Pros: Nice and fast. I get roughly 100 GB/s read and write under Linux using XFS filesystem.
Decently quiet.
Cons: None yet. My drive has only 1844 spinning hours on it, and 13 starts, according to smartctl, so it's too early to know how it will hold up in the long haul.

Green Storage
Pros: Quiet. Energy efficient. Reliable. Fast enough for my Windows Home Server.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I am a fan of Western Digital hard drives. Overall, they have been more reliable for me than Seagate, and quieter too.

Great for TIVO HD
Pros: Quiet, records like its supposed to.
Cons: None yet
Other Thoughts: It's rather quiet you have to get w/in a few feet in order to hear it and when you do it's barely noticeable. It records on 2 HD tuners and there hasn't been any problems yet. I've had this drive for 8 months and no problems. I paid $120 so $70 is a great deal for a Tivo HD upgrade.

So Far So Good
Pros: Exactly what I wanted - 2 large-ish SATA drives to mirror in Win XP for data redundancy without using a controller for RAID 1. Both running at same time are fairly quiet.
Cons: 8 hours to format in its entirety. Eight. Hours. Ugh.
Other Thoughts: So far... so good...

Great, at first...
Pros: worked for two weeks, quiet
Cons: This was my 2nd one from Newegg; 1st one lasted less than two weeks, had to RMA to the egg. The replacement lasted just over 4 weeks, two days outside of the 30 day return policy of newegg, now I have to deal w/ a Western Digital RMA. Both drives have done the same thing - start spinning up, then down, the the dreadful click, click, click of death :(
Other Thoughts: Newegg was helpful, but now I have to pay once AGAIN to ship it back, this time to WD - drive is costing me more shipping costs than what it' worth!

quiet, big and cheap drive
Pros: quiet, speed is not slow, does what it's supposed to do
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: people should quit complaining about different calculation of GB.

Good drive, big on a budget
Pros: Drive is suitably fast, lots of space for the money, and is relatively quiet.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: There are no connectors or cables since this is OEM rather than a retail box; since there's a couple of reviews that mention it, make sure and plan your build accordingly.

works
Pros: It works. Plugged it into an external case and it's been working fine. I don't have any extra requirement so this seem like the perfect choice for the price.
Cons: none so far.
Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a simple backup drive, this is great.

Not bad...
Pros: Large capacity, somewhat lower power usage (although not much) than fixed 7200 rpm drives. Has been reliable so far.
Cons: A little bit louder than I would have liked. I set out to build a nearly silent mini-itx box and, at no load, the loudest component is this hard drive. It emits a subtle buzzing noise that is mildly annoying.

Pros: Lots of space for the price, after formatting I'm going to get about 715 GB out of this.
Cons: None yet.
Other Thoughts: Getting cables was a mess. I had to make two separate orders to get the right cables, each of them with absurd $8 shipping and tons of waste to go along with it. I blame my inexperience more than anything, but why does Newegg charge $8 for shipping something that could fit perfectly in a small bubble envelope? It's too expensive and there's too much garbage to go along with it. I thought the point of information technology was to avoid such needless physical waste, but someone in the shipping department apparently feels a lot different. Newegg should at least make an effort to bundle these with SATA and power connectors, the cables are cheap enough as they are, they could very easily put it all in the same box.

BEST VALUE
Pros: $0.0833/GB is the best deal right now
Good Speed (72MB/s random read, 15ms av read access)
Faster than a 500GB WD Caviar I bought 1.5 years ago
Energy Efficient
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: If you want blazing speed (and have $230) get a 300GB VelociRaptor

Great Drive for Backup
Pros: Extremely quiet drive, great GB/dollar ratio, great for backups and drive image storage
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: It's a hard drive, what's more to it? Since it's variable 5400 to 7200 RPM (Actually, it's basically 5400 RPM) and 16MB cache, common sense dictates it is designed for storage. If you need a OS drive, get the Blue or Black series. Maybe even the Velociraptors or SSDs. My purpose was for backups, and it is the perfect drive for it.

Works great
Pros: Drives worked great right out of the box. Tested them by themselves and also in a RAID-0. I am leaving them in RAID-0 right now and they are performing nice and fast.
Cons: Nothing right now

Quiet, Cool, Cheap
Pros: Mass storage that is quiet and runs cool. If you need an application where both those qualities are needed, take a serious look at this drive. This drive is also inexpensive!
Cons: Perhaps not the best drive for an OS installation.
Other Thoughts: Might pick up a few more of these to use with an external dock.

