It's alright. Expected more
Pros: Fast processor, good at multitasking, games run well, runs cooler than the QX9775 and 9770 extremes, can be air cooled (at low fan speeds) and easily overclocked without cranking up the volts too high. Installs easily into any X58 based motherboard, cooling solutions are easy to install as well. If you have the extra money, and are willing to spend it, it's an easy fast setup.
Cons: Maybe it's just me, but the performance difference between this and the last generation of processors doesn't seem to be that great. I am not a framerate jockey, I currently own 3 systems, one with a QX9770 one with a Phenom II X4 quad core black 3.2 ghz. And I don't really notice that much of a difference in performance running the same graphics cards, (Gtx 295) and RAID 0 configured hard drives. I recently built a system for a customer with an overclocked QX9660 (oc'd to 3.6 GHZ) Ran only a bit slower.
With all of the hype I thought it'd be significantly different and better (like the jump from single to dual core) but it isn't.
Other Thoughts: For the average guy or gal, probably not worth it. I am running it, overclocked to 3.8 GHz, and have yet to really see a substantial performance difference. Running the same games on all of the afforementioned systems at 1920x1200 res, high graphics settings on crysis, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Oblivion, and Saints row 2, I was still able to achieve 55 fps or better.. Which is all I really care about - a decent gaming experience.
I'd either wait for the next thing (my processor is already outdated by the 975) or if you just want the X58 architecture or FX790 just get one of the cheaper processors and overclock it.
I saw a few other reviews, and yeah, I agree, it sure isn't 1000 dollars worth of performance. specs of main machine below
Aeon - i7 extreme 965 oc'd to 3.8, dual velociraptors in raid 0, 6 matched triple channel dominator corsair 1600mhz DDR3, GTX 295 red edition, toughpower 1200 watt ps X58

Totally worth it
Pros: This chip rocks! I don't know what people are thinking saying they get minimal system performance boosts. I changed from an Intel Dual core Preslor chip running at 3.4 800mhz fsb. This chip blows that away. Those who say a GPU upgrade only is what is needed to get your computer to work well only have half the idea. If you have a dual core that is newer perhaps then you should wait, but for me this was a good change
Cons: I guess the price, mine was $805 from an online auction, not really a con for me, I had the money.
Other Thoughts: The install was a breeze, there are no pins on the bottom of the chip to bend, the CPU only fits one way in the socket, and with ample air cooling you can get over 4GHZ easy. There is no need however, with 3 gb ddr 3, pny 260 and the chip running at stock speeds, I have all the power I need.

Great CPU
Pros: Its intel. They are the best CPU chip manufacturer out there and their CPUs are really great. No need to over clock this. I mean 4 cores very awesome indeed.
Cons: I haven't had experience with it running hot, but for some of the supposedly CPU demanding applications I run, the fan and heat sink serve their purpose.

Decent CPU
Pros: Solid CPU. Runs 4.06GHz @ 1.375 vcore. Temps under 70 deg w/swiftech watercooling. Best cpu there is for FSX because of the available memory multipliers to run any RAM you want at any speed regardless of the bclock.
Cons: No better clocking potential then the i7 920 D0. Best I can do on the P6T Deluxe is just under 4.1GHz. Anything beyond starts to get unstable. Similar results all over the web. Recently got Rampage II Gene and will try again for higher clocks. But i7 920 D0 will clock higher for 1/3 the cost, it just doesn't have the memory multipliers.
Other Thoughts: Previous poster: Do your reviews before you make a condescending and childish remark like that. The i7 975 is showing no better results than the 965 (Anandtech). Anyone with a 965 has nothing to fret about because once clocked they're pretty much the same.

975 out in 3 days..
Pros: great cpu
Cons: runs hot
Other Thoughts: It sucks for those of you who bought one of these recently.. the 975 goes on the market in 3 days for the same price as these.. should have done your research before purchasing.

Whoa!
Pros: This puppy went into a Asus Rampage II Gene and it screams: I was able to OC very easily with the stock CPU cooler running at 3.7 GHz. There is no stuttering at all everything is smooth. I am also using Windows 7 with this i7-965 and I couldn't be happier.
Cons: None...
Other Thoughts: The system I put together here also uses OCZ DDR3 12 GB Kit at 1333 MHz (can be OCed too), MSI GTS 250 video card, and with the Asus 24" Widescreen monitor...

WOW
Pros: DEPENDS. If you have a PC with RAM, GRAPHICS, and the rest of the bells and whistles this is the chip. You can not get this type of power from anouther chip unless you do not have the rest of the computer.
I tried other chips in the computer, I do not recomend it because it is time consuming, but you will see the difference.
Cons: ... It is expensive, but I had to for the rest of the computer

Its a Monster!
Pros: Untouchable! Its a beast and will hold unreal clock speeds paired with the right board (evga classified), the right ram, and the knowledge to do so without burning anything up. this chip wont be touched for a few years. not until the release of the 35 NM agriculture which isn't going to be for a few years. Thus you don't have to worry about something faster hitting the market 2mara. It's well worth the money.
Cons: Takes some money to keep it cool but with a small pletier and an after market air cooler, you can get up to 4.2-4.5.
Other Thoughts: If you have been eying this chip just haven't brought yourself to dropping 1k on it... do it anyway! you will be happier in the long run.

Overall, satisfied
Pros: unlocked multiplier. makes life a little easier. holds a decent overclock of 4.2ghz running 30 instances of Linx 0.5.8 which is enough to be sure you have a stable overclock. 4ghz on air 24/7 should be no problem.
Cons: price... i should have got the 920 and just suffered with the locked mulitplier. had the cash at the time, so .... you know how it is.
Other Thoughts: im very pleased with the ability to oc these to nearly double on simple water or air. water is the obvious choice unless you like the sound of a hairdryer in your den.

