Fast Drive
Pros: Pretty fast. Average sequential read is around 55-60MB/s and average sequential write is about 50-55MB/s. Runs cool at around 36-43C depending on load. Vibration and sound is insignificant even under load. Have been using for 24 hours/day for everyday and almost a year now. Still no problem.
Cons: Wished it had SATA 3.0Gb/s instead.
Other Thoughts: Quality drive but better drives are already in the market ever since I bought this.

Pros: none
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: was wondering if user t3t4 had service pack 2 installed the is a barrier there. after installing sp2 you will have a chunk of unpatitioned space, or get a copy of xp with sp2 already installed and reload

Nice drive and FAST to boot!
Pros: It's fast, it's quiet, it's thermally efficient! Low heat and awesome speed is why I like it, and this price is dam hard to beat for that kind of performance. Mikey likes it!
Cons: I installed this into a Lenovo R61i laptop which replaced a failed WD 80g 5400rpm drive. The problem I see, it's nowhere near 200 gigs of capacity, it's actually 127 gigs as recognized by windows. Perhaps I should have installed windows in compatible mode via the BOIS, or maybe that has nothing to do with it. I don't know for sure, but I have installed many drives in many computers and have never seen this kind of loss once XP is fully installed. I'm shocked and irritated about this issue, but there you go, that's the worst I can say about this drive thus far.
Other Thoughts: I wish Windows would calculate hard drive capacity the same way hard drive manufacturers do, or vis/versa! If I had it to do over again, I would have done a little more home work. Time was an issue since this was a customers laptop I was working on, bang for the buck is what he wanted so I found my top picks and gave the customer the choice! This drive is what he chose, he's happy and so am I. But knowing now what I didn't know then, I might have pushed for something else. Maybe not, since this is a performer drive, but all that lost capacity keeps me up at night if you know what I mean.

Okay Drive
Pros: Worked Great for 18 months.
Cons: Died a terrible death after initiating a large file transfer.
Other Thoughts: It ran its course well but I would have hoped for more than 18 months from this drive.

Fast but noisy
Pros: -Fast (clear real world performance gains on MBP 3,1 in caching Finder views and sustained transfers)
Cons: -Noisy (I am generally not sensitive to computer noises, so I was surprised by how noisy this drive was compared to the 5400 RPM drive that it replaced. It continues to annoy me.)

Pros: Quiet, cheap
Cons: not fast enough
Other Thoughts: a good choice if you want to have higher speed than 5400rpm and don't want to pay much

apparent 8-month wonder
Pros: This was a great macbook upgrade, and made a noticable difference in startup and application load times. I did not notice any obvious temperature increase, and istat only recorded a couple degrees over the stock 80g 5400.
Cons: Drive is dead, and DiskWarrior reports hardware failures. It took multiple reboots and lots of patience for DW to even mount the disk. I need to obtain another drive to backup my data because this one is too far gone, but I'm not sure that I even want to rely on the RMA if, as other reviewers are reporting, it too will fail in another 8 months.
Other Thoughts: Bought this in February, and it's been on several cross-country flights and long drives, but well protected. Death snuck up after the laptop spent a week parked on my desk running nzbDrop (heavy disk i/o), so unless this was a latent problem that finally blew up, it would appear that the disk finally couldn't handle heavy use over an extended period of time. Perhaps it's a better choice for business and casual users.

Excellent for PS3
Pros: Faster than stock Much more space that stock Fairly quiet
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I think this is as much space as you can get for a 2.5" drive. It does make loading and other operations faster on the PS3. Plenty of room now as well. Noise level is about the same if not less. The fans are louder.

Pros: 7200 RPM, 200GB. Was the fastest and largest drive on the market when I bought it about a year ago
Cons: The hard disk crashed after about 6 months of use
Other Thoughts: This was the second Hitachi hard disk that crashed for no apparent reason in the last year. Granted I do take my laptop with me everywhere, but I am not very rough on my equipment

Clicking Sound and Failed in 8 month like everyone say!
Pros: I bought Hitachi to run my MacBook Pro, MacBook faster, it is very quiet like mac native HD.
Both Mac started cricking 2~3 month ago, Hitachi in MacBook just diagnosed-failed by MAC OS Install Disk 1 DVD hardware test. Hitachi gave me a new replacement HD today.
I do not appreciate the quality of Hitachi drive, I looked for better made Fast HD, but nothing better out there really.........
Hitachi 7200RPM HD is just so much greater speed when it works!
I just have to make sure to back up all data. (Hitachi service would not recover any data.)
Cons: Failed

Pros: Large size and speedy at 7200rpm. Very quiet as well.
Cons: Price
Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a 5400rpm hard drive and once I installed this in, the speed increase was noticeable. Giving it a four since the price is still high.

Fast but died quickly
Pros: Fast Read & Write
Cons: Drive started clicking (making sounds of death) after 6 months of moderate use and then 1 month later stopped spinning. RMA to Hitachi is difficult. They require special packaging that is impossible to source. Hitachi sent me a 5400 rpm drive as replacement--I am not happy with Hitachi at all. I have contacted them to see if they will rectify the situation.
Other Thoughts: The performance of this drive is great, but it is not reliable. Hitachigst customer service is mediocre to poor. I would purchase Western Digital or Seagate over them any day--both their Customer Services are better as well.

Supercharged my Mac
Pros: Much much faster than the stock hard drive that came with my Macbook Pro. It has worked fine for over half a year of steady use so far. Recommended as a great way to upgrade the speed on your laptop.
Cons: The battery life on my Macbook pro isn't great and I don't think this fast power-hungry drive helped any.