Good HDD~
Pros: Good, fast and quiet HDD. Partitioned it to two drive w/o any problem. And yes, it is Green.
Cons: Not 1TB? XP
Other Thoughts: At first I heard some sound after finishing the setup, but later I found out that it is not the HDD but is one of the case fan that is creating this sound.
Sometimes lags, but I am pretty sure it's my old A8N-E motherboard problem. Going to switch to M3A78-EM when my phenom arrive.

Exactly what I want
Pros: I bought this drive so I could replace a Seagate 7200 RPM drive in a fanless aluminum external case. Since this drive runs at 5400 RPM, the case stays a little cooler.
Cons: None at this time. WD makes good drives.
Other Thoughts: I probably wouldn't choose to use this drive as a data drive. It transfers data a little slower.

Great Basic HD
Pros: Energy efficient, large capacity, Western Digital quality.
Cons: Formatted size is WAY less than 750GB. More like 680. I know it's normal for the formatted size to be smaller than the listed size, but almost never by this much. WD should get nabbed for false advertising.
Other Thoughts: Other than cheating you on actual size, Western Digital has made yet another great HD. Hopefully this will last me for quite a while.

Quiet, sufficient
Pros: Sufficient performance, silent, cool to the touch.
Cons: Theoretically slower than other drives, but that's not the point of these anyway.

Not especially fast or reliable
Pros: Low power draw when idle. Was a good price point when bought.
Cons: Wd has a good return policy and offers a cross ship which I like, however, they seem pretty slow to actually ship the replacment drive. I have had 1 of 4 drives fail so far in a raid 5 arrangement. The data is not heavily used, so performance needs are not high, but I am basically offline until WD ships the replacement. A week so far. A call to the vendort got them to ship a slightly different model so I could get back my redudancy repaired and dat back online.
Other Thoughts: I did'nt really care much if this was the fastest drive, so I am ok with that. I did care about the green factor and I care a lot about reliability.

Solid Storage Drive
Pros: I have two of these drive set up in a raid 0. I bought these drives back in May of '08 and still going strong. Great storage space for the price. Low operating temperature while under load. I really have to listen hard to hear these drives while they are functioning. I use these drives for my home server which mostly has hd video on it, which I stream to my xbox along with my room mates computers. I have had two xbox's and a computer streaming, each was playing a seperate hd movie, with ease. 5400 or 7200 rpm i dont care that is more than enough speed. I should note that i dont have my operating systems running off these drives.
Windows Vista 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit AMD 6000+ Windsor 4 gig Corsair DDR2 PC 6400 HIS ATI HD2600XT ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe 2 750G WD Caviar GP (Raid 0) 1 150G WD Raptor (OS) 650 Watt Corsair Power Supply
Cons: Wish I would have purchased now. At $69.99 instead of $99.99. But what can ya do?
Other Thoughts: Note: you do not lose any hard drive space when you format the drive. The hard drive has 750 GIGA (that is 10^9) bytes. Windows or whatever os you use calculates a GB to be 1024 MB. The hard drive manufactures follow the SI system and the operating systems do not. I mean wouldnt you, if you were selling hard drives, show the SI measurement instead of how the operating system calculates it? If you right click on the drive it will show that it does in fact have 750*10^9 bytes. I dont know why people think a hard drive would lose space after a format but they dont.

750 or 698?
Pros: spins quiet, works well, holds stuff
Cons: come on, it says 750 and i know there is always a decrease but over 50GBs of non existant space is a little much

Best Bang for Buck
Pros: Now, I don't fully understand this 5400 to 7200 rpm thing. All I know is that I didn't buy it because of speed, I bought it for storage and it's the best bang for buck. I had no problem installing it and computer had no problems recognizing it.
Remember, buy this HDD for the storage, not speed. Go for the SSD or Raptors for speed if you really want a fast drive.
Cons: None unless you consider formatting it under Vista a con. It took me awhile to get it formatted so it'll work probably. That's the only con I see.
Other Thoughts: Remember, buy it for storage.

