Great product!
Pros: Great deal for upgrades. Most of the Socket 478 computers are too old for most people to upgrade but if you need more for your Optiplex or Dimension Desktops this is it. I upgraded from the original 3.2 Celeron to this P4 and felt like i had a new machine.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Make sure you chipset is configured for the Northwood make. Northwood and Prescott are not inter-changeable.

wish it was cheaper
Pros: Nice upgrade for my 1.8ghz P4(256L2 cache,400FSB). This chip is 1ghz faster, double the L2 cache(512K) and 533FSB. PC feels like a new machine.
Cons: Price & value. For around the same price you could buy a much faster newer chip, but if like me and you want to get a bit more time out of your old machine this is a good choice.
Other Thoughts: Dimension 2400 is much faster now.

Good replacement
Pros: Easy Instal, no driver or BIOS issues.
Cons: Performance is minimal over a 2.53gh pent 4.
Other Thoughts: I upgraded this from a 2.53 to get just a little more out of my pc, however, it didnt seem to give me much at all. So if you are thinking about upgrading your CPU on an old 478, just wait until you can get a new duel or quad core pc.

OK for its day
Pros: Works. More than enough for basic office applications; will easily run stuff like Unreal Tournament 2004 if you have the graphics card to match. A good upgrade option for a legacy Socket 478 board.
Cons: The entire Netburst marketecture was a mistake, producing high temperatures and clock speeds at the cost of real-world performance. The C-series Northwoods were actually pretty good thanks to Hyperthreading and an 800-MHz FSB; as a B-series Northwood, however, this P4 lacks Hyperthreading support, and the 533-MHz FSB chokes this bandwidth-hungry beast. Let's face facts: this chip is obsolete. It was made obsolete by the 2.8C, and that was 5 years ago.
Other Thoughts: This is an upgrade option for an old computer, NOT something to build a new system with. For a new system, a Conroe-L Celeron is cheaper, faster, and much cooler; an Allendale Pentium, similar in cost and heat output to the 2.8C, is SEVERAL TIMES as fast.

Great Processor
Pros: Excellent processor. I've had it for almost two years now and has worked great ever since. I have it over clocked to 3.31ghz and its running perfect. Just a few degrees over what it normally runs at.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: This is a great budget processor for anyone looking to upgrade from a single-core.

Pros: Performs as advertised
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Updated a older Dell 4550 machine that was donated to me. Took out the older 2.0GHZ P4 400 mhz FSB and dropped this in. Instant speed increase. This is a cheap way to keep an older machine viable.

Good buy!
Pros: This was the first cpu I've used for my own custom built pc. It was nice moving from my outdated Sony Vaio to this.
Cons: Maybe the low cache?
Other Thoughts: I pieced this with 2gb of pc3200 memory on an old Fujitsu Siemens board I had ordered a year or 2 before. I found the board one day and decided to finally put something together. Best pc I'd used until I got my wife this pentium D dual core. Working on an e8400 now.

This Product works great
Pros: Well i look at all the 478 sockets and they work great and also they have an hight understanding on amount of speed and a good look to them and this processer works like a beast and it also works very fest than my other processer it was an intel celeron M 1.80 and it was very slow after i upgrade it to and p4 2.80 it works more better than that celeron i used to have and this processer is one of a kind for gaming the p4 one so if yours guys are looking at it and go with you thoughts about it and i whould say to go for it if it machts the right mother board you have
Cons: none for this eggcilent product thanks newegg
Other Thoughts: well none i whould like it to be a 3.0 mhz but hay i cant complain about a p4 2.8 its an eggcilent product and it is worth the mony $$$

2.8 Ghz Northwood
Pros: Great processor as a p-4 upgrade from other processors,I have tried the 3.06ghz w/ht and this is better than it(even has a lower pricetag)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: You cant do any better than this for the price....even the 3.06ghz w/ht cant compare to this processor.Newegg as always gives the best service and delivers

P4 1.8 to P4 Northwood 2.8
Pros: You take the 1.8 out...pop in the 2.8...a drop of Arctic Silver 5...smoosh on the sink/fan...and start typing. Immediate gratification. :-) BIOS upgraded the old Gateway to a Gate-was. BTW, this Northwood is running cooler than the 1.8 it replaced; right around 30-31 C.
Cons: None I can see.
Other Thoughts: This is an older machine that I have a dedicated use for...and now it'll be good to go for several more years.

Works Well, Bad Packaging
Pros: Works well, a great improvement over my old 2.0 GHz Celeron.
Cons: Packaging needed to be taped shut, as mine was not in the packaging and received a numerous ammount of bent pins.
Other Thoughts: Is tape expensive?

