A revolution
Pros: Extremely fast for this price range Great value Boots up macbook snow leopard in like 15 seconds.
Cons: 80GB is a little tight fit these days. If you like to collect tons of DVDs or MP3s it might not be the drive for you.
Other Thoughts: This really is a revolution in terms of speed and value. A lot of SSD aren't much faster than a normal hard disk. This one is way faster and doesn't cost a ton more than other SSDs.
Note that the Kingston SSDNow X-25 is the same drive just rebranded so if this one is out of stock you can always get that one.

Fast
Pros: The effect on day to day performance is noticable. When I go to a non-SSD based system it feels like something is wrong when loading programs because they load so much slower. I keep thinking those systems have a problem because I'm used to this one. At least till I remember they don't have this SSD drive in them.
Cons: None. Performance to price ratio and considering the timing of this product in the market I think it is a great value for enthusiasts who want a performance boost.
Other Thoughts: I'm speaking from an enthusiast standpoint. But even if you're a business or home office user if you know how to use multiple drives set this up for your OS and use a large SATA drive to store your documents and for backups.

Unreal Performance Increase
Pros: This is the best performance boost I have ever gotten from a single upgrade. Very Fast!!!
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I recommend the retail version for the extra money. It comes with the hardware you need to mount it in a standard 3.5 bay.

Awesome
Pros: Amazing performance. I did not run benches and stuff because I don't give a hoot and others have done this before. I threw this in my brand new ASUS G51J laptop with a mobile Corei7 and it boots up exactly twice as fast as the other 7200RPM drive with Win7 on both.
Within 1 second of the desktop being visible I can right click or launch an application, which loads insanely quicker than hard drives.
Cons: It is not bigger and cheaper =)

fast
Pros: Works great, very fast. Easy to install.
Cons: The price. ouch
Other Thoughts: Works well with everything. Surprisingly small in size, thought they shipped wrong one at first. If I were building a small fast system, this drive would be perfect.

Feeling Lied To
Pros: SSD MLC for a good price, write speed 250MB. Great addition to my i7 rig until i starting using it.
Cons: Read Speed is only 70mb ***When you first use it***, after installing the os and using it for over a month the write speed and read speed dropped significantly.
Other Thoughts: I feel that I was taken advantage of. I purchased this drive specifically because I read that intel was working on firmware that would improve the write performance and would implement TRIM....and as far as we know INTEL has no plans of releasing a firmware update to remedy this known issue. They have however decided to release firmware for their generation 2 drives....Thanks INTEL for rewarding your loyal customers.

still like mine
Pros: was using 2 raptors in a raid0 but switched to this foe lower noise level. overall performance is on par with my old raptor raid but when it comes to quick seeks, (like DB or loading up photoshop etc) this thing flies. they say you're not supposed to defrag these drives but i have just to see how it would perform. wow. i recommend everyone try it at least once just to see how insane it is. yeah, i know: "BwOBtMQfG! you defragged an SSD and now you're going to burn in eternal BSOD." and if you think that's crazy, i run my OS in ext3!
Cons: supposedly, running ext3 and defragging will make the harddrives die. but so far mine still seem to function.
Other Thoughts: they've come down a bit in price since i bought mine a year ago. but that's a good thing!

Good while it worked.
Pros: Super fast, quick Windows 7 install.
Cons: Arrived with Windows Vista already installed on it, with Internet Explorer bookmarks and all, I never though I'd receive a used hard drive. My computer stopped recognizing the SSD after 3 weeks. Took it out of my tower, put it in a external enclosure, still not recognized. Past the 30 day mark.
Other Thoughts: Oh well, waste of time and money. Wait for SSDs to be the norm before investing again.

Fast and silent
Pros: Fast and silent
Cons: Cost
Other Thoughts: Using the X-25 as the boot drive. The install was unremarkable. Over the years I've run various SCSI arrays and ran the first 10,000Rpm and 15,000Rpm drives when they were released. I've run every successive generations of Raptors which were great in their day. Unlike all of those products the X-25 is silent and it's allowed me to build a high performance system that is so quiet you can't tell if it's on or off.

Think I got a bum unit
Pros: Very fast drive. Great read times.
Cons: Mine seemed defunk. Had issues right out of the gate installing Windows 7 on the unit. Install froze up 2 times. 3rd time it finally managed a complete install. After that my system would just freeze up randomly. Finally reinstalled Windows 7 on my old HDD, and have had no problems since. Anytime I try to copy data from the SSD drive to my HDD, the system will freeze up mid copy. I must have a bad unit, but it's now been 38 days since I got it. (waited another 2 weeks after receiving for windows 7 before I installed the drive)
Other Thoughts: Guess I'll try to exchange with IBM if I can.

Cons: None yet.
Other Thoughts: Amazing.. really.

Totally worth it!
Pros: The HDD does what it's made for Have an Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 2.16GHZ CPU on my laptop with 4GB DDR3 RAM boot time for windows 7 on a regular 250GB 5400RPM HDD SATA2 drive was about roughly between 1.5-2.5 minutes. Now it boots within 30 seconds, plus as soon as I see the Start button, I can open 5-6 applications without a hitch. Apps open like they were saved in memory. Anti Virus software works well, easy to index drives. copying files have never been faster.
Cons: The hard drive is a luxury item at the moment. Even though I purchased it when it was $240, still per GB cost is too high. We've got MP3 players bigger than 80 GB today. Eventually this should get cheaper.
Other Thoughts: Although this is an expensive piece of equipment, if you have a little cash to burn and appreciate performance I would say go for it. Totally worth the $300.

Pretty Cool
Pros: Great, fast!, reliabilty. Thoroughly researched this subject of SSD drives and the INTEL was the way to go for MLC drives.
Cons: Price is what you would pay a few years back for hard drives but I don't know that you can call it a real con. Best used as a boot drive with just reading data for long term use - move temp, page, other files to a regular drive to keep this one running fresh and new. It isn't an SLC drive. It isn't a gen 2 Intel drive which will support TRIM commands.
Other Thoughts: Make sure you do your homework on your PC/Motherboard before upgrading your HD needs to this bad boy. Make sure your BIOS/MB supports AHCI and NCQ. Make sure you install those drivers when installing Windows etc.

Very Nice!
Pros: I put this in my new Dell Studio 1737 laptop. I didn't really use the laptop much before I replaced it's drive with this but from the little use I did have the response times aren't even comparable. I'm very very happy with this Drive.
Cons: Price and space... but for the speed increase it's worth it

Smoking Fast
Pros: Once I finally started my install Vista Ultimate installed in under 5 minutes with two of these drives in Raid 0. They are lightning fast on bootup and first program use, they have great read/write speeds.
Cons: Price for now but I bought Raptor drives when they were 300 bucks each and this drive puts Raptor to shame.
Other Thoughts: Newegg needs to either bundle this drive with a 3.5" drive conversion or at least let you add one while purchasing the drive. I ended up using Lian-Li drive convertors.