Perfect Backup or Data drive
Pros: Cool running, quiet, decent transfer rate, power sipping
Cons: Transfer rate could be better.
Other Thoughts: I use one of these in an external enclosure as a backup drive. It works perfectly as such as backing up doesn't need a particularly fast drive and power savings is needed. I wouldn't use it as a boot drive, but as a data storage or backup drive ut fits the bill.

Only very quiet after adjusting AAM setting
Pros: Bought this for my HTPC and was happy with the temp and fine with the performance
Cons: but disappointed with the noise!!! UNTIL, I used a utility to adjust the AAM setting to quiet mode. ONLY then was the drive quiet while doing seeks. If it wasn't for this setting, I would be very disappointed with the noise level.!

good storage
Pros: good storage drive. very fast, and plays any multimedia w/o any burps. fast cpu and bus speed always helps.
Cons: wish i had room for two more.
Other Thoughts: i use the WD 640Gig Black for boot drive with all my installed apps. this 750Gig formatted in only a few minutes using the WD data lifeguard tools. i'm going to add one more 750, and the new midtower is stuffed.

Great drive for storage quiet and cool
Pros: Drive is nice and quiet and cool running. 750gb is a great size for a backup or storage drive. Price was great and shipped fast.
Cons: 5400 RPM which is fine for storage or backup purposes but I would not recommend it for OS use or as a primary drive where speed is a concern. Drive is slower than my old 7200 RPM barracuda's.
Other Thoughts: 5400 RPM? c'mon WD make a green power saving drive that is 7200 RPM. We all know 5400 drives are going to be energy saving over 7200 nothing new about that. 5400 is old tech a 7200 green drive is what the market needs. It's Kinda misleading to market it as 5400-7200 because it only runs at 5400 not variable speed like they imply. Though still a good drive for storage but I would like to see a 7200 RPM one that saves power.

Great drive
Pros: Extremely quiet, idle power consumption is low. Sequential read rate is pretty good. Don't know about seek time performance.
Cons: OEM version doesn't come with SATA connectors or power adapters.
Other Thoughts: Owned 3 of these for 1 year, never been happier with a hard drive purchase. I've got 4 running in RAID in a myth box, and we can't even hear the drives. (With the case out or open, we can hear seeks but even then the volume is low.) Quietest hard drives I've ever owned.
Used WDTLER ("TLER-ON.BAT" makes read error time and write error time both =7s). Works great in RAID array, haven't had any failures yet for the past year.

Bad experience
Pros: None! Well, Newegg did pay for return shipping and refunded my money.
Cons: Ordered two of these; one was DOA-just made clicking noises. The 2nd would not complete a format. Tried both on two different computers. Had not bought WD in a while; probably will not again.

false advertisement
Pros: even though doesn't have eightpercent still massive
Cons: did not have true ammount of gigabytes says has 750 but in reality only has 698 ther is no excuse the binary measurement is 1024 megabytes to a gigabytes it is not reasonable to say just because they say its 1000 megabytes doesn't make it true they should be sued for false advertisement western digital that is not newegg

Not That Happy
Pros: Great price point.
Cons: Two of the four drives I ordered were DOA. This has raised some serious questions about WD's quality control and New Egg's RMA process is tedious at best. I'm hoping to have better luck with my replacement drives once they arrive.
Receiving the replacement drives could take up to 4 weeks. What a pain!

Great for HTPC
Pros: Quiet, low power, WD quality. This HD is perfect for a HTPC with its variable 5400-7200 RPM speed. I dont care about the cache size or performance since all I wanted was something that wouldnt stress my Shuttle's power supply or make a lot of noise.
Cons: Theres absolutely nothing wrong with this drive as long as you understand its not meant to break any speed records.
Other Thoughts: I dont have any more comments other than if you are building a HTPC and plan on putting a lot of videos on it, spend as much money as you can on as big of a hard drive as you can. No matter how much space you THINK you need, you will always need more. Think a 500 GB is good enough, get a 750, think a 750 is enough, get a 1TB.

Superb HDD
Pros: It's a Western Digital. Runs super quiet, has plenty room for all my programs and games. Was very easy to install. Western Digital has always made excellent HDDs. I've tried a few others because of price and none of them can compare. For price and reliability, Western Digital is the way to go.
Cons: NONE
Other Thoughts: If you want more than your money worth, buy this HDD.

