Intel Pentium P 4531 Prescott 3.0ghz
Pros: Slipped right into its mount. Worked well from the very first start-up. Fast and quiet but runs a little warm. Installed extra case fan and all is now OK.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Excellent 3 day service from Newegg. Will buy there again.

just love it
Pros: idles around 22-25c all day long a lot better than my socket 478 prescotts. I actually had to double check the temp since prescott and 22c very rarely used in the same sentence.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: I always use artic silver which would be a good idea for everyone and you can't beat the price and the fast shipping

Excellent Processor.
Pros: This is an excellent processor! Compared to my old CPU, which was a 2800+ AMD Sempron, this is able to run all of my games and other media without any error or interruption. Also, above all, the price of this processor could not be beat. I recommend this for anyone who is bound by a strict budget but does not want to have quality badly affected.
Cons: The installation was a bit tedious -compared to a Socket A CPU- but the great performance quickly turns that experience into a distant memory. Also, if you plan to over clock I would likewise recommend buying thermal paste or a more robust cooling fan.
Other Thoughts: This CPU reminds me of something General LeMay once said: "You get more bang for your buck." Overall it is an excellent processor for a good price.

Great
Pros: I've had this for nearly a year now and it performs great; runs everything very fast and handles multitasking very well; some say it runs hot but that's how hot intel p4's run, around 115 degrees F.
Cons: No cons with this processor; great price and performance
Other Thoughts: You may as well go dual core though now days with the PD820 only a little more and the Core 2 E4300 about to drop in price.

Cant beat it
Pros: Cant beat the price. This ones in a secondary machine I use for LAN parties. Runs smooth, OCs well.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: P4P800E, 2X 10000 rpm raptor drives in a RAID 2+0 array, 3.2 intel chip running at 3.6, 2-Plextor dvd drives 1 sata 1 ide, 4Ghz of mushkin ddr500, 650W antec power, ATI capture card, 250Gb WD sata storage drive, xp pro on the raptors and linux in an 40 Gb WD, envida 7800GS video card, totall of 8 fans, in an siverstone aluminum case. There's not much I cant do with this baby!

Great for non-gamer
Pros: Cheap, rock solid stable CPU (when not overheated)
Cons: HOT,HOT,HOT esp when gaming 70deg+ playing CoH and when editing video. Bought a Thermaltake BFF* and actic silver, that helped some, but not enough. *BFF BigEffinFan
Other Thoughts: The heat makes great excuse to give this sysem to my relatives and build a new dual core! Again, no problems AT ALL when subjected to low stress day-today use.

Awsome but a tad warm
Pros: Very fast, not any problems
Cons: It might be a little hot running around 106'F
Other Thoughts: Not sure if this is a pro or a con but the computer recognizes it as 2 processors?!

Great Budget Processor
Pros: For the price, an amazing value for the performance it delivers.
Cons: Heat, but the Pentium 5X1 series can go up to 66C under load or so comfortably.
Other Thoughts: I have this processor's little brother, the 521, running at 3.7 GHz on stock voltage (1066FSB). If you are on a strict budget, but don't want to go Cxlxron, this would be your processor. If you get a Core-ready motherboard, this can hold the CPU slot until budget Cores are released.

Older Technology Better Value
Pros: Great Price on a Socket 775 that is not the cutting edge technology. Seems faster than a Pentium D 2.66 around the same price.
Cons: Heat sink can be a pain if you are not experienced with newer style Pentium 4

Didn't run hot for me, VERY cool on stock HSF unit!
Pros: With the stock retail HSF unit, and Arctic Silver 5, this thing ran on the COOL side for me. Never got above 40°C even under burn-in load. In XP it stayed around 26-30°. Yes, I touched the *backside* of the mobo's CPU socket and it was indeed cool.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: It all depends on how well you clean the mating surfaces, and apply the TIM. The thermal pad should be removed with a soft plastic spatula, and it and the CPU's top should be cleaned with mineral spirits, then dried VERY well, then compressed air blown over them right before application. Apply Arctic Silver 5 about the size of a grain of rice and leave it like that, then put the HSF unit on the CPU. (Mobo was a Biostar P4M80-M7, VIA P4M800 chipset).

Not Too Shabby
Pros: Great price for an Intel 3.0Ghz if you want a processor that is fast and cannot afford a dual core at the moment. Quick and easy installation.
Cons: The chip runs a little warm with the stock cooling fan. Idle = 35-38 C and about 53-57 C when running Sims 2 and Paintshop Pro 9. However I was able to get that temp down by installing a Tornado Case Fan (Sounds like a blowdryer, but gets the job done).. LOL
Other Thoughts: If you are worried about heat issues, either install a good intake fan or get a good 3rd party heat sink.