Flawless Processor
Pros: This is truly the peak of the Intel chips, and it knocks amd out of the park (and thats an understatement).
Many of the negative reviewers are obviously amd fans who have probably never owned this chip at all.
Cons: Isn't cheaper?
Other Thoughts: Only for the true hardcore gamer/pc builder. For this price you could build a relatively fast pc, or a poor quality amd pc. LOL. But for those who need the bragging rights, and the best product available get this. You won't find better. Oh and the 8mb of L3 cache helps a lot, for those who compared this to the quad and thought it didn't make a difference, they obviously had a poor rest of the pc in the first place, because YES it makes a big difference.
My suggestion to the average buyer however- save your money until the next cpu comes out and then you can buy this for about half the price.

is this compatible with the new Mac Pro's?
Pros: This isn't a review, but a question
Cons: none yet
Other Thoughts: I am interested in purchasing a mac pro oct core system and upgrading the CPU's to two of these if this is compatible. Can anyone verify for me if this is doable? Or is the socket incompatible? They are both i7 slots but according to Apples site the processors they use are Xeon. This doesn't bother me if this is a workable upgrade. Any insight would be much appreciated

Best desktop CPU you can get!
Pros: I wrote my initial impressions some months ago, but this proc is just too juicy to not to poor on the accolades. OC to 4.2 GHz on air no problems, barely had to add voltage, running at 1.38 V right now. Could go higher but I am not a voltage fiend.
Cons: The i965 comes with a high price tag, but as I pointed out before, if you are eyeballing this proc then most likely money is not your issue. For the budget folks the i920 can OC well as well, and you can set multipliers for mem and QPI, though tweaking Bclock to get CPU clocks up is a bit trickier.
Other Thoughts: Some of the 1/2 star postings are most definitely out of their mind, most likely trolling fanboys.

Insane Overclock
Pros: This thing is insane. Overclocked to a menacing speed of 5.6. Yes 5.6 no typo. This thing runs hot. Even though we were using some R&D Non conductive liquid, taht we submerged the entire mobo in. Keeping the tank cool at -100 C. It still heated up to -20. The system was stable, but we don't know how long it would of been. Home use probably shouldn't over clock above 4.5 with liquid cooling.
Cons: Price.

4.0 Ghz with no problems
Pros: 4.0 Ghz at 68 degrees Celc. under stress loading. Impressive! Can easily OC even more, but I won't risk 1K.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I've thrown away the noisy and ineffective stock cooler and installed liquid cooling coming with Gigabyte 3D mercury Pro.

i7 965
Pros: Very very fast. I haven't seen it slow down yet. Easy to overclock if you want to, but it really isn't necessary because it is so powerful on stock settings. I've had it up to 4.0 gHz with no problems, but stock is enough for my everyday usage, so I leave it there.
Cons: The price, but that is only stating the obvious. Runs a little warm, so be sure you have a good cooler.
Other Thoughts: Probably not worth the price premium for most, but if you're willing to pay, go ahead. Since it is so obviously a premium product, I can't ding the rating based on that. Intel will be coming out with a more powerful chip soon (the 975), but then they are always coming out with new stuff. So based on pure power and performance it gets five eggs. Recommended.

Why Overclock the 965 EE??
Pros: Answer: Because you can :) With the unlocked mulitplier you can approach your OC from different directions, and tune your system to the task at hand. Pure adrenaline tweaking for the bots and the benches.
Cons: Pricey.. not for everyone. Whatyoudontwanttoknow will never know :( What can a 965 do that a 920 can't - how about 4.7ghz on water for starters?
Other Thoughts: The 965 is an overclockers dream chip, maybe AMD came up with the thoughts first, but they sure don't execute like Intel does. When this bad boys goes to D stepping it's gonna be get out of the way or get run over. Tri Sli 285s already in the box, 2000mghz Dominator Gt's be here by Tuesday ;) ... and at least spell my name right if you're gonna dis me man. Ok?... cool :)

"Loading please wait" is in the past!
Pros: Increadibly fast, hard working. No such thing as "loading...... please wait."
Cons: NONE!!!!!
Other Thoughts: I upgraded from a socket 775 3.0 single core to this chip and all I can say is, "I can't keep up"! I've read some of the reviews in this CPU, so I have to ask this question. WHY ARE YOU OVERCLOCKING?!?! Overclocking is used for when you processor can no longer run programs as smoothly as you want them or if you just need it to go a little bit faster as you save for something better, and for all those who are just playing the games, what kind of stupid are you? I make full length CG games and movies which requires 1000 time more data processing than your precious wanna be graphics like F.E.A.R, and I don't need to overclock this baby, why do you have this need? Please tell me. Only thing you're doing is wearing out is work of art to a early grave.

BEAST
Pros: Excellent platform. Speed to heat ratio is bearable, but i dont see it with watercooling. I get 98F at load. Programs run great. Worth 1000, not 1030. Intel tried to squeeze a bit more than they needed to.
Cons: None really. I wish that there were more boards that supported the i7. Even when Core2 came out there were tons of boards. I'm overseas, so i had to settle with Gigabyte.
Other Thoughts: i7XE with Gigabyte EX58-UD4P Up to 4.2GHz @ 1.4v Highest 3dMark Vantage (3x GTX 260): 29868

Got Cash?
Pros: Very fast....
Cons: Price....Its on the HOT side so make sure you get a high-end heatsink ex: V8,V10, Dark Knight etc... Or just go ahead and watercool since you already spent a grand....
Other Thoughts: Personally I dont fall for these In-tel schemes... I own both the i7 920 and the Phenom II x4 940 and I love both..They are almost identical and to tell ya the truth the Phenom overclocks better (less heat) but of course the 920 is a tad faster. Do yourself a favor and buy either the i7 920 or the x4 940 and overclock to your taste.. You will have extra cash to spend on that tri-sli setup you have always wanted and still have cash left for some juicy ddr3 ram..
Dont understand In-tels strategy to slap an EE logo on their box and make peeps believe that they are getin what they paid for...Now if you are rich and didnt feel the effect of the economy then go ahead and buy this chip...Otherwise be smart and save up for parts that will really make a difference.

So what can this thing do that a i7 920 can't?
Pros: Core I7 is the best cpu platform out there!!
Cons: Price. You can get a 920 for a fraction of the price and overclock easily to 4.0 ghz. And remember when you overclock you're overclocking your QPI speeds to so you will surpass this proc easily on a 920. This processor may only surpass the 920 by a few hundred mhz. It's not worth an extra 800 dollars for something that has no effect in real world performance.
Other Thoughts: Get the 920. Don't listen to Maddogg or anyone else. They sound like they don't know much about overclocking or tech stuff.