Crashed
Pros: Extremely fast, tops out any drive. Installed on mac, but a torx 6 screwdriver was required to transfer the protective plate from the other drive.
Cons: After 3 months, the hard drive crashed and makes a clicking sound. Had it RMA'd through Hitachi and it cost me 20 dollars in insured shipping. Thing crashed again. Hitachi employee barely speak english and dont understand customer service, so I threw the drive away.
Other Thoughts: Bad luck for me I guess; and too bad for Hitachi that I will never use their products again.

Very Quiet
Pros: I replaced a 100GB Travelstar with this HD. The 100GB version sounded like a cricket in my Sager 5760. This HD is a very nice upgrade. Quick, quiet, and cool.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Is So. Calif. I received it in lass then 48 hours with free shipping!

Very pleased so far
Pros: Well, I've had this only a week but love it. Installed in a Panasonic Toughbook CF-74, replacing a 5400 rpm Seagate.
I can't believe how much faster this is than the 5400 rpm Seagate I've been using.
It also runs cool and quiet. I know it runs cool because when I formatted it via USB connection, I deliberately did not select quick format, which took quite a while to complete. I then cloned the existing drive onto this new one, again via USB cable, and again the clone took a long time. I could feel and hear the naked disk and was very impressed at how cool and quiet it was during formatting and cloning.
Upon installation into the laptop, no spin noise and no vibration, and very little sound from the seek-arm moving.
After installation, Speedtest showed pristine S.M.A.R.T data and rated the disk at 100% quality and 100% performance.
At this point only time will tell if this is as good as all of the rest of the Hitachi 2.5" drives I have installed.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: A year and a half ago, I had tried a Seagate Momentus 7200 rpm drive for this laptop, and the thing was awful. Really noisy and vibrated awfully, like it was out of balance. I hated the way my laptop vibrated from the thing, and sent it back to Newegg, and was really turned off to 7200 rpm drives for laptops.
I'm really glad I gave the 7200 rpms another chance.
(I've also had other, new 5400 rpm Seagate laptop drives die within weeks, so I'm going to stick exclusively with Hitachi drives for laptops from now on. I still like Seagate 3.5" drives, though. They seem to be quite good devices.)
Another thought is that if you get a disk that vibrates really badly or otherwise is really noisy when you first activate it or soon thereafter, then the disk is defective and should be exchanged immediately.

Excellent Drive for a Macbook
Pros: This thing speeds up the disk access like crazy when compared to the 120GB Fujitsu 5400rpm stock drive on my macbook. Almost 1.5 - 2X speed improvement on all disk activity. This is the best upgrade after memory boost on any laptop.
Cons: 7k320 is out, with more throughput and lower power consumption.

Drive failed after 4 months
Pros: Relatively large, relatively fast, and runs pretty quiet until it starts making a very loud clicking sound...
Cons: ...at which point all your data is lost and you're out $160. Nice job Hitachi.
Other Thoughts: At the time I bought it this seemed like the best laptop drive around. But I wonder if the 7200 RPM speed translates to higher temps and ultimately, early failure. I'd avoid this one if reliability is important to you.

Best Notebook Hard drive
Pros: Simply the best drive. I've had it since September 2007 and still going strong. Wish I'd gotten two... Runs cooler and faster than the Fujistu drive that came with my Vostro 1700.
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: Buy two and run them in RAID 0.

Great upgrade for MacBook
Pros: Noticeably faster and cooler than the original drive in my MacBook. It's also very quite and vibration free. The added speed makes it seem like I've upgraded the entire computer and not just the drive.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: It was very easy to swap out for the existing drive in my MacBook. I placed the new drive in an external USB enclosure, used the Mac Disk Utility app to format it to Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) and then used SuperDuper to copy my existing drive to the new one. After it was copied, I removed the existing drive and installed the new drive and was up and running in less than 5 minutes.

Very Nice Drive
Pros: This is an excellent drive! My original system drive (Fujitsu Lifebook N6460, Vista Home Prem, dual internal SATA drives) was 5400rpm 160Gb 8Mb-cache. Replaced it with this Hitachi -significantly noticeable improvement in "felt" overall system response. Vista 'Hard Drive experience score' jumped from 4.8 to 5.4 after installing this drive. Very nice!
Cons: Absolutely NONE! ZERO!
Other Thoughts: Since you can't 'overclock' a laptop, if you want your laptop to run faster (and if you have internal SATA), this drive will make your laptop run FASTER! I purchased this drive several months ago from a local retailer. VERY happy I did.

Very noisy after a month of use
Pros: Started out very quiet. Very fast drive that blew my old 160 gb 5400 RPM drive out of the water.
Cons: After a month of VERY light use (maybe 30 hrs total of powered up time), the drive has developed a fairly loud wining noise. It's constant and almost as loud as the read head noise. Since it had a rebate and I've already mailed it in, I can't RMA with Newegg. How convenient for Newegg. Now I have to deal directly with Hitachi to get a replacement.
Other Thoughts: Maybe I got a dud or something. Regardless, this is my first and last travelstar drive. I'm sticking with Western Digital next time.

Great Drive, but next gen coming soon
Pros: Super fast and noiseless operation. Heat generated is on par with other drives.
Cons: The next generation of Hitachi Travelstar is just around the corner. 7K320 boasts capacity to 320 GB and is supposed to be an even faster drive with lower power consumption.
Other Thoughts: If you can wait a while longer, it might be worth it. But if you need a drive today, this is one of the best there is.

