Overclockers Dream
Pros: AMD Overdrive took it to 3.5Ghz using my Coolermaster RR-H101-22FK-RA also purchased here. Core temps. running at 39.1 Price to performance ratio can't be beat.
Cons: No sticker in the box.
Other Thoughts: Never tried the fan but had planned on overclocking from the get-go.

Good deal at the time...
Pros: Able to unlock all four cores on an Asus M4A785-M m-atx MB. So far so good and seems stable. Like the unlocked multiplier feature for the future. When I bought the cpu the price was down at 119 so I got a good deal at the time!
Cons: Cheap heatsink and also compared against an i7-920, Q9550-S, and i5 processor at same frequency the above mentioned processors according to TomsHardware beat it in performance by a sizable amount and with less power wattage usage per mhz compared to the AMD Phenoms. Also the the X4-925 2.8ghz is going for $25 dollars less right now....
Other Thoughts: Despite performance rankings and power usage when I bought it at $119 made it a great deal and value per dollar spent. Can only guess that the X4 is cheaper because too many people are buying the X3s and unlocking the 4th core. Go figure....

Awesome
Pros: I just recently built my own machine and decided to use the 720 as my CPU because of the low cost (at the time) and the performance. This thing is leagues beyond my old athlon64x2 3800. I run high powered programs all at the same time and I experience no slow downs at all.
Cons: Dinky fan stock thermal paste
Other Thoughts: I have not tried to OC this thing yet, as I don't want to mess around with the OC'ing abilities until I get a new cpu cooler. I purchased this when it was $125...now it is almost $40 more.

Unlocked 4th core
Pros: Runs cool. Idles at about 33C in my system. Noticeable jump in performance from old system. Unlocked the 4th core via BIOS with no problems.
Cons: Came with poor non-heatpipe fan/heatsink. My server which has a Phenom 9600 came with the heatpipe fan/heatsink. Will be swapping them sometime in the future. Wish it was still $119 when I bought it.
Other Thoughts: Purchased this and a Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H for an upgrade from a Core 2 Extreme QX6700 (quad-core 2.66GHz) and Asus P5N32-E SLI. While the clockspeed isn't much higher, the 45nm architecture and low temperatures makes it easier to run harder and faster. CPU-Z views chip as a "Phenom II X4 20" Incredible performance upgrade for $220.

Very pleased with performance
Pros: Easily unlocked fourth core on Asus M4A78T-E mobo. Runs fine at 3.0 GHz with fourth core doing some video work, have not yet pushed up the frequency very far and stability tested it (system has only been assembled for a few days). Great price/performance tradeoff if you're willing to risk not having that fourth core be available.
Cons: None found to date.

Great Chip!
Pros: Excellent value, especially of the fourth core can be unlocked. I was able to unlock the fourth core with zero problems on a Gigabyte GA-MA790GPT-UD3H motherboard. I've been running it with 4 cores at 3.2 GHz for two weeks now with no stability problems.
Cons: Not as fast as the core i5/i7 from Intel, but plenty fast for most users.
Included heatsink/fan was pretty cummy looking (small, aluminum only). I re-used the heatsink/fan from my previous build, which was a better copper heatpipe design that came with an Opteron 180 chip.
Other Thoughts: All in all, a great value. If you want to overclock, I'd suggest ordering a separate heatsink/fan with a better design.

Smokin Fast
Pros: AMD Quality, 4th Core unlocked @Vstock, Decent stock Cooler, Runs cool with stock cooler w/ 3 or 4 cores running even cooler with a Zalman. I haven't Played around with overclocking yet, but through my research most of these 720's will run around 3.2 @Vstock with stock cooler and around 3.8 with a slight V bump on aftermarket cooling.
Cons: doesn't cook breakfast ;)
Other Thoughts: AMD is notorious for taking a perfectly good CPU and Locking it to sell as a slower processor to meet demands. I remember back in the day of the Athlon Xp CPU's of them taking Xp2600 CPU and locking and selling them as a Xp1700. They stopped making CPU's under the Xp2600 but the demand was extremely high for the slower processors. I bought 3 of those and each was a OC machine. Taking them from 1466mhz stock up to 3400mhz running them on Air cooling. Any way there is no guaranty that every 3 core CPU can be unlocked and run stable, It would be a good bet that it can be. Most of your SB710 and SB750 boards will have the options to unlock the cores. I did it with a ASUS M4A785TD-V Evo . It took all of 10 sec. to do. AMD may not be as Fast as Intel but you get alot more bang for your buck with AMD. Will post back with my OC later. Buy Buy Buy

Best processor I have worked with
Pros: Works perfectly. Easy-to-OC Black Edition. 2.8GHz stock speed. Managed to unlock my fourth core. Haven't noticed any stuttering in CPU-intensive tasks.
Cons: I had a little bit of a hard time figuring out how to get it out of the box. It was really well put together. Not much of a con.
Other Thoughts: Used on Asus M4A785-M Motherboard. Runs flawlessly.

Amazing
Pros: AMD :), Tri-Core, Low power, Runs cool, BE is great for overclocking. Would recommend to anyone on a budget.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I was able to unlock so its now a Quad. Also have it overclocked to 3.7Ghz and its stable. Even running at stock though this thing is amazing cant see a difference between this 720 and my bros 940.