Just a little tip
Pros: I love this chip, very fast but ....
Cons: Intell dose not give you alll the specifications about it, like what is the maximum frequency for DDR3 memory when used with Intel Core i7 desktop processors, These processors support DDR3 memory with a maximum frequency of 1066 MHz. If faster DDR3 memory is used (such as 1333 MHz or 1600 MHz), it will be down-clocked to operate at 1066 MHz, wow right DDR3 1066 is cheap get 12GB or more if your mother board supports it, you can look this up off Intell's web page. I wish I knew this before I went out and bought DDR3 1866 @ $400.00 what a waste of memory.

Pure Pleasure
Pros: Flexible, responsive, FAST. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.. I've had this bad boy up to 4.7ghz on water (so far). You'll fall in love with this proc - it's worth every penny
Cons: Runs on the hot side, expecially when OC'ing, but all that really means is you can't use the stock HSF that comes in the box. This CPU should definately be water cooled unless you're happy at 3.2ghz.
Other Thoughts: People like to say a 920 can do anything a 965 can't. They say that because they didn't spend the extra $$ and have to convince themselves it's true. The 920 cannot do what the 965 does although the 920 is still a nice proc.

Wicked Sick
Pros: Speed - fastest on the market - probably for the next year or two. Choose over i7-940 because of the 6.4GHz QPI (makes a big difference). Spend the extra and get this premium quality processor.
Cons: WARNING: Be careful with DRAM voltage (Do not exceed 0.5V over Vcore for DRAM due to the inbuilt memory controller on the i7) - or you can fry your processor.
1.6V DRAM is close to maximum - anything over will shorten the lifespan of your processor.
Other Thoughts: This thing is WICKED SICK - games and large apps run without delay on this thing and at highest settings. This CPU is too beautiful by itself to overclock - would hate to fry an expensive CPU like this.

soak it up
Pros: very fast cpu
Cons: price and the company who makes it
Other Thoughts: stop and think seriously think about where intel gets their new technology from............... AMD. Intergrated memory controller and 64 bit technology both comes from AMD so for those who bash said company well your r-tarded. AMD holds the patents on the new Technology Intel uses and intel is trying to cancel AMD's right to make x86 cpu's so that means AMD pulls those rights from Intel so all of you who jumped aboard the i7 boat will sink because no one will support updates so good luck

Awsome Speeds
Pros: Excellent CPU - Fastest thing out there. Lives up to its name. With the unlocked multiplier I had it OC'd to 4.1GHz in under an hour. My CPU was very stable, very predictable with decent voltages on OC. The Quad Core with HT makes any multi-threaded app roll over and beg. Converting full length movies from full size to iPhone MP4 in 8 minutes flat. I can run it at 3.8GHz on air with low voltages for a great 24x7 op. Woot!
Cons: * Price, but if you can afford it its all you. * If you cant afford it, a 920 can easily OC to 3.5-4.0 * The stock cooler is a token gesture. Dont even attempt it. Get a good cooler and you wont be sorry.
Other Thoughts: If you are used to OC'ing older model Intels with a FSB, you will need to get familiar with the onboard memory controller settings, and the BCLK instead of FSB, but its not that big of a deal. And if your planning on pushing past 4GHz you will likely need water cooling.

CPU for the trust fund babys
Pros: Best CPU out as of this moment anyway not saying this will be true tommarow.
Cons: 1k for a cpu is plain and simple for those with the trust fund check coming in each month for free with nothing better to spend it on.
Other Thoughts: Buy this today for 1K resell it next week and get half becuase a new cpu came out so its no longer enough for you again. and repeat with next months free check on the 3rd one. again repeat etc.

Blazing fast
Pros: Fastest CPU out there. Totally unlocked, and overclockers dream.

Fast and steady
Pros: The Core i7 965 EE is the fastest chip I've ever seen. Rock steady performance. Flawlessly runs any game I throw at it.
Cons: The i7 965 runs hot and the factory cooler is inadequate. I'm using the Cooler Master V8 CPU cooler with Arctic Silver 5 in a Cooler Master Cosmos S RC1100 case with six 120mm fans, one 200mm fan and one 80mm fan. Ambient temp in the room is about 72F. With all this air flow this CPU still idles at around 36C. It hits 60C on a full load.

Way Too Cool
Pros: Very fast and very cool. Runs everything I can think of to throw at it. Sony Vegas 9 rocks on it, So does Adobe CS4. Multi tasking is too incredible. Well worth every penny I spent on it.
Cons: Yeah Right!
Other Thoughts: I am going to buy another one to set on my desk just to look at.

Excellent CPU
Pros: This chip screams when paired with the Rampage II Extreme motherboard. Running at stock speed with factory heatsink/fan and have had zero problems.
Cons: Extremely expensive but if you have the cash you cannot do wrong by this CPU.
Other Thoughts: Well worth the cost if gaming's your vice.

The true differance between the i7 920 and 965 XE
Pros: The 2.93 GHz Core i7-940 is the performance option, while the 2.66 GHz Core i7-920 provides a entry point for interested buyers. All three Core i7 processors will have a TDP of 130W. The clock speed is the obvious difference between the three Core i7 processors, but it goes a bit deeper. Naturally, the Core i7-965 Extreme Edition will have "overspeed protection removed" (an unlocked multiplier), but the QuickPath Interface speed will also differ. The Core i7-965 XE will have a full speed 6.4 GT/s link, while the Core i7-940 and -920 feature a lower 4.8 GT/s interface speed. Supported DDR3 speeds also change depending on the model.
Cons: $Price$
Other Thoughts: You can overclock the hell out of a 920 or pay the money!

Not worth it
Pros: It is the fastest processor on the market as of right now, when comparing all of them at stock speeds.
Cons: All this processor is, is a i7 920 overclocked by Intel with a unlocked multiplier. The overclocking I can do myself, so what am I paying the extra $700 for? An unlocked multiplier? No thanks.
Other Thoughts: Do yourself and your wallet a favor and get the i7 920 over this. Overclocked, a i7 920 will be just as fast as this without the $700 price premium.
Don't fall for Intel's dirty money grubbing schemes. Get this, and you'll be bashing your head asking yourself why you spent so much money on it when the 32 nm Nehalems come out.