Nice change
Pros: I loaded Vista 64 with M/B, V/C and M1 Killer Network card drivers and utlilities in less then a hour. (fastest time yet) I expected this to be slow on the writes for a fresh install, and was pleased with the the minimal time it actually took.
Cons: Doesnt come with a adapter/rails for desktop applications. I know I could have ordered the icy dock, I just forgot to put it in the cart.
Other Thoughts: I couldnt put cost down as a con, I wanted a SSD and reviews and tests for this brand were good. I was going to forego this item and re-use a 300gig VelociRaptor Completely satisfied with my decision to buy this instead.

Faster than my 7200 rpm
Pros: Cut my install time in half, Opens programs such as IE and Firefox in half the time. I love the no heat!
Cons: My computer boot time seems to be only about 15 seconds faster. I was hoping for more.
Other Thoughts: All my new boot drives will be solid state from now on.

Great at first, not so great months later
Pros: Initially very fast, easy to install. No noise, low heat output.
Cons: After a few months of use as a OS HDD it now pauses for up to 5 seconds on a semi regular basis during reading/writing operations. Boot times are now approx the same as when I was using a 10000 rpm drive for my OS.
Other Thoughts: I would rate this as a great drive if the pauses and boot time issue didn't exist as the noise/heat improvements over a regular HDD are fantastic.

Died within a few months
Pros: Very fast. Quiet. Low power.
Cons: Froze up and died.
Other Thoughts: I would love to love this drive, but it died and took my operating system with it. Its controller registered in the BIOS, and the drive could be erased (well the FAT could be cleared). However, the drive could not be repartitioned or reformatted.
Intel gave me an RMA, but I have had to install an operating system on another drive while waiting for a replacement. I hope that this failure is an exception rather than the rule. I anxiously await the replaced drive.

may not get the boose you expect
Pros: my laptop: HP/Compaq nw9440 Windows 7 Beta; Vista Home Premium prior Intel Core 2 @ 2.16 GHz / 32 bit
I'm sure it's a great drive for the appropriate laptop or desktop.
Cons: My laptop, which is 2 years old, did not get any improvement in performance. No improvement in time required to boot. My machine cannot handle performance after boot. If i set the processor to full speed with the new drive my machine overheats (even sitting on a cooling pad) and shuts off. Prior drive was an ok 7200 rpm drive and the machine didn't overheat at full processing speed. So there would be a performance difference with the SSD if my machine could handle it. Do they make a liquid cooling system for laptops? Haha.
Other Thoughts: I could install it in my desktop... but that's not what i purchased it for.

Wow! new life for my laptop
Pros: FAST! My laptop used to take forever to do anything. The disk led was almost always on solid :-( and CPU usage was in the low percentages. Running a virus scan effectively crippled the system; eg, launching a second browser window could take 3+ minutes!
Now with the SSD the disk led only flickers on a little bit. When the system is busy CPU usage is in the high percentages and the disk led is barely showing. Virus scans are now so painless that sometimes I run them just for the heck of it!
Cons: expensive
Other Thoughts: The X-25 is probably 2-3X faster than my laptop can really use so my guess is that a slightly slower / less expensive SSD would probably be fine.

Fast with Intel chipsets
Pros: This drive is very fast but will not work as a OS drive in an NVidia chipset. Specifically a 680i SLi. But, will work as a secondary drive with fast read/write speeds. I put it in a Intel x48 board and a way it flew. Running 64bit Vista Ultimate and this thing is fast. Vista boots in 13 seconds and is instantly ready. When it hits desktop all the sounds of vista play at the same time like everything loaded instantly and simultaneously. I get a constant 220mps in HD Tune.
Cons: Won't work on 680i board
Other Thoughts: It's fast that's all I really care about but there are some bugs to work out as there is in every new technology.

Not so good now...
Pros: Fast, quiet, runs cool, small foot print
Cons: Poor cost per Gig, small size, no TRIM support (G1 models) and now with Neweggs price increase, did I mention poor cost per Gig? But the worst is A TOTAL FAILURE AFTER 3 WEEKS.
There have been some very strange price fluxuations on Newegg with this drive. Wait them out until the G2 unit is available.
Other Thoughts: This unit was the hot ticket until it failed. It gave some indications; 2 boots with Vista 64 warning me that there were disk errors. When I started to trouble shoot begining with some basic (Windows based) diagnostics, Vista wouldn't recognize the SSD as a hard drive, suggesting a re-boot might clear it up. 3rd boot and the Intel unit was TOAST, black screen after BIOS. I stuck another standard WD drive in it and loaded Vista back on to check everything else, and everything booted up just fine confirming the drives death.
I'm giving this a single egg to balance out the original 5 eggs I initially gave this product. Neweggs return policy on these is quite restrictive, 30 days exchange ONLY. So now I'm navigating the Intel goliath for support. I was issued a case # and promised an RMA via email. That was 4 days ago with no RMA in sight. I now have to get back to Intel to follow up on the RMA process.

Excellent
Pros: The read speeds on this drive are insane. I run this as one of my secondary drives, only put my games/important programs on it and they load VERY FAST. Access time to programs are lightning quick. Frame rates are more stable. Games and maps load very quick. To give you an idea, it takes me longer to put my headset on then to load a map on crisis, cod4, bf2, ect. Noiseless, colder than my other disks.
Cons: SSD drives are not for everyone.
Other Thoughts: This isn't a hd you want to constantly be writing to and deleting from. Put your games and programs on it, OS if you really know what your doing and want to hassle with that for a few seconds off your boot time. If you can afford it, it will be a huge increase in performance vs any drive with moving parts including the last raptors in raid, but don't go cheap on the graphics/cpu to get one.