Utterly Perfect
Pros: An amazing upgrade from my cheap old Fujitsu 80GB SATA drive. Windows boots approx. 15 seconds faster with the new drive, and a lot of my programs that used to take forever like Photoshop CS3 and Premiere Pro open instantly. The new drive is whisper quiet and the 7200 RPM drive runs so much cooler than the old 5400 RPM drive that came in my notebook from the factory. Definitely will buy from Hitachi again.
Cons: Sorta expensive, other than that none to report.
Other Thoughts: If using Acronis's disk clone utility, you are going to have to burn a bootable recovery cd because the application uses windows' bootloader to run the disk clone, resulting in the bootloader failing to copy the one file that windows wont run without.

1,2,3
Pros: This thing is fast, fast, fast. It is also quieter than my 5400 rpm hitachi that it replaced. It also has no noticeable increase on battery drain. I am extremely happy. The box claimed that this was the fastest notebook drive on the market, i am not in a position to dispute it.
Cons: 200 gig drive, registered at 183 gigs, that is a pretty substantial discrepancy.
Other Thoughts: I bought this at Best Buy for 173.00 including tax. It came with: A. the drive, B. an external drive enclosure, C. all necessary cables for migration, D. a bootable cd with an amazing iso image/ partition creator/ modifier. This is an insane deal. It said 1,2,3 finished and it was 1,2,3 finished. This just doesn't happen in the real world. At the end of the day i had a: 200 gig 7200 rmp hd in my machine, a 100 gig external hard drive smaller than a dvd case, a usb power cable, a usb-mini-usb, cable, and an excellent piece of software I will definately use over and over again. Oh yeah, worked with Vista the first time.

Amazing hard drive!
Pros: This is a superb hard drive. As hard drives are probably the major bottlenecks in the systems nowadays expect tp see HUGE performance increase with this drive. It is 2nd gen for 7K series and drive is just superb, it is even noticably faster than my previous 7200 rpm drive. Overall great buy, probably one of the best money spent on upgrade, besides RAM :)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Absolutely quiet for fast drive, do not read reviews saying it is loud, etc.

Not Loud like stated in other review
Pros: Works as advertised. More than anything, I wanted to counter a previous user review. This drive is NOT loud, in fact it's "darn" quiet! (sorry, word filter got me)
As I ghosted/cloned the 80gb drive that came in my new Dell M6300 to this drive via a USB adapter, I constantly had to check to see if it was even doing anything by lightly feeling it and by the activity light on my Vantec adapter.
Even after I loaded it directly into the new laptop and set the BIOS setting for the HDD to "performance" (versus "quiet") I still struggle to hear it operate.
By comparison, the DVD RW drive CAN be heard and I would describe it as loud, the HD is a tiny tiny whisper in comparison.
Cons: None to date... 'Don't expect any...
(Some hardware review sites are pointing out higher than average amp draws... What do you expect for a performance drive??? There are no free lunches...)
Other Thoughts: I've had 3 TravelStars of various different generations now and not had a single problem with any of them.
If you are unfortunate enough to get one of these and it is "loud", I would say it is a rare defect and should be RMA'd.

Unreal Speed
Pros: Bought this to replace original drive in my Pavilion dv2120us laptop due it being soo slow. The increase in speed is phenominal. My wait times for programs to load is approx. 75% less. I never expected it to be this much faster. Lots of storage space and easy to install. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of speeding up a laptop.
Cons: None that I have found.

Fast & Spacious!
Pros: The HDD has a large data volume and is very fast! Works great with my company notebook (Lenovo Thinkpad T61) in the optional HDD tray that slides into an Ultrabay slot.
Cons: None whatsoever...
Other Thoughts: I use the HDD as a second boot for personal stuff allowing me to keep only company-related business on the stock HDD. I can easily access the D: drives between the two boots (Windows XP SP2 and Vista Ultimate 64-bit)...

Great replacement HD for laptop
Pros: 200 GB, 7200 RPM, easy to install.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Had it 3 months so far and no problems so far. This thing works great. My laptop cranks up faster and accesses data much faster than in the 5400rpm HDD (80 GB)that came with my laptop. I put it in an HP DV9000 laptop. I'll probably get another one once I get me another HD caddy to install it in the other HD slot.

Great drive
Pros: Much faster than the original 5400 RPM drive in my ThinkPad T60 and just as quiet. Good price too - bough it for $165 and received $30 rebate from Hitachi.
Cons: Wish it could be 250GB so I can have 50GB more
Other Thoughts: Newegg's shipping is super fast as usual. Thank you.

Happy Hitachi
Pros: After a spat of Brand X failures, I finally had a good, working Brand Y in my MacBook Pro; however, at 5400 RPM, it was running a bit slow. Whether it's the 7200 RPM speed or the fact that my HD capacity almost doubled I'm note sure, but this drive soars. It is also much quieter than any of my previous drives. With a the exact same disk image as my previous Brand Y, this gives my system an amazing performance boost.
Cons: It's still not enough capacity, but for a notebook drive, I can't expect much more.
Other Thoughts: Awesome drive. So far, reliable.

Works Great!
Pros: To begin with, I installed it into my Macbook, replacing the stock 80 GB drive. It runs a bit faster, and much cooler.
Also, the rebate made it all the more appealing.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: I noticed some people complaining that it was too noisy. I do notice that I can hear the drive ever-so-slightly more than the old one, but I wouldn't classify it as "noisy." If it were so load to the point of being agitating, or even making grinding noises, then you have a defective drive and should return it, post-haste!