For people with more money than common sense
Pros: To say that it's fast is an understatement. It's the fastest chip ever made. Being quad-core with Hyperthreading, it's perfect for games using the Unreal Engine 3, which is known for being extremely heavily multi-threaded.
Cons: Hot: 130W power dissipation
Quad-core: Windows XP Professional can only utilize two cores. If you want to utilize all 4 cores, you'll have to downgrade to Vista, a godawful hell-spawned piece of Satanware that double-guesses your every action and makes you spend a half-hour looking for compatibility fixes on Google every time you want to use a program.
EXPENSIVE: This thing is almost twice as expensive as the second-fastest Intel chip, and less than 10% faster. It's also more than four times as expensive as AMD's top chip, and only 10% faster than that one, too. This is, of course, not counting the fact that the motherboard and RAM for the AMD platform would also be much less expensive.
Other Thoughts: This chip is exclusively for people who absolutely, positively, must have the #1 fastest chip in the world, no matter how much it costs. If that's you, great! But for the rest of us, something that's only a fraction of the cost but almost as fast is the better choice.
Side note: If you're willing to be patient, the 3.06ghz and 3.33ghz parts are coming in Q2 of '09.

Pros: This thing is fast, i mean like nothing i've ever seen. this is the first time i've bought a top of the line CPU and i don't regreat it. I've always bought midrange CPU's and overclocking them but with this CPU no need to and system is stable.
Cons: NONE.

Worthwhile to all types of buyers from the casual to the hardcore elitists!
Pros: Absolutely great processor! Right off first base the processor runs blazingly fast. A thousand dollars may seem like a lot but when it comes to your processor it's by far worthwhile. The processor is in a sense the heart of your computer, and everyone wants a strong, healthy heart - right?
The efficiency of the processor is amazing; even when over-clocking to 3.4-3.6 the stock fan is able to easily handle keeping the processor cool. Furthermore, the i7 processors are designed to efficiently use tri-channel DDR3 RAM; another huge plus!
So given the above, this is certainly an enthusiast's processor, right? Isn't it a bit much for the casual consumer?
Yeah.. Okay, it's a bit much. Most people could probably get away with dropping down a few pegs on the processor scale. Hell, to make a processor like this pull it's weight you'd need to spend quite a bit of money! Read on in the next two sections as to why this isn't necessarily a bad thing, and why the casual consumer isn't left
Cons: The major downside to this kind of processor isn't the price of the processor itself, but rather the other components needed to make a processor like this truly pull the weight it's worth. You'd need fairly fast DDR3 RAM (Ideally with a CAS Latency of 7-7-7-24, or as close to if not faster than that. Remember, the lower the CAS Latency means the faster your will be able to do it's job! Check Wikipedia for a more in-depth explanation or email one of the major RAM manufacturers for an even better explanation! :) )
Think of it like this: To use this kind of processor to it's fullest potential you would need a -very- fast hard drive capable of writing a lot of data. The 10,000 RPM Hard Drives or the Solid-State Drives (SSD) would do this well. You would need to fork over around $300 for a strong current-gen motherboard. Another $250 for high-quality RAM. Of course for gamers, that also means a $400-600 graphic card and to protect your investment.. A $250 power supply. Yeouch! But wait!
Other Thoughts: Speed: 5/5 Power Consumption: 4/5 Overclock Performance: 5/5 Cooling: 5/5 Price: 4/5 (Worth the Cost!) Investment Value: 5/5
Final Thoughts:
Games, Graphical Applications and other such software rely heavily on the processor; more than most people realize. If there is anything you would want to spend an exuberant amount of money on, it's your processor.
So given the above, this is certainly an enthusiast's processor, right? Well, the casual computer user isn't left too far behind. Think of it like this: Spend about $500 more on a high-end motherboard and power supply and then spend $300-500 on a lower-end graphic card, hard drive, and RAM. Will the processor pull it's weight with a rig like that? No, BUT! It will leave plenty of room for future upgrades so your computer will last a long, long time.
Now remember! Given what I said above about this making your computer an expensive buy.. that's not entirely true at all! A more casual consumer could search around and buy

Such a good idea
Pros: Absolutely a great buy, I know it's pricey, but it's very easy to justify upgrading other components on a new computer, but upgrading a cpu is a big step. I decided to splurge on the cpu first and foremost and it was a great step and will prove to be a valuable investment down the road.
Cons: Price, but worth it. Screaming fast.

Pros: Well before you kick my but, letsssay elf witch, and take it easy, BUT BE FOREWARNED. I like to play vid games for sport know any?
Back to the point I'm hyperactive and getting a phenom 3k SPeED, 2gb of 9800. You just might choke on your words.
Im using a 2200k phenom 1 now,and its good, but its buggy; I rebuilt a hp out of the box; original hp wouldnt even start. This rig better polish the fenders of my car (and it doesnt exist). Is intel smokin?
Phenom 1 2200k on hp has been prety **** sweet fwiw
I did hellgote at 1024 res or so full with a 2200 phenom one and i ruled it and have massive fun and effects.
Cons: Oi oi meet me in Warhammer, Im Frose!!! chaos! taerun frose, magus extreme. Chaos.

Pros: Fast Great value for the dollar With my third party CPU cooler and thermal compound runs very cool
Cons: Having trouble OCing to a stable 4.0 (at 3.5 currently) BCLK doesn'y seem to want to go as high as others have said it will

I'm in Love
Pros: Unlocked clock, HT Quad core. What more would you need to know? Overclocks like a bat out of heck but gets HOT. Don't even think of OC'ing one of these without a good water cooling setup. So long as you keep it cool, it laughs at anything you throw at it :)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Likes to eat electricity, and runs on the hot side, but so long as you respect it, it performs like an artist. I have mine on an ASUS Rampage II Extreme - they make an unbeatable combination!

fast.. fast... and oh yeah, fast
Pros: Quad core, with hyper threading, at 3.2GHz stock, does it get any better than this? Oh yeah of course, its an EE so the multiplier is not locked so just run it faster than 3.2GHz of course. Also natively supports 1600MHz DDR3 (on the right mobo) so no playing around with settings to get that to work.
Cons: none except maybe price, but if $1000 is too much for a processor for you why are you reading this?

