Rating + 5 Great!

Pros: It's great, does what it's supposed to, and stays cool in my case! Replaced a C2D E4500 and is a GREAT improvement! Windows 7 32-bit experience rating is over 7.0... can't remember the full number now, though.

Cons: None.

Rating + 5 Missing Information about this CPU

Pros: For those that are looking to understand Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) this CPU does have Virtualization Technology. It does say because the spec code is (SLGT6)
Newegg needs to add this information to the list of spec. But the only difference from the Q9400 and Q8400 is the L2 Cache on the Q8400 is 4MB and the Q9400 is 6MB. Eventhou the Q9400 is faster but 15% the Q8400 is still an excellent product to buy at 169.99. The Q9400 is only 189.99.

Cons: Lack of information about this intel product.

Other Thoughts: Good information provided by Intel website.

Note: This item product does have VT support

Rating + 5 Nice processor

Pros: I purchased this paired with Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L MB. I also own an AMD Phenom 9950 (quad core 2.66 GHz) and this is notably faster for demanding applications. Benchmarking puts it near the i5 750 for about $50 less (unless you are wanting some of the i5 specific features).

This build is for my parents so I didn't overclock, but I am positive that it would have been a breeze. On a stock clooler in a case without great airflow idle temps were just around 30 C. Paired with a better case (airflow wise) and aftermarket cooler, I am confident that this thing could easily clock past the 3 GHz mark.

Cons: For ~$20 more you can get a Phenom II 965 that would definitely outperform this along with many of the other similarly priced Intel processors. If I were building myself a gaming rig on a similar budge this is the route I may have taken.

Rating + 5 Works great

Pros: Passed stress test with BurnInTest Pro at max-load duty cycles on a 15 minute duration. Utilizing it for my everyday tasks I didn't see it bump past 5% most of the time (I multi-task A LOT). Never went above 65°C during the stress test, 70° is high and it never reached anywhere close to it. Of course, the temp has a lot to do with the CPU cooler and case I have(Rosewill RCX-Z300 92mm Ball CPU Cooler, and the NZXT ZERO 2 chassis - fully loaded with fans). All in all this thing is very very quick, can handle any day-to-day task and even your more complex tasks such as 3D modeling and the like.

Cons: The socket format. Not really an issue for most, but keep in mind that it is VERY EASY to bend the pins on the mobo. They're basically little pieces of wire brush instead of pins. The slightest touch will bend them so just take care when installing the cpu.

Other Thoughts: I bought this as an upgrade from an AMD Socket AM2 64x cpu, so it had been a while since I have upgraded until this CPU. Even so, I still consider this thing fast and more then enough for your everyday computing.

Rating + 4 Good for price

Pros: - Great performance when overclocked
- runs at 3.6Ghz under 50 celcius on max

Cons: - 4MB L2 cache

Other Thoughts: I bought it for my 2nd computer and I'm very satisfied. If you have 775 socket and looking for a quad-core processor for little buget, this CPU is for you.

If you can overclock this CPU, you might want to play with this cpu.

Rating + 5 Beautiful

Pros: It's an average priced quad core, but the performance and overclocking headroom of this CPU is phenomenal. I bumped the clockspeed up to 3.6 Ghz (450 Mhz base clock) so it matches 1:1 ratio with DDR2 800 RAM (up to 900Mhz), with a minimal voltage change. It stays cool and stable through 24 hours of stress testing.

Cons: It's no i7 but the motherboard and CPU and RAM combination are much cheaper for a performance difference I doubt I would notice with the games I play.

Other Thoughts: With a Zalman 120mm CPU cooler and half a dozen case fans working for air flow temps are about 24C idle and never move above 55C full load (Prime95) so I'm such a happy camper.

When I built this PC RAM prices were about 50% what they are now for 2x2GB DDR2, so the build price now is up by 40-50$, but that's why this comment is in other thoughts, because it's really upsetting.