Very Nice
Pros: Excellent speed, I have been using this processor for over a year now no problems. I also have ran from Windows XP 32 bit-Windows 7 64bit no problems. I was able to over clock this baby to 3.6ghz easily. CPU Ratio 18, FSB 200, PCIE 100, CPU Feq. 2400, CPU volt 1.5, CPU NB volt 1.4250, DRAM 1, HT volt auto, NB volt 1.2 Good price good buy. Windows 7 rates it at a 6.9 not bad. If you are planing on using a non-ssd this is the processor for you. Don't have the right motherboard to unlock the 4th core.
Cons: None

Best CPU I've ever owned
Pros: Stuck it in the board, booted up, unlocked the 4th core, and overclocked it to 3.6GHz. Tops out at around 58C after 12 hours of Prime95 with my Xigmatek Dark Knight.
Cons: Came three days late but that's not really Newegg's fault. UPS delayed the shipping.
Other Thoughts: As the title says, this has been the best CPU I've ever owned. Unlocking the 4th core was cake and overclocking by simply increasing the multiplier and the voltage was just as easy. Definitely recommended!

Exellent CPU
Pros: After reading all the reviews, (nd others on line) I went with Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz. After 6 days running this CPU at normal. I decided to unlocked the 4th core, so i did. (After some research of curse) I got it running at normal unlocked, or defaults settings; with the default heatsink.
Got the CPU in a MB GA-MA790GPT-UD3H. So yeh, I do have a 4 cores, nd 4 threads now, according to CUP-Z, nd Task manager. - Very easy to unlock with this MB.
This CPU is fast people, very fast. I have played some games, and man, I love it! - - No OC yet, just unlocked the 4th core, so far, with zero problems.
Cons: none so far. Nada. zero.
Other Thoughts: Is mah first build. I totally recommend this CUP. I got the parts to build a basic system, and is working excellent so far. Basically I have: Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) AMD Phenom II X3 720 hec X-Power Pro 600 600W GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD322HJ 320GB Antec Three Hundred Black LG DVD burner.
I will add some things later.
Newegg, said I will received it in such time, so i did. They are Awesome! No one doubt, 5 eggs from me.

great processer
Pros: - good price - 3 cores - nice clock speed - overclocks easily - 4th core has a possibility to be unlocked
Cons: - 4th core wouldn't run stable for me
Other Thoughts: I overclocked to 3.1 easily with the stock cooler and only 2 case fans, 4th core kept making my PC crash, so i set it back to one, but it's vert easy to unlock... all i had to do was go into advanced clock calibration in the bios and set it to auto.

Gaming!
Pros: A big step up from my old Athlon 7750+. This chip took a huge bottleneck off my 4890. I was easily able to unlock the 4th core and I'm running @ 3.6GHz 24/7. This chip is amazing for gaming, and for an extra $10-20 its worth the step up from the 550, the extra core comes in handy.
This chip takes its volts well, but odds are you won't need to go over 1.55V to get to the regular 3.7GHz for this chip.
When unlocked this chip compares to some of the mid-high range Intel LGA775 chips (Q6600). So for a $120~ you can't get a better deal.
Cons: It wasn't free
Other Thoughts: If you have the right motherboard and you find a Deneb version of this chip you have a fair chance of getting the fourth core unlocked.

Bang for the Buck
Pros: Best bang for your buck IMHO, even though the price seems to have continually been going up since I purchased mine just before New Years. Overclocks very easily and higher than I had expected. Unlocked the 4th core immediately (after I checked it would boot into windows and all first as it was part of a whole new build). After the 4th core was unlocked, it overclocked easily to 3.6 MHz before I had to mess with the voltage. After some tweaking, I was able to reach 3.86 MHz and able to run 3Dmark06. As of this moment, I am running at 3.7 MHz which seems stable, and planning to stress test over night tonight.
Cons: Only con seems to be that the price is heading upwards for some reason. Not a con for me, but maybe a con for anyone that has been looking at it and didn't decide to go ahead and buy it. But no ACTUAL cons for the CPU itself, lol.
Other Thoughts: This is definitely an excellent CPU to purchase. It is obviously not the best (fastest) CPU out there on the market, but unless you do some hard core video editing or CAD work, you will more than likely not tax this CPU to the max very often. It will perform any normal day-to-day task you will need it to, and also perform very well in any game you throw at it. Specs of New Build: *New* Asus M4A78T-E *New* AMD Phenom II X3 720 (X4 20 now) *New* Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3-1600 (9-9-9-24) *New* Xigmatek HDT CPU Cooler (@3.71 MHz Idle: 28ºC Full Load: 44ºC) OCZ 700w Gaming PSU ATI 3870 (Sadly 5870's are still too high :-/ ) 1TB Western Digital 750GB Samsung SpinPoint 200GB Maxtor (Original HDD, lol) LG Bluray/HD-DVD drive Thermaltake Armor Case and Fans

Woo AMD!
Pros: Everything. I upgraded from a Phenom I x3 8450 (2.1ghz) and this thing just blows it away. For a couple of days I will be using the stock fan until my new motherboard gets here, and it works very well. It is small, but nothing like the stock Intel coolers. As I'm typing this with Steam, Firefox and WMP running, the temps are 25c. Not going to unlock the 4th core, because it's not needed. This thing loves Windows 7 also, completely stable system.
Cons: Not exactly sure why the price if going up, but it's $40 more then when I purchased it. Maybe they just realized how much this thing is worth? Haha.
Other Thoughts: I am a frequent gamer and it was about time to upgrade the CPU, so finally my GTX275 is not bottlenecked anymore. Ran Crysis the first time booting and was amazed to see 50+ fps and never dipped below on very high settings. Modern Warfare 2, GTA4, Source engine games, all maxed and no hiccups whatsoever.