Incrediebly fast
Pros: Read the specifications, absolutely what you get. Perfect power with the same amount of watt and heat in the market. Test a lot of pure rough games such as Crysis, World at War, Mirror's Edge and etc with the lastest GTX 285. The CPU won't let you down.
Cons: The price but, it is a core extreme, so its for geared for more high end users
Other Thoughts: Still handles PhysX with a lot of lag, low framerates and etc. The physic engine is new so it will take some time..

WOW!
Pros: Free shipping & a free game! Cutting edge technology. Comes with a huge heatsink, but the stuff they use to conduct the heat (heatsink compound) is garbage. We scraped it off & used ZALMAN ZM - STG1 Thermal Compound (good stuff!). We didn't want to take a chance on a failure caused by poor cooling. On the positive side, the copper & aluminum heatsink is all you'll need. This processor runs very cool, 26-36C.
Cons: On the expensive side, but that's to be expected. The heatsink compound is garbage & should be replaced as I noted above.
Other Thoughts: This will be the processor on my son's Ultimate Gaming Computer. You don't need to overclock this processor! The Memtest86+ results put other processor to shame...:)

Just wow
Pros: Fastest cpu at time of writing. I got mine as the heart of my first truly leading edge computer for myself since 1997. The QPI is the thing to set it apart from other Intel processors. I got mine for gaming, but as an administrator by day I can only imagine how well this cpu would perform in a server acting as a virtual machine host. The potential bandwidth of QPI puts it in a whole different league than any Intel cpu ever. It combines the advantages that AMD has had with Hypertransport with Intel's clock speed.
Cons: pfft
Other Thoughts: Running Vista 64 on 6GB. I will not be using antivirus or antimalware of any sort natively so I can enjoy full performance. Instead I intend to run XP in a virtual machine for potentially hazardous Internet activity. Give XP 2 cores and 3GB and it will run just fine.

ugh....
Pros: Ok, i bought this at a local store, and set it next to a buddys comp with your favorite amd chip
Turns out that a 20% faster card isn't worth 800$ more to me.
Cons: Price is all! intel still makes great cards, but i will always be a amd fan because theres no point in the best intel will toss at us....
For the games that are out, my amd will tear them a new .. well.... Intel could do it better if there was any thing to beat.. if im doing it perfectly and ur doing it perfectly and im saving 800$ i do believe ive won
So seriously consider this, if i can run every game out at 100% max settings and so can you, yet i paid 270$ for my processor and you paid well over a grand, WHY!?
Clearly bragging rights, no other reason
Other Thoughts: Newegg is amazing, i bought it at a shop because i had no intention on keeping this thing, Just wasn't in my mind or my pocket, intel lovers can spend top dollar, amd lovers can spend a low premium and still do it up very nicely
Not doggin you guys and im sure you will Female dog about my comment, but seriously, consider that you wasted the money.

Pros: * This thing is fast. I mean really fast. I have no idea why anyone would want to overclock this except if their warranty gets voided or runs out (overclocking would do this anyway). A 3D DirectX 9.0c game released in 2007 uses 2% of the total CPU power. Half-Life 2 and mods use about 13%. Even on applications that don't support multiple cores, 3.2 GHz with hyperthreading is not something to sneeze at.
* 64 bit.
* 4 physical / 8 logical cores.
Cons: * The stock cooling fan might not be enough for you. I personally have a V8 cooler (huge) with no problems although that's not really saying much on stock speeds.
* Really expensive, but probably worth it if you don't want to void your warranty overclocking.
Other Thoughts: If you're looking for the absolute fastest CPU you can get, this is it. Any AMD chips out right now cannot compete with this.

Its fast, duuh
Pros: Big honkin fan, but its quiet.
Cons: Not sure what temp its supposed to run at, Intel hasn't printed stats yet :(
Other Thoughts: I never overclock, even a single lockup isn't worth it as my (and probably your) bottlenecks are always IO related anyway.

Fastest CPU available right now
Pros: This is the fastest CPU available right now. It's noticeably faster than my X2 4400. It's quick. And speedy. And it has extensive power management features so maybe you'll save a few $$ on power
Cons: Expensive
With the stock Intel cooler, cores go to about 85C when all active.. the CPU doesn't seem to mind, but.. 85C? Wow
Intel's 'push pin' heatsink mounting design is more complicated than it should be.. I suppose they went with it because screws would require having the motherboard free of the case, but .. wow.. I bent one of the pins whilst trying to figure out how the nutty little fella worked, luckily these nylon pegs are strong like a bear and I just bent it back, the point is, it's a freakin heatsink, it should be easy to mount
BUT, if one were to have the motherboard free while using the pins, I'm sure it would be easy.. just keep in mind that you need a pretty good amount of pressure because the inner pins bend out the outer sheath and the sheath really doesn't want to expand, PUSH PUSH PUSH
Other Thoughts: The 965 easily handles every game I've thrown at it so far.. I'm waiting for a better heatsink before overclocking, but if the CPU doesn't mind being at 85C then I can see huge potential.. if it's not fast enough for you already.. I'm thinking around 700 GHz

Awesome CPU
Pros: Very fast. Built a new box (ASUS P6T, I7-965, 6GB DDR3 @ 1600, WD Velociraptor) running Vistax64. This is the most responsive computer I have ever had. A true pleasure to use. Very overclockable and runs stable at moderate OC on stock heat sink, currently at 3.83GHz and I haven't tried to go higher and I am sure I could.
Cons: Costly. But you gotta pay to be on the bleeding edge.
Other Thoughts: I build a new box about every 3 years. This was by far the easiest and fastest build and I am very happy with the result. Although easy to get moderate OC, I do not notice the performance difference. OCing just is not necessary. If you have the money to treat yourself to a great new rig, this is the CPU to get.

Pros: Fast!
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I am using the Thermalright Extreme 1366 RT cooler. The cpu runs at around 88F uisng Arctic Silver 5.

Awesome
Pros: Great proc and a complete joke to overclock. Change multi to 30 and you have 4ghz(no other changes needed). With stock cooler you get 30c at idle and 40-55c on load at 4ghz.
Cons: First one was acting funky so RMA'd. New one has no issues. Doesnt lose any eggs though considering how rare it is to get a bad cpu.
Other Thoughts: Core I7 965EE, Asus P6T Deluxe, CM HAF case, 6gb Dominators, ToughPower 1200, 4870X2 gpu, 2 x VRaptor Raid 0, 1 x WD640, Vista 64bit.

