.

Other Thoughts: Served me great for a year. I was lucky enough to notice the OEM 4400+X2 939's as soon as they hit newegg. They sold out within hours. Looking forward to the upgrade.

Rating + 5 AMD 3800+

Pros: I'm been a AMD fan since the begin even b4 the T-birds and the K's which at the time were screaming fast This is my upgrade and Now runs games great and put with a SLi board and screaming cards WOOT WOOT hop on board. You can afford it!

Cons: It is the lower end of AMD technology but that is hardly a con and now that I make more money I'm going to invest more cash in AM2 socket board/ processors to truely take advantage of the AMD's finest. Benchmarks are great but not the best of course that reflexz the price. Haven't overclocked it but I might have to squeeze some more Juice. If you can afford it buy Dual core AM2's and unleash supreme 2 crush the rest.

Other Thoughts: This isn't top of the line processor but the effect is great so far. AMD knows what they are doing. Refer at your favorite seach engine and type "AMD vs. Intxl" and get the scoop. Don't waste your cash on Intel, Price per Bang4yourbuck.
Research before you jump.

Rating + 4 Good OC unit

Pros: Good cheap upgrade if you're running a slower A64. Great for a basic home-build system. Decent overclocker.

Cons: Single core will be a drag soon in a hardcore machine.

Other Thoughts: The one I received was good for stable 2.75GHz on water cooling as a game chip. I retired it to my MMPC where it's 2.4 stock clock is more than enough and AMD cool-and-quiet can keep the energy use down.