They work
Pros: They're large capacity hard drives... They work... What more can you ask for?
Cons: N/A
Other Thoughts: Due to the massive quantities these are massed produced in, one can expect defects in some. Maybe even batch recalls at rare times. Can't blame the company for everything.

Best drive for the money
Pros: Lots of space, awesome price, sips watts, very responsive when utilized as a network drive.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Bought two of these and strapped them to a HighPoint RocketRAID2640X4 running RAID 1 under Ubuntu Server 8.10. Performed a backup and restore from this setup to a Vista box over the network and was impressed with how fast it went.
Western Digital, HighPoint, Ubuntu, and Newegg rock!!

Great size for the money
Pros: No issues so far. Massive size and good speed. It was overkill for the build it went in, but the price was so good I couldn't resist. Tons of space for the money and the speed seems very good as well.
Cons: None that I've seen.
Other Thoughts: How can you go wrong? It's not a Velociraptor, but you still can't lose with Western Digital products.

Runs Great - Good value for the $$$
Pros: Drive is currently in an eSATA box and it is running so cool that the Aluminum sides of the enclosure barely get warm even after several hours of continuous back up and file copying...
3 Year Manufacturer Warranty is decent for a mid-range drive like this one is because if this drive lasts longer then 6-9 months, it will likely live a long and productive life as the majority of failures with Hard Drives happen within the first 6-9 months of purchase.
Cons: None so far. {/crosses fingers}
Other Thoughts: This drive seems to be a decent choice for an eSATA solution. It runs cool and quiet so it doesn't matter if this drive is "the fastest" or not, it does the job for what I needed it for, and it does it pretty well....so far.

report: used as primary drive
Pros: wanted to make as green a PC as i could and compare it to my typical energy hog builds - some say these "green" WD drives are sluggish on the uptake - but i could only fit one drive in this tiny case (retrofit FIC with an Intel 945GC Mobo and atom 330 running Vista home basic and Office 2007) speed is great, can't tell any difference from WD Black label
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: partitioned 3x250, Vista install handled that, have to format D and E afterwards btw: using a power adapter didn't seem to bother it at all Item=N82E16812816015

Garbage
Pros: Size
Cons: I ordered two for a 1U server. One would not complete a full format due to bad sectors. The other had messed up CHS values and the drive was detected as a 375GB drive or something similar. Due to this, the performance of the drive was horrible.
Other Thoughts: I understand some drives simply come DOA. BUT, two drives arriving bad is just garbage. I'm RMA'ing these and ordering two WD Black 1TB drives instead.

very nice
Pros: great price when on sale! Quiet. I am using it to store DVD iso images and works perfectly for this.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: plenty of speed for my purposes. Hardest part of the install was finding the non-raid drivers to activate the additional SATA ports on my MOBO. My socket 478 board is SATA1 and the drive works fine with no jumper.

Click of death after 2 weeks
Pros: Decent price/gig, 5400rpm drives are perfect for mass storage like I intended to use them for.
Cons: Bought two of these for a simple raid array, lost one of the drives after two weeks of light usage in my homemade file server.
I put the drives in a cage with a 120mm fan, so heat isn't an issue. I also have a high quality power supply, and UPS so in theory power wasn't an issue. Yet, I was greeted by the click of death when I came home today.
Other Thoughts: Hopefully the RMA process isn't a pain. Be sure to back up your data! If I wouldn't have been RAIDed I would've lost 500+ gigs of data.

WD is always the best.
Pros: It's a WD! Never had anything bad to say about Western Digital.
Cons: Not really a con but I was unaware that this was a "Green" drive until I got it. It does not state that anywhere in the description. But I suppose that is what the "GP" stands for in the model number.
Other Thoughts: You can never go wrong with a WD drive. I have never had one fail on me yet. I would never buy anything else.

Good if it works!
Pros: Easy installation! It worked! It has a lot of space! Took me 5 seconds to format it using the Western Digital utility!
Cons: I had to RMA the first one, which is why I put my review at 4 eggs. The first one wouldn't format.
Other Thoughts: I'm just glad that I got one that worked, I've been waiting for a month! I hope WD never lets me down again, it was a first!

Good drive so far
Pros: Easy to install. Fairly quiet drive. Price point is absolutely fantastic.
Cons: Does not come w/ SATA cables. (To be expected w/ OEM equipment) Variable speed, maxes out at 7200RPM. 16mb cache is a bit weak.

