A Good HDD
Pros: It's a good hard drive. I've had Hitachi's before and they are very reliable compared to some others which kept breaking on me all the time.
Cons: More expensive for less...?
Other Thoughts: Runs cool in my PC so less problems down the road.

Plan for Tivo HD
Pros: The 1TB older cousin to this drive has been working in my one TiVo HD continously for 1 year now. That's CONTINOUS power on (except for power glitches). I'm getting two of these new drives to update two other TiVo HDs. I'll post back later.
Cons: None (to date)
Other Thoughts: I'll note that the TiVo HD has locked up about 5 times over the last year, but I CANNOT attribute it to the HDD because the other TiVo HD with the stock HDD has also locked up.
We do get occasional power drop outs and I'll also note that the one TiVo (with the Hitachi drive) is NOT on a power conditioner circuit.
I've used 3 Hitachi drives without a problem. Adding two more. They've done me right so far...

FIRST HITACHI
Pros: THIS DRIVE IN MY SYSTEM IS SPOOKY QUIET. JUST THE CPU FAN , PSU FAN AND THIS DRIVE. MY WIFE'S SYSTEM A FEW FEET AWAY SOUNDS LIKE A FIGHTER PLANE COMPARED TO MINE !
Cons: CAN'T SEE ANY FOR NOW. VERY QUIET...
Other Thoughts: I PUT ALL MY COMPONENTS BEHIND AN ANTEC BASIQ PSU. 350 WATTS. SEEMS TO HAVE SOLVED A COMPONENT FAILURE PROBLEM. TOO MANY THINGS GOING BAD. ENLIGHT. ENOUGH SAID...

A fine drive for those with low space needs
Pros: Inexpensive, fast, quiet just like my three other Hitachi drives but it is lighter weight than even my 7k80, 80GB unit. Of course, my 160GB notebook drive is lighter...
Cons: I don't like its jumper free interface compatibility. This caught me when I bought my 7k160, 160B drive. Hit. SATA II drives depend on your SATA controller being fully compatible with SATA spec. This means it can detect a SATA II drive and send the signal to the drive to drop back to SATA 150. Well, some early SATA controllers AREN"T fully compatible - particularly the Via VT8237 used on many mobos. To make the Hit. SATA II drives compatable, you must first install them on a SATA II controller and use Hit's Feature Tool (free download) to set the interface back to SATA 150. I ended up buying a Rosewill RC-210 controler based on the Silicon Image chip which is compatible as I had no access to a SATA II machine. The 7k160 worked fine on that. I don't think any other brand uses this method - they all have a jumper. ... I'm also disappointed that they have dropped the standard 4-pin Amp/Molex power connector. I still have few SATA power connectors on my PSU.
Other Thoughts: I bought mine from the Z place as it was a better deal at the time. File management on my 7k160 is a PITA - stuff gets in, but never gets tossed. My sympathy for those with really large drives...

Very Quiet Drive!
Pros: I have owned Western Digital, Seagate and now this Hitachi! Out of all of them, this one you have to listen very hard to hear it writing! if you can. NO! my fans are pretty much silent. Ok maybe I got lucky! and got a EXCELLENT! drive. Thx Hitachi!
Cons: none
Other Thoughts: Other than I am gonna buy another one of these, not much to say its fast, quiet and works great. If you get one thats noisey send it back. Get one thats quiet.

Below Avg. Perf & LOUD !
Pros: Almost none, when compared to anything else on the market.
Cons: Absolutely, by far, the #1 Loudest hard-drive I have ever owned. It sounds like someone is in the same room, typing away on an old-fashioned typewriter. ALSO, this HDD is well below average in Transfer Rates. Ran HD Tach several times on it, and believe me, there is much better out there.
Other Thoughts: Extremely disappointed, because I read all the reviews before making the purchase - and they claimed it was very fast, faster than the competition. Not true in real life.

Great Drive!
Pros: Quiet, fast drive. Stays very cool.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Other Thoughts: This drive is a lot thinner than my other two western digitals - not that this is an issue, but possibly note worthy for someone with little space.