peace of mind SSD - mean and green
Pros: combines green system values with high performance: incredible system boot times, and applications open up almost immediately. reduced power consumption. utterly silent. i also must admit that i take pride in the tinkering required to set this up right in my system. i have a 3 layered storage strategy - ssd for os and applications, velociraptor for temporary files and my main working stuff, and then 2 terabit sized drives for mass data and backup. supposedly it is also very shock resistant, but i don't make a habit of dropping stuff like this...
Cons: first a silly one - for this price they should include 2.5 to 3.5 to 5.25 conversion brackets, come on. or at least tell people they need to buy additional stuff. but here is the biggie: you must optimize OS setup. these things slow down on write cycles over time, and that is a fact. but you can mitigate the effect. takes some tinkering though. the fact of the matter about SSDs for the time being, trim or not, is that you have to be aware that they are amazing repositories for your boot stuff and applications, anything you *read* from - but i say keep your data off them. *both* your personal data *and* (very important for system responsiveness) temporary files your OS keeps tinkering with. so you need to be willing to spend time (a) setting up a smart multi-layered storage strategy and (b) optimizing your system to take advantage of that. and that takes a fair amount of tinkering. sure - you can ignore it, but then you are not taking optimal advantage of technology available to you.
Other Thoughts: if you know what you are doing SSDs will give you blazing startup times for your OS and applications, *and* keep you happy long term. but you have to be aware that you need to optimize your system configuration for SSDs: optimize parameters, and set up a "layered" storage strategy. oh, make sure you have an APS if you are hardcore optimizing for peformance - data loss can result from some aggressive recommended write settings, ok? so i say enjoy this new performance frontier - it is amazing. but it comes at a cost (i will not say $, because it's our choice to spend as early adopters), namely quite a bit of tinkering to optimize your system so it is not only fast, but (a) stays fast and (b) stays reliable.

Best from the worst
Pros: Best SSD out there.. peace of mind makes it worth it..
Cons: it was $225 a week ago, the other day $290.. now $359
just ridicuous.... i cant think of the right word to describe what is going on in this store or with intel...
Other Thoughts: VERTEX, SUMMIT and SSD NOW are good alternatives

Great size, speed and Value
Pros: 7.7 on the windows 7 Experience index for Hard Disk Drive (Max 7.9) Incredible boot speed, easy to install and and you get 80gb at a great price!
Cons: Not really a con, but would have been nice to get a SATA cable.
Other Thoughts: Read Spead 250 mb/s enough said!

Putting things strait. TRIM not a must!
Pros: This drive is fast and with the 8820 firmware internal fragmentation is not near as big of a deal as it was. TRIM isn't all that necessary for this drive!!!!
Cons: Still wishing for faster write speeds.
Other Thoughts: Ok for those of you who think they need TRIM you have no idea why you need it and probably don't know how it works. Not sure if I can quote from another review site but here it goes.
"There has been some buzz / rumors about the older X25's not receiving a TRIM-enabled firmware. With the 8820 firmware performing so consistently even after being heavily fragmented, there is not as much of a need for TRIM support. The G1 drives will only benefit slightly in cases where the drive had been completely written (i.e. full) in the past and was then dropped back to a relatively small amount of content. In that case, the difference seen would only be in random write IOPS. Keep in mind that a G1 X25-M in this worst case condition still dominates the competition in random write IOPS."

enough to raise jealousy...
Pros: performance. definitely the biggest single performance boost I've ever had. Puts my i7 and 4870 to shame. almost as good as the g2 in real world environments, save for long term write performance(and I don't care about that much)
Cons: I had to go through a lot of stuff to configure my OS to optimally use the drive. Set my browser cache to a virtual RAM drive and reconfigured a number of other things...
Other Thoughts: my tech illiterate step father is a dell fanatic. He didn't care how much better my system was spec wise, and in terms of configuration because his was "faster" he's now trying to say that the only reason things load faster for me is because I don't run as much as he does... his system never passes 1GB RAM useage... mine's hardly ever below 4GB... I have THAT much stuff running.

Fast drive
Pros: Single word: Fast.
Cons: Bang-for-the-buck is high, but not quite where I'd like it to be.
Other Thoughts: My X25-M is currently residing in a Lenovo S10 where it does a pretty good job of loading things ridiculously fast. This obviously is not the best use of the drive, but I wanted to try out an SSD on a non-critical computer before putting my gaming rig and workhorse laptop at risk. Needless to say, I am very pleased. Intel is apparently not updating these G1 drives with TRIM support - hence the four eggs as opposed to five, but once Windows 7 drops, both my laptop and my desktop will likely be getting the 160gb G2s.

Awesome
Pros: After the BIOS, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 boots in about 7 seconds, logged on to desktop in 10. This Windows 7 install was by far the fastest Windows installation I've ever seen. SQL Server 2005 Developer x64 install took just over 1 minute, although this was from a virtual DVD drive. I know write speeds on this drive pale in comparison to read speeds, but still are quite impressive. As far as read speeds, things just happen, there's no waiting, well maybe for internet resouces.
Cons: No trim command on the G1 version.
Other Thoughts: I probably should have waited until the G2 ones were available, but my old machine was dead, needed to do something.

Amazing disk
Pros: The read speeds are very quick. Some solid states perform poorly with small random writes, but that is not the case with this one. Both large contiguous I/O and small random I/O are much faster than with a conventional disk. No spin up time! The write speeds are also quite good. Seek times and consequently latency are very low. The disk is also more reliable than the previous generation of drives because there is zero chance of mechanical failure. There is no adapter required to use this device in a desktop computer.
Cons: I would say price, but the speed of the drive makes up for it's somewhat smaller storage capacity.
Other Thoughts: It was a good choice for me because it lowered my boot time by about half a minute. Copying programs from this disk into RAM goes quite quickly, which is definitely a plus.

Purchased for development
Pros: Faster bootup/shutdown Faster launching Visual Studio solutions Extreme improvement for build scripts (NANT) which involve copying files Super Extreme improvement for Subversion Updates, Commits etc... Faster global searches
Cons: Doesn't build VS solutions any faster Doesn't run unit tests any faster (NUnit and MBUnit)
Other Thoughts: The drive is large enough to have Vista Ultimate, VS 2008, SQL Compare, SQL Server 2008, Office 2007, and all of the other typical apps you would run as a developer.
I bought one of these to see if it would improve development time. I found that I saved 20-30 minutes a day with the improved speed which will pay for the drive in less than 1 month.
Since then, I've purchased 1 for each of the developers. This is their primary drive. The original drive is now used for personal files and extra storage.

Customer Service = Poor
Pros: None
Cons: Misleading suggestion to buy as a replacement for the Generation 2 version of this drive (with Windows 7 TRIM support, and overall faster performance) which is listed at the exact same price, but is out of stock
Other Thoughts: NewEgg customer service did a bad job on this one. After reviewing my previous review, which also noted the misleading firesale tactic - I was contacted, and then promptly ignored.