You Need To Know How To Install Large Drives
Pros: This drive is HUGE (storage)! SATA, Fast, runs cool, quiet.
Cons: I have this fear that it might die on me and I'll lose all my data due to it's massive amount of storage...
Other Thoughts: Keep in mind that this is an OEM product. That means there are no instructions on how to set it up. plugging it in is self explanatory, but if you've never dealt with large drives there is one thing you need to know: Windows XP will not see the drive as more than 137 gigs. You NEED (NEED) to go to the Western Digital website and download the "WD LifeGuard" program to install it. Just Google it. Once the program is installed and the HDD is wired up you run the program and there you go! It'll guide you through the rest. AND because of this problem with XP, you cannot just install XP on the disc, if you want it as the main disc, install a fresh copy on your old drive, or a smaller one, and install the WD LifeGuard on that then use DOS to copy the whole install onto this one. .Just in-case you didn't know.

Fast, cheap and quiet
Pros: Using this as a storage drive, gets 85mb read on HD Tune, which will be a upper 5.8 / lower 5.9 drive on Windows Vista. Huge capacity, 698.9GB formatted.
Cons: None that I'm aware of
Other Thoughts: Can be happily used as a main OS drive without performance issues.

Great H.D.D. from Western Digital
Pros: Low price, High capacity. O.E.M. drive was packaged securely for shipment, arrived within three buisness days. Free shipping at time of purchase. Whisper quiet operation.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Recognized in Vista, go to administrative tools, computer management, storage, disk management, right click on drive shown in upper window, initialize drive, perform quick format specifying drive label if preffered, done. Western Digital H.D.D.s are good performers and reliable storage solutions.

One hell of an adventure
Pros: Western Digital is the most used brand of hard drives i use personally and professionally when building computers for who ever is willing to pay. Never used another brand if i had a choice.
Cons: For a few moment it just flashed in my head how horrible the next few days were going to be if something in my tower did fry and i had to wait for replacement parts...
Other Thoughts: This drive took me on an adventure, Completely forgot i needed to install WD Lifeguard to activate the drive, bought it with a Sans Digital RaidTower for uber storage. The tower registered with desktop and laptop but the drive didnt. Plugged it into the SATA to USB adaptor and ran Lifeguard got a blue screen of death and bios lockups. Scared the **** outta me till i figured out i should unplug the adaptor. Then it clicked that i should plug the drive directly into my Mobo and run it from there. Plugged it in and the whole tower clicked then shut down, thought i fried my PSU. Ran around the house looking for a tower to take apart to salvage the CPU, took a 5 second pause and finally it powered up, now the drive is working and more importantly it's working in the RaidTower...

Great Drive
Pros: Lots of storage, WD reliablity
Cons: Reviewers
Other Thoughts: I have noticed as newegg has grown they gave received some customers that do not know anything but think they know everything. The drives are a little slow, but nothing to be too concerned with. No one with half a brain would use a drive like this for an OS -- it is perfect for data storage. I bought 4 - running a raid 5 with them. They work great. If you are looking for an inexpensive drive for storage made by a reliable company -- here you go.

mixed bag
Pros: excellent price
Cons: Of the two of these drives I bought in July 2008, one worked fine but the other intermittently generated errors. But that motherboard had other problems, and the 350W power supply may have been marginal, so I just took the drive out of service. Finally got around to upgrading that system with a new motherboard and 500W power supply. The flakey drive worked briefly, but soon didn't even respond to smartctl queries. The WD diagnostic reported 0134 and 0108 errors.
Other Thoughts: I've requested an RMA and am hoping for better luck with the replacement. This time I will make a point of burning in the new drive right away.

Western Digital HDD S..ks
Pros: It will store 750 GB of data .....Great man ...Great!!!and no Warrenty from manufacture....Even they don't belive on their product.....
Cons: Always look at the warrenty of the drive you buy.
Other Thoughts: Always buy 2 more yers warrenty addtional from manufacturers warrenty...Seagate gives 3 yers+2 from Newegg = 5yers.
No drive will last 3+ yers...my experiance

Cons: slightly larger then other hdds that i've owned so it was a pain and i had to force it a little to get it to seat right....and upon installing windows 7 beta it blue screened half way thru, but that doesnt mean its the hdd's fault...i reinstalled it and it worked fine..

