Good Performance @ Good Price
Pros: Snappy performance, runs Win XP really well, can transcode video to Divx slightly faster than real-time
Cons: I feel fifty bucks is still too much to pay this processor...thirty-five to forty dollars is my preference, does hang on some applications but generally runs smooth
Other Thoughts: I wrote review several months ago on a Celeron 420 (1.6GHz) and said basically the processor was the pits. I still stand by that statement for the Celeron 420 only. The Celeron 440 is nothing like the 420. This guy has snappy performance and doesn't cause the CPU fan to rev up to high speeds making lots of noise. Much of the reason why I am happy with it is because it is mated to an Intel DG45ID motherboard that has intergrated graphics hardware acceleration built-in. Thus, it did not require me to have a powerful processor.
Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase. It was better for me to have started with a powerful processor, e8500, and then fall back to the Celeron 440. I now know what I am missing and not missing.
System Specs: Windows XP Professional SP3 Intel Celeron 440 Intel DG45ID Crucial DDR2-800 (8GB) - I went back to XP Professional from Vista Ultimate x64 - what do I do with the extra 5GB? LG Blu-ray/HD DVD

Update!
Pros: Well it has been about 6 months of use and I still find this processor to be a workhorse. I have nothing to say but good things. This is my first intel processor since the good old slot series. I have been a huge AMD fan and still am. But I love this 440. I have done a huge amount of HD tests and this processor has passed them all. PERFECT HTPC cpu.
Cons: I did however have the stock heat sink pop off of the board. The plastic clips are horrible. I did have a Pentium D dual core heat sink sitting around new. The Pentium D has metal brackets for the pins. Plus the Pentium D heat sink has a smart fan and copper core and its taller. This mounted much better than the Celeron HS.
Other Thoughts: With the new heatsink the fan stays at 700 rpm no matter how much load I put on it. The processor sits at 18 c all the time. Perfect!
Dswanson's comments are correct. CPU makers have reached a limit on speed and ability to create new hardware. So they will double up useless cores to make it seem faster. Nothing is multi threaded and if it is it doesnt use the cores effectively. The only thing that does is cpu testing software. But real world they arent faster. You buy them and want to think they are faster. You do not need a multi core cpu to multitask.

Pros: Performs extremely reliably with acceptable performance for a home file server running 24x7.
Cons: Stock cooler is pointless ... get a better, quieter one. Could be faster, but you get what you pay for.

Good value processor, bad heatsink
Pros: Decent performance, inexpensive, low power consumption. Performance running Ubuntu 8.04 is very acceptable.
Cons: The included heatsink is loud and hard to mount. Like the other stock Intel fans I've encountered, the fan makes a buzzing sound. The plastic lock retention system is horrible.
Other Thoughts: I managed to get the system running fine, but could not get all the locks inserted 100% (in a Shuttle K48). Processor performance is absolutely fine considering the price and the power used. But I would recommend swapping out the heatsink and fan for something quieter with a screw mount.

Recommended!
Pros: Great performance from a celeron processor. More than enough power for HTPC and HD video or blu-ray. Plays 1080p on ITX Zotac board with geforce 7100 no problem at all and I mean built it and play no software to mess with. No heat at all stock HS is more than efficent, Cool to the touch at all times. Even multi tasks while watching HD really well.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Hd 1080p Play back with 30 to 40 percent cpu utilization leaving plunty of websurfing power or other things. Cool low power consumption. Want to built a HTPC? I recommend this CPU. I also recommend the Zotac ITX 630i board with geforce 7100.
Zotac 630i ITX, 2 gigs of 667, 160 gig HD, DVD burner.

CPU works great
Pros: I had no problems with the CPU. I did have a little trouble with installing the heatsink mount. The plastic lockdowns will break easy so be careful and make sure it is pushed in all the way before twisting into the locked position. ALSO be careful with the pre-applied thermal paste on the heatsink.
Cons: None so far

Pros: None to evaluate.
Cons: Not sure if it was the CPU or the motherboard I put it in: "Foxconn 661GX7MJ-H LGA 775 SiS 661GX Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail"
Other Thoughts: Try, try again?

Intel Celeron 440 Conroe-L 2.0GHz
Pros: Intel reliability, speed, ease of installation, web site, and support are top-notch. Newegg's price could not be beat.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I was unable to find this exact processor anywhere else at a better price. Neweggg is very competitive in terms of pricing and special offers.

