Pros: This a great CPU. When equipped with a good graphics card, it can run most recent games like "Supreme Commander" and "Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault".
Cons: It can't run all applications on high setting but you can run them on medium to low settings so that you can actually play the game if you want to

for the money
Pros: Great buy! I decided to finally make a AMD system to replace my ancient Intel 2.66 ghz P4......and wow, the performance boost on WOW and Half-life2 is incredible; upgraded my rig with Msi N9AG NEO2 and 2 gigs of Mushkin Mem and a cheap 500 watt power supply, with a 1950xt vid card for under 600 dollars with tax and shipping included! Runs cool even when playing DVD movies and when online on WOW...I am going to try overclocking next week!
Cons: Not as powerfull as the high end 2core processors....but big deal it runs all the programs I want ran perfectly!
Other Thoughts: none

Great Price/Performance Ratio
Pros: Works great even when Multi-tasking. Super Great product - you'll be surprised.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: This A64 3800+CPU works better than another system I setup with a 3600+ X2. The X2 system has more memory than the A64 system but still the A64 works fantastic.

Cheap and powerful
Pros: This is a reasonably priced CPU, and still has decent power to run a computer. Runs cool depending on room temp.
Cons: If your place is hot the CPU will run hot
Other Thoughts: Runs fast with WINXP PRO 64-bit. Great AMD product.

OUTSTANDING
Pros: This CPU in my opinion is the best CPU outside of dual cores. Highly overclockable, and paired with the right hardware, can do pretty much everything.
Cons: 512 L2, no biggie. It's cheap.
Other Thoughts: I have this OCed to 3.00GHz@250x12. This has been running very stable for about a month, at 40C with stock cooling!!! AMD, keep up the good work.

Pros: Definitely better than the AMD 1.8ghz in my old computer. Menus seem more responsive, CPU intensive things like converting movies go faster.
Cons: None so far. Didn't come with l33t Arctic Cooling.

The Processor that could
Pros: Execellent Processor, The person that talking bout not running the ram should to know that only AM2 dual cores only run ddr 800mhz (pc6400)... this only runs 533mhz or 667.
Cons: If you need a true gaming machine or video encoding or full screen high resolution(1280x1024) HD video playback or any heavy processing tasks get a dual core..
Other Thoughts: GREAT PROCESSOR!!!, no cons.. im not using it for those tasks above but i did throw them at it and it was taking them on at 90-100% cpu usage (hehe). for the task that it can handle everything else than those mentioned above its grrrrrreat.

AM2 Starter
Pros: It runs cool with the stock fan/heatsink, its fast, the low price. I saw a large improvement with this over an AMD 939 2.0 and DDR memory.
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: This is a cheap way into the tech of the future. The 939 socket is dead. Be ready for the great things to come from AMD with this processor.

Very Capable, Nice price
Pros: Very capable processor, can handle most tasks thrown at it, not a dual core, but it holds its own. runs fairly cool, 40 Celsus with stock fan, for video encoding and gaming need a dual core though.
Cons: none,
Other Thoughts: had to go with the 2.4GHZ, otherwise ur not getting full performance off the AM2socket, spend the extra 10-30 bucks an get this one instead of the lower speeds.

Good Processor
Pros: Good design - cool - I mean stays cool even at max usage. Also speed seems like almost double of Athlon 3000+ (32 bit); Windows boots in about half the time, but then it could be XP64 that also helps, and SATA 3 GBs.
Cons: Nothing big, except the cooling fan seems a little flimsy, like most Athlon original fans. And the memory is limited to 667MHz, even though I put in PC6400.
Other Thoughts: Really wanted the 5400, but too pricy for the moment - may be a year down the line, and that will also realize the full potential of PC6400 memory.

Cons: None that I have encountered yet.

great and cheap cpu
Pros: extremely good, does everything without a hitch, strong video aptittude, can encode better with this one than with the previous 3400
Cons: it is not a dual core cpu, and it only has 512 cache... not too bad unless you plan on using adobe after fx... get a 4600+
Other Thoughts: although I enjoy using this cpu, others may want to overclock, I got bad news for you, this baby gets hot pretty quick in OC settings, so unless u got some water cooling?