Boots Windows 7 from power on in less than 20 seconds, complete shut down from clicking "Shut Down" in less than 5 Seconds.
Pros: I, like all others who bought this drive know full well that it would cost less than half of what I paid for it in less than 6 months. If for no other reason than Moore's Law states that a bigger, better HDD is destine to follow soon behind any current drive. That being said, I atleast did so for one reason.
This Motha is as fast as it gets. 3 things that I have been impressed with are:
1. Decrease in Boot/Shutdown times; I can hit my power button and be fully loaded into Windows 7 (64 Bit) in less than 20 seconds. I click on "Shutdown" from my Start Menu, and it takes 4 seconds for my computer to be completely off. Wow
2. Install times; If you blink, you will miss it. Download iTunes, click install, and it is done in no time. It is amazing to watch.
3. Application launch/Game Load times; Click on MS Office 2003 and in less than 1 second, its ready to go. Open your favorite game, load your saved data and bam, your playing. (Even large RTS s
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Buy this for bragging rights now or wait until later when the price drops but do buy this drive.
Read all the data. You will see that this is the SSD to buy. Not the others.
Oh, and if you do set up a Stripe RAID array, please e-mail me and let me know how fast it is.

Amazing start-up
Pros: Windows 7 starts up in about 25 seconds, including about 8 gadgets. I've been very impressed with how snappy programs start-up as well.
Cons: I get freezing and pausing on any hard drive cut/copy/paste operations. I bought this drive specifically because it was not supposed to have these issues. When the freezes start, ctrl+alt+del doesn't work, num lock is unresponsive, etc... Then 5-30 seconds later everything continues. I'm considering returning it. What good are fast startup times if its pausing constantly.
Other Thoughts: Windows installation was very slow and difficult. It took 45 minutes and would fail right at the end repeatedly. When installing on an old hard drive, it finished on the first try in about 30 minutes.

Looks nice, but DOA
Pros: Didn't have a chance to use it.
Cons: It died after about 5 minutes of use. I formatted it, then rebooted into an imaging tool, and the drive was dead.
Other Thoughts: Newegg has been good with the RMA process. The drive is on its way back.
I'll post a new review once I've received the replacement.

Blazing Fast
Pros: Super fast! Setup was super easy. Intel offers reliable firmware updates for future support. Very nice for when I get Windows 7.
Cons: Price. Not much space for the cost. While this in itself isn't worth dropping an egg.... To use these SSDs in a desktop computer you either A: have to just find a place in your tower to safely place the SSD as they are very tiny or B: Do what I did and purchase a 2.5" to 3.5" SATA & SSD converter which can also be found here at Newegg. (if you are interested, search for Icy Dock)
Between the lack of actual space and the fact I had to spend extra to properly mount the drive in my computer (for the price we spend, such a converter should come standard the way the Kingston drives do!) -1 egg.
Other Thoughts: This was my first computer build and had never worked with SSDs before. It was so easy to set up it was as simple as making sure all the cables were plugged in properly and making sure that the BIOS has this drive set to #1 (if using more than one hard drive) Loads windows and applications at record speeds. I do expect things to slow down a bit after some usage, but when Windows 7 comes out, there should be a firmware update from INTEL to let these support TRIM and once that happens, we can expect these speeds all the time!
If price is an issue, give it another year or 2 and they should become more reasonable. I'm just going to use this SSD for now as my gaming drive (albeit I'm very limited to what I can have on here) for now and I plan on purchasing another in the future when I can get more space for less cash.

Good Golly
Pros: It's a SSD for goodness sakes. Came with the latest firmware.
Cons: price per gig still not good.
Other Thoughts: performence delta between platter HDD and SSD's is large. Between single SSD and raid0 SSD's not as great. But it doubled the space which is always a good thing.

Great Stuff
Pros: Hey! its a SSD. came with the latest firmware update. Now I have two in raid0
Cons: price per gig is still a problem.
Other Thoughts: Great upgrade delta from HDD's with discs. Not so much going from single to raid0 but it doubles the size...which is always good.

Is this not suppost to be faster?
Pros: Replaces Mtron 32 MB disk for same price. This disk was so exciting I swapped out the boot disk for 6 computers at work. 32 MB was just too small however. I didn't want to add a regular hard drive due to noise and heat and I was running tight on space with all my applications in some of my computers.
Cons: Swapped the 80 MB Intel for my Mtron but now my boot times are 2-3 times as long! Shutdowns take at least 2 times longer. Can't explain it. Hdtune shows it is clearly faster but it feels noticably slower. Programs run the same once they are up and going.
Other Thoughts: The Mtron does write faster and I wonder if there is some writing going on with the boots and shut downs.

Don't get stuck with an obsolete drive!
Pros: These were once the best consumer drive you could get. You can probably find this very cheap, very soon.
Cons: THIS MODEL DOES NOT SUPPORT TRIM!!! Your performance will degrade significantly over time without it, and Intel has announced no plans/firmware updates to allow support of this vital function, which will be available via update with Windows 7 and the newer generation of drives.
Other Thoughts: You want to buy N82E16820167016 when it's in stock, not this, unless Intel does an about-face and starts supporting TRIM on their older models. Do yourself a favor, don't get sucked in paying for the generation 1 drives that don't support vital performance technology. Wait for the new model drives to come back into stock.

SSD Speed?
Pros: Decent price. Neat.
Cons: System (Asus G50 Gaming Notebook), really does not seem a lot faster. Do not know if I am not doing something right or I am complaining about something that has already been answered, but since installing this drive and moving the seagate momentus 250, 7200.3 Hard disk to a secondary data drive, now when I play games the longer I play games the games seem to stutter and have random and more an more frequent slow downs. Mouse clicks take 20 seconds to register and the games become almost un-playable. Operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium 64. If I exjt games and reboot and restart games they will be more playable for a while, but alway eventually slow down and require a reboot. It seems to be the SSD's fault, as nothing else has changed. When the Seagate was the only drive, none of these slow downs and problems occured. I can find a lot of info on the net about how to configure Windows XP to avoid this stutter like condition. But I thought Intel didn't suffer from it.
Other Thoughts: System is Asus G50 Gaming Notebook P8400, 4 Gigs of Ram, Intel X25-m 80 Gig SSD, Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320 Gig HD, Nvidia GeForce 9800GS, 15.6" Screen.

Intel SSD - Just Plain Amazing
Pros: purely amazing speed. Have it loaded on MacBook 13" and the apps load as fast as if you had switched to them (windows alt-tab speed). Adobe apps which always take a while to load load very quickly as well and working on the laptop is sheer smoothness now. Drive is also key if you are running virtualized machines as i am. I can't stress enough how important removing the hard drive as a bottle neck is in that respect. Very highly recommended drive.
Cons: My only complaint is the price per GB of the drive. Having paid 300+ at the time for only 80GB but this is the cost of adopting new technology and having seen it in action it is a compromise I don't regret having made. At the time of this writing Intel has dropped prices on it's drives significantly and has also introduced faster drives still. Future looks bright ;)
Other Thoughts: The more early adopters there are the faster the prices will plummet. I am looking forward to these drives making their way into the corporate realm as they will bring significant benefits to virtualization and dabases (email databases and vmware systems). The price is still pretty high but competition is solid.