Fast and Low power!
Pros: This is an awesome processor. I have been so bummed with the power consumption of the P4 Generation processors. This Conroe-L fixes all that!! The excitement in computing is back with Celeron 440 and Ubuntu 8.04. No more hot computer room with a sluggish loud computer.
Cons: The supplied heat sink is very cheap. Intel has several different heat sinks, and they only give you the one that they calculate is enough. Since this processor is so efficient, they give you the cheapest heat sink. It is very thin, and has no copper core. I have a lot of them laying around, so I used one from a hotter processor. I'm sure that the cheap one is good enough unless your PC is in a glass factory, but as an engineer I just like my stuff to run smooth and cool...
Other Thoughts: Single core. This may or may not be an issue. Intel has spent a lot of money trying to convince everyone that they need multi-core. There is a simple reason for this, they are running out of ability to scale the speed of the cores up. The best thing for their sales and stock price is to change the perception in the market. It is not easy to write clean bug free multi-threaded code. It is not even possible for some tasks. So buyer be ware. You may not get any performance out of multi core, but you WILL get increased power consumption, noise, heat.

Great processor
Pros: For the price this is an excellent processor. No problems at all. I've been running this for 8 months now and it's performance is just like the day I installed it. Runs cool, multi-tasks well and the heatsink/fan is nice and quiet. Haven't attempted over clocking, so no input on that note.
Cons: It's a little scary installing the heatsink/fan. This was my first build, so I was worried that the force it took me to pop it in place might crack the mobo, but I think that was just n00b for ya'.
Other Thoughts: I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a single core Intel based processor. Has excellent speed right out of the box and is priced perfectly

Great CPU
Pros: great CPU for the purpose we bought it to serve. Just using it in a media PC which will sit behind a TV and do nothing but play movies. It is running at stock speed w/ the stock heatsink on an Asrock wolfdale mobo. Temps are 30C idle (watching a movie doesn't exactly put a load on any modern system)
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I generally use a more powerful CPU for gaming rigs, E6750, E8400's, etc... about as low end as I'll go on those. Q6600's are nice for inexpensive quad cores. Again this is CPU is just being used in a media center PC and no real load will ever be put on it.

Fast and cool
Pros: Installed this in my new home theater PC, which is replacing an older Sempron-based system. I mounted a Zalman cpu cooler, but I'm not sure I needed it (though I think it's probably quieter). This thing runs so much cooler than the old system. The case and exhaust is only slightly above room temp (whereas the old one was always very hot).
Cons: Obviously not a good choice for bleeding edge performance, but if you just need a light-duty CPU, and if you are worried about heat/noise, I can't think of a better choice.
Other Thoughts: Like I said above, a good aftermarket cooler is probably a good idea if noise is a concern, but it's probably not necessary for handling the heat output.

Great single core processor
Pros: Very low power consumption (a little more than half of a duel core) which means very low heat! It runs very quiet even when at full capacity. A huge improvement over my Athlon XP 1.5 Ghz.
Cons: It lacks the processing power of dual core technology, and as the thermal requirements get lower for dual cores this processor won't be a good option anymore.
Other Thoughts: If the 45nm dual cores would requirer less power than they would be a much better choice than this guy. However, if you're looking for a great single core this is it, it is great.

Low = Cool
Pros: Low W = Low heat... Would luv to see this proc fit the "new" ITX bill...
Cons: None No ITX boards within $$$ range ;)
Other Thoughts: Yeah sure the the E1200 is better... But it will cost more to operate in the "long" run... I for one am keeping a hold on my Conroe-L...

Fantastic!
Pros: Wanted a cool running and nearly silent CPU for running Windows Home Server. I did not need overkill -- this CPU is a perfect fit for this application. Have it paired with a Foxconn 45CMX MB which cost around $50 and is driver friendly for Windows Server 2003 and I have the perfect match. Runs Windows Home Server perfectly. I'm really impressed with this CPU's capabilities and very, very low power consumption.
Cons: I my opinion, one can't argue with perfection -- this CPU is it.
Other Thoughts: I've built a bunch of various rigs. And I have learned over these many build to match hardware and software. This impressive CPU is a perfect fit for Windows Home Server. It hits the "sweet spot".

Lots of Fun
Pros: I'm holding out for a Penryn, and in the meantime stuck this little guy into an Abit IX38 Quad GT. I'm running 333x10 (1.35V) w/ DDR2-999 5-5-5-18 and a Thermalright Ultra-120. Prime stable all night long :)
Cons: There's plenty more voltage and cooling to go, but I lose Prime at 337x10. Won't boot at 340x10.
Other Thoughts: Conroe is fantastic; Yorkfield ups the FSB to 1600, adds a core, and adds about 12MB cache. Should be unbelievable. C'mon AMD, we need some real competition to make 45nm affordable.

Sweet and Cheap
Pros: Great for low end build. Cheap and works great if used for basic computing. Runs cool with stock fan.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Using on budget build just for running fax-copy-scanner machine. Web browsing as fast as with my core2 Duo rig.