GOOD DEAL
Pros: super fast delivery (had product in one business day) no fuss,no hassle install.
Cons: less than foolproof packaging....mine wasnt damaged, but the chance exists.
Other Thoughts: good upgrade option for old socket 478 boards.replaced Dell 2400 MOBO/CPU/MEM/PS and got essentially a new system out of the deal for about 180 bucks.used biostar mobo P4M900-M4 and one gig kingston DDR2 667 mem and wound up with a superior system then I began with.....sure it isnt gonna win any awards, but it will get at least another 2 years life out of an otherwise dead computer.NEWEGG RULES!!!

Very Nice
Pros: I upgrade to this from a p4 1.8. It was the best thing I ever did. HUGE difference in the performance of my computer. Now when ever I start up an application or multitasking there is very little bottlenecking. It is like I have a new computer!
Cons: None

Good upgrade
Pros: Was delivered quickly. Went in easily, was quickly identified by PC and speeds it up. It is an upgrade for a Dell 2400 (2.4 Celeron), like so many others have commented. I would recommend it to others to try. With a little rubbing alcohol to clean the heat sink of old paste, and new silver paste, the change was easy.
Cons: None

Replaced OEM proc
Pros: Direct replacement for intel machine. Proc had fried from over-heating. Heatsink and fan was OBSTRUCTED with dust. Cient had renovations done to the home and drywall dust was evident everywhere. The hs paste was charred black. Cleaned hs and fan, reapplied artic silver to proc. Posted first time.
Cons: None so far.

Pros: solved all problems with the Dell Dimension 2400. No more freeze up, no more blue screen. Easy to install. Upgraded fron a 2.0 to this 2.8. Speed and performance very much improved.
Cons: None

Works well in Dell OEM
Pros: Worked well, just dropped it into the socket after removing the existing CPU from the Dell box
Cons: Northwood core-not exactly the fastest or the coolest Intel chip out there
Other Thoughts: Overall a good CPU, but $85 for a Northwood CPU? Seems a bit expensive, Intel. My C2D E6750 is a bit over twice that much, with probably way better than 2x performance

Better than an 800MHz P4 3.0 1MB
Pros: This thing runs faster than the P4 3.0 that I purchased to replace it, even when the replacement was overclocked. I can't believe it, but Battlefield 2 couldn't be happier.
Cons: Single Core processor.
Other Thoughts: I am getting ready to overclock this processor. Should be great!

Glad to find one
Pros: Glad to find a P4 still floating around for my old Inspiron 5100. Got this and 2 gigs of G-skill ram to stretch another year out of my laptop.
Cons: Wish it was HT
Other Thoughts: Woke up a tire machine.

Great deal but a little risky.
Pros: There were no bent pins and it looks like a new processor in perfect working condition. Best upgrade for the money.
Cons: The packaging is not fool-proof allowing for the possibility the pins may bend in shipping and Newegg will not accept returns for processors with bent pins!

Good 478 CPU
Pros: Runs cool, is inexpensive, and available still!
Cons: None, fit my need perfectly.
Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a P4 2.4Ghz and there is a slight increase in power. As long as you have the supporting hardware it will bounce up to 3.5Ghz and still runs cool. I run mine at 3.0Ghz and it doesn't skip a beat ... stable as a rock. It Prime's at 38C and idles at 32C on my comfiguration. Great processor for standard office use.

good lasting
Pros: runs really fast for single core and good for the price, lasts 4+ years
Cons: if overclocked to 2.9 sometimes games will have weird lines everywhere and models would get weird, thermal oil dries after 4 years, sometimes restarts computer after entering a game

Pros: nice and fast no problems installing cheaper than the higher performance cpu's works well for internet and music listening
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: motherboard wouldn't run on 533 mhz eventhough it is supposed to it ran at 2.1 but was still fast geuss i'll have to have someone with more knowledge fix the settings

Pentium 4 478
Pros: Price is good, overclocks really well, really no need to upgrade to any other processor beyond this one in the pentium 4 family.
Cons: Processor is on the bubble of technology like game cards, video programs. May need new power supply to run properly if upgrading from older computer.
Other Thoughts: Overclocks to 3.1 ghz stable. If you have a 800mhz bus speed motherboard you cannot overclock a 800mhz rated processor, but if you have a 533mhz you can overclock to maximum 800mhz if your motherboard supports it.

Dimension 2400 Upgrade
Pros: Price. Installation was a breeze. I just plugged it in, added new heat-conducting compound, replaced the heatsink and turned the machine back on. Windows recognized it right away. Great performance boost from a 2.4 Ghz Celeron.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Inexpensive and noticable upgrade to an aging Dell Dimension 2400. Also installed a 160 GB WD drive. Should be able to go another 2 years now.