Best SSD I have owned
Pros: Very fast, easy to install, just drop in and go unlike some that need tweaking to maximize performance. I had the OCZ Vertex and this is much better and now with the price drop they are really close to the same price per GB. I had 4 Velociraptors in RAID 0 and the single Intel SSD beat them easily across the board.
Cons: Price per GB is higher than mechanical drives, but well worth it.
Other Thoughts: Best performance and ease if you have Windows 7.

Best SSD
Pros: Easy plug and play unlike some SSD's that need tweaking to maximize performance. I have tried the OCZ Vertex and while they a re nice, you do have to do some tweaks to maximize performance. With the price drop and the fact that you can install it like a regular drive (Windows 7), this SSD is clearly the winner in my book. Once you use an SSD you will wonder why you didn't get one earlier. I had 4 Velociraptors in RAID 0 and a single Intel SSD killed it across the board.
Cons: Price will be high per GB, but it has gotten much better, especially with the new released Gen 2 pushing prices down across the board.
Other Thoughts: Best if you use SSD with Windows 7 to see the most benefits.

Won't support TRIM firmware upgrade
Pros: Cheaper price on older intel drives, but ...
Cons: These 1st gen drives will *not* be upgradeable to support TRIM commands in Windows 7 and other future operating systems. Make sure that you understand what that means before you buy one of these older versions.

Pros: This is 1st generation. Not 2nd. They dropped prices on 1st so they can get rid of inventory. There has been a delay in releasing 2nd generation until Intel fixes a bug.

Works great
Pros: Fast, reliable, it fits my needs for a testing project.
Cons: Obviously anyone would notice the cost per gigabyte, 80 GB for a hard drive is fairly small. I was using two raptor x's in raid 0 forming 300 GB of hard drive space. It was very fast, I don't think I really noticed a difference in speed, I might say things load slightly faster, but I was expecting more.
Other Thoughts: It seems to work great as an operating system hard drive, I had some troubles with it during my initial install, but it seems like things have literally been 'broken in' in the sense that things are more free. It's a good little hard drive, it makes zero sounds and it is fast.

just what it says on the tin
Pros: Just what it says on the tin - quite high contiguous read/write bandwidth, *unreal* smallfile performance.
Cons: expensive... but you get what you pay for.
Other Thoughts: This drive is quite fast at what conventional hard drives are best at - contiguous large reads or writes - but that alone wouldn't be worth the cost/GB. However, the *smallfile* performance - where conventional HDDs fall flat on their faces - is literally like nothing you've ever seen before.
Expect to cut your boot time nearly in half, and - far more importantly - expect, the very second you see your desktop, to be instantly able to launch and run applications without slowdown. Your jaw will drop the first time you see it.

Bad timing
Pros: Single best upgrade I have had in years. I never felt my computer behaving so significantly faster until I've put this cute little box in my Thinkpad.
I think I could describe the whole speedup with just one sentence: I'm no longer aware that there's a hard disk in my computer.
To explain this statement a bit, I no longer *ever* have thoughts like "oh my Gosh this is going to take a few minutes to copy", or "oh no I have to restart my NetBeans and Apache and SVN, I better go have a smoke and come back when it's done".
Just like I stopped thinking about memory when I beefed it up to 4GB, I stopped thinking about hard disk when I bought this item.
Cons: Price per GB, of course.
Other Thoughts: I just wish I waited a few weeks more - I could buy G2 version now for much less money!

Breathtaking Performance!
Pros: Incredibly fast! Small file random write performance is still better by far than most other SSDs available. Other SSDs have better sequential performance, but this intel SSD is faster for typical desktop usage patterns. It "feels" faster than other SSDs because of the superior random write performance.
Cons: Price, but the 2nd gen version is a steal.
Other Thoughts: This is the single best computer upgrade I've ever experienced. I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on an EXT4 partition on this drive and it only takes 15 seconds from the time I press the power button until the desktop is fully loaded and completely ready! The BIOS is responsible for what little delay there is. Even big applications load almost instantly.

Pretty fast
Pros: There's no other way of describing it, this drive is really fast! I bought it last week was absolutely satisfied.
Cons: Only if I did not know better... Intel released a newer version of this harddrive with 35nm technology for $225 retail. So guys... there's a faster & less expensive model (still 80gigs of storage) on the market, try that one!

Awesome
Pros: Fast, windows boots faster than the mother board posts. Apps jump on the screen in comparison to regular hard drives.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Make sure to update the firmware. This step is very important for these drives.
I use this drive for a Windows 7 OS drive and it easily holds the OS and several programs. Once the price drops I'll probably buy a second and raid 0 them.

No load times.
Pros: (Almost) No load times. I put my favorite (and most graphic-intensive) games on this thing, and i get to laugh at LANs as everyone is staring at the initial loading screens and I am waiting in the lobby.
Cons: Price, obviously. Also, if you want to put a SSD in a desktop, you will have to make due with the strange size of this thing and a lack of places to attach it. There are adapters sold that allow you to put in into a normal HDD bay, but they aren't worth it. Just screw it in any old place, like I did.
Other Thoughts: A totally unnecessary piece of hardware for most people. I bought it because I had some money to burn, and wanted to laugh at a total lack of load times.

Still the best
Pros: You need to look deeper than the published throughput numbers you see on newegg. As far as random writes go, what affects the user experience the most, intel is still king. I replaced another brand of SSD (that supposedly had better throughput numbers) with this one and the improvement was dramatic.
Cons: Size and price. Slightly slower than SLC I guess.

Flawless
Pros: 270+MB/S solid/Stable, works well as advertised, I’m very happy with the performance. I recommend this for anyone who really cares about speed and performance. Everyone should be happy with the B/M from this drive.
Cons: Vista Ult is near 50gb fully updated...most of the drive...but not intels fault. Price is still insane, BUT you get what you pay for.
Other Thoughts: GREAT product, but may be best to wait for some size increases and a price drop.

Excellent
Pros: Fast, light, no stutter. Great product and worth the premium price.
HDTune: 120MB/sec Average
Cons: Price.
Other Thoughts: Running Windows 7 64-bit RC1 on a Dell Latitude D820 laptop. SSD performs incredibly well (no stutters, little slowdown)...takes longer to POST than boot into Windows.
Also using VMWare Workstation 6.5 with a Win XP 32-bit machine...unbelievable performance increase. If you've got the money, buy this product.