Great CPU
Pros: Intel, Retail boxed. Just a great CPU. As with all Intel Retail CPU's, you know what you are getting. Well, after looking up the "531" number on the Intel website.
Cons: The fan, as always is difficult to install, and as always, created a "bowing" of the motherboard. This time, I installed the fan BEFORE installing the mb in the case. This made it easier to press on the push-pins. I placed the mb on top of its anti-static bag, in the mb box.
Other Thoughts: Great Intel CPU, as always.

Really worth it?
Pros: It works fairly fast, and programs seem pretty snappy. This Prescott has a fairly hefty 1MB L2 Cache and a nice 800Mhz FSB. Paired with a good video card, it could churn out respectable framerates in many games.
Cons: It runs so hot in my case that too much intensive work will shut down the computer. I can't do any gaming with it because it is just that hot. The stock cooling is also really loud and not that effective.
Other Thoughts: I suggest getting a Cedar Mill processor rather than this. They're supposedly a lot cooler, made from a 65nm process, and have an extra MB of Cache.

Not bad for the price
Pros: Worked well. Did the Job. Needed to build a cheap replacement PC for my daughter. Temps run within range with artic silver, no OC, and stock fan/hs
Cons: Questioning the capabilities of multitasking with this, and an ECS MB, and DDR Ram.
Other Thoughts: If I wasn't a tightwad, I'd have picked up some DDR2 ram to go into the unit, instead of the old 512 stick DDR I had laying around. But, for my daughter and her IM'ing, Does the work she needs it to.

So Far, So Good
Pros: Had this for about two weeks now. Computer stays constantly on. This processor is indeed fast. Haven't noticed much overheating than average running temperature. The computer's slim casing design is well ventilated. I am using the stock fan that came with the barebone. So far it's doing just fine.
Cons: None as of yet.

Beats nearly all AMD CPUs
Pros: CHEAP - eighty-five_american_dolurs. Can't beat that. Ran some benchmarks and found that this CPU beat everything but the best AMD cpus. Now, it's not dual-core, but you can get it for under a hundred bucks! Come on! Good for WoW (see Other Thoughts). Got this and saw instant performance increase in all my games. All apps and Windows load faster.
Cons: Runs a lil hot, so you might want to consider buying a diff cooler. I haven't, but if you choose to overclock at all, definately get one.
Other Thoughts: WoW is a multi-threaded app, so being an HT CPU, you'll be impressed with this. My Sys = This CPU, ECS PT880-1.0, 2GB DDR2 533Mhz, GeForce 7800GS OC, Seagate 160 GB ATA133 (sad, i know. RAID is the next upgrade). Get it, Intel has never failed me yet.

upgrade
Pros: my first real pentium no more lag. nice ghz
Cons: runs a little hot 55-67c with intel cooler. but i can keep it in ok range. i can bench it and not get it too hot.
Other Thoughts: these things are cheap now. theyll play anything. oblivion might run a little hot but benching it doesnt do much. nice and stable. i got this in reasonable time from the shippers. practice and make sure the heatsink is on right.

Failure
Pros: Seems fast. However, I can't try it out due to it overheating with the stock fan.
Cons: I can boil water on this thing. Maximum temps of 105 C before the comp crashed completely, and that was in BIOS.
Other Thoughts: Sucks, need to buy a 50 dollar CPU cooling fan just to run it.

Nice compromise
Pros: 800FSB and 1mb L2, yet saves you a few bucks from the Pentium D's and works in mobos that will be able to hold a Core2 down the line, giving you a way to get a system on a budget now, with room to grow. Included cooling fan is of good quality and relatively quite (much quieter than my PS anyhow).
Cons: None to speak of, you get what you expect.
Other Thoughts: Will be a solid performer through the end of it's product life-cycle and beyond.

Pros: fast, cheap
Cons: very hot
Other Thoughts: This cpu ran great and super fast but it ran so hot that you deff need to buy a seperate cooler, i wish i did as it died on me. This cpu idles at 60c with proper airflow and in a room that was only 30f.

Pros: 800 FSB, Hyperthreading technology, fast without being rediculous. Great middle of the road CPU.
Cons: Gets a little warm, but stays within the temperature range even with stock cooling
Other Thoughts: My customer had me buy this CPU to upgrade her nephew's 6 or 7-year old computer. This is going to be a major improvement over what he currently has to use. I don't expect a "game enthusiast's" type pf use out of it, so it is a great CPU to use.