Rating + 5 Review of Q8400

Pros: Good overall processor, keeps fairly cool, has lots of processing power

Cons: A little low on cache, but most of you will not notice,

Other Thoughts: Sorry it took so long to rewiew, I got a bad one, so I RMA'd it, then, when I got the new one, I ran out of thermal paste, so I had to wait till I could get some, but any way.... I wanted to mention some things... 1st, alot of people claim the stock HSF (Heatsink/fan) is very loud. I disagree, I listened to the stock, and it is very quiet IF you remove the little cable that touches the fan (all you have to do is wiggle it out of the way a little, or else, yeah... it will be loud if the fan keeps hitting a cable) 2nd people complain the fan doesnt cool well, it actually cools fine if you are not overclocking, if you are overclocking, you will need a new one, 3rd people say the pins are hard to insert, they are, but not nearly as hard a what im used to (thermaltake blackwiddow) as for the processor, I overclocked the clock to 3.28 ghz, the FSB to 1640 mhz via Gigabyte's App, I did this with no volt increase, and with this fan: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1148&ID=1548

Pros: Fast. I'm using this with a gaming PC with an XFX Radeon HD 4870, and I get max FPS in CoD/WoW/Crysis/L4D2 on all high settings, loading times are almost instant.

Runs cool for the stock HSF! I'm currently overclocked to 3.2GHz with stock HSF, idling at 32C and full load around 50-55C. Cleaned off the pre-applied compound and put some Arctic MX2.

Cons: Wow, the hardest part about my whole new build was installing this HSF! The first two push pins go in with ease, but the last two are a pain to get in. You have to get some bawls to install it if you're afraid you're going to crack your mobo, but honestly I pressed down as hard as I could and it was fine. You know it's properly seated when you hear a squeaking sound, but look on the back of the mobo to make sure the push pins are seated properly, or your heat spreader isn't going to make contact and your temps will be through the roof.

Other Thoughts: I play with a clanmate who has an i7, and obviously I'm not going to have video editing/boot times like him, but for the current games today this is comparable to an i7.. me and him have the same benchmarks, both running HD4870's

Rating + 5 Great CPU

Pros: My second core2quad. This thing screams. Worked right out of the box, no problems.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Comes with a cpu fan with installed thermal grease, but I bought an aftermarket one instead. The included fan blows perpendicular to the board, which is nice if you want to use the air tube on the side of your case. However, I like to keep all the airflow in my case in one direction (front to back).

Pros: Does what its supposed to do. Great out of the box processor and even better when overclocked. This CPU can easily be overclocked to 3.2Ghz at 400mhz FSB without any effort. The Q8400 can easily handle that overclock and probably can go even higher which I'll be testing out soon.

At 3.2Ghz and 100% load, my temps maxed out at 50 deg C...(with Xigmatek DK cooler)

Even if you dont intend on OC'ing, it still breezes through applications.

Cons: Would be nicer if it had a higher multiplier. But besides that.....no cons.

Rating + 4 Work as expected -- fan is noisy

Pros: Meets all specs as far as I can tell. No issues. Installation is EASY. Love that way it just drops in. They should have invented that years ago. Even the push pins for the fan everyone has complained about are not that bad... (at least on first install).

Cons: Fan is noisy... I can't decide (yet) if I can stand the constant ticking noise. The is the reason for 4 eggs not 5. I may look for a quieter after market cooler. The fan on my old AMD Opteron64 was MUCH quieter. Perhaps this is a bad fan?

Other Thoughts: I'd love it if Intel were to offer a replacement fan that is quieter.

Rating + 5 Breathes new life in a P965 board

Pros: Fast, cheap quad core. Runs cool. Overclocks to 3.2 GHz with little effort. Impressive performance in video encoding/converting apps. Multitasking is smoother over a dual core.

Cons: Stock Intel HSF not so great for overclocking. I replaced it with my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and the temp dropped 10-12 degrees.

Less level 2 cache than the Q9400, but you'll probably never notice it. Most reviews show a 1%-5% gain over the Q8400. It's not worth the extra $20-$30, IMO.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace an aging E6400 in an ASUS P5B P965 motherboard and couldn't be happier. The latest 2104 BIOS allows the Q8400 or other 45nm Intel CPUs to work. The BIOS must be updated before you install one of these new CPUs.

Getting this CPU to 3.2 GHz on an older P965 board should be painless with decent cooling and RAM. I'm tempted to go a bit higher, but for now I'm pretty happy with the performance.