Pros: Words cannot describe how happy I am with my Intel X25-M 80GB. Yes, it's expensive, but it is more than worth it. The value of this upgrade was bigger than my upgrade from an E7400 to an i7 machine. I'm not kidding. My Windows 7 desktop appears without the "Welcome" screen ever showing. On a fully loaded computer too, not just like 10 minutes after installing with no start-up programs there. Games load incredibly fast. Textures are loaded far before I ever see them. Programs launch INSTANTLY. I could click 5 different programs right after booting up and they'll all be ready within 2 seconds.
Cons: The price still puts it in the enthusiast range, but I expect prices to fall as SSDs are perfected. These will eventually become mainstream boot drives, no doubt.
Other Thoughts: Sometimes I find myself restarting my computer when I'm bored just because I like to watch it boot.

Decent for your desktop
Pros: My computer is never slow.
Cons: It's not any faster, except on average.
Other Thoughts: I picked this up to serve as the main HD of my system, and farmed all media storage off to a dedicated NAS appliance. My system is a Linux system, and Linux does a pretty good job of caching the disk, so most of the time the difference between a slow disk and a fast disk isn't noticeable.
The basic change is that the computer now feels like it ALWAYS has the disk cached. Always. The slow path is now as fast as the fast path.

No JOKE!!!!!
Pros: don't be fooled....no other SSD's compared...i tried 3 different brands before picking this up....no joke....all went out on me... even if you optimize for an SSD
the intel has worked perfect from day one
i'm a hardcore AMD guy.....it took ALOT for me to purchase this bein it's an INTEL product...i'm so glad i did...works perfect....couldn't ask for more....it's worth the price
i fully load Vista 64 in under 20seconds...it's crazy
i can open any adobe CS4 program in under 5seconds....i save so much time...if you can afford and INTEL ssd...get one...one of the best upgrades period!!!
Cons: since i installed the drive i get random screen flicker....i dunno if it's the SSD causing the problem....it never did it before...so i dunno .....most likely it's the video card...i know it's not a PS prob...being i'm 250watts over what i need
Other Thoughts: get one i promise you wont be disapointed
also....i'm using the SSD drive purely as a boot drive for vista and my programs...
i keep all my data on a seperate RAID array

Wow in an Acer Aspire One
Pros: I put one of these in my Dell a month or two back and now I don't need a new computer. Better than going from 1Gb to 2Gb, better than going from 5400 to 7200, Spent 300 and now I don't need a new $2000 laptop. Just bought a second one for a client to go in an Acer Aspire One. The drive and memory cost more than the computer, but it's now 55 seconds from pressing the on button to being logged onto the wireless network with IE started and displaying Google
Cons: Replacing the 160Gb drive in an Acer Aspire is not that fun.

Pros: Installed this in a late 2008 macbook 2.4 with no issues. Upon first boot a huge increase in speed was noticed. After using the drive for a while, I will never go back from a SSD, especially in a laptop. Intel is still a leader in the SSD market. Good price, no lag, no stutter, no issues at all.
Cons: I don't have more of them. Drive did not have the new firmware on it when received.
Other Thoughts: If you are looking to get a SSD I would highly recommend the intel x25-m. It has been fast since day one and since the new firmware it is even faster. Intel definitely did this right. I will continue putting Intel drives into my machines.

Incredible!
Pros: Incredible performance gains for me using as a boot drive and for doing builds.
Cons: Price and size -- but the speed is worth it. I probably will go pure SSD on my next machine.

Pros: This drive is fast, been using it on my MacBook Pro 17" for about two month now. not a single problem. My apps load in about a second or two, reboot takes about 15 seconds. Worth every pennies, using on:Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 4 GB Bus Speed: 800 MHz Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00 SMC Version (system): 1.28f2
Cons: None, you definitely get what you pay for.
Other Thoughts: You will need to update it to its latest firmware if you want maximum performance from this drive.

quadrupled laptop speed
Pros: laptop is way faster, the hard drive light used to be on and the computer would be slow when starting up, running visual studio, outlook, many other programs. Now, the hard drive is never the limiting factor. Also, it actually works. It's quiet as heck, much cooler than my old 5400 RPM Western Digital.
Cons: price, (but you can see that for yourself) you look at the packaging and realize how cheap it probably is to produce, and how in a couple of years, these might be super-cheap
Other Thoughts: I couldn't wait - I bought this myself and put it in my work computer. A co-worker and I used Clonezilla and a USB-SATA II enclosure to copy my original HDD to this drive. It took under 40 minutes to copy, we swapped the drives and it started up with no problems!

Stalls
Pros: It works very well almost all the time.
Cons: Mind you, I never have the HDD turn off, but when I bring the PC back from screensaver (and the monitor is off, but not in standby mode), it does not respond. I am running the drive in IDE mode, as I have seen that recommended over AHCI mode to correct this error, but the past 10 times or so I have had this pause (sometimes less than a minute, usually under 5, sometimes I just hit the reset button) that I have no idea how to get rid of, and I have updated the firmware. I am running Windows 7 RC1.
Other Thoughts: I wish I knew how to not have the stalling / pause because this is a great drive.

Fast!
Pros: I am very happy with this purchase and the performance. Easy installation. I just inserted the MS Windows 7 (7.0.0 Build) DVD that I had ripped to a DVD. And the system automatically ran and installed the the OS without a hiccup in just over 15 minutes. PC Boots up in seconds. Applications load up immediately.
Cons: None, really other than high cost. But that's to be expected with the newest and greatest technology.
Other Thoughts: I didn't notice any gaming gain in performance while playing COD 4 other than the game loads faster.

Installed in my Macbook Pro
Pros: After reading all the reviews and hype about Solid State Drives and how Intel was leading the performance/reliability curve I decided to buy one for my macbook pro. So far I'm extremely impressed as it has made a huge impact in performance for my machine.
All my applications load considerably faster and my boot time is at half of what it used to be...
Cons: None really... was kind of a pain to install in a macbook pro - but that's hardly Intel's fault
Other Thoughts: Very satisfied with the drive overall - Saving time on nearly every operation really adds up to a lot in the long run if you are a heavy laptop user

Intel SSD
Pros: The SSD is very fast. It is much smaller and thinner than I expected. It works great on my Asus Z8PE-D18 motherboard.
Cons: Only time will tell how reliable these drives are, but so far, it is excellent.