Pros: Runs excellent, was compatible with the 32bit XP Windows we bought by mistake, and comes with a nice large fan.
Cons: Was hard to attach, the pins wouldn't stay locked. We finally got it to stay, but it took work.
Other Thoughts: Really need to enclose extra grease with this, since it hard to install.

Fast and a great price
Pros: I bought this for my kids computer that I am building. Its fast and the new socket 775 is much easier to instal.
Cons: The OEM heatsink is a pain to instal to the motherboard. Took me a couple of trys until I got it locked down right.
Other Thoughts: Should come with instructions on how to secure to the motherboard.

Solid
Pros: This is a solid processor. Nothing spectacular but it runs well enough.
Cons: You can spend a little more and get an AMD unit that would blow this one away.

very happy
Pros: This CPU is very fast for anything in its price range. I don't know why everybody says it runs hot, mine runs very cool with the included heatsink and fan. Speedfan reports it at 28C idle and it never goes much above 32C. I have a big case with 2 extra exhaust fans and an intake fan so maybe that helps.
Cons: Fan runs a little noisy. Heatsink has to pushed hard to install, you probably want to install it before the motherboard is mounted.
Other Thoughts: Single core is still fine for much of today's software. This is a great value.

it's fast
Pros: Fit into the socket :) always a plus. very fast.. wish i could have gone with duel core but Mobo didn't support. great product would recomend to anyone
Cons: heat sink is W I D E ... i almost though it wasn;t going to fit, but it did :)
Other Thoughts: very quiet fan, runs very cool under eXtreme LoaD [ie. online, typing reports, and mp3 play back] oh yeha ... doesn't work with computer in the off position. maybe one day InTel will fix that one day ;]

HOT BLOODED !
Pros: DECENT PRICE, EASY INSTALLATION. GOOD FOR EVERYDAY CPU TASKS.
Cons: NOT FOR GAMING ! AN A64 3200 GETS 900 MORE PCMARK POINTS THAN THIS CPU. AND NOW FOR ABOUT A "C NOTE" MORE YOU CAN BUY AN FX CPU AND GET TWICE THE PERFORMANCE.
Other Thoughts: RUNS HOT ! EGGS AND BACON ANYONE ? NEWEGG RULES !

Good Chip
Pros: First off, Cheap. You get 3Ghz of speed, with 1MB L2 cache, and HT for $xx. Stays really cool with stock heatsink and Arctic Silver 5, never over 35C. Haven't overclocked yet, but I plan to, and it shouldn't be a problem. This has made a huge difference in my gaming experience, runs BF2 and BF2142 almost on max w/o problem.
Cons: None. But watch your PS, wattage and +12V amperages are things you need to keep an eye out for. Try to get a PS with at least 18Amps at the +12V rating.
Other Thoughts: System Specs: This CPU, 1GB Geil DDR2 533Mhz, PATA 133 160GB Seagate, ECS PT880PRO, GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB.

Cons: n/a

Solid CPU
Pros: This CPU has no trouble with higher end games such as Half-Life 2. I have overclocked mine from 3.0 to 3.45 and it was stable. I like the Socket T over the 478 for the fact that there are no fragle pins to deal with
Cons: The stock cooler is scary to install. You haft to push the mounts hard to get it to seat in the mobo properly. I later switched to a thermaltake big typhoon and it droped my temp 10 deg. F
Other Thoughts: I own a P4 530 and a 540. ive had the 540 for 3 or so years now and its still chugging along. replaced stock cooler with thermaltake big typhoon for Overclocking.

Great processor
Pros: Great speed, great price, love the new "socket T" CPU.
Cons: None known.
Other Thoughts: My first time using the new "socket T" processor and I love it. They have designed it to fit so much better into motherboards without worrying about breaking pins. The CPU fan snaps down so easily with the turn of a screwdriver. Intel is THE BEST CPU out there!

nice processor, stupid fan
Pros: It worked. Love the HT, can mutlitask like mad. Only freezes when the windows backup utility is recovering my files. No clue why....
Cons: Took me forever to get the fan mounted to the mobo, had to unscrew the mobo and remount it to give enough room for intels new mounting system to work. Had to trash my nice zantec copper heatsink/fan because it doesnt work on the new mounting system.
Other Thoughts: Be wary of intels random implementation of different mounting methods. No use having to throw away a nice heatsink like i did.

great
Pros: fast fast fast, very overclockable
Cons: thermal paste included is terrible cpu can go up to 85C while heat sink stays very cool.
Other Thoughts: buy new thermal paste and get rid of the stuff that comes with it, I don't belive this is a heat sink problem

Graet CPU
Pros: Runs well. windows boots very fast. and programs snap right up. seems to run pretty cool with stock fan. 40 43 degrees C under load, 30 to 33 when idle.
Cons: Stock CPU cooler is a royal PIA to install, IT took about 20 minutes. poorly designed but it seems to do the job.