Save some cash and keep using that old P965 motherboard if it supports the newer 45nm CPUs.

Rating + 5 No complaints

Pros: Lots of performance, runs very cool.
Is also a decent overclocker -- I have mine stable at 3.8 GHz with minor Vcore increase and a good air cooler, temps in the lower 50s on full load. Could probably go higher, but it's plenty fast already and I'm too lazy for in-depth tweaking. :)

Cons: None that I can see. You can get more cache, but will have to pay more as well. The small performance increase was not worth it to me.

Other Thoughts: Good value for the money. I consider quad cores more future-proof than their dual siblings.

Rating + 5 Great but with the 1156 out.....

Pros: I have used two Q8400 CPUs now. I have been impressed with it's performance. If you need a replacement for a Pentium and you motherboard and RAM can handle this chip, it would be a great choice. It also overclocks well if that's what you're in to. It should run Windows 7 for a long time and be very snappy.

Cons: With the new 1156 socket CPUs out now, it does not make a lot of sense to use this CPU if you are building a new system. For about the same price you can get a motherboard, CPU, and DDR3 RAM for a new build. That said, the Q8400 is fine. It should do what most users need for years to come.

Other Thoughts: Even with the 1156 socket i5 and i7 chips, the motherboards are more "mature" for the 775 CPUs. Even if you ARE building a new system to run Windows 7, I would strongly consider getting this CPU and a good P45 motherboard. The new 1156 boards still have some bugs to work out at the time of this post. I have built systems with the Q8400, Q8200 and also the i5750 and i7860. The Q8400 does fine and I don't need to worry about flashing the BIOS on every motherboard when I use the Q8400. The technology is mature and everything works. With the i5 or i7 you might run into problems at the time of this post. The motherboards for the 775 socket have had a while to mature and they are great....so is the Core 2 Quad Q8400!

Rating + 5 Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 4MB L2 Cache

Pros: Excellent CPU for this money. I would not state it is a gaming CPU because it is not. It is very stable and most excellent for multi-program usage. The 3.0gig hz 1333fsb is the CPU I would get for gaming.

Cons: The fan could be better, but if installed using some care it will do the trick.

Other Thoughts: Better fan could be packaged, or a fan that is better latched to the motherboard. Other than that it is winner.

Pros: Great processor. Have not oc'ed yet, but from other feedback, it looks like I will have some room to grow.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Based on some other reviews both here and elsewhere, I decided to add an after market cooler as I will want to oc this in the future. I went with ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm Fluid Dynamic CPU Cooler. It works like a charm and is super quiet. I get around 30-32C standing still under no load.

Pros: Very realiable and fast processor. easily overclockable right out of the box. I have it clocked at 3.0ghz.

Cons: Took me a long time to get it to work. Had to go back to the original bios revison to get it working. Doesn't support a lot of motherboards, also it runs kind of hot.

Pros: Great CPU, especially for the given price. It runs everything I pu past it without lagging, runs very cool, and is easy to overclock, though I haven't really done anything with that, because the CPU hasn't run into any hitches at all yet running at factory clock settings

Cons: Not the top of the line, but, for a budget CPU, this is the one to go for.

Pros: Works well. Runs fast and no cool.

Cons: Fan mounting is not up to the job. We rent streaming PCs and the fan on this thing wants to jump off the motherboard. Poor nylon push pins are really garbage. If one of the pins comes lose your get very poor contact with the CPU and overheating or worse!

Rating + 4 A very decent processor

Pros: The entire Q8xxx series gets a really bad rep. b/c of Intel skimped on the L2 cache. While I'll admit 2x2mb shared shared across 4 cores is awfully small, its overall impact vs. similarly clocked Q9xxx quads is maybe 8-12% in certain apps. L2 is overrated unless u need 100% performance. When overclocked, this is a peppy CPU. On a MSI P45 Neo2-fr, Corsair XMS DDR2-400 5-5-5-18, all i did was lock the FSB/RAM ratio @ 1:1.20 and bumped the FSB to 8x400MHz... Bamm! 3.2GHz right outta the box!! No muss, no fuss.