Amazing! Worth Every Penny!
Pros: Blazing Boot time in Max OS X Leopard. Applications load much faster! Also, longer battery life, which surprised me, perhaps the drives large cache is why.
Cons: Had to open up my Macbook Pro to do it all the time worrying about breaking it (but didn't!). Also, the drive doesn't come formatted for Mac (no surprise). But if you have an external HDD enclosure for SATA drives, put this in it, turn it on, go Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility. Select this hard drive and format it in "Mac OS Extended Journaled" then switch out the drives. iFixit . com has a really good guide.
Other Thoughts: System Specs: 15" 2.16GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro, now with 200GB 7.2K RPM Hard Drive. I dropped my laptop about a month ago, and since on occassion the hard drive would give an unnerving clicking sound, and boots were unreliable, and would some time hang (stages of a dying drive). So, backed up everything on an external drive with Time Machine. Swapped out the drives, restored everything, works great!

My one only shows up 138GB
Pros: good drive
Cons: I think it's manufacture mistake. I just got it yesterday and I install it to my X61 today. It is detected it as 138gb in windows xp pro.
Other Thoughts: send back for return and purchase again

Good drive if it survives
Pros: Quick access time, High Capacity, Okay price
Cons: Died after 3 months of laptop use. I wouldn't have posted but this is the third such review. Drive failed with no warning just over 3 months after installing. Sounds like there is a bit of a quality issue.

All I Can Say is WOW!!!
Pros: Fast!!! This thing decreased my average boot time by at least 20 seconds. Now takes about 15 seconds for a cold boot. Running on 1st gen MacBook with 2GB RAM. Quiet!!! Can't hear it period. Getting longer life out of the battery because of it being SO GREAT!!!
Cons: Please...
Other Thoughts: Worth it. Just makes things better.

Pros: Works great, slapped it in my alienware laptop along with another 100GB and tripled my storage. fits all my stuff without having to lug an external around.

Attention MacBook Users
Pros: This is the exact same model number of the hard drive that came with my new MacBook Pro 17 (Early 2008). If you choose the 200gb 7200RPM hard drive upgrade this is the drive that you will get.
Cons: Larger would be nice. or 3.0Gb/s would be nice.

Great for an older MacBook.
Pros: It's a good amount of storage for the price, and the drive seems reliable so far. Works perfectly in my MacBook.
Cons: The drive gets really loud when it's accessed frequently (though this doesn't happen during my typical usage of the macbook)
Other Thoughts: I'm happy with this drive, and I'd buy another one.

No regret
Pros: 16mb cache and 7200rpm is comparable to a desktop drive. 30$ rebate came. Low noise.
Cons: Expensive and seek time is not as good as a desktop drive but still should be good for gaming and other apps.
Other Thoughts: Vista rating on my laptop for this drive is 5.5, a 0.2 increase from a 250gb 5400rpm 8mb cache.

Very good drive
Pros: Bought 2, Installed one in my Mac Mini, and one in my Toshiba Notebook. In the Mini, OSX boots in 13 seconds, Windows via boot camp boots in 21 seconds. Outstanding! Drive is very fast over the stock drive. Ubuntu is very responsive on the Toshiba. Well worth the few extra $'s.
Cons: Slightly noisier than the Sam**** drives that I usually buy. Not a show stopper though.
Other Thoughts: Wish it came in a PATA version so I could replace a couple other drives. Newegg, as always was excellent.

No complaints
Pros: Good price with rebate. Runs cooler in my Macbook than the stock 80 GB drive.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: Like some others have stated, it does make more noise than the older drive, but not enough for me to complain about. I barely notice it in a quite room.

Super Fast !!!
Pros: Smokes my old S**G*** hard drive it loads in half the time of my old 160 gig 5400rpm in my Dell Inspiron 6400 with less noise than the 5400. some people have said it makes more noise than their old one not this one it's almost non existent in ambient noise even at run up VERY HAPPY !!!
Cons: A little pricie but makes up for it in speed and no vibration !!!
Other Thoughts: I would like to see this 16mb cache model with more storage (320 gig) but it still rocks at 200 !!!

Pros: Great specs and it worked very well in all my tests.
Cons: It wouldn't work in my Compaq NX9420 laptop so I had to send it back. HP-Compaq laptops are very fussy about the hard drives you can put in them.
Other Thoughts: Newegg got it to me quickly and then took it back without a problem making me a happy customer.

Excellent choice
Pros: Very fast without giving off noticeably more heat than the 5400rpm drive it replaced. Great capacity for a laptop drive, and most importantly for me it's extremely quiet.
Cons: None I can think of
Other Thoughts: Shipment arrived fast and drive came very well packaged.

Awesom
Pros: None to minimal noise. the speed. the capacity.
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: i put this in my 1st generation white macbook, im going from a 60 GB 5400 rpm seagate to this beast, its like having a new computer. Ive got 2gb of ram and now 200gb hard drive awesome.
i bought it at "best buy" $179.99, and in that package you get a external enclosure for your old hard drive, which was very nice

Great speed and capacity
Pros: A good, fast hard drive, and hold a good amount.
Cons: A little pricey, but so is the competition.
Other Thoughts: What a great drive! I previously had a 4200 rpm (8mb cache) 200gb drive in my first gen core2duo macbook pro (november '06).
I've been wanting to upgrade my laptop for some time now, but instead looked at what the choke point on my performance was. It turned out that my hard drive was almost always the culprit, so after doing some research, I bit the bullet and upgraded. Wow, was it ever worth it! I feel like I'm on a whole new computer now.