No More Celeron D!!
Pros: I got this same processor except mine is the Prescott version with 1MB cashe instead of 512kb. Either way its an awsome processor. I originall had a 2.93Ghz Celeron D with 256kb cashe and then upgraded to this. I lost 130mhz or so but well worth it. This pentium 4 is alot faster with web pages and gaming. If you have good knowledge about computers it will be an easy install. I just popped out my celeron D and put this in and my comp recognized it immediately. Very easy upgrade.
Cons: None its a Pentium 4 whats to complain about?
Other Thoughts: My Comp: Compaq SR1503WM With 2.8Ghz/1Mb Cashe Pentium 4 Prescott, 2Gb PC2700, BFG FX5500, Thermaltake 430W Power Supply.

Not very effective
Pros: Well let's see owned this product for 4 years. When you first start using it it's fast.
Cons: Don't bother get a Pentium D or a AMD Athlon 64 X-2 there are some X-2's and Pentium D's in this price range. The Pentium 4 is rather slow if you use it over 2 years. Whereas AMD is stable which you can use for a looong period of time without slow downs. Personally I'd take a AMD Athlon 64 over this.
Other Thoughts: This P4 is being used in my current dell PC.

Good chip
Pros: Chip is stable, fast, and great. I was stupid, but this is still a great chip. Don't be swayed by naysayers.
Cons: Used, but it works like new. This really isn't a big problem.
Other Thoughts: For a socket 478 motherboard, this is THE best chip you can get. Ignore the warnings below about used chips. Mine was used, had clearly been pulled off an old PC, however it was absolutley perfect. No bent pins, and it worked great with my original heatsink and some Artic Silver 5. I was stupid though and used this on a motherboard that only supports 400 FSB max. As such, this runs at only 2.1 GHz for me at 400 instead of 533 FSB. MY dumb mistake though. It STILL is a fast chip that I can actually play Battlefield 2 on with no skipping. If you ask me, that's a testament to the Northwood core.

Great Upgrade for socket 478!
Pros: I replaced a 1.7Ghz Celeron with this 2.8Ghz Northwood P4. Night and day difference my friends. Faster bus, higher clock, more cache, what can I say? Absolutely worth the (tiny!) price I paid for it.
Cons: None that I can think of. Northwoods are great processors for their vintage of mobo's. Unit I received was NOT used or pulled, it was spotless and perfect. I don't know what people are talking about when they claim to get a pulled chip. Mine was definitely NOT pulled.
Other Thoughts: If you've got socket 478, this is your best bet, unless you're holding out for a 3.06 w/HT. That's the only better processor you can buy and they're scarce (and expensive). Unless you want the HT, buy this processor and you'll be getting as much oomph from your older mobo as you need and probably more.

Not Impressed
Pros: None
Cons: Not impressed as this is Clearly "pull". There is a difference between OEM and USED. This is clearly a USED chip. Who knows how long it will work or if it will work or how it was handled. My bad for buying anything OEM online.
Other Thoughts: Likely will be returning this as I don't trust USED equipment purchased at FULL price.

No Problem
Pros: The order processed without a hitch. The free shipping was on time. The Chip has no bent pins and is in good condition. My BIOS recognized it without a problem on my Intel mobo. I used Arctic Silver with the stock heatsink and fan that came with the Celeron I replaced and its running cooler than the recommended temperature. Start up is much faster and my windows are popping. I had a Celeron so this gives me more speed and cache and a much wider bus. Nice upgrade.
Cons: None.

Great Processor
Pros: Extremely fast
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: This Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Northwood 2.8GHz 512KB L2 Cache Processor is a much better option than the Celeron Processor it replacement in my machine. Can't believe it went up $2.00 from when I bought it back in June. Either way a real bargain and Newegg priced it well.

Worth Every Penny!
Pros: This processor came in perfect condition and was a snap to install. Performs beautifully compared to my old 1.7Ghz Celeron. Larger L2 cache is a huge benefit. Moving up from 400 to 533mhz bus was also great benefit. Two birds with one stone in this unit.
This the second best processor for socket 478 (can't find the 3.06Ghz Northwood anywhere!) and for the money you cannot beat it!
Cons: None really. No instructions, but this isn't rocket science so what do you need them for?
Other Thoughts: If you have a socket 478 motherboard and want to upgrade, there is no better processor available (unless you find the 3.06Ghz Northwood on an auction site!). This is definitely a beauty of a processor and for the money you cannot beat it.