Perfect HTPC cpu
Pros: When building a HTPC it is all about low temperatures at no load, speed, and the ability to run a load cool with no noise. I got this cpu with on a combo deal with the Motherboard. It was an unbeatable combination of speed, quality, and value.
This cpu is more than capable of playing any game you will most likely play and it will play your blu-rays with no problems. It does what it has to at a very low price point. Intel has nothing that is as powerful with an unlocked multiplier at this price point (remember this is a black edition!). So even if you wish to overclock it you will have no problems, just remember every cpu's overclock range has varity of factors to maxing it out if that is what you chose to do.
Cons: The ONLY real con is, and it is REALLY nit-picking, is the cpu cooler. I have gotten other AMD cpus over the years and the CPU coolers from the factory have been a lot better. At least, for me, this is a throw away cooling solution and I would upgrade to even a very modest cpu cooler for both silence AND performance.
Other Thoughts: Many people buy this cpu to able to unlock the 4th core. I have not tried and MAY try, but to be honest for what MOST people will use this cpu for its not really needed.
I come from the school that the 4th core is locked for a reason for almost everyone. So if you want to play you need a decent motherboard with the latest bios. I just wonder if the performance gain is worth the possible risks that go along with unlocking the 4th core.
Some say to OC but not unlock or unlock and not OC. There are programs like prime 95 and others to test stability to whatever you do. The one thing that does not change is the bottom line and that is nothing will do what this cpu does for the money.

Very nice!
Pros: This is a very good processor for the price. I was able to overclock to 3.1Ghz and unlock the fourth core. This is much faster than I thought it would be, and it has plenty of cache.
No complaints with the processor itself thus far.
Cons: You might want to consider buying another cooler, even if you don't plan to overclock. The one that came with it isn't terrible, but it isn't too good, either.
Other Thoughts: Don't buy this solely for the chance that you may be able to unlock the fourth core, this is a good processor even without it.
I won't hold the sub-par cooler against the rating.

Wow!
Pros: Easy to Overclock Enabled fourth core Cool and quiet Great price
Cons: Can't seem to get the core temp reported with fourth core enabled
Other Thoughts: This is probably the best cpu I've ever owned. I over clocked it to 3.2ghz with all four cores enabled. I had to tweak the voltage (1.34 V) to a hair over stock but I ran Prime95 for 10 hours with no errors. Wow

Hell of a deal
Pros: Best power I've ever seen, best value too. Overclocked in BIOS from 2.8ghz to 3.6ghz with no vcore change. 23C idle 38C load - at 3.6 This proc really does everything I ask and more. I do not anticipate feeling any need to upgrade for at least a year.
Cons: None. That's with a capital N.
Other Thoughts: The stock Heatsink isn't too great, but if you're buying a black edition, are you really a person who would use a stock HS? I never took it out of the box, just slapped a Xigmatek cooler on there and it keeps this baby nice and cool. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003 ^what I use. Final words - get this proc. It'll do everything you want.

Onlsaught of Pwnage
Pros: I'v had this bad boy for about 6 months and I'm in love. Overclocks like a dream. I've been at 3.7ghz since i got it and not a single problem! bumped my voltage up to 1.45 and she's steady as a rock. I have a ThermalTake DuOrb cooler and i never go over 45c under 100% load for hours of stress testing. If you want a whole lot of bang for not a lot of buck, this is the processor to buy!!
Cons: Doesn't run hot enough to cook breakfast on.
Other Thoughts: This is a great processor for overclocking. I really suggest you buy a good cpu cooler for this cpu, from what I'v read the thermal threshold for this chip is 60c so make sure you stay under that. when overclocking, go up in small steps. kick up the multiplier and stress test, when it gets unstable, up voltage by .25. motherboards very and you need to take the time to find what works best on your hardware. orthos is a great stress testing tool.

Pros: A breeze to overclock. Currently have it overclocked to 3.2ghz. I didn't even bother taking it slow; just go in there and set the multiplier to 16. Didn't have to touch the voltage.
Cons: Stock heatsink and fan: it is too small to be useful for overclocking the CPU. The HSF that came with my AM2 6400+ was way better.
Other Thoughts: If you are looking to overclock (like i did), go with an aftermarket cooler. I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and am getting great temperatures (32C idle, 48C load) at 3.2ghz, which is more than what i can say for the stock HSF. The stock HSF gave me around 31C idle and 55C on load at *2.8ghz.*
I haven't bothered trying to unlock the fourth core, but i didn't purchase this seeking a quad core.

AMD Phenomll X3 720
Pros: This is my second X3 720 and i cant say enough about it. Ran fine out of the box,no problems even on stock heatsink and fan. MY first X3cpu had a bad cpufan would stop running after posting. Neegg took care of the problem and recevied the second cpu in about one week.Way to go new egg.
Cons: NONE

Great so far
Pros: Good speeds. Have not tried yet but the 4th core can be unlocked.
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: I am not a AMD fan dislike everything they make, but when my wife gave me a budget I was forced to buy an AMD processor to get a good video card and still stay under budget. Let me say after this processor I am a fan. In terms of bang for buck you cannot loose with this processor. I upgraded from a Intel Pentium 4 2.4C Northwood 2.4GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket 478 Single-Core Processor. It is like day and night

Haha awesome!
Pros: Black edition, easy to overclock, easy to unlock 4th core, just awesome haha as someone said i feel like i stole a 4 core cpu too, awesome on my family's pc i built which is only supposed to be a home pc but of course if i wanna use it, it has the power to do everything i want hehehe :)
Cons: Disappointed with the heatsink but then again i got an awesome heatsink with my 965 BE PhenomII so this of course is gonna have a cheaper heat sink not too bad of a con though
Other Thoughts: Nothing other than great price for an unlocked cpu which of course you can easily overclock like this one, i run this with:
GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H Mobo Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 previously 4gb(2x2gb) G Series Sector 5 (1.65V) at 1333 but am running the system completely stable without changing voltages with 4Gb(2x2Gb) A-data 1600's (1.6V)