Cons: i dont know yet
Other Thoughts: IF it does it will be MUCH better than what im running Spempron 3400 with 1 gig of ram and a ati X1300pro 256 meg vid card

This Processor rocks!
Pros: this processor is awesome it is the best single core processor out their (including intel). Since most programs are not dual-core ready this is just as or even faster than a dual-core.
Cons: no. except the stock heat sink is extremely hard to remove.
Other Thoughts: AMD 3800+ AM2, 4GB of Corsair DDR-800, 160GB Raid 0 Hard Drives, ands last but not least Quad-SLI eVGA 7950GX2

heat problem
Pros: Overall good cpu, high performance and decent price
Cons: Had a heating problem with it. After alot of testing, switching out parts, and adding fans to the case I still had a cpu heating issue which im now assuming is some kind of heat sensor problem or conflict with the motherboard I bought. I used a Asus M2N4-SLI motherboard with it. While running larger programs I was hitting temperatures of 70 degrees C.

Great
Pros: Blazing fast compared to what i used to have (socket A Athlon XP 1400+....ANCIENT) I used my gigabyte easy tune and OC'ed to 2.5 just messing around and cpu temp stayed at 16 degrees C, if u can believe it would idle at that, my Aspire X-Navigator case keeps things chilly in there :) and thats on the stock heatsink and fan
Cons: price drop a day after i ordered it, only a few bucks bot id say its worth more than what its priced at now!
Other Thoughts: u cant go wrong with AMD, this processor rocks, so get it!

Great until quad core
Pros: OCed to 2.92GHz, L1 cache twice as big as even a core 2 duo, all around fast and easy install
Cons: not that I've found
Other Thoughts: using this to hold me over until AMD releases quad core Arcturas on the AM2 platform

Orleans=awesome
Pros: DDR2 support built-in Nice for a single-core easy installation
Cons: stock cooler isn't exactly perfect
Other Thoughts: I like it, it's reliable, runs at 40C idle out of the box with stock cooling, it's speedy, and an improvement over its predecessor.

Quiet Giant
Pros: Installation is a snap. AMD has done a great job with the straps for the heatsink, very easy to put on. The CPU is so fast and yet so quiet.
Cons: Haven't found one yet.
Other Thoughts: Hard to go wrong with this CPU. I'm running it with XPPro-SP2 32 bit and not a hitch.

FX-57 for $100
Pros: Overclocked to 2.8ghz. Thats the speed of a fx-57. Idles at about 35C and 50C load with stock cooling.
Cons: 512kb L2 catch. Not a big deal.

blazin'
Pros: fast (example: this processor = ferrari... when compared to my old p4 = short yellow bus), price, runs cool
Cons: not dual core
Other Thoughts: slapped this onto an asus mobo and now i can't be happier. love the fact that i can upgrade easily to x2 or fx later... but, imo, this processor offers the best price/performance currently.

A Rock Solid Performer
Pros: Performs great. Runs incredibly cool. Enabled Q-Fan on ASUS MB and the stock CPU fan slowed to 600 rpm under no load (temp 25C). Under burn-in test never went above 42C and fan never exceeded 1500 rpm (full speed with Q-fan disabled is ~3000 rpm). Performed bench tests very well. Immediately overclocked at 2520 MHz with no issue.
Cons: Cannot run multi threads like a dual core or HT processor (of course, this is by design).
Other Thoughts: I wish I had a better MB to push the overclock further, all I can do is change the core freq but my max multiplier is 12X.

AMD builds another nice processor
Pros: It's typical AMD, it's fast, stable and gets the job done.
Cons: I'm going to upgrade to a dual core, I wasn't sure I'd want or need it, but I'll be switching soon.
Other Thoughts: AMD has been building great processors for a long time and I've built a bunch of AMD equipped machines over the years and every one has done a great job for me.

Satisfying
Pros: I'm not an over-the-top hardware person. I just needed a solid system to run my graphics programs (Photoshop, 3DS Max, etc.) for school. I am quite happy with the performance of this processor. I haven't benchmarked it, since that's not my thing, but upgrading from a 2Ghz P4 to a 64-bit proc was a good jump. Overall my computer is very responsive and the operations are pleasingly fast.
Cons: None that I can determine.

great cpu
Pros: Great overclocker. Runs at 41C under full load at 2.8ghz with standard cooling.
Cons: now amd is going to come out with socket am3

Best bang 4 the buck
Pros: rock solid @ 2.88 GHz and only gets up to 40 degrees under 100% load with the provided heatsink.
Cons: had to bump up the vcore to 1.5875 from the rated 1.4. even at 1.6025 still has minor stability issues at 3.0 GHz precluding use at that frequency
Other Thoughts: All said and done---best bang for your buck

Great CPU
Pros: This processor form the AM2 line is great. It's handled everything I've thrown at it with ease. I find this pretty exceptional, considering I sometimes use multiple apps at once, and this a single-core CPU. I recommend this to anyone, especially since the price has gone down so much (unfortunately SINCE I bought it).
Cons: It's only got 512kb of L2 Cache, but no big deal.
Other Thoughts: I slapped on a Zalman 9500 and some Arctic Silver 5 right when I got it. It dropped temps about 5° idle and 4° at full load. AND I overclocked it safely to 2.74 Ghz. This thing FLYS!