another Dimension 2400 upgrade
Pros: Lightning fast shipping from NewEgg, easy upgrade for a Dell Dimension 2400 w/ Celeron 2.4, good way to squeeze another year or two out of an aging system
Cons: Doesn't come with thermal paste - don't expect a miracle performance increase, but it did boot about 7 seconds faster.
Other Thoughts: Simple install in a Dell Dimension 2400 - reused existing heat-sink - make sure to order thermal paste

Pros: This was an extremely EASY upgrade! I went from a Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz to this on a Dell OptiPlex GX260. Installing this took me less literally less than 5 minutes. The computer instantly recognized it and ran nice and smooth. Huge speed increase! Another great thing is that the chip was in great condition! No bent pins or anything. Definitely recommended for a nice upgrade on older computers.
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: Newegg is amazing!

OK processor
Pros: No new drivers needed. Just install into motherboard. Replaced a 2.53 Ghz. Do not see a huge benefit but just some benefit. No errors seen, no crashed. used for entire length of a day for sevral days and no problems thus far.
Cons: Runs a bit hotter than the 2.53 Ghz processor but not too bad. Average temperature 41 celcius as compared to 37 for the 2.53 that i removed.
Other Thoughts: Do not see a huge benefit of replacing a 2.53 Ghz with 2.8 Ghz. Overclocking a bit makes it run even hotter. Still it is good to have a 2.8 GHz than not.

Nice step up from a Celeron
Pros: Installation was a charm, processor did exactly what I'd expected.
Cons: None whatsoever.
Other Thoughts: Installed this in an elderly friend's computer (Dell Dimension 2400), replacing the original Celeron, and what a difference! The formerly sluggish machine now hums right along, and my friend's a very happy camper!

2.8 Northwood Processor
Pros: This is just another boringly positive rating. I just installed the processor in my five year old Dell Dimension 8200 and I can see an improvement in performance. I think I should be able to get a couple more years out of the old girl before I need to buy a replacement.
Cons: None yet. "YET" being the key word here. I'm betting I will be hppy with the processor for a long time.

What a difference
Pros: Went from a 1.6 OC'd to 2.0 to this.
1 less gb of RAM and still tons faster than previous set up.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Wish I had gone dual core on this build

Great Dell upgrade
Pros: Another inexpensive upgrade from a celeron to a true P4. Greater speed, no other mods needed.
Cons: None, low price, great improvment in performance.
Other Thoughts: Third Dell computer upgrade from Celeron to P4. All worked great, no problems.

Good but
Pros: It has given me no problem's.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: But you can go up to a 3.0 for less than ten bucks so ya. and i realized this to late so it's better just to go up another level instead of upgrading it later.

Great upgrade for an old MB.
Pros: Had this for little over a month. Upgraded my CPU from P4 2.0 GHZ 400 FSB to 2.80 GHZ 533 FSB. I have noticed a somewhat significant improvement in games. Counterstrike Source plays a lot smoother when there is 12 versus 12 players or more. 3D Mark 06 scores went from 2564 to 2868. CPU Score in 3d Mark 06 went from 532 to 741. In 3D Mark 05 score went from 4022 to 5029. CPU Score in 05 went from 2227 to 2561. In 3D Mark 03 score went from 10995 to 11507. CPU Score in 03 went from 416 to 499. PC Mark 05 score went from 2469 to 2882. Benchmark for HL2: Lost Coast went from 31-32 FPS to 39-40fps. In default settings in Lost Planet the score in Snow went from 23 to 30 FPS. and in Cave went from 8 to 12.
Cons: I have noticed, it runs a bit hotter. Graphics card temp went from 52 to 57C.
Other Thoughts: System specs: Dimension 4550 P4 2.80GHZ 533 FSB XFX 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 XXX Ed. Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM Western Digital 160GB 7200 RPM 1.280 GB PC2100 Pioneer 16X DVD+/-RW Stock 250W

Core Who?
Pros: AN excellent upgrade for my son's computer from a 2Ghz Celeron. Everything runs/loads much faster. I recently put in a 7300gt video card. It will run most new games(havent tried Oblivion, lol) on high quality with no problems. Not bad for a 4 year old computer! It'll last him for a couple more years at least.
Cons: its no Core 2.
Other Thoughts: The Northwoods were the best processors made of theyre day. Cool and quiet.

Still a viable processor
Pros: I upgraded from a 1.6 to this several months ago and am very pleased. it made my system current again, able to play the new games etc .
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: be sure to get a good cpu fan :) runs warmer than a 1.6

Standard stuff - good price
Pros: Drop in replacement on older motherboard - solid speed improvement (previous processor was a P4-1500)
Cons: runs a little hotter, fan is a little louder (standard type)
Other Thoughts: I am happy with this.