Great CPU - Unlocked
Pros: This is a fast processor. I had it running on 3 cores initially, and was lucky enough to be able to unlock the 4th core. It has been running stable ever since. Recognized in Windows and CPU-Z as 'Phenom 2 X4 20'. It didn't unlock the 1st time i tried using ACC, but my mobo has 'Unleashing Mode' in the BIOS, so when i enabled this, it unlocked the 4th core (ACC still set to Auto)
CPU score in Windows 7 on 3 cores was 6.8. With the 4th core unlocked it is now 7.2
Im using stock heatsink which is very quiet and works well. Temperature idles around 43c and goes to around 53c under load. I have a 22cm fan on the side of my case, so this helps with keeping things cool. CPU fan is currently 3950 RPM idle and hits around 4600RPM+ under load.
Lots of overclocking room, but im yet to try that. Will let it run on 4 cores for a little while before i push it further.
Great price to performance ratio - i got this as a combo deal with an Asus EVO mobo.
6MB of L3 cache.
Cons: I guess the heatsink and fan felt a little flimsy, but im just nit picking now to write a con. The stock version works well but if you have a better one or if it gets too hot for you, then you can always upgrade to a cooler heatsink/fan.
Stock Thermal paste could be better.
Other Thoughts: This is my first build and it went great. I was initially going to go down the Intel path but im glad i didnt. This was built to be a gaming machine and this processor does the job nicely, for less money.
The extra cache and the unlocked core allows it to handle anything i throw at it, and even on 3 cores it didn't break a sweat.
If you can't unlock the 4th core, or if it isn't stable, don't worry as it is a great processor as a triple core. I was able to unlock it, so i may as well use it.

best value for the price!
Pros: Super fast triple cores (can overclock easliy because it is the "Black" edition); Runs extremely cool (20C when idle, 30C under heavy load stress test); Pre-applied thermal paste works just fine.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: If you want an AMD process with more power than a dual-core, but you don't want to fork over the cash for a quad-core, this is the process for you!

Good Processor!
Pros: Runs pretty cool (I get about 28C idle and 38-40C under load, load being CoD4, WiC, DoWII) even with the stock cooling fan. I've read that OCing to 3.2ghz with the stock fan is possible, however I haven't done it myself. This thing does all I need it to do, and then some!
Cons: Something went wrong with the first one after four days of use. Long story short, by the time I figured out what it was, I was outside Newegg's 30 returns policy so I had to call AMD. I had a shipping certificate fifteen minutes later and had the replacement within a week! (the first one being dead is the cause for the four eggs)
Other Thoughts: AMD's support was a dream to talk to, actually sounded like I got somebody who spoke actual English. The quick turn around was awesome too.
My computer runs beautifully now!

Unlocked and Overclocked
Pros: I have been running this 720 for almost a year. Running at 3.42ghz and 4 cores. Temps are very good, but I have a Scythe MUGEN-2 SCMG-2000 .
Cons: Nothing
Other Thoughts: Listen up, this 720 X3 is fantastic, you never have to wait. It just fast. I am not going to tell you that it will be faster than a i7, because it's not. It is fast enough for anything except maybe CAD.
Best CPU money can buy for the price.

SOI which people don't KNOW ABOUT
Pros: This processor HAS SOI silicon in it. Which means that it has less nonsense in the Compound and thus and produce 30% more power more efficiently. This is one of the Best Chips on the market and dude to the ability to unlock a 4th core, you have much room for improvement on this chip. Noone I've seen stated anything about the SOI technology which makes me wonder what the heck is going on. 2.8ghz QUAD AM3 with L3 6MB and SOI. Great buy.
Cons: Should be emphasized that the chip has SOI and that its 45NM... on top of that... its BLACK and has less restrictions to over-clocking.
Other Thoughts: Pare this processor with ARTIC 5 SILVER, a ARTIC COOL CPU COOLER a Motherboard with DDR3 and at least DDR3 1066. You should have a system to get it done...

unlocked 4th core!
Pros: Price of 3 cores but i unlocked 4th. Nice CPU even with only 3 cores. Benchmarks prove it's faster than Intel CPU's that are 40 dollars more. Unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking. Hands down best value CPU on the market.
Cons: It's hard to imagine anything wrong with this? I think AMD could have increased the clock speed, but one bump in the multiplier you get a 3.0Ghz CPU.
Other Thoughts: Okay here's the deal for anyone looking to unlock the 4th core (which worked for me but may not for others). I have a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H. Some people are reporting you must have a 750 southbridge motherboard, but according to gigabyte this board has a 710. Also rumored was that you had to have a 790X, 790GX, or 790FX chipset. I have 785G chipset so, I find this to be false.
In the BIOS I only had to make 2 changes to unlock the 4th core. Advanced settings, Advanced Core Calibration, changed firmware version to "hybrid", changed from "auto" to "all cores". THATS IT!
Run CPU-Z and it shows 4 cores, 4 threads and thinks its a 940 Quad! Nice.
Task manager shows 4 CPU's as does device manager. Nice.
I feel like I stole this thing.

Very impressive proc.
Pros: I do a lot of video and audio ripping, transcoding, encoding, etc. This thing was a tremendous jump from my AM2 5400. My working time has been cut in half. After a week of burn-in, I started playing with some overclocks- this chip is supremely easy to bump up. I didn't mess with the stock voltage of ~1.35v, and bumped the multiplier to 16, and this thing was rock solid doing video processing overnight. My aftermarket cooler is good, but I didn't really feel like pushing any further at this time. I backed the multiplier back down to x15, and it has been working like a champ for a couple of weeks, now. It idles at just under 40degrees C. and when I'm REALLY pushing it, it gets up to 50-ish degrees C. I upgrade about every 2 years, and this is the first chip I've gotten in a while that's just "felt" all-around better/faster/stronger than the previous one in my system. If you are an A/V person on a budget, this is a hard chip to beat, for the price.
Cons: The included heat sink is really junky for what I would consider AMD's higher-end line of procs. I would have thought that they would use one of their heat-pipe sinks, similar to what I've gotten with previous Opterons. No eggs taken off for this, though. I'm sure it works just fine with no overclocking on the chip. Frankly, I'm surprised that there was a heat sink included at all with a Black Edition. They didn't use to include them.
Everybody always gets nuts about the Egg's shipping, but it's never struck me as overly impressive. And I only live 5-ish hours from the warehouse this was shipped from. Not a real complaint... just an observation.
Other Thoughts: Running this on a Gigabyte 780g mobo, with 2gigs of Mushkin memory. After I popped this chip in, my mobo automatically ramped the memory up to DDR2 1066 speeds... nice!
At average load, runs at 43degrees C. with my Cooler Master heat-pipe cooler.
I don't have a mobo capable of unlocking a 4th core, but some software of mine has detected an available 4th core. I'm hoping that when I upgrade my mobo, that I will be able to have a stable unlocked 4th core. That would be pretty nice. I know that this is a gamble, though. I certainly wouldn't have bought this chip with the sole intention of unlocking a fourth core. Seems a silly gamble for as inexpensive as AMD 4-core chips are.