Great,
Pros: Noticeable speed increase in performance: itunes, photoshop, starting windows, etc.
Cons: Power usage goes up: at lowest brightness and wireless radios off I could run my machine around 12 watts but with this new hard drive my average has increased to 14 watts; my battery life has experienced a 5-10% decrease. Also, this drive is slightly louder than normal; only noticeable if you are listening for it.
Other Thoughts: If I had the need to buy it again I would. The space and speed are welcome and out weight the minor down points...but, I don't know if I would say that if the 500 gb comes out sometime during the summer of '08.

Incredible in my MacBook Pro
Pros: Fast, Cool, Quiet, & Fast (stressed)
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: After realizing that the biggest hurdle holding my 2.4 Ghz, 4 GB DDR2 667 MacBook Pro back was the 160 GB stock 5400 RPM HD, I decided to go for a 7200 RPM drive. I bought this one from Best Buy, so they gave me an external enclosure for my old drive as well.
Although it was a pain getting it into my MacBook Pro (Apple just designs things far too well for easy access), once it was in, I was expecting it to run louder and hotter than my previous Fujitsu 5400 drive.
I was completely incorrect. After installing it, I ran my Leopard install disk and restored everything back to it's original state using my TimeMachine backup (flawless). It booted up without a hitch and, after indexing, took off. It used to take my MacBook Pro well over 30/45 seconds to load InDesign CS3 from a cold startup; with th hitachi 7200, it takes no more than 15 seconds. Aperture 2 used to take well over a minute, now it's down to less than 20 seconds.
$165 is money extremely well spent for a major speed

Great Drive
Pros: Tested in O/S-free environment on my Acer Ferrari 1000 laptop was showing: Data rate=65.4 MB/S, Track To Track Seek=2.2 mS, Avg. Seek=1.7 mS, Full Stroke=8.4 mS.
Much faster than the one I had - the same brand. (OEM pre-installed) -Hitachi Travelmate HTS541616J9SA00, SATA1, 5400 RPM, 160 GB (which scored: Data rate=45.2 MB/S, Track To Track Seek=2.5 mS, Avg. Seek=8.3 mS, Full Stroke=7.7 mS).
Very quiet too. After 4 hours of downloading is still warm, does not overheat like other (brands) of HDDs I tested.
Cons: Not really at this time.
Other Thoughts: I got rid of Vista, rolling back to XP Pro, making a multiboot laptop (XP/32 bits + Linux /64 bits).
After upgrading to 4GB of RAM, bigger/faster SATA HDD, it seems 2 be a good idea so far - Linux can use all the RAM I bought, getting free Office and tons of other free software (the Linux can access the partitions used by XP, Firefox and the Torrent client can handle files downloaded > 4 GB, I am going to try every new (beta) Linux distro available, seeking max. compatibility with my system's hardware.
Keeping intact the old HD w. the "hidden" partition used to restore the OS, will make possible to use the Vista later, when will have better hardware and software compatibility and improved stability and security.

Awesome drive
Pros: Very fast. Quiet, cool. 16mb cache is twice what most drives in this class have.
Cons: reduces battery life a bit if being used. Not too badly though.
Other Thoughts: Used as 2nd drive in HP dv9500z. 186gb after formatting.

Pros: Man this thing is smokin fast..Way quicker than the 120gb 5400 toshi my Lenovo Z61 came with.
Cons: It reduced battery life a little (very little).
Other Thoughts: I dont know what all the heat complaints are about. I haven't noticed a diffrence at all.

FAST on MacBook
Pros: Very fast
Cons: None so far
Other Thoughts: I upgraded my 1 1/2 year old MacBook (white) which had an 80GB drive that it came with. I was running Tiger, installed Leopard on the new drive from scratch. Wow, seems twice as fast as the old one! Transfer rates at least 50% higher for read/write large files.

SUPER FAST ON MACBOOK! BUT...
Pros: Greaet Speed, I upgraded from my stock 80GIG 5400RPM and MAC OS loads in under 30secs! A lot of space, actual total space was about 189GB. Really quiet too! Though obviously it makes a different noise when it reads than the original 80GIG
Cons: For some reason, it's really screwing up my battery. Like my battery would die at the hour mark. Or completely shut down without warning at that time.
Does anyone know what to do about that? I've calibrated it many times and it still does that. I did not have that problem with the original HD
Other Thoughts: Other than that, this HD is fast, great, spacious, and I bought mine that came with a kit at best buy for an enclosure for my 80GIG internal HD, so now I have a backup!!

Great, but 7200 RPM not worth it.
Pros: Price for the specs. A bite faster over old 5400 RPM.
Cons: Heat. Battery Life. Fan noise.
Other Thoughts: Buying this drives has its ups and downs. I've put a lot of stuff on it and the system is still fast. It works fast, but not as much as you'd expect considering it spins at 7200 RPM. You have to put up with shorter battery life, more heat, and the fan turning on more frequently blowing out the heat. Now that I look back, the 320 GB at 5400 RPM was a better choice. Or perhaps a 200 GB drive at 5400 RPM for less money. The speed you gain with 7200 RPM on what side you overshadows with with heat, fan noise, and battery life. So, stick with 5400 RPM.