Juice up your PC Silently
Pros: The best drive controller on the market so far. Great drive read rate and random read/write My PC running the Win7 RC boots up in 15 sec and shuts down in 5. No need to hibernate Oh, and it is effectively silent
Cons: Win7 takes up a lot of space to install which leaves less for programs and files Expensive compared to other SSDs of the same capacity. Then again, the random read/write is much better.
This was the most expensive part of my PC by a large margin.
Other Thoughts: Works with this hardware: AMD Phenom 720BE ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 G.Skill 4gb DDR3 1333 XFX Radeon 4850 Windows 7 RC 7100

Died after 2 months!
Pros: Seems to be the best SSD on the market. This drive breathed new life into my '06 MacBook Pro. Boots fast, application are snappy and VMs start instantly.
Cons: After two months of running it died. Leopard can't fsck it and the disk utilities on the install disk can't verify/repair it. I'm past the newegg 30 day return policy so I have to RMA with Intel.
Other Thoughts: Running these in a RAID 1 configuration would probably be fine, but my confidence in running a single SSD as my OS disk has been shaken.

Sweet!
Pros: Totally and completely silent! Fast! Tiny! Runs cool.
Cons: Cost. Good lord, compared to a TB drive, cost per GB is awful. But I did catch it cheaper on one of Neweggs email deals. Size. The 80 GB only translates into 74.5 GB of real storage. A full install of Vista ate up 26 GB, or 1/3 of the disk. I don't plan to store any data long term on this drive.
Other Thoughts: I LOVE this drive. As long as it doesn't burn up in 3 or 4 months, I will remain very happy with the unit. FAST!! I could only fit one into the budget (desperately wanted to RAID 0 a pair) but benching it w/HD Tune showed it transferring 135.9 MINIMUM and peaking at 219.8 MB/sec. Other posters complained of little/no speed increases and reading through the reviews, I started to build a picture that older rigs that were running ICH8R and lower were probably bottlenecking.
Specs: Apevia X-QPack2 matx case, Asus Rampage Gene II mobo, i7 920, 6 gigs Corsair XMS, Intel X25-m, Radeon 4870, WD 7501aals, Samsung Optiarc, Sabrent High Speed internal card reader, Vista 64.

Best Laptop Investment
Pros: Awesome drive for notebook. Too bad I have Lenovo T61p that limits the full bandwidth so don't get all the speed this drive can deliver. But that is not the fault of the drive. On desktop got near 235 read / 70 write. My laptop still is easily 3 to 4 times faster overall. Office 2007 apps start in a blink of an eye now (all running Windows 7 RC). I notice I a worry less about tossing the laptop around than I did with spinning media, which makes using it much more friendly.
Cons: Price, but once you use it you never knew how you lived with spinning media. Gave up 20G of spinning media to go down to 80G SSD, but well worth the difference as well IMO!
Other Thoughts: Can only imagine 12 months from now what SSD will be available and the price they will be at then. Still best enhancement I have made to my work laptop! Don't notice any real

Make Big difference
Pros: Very significant speed improvement in virtually all Downloads and page actualization. New Programs can load anything from 10% faster to 10x faster depending on ther downloads own capabilities.
I don't download movies or Audio content much but surf many multi-image pages as for art auctions etc. Pages with 50 thumbnails, etc.
I'd say 2-3x faster on those. Always looking for what the biggest impediment/bottlenecks to page-actualization/Insta-pop is, and this is easily the best way to improve it.
Cons: None yet
Other Thoughts: The slower your computer is- the more worth it this is.
'Expensive' for a Drive (got 'Sheel Shocker' price tho), But CHEAP for a speed improvement that used to take 2 computers and 4 years to achieve!

Worthwhile upgrade
Pros: Being used in a unibody Macbook. I upgraded from a 7200rpm Western Digital Black and can see a dramatic difference. Considering the price it was a great improvement to the computer.
Cons: Size, but considering speed in comparison to other SSDs versus price it is a good deal.
Other Thoughts: Was shipped and received within 3 days. Great price and service!

Update to previous review
Pros: This drive blows every other drive out of the water. I replaced a 320GB HDD in a Dell XPS 410 and went with Windows 7 at the same time. Boot up in Vista on a HDD: 2-3 mins. Boot up with X25M and Win 7: 30 seconds from power button to internet.
Cons: Drive space is an issue so I also run a 500 GB HDD on the desktop for everything else.
I had to turn off RAID so I could update the firmware, but I turned it back on after the upgrade and had no issues.
I get a BSOD error message when I try to put the computer to sleep. Not sure if it is Win 7 or the drive itself. I put the computer to sleep, only to find out later that something failed and the computer shut off. I get the BSOD message when I turn it back on,, but everything works fine.
Other Thoughts: I also have a SuperTalent drive in a laptop and there is no comparison in the speed, the SuperTalent drive is extremely slow compared to the X25M.
I will probably upgrade my laptop to this drive when Win 7 officially comes out.

Wow
Pros: Amazingly fast. Bought this for my XPS M1710, and despite being limited to SATA 1.5 I still get the full write speed, and a little over half the read speed...a large improvement by itself. But the real improvement is access times. Everything is instant now in response, programs all open without delay.
Cons: The price compared to a platter HD. But it is worth it!
Other Thoughts: Prices have come down on these a lot. Intel really makes solid SSDs. I have no regrets with this buy.

Rocks in RAID-0 w/Adaptec Raid Controller
Pros: I tried a competitor's drive, and I had to return it because it did not perform as advertised. This is one of the few SSD drives (perhaps the only MLC drive) currently validated by Adaptec to fully adhere to the SATA 2 spec timings. Some other drives say they are SATA 2 compliant, but are not validated by any independent authority. High-end RAID controllers need high-quality drives, and in the MLC SSD crowd, the X25-M stands alone. My Adaptec 5805 w/battery backup and kernel parameter cache=7 (cache all writes) can handle anything I throw at it.
I can do a make -j8 on a standard Linux on an i7 w/Ubuntu and get it compiled in under nine minutes, which watching online video, with 90-100% CPU utilization, and the computer experiences negligible slowdown. It's a perfect balance for my i7 development workstation. Where competitors drives of higher capacity with allegedly better write performance caused the system to just lockup.
Cons: Of course, more capacity would be nice. Also, they should offer mounting hardware for PC chassis for free with a combo.
Other Thoughts: Just try and beat Newegg prices... impossible for Intel drives. And the customer service I received on the phone was outstanding. If you use Bing you may get an extra discount.

Best upgrade I ever bought.
Pros: Windows 7 runs fast with this drive. No waiting for grinding, overworked hard drives. Best upgrade I've ever had.
Cons: Small storage space. You still need to have a mechanical hard drive and you have to plan what goes on the ssd and what goes on the mechanical. It is expensive for its storage size, but totally worth it.