EMAZING
Pros: Very easy to OC with my new gigabyte board (790xt a ud4) got it all the way up to 3.6 and its still running smooth and cool. I have a kingston heat sink and 7 fans tho. Also the fourth core unlocked smoothly and is stable.
Cons: That i didn't buy it sooner
Other Thoughts: You can't really beat the price, for a 119 bucks i got a quad core at 3.6 ghz. and even if you can't unlock the 4th core or its not stable you still have a beastly tri core.

Great Value
Pros: Just this simple, there is no greater value for the money. Having a X4 for the price of a X3.
Cons: AMD is on the edge, the edge of being left behind by not improving performance and features no faster than they are. This is a main reason they offer such a great value for their cpu.
Other Thoughts: My X3 720 unfortunately actually had a bad core. Bad enough to severely limit any oc'ing to about 3.2 Ghz. And then I had to turn the voltage up to get that. I built this system to replace a Intel 965 with a E4300. (Developed MB problems.) So I really am not worried about the oc'ing. New system included CoolerMaster Scout case, 4 gigs G.Skill 1866 memory. Thermaltake PS--700watt, GA-MA790GPT-UD3P (MB included the AMD 720 as a combo.) Also a Samsung DVD burner/CD drive and 2 WD 500 gig HD's. Win7 64 bit--- I built the entire system for about about 650 bux.---Not bad......

great price for the power
Pros: Three cores, Stable overclocker, 6mb L3 cache, Awsome price vs performance. Unlocked multiplier. Cool temperatures with stock heatsink/fan.
Cons: 2.8ghz.... Not a con but...
Other Thoughts: Stable overclock to 3.6 with stock cooler and a gd70 MSI board. Have it currently running @ 3.2ghz @ 91f under load and 77F (ambient) at idle! (stock HSF)

Great Value
Pros: Unlocked 4th core with the Gigabyte GA-MA790GPT-UD3H MOBO without any problem and everything on default. My 4th core is stable and can easily be overclocked to 3.3Ghz. Haven't pushed it farther because I still only have the stock heatsink on it, which handles the 4th core and OC fine, but still runs warmer than I'd like at load.
OC multiplier makes OCing simple.
Cons: None, this thing is a beast.
Other Thoughts: Great value, but like others have said, not all chips have a stable 4th core, if your MOBO is even able to unlock it. If your decision is riding on being able to have 4 cores, go buy a phenom II X4. If your going to be happy with 3 cores and pleasantly surprised with a 4th core stable unlock, than this is an amazing chip.

Great Processor
Pros: AM3 socket, DDR3 ready, unlockable 4th core, unlocked multiplier, good overclocking, fast, runs cool. What more could you want?
Cons: It didn't come with a sticker. I was a little disappointed.
Other Thoughts: Unlocked the 4th core and overclocked to 3.2ghz on the stock cooler. Idles at 37C, load at 54C.

Sweet spot for gaming value
Pros: -Low power even at 3.2 GHz (mine did not unlock) -Best of both worlds between dual and quad -AM3 Socket ensures a smooth upgrade route until Fusion hits
Cons: -Quad-core optimizations might confuse a triple-core system -Not an i5 (but priced competitively against it)

Solid bang-for-buck performance
Pros: Lots of headroom. On-the-fly custom C&Q and it idles cores at 21º/16W at 1.5Ghz/1.0V. Can unlock 4th with GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H 785G-IGP but choose to run on 3 cores at 3.2Ghz on stock 1.325V/1.312V-effective. Paired with OCZ Vendetta 92mm HSF + AS-5 with side-panel 120mm undervolt fan blowing over HS. Prime95 stable, impressive without breaking a sweat.
Cons: You still have to use mouse/KB to get work done.
Other Thoughts: $120 delivered (less with combo) for this, try and see if you can do better.

Excellent Performance for Non-Gamers.
Pros: Idle temperature is between 30 and 38 C, depending on the ambient temperature and what was previously processed. With a 3.0 15-minute load average (a.k.a. "100% processor usage for at least 15 minutes") the temperature tops out at 45C in a warm room.
I've had it up to about 3.7GHz without issue for a short period of time, with no extensive testing. But it can happen, and it's nice to know that, in four years when it starts to show its age, I can clock it up a bit to get some more life. I know that's not what overclocking is intended for, but it works for me.
I do a lot of work in linux and FreeBSD, and it's always very fast. I can compile rings around my friends.
Paired with an ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard.
The included fan is also quiet, and never goes faster than about 2500RPM.
Cons: Linux has no problem getting temperature and fan-speed readings, but FreeBSD does, in both x86 and -64 versions. That seems like it's motherboard-related, but if you're one of the two other BSD users out there, you may want to know. Furthermore, the motherboard and CPU seem capable of managing their own speed-throttling and temperature issues without software, which is more than I can say for the Core 2 Duo T7300 that I used to have.
Other Thoughts: Great value. I highly recommend this product as a "first step" into the AM3/DDR3 series of processors.