Not compatible with some computers
Pros: See below.
Cons: Very LOUD, very Hot, Not compatible with the popular HP DV6000 notebooks.
Other Thoughts: Well, I was in the market for a new drive for my HP Pavilion DV6000 system. This seemed to be the perfect drive: overwhelming 5-star reviews, fast, large capacity, and at the time there was a nice rebate. How could I go wrong? I ordered, cloned my old drive, and installed. Worked OK for a couple days. Then I started experiencing a series of windows Crashes (aka: blue screens of death). It was endless. I lost all data (luckily it was backed up). I emailed Hitachi tech support only to find out that this model is NOT compatible with DV6000 notebooks! I went with a Seagate momentus and it's 10x better. Very disappointed in this. I won't be buying Hitachi again. *If you own a HP DV6000 system BEWARE of this drive!*

Wow!
Pros: Very fast drive! Relatively Quiet, and virutually same battery life as my old 5400 drive. My OS (Vista Home Premium, SP1) boots up much faster. Heat dissapation seems on par with th 5400 drives.
Cons: This drive is a little bit louder than my old one (Hitachi 80gb 5400) , but nothing extreme. I'm not too concerned about drive noise anyways.
Other Thoughts: Definitely got more bang for my buck. This is one of the fastest notebook drives available. The retail version comes with an external enclosure and some software to swap out your current drive. I've upgraded a lot of Hard Drives, but this upgrade offered one of the most visible increases in performance I have seen.

Fast, quiet, & cool
Pros: Replaced a Hitachi HTS721010G9SA00 7200 RPM 100G drive ... in my MacBook Pro. This 200G 7220 series is quieter and cooler. My previous drive was a 7200 RPM so I can't say it's any faster, but 7200 is a dramatic improvement over 5400! Now I have enough space in my laptop for a Vista Boot Camp/Parallels partition, my iTunes, and room to edit video.
Cons: No downsides! Order one now!
Other Thoughts: Strongly recommended - cool quiet, fast and big. With instant and mail-in rebates (over now) it cost me only $140 so it's bargain as well! (March 2008)

No complaints!
Pros: RPM Speed, Cost, Quiet, Just works!
Cons: None.
Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to upgrade the 100 GB 7200 RPM drive that was in my notebook; basically needed the space. This drive had a rebate at the time so that pretty much sealed the deal for me. I had read reviews from some of the others who mentioned that the drive was loud. Mine has been whisper quiet so maybe I got lucky? Anyway... even if there wasn't a rebate I probably would have still bought this drive.

Great Drive!!!!!
Pros: Excellent Drive, replaced my Dell Inspiron 1720's 160GB, 5400RPM drive. Much faster, programs start up much faster. Easy to install. Also used a VANTEC NEXSTAR 3 hard drive enclosure to clone my existing drive onto this (see my review of that product). Had it up and running in no time.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Great service from Newegg as always. This was my third order from newegg in four months and I have nothing but great experiences buying from Newegg.

Perfection
Pros: Pros? heh. Where do I start. Well First off. She's Fast. Fast for a 1.5/gbs that is. I'm Truly impressed by the overall speed this hard disk drive puts out. Installed my Operating system in no time. This Drive is a huge upgrade to my notebooks original HDD. With this drive. she has a huge onboard memory catch which allows more data to queue for read and write. Recommended Product
Cons: Cons? Humm. Havent found a single problem yet. Hitachi Make's really Good HDD's I happen to have 2 500Gb IDE Hitachi drive in my desktop and they run like champions. I would expect the same from the Notebook Drives as well.
Other Thoughts: Anyone Looking for a good Upgrade for there Notebooks. This is the one hard disk drive for you. She's quick quiet and she can out do the compatition. When I got this HDD I knew right away that she is built good. Solid box frame, The Logic board was seated nicley and the connections look stonger then my old HDD.

VeRy NiCe
Pros: This little cherry was very nice. Combined with Newegg's shipping it made it quite the package. I got it within 3 days installed it that night and its been running since. There have been some posts about heat and noise issues. This hardrive has no such activity. It is quieter then my 5400 rpm and is a hell of a lot faster then it. This hardrive has speed, low noise, and very good heat factors. My laptop has been on for almost 8 hours straight and it has not gotten hot.
Cons: None
Other Thoughts: very good price very good hardrive newegg does it again

Great disk!
Pros: Great speed, good capacity. I haven't noticed increase heat or noise from my laptop.
Cons: It's probably shortening my battery life, but I haven't noticed it.
Other Thoughts: For all those people thinking that companies are "lying" to them about capacity, they're not lying. Search Wiki for "gigabyte" and that'll explain why so. Newegg is great once again.

Great Drive
Pros: Alot faster then 5400 rpm drives. Good size, deffintly worth buying.
Cons: Cost
Other Thoughts: I wanted to clear one thing up. One review I read on here the consumer said they wish the manufacture would stop lying about the capacity of the hard drive. You have to remember, some of your hard drive space goes to your swap/page file.