Cons: At stock speeds (2.66GHz), this thing is too pricey at today. If u are not gonna O/C and u are a gamer, then I'd look at the AMD Athlon II's. They have higher stock frequencies and will perform better for gaming. It's still a fact that higher clocked dual-cores will out perform lower clocked quads in games... but that rule WILL CHANGE over the next 12-18 months as game API's are optimized for full quad cores w/ HT = 8 virtual cores!

Pros: well i wasent as expensive as the q6600 it replaced
ow by the way the cpu cooler on the q6600 was twice the size of the one that came with this cpu

Cons: not that big a diference from the q6600 it could be overclocked to do almost the same as this cpu
the q6600 had a multiplier of 9 while this cpu only has 8
mening that at same front side bus settings you get a higher reading from the q6600 but even so this cpu works fine and it isent a bad product

Other Thoughts: if i wasent building another comp and needed a cpu i wouldent have upgraded

used my old q6600 for an office comp i built for my wife used this upgrade on my gaming comp

Pros: Fours cores, overclockable, cool temps and very fast. First time overclocker here. I was able to overclock to 3Ghz and runs still very cool. Idle temps(under 30c)(loaded temps around 50c max) . Overclocking took some research but I succeeded and all is very stable and very fast. Lots of help on the net. I would recommend this highly.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: some folks have overclocked this to 3.4 Ghz and some higher with little trouble depending on motherboard. I stopped at 3Ghz. I might venture for more Ghz later. Again,
highly recommended.

Rating + 1 DOA

Pros: None as of yet.

Cons: I received this processor and was excited to install it, as part of my computer upgrade, and when I did install it I was greeted with nothing. . .No bios just whirl of fans on my computer. . .I put my old processor back in and everything was fine. I even tried it in another machine that has an identical processor and it wouldn't boot either. . .I was very sad to see it was DOA!

Other Thoughts: When I bought this processor it had Free Shipping, I even bought a couple more items that had Free Shipping cause it was a good deal. However, when I have to pay around $10.00 to ship it back because of a defect that was out of my control it's not such a good deal. I would rather have paid a little for shipping at first instead I have to wait 2 weeks for the replacement and am out ten more bucks. I'm a little disappointed in this process.

Pros: It was very fast. Was able to run multiple adobe programs at once without long render times and in program lag. Even noticed 3D render times in Autodesk maya09 increased.

Cons: Only thing I can really say is it ran pretty hot with the stock fan and settings. Had to lower voltages for and dumb down the speed to reduce temps.

Other Thoughts: With proper cooling in my second case wen i upgrade to the Antec 300 Illusion it wont be a problem.

Rating + 5 Low cost quad core monster!

Pros: I paired this CPU up with the GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard and the G.SKILL 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (2 of 'em).

The end result was a nice quad cord monster PC that has plenty of horsepower for anything you can throw at it. I guess you could get a faster computer by going with the i5 and i7 processors, but you'll spend a lot more money.

This retail boxed processor included the standard fan and heat sink eliminating the need to buy those on your own, and includes a 3 year warranty giving me peace of mind.

I used these parts to build a computer for my parents, so I had to have quality parts to keep my 'tech support line' from ringing too much - so Intel + Gigabyte + G.Skill = a nice machine that will keep the folks happy and me off the phone fixing a broken down PC

Cons: It's not an i7, but of course I didn't pay for an i7 either, so really there are no cons so far.

Rating + 5 Great Processor

Pros: Cheap quad core processor. Works great with Intel DP45SG motherboard.

Cons: The processor fan was somewhat difficult to install. The pins that go into the motherboard are plastic and break easily. I ended up getting it installed and tight, but it definitely took more time than I would have cared for.

Other Thoughts: While it was hard to install, the processor is working great and staying cool with no issues. The fan is quiet and I would definitely order another if the need arises.

Rating + 4 Great CPU but be sure your MB is compatible

Pros: Great price for 2.66gz quad. Its a Intel :D

Cons: 4mb L2 Cache. CPU compatibility with Mother Boards is limited.

Other Thoughts: This is a great processor but buyer beware. EVGA, XFX, and a few other Mother Boards aren't compatible with this processor. Asus and Gigabyte are compatible. This is why i gave it 4 eggs. Needs to have more support for this CPU. Gave me a headache in the beginning when trying to get it to work on a EVGA MB. It is now installed on a Gigabyte MB and works great!