Great Cheap Processor
Pros: I have used 4 of these Northwood processors in the last few years. Sufficient power to do video editing if your on a budget. Will run at 100% for hours on end and run at 129F. Used in coastal non-conditioned shop for years at about 90F ambient temp.
Cons: One unit I ordered recently caused random shutdowns and blue screens. Newegg quickly replaced it and the new one is great.
Other Thoughts: Good processor for windows XP. Good for moderate video editing and light gaming (Sims 2). Great processor for Photoshop, and sound recording.

Really nice and solid!
Pros: I love this processor. I purchased this for my first build. I am using it with a TR2TT TR2-M12 80mm Ball CPU Cooler, Arctic Silver 5 and an ASUS P4V300D-X mother board. I put it all together; it powered up the first time and loaded XP with no problems. Pretty exciting stuff for a newbie like me. It multi-tasks well. I have been able to burn video to a DVD and play Combat Flight Simulator III concurrently without problems. I have also simultaneously burned video to DVD, worked on Quicken and listened to CDs. I had rebuilt my old computer around the original P3. It could only do one of those tasks at a time. I have this P4 overclocked by 5%. It idles around 32 degrees (Celsius). When I get up in the morning, I have seen idle temps around 28 degrees. When multi-tasking, it usually runs around 49 degrees. With the summer months and being warmer in our house, I have seen temps momentarily around 53 degrees.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Obviously, if you are a gamer, this is not the processor for you. It is an outstanding all round work station processor. I make quite a few movie DVDs, run office applications and play some games. It does an outstanding job and far quicker than my old P3 1.0 ghz.

2.8 GHz P4 Socket 478
Pros: Major improvement over a 2.4 GHz model. Wish it could be a little cheaper but I guess I should be lucky enough to find one.
Cons: Price...comon its a socket 478 nothing cutting edge
Other Thoughts: Went into a Dell Dimension 2400 with an upgrade of 1GB of ram. Huge performance gain. Wish the next step (the 3.06 GHz) was available from here. Didnt find it for less than 3X what this was when I first searched for a compatible processor. Now i find it fore less than this one.

Nice Upgrade!
Pros: Worth every penny. Nice upgrade from a 2.0. Best part is, it booted right up no problem, and didn't even need a Bios update!! Time and Money Saver. BUY THIS.
Cons: Not dual core.
Other Thoughts: 2.8Ghz makes a nice upgrade. Fast too.

Pros: It's a good B-grade CPU with low temp. Was going to use it for replacement of a potentially broken C-grade CPU I had but luckily, it was fine.
Cons: None really. Though I'd prefer a 800MHz FSB

Good upgrade for old system
Pros: using with an asus p4b with 1GB of ram. a good alternative to scrapping an old system. this CPU is a proven product, reasonably fast, runs as cool as the CPU it replaced (1.4ghx pentium 4) and will add several more years of life to a 6 year old system.
Cons: none noted
Other Thoughts: this system cost $400 to build 6 years ago and i have added 1gb memory ($130) and this CPU ($80 w/heatsink). not bad for a machine i'll get 10 years use from.

Great upgrade for a 6 year old socket 478 mobo
Pros: I've been running a 1.6 P4 chip for 6 years now in my home PC. Already upgraded to over a gig of RAM and a beefy ATI GFX card. Only thing holding me back was the processor. This is a great replacement for 478 motherboards and in conjunction with RAM and GFX card upgrades should keep most socket 478 machines current for at least a few years. At this price it beats buying a whole new computer! I have literally a brand new Dell Dimension E520 at work, and my home PC with this chip now rivels it in boot-up time and overall speed.
Cons: Can't think of any.... it is a great value on a discontinued product that gives you a huge speed boost.
Other Thoughts: First time on NewEgg and I will be back when I finally upgrade my *shudder* USB 1.1 ports.....

Works quite well.
Pros: Upgraded from a Pentium 4 2.0 ghz 400 fsb to 2.8 ghz 533 fsb. I notice when I play my games theres a noticeable difference in speed. Works as expected, I'm very happy with purchase.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: My current specs: Pentium 4 2.8 ghz 533 fsb, 512 meg of ram, one 160 gig hard drive, one 40 gig drive, ATI Readon 9550 256 meg AGP.

Pros: Nice and affordable upgrade from my old P3 system. I've been using it for three months now, and it runs like a dream and has not crashed yet.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I installed this cpu into an Asus P4B rev. 1.05 bios 1010, and was able to use all of my cards and ram from the P3 comp. The whole upgrade was only 100 dollars. My brother, also, has lent me the use of his old GeForce 6800 which he purchased on Newegg a couple years back.