VERY FAST
Pros: Runs extremely fast w/ddr2 800. Im used to my old 1.7ghz celeron. LOL WHAT A JOKE! This is the fastest single-core AM2 proc.
Cons: none whatsoever
Other Thoughts: System: Coolermaster Centurion 5, NForce 550 AM2, 2 Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800, Sapphire x1800XT 256, WD Raptor 37 Gb, AMD Athlon 64 3800+ AM2, 520W Aspire PSU.

Nice placeholder
Pros: Price/Performace award winner for the AM2 slot IMO. This price and I got 2.6 with stock cooler out of the box and it doesn't break a sweat at that. 31 idle 43 load. I'm waiting for a good cooler to push it.
Cons: 512 cache, single core
Other Thoughts: AMD needs a resonably priced processor with 1meg of cache in AM2. It's hard to go AM2 with those cheap san diegos staring at me over in the 939 pile. DDR2 won out though.

Old news
Pros: Its fast compared to my old P4. cool n' quit is great. It is a socket AM2
Cons: out dataed less then a month after is came out. single core
Other Thoughts: Got this as a place holder untill the new K8L's come out(quad core, suppose to come out June/July next year). Riht now is a hard time to be an AMD user since Intels chips are doing some much better. The lower price maybe ok since you can replace this chip with the new AMDs that come out. I got this chip because I was looking to replace it in the future, just hope that what i replace it with is better then what intel has out at that time.

Performs Very Well
Pros: I got this CPU because the bigger dual cores were not out yet, but now I have had some time with it and I have oc'ed it to 2.808Ghz stable under aircooling.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: AMD needs to give the AM2 a 1mb cache single core at a reasonable price.

Superb
Pros: Amazing Performance, Amazing Price.
Cons: UPS took twice as long as they said... but still its the best CPU for the money
Other Thoughts: Well, one of the scariest things I have ever done was to attach this CPU's Heatsink. It requires entirely way to much pressure in my opinion.

The Bang For The Buck...
Pros: As far as single cores go, there is an outstanding price to performance ratio on this CPU. Runs fairly cool in respect to overclocks and the stock heatsink will take you up to about 2.65 and still run acceptable temps under load. Excellent overclocker, hardy mem controller. No problems reaching a stable 2.9 GHz on a water setup @ 1.575 volts with idle temps running 27c and load running 43c. This is well worth your money if you are looking for a cheap holdover until the 65nm cores are available, or if you are looking for a cheap way to feel out the new platform.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: If you are thinking of upgrading to AM2 don’t hesitate. Pair this CPU up with some high quality DDR2 1000 or 1066 and you will see a large improvement in memory bandwidth and system responsiveness. Don't be surprised if you hit memory benchmarks that blow away (and I mean blow away by about 38 %) your winbond DDR at its highest volts and tightest timings.

Fast CPU
Pros: This CPU is Extremely Fast for This Price. Dollar for Dollar you be tickled to death for the performance per price.
Cons: was not able to overclock much, but that was due to the motherboard i had. Wish i would have chose a different MB to see what i could have got this up to. Was Very Fast just at stock speed.

Great Placeholder for AM2
Pros: Fast, Stays Cool, Reliable, CHEAP! Even with Dual Core CPU's out there; this thing can hold it's own! I easily whipped the floor against a P4 3.8 ghz. I bought this as a placeholder for the upcoming 65nm AMD's but along the way I fell in love with this!
Cons: only a handful of aftermarket Heatsinks and Fans available, but the Stock Heatsink and Fan are more than adequate. If you use an aftermarket fan, you void the warranty.
Other Thoughts: Even with Conroe (Core 2) available, there's really no reason not to buy this, unless you really need a dual core. But then again, that's what the 3800+ X2 is for.