Rating + 5 Hard working proc

Pros: Great processor, gets the job done.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I can not fully review this processor because I am not using it to its full potential. You see I am running Win XP SP3 and I had two shut down two of the cores so that it will run properly (take not if you are going down the same path). That said I am not upset because I am only using XP until Win 7 is released. That is when I will get to use the full power of my proc. However even with just two cores running my pc is still fast. I just finished beating Call of Duty World at War with no porblems. I constanly rip CDs and run Autocad programs with no hiccups. So bottom line If you want a puter that is not as expensive as the new ones but you still want a soild machine, then build a system with this processor.
P.S. I am not OCing my puter because 1) I dont need to and 2) I dont want to so I can not say anything about that either.

Rating + 5 What a Sweetheart

Pros: It is simply amazing to me that this mid-priced processor can overclock (@3.6GHz, +35%) like this with such little effort and low Vcore (and low bucks). Maybe some day I’ll play around and see what it can really do!

I also have an 8200 (@3.3GHz, +42%) that pound-for-pound is even better, except the 8400 has Virtualization Technology, the 8200 does not, and I wanted at least one system with it.

My main application is video editing and transcoding.

Pros: Very fast proccessor. Its a quad core and doesn't cost too much more than a dual. Comes with an easy overclocking utillity, just make sure you keep it cooled down enough.

Cons: The fan and heatsink that come with it aren't good enough to keep it cool. This processor runs very hot. While using high performance mode, mine would get from 70-100 degrees C! I put in a liquid cooling system for the cpu and now it runs at about 40-48 deg C.

Other Thoughts: Good processor, but unless you want to spend the extra cash on a liquid cooling system, I would go with something else.

Cons: This item is not listed as supporting Intel® Virtualization Technology in newegg's database. Rating + 4 In for 2

Pros: Picked up 2 of these for 2 gaming rigs I was making ( fiance wanted one too ). Trading up from an Athlon64 2.3ghz, the change was like night and day. This thing is quick. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit and the computer just flies.

I love having four cores. People say that a fast dual-core is still better for gaming than a slower quad-core but I love that I can multitask without worrying about performance. I'll usually be playing a game (WoW), ripping a DVD and transcoding with Handbrake all at once.

I tried overclocking the chip, and got it to 3Ghz easy. Its summer right now and the apartment is so warm already that I'd rather not run the chip so hot.

Cons: My biggest gripe about this chip is the included intel cooler. The new mounting system was designed to make the process easier but it seems it just made everything more of a pain. It was by far the hardest part of my build. If I knew the cooler was that hard, I would have bought an aftermarket cooler.

The cache is a bit small also, right now it doesn't seem too much of a performance hit, but its something to consider.

Other Thoughts: Overall, for the price it can't be beat. It support virtualization, if you're into that.

Rating + 5 Q8400

Pros: Eggcellent at photoshop. Handles everything much better than my old E6300 (the conroe one, not the pentium one). No overclock but no aftermarket cooler either. I am happy with it the way it is (for now).

Cons: The loss of L2 cache is only noticed in certain applications. Excel, file compression and a few others are where it is noticed (the q9550 is 20-60% faster in those chores).

Other Thoughts: Really you can't go wrong here... outperforms or equals 1st gen Q6600. Is within 10-15% of being a Q9550 in most apps... but that chip is 30-35% more in cost. Got this thing for an improvement in photoshop. It didn't disappoint. The core i7 920 is about 30-70% faster across the board in benchmarks... but you have to get new ram, mobo, etc....... This thing is sub 200 (by quite a bit) and fits many 775 boards (like the one I had for my conroe E6300).
AMD has a better chip in this price range for gaming, but that is mainly attributed to a higher stock clock speed. Clock for clock is a different story.

Pros: Great processor, fassssst. Install and go, no problem.

Cons: None really, if it's too expensive, there are cheaper alternatives.