A little More Time
Pros: Dropped it in replacing a 1.7G Celeron no issues.
Cons: Non-does what it says it will
Other Thoughts: I'm just putting off my next build. The MB is limited to APG 4X and 533FSB. This chip was the fastest it'll take with no issues. Next year I'll be switching to a more modern set up next year. Newegg is great

EXCELLENT FOR OLDER MOBO'S
Pros: This CPU is a great upgrade for older socket 478 motherboards that support a 533 FSB. I wish I would have gotten it sooner. I upgraded from a 2 Ghz P4, nVidia GeForce 2, and 256 MB ram, to this CPU, 7600 GT GeForce and 768 MB ram, and its like I have a new system. It really put life into this old machine of mine and now I don't have to buy a whole new PC so I can wait until better parts come out and/or current parts drop in price.
Cons: I wish I would have gotten it much sooner.
Other Thoughts: Ordered on a Tuesday and received it the next day and I was using 3 day shipping. Got to love newegg. I have been a customer of neweegg for many years and they never cease to amaze me with there superior level of promptness as well as there customer service if you do need to RMA anything. Please save yourself the time, money and headaches and order all your PC needs from newegg, you will not regret it.

didnt work
Pros: no damage to the cpu when received....all pins there, nice and save shping package, happy with it when recieved
Cons: ordered fedx o\n....but it was sent the three days ground...never got a reply from newegg when inquired about it...take the three days, you should get in two and save money
Other Thoughts: gave it four stars, because it was my fault it didnt work, my bios needs updated, dont have suport cd for old p4b-lx, and my fsb is 400 without the bios update, and this being 533fsb i was hoping more then knowing it wouldnot work.......

It works just fine...I think
Pros: The last of a dying breed. A great cheap upgrade for older boards! Runs really cool too. Never more than 80-90F.
Cons: None really. But the 2.7 Celeron this is replacing runs at full speed. This 2.8 Pentium wants to run at 2.1...BOO!
Other Thoughts: Apparently the Compaq I put this in has an OEM built board, the Asus P4G533-LA which may be a rebranded/OEM built ASUS P4GE-VM. The Celeron runs at the 533MHz bus speed but the Pentium runs at 400MHz which drops the clock down from 2.8GHz to 2.1GHz and there is no FSB/Multiplier setting to change this. At least the Northwood has more cache so it's zippier than the Celeron 2.7. And yes I did update the BIOS from Compaq/HP's site. Go figure.

memory speed beware
Pros: exelent price and newegg delivers super fast as usual. Good, cheap upgrade for aging dells dimensions 8200's.
Cons: It took a little digging after the fact but I found that my dell system had 2 different types of ram. 2x 128 pc800 40ns and 2x 256 pc800 45ns both RDRAM. And this chip did NOT like the 45ns sticks. BOO!
Other Thoughts: When I had to take out 512mb of my ram it was actually slower then the 2g chip it replaced. Also a note to dell owners, don't through out your blank ram sticks. You may need them someday.

Super Duper Double Upgrade
Pros: Easy upgrade for existing MOBOs.
Newegg had this to me in 35 hours!!!
Cons: This nearly became a negative review, I started getting BSODs about Page Faults, after Googling and running MEMTEST86+ reseated memory DIMMs and all was OK (how can badly seated cards be OK at 2.2 but not at 2.8???)
Other Thoughts: Upgraded one MOBO (ABIT BE7) from P4 2.2 to P4 2.8, then upgraded the other MOBO (Dell Dimension 2400) from Celeron 1.7 to P4 2.2. I dare anyone to come up with more bang for the buck!!

Good old- tech
Pros: A last upgrade for my sons aging motherboard. This along with a 7300gt video card breathed new life into his old soyo motherboard(and a gig of ram). This should last him a few years at least...will play all games on medium to high settings.Good value!
Cons: Old school processor.

A good old processor
Pros: This processor was great when it was first created, although there are much better versions available now. If your like me and have as 478-pin socket then this processor is a great upgrade.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Was fairly easy to install except that I had to pick up some thermal compound because this product comes with nothing but the processor itself.