Love It
Pros: I must say that I didn't carry out any fancy testing, other than installing this CPU on a brand new motherboard. However, this CPU replaced an Athlon 2.2 GHz and I'm just impressed with the speed. From opening a word document, to viewing a movie this CPU just does the job well and without hesitation. The included cooling fan and heat-sink work wonderful to maintain the operating temp low and the fan is whisper quiet. Installation was a breeze and the heat-sink comes with the proper amount of thermal grease already applied.
Cons: I can't think of any.
Other Thoughts: May not be as fast an equivalent Quad-Four AMD CPU, but cost a heck of a lot less.

Everything I hoped it would be and more
Pros: Everything positive has already been stated by the previous 903. It's all true I tell you!
Cons: Stock heatsink is kind of cheesy. I already knew that by the previous 903 reviewers, so it wasn't a rude surprise.
Other Thoughts: 4th core unlocked easily, running mine at 3.1GHz. It's been rock solid. I doubt you'll be disappointed with this CPU.

Great performance for the money
Pros: Overclocks very well with 3 cores.
Cons: Four cores work, but takes too much tweaking to get it stable on all four cores.
Other Thoughts: Beats most Intel Core Duo.

Liked it so much I bought 2
Pros: Fast, overclockable, low temp, works in Foxconn MB from Gateway computer. I've had it up to 3.4ghz with just air cooling (V8 Cooler). In games/apps that only use one core 2.8ghz is fast, in games/apps where more than one core is used 2.8ghz x3 is killer.
Cons: Stock heatsink/fan may be ok for surfing the web, but if you do any serious gaming I'd suggest an aftermarket cooler. Cooler Master V8 keeps mine cool even under full load.
Other Thoughts: I Purchased one for myself a few months back and am so happy with it I'm giving one to my nephew for Christmas. Matter of fact I'm doing ALL my Christmas shopping at the Egg this year. Ho Ho Ho.

Great multi-tasking performer
Pros: The 3rd core is nice for the user, no significant lag on this office desktop publishing machine no matter what's running in the background. Excellent price/performance ratio. Fast clock works well even with programs that don't know how to use more than two cores.
Cons: Not the most powerful processor in existance.
Other Thoughts: Picked up 2 of these for a new Win7 x64 office computer build. It's a bit overpowered for a PC that just does office work with the occasional desktop publishing, but the users are thrilled by the performance.

amazing processor for the price
Pros: unlocked 4th core, and then overclocked to 3.4 ghz just by changing the multiplier and slightly pumping voltage. extremely fast.
Cons: if you're not able to unlock your 4th, more value could be found with the athlon 620.

Quad for the price of a X3
Pros: I have the 955 (love it) but I bought one of these ECS 780 ultra with 750SB so I wanted to check this unlock a core stuff and it worked have 3.2 Ghz quad @ stock voltage. but it is a bit tricky to get these unlocks! my board has two acc settings in bios one lets you use auto or all cores or per core that alone won't unlock core the other acc is special acc and it takes both enabled to unlock and this is where it gets weird! now on mine you set acc to per core then set 0% for cores that were unlocked and for the one locked core (+2% or +4% or +6%) mine worked +4% but failed to start sometimes after shut down or crash from overclocking so +6% is the sweet spot for mine. now when I enable these acc functions and save and exit it takes a little longer to post but as soon as it does I re-enter cmos setup and turn special acc off because it will effect your overclocking at least it did on mine. if you do loose your unlock core later you have to do the above again.
Cons: NOPE NADA IS NONE!!!!!
Other Thoughts: stock 3 cores stock voltage 3.3Ghz 100% stable $99 of GOODNESS! 4 cores stock voltage 3.2Ghz 100% stable hey thats my 955 stock no thats my 720 X3 unlocked. luck? could be but the core that was locked on mine was core3 if it would have been 0,1,2 then I would think maybe has bad core so all 720 owner's that has core 3 locked may just be sitting on a Quad! Hats off to you AMD for not fixing this free lunch only the brave will find it and the goodwill it causes will pay for the gift! Thank You AMD. Great job on the 45nm chips AMD is back in BLACK!! "all overclocking done with AOD in windows don't overclock in bios with this MB." hope the info helps.
PS: ECS 780 ULTRA BIOS VER. NEEDED IS (780U9B16)

3.5GHz 4 cores.
Pros: You get way more than you pay for.
Cons: n/a
Other Thoughts: I've unlocked the 4th core simply by enabling ACC in my bios and now I'm running it at 3.5GHz (1.425v) (all 4 cores) on air with a northbridge of 2.6GHz (1.375v) Temp is in the mid 30s to mid 40s (C) In order to get it past 3.2GHz stable I enabled a positive ACC of 4% to the 4th core. I read somewhere that positive ACC is beneficial to weak cores and it seems to work for me.

too fast
Pros: This processor runs fast and cool. FAST at stock speed, which is nice. Overclocks easily due to the unlocked multiplier. I have OC'd it to 3.2GHz with stock voltage and cooling. I was successfully able to unlock the 4th core, but I won't be using that until I get a better heatsink.
Cons: for some reason CPU-Z shows it as AM2+, when it is AM3
Other Thoughts: Paired with 4GB DDR3 1333, ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO, GeForce GTS 250 and I am running games and Windows itself like never before. Long overdue upgrade from a Pentium D 820

Fast
Pros: Mine runs at 3.2GHz with all four cores enabled. I could probably make it go faster with a better heatsink but I wanted to keep costs down so I'm using the stock heatsink and fan, which are good enough for me.
Cons: If you unlock the fourth core, the internal temperature readings seem to not work.
I found that AMD's overdrive utility was not useful. Tweaking by BIOS was much better for me.
Other Thoughts: This is really awesome for VMWare Workstation

Pros: Very stable even when overclocked 25%. Occasionally the 4th core can be unlocked.
I run this chip at 100% load, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. I have never crashed due to the CPU.
Full loaded and overclocked, the temperature is 35C under a lapped ThermalTake Big Typhoon. Idles at 26C.
Cons: I'm having trouble thinking of any.
Other Thoughts: This chip is baller.
Best bang for the buck. Period.