Great hardware
Pros: Well this is some great hardware...
Cons: Quad core processors are not ready for use in that vast majority of the programs your using. programs are good for dual core but multi threading for more than 2 cores isn't happening.
Other Thoughts: Buy this processor in 2 years when it is going to be used to its full potential

WHOA!!!
Pros: I bought this from a local computer store, and I have to say this thing is "slap in the face" fast to the point where is leaves a fat red mark on your face! The speed it just unbelievable, games like crysis, COD4, Left 4 Dead run so smooth that AMD fans wish there little phenom 2s could performe like this baby does.
Cons: I got this for $999 from the store i bought it from, kind of pricey but WELL WORTH IT! If you have a $1,000 to spend on a processor GET THIS!! I have to add that AMD makes great processors, but how dare there fans try to compare the new phenom 2s the i7 extreme. Even with the arguement of price there is no competition.
Other Thoughts: AMD has NOTHING on intel at this point. Maybe they have better prices, but for what intel put outs and performs, i'd rather spend the extra money. In this case think of the phenom 2s as a nice looking red corvette and the core i7 as a F16 fighter jet! Keep dreaming AMD fans =)

obliterates teh competition
Pros: unmatched, fastest thing on the market that money can buy, there is nothing faster. end of story
Cons: AMD fan boys thinking an OCed 275 dollar chip can keep up with it boy are they lost and in denial, so stop crying little fan boys and except the fact that your proc is still only second best if that, and stop leaving little fan boy reviews in the wrong section of a product you probably don't own
Other Thoughts: there is a reason this processor cost 4 times as much as the phenom 2 940 its because no matter how you fold it its 4 times faster than the phenom 2 940

Never spending this much again
Pros: Performs well but not $1000 well
Cons: 1st one came DOA. The 2nd one that came barely showed any improvement over my old quad core. So I decided I am done. I went ahead and bought the AMD Phenom II x4 940 for $275. I overclocked it to 4GHZ on air and it performs just as well. Saved me over 800 dollars.

Fast, Fast, Faster
Pros: This is probable the fastest I've ever seen a computer perform. Very efficient. Couldn't get any app I threw at it to use more then 30~40% of it's processing time so there was plenty of potential left.
Cons: um, yeah, it's expensive but people should know that coming in. As usual, the stock heat sink is barely adequate.
Other Thoughts: Inevitable some AMD backer will post some non-sense about the price and claim AMD has some equal CPU's. They DO NOT. If these were cars, the best AMD chip would be like a Toyota Corrolla and the Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 965 would be a Ferrari.

amd quad core 3.00GHZ
Pros: Well AMD is somewhat right there with Intel @$275 3.00GHZ quad core overclock to 4.00GHZ VS. $1300 3.2 GHZ I7 quad core. You do the math.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: AMD good job and excellent price

It's like the Bugatti Veyron of CPUs
Pros: It's the fastest commercial processor ever. Need I say more? I can max it out; Prime95 does it of course but I do lots of Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations which pegs the meter no problem. Still, you can't possibly go faster without going to a server farm workstation. OC'd to 3.6GHz no problem, Vigor Monsoon III keeps the temps 30-60 C.
Cons: It won't make you more attractive to women. I know what you're thinking, but it won't work. Take a shower and be polite, it's not as hard as it seems. Also, the arrow to line up the CPU and the socket needs to be more obvious.
Other Thoughts: Don't complain about price. That's like buying the fastest car in the world and saying "the price is way out of line with other cars" DUH! Considering what this thing is capable of, I think it is priced in line with it's value. I never thought I'd see the day that a CPU came with a stock heat sink that's freaking 6" across! Oh the crazy days we live in. I can't wait until CPUs come with a stock water block, it'll happen!

The sweet smell of speed!
Pros: No need to OC. Haven't found anything to tax it yet.
Cons: Absolutely none.
Other Thoughts: Paired with the Asus P6T Deluxe, 6GB of Corsair Dominator 1600, Corsair 850W PS, and the Asus AHD4750X2 all in the HAF932 and this thing just rocks. Put the Zalman ZNPS9700 cooler on with the cheap mod bracket and temps are 32/58 idle/load. A lot less than my Core2Duo X6800 did with the Termaltake Big Typhoon on the Intel D975XBX at 42/72. I can't see anything I play that will really push this thing to the edge. No need to OC at all.

Fast Processor
Pros: Runs all programs without a hitch. I only have it running at 3.9gig on air but have had motherboard issues.
Cons: I wish the price was redused about 50%.
Other Thoughts: if you already have a core 2 Duo you probably don't need to up grade. Luckily I have a son who needed an upgrade so I gave my QX9650 to him.

Unnecessarily Amazing.
Pros: Ok this is an obnoxious processor, and we're all well aware of that. To all of you complaining about your CPU Temps: Shame on you for air cooling your $1000 investment. Running 12C idle 23C under full load with my Danger Den Liquid/TEC Cooling system. If you're going to invest this much money into a part, protect your investment. Watercooling is a MUST for parts performing under this much temperature stress, and if you have an extra $150 get a 226w TEC Peltier from Dangerden.
Temps with just watercooling were 28/40C but adding in the TEC droped temps to 12/23C. Don't let your processor be the only next-gen part in your computer, you need to build with all parts of the same calibre.
Cons: Price, of course. Total rig cost: $5801. Worth every penny as I wont have to drop a dime for the next few years. EVGA x58 motherboard (Plus NB waterblock) $349 3x GTX280 graphics cards (+3 waterblocks) $1652 core i7 3.2ghz extreme edition (+waterblock and TEC) $1385 12gb (2x6) OCZ Fatality $273 WD 1tb harddrive x2 $240 Powersupply, bluray drives, fans and fan controllers $1029 Watercooling radiator fans, ect. $604 Case: Mozart TX + brackets for tubing management and wire covers for tidy wiring $269
Other Thoughts: Aside from replacing water on the cooling system, the occasional can of DustOFF and the electric bill of course, I wont be spending another dime on computers for another 3-4 years. people will tell you not to buy the best of the best as it becomes obsolete very fast, but take it from me if you're thinking in the long run, one big investment will beat out several smaller ones along the way. I used to replace comps every year or so and hemorrhage money for my workstations and gaming needs, trust me buying a ridiculously powerful setup is much more fun/effective.