Pros: It was supper fast when it worked! It crapped out on me last weekend. It just would not turn on. Changed the power supply on another computer worked! I get got nothing when pressing the power button so I am getting a replacement motherboard as I type ;). I hope everthing goes well...
Cons: They got to stop making duds lol

Fast
Pros: Fast,inexpensive,and runs cool.
Cons: Stock cooler could be better.
Other Thoughts: I had a 2.8p4 and was going to move up to a 3.2, but for around the same money I sold the old one and bought this with the asus sli deluxe mb. I wanted an x2, but dont do much multitasking to justify paying more. This will hold you over until the dual cores drop. Am23800,asus sli d mb, 2gigs patriot ddr2(800),evga 7600gt 256,and sata2 250 hd 16meg. And I am enjoying lots of eye candy I was missing before.

Wowzers!
Pros: This processor can't be beat for the money. It runs super cool, 28 C idle and 36 C at load. I am extremly happy with this processor. I will definetly hold me over for awhile till the prices of dual core come down.
Cons: The heatsink / fan assembly is a bear to install. You have to use all your force to pull the plastic lever over to the locked position. You will think its going to break, but just huncker down and give it all you got. Your fingers will feel like hamburger meat when you are done.
Other Thoughts: Using this processor with a ASUS M2N-E and 2 x 512 corsair 800 XMS2 and it runs beautifully. No problems at all.

Incredible for gaming!
Pros: Price! Is more than powerful enough for games, as they don't take advantage of dualcore yet. No problems whatsoever. My motherboard isn't a good OC'er so I don't know how far it will go, but from what I've heard you can get it blazing fast.
Cons: None!
Other Thoughts: Idles about 10C above ambient room temp, 18C at load above ambient room temp with my Scythe Mine.

Pros: O/Cs pretty well on stock cooling. I got to 2.7GHz on stock but didn't try any further i can probably get to 1.85 or 1.9 on aftermarket cooling. The processor is super fast with out O/Cing...but why not oc it doesn't harm anyone. I reccomend you buy this processor it's cheap and good way to go with the AM2 platform.
Cons: I guess the prices are supposed to drop after the release of Conroe but i haven't seen any price drops.

Is it being read wrong?
Pros: Well good thing is it's SO MUCH FASTER THAN MY P4 :D Though this is an upgrade from a 1.4ghz P4 so of course :P
Cons: I'm not sure why, but on SRT and in dxdiag it shows my 3800+ running at 2ghz when it's listed at 2.4ghz. Is my motherboard reading it wrong? And if it is does it affect the processor speed? Or is it JUST reading it wrong? It's an AM2 Biostar motherboard, not sure which one though.
Other Thoughts: With my 7600gt I play ANY game I want :P

Pros: This Orleans core runs very cool with a low power draw. Cool 'n quiet, it handles just about anything you throw at it at 2.4 GHz. That's just a baseline as this one runs so cool, it begs to be overclocked. If you're looking for that low buck fast deal, this is it. Expect Windows to load and be ready for use in under a minute from that first press of the power button!
Cons: The only con here is this is not a Dual Core processor.
Other Thoughts: At NewEgg's low price for this processor, it is a great deal for the new AM2 systems. Mine runs at 22-32 degrees Celsius depending on the load - and that's with the supplied AMD HSF and factory heat transfer pad. ASUS M2N32-SLI Wireless Deluxe, 1 Gb. Crucial "Ballistix", ASUS EN7600GS Silent video card, Antec NeoHE 550w, and XP Pro 32 bit OS.

Compile times? goodbye.
Pros: I upgraded from a 2500+ Sempron. Man, I'm enjoying this! even when I OC'd all the way my sempron was 1/2 a gigahertz behind this one on normal. SPEED, CHEAP(ish) and AM2!
Cons: none so far. although if it randomly burns out or something like that, I'll have to revise that statement.
Other Thoughts: the fan was a little weird. I hope they make the levers a little stronger, it felt like it could break if you got rough.

Cons: NOne yet.
Other Thoughts: This is a great cpu. This cpu wth a biostar amd2 mob and 2 gb of ddr2 is really fast. If you are getting a amd2 mobo, this is your cpu.

AMD owns
Pros: Like the guy below, I upgrade from A very old CPU (tbred 1800+) I love the fact that I am running all of my games maxed out(even Oblivion) runs stock at 30-40c. loads windows in a heartbeat.
Cons: I dont have the guts to overclock it yet.
Other Thoughts: I heard It can be overclocked from 2.4 to about 3.0 GHZ, which I think is rediculous.