Great Value
Pros: Processor installs easily and runs great. Amazing performance compared to my older single-core AMD processor.
Cons: For the warranty on your CPU to remain valid, you MUST use the heatsink that comes with the processor. Not so great for those who plan to run this processor hard and want to use a better heatsink/fan. Without this stipulation by AMD, I would've given 5 eggs.
Other Thoughts: Got this at a good value as a CPU/Motherboard Combo, and I have no regrets yet!

Pros: It doesn't explode when you run a current through it. It's fast, etc. I've always bough AMD for computers I build; I feel you get more for your money.
Cons: Nothing to report aside from the reality that in a few month's time this processor will be relatively slower to what's available in the market. To call the at a "Con", though, would indicate a rather dour outlook on reality.
Other Thoughts: I was able to unlock the fourth core of mine, and it appears that a lot of other reviewers were able to as well. This is great for us, but even without that capability I would be satisfied.

Superfast!
Pros: Fast and Reliable. Haven't had any temperature or stability problems using the Gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H motherboard. The original fan and heatsink that came with the cpu works fine as long as you aren't going to play highend MMORPG's. For the price, you CAN'T beat it.
Cons: Absolutely NONE!
Other Thoughts: Will buy two more for wife and sons computers within the next month. Seriously, if you want something faster than a two core, with the potential to unlock a fourth core using the Black Edition and don't want the price tag of a four core processor, GET THIS ITEM.

best processor for the money
Pros: i was not sure between this and a phenom II 955 and reading over the specifcations of this vs 955. i decided to go with this. because its cheaper and can overclock to 955 specs with no problem. and can unlock 4th core.
Cons: none.
Other Thoughts: this processor maxs out at 3.8ghz@1.45v stable. ran prime 95 for 12 hours straight no problems.

AMD F.T.W.
Pros: cheap next gen cpu. cant get much better for this price. decent op temp with a zalman cooler. max temp seen is 51c @ full load and thats with ambient temp at 90f. was able to unlock all 4 cores @ 3.0ghz. noticed frame rate jump on all games (tf2, l4d2, borderlands, SF4, GTA4 runs like $$$.) never seen any frame go below 40 fps @ max setting with a 9600gt stock @1080p res. system runs smoother then a ferrari. upgraded from a amd athlon 64 x2 4200+
system: ASrock A780gmh/128m Cooler Master extreme power duo 600w sli/xfire ready pwrsply crucial 4gb 800mhz ddr2 320/500gb sata2 hd pny 9600gt 512 gddr3 amd phenom II x3 unlocked OC'd @ 3.0GHz Cooler Master centurion 5 series case (cant remeber exact model) Vista 64-bit
Cons: stock heatsinks suck. and i got gas.

Well worth the money
Pros: Fast for gaming. Cheap. Unlocked to x4 and was able to overclock to 3.6ghz x4 but did not try to go any higher due to the very stingey heatsink that is included which is almost the same one as the one they send for the sempron 140.
Cons: Couldn't even really tweak it because it gets past 70c very quickly when you start running things higher then the stock cpu clock. This is a Black Edition processor AMD should know better then to include such a lame heatsink for a processor they intend to be overclocked. I guess I can't complain too much though because I have a processor that I can crank up to be faster then a PII 965 so I guess I will have to take the extra bread I saved and buy a mid range heatsink and fan
Other Thoughts: Aside from the horrible stock heatsink which I can't stress enough just how really bad it is and that you wont be able to overclock much if any without replacing. This processor is a great performer and with a good video card such as a radeon 4850 or geforce 9800 gtx+ or higher you will be able to play all games out there on high settings.

Another Fan
Pros: I'm a gamer, so this CPU is plenty for me. With a minor multiplier increase, I get this to 3.2-4GHz. That leaves two speedy cores for gaming (the ones that use multicores) and 1 for system processes. Runs like a dream.
I highly recommend this CPU if you are on a budget but want a lot of bang for your buck. I paired this with an ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO. Works great! With the prices basically the same, no reason not to get an AM3/DDR3 board.
Cons: Heatsink. It's not "bad". Though when overclocking to 3.2GHz, it starts running up to 49c with load. Not horrible, but not great. That's even with ArcS5 on it. I wouldnt want to squeeze any more power out of it without a nice heatsink. Though even with stock settings, this is a beast.
Other Thoughts: On stock settings got a 18k benchmark out of this in 3dmark @ stock 2.8GHz. AMD Phenom II x3 720 BE ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO 4GB OCZ DDR3-1333 PC10666 XFX GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog Rosewill Wind Knight Case RaidMax 630SS PSU

A very nice CPU
Pros: Triple Core with good chances to have 4-th unlocked. Unlocked multiplier to give you easy underclock or overclock. Works with DDR2 on my AM2 board, so in the future I can move to AM3 and DDR3 w/o the need for an immediate CPU upgrade. Three legs are better than two :) even if it sounds odd. Large L3 cache for some applications.
Cons: - Weak stock cooler & fan, but if you decide to use it, I would strongly suggest to replace the provided thermal paste, else if you wish to remove the cooler for any reason, make sure you have a hot CPU before trying that. - 95W not 65W
Other Thoughts: If I leave my computer on overnight doing some download for instance, I prefer an underclock to save energy. If I need power, then I will overclock this puppy. Very easy I went to 17x 210 (3.57GHz) on default voltage and stock cooler. The temperatures are a bit high in my mind, at stock speed CPU temp is about 40C idle and goes to 52 fully load. And I am talking about CPU's temp and not COREs temp (they go from 30C to 48C). Note: * For AM2+ and AM3 CPUs, the digital temperature (core temperature) is not an actual temperature. It has been adjusted for AMD SB-TSI(side-band thermal sense interface). The stored value in the CPU register is not the true value. Some hardware monitors know the location of this register, and will read and display this digital temperature even though it may not be correct. The CPU temperature is the temperature detected by a thermal diode embedded on the motherboard. The reading from this diode is more accurate. So, which one are you guys reporting here?