why overclock?
Pros: Fast, looks like a horse. Has sprinkles on top for added horkfording benefits. Tinkles when you do.
Cons: Tinkles when you do, has its negatives.
Other Thoughts: Why do people get these and immediately overclock them when the factory clock is fine for any piece of software currently available to commercial users. If I may offer a bit of advice to you power mongers, leave the proc at factory clock until you feel your processor is getting out of date, then push it past its limits and run it into the ground for its last years out to keep it in touch with whatever insane advances happen. Some people just spend and spend and spend. When the next new great design comes out can one of you rich b*stards hand me your "old" (by 6 months i guess) tech? Some of the "lessers" would appreciate that haha.

If I could give it 6 eggs, I would
Pros: An incredibly strong CPU - probably Intel's biggest leap forward since the Pentium Pro.
It's hard to express how pleased I am with this buy without sounding like a complete Intel fan.
If you have the cash, an i7 based machine should be on your wish list.
Cons: The price of early adoption is not cheap.

Pros: This thing is well like everone says super fast. Very good reliable stable cpu.
Cons: easy enough its the heatsink. Doesnt keep it cool enough. And push pin design very hard to mount and dont think the contact with cpu is best. So get another heatsink.
Other Thoughts: I bought vigor monsoon 3 cooler. Way better temps with stock 38-68. With vigor 25-40c. And use ocz freeze with it. mounted on my Asus rampage 2 extreme

Corvette or Mustang?
Pros: The Cpu should be the 1rst deciding factor for what type of rig you want to have, it's the foundation for whatever the total build will be. My theory is, if you want the best end product then start with the strongest platform.
This is my 1 rst Intel rig; I used to refuse to even build 1 by client request. I'm sure glad that I've become more open minded as I've gotten older because I would've wasted a lot of coin building myself another AMD.
I'm replacing an AMD FX-55 rig that seems have become irrelevant overnight. I paid close to the same price for that single core when it 1rst arrived right here @ NEWEGG.
This processor is nothing like I've ever seen in the 20 years I’ve been building, extremely fast, overclocks well & almost futureproof; if I dare say the word myself. This core will be the foundation for years to come. The high price is well worth the product in this case. Which would you rather drive, Corvette or Mustang?
Cons: Definitely None
Other Thoughts: Go ahead, lean a little more, a little more, now don't deprive yourself of all the fun you'll have, BUY IT!!!!!!!!

Let me tell you something about price.
Pros: Read every other "Pro" thread to see. Let the truth be told =) this thing is fasttttt..
Cons: PRICE PRICE PRICE PRICE...of course price is a CON, not because it is expensive but because Intel is jacking up the price to an ubsurd level due to lack of competition...lets be real, you would see the price drop a couple of hundred dollars if another comparable chip was put on the market at a price closer to production price.

Pros: Put it in turned it on and works great.
Cons: Defaults to 9-9-9-24 not the 8-8-8-24 as advertised , had to manually set it.

Pros: Lightning fast. 4 cores with 8 threads very easy to overclock. I paired this Amazing cpu with the Asus Rampage II Extreme Mobo, Win/Vista 64 os, 12 GB of G.Skill 1600 mhz Ram, Danger Den water cooling with a clear waterbox chasis . I now have my dream computer as well as the fastest system of my life. Great for rendering 3D apps like Cinema 4D as well as gaming. So this CPU is great for a high end workstations or the perfect gaming system. I highly recommend!!!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Happiness, If you can afford it get it, you only live once!!! Enjoy!

Pros: - Great stock fan and heat sink. Blue LED's are cool - Super fast - Can't wait to overclock it with water cooling - Fantastically fast - Can't find a program to use over 10% of it's processing power. - Marvelously fast - Tremendously fast
Cons: Not fast enough to bend time

Intel Quad core finally done right
Pros: Great new architecture. Finally completely caught up to and surpassed AMD on the architecture side. This is quad core for Intel processors done right, finally. Memory controller is finally on the die itself. No more insanely clocked front side bus bottle necking memory access. With the memory controller on the die the processor can now get memory directly. The architecture is now in balance and the components complement each other nicely.
This thing is fast as hell. I am not an Intel or AMD fanboy. I buy the best thing at the time and the new Core i7's are the best thing running right now.
Unlocked multiplier for overclocking. Turbo mode is a nice feature.
Cons: Expensive. I have never paid 1k for a processor before. I probably never will again.

Very fast & stable at stock
Pros: Installed with stock cooler, P6T deluxe 0804 BIOS stock settings. Runs 3.34 GHz with 8 threads loaded, thanks to Turbo. Gets even higher if running 1 core. So much faster than my old X6800. Some apps are running 3 times faster. Installs and boots up Vista faster, too, on the same model hard drive.
Cons: Stock cooler is a light piece of conductive copper/aluminum, can get loud and still won't compare to heatpipe designs. CoreTemp reports 65-70C at full load, on an open bench - no blue screens yet, but thankfully it's not summer! Very cool and quiet at idle, though. Third party heatsinks harder to find; mine is taking a few more days to arrive.
Other Thoughts: I almost installed the CPU upside down. The socket side notches are dark and small and the corner arrow is invisible. The pins were confusing as they don't look like they'd line up with the CPU landings, and the socket doesn't stop you from dropping the CPU upside down. Not sure if Asus or Intel socket design is to blame.

Pros: This processor utilizes its cores VERY efficiently which yields such high performance. The key word for this processor is efficient. It is much more efficient than its predecessor, 9770.
Cons: I may have said this processor was more efficient than the 9770, but not as powerful. My 965 reached near 4.0 GHz on air. My 9770 hit 4.6 on air and 4.9 on liquid, all stable.
Other Thoughts: Not as powerful as the last poster made it seem to be.