Got my fix...
Pros: Low volts, high clocks... what more could you ask for. Currently sitting at 2.95GHz on the AM2 single core stock cooler.
Cons: Limited to max of 12 multiplier
Other Thoughts: Since I used this opportunity to finally upgrade to a 64 bit platform I really have no basis for comparison vs 939/940 but I do know that it is infinately faster than even my T'bred B core XP 2000+.

Should have waited
Pros: Lightning fast X64 support Very stable could OC if i want, Havent needed to yet.
Cons: Single core, was best on market until about 2 days after i bought it when all sorts of double cores and better CPUs came out and the price got cut in half. Should have waited but i didnt know.
Other Thoughts: Still worth the price, handles everything i throw at it beautifully, when the time comes to upgrade it I shall.

fast
Pros: I bought this processor with a biostar motherboard to replace an AMD duron 1.3 and I was blown away by the performance difference. Installing windows took under 15 minutes, versus 2 hours with my last processor. runs Idle at around 32c and under load at around 39c. I love it and cant wait until I get a good video card in my system.
Cons: for some reason I was under the impression that the processor came with XP pro x64. Not a big deal.
Other Thoughts: easier processor mounting methods

Good for the money
Pros: This is a good processor if you want AM2 today. It keeps step well with my x1800 512MB graphics card. I have no issues playing Oblivion on Ultra High quality with this chip, and not even overclocked. Didn't have any issues with my install and it runs at a stable temp.
Cons: Price dropped massively since I bought it, but I guess I payed for not being able to wait

Pros: I bought this as a placeholder until the new 65nm chips come out. i didn't try past 1.45v. Acts like an OPTY. i'm sure this will do 3.0ghz. i just don't want to push that hard now.
Cons: Single core. Cache sizes are small. AM2 socket mounting plate is different. I had a hard time getting an Apogee mounting plate.

sweeet
Pros: this thing is great. it is by-far greater than intel becuase it is just as fast as one of their $500 processors. this thing has decent cache size. this this is the best for gamers
Cons: nope none
Other Thoughts: none except you should have ram with timings of 3-3-3-8 to get 10-20% extra performance

AMD Rockin along!
Pros: This model came as a RMA replacement for an out of stock 3000+. AMD is a good company that cares for its workers, and the people (the customers) those people work for. My visiting son is equipped with the latest dual-core Intel system from their rep.I was happy to hear him say, "This system is snappier". It is already 64 bit, and still resides on the leading edge of software written to make use of it. My system it set to 2.61 GHz with factory cooling maintaining a high of 38C. I use a DFI Lanparty Board with OCZ memory and 520w PS.It all runs as good as it looks in a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream ATX Case.
Cons: None!
Other Thoughts: I also use Gigabyte's X800 256 mb graphics card ( the quiet fanless model), and an AOC 17" widescreen HDTV LCD Monitor.

If you want AM2, wait
Pros: DDR2 support, small but obvious speed increase over DDR 400 with DDR2 800. 2.4 GHz, decent cache sizes. It appears to be based on the Venice core.
Cons: Not worth the upgrade...yet. If you are NOT a socket 939 user, by all means, buy this. You'll be able to upgrade again later.
AMD's 65nm AM2 sockets are under development. When they hit the market, that'll be the time to spring for AM2 if you are a 939 user now.
Other Thoughts: Newegg doesn't stock the socket AM2 X2s yet. Those are worth upgrading to, in my opinion. The two new X2s, 4000+ and 5000+ fill the gaps in the X2 line.
With the X2 4000+, we can finally get a low cost Windsor (AM2's Toldedo) core that we can OC to 4800+ speeds!

Awesome.
Pros: This is a very nice CPU. AMD has done a good thing releasing AM2, since DDR2 is such a big increase from DDR. I couldn't believe how fast this thing is, I didn't expect too much out of it. Great bang for the buck.
Cons: Will go down in price soon, a small cache, and not THAT much faster than the socket 939 Athlon 64 3700+.
Other Thoughts: Bang for the buck.

New platform, but same results
Pros: Great processor for anyone that is in need for a new pc.
Supports DDR2.
Cons: Small preformance increase over the last processor generation.
Heart of a s939 Venice processor.
Other Thoughts: Great processor, but not worth the upgrade if you are a s939 users. As of now the AM2 is basicly the same thing as the s939. The only thing that has changed in the extra pin on the processor and DDR2 support, but that's basicly about it.