Nice processor
Pros: Awesome processor for the price, nice temps for 3-4 cores :)
Cons: No real cons, just took awhile to figure out why my temps were higher than most others. I haven't owned an amd since the amd athlon 64 3200+ single core :)
Other Thoughts: Unlocked 4th core stable at 3.0ghz 1.3v(stock) max temp 52c

Great CPU
Pros: Blows my old dual core away. I was able to unlock the 4th core with no problem, and it's been running fine ever since.
Included heatsink/fan work fine, no overheating issues even at prolonged full load. Could be quieter but really not loud at all.
Cons: No problems.
Other Thoughts: Great deal even if you can't unlock the 4th core.

Pros: The CPU overclocks very will, I got it to 3.0ghz without any temp increase. I upgraded from AMD Athlon X2 6000+ and got a massive FPS increase in all my games, even the single core games.
Cons: Couldn't unlock the 4th core.

4th core unlocked
Pros: Unlocked 4th core on a GIGABYTE GA-MA790GPT-UD3H AM3 AMD 790GX with NO issues. Ran Prime 95 blend for an hour with no errors. Easy install, as was the stock heatsink. Runs at 27C idle 51C at full load.
Fast processor!
Newegg shipping was great!
Cons: none yet!
Other Thoughts: I changed it back to an x3 as I didn't need the 4th core at the moment. Plus you can't see the temps in HWMonitor otherwise.

720 BE
Pros: To be honest, I spent a lot of time debating between this or an Intel Core i5. When browsing various benchmark site's I decided to take a plunge on this, and I have not regretted it one bit. Let me put it to you like this... I do a few things CPU intensive as far as old game's that max out core's.... this thing can not be slowed down. Can play an MMO, be on facebook, on MSN Live and AIM, have an open Steam game going, Ventrilo, throw in Last.fm scrobbler streaming radio and the cpu just ask's for more. No where near maxing this thing out anytime in the future.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Paired this with..
MSI 790FX-GD70 Mobo 4 Gigs of Patriot Gamer Series Ram ( AMD Tested ) XFX GTS 250 1gig ( reported as GTX 250 ) Corsair 650w PSU Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Drive ( SATA ) Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium
Note: Turn off Cool n Quiet if you want it to stay clocked at 2800, C'N'Q will keep it underclocked around 800, then bump up to 1600 when needed.

720 BE
Pros: 720 is good chip . I did unlock success 4th on MA790GP-UD4H board @ any bios version . Simple I just lower cpu voltage 0.25 each time ,till it can start up windows ok . My cpu voltage is 1.150 right now when I post this . Temp is low , it is show in bios about 23 C at idle , about 32 C load .
Cons: I had 2 choice , first unlock 4th core and stable with default 2.8 GHz OR second stable only 3 core overclock to 3.5GHz with default cpu voltage.
Other Thoughts: 4th core unlock is seem ok to me , because cpu run very cool .

Good upgrade
Pros: Surprisingly big speed boost from my intel e6600. Successfully unlocked the forth core through asus's unleash mode on the M4A79XTD EVO motherboard. This paired with a set of ddr3 RAM you'll have your self pretty fast rig.
Cons: None for me yet
Other Thoughts: Overall i'm happy that i upgraded its increased my speed of window's and upped the frames on the games i play Wic, Crysis COD: WaW, Fallout) all of my applications basically. Also this has got to be the best price/performance ratio, especially if your lucky enough to unlock the forth core

Ohhh yea dont stop!
Pros: Great cpu! Runs stable @ 3.6GhZ @ 1.425v
Using a Gigabyte 758 mobo I unlocked the 4th core -- For me it runs stable with all 4 @ 3.6 @ 1.5 volts. Don't expect any miracles though.
Not tooooo hot considering ove OCing (~34c idle ~67c load) as well w/ an Arctic Cooling 64 Pro and a sphincter-load of Arctic Silver Ceramic
Cons: WhAt?!?!
Other Thoughts: I personally call a chip stable after 3 hours of GTA: Vice City while running 1 instance per core of "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/null" (I'm a Linux man.)
Mysystem:
Corsair 400w psu 2x 1gb Crucial Ballistix (the orange one) 1333 running at 1600 this CPU but 4 cores and 3.6ghz gigabyte ga-ma785gmt-ud2h Seagate 120gb 7200rpm sata hd lite-on ihas124 cd/dvd r/rw sata drive generic-ish 3.5"fdd custom heavily-modified-by-me ubuntu 9.10 linux
Oh and yes, Vice City IS playable in Linux under Wine. Good day.

Pros: Cheap and Fast.
Cons: runs hot with stock cooler.
Other Thoughts: I bought this as my first custom rig. Unlocked the 4th core (stable) and OC'ed to 3.2 Ghz.

6 month update
Pros: I have had this processor for aout 6 months now and it seems to amaze me how far you can push this thing! I have gotten this up to 3.5 on the stock cooler. It beats my Core 2 Quad Q6600 and I spent $100 more on that (at the time).
Cons: Absolutely none
Other Thoughts: I swapped the stock cooler for a Corsair H50 Liquid Cooling setup. It went form 23 idle/32 load to 15c idle/19c load. I plan on pushing it further now with the cooling out of the way