P4 2.8
Pros: Upgraded my 2nd computer from a P4 423 1.7 ghz to this one along with a new motherboard and wow much faster ... noticed at startup comp doesn't freeze when programs are opening up ... I can now close them each at a time before I would have to wait for all of them to open before I could close them... runs at a cool 33 celsius on stock OEM heatsink and fan
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: good upgrade if you already have other hardware.... my old motherboard used Rambus so I didn't want to have to buy new ram so this processor was as high as I could go with my new motherboard that supported rambus... total upgrade was 140...motherboard + Heatsink fan + and the processor.... Newegg is the quickest by far in delivering ... * * * * * (Five Stars, LOL)

good
Pros: works - cheap - fits my old Intel 850 board, 533Mhz fsb max.
Cons: could be faster - no HTT - not noticably faster than my old 2.4 northwood was.
Other Thoughts: To bad Newegg can't get the 3.06Ghz- 512L2- 533fsb- HyperThreading- Northwood chip. found some used ones though.

Upgraded
Pros: I upgraded from a Celeron D 2.9 GHZ processor, that my cheap e-machine came with, to this processor. Immediately after install I noticed a very significant performance difference, in both gaming and simple desktop use. Used my existing heat sink, works perfectly with it, no heat issues. I ordered it on a Tues and it came Wed the next day @ 1:00 pm. Newegg is fantastic.
Cons: Older 478 processor so obviously not anything someone would buy if they are building a computer, but works perfectly for me and what I need it to do.
Other Thoughts: I recommend this if you simply want to upgrade from a Celeron to a real P4. Even though the Celeron was "faster" as far as internal clock speed went (2.9 vs. 2.8), it's no match for this chip, which has double the L2 cache, etc. I run HL2, CS:Source, etc. with solid consistent frame rates (60 and above) now. Before, with the Celeron, I struggled to maintain 40 FPS in most games and got a ton of choke and lag issues, mostly relating to the smaller L2 cache of the Celeron.

Pros: Decent Overclocker. Got it up to 3.2Ghz on a Abit IT7Max2V2. Could go higher but i have some mobo issues. Very stable at that speed.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Good bang for the buck. If you have the mobo, get a P4 w/ HT technology.

Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Northwood good. Prescott evil.

Northwood P4 Par Excellent
Pros: One of the Very Best CPU's ever made by Intel besides the 800fsb. You cannot go wrong with this one for a 478 socket MoBo. Runs cool and is one Hell of a Overclocker. 8 1/2 stars out of 10.. Dan
Cons: Old School - lacks the new CPU's intergrated features otherwise still a kicker
Other Thoughts: The one CPU to keep you P4 running like it always did when bought years ago.. Superlative item in every way for socket 478 MoBo's.

GREAT UPGRADE
Pros: GREAT UPGRADE FOR A 2.4 CELERON. SYSTEM IS MUCH FASTER. GAMES PLAY IS MUCH IMPROVED.
Cons: NONE.
Other Thoughts: THE IS EXCELLENT IF YOU HAVE A SOCKET 478 MOTHERBOARD WITH A 533 FSB AND YOU WANT A CHEAP UPGRADE WITHOUT CHANGING YOUR MOTHERBOARD.

Solid CPU
Pros: Very nice CPU. I upgraded my Dell I5100 from a 2.66 to this 2.8. What the heck, I know not much difference; a little better performer but you can't beat the price. This was a spendy option 4 years ago for this laptop.
Cons: None so far

no muss, no fuss
Pros: Easily installed into my old Dell Dimension 2400, and works without any issues. I run Linux (FC6) with two video capture cards and countless other software services - all without any issues.
Great product for the price!
Cons: Wasn't free - LOL!

Inexpensive Upgrade
Pros: Inexpensive upgrade that has made my comp acceptable until I buy the new one later this year. The CPU showed no damage or prior use marks.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: This was only intended as a short-term upgrade to extend the life of my 4 1/2 year old computer. Went from a 2.2 CPU to 2.8 and I have noticed a significant improvement in performance.

Terrific product and a great buy
Pros: Although this processor is of an older generation, it is a great upgrade for an older machine. It runs very cool. With my Masscool cpu fan and Arctic silver thermal grease this machine runs overclocked to 3.1GHz at an idle temp of 15C with load temps under 40C.
Cons: not as multitasking friendly as P4D, hyperthreading or core duo processors.
Other Thoughts: I am a software developer, not a gamer, and I find this processor to be very fast for all the tasks people normally do - for me writing and testing software in a variety of languages, word processing, running web test environments and just general web surfing and email.

Great
Pros: This is a great upgrade for an old system. If you own a Dell Dimension 2400 with a poor celeron like me, this is the perfect upgrade as it offers 5x more cache and slightly increased speed.
Cons: None, works fine with stock heatsink and fan too.
Other Thoughts: If you own a Dell Dimension 2400 with a celeron 2.4 and 256-512 stock ram. I recommend the following with the processor upgrade:
2x 512mb (1gb) of Corsair Value select 2700 ram.
If you play a litte bit of games or applications that need a bit more graphics:
Geforce 5500 FX PCI This will also handle DirectX 9 applications.
Currently all of these items can be found at newegg.