Space after being formated.
Pros: Don't Own it - Responding to another review.
Cons: Don't Own it - Responding to another review.
Other Thoughts: To the guy that said that the companies are lying when they say 200GB, Technically its a miss type, its 200Gb, there is a difference. 200GB is 200 Gigabytes IE 204800 Megabytes 200Gb is 200 Gigibytes IE ~191000 Megabytes or about 186GB its about 7% difference so you should just have to use this to find your actual amount Take the stated size and times its by 0.931 so.. 200*0.931=186.2

Solid Gold Travelstar!
Pros: Exceptionally fast and quiet (even for a 7200rpm drive). Plugged it into the SATA slot and it worked like a charm. A fresh install of Vista Business took about 25 minutes and was event free. Surprisingly quicker and cooler than my OEM 60GB 7200rpm Travelstar. Experience index score went from 4.8 to 5.4 and it definitely is snappier than my OEM drive. All in all a tremendous bargain; and the $30 rebate makes it even sweeter. New Egg you guys rule!!!
Cons: Formated frive capacity is actually 186.4 GB; not 200GB. I wish the manufacturers would stop lying to the consumers.
Other Thoughts: None

Improves over all performance
Pros: improved the over all system performance of my Acer Aspire 5520. Notice able improvement in gaming and installing softwares. And Ofcourse, the price. about $40 less than the segate momentus.
Cons: Runs a little hot, but then again its a 200GB 7200 rpm hard drive (its expected)
Other Thoughts: overall this was a very nice upgrade for my Acer laptop. I dont know if it reduces battery life as the battery life of my laptop is dismal already. Hence it doesn't really effect me. Other than that, i would highly recommend this product.

Good to go!!!
Pros: FAST...As fast as a desktop hard drive and reasonably quiet too! Windows Experience Index for hard drive usage went from a 5.0 to a 5.4! Vista boots faster and programs do load and react quicker...Its a screamer!!!
Cons: None at all!
Other Thoughts: I did not purchase this from Newegg and I bought mine in the USB enclosure. Swapped the two drives out after cloning and now I am using my stock hard drive as my back up! Well worth the price!

Good drive
Pros: Large. 7200rpm.
Cons: None really.
Other Thoughts: Seems to use a little more power than 100GB 7200rpm Hitachi it replaced. I dunno if it's any faster but they say it is.

Pros: Very fast and quiet, as cool as my stock 80GB drive.
Low activity sees 35oC and high activity is 45oC
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: hdparm -tT shows:
Timing cached reads: 2320 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1160.25 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 208 MB in 3.00 seconds = 69.24 MB/sec
Which is better than my SATA desktop drives. I am very pleased with this. It is close to the speed of some of my faster SATA drives in RAID 1.

Good upgrade
Pros: Upgrading from an 100gb 5400rpm sata drive on a HP laptop that frezzes sometime(it was a year old). Notice a small speed increasment on loading Vista and program.
Cons: Doesn't have any drive cloning software. You have to buy an external usb encloser and disk image software if you want to replace the old drive. For some reason after I format and partition the drive using my Vista partition program, then I put the drive in the laptop for a fresh install. Vista couldn't install because it said it is a GPT partition style. So I had to use HP recover disc to install XP first and then move to Vista. Sound quick but most of us know how long it took for complete reinstalled XP then Vista and tons of software. There is alot of so call backup software out there but all they do is make a duplicate of a regular drive but they can't duplicate the drive with windows running on because some file is locked. So I had to do it in the old style.
Other Thoughts: Sadly with today new tech, most of them only lasted until the warranty is expire. Also explain why my laptop is giving up on me in exactly 1yr end of warranty when my HDD frezzes, DL DVD drive stop functioning, processor overheated...If you really needed a new faster drive then this is the one. Pricey, but higher speed sure come in handy when you need them. Don't settle for a 5400rpm 8mb cache drive, it's slow and cranky.

Great Deal! Now my HP seems OK!
Pros: Easy to install, perfect fit both physically and data wise, FAST! Good price, enhances system signifcantly, no apparent heat or noise increase to system ( Actually both "PC Wizard 2008" and "Speedfan" (google!) report lower temperatures than the stock drive!)
Cons: Didn't come stock!
Other Thoughts: I used a previously purchased copy of Acronis and one-of-those $17 NON-ENCLOSURE SATA-IDE w/ PS external combos to easily clone my entire stock 200gb 4200 rpm Toshiba 2.5" to the HITACHI in less than one hour! The speed is now such that the functionality of the fairly high spec HP tx1220US Tablet seems decent and not a disapointment like it seemed before!

Awesome drive
Pros: Considerably faster than the stock 5400Rpm drive especially at boot up. Does not seem to make any difference in battery life. Vista saw the new drive and installed the new drive and asked that i reboot. How can you beat the price especially with the rebate and as usual Newegg shipping was fast !
Cons: Seems a little warm when under load at times.
Other Thoughts: Did a disk to disk clone using my wifes dual core desktop and a popular imaging software. Was able to put my current laptop hdd and this new hdd on the sata connectors. I got a average transfer rate of 1250Mb per minute. Created clone drive in 34min... that was 37Gb of data!!

Pros: It took 3 drives to get it right, but it wasn't the drives fault as I initally thought. Once I worked out my problem (the cloning software that I used the first 2 times turned out wasn't Vista ready :( ) the drive cloned great and the performance is everything I had hoped it would be. It is very quiet and fast and gave my laptop a big boost!
Cons: Newegg was great in handling the 2 returns and my only beef was that if you wanted the drive replaced quickly, then you had to buy it again :( Last time (3rd time is a charm, right?) rather than pay up front, I waited...and waited. About 10 days before I received the replacement drive.

Pros: Upgraded to this from my stock 80 Gig Hitachi in my Dell. More space equals happiness
Cons: i could only find the Sata 1 model of this Hard drive. The temperature can get pretty hot at times, and seeking is extremely noisy, but that is to be expected with a 7200 RPM drive.
Other Thoughts: if only i could have found the SATAII version of this on newegg. the shipping was excellent and have had no problems so far.