Wicked Fast drives...
Pros: Bought 2 of these drives (one for the wife, one for me). Got her drive installed with Win7x64 RC, and it installed in 15 minutes, and boots in about 20 seconds. Her applications load quickly, and other than a little stuttering here and there (sometimes in Outlook 2007, sometimes in IE8), the drive is fast and flawless.
Cons: My drive is fast, but is experiencing frequent "freezes", wherein mouse/keyboard I/O sticks (when I switch back to my old HDD, everything's fine). Also, on average after about 30-45 minutes of usage, the drive stops responding completely. No BSOD, the system just pauses indefinitely (left it for 45 minutes the other night, and it never recovered). I'm starting a support case with Intel to see if I can do some troubleshooting, but I'm not sure how bad or good the RMA process will be yet...
Other Thoughts: Speeds are great, but 50% failure rate for me is not. I'm just glad I got the bum drive so I don't have to hear about it from my better half... :)

super fast
Pros: I've had an X25-M in my desktop machine for several months and just picked up another one for my HP 6910p notebook when Newegg had them on sale for $289. As others have noted, there is a noticeable speed improvement even when moving up from a fast 7200rpm hard drive in the notebook and a WD Raptor drive in the desktop.
I do development work with lots of open applications and use of VMware virtual machines, and the Intel drives provide almost instantaneous response when multi-tasking, where with the old drives Windows would often pause for a few seconds at a time while the I/O caught up. As a result, I find that I'm able to focus more on my work with fewer interruptions waiting for the computer to catch up.
Cons: Intel is the leader in this space right now, so it's really hard to go wrong with an X25-M especially as the price continues to come down.

Firmware upgrade
Pros: Read previous review
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: There is a firmware upgrade (8820) for this drive. You can find it on Intel's web site.
To see the firmware version you have, you can download a file called SIW.exe that gives extensive information about your computer. My drive had firmware version 8610.
Just thought you would like to know?

Huge improvement vs laptop HDD
Pros: Super fast! Recognized easily by windows XP, completely blows my wife's old laptop HDD out of the water.
Cons: Expensive!
Other Thoughts: Installed this on my wife's laptop which had a 120gb 5400RPM hdd stock from dell. Startup used to take about 2 full minutes to be functional. Now, it takes about 35 seconds to hit windows, and is functional in only a few seconds. Application load times have also dropped dramatically, and the laptop is WAY more responsive than it was previously. Overall, totally satisfied even with the hugh price tag.

Great Purchase
Pros: I bought this drive on sale ($289) for a netbook (asus eeepc 1000he) upgrade. I was skeptical about the performance of ssd's but this drive certainly changed my mind. Everything is much faster with this new drive, loads are instant, boot time reduced, works great with win 7 rc.
Did some light benchmarking in atto, was getting about 60-70 for writes on average, 130 reads. Not the advertised speed but the limitation here is in the netbook not the drive. I couldn't be happier with it so far.
Intel makes good quality products and flashing new firmware on this drive is controlled by an iso dvd you burn if you ever need to update it, unlike some other drives where the process is complicated.
Cons: Price was better but still not great. None other than that so far. The limitations are due to my system not the drive.
Other Thoughts: If you are thinking about getting a drive, do the research, read the reviews and make a well informed decision. Make sure you get the right drive one for your system and needs.

Wish I had more!
Pros: AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING read speeds! HDD Benches were off the chart which floored me.
leveled wear on the transistors so long life expected there ... even with 100GB written data per day for 5 years and you should be in business still (intel specs).
Cons: NONE! oh yeah ... now I want 2 of these in RAID-0 on my PC ... so yeah the CON is that I don't want to spend 600 ... oh but I DOOOOOOOOO ... *sigh*
Other Thoughts: compared to a RAID-0 of 2x7200 rpm sata's it had comparable write speeds (now consider this is on a laptop without a dedicated HDD controller) ... awesome upgrade for a laptop ... seriously the best!

Outstanding
Pros: Well, it's fast. Boots my laptop in less than 15 seconds. I am very pleased with its performance.
Cons: Cost - unless you do not mind spending extra $ to increase the speed of your laptop. If I had to do it again, I would.
My thanks to the reviewer who said to not go cheap and get this drive.
Other Thoughts: Woke up one morning and thought I should order that IBM SSD from NewEgg. The door bell rang, and it was the UPS guy with the drive (right size and everything). How does NewEgg do that?

Worth every penny
Pros: This drive is worth every penny. I installed iTunes 8.2 in 18 seconds on a brand new system. Normally that install takes around two minutes.
There's simply no single thing you can do these days to improve your computer's performance than to upgrade the hard drive. And there's simply no better hard drive available at this value. The only reason you'd want an SLC is if you were in a highly transactional system. But this will support 20gb of erase/write a day for 5 years before it goes bad.
Cons: Cost. Literally the cost is the only downside.

Better than Velociraptor
Pros: I have 3*10k raptors on raid0 on evga classified motherboard. I just got 2 of them on newegg 'shelling' for 289.00 which is cheap as of today. With just one day owner ship, i feel its better than my previous configs. But still i need to do benchmarking etc.
Cons: Price. But i know when i bought. I will update this if i have any issues going forward.
Other Thoughts: The first thing i did is updated the firmware. I burned the firmware iso file to a cd and updated the ssd's. Please make sure you set your BIOS to 'IDE'. For somereason it cant find the drives with my bios set to either 'RAID' or 'AHCI'. I'm seeing on with raid as 149G space total with raid0.

X25-M: New er systems only
Pros: Very fast, and works well (when it works)
Cons: Did not work with older P5N-E SLI motherboard. I suspect it was because the motherboard was only a SATA I non-intel motherboard. It was detected correctly, but speeds were slow and performance was terrible.
Placing this drive in an older machine without SATA II was a mistake!
Other Thoughts: I knew the drive itself wasn't broken after temporarily installing it in my laptop. So I emailed intel support, who replied after a few days that they knew of no compatibility issues. That motherboard has always been a little flaky, and not wanting to go back on the upgrade, I instead decided to upgrade the motherboard to an Asus P5N7A-VM, and I haven't had any problems since.

Cheap on 6/8!
Pros: Fast! Check out the Tech Report's current review of SSDs!
And with the Deal I just found on NewEgg today at 11:23PM, WOW!
$289, free shipping! Price that makes sense!
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Still pricey per gb, but I remember paying $300 for a 300MB hard drive 15 years ago when I started my current job.
So Can't beat that!