Damaged.
Pros: The BIOS and device manager picked up the hard drive.
Cons: I tried formatting in windows xp, reached 100% on two attempts and received a message that windows xp could not format the hard drive. I put in my windows xp professional disc and tried formatting from there, reached about 40% and received a message that I should check and make sure the cables are plugged in properly and that the disk might be damaged.
After hours of trying to format I sent in an RMA for the first time.
Other Thoughts: I love Western Digital and Newegg...

2 Tries, no dice
Pros: I thought it was a good value, it was quiet and fast.
Cons: My first one was DOA...which was disappointing, so I returned it and got a new one. However, about a week and a half into the new one it started to fail (stop running while the computer was on), so I sent it back. I'm not getting another of these.
Other Thoughts: On the other hand, I'm not blaming Western Digital, cause I know bad hard drives happen. I will continue to buy from them in the future, just not this item, not this time. Perhaps it just wasn't my time to expand my hard drive space, I have another one of their drives (320 gb) that has been working hard for me for more than a year and I've been happy with it. There are only two different HD companies I trust and this is one of them.

"Smoooth Operator"
Pros: It booted! Seems extremely quiet and cool to the touch...cant wait to see how it holds up after a few months
Cons: None so far although vista would not pick it up until I used Disk Management tools to first format the 698GB it holds but thats not the drives fault.
Other Thoughts: WD GP rox

Green HDD
Pros: They are a lot quieter than my wd raptor. And they do put out less heat. I am using in a Dlink NAS Raid 1 for movies and music storage over my home network. Perfect for what I need.
Cons: The 1tb goes on sale the day after I bought these. ugh

Awsome
Pros: Works great, had no trouble installing it, have half of it full already since it replaced a smaller 300gb drive and no probs so far.
Cons: I know it's OEM but it's always annoying having to go dig through my spare parts bin looking for a SATA cable since it doesn't come with one. =P

Another reason to love WD
Pros: This drive has been perfect for me so far. I bought it to use as the primary drive in my new Phenom II system and the drive's speed and quiet operation have been great.

Questionable shipping
Pros: -Good price -Free shipping -Drive is quiet and cool
Cons: -Lasted for 5 days. Drive stopped being recognized. Even Spinrite couldn't recognize the drive -Newegg wrapped the drive with another one that I bought together with a bubble wrap and toss them in the box with some peanuts. Drive could move around freely inside the box. I don't think this is the proper way to ship hard-drives. -Wasted money for return shipping offset the good price
I have at least 5 GP WD drives. This is the first one to fail in a short period of time. Any OEM drives (even Western Digital ones) I bought from other merchants (even from Newegg a while back) always come in a proper OEM box PER drive, complete with 2 plastic holder that hold the drive solid still. This is the first time I see a merchant tossed in bare drives wrapped with flimsy bubble wrap and some peanuts in a box. Getting an RMA for replacement.

Pros: Very, very quiet. Replaced a bricked 7200.11 Baracuda, just slightly slower than Baracuda, but like it a whole lot better.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: One of the reasons I bought this drive is WD RMA policy. I had helped a friend last fall with drive replacement - WD shipped a replacement drive right away FedEx at no charge.

Does what it says
Pros: Rosponsive, extremely quiet, cool (<35 degrees C even under heavy load)
Cons: None, really
Other Thoughts: I have 4 of these on a HP MSS 485. Reduces energy consumption by about 12-15W compared to the standard HDD. Excellent solution for a home server. As usual, Newegg service is outstanding. Will buy more in the future. However currently they are out of stock !

Excellent storage drive
Pros: Quiet, fast, cheap. Green drive saves the planet and saves you money. Perfect for storage of media (music, video etc.)
Cons: I have had zero issues with this drive. I own two.
Other Thoughts: Would recommend the 1TB 32MB cache green drives over this while they're on sale. <$0.10/GB.

Good HD
Pros: Fast, quiet and good price. Western Digital put some thought into these newer drives. When I need that 7200 rpm it kicks in. Sad to say all the Seagates I have bought in the last 7 months have all gone TU and all Seagate can do is replace the drives but it will cost me $$ to extract the data. Do yourself a favor and leave the Maxtor/Seagates alone. As always Newegg has done everything great.
Cons: None yet.