Intel, you've done it again!!!!!
Pros: Core technology, low idle/operating temperatures, FAST (equivalent to P4 3.06 GHz) Very impressed
Cons: Not really a con, but heatsink/fan combo scared me at first (a lot smaller than previous Intel chips i've purchased) No heat problems as of yet though
Other Thoughts: Father thought his 3.4 GHz Cedar Mill Celeron was fast, . . . until he got a taste of my 2.0 Ghz Conroe based Celeron; wiped him in every benchmark except video (he's got a 8500GT; i'm using onboard 945). BUY IT! Great budget build - even runs Bioshock @ full res with good video (borrowed a 7600GT XXX to test)

Super PI 1M test in 33 Seconds
Pros: I can't believe how fast this CPU does Super PI!! A stock core 2 duo E6400 does it in 27 seconds... I overclocked this to 2.4 with ease and got 29 seconds. 10x multiplier makes it easy to overclock.
Cons: None. Great CPU for very little money.
Other Thoughts: This would be core 2 solo, with 512K L2 cache, and a FSB of 800Mhz. Look for the upcoming 2.4Ghz Conroe-L.

Pros: NICE! The price is good, little better then my PentD. Great for budget build.
Cons: unknown

Best Bargain Ever!!!!
Pros: This little processor rules!!! forget all of you that have a stigma about all Celerons being horrible, when A you've never owned one, and B you had one bad experience and labeled them all bad. I've had some in the past and they have never given me trouble, usually meeting or outperforming my expectations. I have this speed demon currently overclocked to 2.6 GHz on my in9 32x max on 1.3 Volts!!! the highest speed I found out is 3GHz and I cant wait to get there, it was so easy all I had to do was raise the fsb and it runs cool around 30 c idle 35 c load. For 3 GHz I'll have to raise the volts but I'm already blazin!!!! In WoW I average 175 fps no lie, and I'm on a 7300 gt, not just that but I have no lag when opening anything in windows and startup and shutdown times are jaw dropingly fast.
Cons: NONE... if your on a budget buy this, and when prices drop you can always buy something better because if your running this chances are you can drop in the new one without upgrading the board.
Other Thoughts: if your going to build a good budget system never skimp on the essentials, a good mobo can go a long way and get the best psu you can afford, I bought a rosewill 750 watt psu it had 4 12v rails!!! I plan on getting a better graphics card down the road :D. I bought my entire system except mobo from newegg and only because i couldn't get the insane rebate they had before time was up :( ... Celeron 440 @ 2.6 GHz, IN9 32X MAX, Adata 2GB 4-4-4-11 2T RAM, Rosewill 750 watt PSU Gigabyte 7300gt.

Decent performer. Overpriced for what you get.
Pros: This is a very decent performer, but it is way too expensive for what it is, and though it overclocks well, the stock HS is mediocre and makes overclocking impossible because of thermal issues. by the time you get a decent HS you have the price of a much better CPU.
Cons: I used this to build a system for someone who just had to have a CPU based on C2D tech but didn't want to pay for a C2D. Whatever. For the same price you can get a low voltage Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz. No comparison: the X2 definitely loses to a real C2D in virtually every benchmark, but it smokes this thing and comes with a real HS. Also, the guy I built for bought a 965 board -- which even at budget is pricey. For the same money I could have gotten an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz and a very decent AM2 board.
Other Thoughts: This is decent, but as stated it is really overpriced. If you can afford a real C2D you should definitely get it. It is no secret they are the best CPUs out there. If you are looking for cheap and good you need to go AMD. AMD was pricing their CPUs at the same price as C2Ds that everyone knew were better performers. Now AMD has dropped prices so radically that for budget builds X2 is it. Excellent performance, even in Vista, for the price of a single core Celeron. Not even close from my standpoint.

Overclockable
Pros: I put it in a Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard. It will overclock to 3.3Ghz at default vcore, bumped the vcore to 1.35 and it ran 3.4Ghz. It would run above 3.4Ghz but seemed to actually slowdown above 3.4Ghz. Runs very cool,18C at idle, low thirties under a heavy load.
Cons: The supplied HSF is tiny and barely adequate for running at stock. It did run at 3.0Ghz O.K but as soon as I increased the vcore the temp zoomed to 75C. Buy an aftermarket fan if your going to overclock.
Other Thoughts: At 2.0GHZ it's about as fast as a Cedar Mill Celeron running at 4.0Ghz. At 3.0Ghz it's about as fast as a D805 at stock speed. It's diffinetly as faster Celeron. Just don't except C2D performance.

the little CPU that could
Pros: Upgraded from Tualatin Celeron/P2B/Powerleap to this Conroe-L/AsrockDX90/1GB, reusing case/power supply/harddrive/CDRW/....... This CPU has a ton of performance for the price. Its single core but has no problem with any home/office tasks and most games. Also, it runs very cool and is happy with old wimpy power supply. For a little extra kick, it'll run a lot faster with a mild voltage bump. 800mhz FSB is just a simple bios adjustment away for you overclocking junkies.
Cons: Price. Yep, its cheap but I would want it to be cheaper. Conroe-L Celeron 2.4 should be out soon for a couple bucks more.
Other Thoughts: If you have ego issues, by all means buy a Core2Duo. But, for most users, this Celeron has enough power for anything thrown at it.