Old School
Pros: Had this CPU for almost 2 years and it still runs great. Runs cool, great price now, easy installation, easy overclocking.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: With my Zalman 7000B-AlCu LED CPU Cooler and some Artic Silver 5, I can overclock to 3.3GHz without exceeding 50C on full load!! =)

Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Northwood 512KB L2 Cache Socket 478 CPU OEM
Pros: Good price and ran from the beginning without any problems. It was the maximum rated cpu for an old ECS p4vxasd2+ M/B that had originally come with a 1.7 Ghz P4. I was able to run successfully 96 hours straight of intense LAN gaming at the PDXLAN #9 in Portland OR in 2/2007 along with an old ATI 9800 Pro AGP 256 meg video card.
Cons: None to speak of other than I had to RMA first CPU back to Newegg because of 2 bent pins on the CPU. They replaced it instantly.
Other Thoughts: As usual Newegg rocks!!

Very "Cool" CPU
Pros: I have a Asus P4B266 sys w/ a 1.8GHz Willamette that I built 4yrs ago. I needed a cpu boost to run a new HDTV card. This was a very smooth, trouble free install. Took abt 10 min to replace the old 1.8GHz cpu and a addl 10 min to mount a new led oversized 110mm Gigabyte heatsink that I also purchased from newegg. The Northwood idles at a frosty 26C. It has never surpassed 40C under full HDTV load. The old 1.8GHz idled @ 36C and topped out @ 60C! What a nice diff the lower voltage Northwood has made in the operating temps! Even though my mobo wasn't originally designed to run @ 533MHz FSB it gave the option to select the 2.8GHz cpu in the advanced bios settings which was my first and only stop on my way back into my OS. This mobo also has the option to oc this cpu up to 21mult x 200 max bus. 21x175=3.6GHz will prob be max on air. A 56% increase w/o oc and 15 to 20c heat reduction for a great low price.
Cons: What's not to like?
Other Thoughts: My system - 4yr old Asus P4B266, 2.8GHz Northwood @ 1.5 volts, 1.5GB DDR ram, nVidia 6200 AGP card and 160GB Sata HD. My next order from newegg will be a complete highend 680i Sli system with all the trimings. Thanks, newegg!

Best CPU of its day!
Pros: During it's prime this thing was the best. This 533 cpu is still better than any Pentium D.
Cons: For yesterday's computing.
Other Thoughts: I wish somebody would make a board with 4 of these in it...

Eggcelent
Pros: Nice and easy to drop in and work. Stays reasonable cool, even with an old dell heatsink and some arctic silver. a great upgrade if you are looking for a holdover for your 478 board till upgrading in another year or two.
Cons: nothing as far as i can tell yet.
Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for, it isn't a dual core processor, but if you are upgrading from an old 478 board and don't have the money yet to build a new system, this will work great. i went from a 1.8 to this 2.8, and preformance in games have increased noticable, as well as starting up and general all around applications. i can still play the newest games with this and a decent vido card (AGP, Nvidia 7600GT) at mostly maxed out video settings. sometimes these old processors will still work wonders.

great processor
Pros: plug and play install. It greatly improves my systems reliability. Much better than an intel p-4 @ 2.66 ghz.Newegg once again you delivered quickly with no damaged goods..Thanks!!!
Cons: I wish my system supported an 800mhz fsb processor, but at 533mhz fsb, this thing gets the job done well !!
Other Thoughts: Newegg, in my view gets me the lowest price on high quality goods and gets them to me fast.

Great!
Pros: Great Processor! upgraded from a 2.4ghz Prescott Celron. Runs very cool with stock fan and some arctic silver 5
Cons: 512kb of cache... but cant complain since it was free...
Other Thoughts: Buying the 3.0ghz 1mb cache prescott here on new egg....

Great Upgrade!!!
Pros: Seems to be about a 40% increase in speed (video converting/ gaming) compared to my celeron d 2.4 GHz that I had in my Dimension 2400.
Cons: Kinda high price for an old cpu.
Other Thoughts: Overall I am very pleased with this product.

Good upgrade for the price
Pros: I upgraded my wife's computer from a Celeron to this P4. There wasn't a HUGE difference, but there was a noticable one. As always, Newegg had it at my door next day.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: none

Awesome Processorfor old systems
Pros: Runs just as expected, vista and linux have no problems with it (haven't tried XP yet). Nice if you still have a socket 478, or for a budget build.
Cons: Not 3 GHZ
Other Thoughts: I was gonna get the 3 GHZ but newegg ran out, so I got this.