Other Thoughts: Running this with 64-bit Kubuntu 9.04, everything works like a charm... love seeing gkrellm with "cpu0, cpu1, cpu2, cpu3". Stock fan seems adequate, doesn't run too hot. Of course, I built this system to replace my Duron 1.13.... so it's like getting a Ferrari to replace your Geo Metro. :)

Rating + 5 Very, very nice

Pros: This processor is amazing! I got it a few months ago for my very first build ever, and it runs great, handles a ton of applications running at once, and is pretty cheap to boot!

Cons: The stock cooler should be swapped before OC'ing, but I'm not really into that, so, not a huge issue for me. It does run a smidge hot at times, so if you're putting it under really heavy loads like Folding @ Home 24/7 you should certainly get a aftermarket cooler. The stock cooler also came with the smallest amount of thermal paste I've ever seen on a cooler, so I used some Arctic Silver I had on hand from modding my bro's HP.

Other Thoughts: All in all, this is a great CPU for the builder looking for a cheap and easy mid-range build.

Pros: Its Intel, its a Quad Core, It runs cool even @ 3.2ghz and its FAST!

Cons: Intel's Stock Heat-sink = PHAIL!

Other Thoughts: I have this beast in a ASUS P5Q Pro MB @ 3.2ghz

I'm running it under an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro but i have a 120mm, 150 CFM, PWM controlled fan I use behind it instead the 92mm that comes with it. On an ~85 degree Fahrenheit day the hottest core "core 0" wont go above 55C in Prime 95 (according to Real-temp 2.7)

All in all its an amazing cpu for the money and at 3.2Ghz its eat everything i throw at it and begs for more! I'm stressing just to see 75-80% cpu usage! =O

Rating + 5 perfect mid range 4 core chip.

Pros: Upgraded from a E6750 to this Q8400. The Q8400 is much faster in everyday use. The two extra cores take care of all the background processes, like virus scanning and wardware processes. Vista X64 runs flawless. OC'd to 3.2G, the Q8400 runs at 28C/MB at 31C using artic 7 cooler in an antec 900 case. This is 7 degrees cooler than my E6750 ran at 3.2g. It definitely increased the potential of my graphix 9800 GTX in FPS games, able to up the quality to max settings and maintain frame rates.

Cons: No cons to this chip, faster, cooler and overclockable.

Other Thoughts: Wall Power consumption, E6750, p35 MB = 538 watts.
Wall power consumption, Q8400, p45 MB = 408 watts.
My rig uses 20% less electricity with all same components, and is about 25% faster, while multitasking.
Using all the same components, just changes MB, CPU and MEM. GB-ep45-ud3r

Pros: Works fantastic, is priced reasonably, and came with pretty clear installation instructions.

Cons: Well... this is really a nitpick dealing with installation, but I feel like it deserves mention. The large heatsink and fan that come with the processor have horrible mountings. They're screwless, apparently in an attempt to ease installation with snap together speed, however this does not really work in practice. The flexibility of most motherboards makes clipping these in nigh on impossible and it took me forty minutes of messing around with it before I finally removed my motherboard to mount it.

Other Thoughts: Above problem is easily fixed by installing processor before placing motherboard in case. Otherwise it's an intel quad core processor, so what really is there to say?

Pros: Works great. It's a quad core. With the normal mostly office-type work I do with my machine, of course, it's hard to comment on the type of performance a real serious user may experience. I am however using Win Vista x64, and I frequently have 20+ word and powerpoint files open at any point in time, and the processor is certainly no weak link.

Cons: The stock fan gets a little loud when I really start slamming on the cores (but of course, nothing like what you might hear in a server closet).

Other Thoughts: I did not attempt to overclock it, used the stock fan, and I can't complain about anything.

Pros: Great performance. OC to 3g/fsb 1600 right out of the box w/stock hsf. Had it up to 3.2 but ran a little too hot for comfort. Running prime95 at 3.0 Real Temp peaked at 65c all 4 cores. If you want more speed, get an after market cooler.

Cons: Low multiplier. The hsf clips do take a lot of pressure to lock in place, but I like the very distinct click they make when they lock. Also found Q9400 locally for same price after tax. Put this in a friends build and got the 9400 for mine.