Great chip for linux
Pros: Linux compatible.
Much faster than my old Celeron 400MHz.
Cons: none so far, but I'll monitor the temp for a while based on others comments
Other Thoughts: Works great with Linux. I'm going to try installing a 64-bit linux shortly and see how it responds.

awsome processor
Pros: Awsome price, runs great, huge step up from my 2.66 celeron D
Cons: none!
Other Thoughts: you will want to buy a new heatsink and fan so you don;t have heat problems but mine idles at a cool 32 and peaks at an also cool 44c i used a Zalman CNPS9500 led and it cools it perfectly it is a little spendy but well worth it

Better than what I had!
Pros: 3.0gHz & HT (1MB L2); coming from a 2.2gHz vanilla P4; this thing is lighting fast! It's cheap. It's a box item; so it came with a heatsink/fan. Newegg got it to me quick.
Cons: Socket LGA775; so I needed a new board to run it. HOT! It wants to run over 80 degrees C at load. With the board running at 80 degrees F, this can't be good. It's 1-2 year old technology; so obviously, there is better stuff out there.
Other Thoughts: Teamed this up with an ASUS N6800 AGP 512MB gpu and a SATA 1.5 HDD and it plays most new games just fine with medium settings. It gets my 'Oblivion approved' vote.

Perfect Pixels
Pros: No dead pixels whatsoever!! I'm impressed at the lack of dead pixels. I've never seen a Pentium 4 with better image quality. Can't agree more with the below users.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I can't stress enough how little your chances are with getting dead pixels on this product... Actually I can stress; your chances are ZERO!!!! Smells great too.

No Dead Pixels
Pros: Same experience as the dude below - no dead pixels! And the images ARE clear! Intel really has solved their CPU dead pixel issues! And their image clarity issues!
Cons: Maybe one dead pixel would have been nice...
Other Thoughts: It only has one heat setting, which is a problem because sometimes I like to cook waffles with my new Intel processor and waffles we all know require a lower heat setting than toast. Maybe I can add another fan to my nine case fans, that might get me into waffle territory. No dead pixels! Woot!

great
Pros: its very fast that's all i can say.
Cons: the only problem i found was that it runs very hot i had to purchase another cpu cooler because of it.
Other Thoughts: i would suggest anyone buying this processor to buy another CPU cooling device

Cant Complain
Pros: Everything...
Cons: None...
Other Thoughts: Ive been running my system rigorously non stop for 2 days now after installing this chip and the temp still hasnt gone above 40c. I dont find it to be that noisy either. Very decent chip for the price newegg charges.

Nice CPU
Pros: This is a great CPU runs well and alot faster then what I used to have.
Cons: You have to be super careful when socketing the CPU since it's the new LGA 775 socket and the CPU Fan and Heatsink that Intel gives you is of a horrible quality. I myself purchased another fan and heatsink from newegg, I would reccomend getting a copper one somewhere else on newegg.
Other Thoughts: Overall it's pretty good and of Intel's quality...I myself am a gamer and play World of Warcraft and it seems to hold up pretty well with my computer maxed on graphics. I run 1gig of Corsair DDR ram, Radeon 9600XT 256mg video card, 3.0ghz P4 and a DFI LanParty motherboard. If your into gaming and don't want to spend alot then this isn't a bad processor for it.

Great, but seems like a heat generator
Pros: Very fast and powerful, easy to install, and comes complete with a fan and heatsink. The price for the product is very decent, considering it has 64-bit support.
Cons: Seems like a heat generator. When idling, I'm getting 50°C (122°F) temperatures and up to 60°C (140°F) during intense operations like gaming. The fan is also quite noisy and can be heard quite clearly over music of a moderate volume.
Other Thoughts: I advise against overclocking due to the high heat generation.

Awesome CPU!
Comments: It's an awesome CPU if you get it for what it's worth, and that is a bill. If you like pancakes, toast, thanks giving and a healthy breakfast, with well donne eggs, then this is the CPU to get. It requires a good power supply and some savings to pay for the power bill. All in all it's awesome! Bottom line is that I can't believe that there was someone who actually went for it and bought it!

Extreme
Comments: Just purchased this processor for a client build. I am very impressed with the speed and ease of installation. Heatsink and fan are HUGE, but temps are a little high. 49-50C. Will check again after burn in. Very impressed.