Worth it
Pros: It goes without saying, blazing fast. So easy to OC. I am at 3.8ish on air by simply changing the multiplier. It ran stable for 24 hrs with 8instances of prime95 with no other adjustments. Of course, I did go back and manually adjust everything else but just wanted to see how easy it was. I was pleased. As far as coolers, another air option is the new Coolermaster V8. Its not carried on newegg yet :( but they do have it on here because it looks like they have them on order. I posted a review there, but simply put, it rivals the thermalright option and looks real cool. In a head to head test (google it), it equaled and sometimes exceeded the thermalright option. Either way though, you would be fine and better than stock.
Cons: None. I wish people would stop saying price. It is cheaper than the high end last gen and it spanks the last gen in all respects.
Other Thoughts: This CPU + Asus P6T + 4870x2 +Corsair HX1000 = HEAVEN. :)

Other Thoughts: Thermalright has the heatsink solution & LGA1366 conversion in stock at Performance PC's.

Cooling options for overclocking
Pros: As stated previously, the best CPU money can buy, with an unlocked multi the options for overclocking are near limitless.
Cons: Power req for Oc'ing
Other Thoughts: Koolance has 4 cpu blocks out now that fit the 1366 socket, they're all under 100$ aswell. Yes, they are liquid cooling, but anyone willing to spend the money to buy this specific processor is more than likely an overclocker who realizes the benefits of liquid cooling.

Don't worry about the stock cooler
Pros: Unlocked Multiplier, great stock cooler.
Cons: Price and I HATE the push pins that these new Intel CPUs use for cooler mounting.
Other Thoughts: Normally I NEVER use the OEM CPU cooler, but this time there were so few cooler options available that I gave it a try. GLAD I SAVED MY MONEY!). The EE cooler is AL/CU construction, has a blue led and a decent sized fan. The computer case (ABS Canyon)blows COOL air out the exhaust with this processor and a XFX Black Edition GTX260.

Ridiculous
Pros: This processor is insane. It absolutely flattens any other CPU out there, including the old Q9000s. This thing is awesome in Matlab and Solidworks (the primary reason I got it), and it also does excellent in games. I really can't think of a thing that I would change. Currently running @ 133*28 for 3.73GHz.
Oh, and the unlocked RAM multipliers are nice too - I have the Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 running beautifully at 8-8-8-24.
Cons: Nothing. Nothing at all.
Well, maybe price, but this thing is worth it.

Insane!
Pros: Amazing processor. Blazing fast, runs at 40 degrees celsius under load. Much faster than anything I have ever put into a machine.
Cons: Price
Other Thoughts: Core i7 extreme, Asus Rampage II, 2 x XFX GTX 280 GPU's, Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Edition, Samsung 305T, 12 gig G-Skill DDR3

Core i7 965 EE
Pros: Incredibly fast. Pretty much overkill for any application/software available. Blazing fast even at stock speed. Newegg of course is awesome as usual, super fast shipping and great service.
Cons: Expensive, if price tags are of concern.
Other Thoughts: Build: Coolermaster HAF932, Core i7 965, Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme 1366 CPU cooler, ASUS Rampage II Extreme x58, 6GB Patriot Viper Series 1600mhz DDR3, 2 EVGA GTX 280 Superclocked in SLI, 2 WD RaptorX 150gb HDD in RAID 0, Thermaltake Toughpower 1200w PSU, Bitspower XPIII 5.25" Fanspeed contoller/HDD LED, LG 6x Blu-ray burner/HD DVDROM SATA, Liteon 20x DVDRW

It is what it is
Pros: New, bleeding edge technology.
Cons: No good 3rd party heatsink/fans available...yet. My BIOS says the cpu ir running at 84C...not sure what the deal is with that, but I heard they are still safe at those temps. Intel employees do not know anything about this chip if you have a problem with it and need to call them.
Other Thoughts: The stock fan is ok...the push pins are kinda lame...not secure enough for my liking. Also, if you buy one of the very few cpu coolers available right now, you'll need to pay extra for a 1366 adaptor.

Great CPU
Pros: Unlocked multi Unlocked ram multi 5 settings vs 2 on the 920/940 run's cool and stable boxed HSF works very nice has 2 settings quite and performance. quite is silent performace is not very loud stock HSF can handle 3.75GHz with out high temps under load
Cons: would have hoped for more cache with the EE $ but i guess having the unlocked multi's makes it worth it, if you want to be able to fine tune your system.
Other Thoughts: make sure you have a heck of a good ps when o/c'ing this thing pulls alot of wattage! 300+ Running mine at 4.2 @ 1.5v on water load temps never over 65c. 100% stable. 4.4 is do able but i dont feel comfortable with higher temps will post at 4.56GHz!

Working great, runs cool considering
Pros: This is a great CPU. It is expensive, but anyone buying an Intel Extreme Edition CPU probably knows this, so to post "Price" as a Con is IMO silly. ;) Anyway, at stock voltage I'm able to run this CPU at 3.8 ghz. Doesn't sound like much until you consider that all I did is raise the multiplier, that's it. Haven't played with it yet to see what she'll really do. Air cooled, albeit with a Thermalright Ultra 120 and a fan rated to about 80 cfm or so. I'm sure I'll hit a lot higher clockspeeds once I have any real time to play around.
Cons: None. Okay, it didn't come with free pie. ;)
Other Thoughts: The stock heatsink, for such looks like it wouldn't be too horrid, it was half copper and half aluminum and a bit taller the the stock for the Core 2duo CPU's. Since this isn't directly related to the CPU I won't put this as a con, but I did have to go to a different store to buy my Thermalright heatsink and the LGA 1366 bracket for it, Newegg was out of stock of the heatsinks and didn't have the bracket when I ordered this CPU last week. I haven't checked this week to see if they now have some LGA 1366 heatsinks in stock. Not a big issue, just a mild warning to check first on whom has a heatsink you might want if you're going to buy one aftermarket.

Will not get any better than this.
Pros: Lower idle watts than my previous C2D E6400 system. (Measured with Kill-A-Watt, everything identical except CPU/MB/ram) One of the most satisfying $1K I ever spent. Will not get any better than this. at least for a while.
Cons: none. You get what you paid for.
Other Thoughts: vDimm issue is quite annoying at the moment, but I assume that it will be circumvented in the future by MB manufactures. I think intel EE versions tend to stick around $1k, so I dont need to stress too much about price drop, but thats just my thoughts.