Other Thoughts: Low mult. makes you work a little harder to OC. Read a lot of complaints about hsf clips. Out of 5 installs, The only problem/complaint I have is the pressure it takes. Definitely mount before you install mother board. For some of you having problems with them popping loose, these are press lock not twist lock (you twist to "unlock"). Make sure they're turned the right way, press till you here them click and they will stay put.

Cons: Cooling fan is a little loud. However, I am not going to deduct an egg because I am judging this CPU on performance. That is what I bought this processor for.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend this processor to anyone who is looking for a fast and stable system capable of intensive multitasking. Newegg delivered this product along with several other products in a timely fashion (3 days) and packing material was excellent. Kudos newegg.

Rating + 5 Nice, but...

Pros: Processor performs in every way I'd expect it to. I have no desire, time or patience to overclock- running normally on an Intel board. Have the EXACT same setup with an older Q6600 right next to me- I can't see a real-world performance difference. I only bought this processor because it was the cheapest quad-core available at the time.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: Benchmarks don't mean a thing when you're crunching a 1.5GB graphics file in CS4. If you can find one of the older generation processors for cheaper, buy the older one... save the money.

Rating + 2 Disappointment

Pros: Decently fast processor, depending on what you're using it for.

Runs simple applications flawlessly.

Cons: Not the best choice for a chip as far as gaming or a high-ish end computer goes. Upgraded to the Q9550 for an extra 80 bucks and the difference is astonishing.

Rating + 5 Future-Proof

Pros: Multiple cores to handle extreme multitasking. Runs cool.

Cons: Most general purpose apps are not multi-threaded yet. 95W version, not 65W.

Other Thoughts: If you're like me you build a system every several years. I just replaced a Northwood 2.8/800 and I expect this system to hold out as long or longer.

Temp is 34C idle with a room temperature of 24C and a Zalman CNPS9500 heatpipe and Arctic Silver 5.

Rating + 3 Great Processor for the $, Bad Heatsink Design

Pros: Cost effective quad core, VT capable, runs cool with OEM heatsink

Cons: The heatsink took me the longest to install out of any component in my entire build. It was unbelievable how hard I had to push to get the pins to lock into the board. This dropped 2 eggs for me. It's clear the manufacturer put as little thought into the heatsink as possible. However, I will say it runs pretty cool.

Other Thoughts: For another 30$ I could have upgraded to a Q9xxx, which I don't regret personally, but is worth mentioning for other neweggers

Rating + 5 Works great, plenty fast

Pros: Fast, good overclocker, runs rather cool (30 degrees Ce. with a Zalman 9500). Works great with a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R.
It definitely DOES support VT, it shows up on my bios, and it's listed under specs on the Intel site.
Great CPU, couldn't be happier for the low price.

Cons: 4mb L2 Cache- It's not that low, it's just not that high, but the CPU still runs great with it.

Other Thoughts: Overclocked to 3.2 GHz, and loads up Photoshop in about 3 secs.
Great CPU for the price, if you want a good 600-800$ build, I strongly recommend this CPU.
Thanks Newegg :D

Rating + 4 Very Good CPU

Pros: Nicely and easily overclocked this cpu to 3.368 w/ an Asus P5K Deluxe (that's a p35)...very low temps at load (lower 40's)...Vcore less than 1.3. Quick snappy about 3.0; a bit slow, as they are, below 3.0.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I need to work w/ this chip some more, but, I'm very satisfied w/ the performance and price point right now ($169).

Rating + 5 A VERY Good Buy!

Pros: Currently running BOINC and being on the Internet and running fine. Mild OC to 3.013 (376X8). Temps at idle (RealTemp 3.00 = 39/39/41/39. PRIME95 Small FFT (24hr) peaks are 59/57/58/58 in a Shuttle SG31G2. This thing is only limited by my Mobo FSB. Runs cooler than my Q9450 (Freezer7 Pro in CoolerMaster 690 case) and my Q9650 (in another Shuttle SG31Gs. Does VT, regardless of what people said earlier. Great bang for the buck. Coolest running 45um C2Q I have used.

More proof that you DON'T need an i& or Q9650 to have fun and have a good build. (BTW, I have an i7, Q9450, and Q9650, and E8600 as well...so I am an accomplished GEEK.)