Good Drives
Pros: Great Price, Lots of storage, works with no problems on XP
Cons: Speed in Windows XP RAID -- However there could be other issues causing this.
Other Thoughts: I am using 3 of these for a windows managed RAID 5 array, they work great and installed no problems. When trying to access a 3MB or larger picture file it sometimes take a few seconds to load -- but this could be many other factors.. Like the PC is wireless with only 54mbs card. However, I am glad I bought these, they are quiet and seem to run pretty cool in a not so cool spot in the case... I stand behind WD 100%

Good drive
Pros: It's very big and it works. The fact that it consumes low power not only makes me feel good about saving money and helping the environment, it also allows me to fit more components on a small PSU. I have a low-power 45W AMD 2.6Ghz Brisbane dual-core CPU, a DVD drive, a low-profile GeForce 8400 video card, and this drive, all on a 300W PSU. It works fine, despite the video card requesting at least a 450W PSU.
Cons: Computer is only recognizing 700GB but that's probably not the drive's fault.
Other Thoughts: Had to change the hard drive detect function from "auto" to "large" in the BIOS.

good upper end storage
Pros: it worked out of the box after using Xp disk management tools and transfered data on a new 1998 board with xp pro phenom 3
Cons: wont work in earlier via chipset boards that include sata support without maybe a bios update? anyway my time is more valuable than to try to "manupulate" one of the drives to work it. anyway if you are using new gear this drive is great
Other Thoughts: maybe some more backward compatability could be coded into them but it would probly be a waste of time as these old mother boards are a full 4 years old Oo! geez no wonder our economy is where its at

In case you have an older non sp2 XP CD
Pros: It's fast, transferred 186gb of files from EIDE to it in just under 1.5 hours. And it's quiet, so quiet I mistook the rattling of a loose dvdr for it. I am partial to WD drives mainly because of their reliabilitly and warranty. Thankfully they haven't let me down yet.
Cons: This isn't a con just for this drive but any large drive(320gb and up) and XP. If your XP is prehistoric like mine and only has SP1 on it. I noticed during install it wasn't showing the correct drive size. If I selected use full space, XP would create 4 to 5 mini partition and about 115gb and format every other one. Which would cause bad disk error on reboot. If you get this error your drive is not toast. You can fix it deleting the partitions XP made. I choose to put the drive in an ext case and use disk management to restore it. In order to get XP installed you will probably need to make a small 50gb partition, install to it, activate your XP and get SP2 thru updates. Once you have SP2 resize the partition to the full size. Which is what I did. Again nothing to do with the drive. Hopefully it will save someone out there a headache should they have the same problem. :) Alternativily you could purchase XP SP3 or Vista or use Linux..
Other Thoughts: Need more of these.

Hard Drive failure Info
Pros: It hasn't failed so far. But I haven't installed it.
Cons: No Install just yet.
Other Thoughts: The folks at datacent.com "models" have a VERY interesting descriptions of the most common hard drive failure issues with all major brands. After reading these pages, I am going to tap into my 201K retirement plan, buy a couple of TB drives and back up all data, photos, etc on our three computers.

Reliable
Pros: This drive was purchased on 7-30-09 and was installed a short time later. For most of the past 6 and a half months the drive has been used 24/7. My Operating System resides on this drive and it is used extensively for HDTV recording and video editing. It operates at low noise levels and is always cool to the touch. It is still running strong and I have confidence that it will continue to do so.
Cons: I have read that this drive actually operates only at 5400 RPM. If this is true, then WD should not mislead customers by implying that the speed is up to 7200.

Works like a charm
Pros: The drive is very quiet, it was plug-and-play (I so do not miss the days of jumpers and drive configuration in the BIOS), reduced power usage from being "green" (good for a 24/7 server) and you can't beat the price/capacity.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: I installed this in an off-lease Dell GX280 with Windows Home Server to use as the main drive in a file/media server. It has no problem co-existing with the SATA 150 built into the motherboard even though the drive is SATA 300. I can't get over how quiet the drive is (which was a bit disconcerting during install since that's usually how you know things are working and not frozen). I paired it with a 400GB WD I bought last year from NewEgg (also great). If all continues to go well I plan to build out a HTPC with this drive and I am sure the 1 or 1.5TB drives are in the future for the server. I hope I am not jinxing myself when I say I've owned several WD drives in my life and I've had great success with all of them from IDE to SATA to USB 2.0.