Perfect Laptop HDD
Pros: What can I say? This thing is sweet! Installed this on my Thinkpad x60 when the drive first came out, and saw a VERY noticable difference in performace. HDTune shows Avg Transfer of 49.0 MB/sec, Max of 66.6 MB/sec, burst transfer of 74.2. No noticable difference in power consumtion. Very Quiet if you set it to be. Oh, and it's 200gb.
Cons: Does not seem to come with laptops, which I find to be foolish of manufacturers.
Other Thoughts: You can download a bootdisk/cd from hitachi that lets you change settings, most importantly the Power settings (e.g. Low RPM idle -> Active Idle) and Noise Reduction. Noise reduction is VERY effective, but comes at a slight cost in terms of access time (I find this is noticable only in synthetic benchmarks).
Note, people complain that its not actually 200gb, but 186. This is not a format thing, but depends on your definition of a GB. Manufacturers say 1gb=1billion bytes, Windows says 1gb=1024mb x 1024kb etc. In short, multiply any drive's size by about 0.93 to get the accurate size.

Excellent purchase
Pros: Fast, reliable, huge, reasonable price.
Cons: Slight reduction in battery life.
Other Thoughts: Now that I've been using this drive for a few months, I feel better able to speak to the reliability of this product. Overall, I have been extremely happy with this purchase. I've had the drive installed in my Macbook for over three months and I haven't had a single issue with it. Installation was a breeze, and it was easy to transfer my data using Time Machine. I haven't experienced any problems with heat or noise, and my fans are working the same way they did with the factory-installed hard drive. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still pick this drive.

Hitachi 7200 RPM HD
Pros: This drive is a big upgrade to the factory installed HD's in Macbooks. I had this drive installed and the operating system running in less than an hour, no joke. The drive boots and shuts down faster and has more than enough room to load various programs. After reformat you have about 165 of available space. the drive is super quite and should satisfy my needs.
Cons: At this price how can there be any cons. This drive was listed in the $200.00 dollar range and now you can get it for $139.00.
Other Thoughts: If the Macbook is your thing. Get the white middle of the road one and load it with this hard-drive and 4 gigs of memory from Newegg, yo will not be disappointed. You will have a screaming computer for under $1550.00.

Macbook upgrade
Pros: 200 gigs is a significant upgrade, lots of storage. In my experience it runs about as quietly as the stock hard drive. Very fast, there is a noticeable difference between 5400 and 7200rpm. Quick boot times. Low power consumption, about the same as my original drive at 5400rpm.
Cons: Bought it too early!!
Other Thoughts: I recently purchased this hard drive for my 1st gen macbook to replace the stock 80gig hard drive, and I paid $180...wish I had waited. I did some research before buying this, and this model consistently received very high reviews. This is a very easy swap, provided you have the right tools to do it (small screwdrivers, T8 Torx). Just make sure you back up data before, because reformatting the drive can get tricky, especially if you are running multiple OS's (in my case, OSX Leopard, Vista, and Linux simultaneously).

MacBook Pro
Pros: Installed it in my MacBook Pro. Lots of space, faster load time. Will never turn back to 5400 RPM drives.
Cons: Its not as quite as the stock hard drive that comes with the MacBook Pro. I could hear some clicking sounds.
Other Thoughts: If I heard the sounds before I had purchased the hard drive would certainly have looked elsewhere.

Pros: It was fast and quiet.
Cons: Having been bitten by the IBM Deskstar failures (3 out of 4 drives a few years back) I was hesitant to pick up another of the desk/travelstar line but the speed and size swayed me. Sure enough, the drive died after 4 months of use. THE RMA process was fairly painless but now I have lost faith in the brand again so will probably sell it once it comes in.
Other Thoughts: An alternative to consider is a current generation 320GB, 5400 RPM drive. Due to the higher density, sustained read/writes are comparable to the travelstar and random read throughput is not as far off as you might think.

Heh... This wasn't for my laptop... O=)
Pros: 7200 RPM and 200GB... Good enough for me. =)
Cons: It's not faster or larger, but I'm not worried about that.
Other Thoughts: I installed this hard drive in what was originally my 60GB PS3. I used up a decent amount of space, so I figured I'd give a try at swapping out the 60GB. I have no real complaints.

Fast, cool, & quiet in new MacBook
Pros: A snap to install in a new MacBook. Installed Leopard from scratch without a hitch. Silent. No discernable heat. MacBook is visibly faster when starting up applications. Nice to have lots more space than the stock 80Gb drive AND faster due to 7200 RPM and 16 Mb cache.
Cons: None!
Other Thoughts: This is the laptop drive for the best combination of performance and capacity. But -- 320Gb drives are out now, with 500Gb due by 2009, but so far they are only 5400 RPM with 8 Mb cache. Nice to know there's room for expansion if needed. By the way, if you want to copy your old disk directly, I highly recommend Apricorn's DriveWire product -- see my Newegg review under that product.

Fast & Quiet in MacBook Pro
Pros: Fast, quiet, minimal heat in MacBook Pro. Significantly faster boot times and general use. Lots of space.
Cons: In a MBP installation the IR and sleep light sensor plugs cover the "do not cover" hole. Well, the hard drive I had in there had a hole in the exact same spot that was covered with this plug. Drive held up fine for over a year.
Other Thoughts: Installing this in a MacBook Pro if you know what you're doing will take less than an hour. It's very worthy upgrade. I haven't noticed any additional heat. This drive is QUIETER than the Hitachi 5400 120gb drive that came in my MBP. Battery life seems the same as before. Did I mention it is much faster? As in boot times went from 45 seconds to about 20 seconds.
