Also chiming in with a failure...
Pros: No complaints while it worked. Average. No frills. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Cons: Died after a year or so of near-continuous use as my main drive. Thankfully, I was able to retrieve most of my important information so this wasn't a catastrophic loss. Another time and place and I might not have been so lucky. :P
Other Thoughts: I haven't really had a hard drive die on me in a long time. This decade, I've retired drives for larger ones long before they've had a chance to peter out. So this took me by surprise.
Of course, I'm willing to consider that those of us who've suffered these failures are the exceptions. Out of over 1,500 reviews, 20% of them are 1-star, and 60% of them are 5-stars. I can't decide if that's good or bad. :P

like others. mine failed
Pros: when it worked it worked great. good price etc.
Cons: drive failed after less than a year of average use. it seems that others have had this hdd fail on them as well. seeing as my roommate has 2 raptors that he has almost constantly ran for the better of 4 years I will probably go with Western Digital next time.
Other Thoughts: Not reliable at all. Given the option of drives out there go with a WD.

Drive Failed 3 Months In
Pros: Online RMA Works Quick. Cost me $15.00 to get drive advanced.
Cons: Drive Failed just like the 2 other Seagate Drives I have ever owned. 1 in a Mac Book Pro, and another 200GB Drive 2 years ago.
These are the only drives that have ever failed me. 3 for 3.
Other Thoughts: I probably will never buy another Seagate Drive again, Western Digitals have never failed me, Maxtors are okay but the 10K RPM drives I got from them overheat like crazy.

Abandoning Seagate
Pros: Cheap and fast when it works.
Cons: Out of five drives, one was DOA, one is really noisy, and two are developing bad sectors only a few months after new. I have kept these drives in an aluminum case desktop case with a 120 mm fan flowing over them in an air conditioned room. The case has not moved since the install. The point is, I have not abused these drives at all. They have not become hot, or have been dropped, or have been fed funky voltages. They just aren't made right.
Other Thoughts: I have bought dozens of Seagate drives over the years and used to swear by them, but after this batch I can't recommend them any more. My 7200.10 drives were reliable and quiet, but these 7200.11 drives have given me a lot of trouble and a lot of data loss. I'm actually on newegg right now looking to buy replacements for these. I don't know what happened to Seagate - seems like their failure rate has really gotten bad recently. Fortunately, they do honor their warranty and their RMA process has been painless (so far). But of course that doesn't help with the hassle, the time, and the loss of data.

JUNK
Pros: Good Price, fast delivery. This is normal for NewEgg.
Cons: Bought 3 of these HDD. All lasted approx 3 months. Suddenly, no warning, they all died on me. Lost everything. NO WARNING!! Replaced with WD. - NO PROBLEMS.
Other Thoughts: Had bought many Seagate HDDs in the past. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER Seagate in the future. Trashed them all, will not even send them in for replacement. Don't want anymore of their junk. Will continue to buy from NewEgg. Not their fault the manufactor sent them junk.

Pros: Runs smoothly and silently, stores what I need, longevity and reliability as far as I've seen.
Cons: Nothing has gone wrong with any of the ones I've had.
Other Thoughts: I've been building systems with Seagates for over a year, now, and none of them have run into hard drive troubles. Three of those systems, particularly the oldest one, use this particular 500GB, while another uses the 1.5TB version of the 7200.11 series. That's a four out of four perfect record with me. Have no idea why there's a rash of faulty ones in the reviews lately.

Same Unfortunate Story
Pros: Super fast and solid when it worked - made my 5 year old P4 show some "get up and go" for first time in a while.
Cons: Bad sectors showed up about 2 months after installation. Now Seagate said the data is only recoverable if I send it to their recovery service which could run, at a minimum, at least $700. The drive cost me $90. When I initially got online to troubleshoot the failing sectors, the customer service rep who "helped" me was obviously very familiar with the RMA process but failed to mention that based on the diagnosis of the symptoms I presented, there was no point in sending an RMA because the data was unrecoverable. When I spoke again a month later to another CSR, who admitted she had "less technical knowledge" than the other rep, she immediately told me there would be no easy recovery of the drive.
Other Thoughts: All my pictures and music are gone unless I can find someone local to help me out... when you look at more recent posts, the number of Seagate drives that are bricking is increasing. Drives me nuts but I am done with Segate.

Why one might have to use their cell phone
Pros: Worked smashingly until took a dive.
Cons: It took a dive. Only lasted three months. Now there are bad sectors?
Other Thoughts: Wow, it's really sad when you have to use your iPhone to give a review because I am trying to get my data back.