This thing will give you all you want...and the Cache is fine. Don't pay for what you cant' see, feel, eat, taste, or hear. This Quad is wonderful...the Q6600 for our time.

Get a great cooler (of course, you don't really need a "GREAT" one with this CPU) like the AC7 or V8.

Cons: It wasn't free.

It isn't an i7 or Q9650, BUT WHO CARES!!! HINT: YOU DON'T NEED AN i7 or Q9650!!! If you want one, go for it, but don't say you "need one." Don't be a marketer's dream!

Other Thoughts: In an age when everyone seems to be out to spend as much money as humanly possible on i7s, 12Gb RAM, Velociraptors, and 295GTX, it is nice to actually see people buying a VERY intelligent CPU like this one. My only worry is that Intel is going to get wise about CPUs like the Q8400, E6300 (new model), E5200/5400...and start limiting them or boosting the price. The day of "impressing people" with insane hot (literally) TRI-SLI specs is over, unless you are running Crysis on Ultra on the Jumbotron at Dodger Stadium. These CPUs are VERY powerful. In fact, I pulled a trick on a snob friend of mine. I first mounted this thing in my CM690 case (slopped an i7 sticker on it), with an ultra cheapie Gigabyte board ($60), and a 275GTX. I asked him to play with the machine for a while, but not to open it. His remarks? "Man, these i7s are the BEST!" He was amazed when I took the side cover off and called up CPUID. Yup, that "i7" was really a lowly Q8400, running at right about 4.0GHz! Thanks NewEgg

Rating + 5 Good value for the money

Pros: Faster quad core speed. Good quality with Low power consumption. I am not a pro gamer but do everything else including graphics designing, a lot of multitasking etc with little bit of gaming. Found it exceptionally good which is running cooler averaging 28C. I recommend this for any body who is willing to save money and like to get return for every penny.

Cons: Nothing

Rating + 5 Great CPU for the Price

Pros: Runs cool, Cheap, Quad core. SUPPORTS VT and SSE 4.1! Ignore the other "reviews".

Cons: 4mb cache.. AMD gives this class of Intel strong competion..

Other Thoughts: Stock HSF is sufficient for this CPU.

Rating + 5 AWSOME CPU!

Pros: great cpu, brought my fps up significantly, WORTH IT!! I upgraded from a 1.8 dual core oc'n to 2.1.

Cons: heatsink was a PAIN to install for me, once two clicks were in the other two were very rough.

Other Thoughts: BUY IT, RUNS LIKE A BEAST/CHAMP.

Rating + 3 Lot of power for low cost

Pros: Very good price for a quad that support VM.
Everything works as it should, that's a CPU :)

Cons: 95Watts for a CPU I think it is ridiculous at a period where everybody try to be careful with energy. The 8400s will come soon and should use "only" 65Watts.
As a CPU most of the time is IDLE I was looking at a Desktop CPU that use 10 Watts when IDLE but I can probably dream for very long time about this one.... as the latest CPU generation use 130watts. Maybe I should build a power plant for my next Desktop PC ... The fan Intel delivers with the CPU are always to noisy (cheap) that's now the first things I change when I get a CPU...

Other Thoughts: Intel is good with what they do and each time I tried another brand (as there is a lot of choice) :) I come back to Intel. I am just sad that Desktop CPU uses so much Watts just to stay awake at 1% usage. When there is no choice well guess what, you use what you find...

Rating + 5 Great Processor, low price.

Pros: As always, arrived quickly (Thanks Newegg). No problems with Installation. Has worked better than I had hoped. Price for performance.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Processor fans are always a pain to attach to motherboards. Its a quad core processor, so for anyone who doesn't know, you'll need to run a 64 bit (windows) OS, as 32 bit Operating systems only (that i know of) support up to two CPUs.

Rating + 5 Fast

Pros: Price point was good, speed is awesome, doesn't run too hot! 45nm is a plus to!

Cons: As with a lot of Intel CPUs, the included HSF is a pain to get it. Those 4 snap in pins are the biggest pain in the world.

Other Thoughts: According to Intel's website describing this CPU, it states that it in fact does support Intel VT-x, which is vitalization support, so I'm not sure what the other users are talking about. I run this with Windows 7 and XP VM no problem.
